  1. Bibles, I want you to turn to Revelation chapter 22.

    Revelation 22 chapter mention

  2. Revelation chapter 22.

    Revelation 22 chapter mention

  3. Haven't you been blessed by this music this morning?

  4. Wow, me and three other people have been blessed this morning by that music.

  5. Haven't you been blessed?

  6. Man, that's sweet.

  7. It's been good stuff, I'm telling you.

  8. It's great.

  9. Amen.

  10. Amen.

  11. I'm going to tell y'all, one of my hope and prayers from preaching this sermon today,

  12. well, you'll leave here and think, man, I need to practice for heaven.

  13. I need to get ready for worship, you know, because I'm telling you, we're going to have a good time.

  14. We've been talking about heaven for several weeks now, and we talked about what will be certain the minute we die,

  15. what we'll know at least within 60 seconds of passing this life.

  16. We've talked about that heaven is real, and it is immediate, and it is eternal, and it is beyond our imagination.

  17. We've talked about what heaven has.

  18. We've talked about some things heaven does not have.

  19. We've talked about what will be like in heaven.

  20. We have a lot of curiosities about heaven, and the Bible does not answer every curiosity that we have.

  21. God didn't write the word of God just so we can have all our answers, all our questions answered.

  22. He wrote it so we rely and trust in him.

  23. However, it does answer several for us.

  24. And in this series on the reality of eternity, we close out this morning a look at heaven,

  25. and I want to share about us when we're in glory.

  26. When in glory, we will serve.

  27. That don't sound too glamorous, does it?

  28. That's what you had intended.

  29. Why?

  30. Because we're not serving for reward or acceptance or for good impression.

  31. When we get to heaven, we'll serve because we want to.

  32. Have you ever served because you want to?

  33. Have you ever done something for somebody just because you wanted to?

  34. Not because you had to, not because you were forced to, just because you wanted to and enjoyed doing it.

  35. Who will we serve?

  36. We'll serve the Lord.

  37. Revelation 22, 3 and 4 says this.

  38. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it,

  39. and his servants will worship him.

  40. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

  41. Leave that up for just a moment because that word there in verse 3, the next to the last word that says worship,

  42. is an interesting word.

  43. It is a word that in its primary meaning means to the service of a hireling,

  44. one who's been hired to do a job, the service that they do.

  45. And it means to serve, or it means to minister to.

  46. It means to pay homage to.

  47. And then, of course, that rolls into worship.

  48. And so sometimes translations say in this passage that we'll worship him.

  49. And it's true because the reality is that we'll serve him.

  50. And it's true that we will serve him as well as worship him.

  51. And then it says, they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

  52. Somebody asked me recently when they were leaving worship about these names on the foreheads.

  53. And so let's take a moment and talk about that.

  54. I want you to think about this for a minute because you've heard this before.

  55. In reality, in a couple of places.

  56. Let me remind you of Deuteronomy chapter 5 through 8.

    Deuteronomy 5 chapter mention

  57. It says this.

  58. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your might.

  59. And these words that I command you today shall be upon your heart.

  60. You shall teach them diligently to your children.

  61. And you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise.

  62. Listen to verse 8.

  63. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand.

  64. And they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

  65. Now, some believe that the last part of that verse 8.

  66. Some believe that that is to be taken literally.

  67. And they take these little leather boxes called phylacteries.

  68. And they put small pieces of paper with the law written on them.

  69. The Ten Commandments written on them.

  70. And they place them in those boxes.

  71. And they strap those boxes to their head before they pray.

  72. They take the same kind of box and they put it upon the back of their hand.

  73. And they wrap it around.

  74. I was on a flight to Israel and saw an Orthodox Jew do this.

  75. And he had to get the wrapping.

  76. It had to be wrapped seven times.

  77. He had to get the wrapping wrapped.

  78. And he was wrapping his arm with this leather strap again and again to make sure that it was perfectly wrapped before that old boy got loose in prayer.

  79. I'm telling you on that plane.

  80. I wanted to go over and give him some requests.

  81. You know what I mean?

  82. Because he was serious about it.

  83. He was serious about it.

  84. Now, listen, folks.

  85. You know that wearing things is not the answer.

  86. Okay?

  87. It's not.

  88. What this passage speaks of is allowing the law of the Lord and the word of God to be on your minds.

  89. Let it mark your thinking.

  90. He mentions the hands.

  91. Let it dictate what you do and why you do it and who you serve.

  92. Let it dictate those things.

  93. Take it to the heart of where it's at.

  94. This passage also may remind you of another passage of the mark of the beast in Revelation.

  95. Let's deal with that a minute.

  96. Because in Revelation 13, it speaks of the beast of corrupt worship and the second beast of a corrupt government.

  97. And it says that if people did not take the mark of the beast, which was his name or number on their right hand or forehead, they would not buy or sell anything because they didn't have the mark.

  98. That passage is much debated.

  99. And I don't want to get sidetracked, but I do want to camp for just a minute.

  100. But I want to be clear about something.

  101. Whether you think that is a tattoo of 666 or a barcode.

  102. Years ago, some of you have lived here for a long time, you'll remember this.

  103. We had a bilo.

  104. And at bilo, we had a bilo card.

  105. It was one of the first cards that I ever remember anybody had.

  106. And somebody took the numbers off the back of the bilo card and found the square root.

  107. And every bilo card, because the first half of the numbers were the same on all of them,

  108. every one of them had a square root of 666 point something.

  109. And that automatically meant that bilo was of the devil.

  110. They've since went out of business.

  111. But anyway.

  112. They did.

  113. I remember that coming out.

  114. And I thought, well, can I go get milk or not?

  115. Have I sold my soul to the devil if I buy a gallon of milk?

  116. Whether you believe it's a tattoo of 666, a discount card, a barcode, a computer chip that is put in you.

  117. None of those are the problem.

  118. The problem for the condemned is that their mind is set on things that are not of God.

  119. That's the problem.

  120. And their hands are busy about matters that are not of God.

  121. They've been marked by the beast by not surrendering and faithfully serving the Lord.

  122. That's the problem.

  123. That's the problem.

  124. And for their and for your, it applies to all of us.

  125. For our lack of surrender to the Lord, you will be marked for all of eternity.

  126. That is more than a physical mark.

  127. It is more than a mark of technology.

  128. It is a state of mind.

  129. It is a state of heart.

  130. It is a state of life of wrongdoing.

  131. Tattoos and computer chips don't condemn people, folks.

  132. It don't.

  133. Rejecting Christ is what condemns.

  134. The unpardonable sin is to reject Christ and die without him.

  135. Now, set all that to get back to Revelation 22 verse 4 when it says,

    Revelation 22:4

  136. Those serving the Lord have his name upon their foreheads.

  137. Do you see where this is going?

  138. In the book of Revelation, if you study the Old Testament, it will show you what the things it's talking about resemble and what it's talking about.

  139. There is a connection between the two.

  140. And he is saying, look back at what we've seen in the past and understand what it means now.

  141. It means that they are marked by God for faithfully setting their hearts and minds on him and serving him in this life and for all of eternity.

  142. We will serve.

  143. Our minds and our hands will be fixated on serving the Lord.

  144. Not only that, but when in glory, we'll worship.

  145. We'll worship.

  146. And that word I just told you is interchanged for service as well as worship.

  147. But Christ will be our focus in glory.

  148. Not each other.

  149. Our focus will not be on each other.

  150. But sometimes the emphasis that is put upon heaven is this great reunion that we'll have.

  151. And scripture speaks of it.

  152. It will be a great reunion.

  153. And we'll see loved ones that have died in the Lord and they're there.

  154. And we'll see folks who are in the Bible and we'll recognize them when we see them.

  155. I get that from the transfiguration in Matthew 17.

  156. We'll know who Moses is.

  157. Even if he don't look like Charlton Heston, we'll know who he is.

  158. How?

  159. Because we'll have a knowledge that we don't have here.

  160. God will show us those things.

  161. But our focus won't be on each other.

  162. As a matter of fact, Christ tells us that there will not be marriage in heaven.

  163. So let's deal with that a minute.

  164. Because we see this issue in Matthew 22 when the Sadducees and the Sadducees were a religious political group that did not believe in the resurrection.

  165. And they were sad, you see.

  166. Because they thought this was all there was.

  167. And they were trying to poke fun at Jesus by giving him a brain teaser.

  168. Don't mess with Jesus, okay?

  169. Matthew 22, verse 23, it says this.

    Matthew 22:23

  170. The same day Sadducees came to him who say that there is no resurrection.

  171. And they asked him a question saying,

  172. Teacher, Moses said if a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.

  173. Now there were seven brothers among us.

  174. The first married and died and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.

  175. So to the second and the third down to the seventh.

  176. After all, after them all, the woman died.

  177. In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be?

  178. For they all had her.

  179. Now let me just get past the obvious first.

  180. I mean the first question that I have to ask about this story is,

  181. What kind of woman is it that appeases men to such a degree that seven of them die under her care?

  182. When's the trend going to pick up?

  183. I mean the third guy ought to have gotten nervous, you know.

  184. But they just kept on.

  185. How dumb is a bunch of brothers they are?

  186. Just a distracting question.

  187. Just trying to throw him off.

  188. And Jesus don't put up with that.

  189. He abruptly takes the mystery away.

  190. And he says in verse 30,

  191. For in the resurrection there will be neither Mary,

  192. they neither marry nor are given in marriage,

  193. but are like angels in heaven.

  194. Now let me be clear about something.

  195. Their effort was to make heaven so complicated that it didn't make sense.

  196. Some people didn't believe.

  197. And Jesus clearly states that our interests are going to be more focused on the throne of God than on each other.

  198. And Christ says we will not be married, we will be like the angels.

  199. Now don't take that out of context.

  200. Okay?

  201. What he means is angels aren't married.

  202. And we're not going to be married.

  203. He is not saying we'll be like angels.

  204. In all our ways.

  205. You're not angels now.

  206. If you think you are, ask the person beside you.

  207. Okay?

  208. And you won't be then.

  209. He does not mean that in every way that we'll be like angels.

  210. That would be contrary to scripture quite honestly.

  211. And don't believe that your loved one has now become an angel.

  212. Please don't put that on social media.

  213. Please don't do that.

  214. That's not what scripture says.

  215. Don't you dare say that some Christian who you loved has gone on to be your guardian angel.

  216. You got God watching your back.

  217. You don't need grandpa to watch after you.

  218. He's got you.

  219. Don't lower the level that Christians have reached.

  220. We're king's kids.

  221. We're made in the image of the creator.

  222. And that's what he's saying.

  223. Read the context.

  224. He's saying that we will not be sexually intimate.

  225. And we won't be worried about physical relationships when we get to heaven.

  226. Angels are not sexual creatures.

  227. We will not be in heaven either.

  228. It does not mean that we won't love each other deeply and dearly.

  229. More so than we ever have.

  230. We love family deeply without sexual relations.

  231. We love our church dearly without it.

  232. We love the Lord Jesus dearly without it.

  233. Physical intimacy does not make love, folks.

  234. It is an earthly product of marital love.

  235. Only in the bounds of marriage.

  236. And outside of that, it's a sacrilege to God.

  237. In heaven, the splendor of heaven, the presence of God will outshine any focus we have in this life.

  238. I just want you to listen to Revelation 7, 9 through 17.

  239. It expresses it wonderfully.

  240. When it says,

  241. After this, I looked and behold a great multitude that no one could number from every nation,

  242. from all the tribes and peoples and languages,

  243. standing before the throne and before the Lamb,

  244. clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands,

  245. crying out with a loud voice,

  246. Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb.

  247. And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures,

  248. and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

  249. saying,

  250. Amen!

  251. Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever.

  252. Amen!

  253. Then one of the elders addressed me, saying,

  254. Who are these clothed in white robes?

  255. And from where have they come?

  256. And I said to him,

  257. Sir, you know.

  258. And he said to me,

  259. These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation.

  260. They've washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

  261. Therefore they are before the throne of God.

  262. And they serve him day and night in his temple.

  263. And he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.

  264. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore.

  265. The sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat.

  266. For the Lord, excuse me, for the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd.

  267. And he'll guide them to springs of living water.

  268. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

  269. Folks, the trouble and the tribulations of this life,

  270. no matter how great they are,

  271. are when they come,

  272. will be over

  273. and we will be worshiping at the feet of Jesus.

  274. When in glory,

  275. we'll be caught up.

  276. Now that's a term

  277. that is used in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  278. that speaks of the return of the Lord.

  279. And if we still remain on the earth when the Lord returns,

  280. we shall be caught up together

  281. to meet the Lord in the air.

  282. And so we will ever be with the Lord.

  283. However,

  284. that is not what I meant

  285. when I said we will be caught up.

  286. I use that term instead to embrace

  287. several things

  288. that I want to share with you today.

  289. I mean that we'll be caught up

  290. with what's going on in heaven.

  291. I mean we get caught up.

  292. In other words,

  293. the matters of the day,

  294. the matters of this world

  295. will not fill our day

  296. and overwhelm our conscience.

  297. Will we know what's going on on the earth?

  298. We often tend to speak of our loved ones

  299. as looking down on us,

  300. as if there's some loft of sorts

  301. in which the inhabitants of heaven

  302. can peer off and see us.

  303. It's probably not a loft,

  304. but there's biblical evidence

  305. that they know what's going on.

  306. Hebrews chapter 12 verse 1 says this,

    Hebrews 12:1

  307. therefore since we are surrounded

  308. by such a great cloud of witnesses,

  309. and this follows Hebrews 11,

  310. which is the hall of fame of faith,

  311. which are all these saints

  312. who faithfully serve the Lord

  313. and gone on to see him.

  314. And because of what they've done

  315. and because of who they are,

  316. he follows it up by saying,

  317. therefore since we are surrounded

  318. by those,

  319. that great cloud of witnesses,

  320. let us also lay aside every weight

  321. and sin which clings so closely

  322. and let us run with endurance

  323. the race that is set before us.

  324. What this picture draws,

  325. and Paul was either an athlete

  326. or a wannabe,

  327. because he likes to use athletic terms,

  328. and what he pictures here

  329. is a stadium crowd

  330. that is cheering us on

  331. and rooting us on.

  332. Notice what they're cheering us on to do.

  333. They are cheering us on

  334. to run the race of the Christian life

  335. with tenacity,

  336. letting no sin or distraction

  337. entangle or run for Christ.

  338. But do you know how they get

  339. their greatest joy?

  340. How they get their greatest joy

  341. is in Luke chapter 15.

    Luke 15 chapter mention

  342. Verse 3 through 10.

  343. It says this about Jesus.

  344. It says,

  345. so he told them about this parable.

  346. Now a parable is an earthly story

  347. with a heavenly meaning.

  348. That's an overused definition

  349. of a parable, okay?

  350. And he said this,

  351. what man of you having a hundred sheep,

  352. if he has lost one of them,

  353. does not leave the 99 in open country

  354. and go after the one that is lost

  355. until he finds it?

  356. And when he has found it,

  357. he lays it on his shoulders

  358. and rejoices.

  359. And when he comes home,

  360. he calls together his friends

  361. and his neighbors saying to them,

  362. rejoice with me

  363. for I have found my sheep

  364. that was lost.

  365. Just so.

  366. You can underline that

  367. if you're an underliner.

  368. I tell you there'll be more joy in heaven

  369. over one sinner who repents

  370. than over 99 righteous people

  371. who need no repentance.

  372. Now that last verse there

  373. is not part of his parable.

  374. He's sharing with you

  375. what that parable actually means.

  376. And then he goes on

  377. to share another parable.

  378. And he says,

  379. or what woman having 10 silver coins

  380. if she loses one coin

  381. does not light a lamp

  382. and sweep the house

  383. and seek diligently

  384. until she finds it?

  385. And when she's found it,

  386. she calls together her friends

  387. and neighbors saying,

  388. rejoice with me

  389. for I found the coin

  390. that I had lost.

  391. Again,

  392. just so.

  393. I tell you,

  394. there is joy.

  395. Get this now.

  396. There is joy

  397. before the angels of God

  398. over one sinner

  399. who repents.

  400. Leave that up for me

  401. for a minute.

  402. There is joy

  403. before the angels of God

  404. over one sinner

  405. who repents.

  406. Now he's using a parable

  407. to describe a real atmosphere

  408. and I want you to notice something.

  409. It does not say

  410. it is the angels rejoicing.

  411. It's not what it says.

  412. Read it again.

  413. It says,

  414. there is joy

  415. before the angels of God

  416. over one sinner

  417. who repents.

  418. So who's in the presence

  419. of the angels?

  420. The saints of God.

  421. And what are they

  422. rejoicing over?

  423. When one is saved.

  424. My friend,

  425. if heaven

  426. is celebrating

  427. when one comes

  428. to the Lord,

  429. we ought to be livid

  430. when somebody

  431. comes to Christ.

  432. When somebody's baptized,

  433. we ought to cheer.

  434. I don't mean that figuratively.

  435. I think we ought

  436. to celebrate it.

  437. It's the best decision

  438. they've ever made

  439. in their life

  440. to give their heart

  441. and life to the Lord.

  442. And when they're bold enough

  443. to make that public

  444. before others,

  445. we ought to celebrate that.

  446. When somebody comes down

  447. this aisle

  448. and says that she has

  449. given her heart

  450. and life to the Lord,

  451. we ought to shout.

  452. Why?

  453. Because we know

  454. of the victorious life

  455. that they've entered into.

  456. we don't know the half of it.

  457. We don't know the half of it.

  458. But those in heaven do.

  459. Those in heaven

  460. see it from a whole

  461. different perspective.

  462. They know the fullness

  463. of salvation

  464. so they rejoice even more.

  465. They've seen the Lord Jesus.

  466. They know what it's about.

  467. They've experienced

  468. eternal bliss.

  469. Think about this.

  470. If heaven sees all

  471. are saved every day

  472. across the world,

  473. that is one big camp meeting.

  474. I mean,

  475. they're celebrating

  476. when somebody gets saved

  477. in any church

  478. anywhere in the world

  479. on Sunday.

  480. They celebrate

  481. when somebody quietly

  482. gives their heart and life

  483. to the Lord Jesus Christ

  484. by their own bedside,

  485. by themselves.

  486. They celebrate

  487. every time that is done.

  488. they celebrate

  489. those that never

  490. come to Christ.

  491. Do they see that?

  492. Well, I don't know.

  493. Because the Bible tells me

  494. there's no crying

  495. and mourning,

  496. therefore they must see

  497. it from a different perspective.

  498. As a matter of fact,

  499. a heavenly,

  500. eternal perspective.

  501. Now,

  502. we can't imagine this,

  503. but it's almost like

  504. watching a replay

  505. of a game

  506. and knowing

  507. that your team

  508. is going to win the game.

  509. Okay?

  510. I went to a ball game yesterday.

  511. And so I didn't get

  512. to see other games.

  513. And I was looking forward

  514. to going home

  515. and watching

  516. Colorado and Oregon

  517. before I checked my app.

  518. And I didn't want to see

  519. how that went down.

  520. But it would have been

  521. easy for me

  522. to find out

  523. what the final score

  524. of a game is

  525. and then go back

  526. and watch that game

  527. to see how that developed.

  528. To see the whole deal.

  529. You see,

  530. the bad plays

  531. aren't that big a deal

  532. if you know

  533. you're going to win the game.

  534. I mean,

  535. if you know how it all ends.

  536. And therefore,

  537. you're celebrating

  538. the victory

  539. because you know

  540. you won

  541. because the game's

  542. already been played.

  543. In reality,

  544. in heaven,

  545. they see it different, folks.

  546. And they celebrate.

  547. They cheer us on.

  548. It's kind of like a parade.

  549. Dawn and I celebrated

  550. our 20th anniversary

  551. a few years ago

  552. by going to New York City.

  553. A dream of hers,

  554. a bucket list item,

  555. had always been

  556. to see the Macy's

  557. Thanksgiving Parade.

  558. And one thing

  559. on my bucket list

  560. every Thanksgiving

  561. was always not to see

  562. the Macy's

  563. Thanksgiving Parade.

  564. But she dreamed of that.

  565. But I'll tell you

  566. what I did want to do.

  567. I wanted to go

  568. to a renowned steakhouse

  569. and eat a New York steak.

  570. I did.

  571. I wanted to do that.

  572. So first,

  573. on Thanksgiving Day,

  574. we went to the parade.

  575. We stood about

  576. eight thick

  577. with us in the middle

  578. watching the floats come by.

  579. It was a long

  580. and it was a fun experience.

  581. We anticipated

  582. when Santa would come

  583. and the parade would come

  584. to its climactic conclusion.

  585. And for a long time,

  586. we could never see that.

  587. I know what time

  588. my reservation was.

  589. I was checking my clock.

  590. However, overhead,

  591. there were helicopters.

  592. I would imagine

  593. they had cameras.

  594. I would imagine

  595. they used those cameras

  596. for television.

  597. And those in those helicopters

  598. could see

  599. the whole trek

  600. of two and a half miles

  601. that we had walked

  602. the day before.

  603. The night before,

  604. we had went to Central Park

  605. and watched them

  606. blow up

  607. those great floats.

  608. Watched them

  609. net them down

  610. and weigh them down

  611. so they didn't float away.

  612. We had seen that

  613. at the beginning.

  614. And then right outside

  615. our hotel room,

  616. we had walked down the street

  617. and saw the middle

  618. of the parade

  619. and watched as that went by.

  620. But we could only see

  621. as the individual floats

  622. came by.

  623. I tried to remember

  624. the order they were in

  625. from the night before

  626. and watching those things

  627. come by.

  628. But those in that helicopter

  629. could see the beginning

  630. and they could see the end

  631. and they could see it all.

  632. I just saw a float

  633. at a time.

  634. They saw the whole thing.

  635. That's the way life is.

  636. Heaven sees

  637. the whole thing.

  638. We live one float

  639. at a time.

  640. We watch our event

  641. a day at a time.

  642. But heaven sees it

  643. from a different perspective.

  644. They see the glorious

  645. climactic conclusion

  646. to all of this.

  647. Therefore, they celebrate.

  648. They see the good things

  649. and the bad

  650. but they know how it ends.

  651. They see what we don't.

  652. But what about those?

  653. Let me readdress this.

  654. What about those

  655. who don't go to heaven?

  656. Do they know if loved ones

  657. are missing from heaven?

  658. Are they aware

  659. of those not in heaven?

  660. The Bible's clear

  661. that there's no grief,

  662. crying, or mourning in heaven.

  663. That being the case,

  664. what about those

  665. that we know and love

  666. that don't make it?

  667. Well, I want you to hear

  668. listen to this hard truth

  669. because the Bible's

  670. pretty clear about it.

  671. In Psalm chapter 9,

    Psalms 9 chapter mention

  672. Psalm 9,

  673. excuse me,

  674. it's not a chapter,

  675. it's a psalm.

  676. Psalm 9 verse 5,

    Psalms 9:5

  677. it says,

  678. you have rebuked the nations.

  679. You have made the wicked perish.

  680. You have blotted out their name

  681. forever and ever.

  682. Psalm 69 verse 28,

    Psalms 69:28

  683. speaking of those

  684. that do not have salvation said,

  685. you have rebuked,

  686. excuse me,

  687. let them be blotted

  688. out of the book of the living.

  689. Let them not be enrolled

  690. among the righteous.

  691. Did you get that?

  692. Let them be blotted out

  693. of the book of living.

  694. Now to me,

  695. that brings a whole new meaning

  696. of the Lamb's book of life

  697. because I thought

  698. it was the names

  699. of those who made it

  700. but in reality,

  701. it's the name of those

  702. who really experienced life

  703. because those outside of Christ

  704. never really experienced life.

  705. Not the way Christ can give it.

  706. it's like the walking dead folks

  707. of sorts.

  708. Until you know Christ,

  709. you haven't really lived.

  710. I want you to listen

  711. to what Jesus said about Judas.

  712. Jesus said this.

  713. In Matthew 26 verse 24,

    Matthew 26:24

  714. he said,

  715. it would have been better

  716. for that man

  717. if he had not been born.

  718. Now did he say that

  719. because Judas betrayed him?

  720. No.

  721. He said that because Judas,

  722. although he hung out

  723. with the church folk,

  724. although he walked

  725. along with Christ,

  726. never knew the Lord Jesus personally.

  727. He never surrendered

  728. his life to the Lord

  729. and he would have been better off

  730. to have never been born

  731. because the only true life

  732. is eternal life in Christ.

  733. Revelation 20 verse 15 says,

    Revelation 20:15

  734. and if anyone's name

  735. was not found

  736. in the book of life,

  737. he was thrown

  738. into the lake of fire.

  739. In other words,

  740. it's as if they never lived at all.

  741. Now don't misunderstand me.

  742. No, they were here.

  743. But in heaven,

  744. there will only be

  745. a faded memory

  746. because there's no real life.

  747. There's no real existence

  748. outside of Christ.

  749. However, for those in Christ,

  750. there's an eternal celebration

  751. that never stops

  752. until all are saved

  753. that will and we're all in heaven.

  754. Then we'll have

  755. what is described

  756. as the marriage feast.

  757. They describe it that way

  758. because the church,

  759. those saints in the Lord Jesus

  760. are considered

  761. the bride of Christ.

  762. They're described

  763. as the bride of Christ

  764. and Christ is the groom

  765. and together around

  766. the table of the Lord

  767. will celebrate

  768. we all come home.

  769. Those in Christ Jesus.

  770. I can hardly wait.

  771. Do those in heaven

  772. know what's happening on earth?

  773. Yes, they do.

  774. They know how God is working

  775. and they rejoice in that.

  776. Winning glory

  777. will be rewarded.

  778. Give me just a minute.

  779. Let me finish this.

  780. 1 Corinthians 3

    1 Corinthians 3:10–15

  781. verse 10 through 15

  782. says this.

  783. According to the grace

  784. of God given to me

  785. like a skilled master builder

  786. I laid a foundation

  787. and someone else

  788. is building upon it.

  789. Let each one take care

  790. how he builds upon it

  791. for no one can lay

  792. a foundation

  793. other than that

  794. which is laid

  795. which is Jesus Christ.

  796. Now if anyone

  797. builds on a foundation

  798. with gold, silver,

  799. precious stones,

  800. wood, hay, straw,

  801. each one's work

  802. will become manifest

  803. for the day

  804. will disclose it

  805. because it will reveal

  806. by fire

  807. and the fire

  808. will test what sort of work

  809. each one has done.

  810. If the work has anyone

  811. has, if the work

  812. that anyone has built

  813. on the foundation

  814. survives

  815. he will receive a reward.

  816. If anyone's work

  817. is burned up

  818. he'll suffer loss

  819. though he himself

  820. will be saved

  821. only as through fire.

  822. In other words

  823. it's kind of like

  824. the story of the little pigs.

  825. Only the house of brick

  826. withstood the winds

  827. in the end

  828. and the only thing

  829. that really lasts

  830. past this life

  831. is what we do

  832. for the Lord.

  833. That's really it

  834. and as Christians

  835. we are building

  836. our lives

  837. but what is our

  838. motivation in that?

  839. Well listen

  840. you can fool

  841. some of the people

  842. all of the time

  843. and you can fool

  844. all the people

  845. some of the time

  846. but you can't fool

  847. the Lord

  848. any other time

  849. he knows your heart

  850. and what is done

  851. in accordance with

  852. scripture

  853. for the right reasons

  854. to honor

  855. and glorify the Lord

  856. and not to worry

  857. about glorifying

  858. ourselves

  859. that will shine

  860. forth in eternity

  861. and we shall

  862. receive a reward

  863. and the reward

  864. is not based

  865. on how great

  866. the accomplishment is

  867. it's based upon

  868. our faithfulness

  869. to his work

  870. and to his service.

  871. Now I'm not talking

  872. about earning

  873. your salvation

  874. you can't earn

  875. your salvation

  876. period

  877. you can't

  878. we are saved

  879. through Christ

  880. only because

  881. of what he's done

  882. but after that point

  883. we are to serve him

  884. in the opportunities

  885. that he gives us

  886. in this life

  887. and what we do

  888. in service to him

  889. with those opportunities

  890. they'll be represented

  891. they'll be responded

  892. to in eternity.

  893. Now there are

  894. different levels

  895. of rewards in heaven

  896. because we all

  897. serve him differently

  898. but listen

  899. what's cool about this

  900. there'll be no pride

  901. there'll be no envy

  902. there'll be no jealousy

  903. I heard it explained

  904. like this

  905. little boy had a dream

  906. he wanted to be a bat boy

  907. in the World Series

  908. he dreamed of being

  909. a bat boy

  910. in the World Series

  911. that was his ultimate dream

  912. what a reward

  913. to do that

  914. and with that being

  915. his dream

  916. it brought

  917. unmeasurable pleasure

  918. to do such a task

  919. however there's another

  920. little boy

  921. that dreamed of playing

  922. center field

  923. in the World Series

  924. and he went on

  925. to be able to play

  926. center field

  927. in the World Series

  928. both them boys

  929. are happy

  930. just as happy

  931. as they can be

  932. the ball boy

  933. never realized

  934. he could have been

  935. playing

  936. he doesn't feel

  937. slighted

  938. in the least

  939. because the levels

  940. of reward are different

  941. but the joy is equal

  942. now I'm not telling you

  943. there's baseball in heaven

  944. there's not

  945. but I'm saying this

  946. everyone will be content

  947. in their status

  948. in heaven

  949. because any reward

  950. we receive

  951. we'll just lay

  952. at the feet of Jesus

  953. we'll be rewarded

  954. that might have been

  955. my cue to quit

  956. but I'm not

  957. winning glory

  958. this is it

  959. listen quick

  960. we will reign

  961. we'll reign

  962. Revelation 22 verse 5

    Revelation 22:5

  963. says a night

  964. will be no more

  965. don't need no light

  966. of lamp or sun

  967. for the Lord God

  968. will be their light

  969. and they will reign

  970. forever and ever

  971. that does not mean

  972. that we'll lord over people

  973. and it does not mean

  974. that we'll

  975. we'll be gods

  976. it's not what it means

  977. it means that we'll

  978. celebrate victory

  979. victory over every battle

  980. that we faced

  981. victory over every

  982. physical sickness

  983. over every spiritual

  984. sickness

  985. over every struggle

  986. the battle will be over

  987. we'll be champions

  988. with the Lord

  989. and we'll be celebrating

  990. and we will reign

  991. I know

  992. that does not answer

  993. all your questions

  994. but don't be concerned

  995. about the uncertainties

  996. that you have

  997. about eternity

  998. tell you what you need

  999. to be concerned about

  1000. is the state

  1001. of your heart

  1002. if the Lord Jesus

  1003. was to return today

  1004. are you going to

1005. walk out that front door

1006. and get hit by a car

1007. and go on to eternity

  1008. have you ever come

1009. to the point in your life

  1010. where you know

  1011. for certainty

  1012. you have eternal life

1013. and you'll go to heaven

  1014. when you die

1015. can you rest in that today

  1016. that's not a threat

  1017. it's just true

1018. but you need to have

  1019. that nailed down

  1020. all of heaven

  1021. waits for you

  1022. eternal life

  1023. waits for you

  1024. right here

  1025. now today

  1026. because Christ said

  1027. I've come that you

  1028. might have life

1029. and have it more abundantly

  1030. he's not talking

  1031. about heaven

  1032. he's talking about here

  1033. he'll give an uptick

  1034. to your life

  1035. that'll change you forever

  1036. if you're surrender

  1037. your life to Christ

  1038. but don't ever think

  1039. your affiliation

  1040. with this church

1041. will take care of that

  1042. don't ever think

  1043. that some service

  1044. that you've done

  1045. for somebody else

1046. will take care of that

  1047. don't ever think

  1048. that preaching

1049. will take care of that

  1050. or teaching

1051. will take care of that

  1052. or volunteering

1053. will take care of that

  1054. no no no

  1055. the only thing

1056. that takes care of that

  1057. is saying

  1058. there's nothing

1059. I can do to earn it

  1060. and I need you

  1061. to forgive me

  1062. and to cleanse me

1063. and to come into my life

  1064. and if that's never

  1065. happened to you

  1066. today's the day

  1067. of salvation

  1068. if you feel

1069. a tugging in your heart

  1070. you didn't come up

  1071. with that

1072. God gave that to you

  1073. because he's burdened

  1074. for you

  1075. and loves you

  1076. and the saints

  1077. of glory

  1078. are ready to celebrate

  1079. your salvation

  1080. maybe you're here

1081. and you have done that

  1082. but you've never

  1083. acknowledged that publicly

  1084. you never tell anybody

  1085. to know that

  1086. Jesus by his example

  1087. and by his commission

1088. told us to be baptized

  1089. and acknowledge

  1090. what we've done

  1091. a physical picture

  1092. of what happened

  1093. to us spiritually

1094. you come take care of that

  1095. maybe God's drawing you

  1096. to this church

  1097. God's blessing us

  1098. in mighty ways

  1099. I'm thankful for that

1100. and you want to be a part

1101. of that and feel led

1102. to be a part of that

  1103. you come

  1104. we'll guide you

  1105. in that process

  1106. maybe you just need

1107. to do business with God

  1108. I don't know what it is

  1109. listen I'll be honest

  1110. with you folks

1111. I struggled with this sermon

  1112. this week

  1113. because I knew

  1114. what time it'd be

  1115. when I was done

  1116. and I don't like

  1117. doing that to you

  1118. I didn't feel led

1119. to take a thing out

1120. so let's just give God

  1121. a couple more minutes

  1122. and respond to him

  1123. in obedience

  1124. I'll never ask you

  1125. to do anything

1126. that God didn't tell you

  1127. to do

  1128. but when God

1129. leads you to do something

  1130. don't you dare

  1131. stay there

  1132. and not do it

  1133. Lord Jesus

  1134. I love you

  1135. and I thank you

  1136. dear God

  1137. for this day

  1138. and for the opportunity

1139. to serve you dear Lord

  1140. and for eternity

  1141. and we can celebrate

1142. Lord speak to our hearts

1143. and help us to have

  1144. the obedience to respond

  1145. in Jesus name

  1146. Amen

  1147. thank you

  1148. I love you

  1149. to hear

  1150. I love you

  1151. I love you

  1152. I love you

  1153. I love you

  1154. I love you
