  1. If you have your Bibles, I want you to turn to Micah chapter 6.

    Micah 6 chapter mention

  2. Micah chapter 6.

    Micah 6 chapter mention

  3. God's allowed me to serve on five continents through mission

  4. trips and those type things.

  5. And although I've enjoyed most moments on every trip, I don't

  6. want to live anywhere else besides America.

  7. I also happen to believe I'm in the best part of America with the

  8. best people in America.

  9. So I get to enjoy the best of the best.

  10. And I am for America.

  11. I don't worship America.

  12. I worship God.

  13. And I don't want to try to institutionalize Christianity as a

  14. religion in people's hearts that don't want it.

  15. That does not work.

  16. Constantine tried that in Rome after he felt like God spoke to him in a

  17. dream and he had victory in battle.

  18. And so he institutionalized Christianity as a religion.

  19. And the reality is you can't force conversions.

  20. You can't force manipulations.

  21. You can't make people do that.

  22. And it led in that day and age to a weak and fake and watered down church

  23. filled with more tears than wheat.

  24. And that's very much what it would do.

  25. Folks, I want to be clear.

  26. America is not a Christian nation.

  27. It's a nation that was founded on Christian principles.

  28. But you cut the TV on when you get home, if you dare.

  29. And you'll find that this nation that was established for us to have the right to

  30. worship the way we're to worship was a nation that was started the right way,

  31. even though it was flawed at the time, 248 years ago.

  32. It is now a nation that went far away from its foundation.

  33. It's a nation where Christianity is freely shared, and I'm thankful for that.

  34. But most Americans are not Christians.

  35. I'll go as far as to say that most that claim to be Christians are not Christians.

  36. Verbal agreement with something is not enough.

  37. You've got to be hooked into the vine.

  38. You've got to be, you've got to know Jesus Christ.

  39. And we can't legislate that.

  40. Pass all the laws you want to and enforce them so that everyone does what's right.

  41. But listen, if we get all the laws straight and everybody behaves and don't break any laws,

  42. if they don't know Christ, they'll spend eternity apart from him.

  43. I believe as American citizens we have a responsibility to vote.

  44. The vote is not really about making America Christian.

  45. It's about participating in the process to do everything we can to get the best,

  46. most godly decisions that we can for America.

  47. And when leadership in America appears to have no moral compass,

  48. at least from a godly standpoint,

  49. Did you watch the debate?

  50. You may have to hold your nose when you vote.

  51. America is desperate for good, godly leadership.

  52. And you may have been like me and looked at the television and said,

  53. How in the world can a nation, as great with opportunity as America is,

  54. not have good, godly leadership in place to carry through?

  55. I'll tell you why.

  56. Our country senses it.

  57. It is.

  58. You can smell it and all the liberal, perverted godlessness that fills the news stories.

  59. But I want to be clear about something.

  60. Jesus said the devil is the ruler of this world.

  61. You know what that means?

  62. That means that people listen to evil influences more than they do godly ones.

  63. However, we're not the first nation to deal with poor leadership.

  64. We're not the first nation to have an ungodly atmosphere.

  65. We're not the first nation to be plagued with lostness.

  66. It's not a new thing.

  67. It goes way back.

  68. Sin sickness is one of the main reasons why Israel fell in 722 B.C.

  69. Sin sickness will lead a nation to fall.

  70. And in that day, God allowed the Assyrians, which was a very evil people among themselves,

  71. to overtake the capital of Israel and lead to the fall of a nation.

  72. And the prophet Micah predicted it would happen.

  73. The word of the Lord came to him.

  74. In Micah 1 verse 6, he said,

    Micah 1:6

  75. Therefore, I will make Samaria a heap in the open country, a place for planting vineyards,

  76. and I will pour down her stones into the valley and uncover her foundation.

  77. Their turn from God led to their demise.

  78. Because God does not hide the heartache that comes from waywardness.

  79. And we ought to learn from that example.

  80. I believe he put it in scripture for us to see so that we'll learn from that example.

  81. Not only did Micah speak of the fall of Israel, which he lived right in the midst of,

  82. but he also spoke a concern of the same nature for Jerusalem, the capital of Judah.

  83. And his message was one of warning.

  84. I believe we live in a day when America needs a warning.

  85. And if America is going to be renewed, I got news for you.

  86. Renewal starts with God's people.

  87. Not by voting it in, although we have a responsibility, again,

  88. as citizens and godly folks to vote appropriately.

  89. But by living and watching God bless that faithfulness.

  90. Micah makes it clear what our priority is in such a situation as he lived

  91. and in the situation as we live.

  92. And it's actually the key passage in all of the prophecy of Micah.

  93. It's found in our key passage, Micah chapter 6, verse 6 through 8, and says this,

    Micah 6:6–8

  94. With what shall I come before the Lord and bow myself before God on high?

  95. Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?

  96. Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil?

  97. Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

  98. He has told you, O man, what is good.

  99. Key verse in all this book.

  100. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness

  101. and to walk humbly with your God?

  102. Micah was a country preacher that went to a big city in Jerusalem with a burden and a message.

  103. He described his situation in Micah chapter 3, verse 8,

    Micah 3:8

  104. But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might

  105. to declare to Jacob his transgressions and to Israel his sin.

  106. Micah was just a common man with a burning message,

  107. and he knew if his nation didn't change their ways that it would not last.

  108. And his prophecy came true.

  109. Within these nations, there were a lot of unfair treatment.

  110. There were corrupt leaders in business, corrupt leaders in politics, and in every way of life.

  111. And their fatal sins involved moral corruption, violence, deceitfulness.

  112. In Micah chapter 3, verse 9 and 10, he reveals the sad lack of loyalty among the leaders.

    Micah 3:9

  113. When he says this,

  114. Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel,

  115. who detest justice and make crooked all that is straight,

  116. who build Zion with blood and Jerusalem with iniquity.

  117. Micah predicted disaster would come to a nation,

  118. and such disgrace would come to the whole nation,

  119. would cause them to blush with embarrassment.

  120. Proverbs 14, 34, and I always think about this passage on July the 4th and the week of.

  121. Righteousness exalts a nation,

  122. but sin is a reproach, also translated a disgrace to any people.

  123. With the moral corruption,

  124. the unfair treatment,

  125. the riotous living,

  126. the lack of purity,

  127. and the lack of loyalty

  128. that characterize these nations.

  129. Their profile, sadly, but surely,

  130. resembles some things we see in our country today.

  131. It does.

  132. And let me imply, therefore,

  133. if we heed their warnings,

  134. we can be helped.

  135. In a day when we celebrate sodomy

  136. for a whole month,

  137. and are proud of our sin,

  138. and parade our shameless sin around,

  139. when we have outward demonstrations of hatred

  140. toward God's chosen people,

  141. when somehow you can be racist

  142. toward some people,

  143. we have looked

  144. to an amoral,

  145. incapable,

  146. ungodly

  147. host of leadership

  148. in our country.

  149. And we've traded bedfellas

  150. like baseball cards

  151. to the nation

  152. in so many ways

  153. as a disgrace.

  154. When illicit sex

  155. is celebrated,

  156. and drug moderation

  157. is promoted,

  158. and by the way,

  159. alcohol is still

  160. the most deadly of them,

  161. homosexuality

  162. is condoned

  163. and celebrated,

  164. abortion is ignored,

  165. lying is expected,

  166. most marriages fail,

  167. and most kids are parentless.

  168. When government is helpless

  169. and crime is relentless,

  170. Christians too often

  171. are gutless.

  172. The church

  173. has little influence

  174. in those atmospheres.

  175. So how does the church

  176. respond

  177. to America?

  178. What can we do

  179. to change a nation?

  180. Well, I encourage you

  181. to learn from our past

  182. because we can continue

  183. to protest,

  184. we can picket,

  185. we can sue folks,

  186. we can march,

  187. we can pass laws,

  188. we can publicly pray,

  189. we can hold vigils,

  190. we can make posts,

  191. we can retweet stuff,

  192. we can write books,

  193. raise money,

  194. wear t-shirts,

  195. we can even smack

  196. on bumper stickers.

  197. It's not making

  198. a lot of difference

  199. in America.

  200. it's on a downward

  201. moral spiral.

  202. And the church

  203. is too often

  204. influenced by the culture

  205. instead of influencing

  206. the culture.

  207. And that's the exact

  208. opposite as to how

  209. Christ told us

  210. to respond to our world.

  211. So don't hide

  212. the light of God's love

  213. and truth under a basket.

  214. As Jesus said,

  215. let it shine.

  216. Shine forth.

  217. We are the spiritual

  218. zest of this nation.

  219. the guiding lights.

  220. It is our responsibility

  221. as the salt of the world

  222. to flavor our society.

  223. And the best options

  224. that Americans have

  225. is the same options

  226. that all Americans have.

  227. The best option

  228. is salvation

  229. through Christ.

  230. And we must do

  231. everything we can

  232. to honor

  233. and glorify Christ.

  234. We have a message

  235. the world needs to hear

  236. through our mouths,

  237. through our lives,

  238. through our love.

  239. We grow disgusted

  240. often because

  241. we're looking at a world

  242. that lacks hope,

  243. that lacks peace,

  244. and we're wondering

  245. why they act like they do.

  246. We're expecting righteousness

  247. to come from people

  248. who don't know the Lord.

  249. That's a bogus thought, folks.

  250. Don't expect godliness

  251. from those

  252. that don't know the Lord.

  253. It's not going to happen.

  254. It's not going to happen.

  255. America cares little

  256. about Christianity

  257. because most that claim

  258. Christ are not living for Him.

  259. And the world sees

  260. the difference in that

  261. in too many lives.

  262. Faith's not merely

  263. associating with Christ.

  264. It's having your life

  265. changed by Christ.

  266. It stirs what we do.

  267. It stirs why we do it.

  268. And I believe

  269. to win the world,

  270. we have to do

  271. what verse 8

  272. instructs us to do.

  273. Christians,

  274. this is how

  275. you can make a difference

  276. in your nation.

  277. act justly.

  278. Uphold what is right

  279. in our lifestyle.

  280. Take on spiritual

  281. responsibility

  282. seriously.

  283. I want you to hear

  284. what John says

  285. in 1 John 1, 5-7.

  286. He says this,

  287. this is the message

  288. we've heard from Him

  289. and proclaim to you

  290. that God is light.

  291. In Him there is

  292. no darkness at all.

  293. Listen to this,

  294. if we say we have

  295. fellowship with Him

  296. while we walk in darkness,

  297. we lie and do not

  298. practice the truth.

  299. But if we walk

  300. in the light

  301. as He is in the light,

  302. we have fellowship

  303. with one another

  304. and the blood

  305. of Jesus His Son

  306. cleanses us

  307. from all of our sin.

  308. If our lives

  309. are not marked

  310. by our fellowship

  311. with God,

  312. by our fellowship

  313. with His people,

  314. we're not in fellowship

  315. with the Lord.

  316. It has to show forth

  317. in our lives.

  318. And any time

  319. that we proclaim

  320. to have the Lord

  321. and feel secure

  322. about that,

  323. but yet don't resemble

  324. that in our life,

  325. it's shady at best.

  326. Our lives are to be marked

  327. by acting out our faith

  328. and that is described

  329. here as justly.

  330. So how do you do that?

  331. Well, you surrender

  332. your lives to Him.

  333. It begins in one day

  334. when you surrender

  335. your life to the Lord Jesus,

  336. asking Him to forgive you

  337. of your sins,

  338. to come into your life

  339. and to cleanse you.

  340. There has to be

  341. a starting point

  342. to this relationship

  343. as any other relationship.

  344. There has to be

  345. a starting point to that.

  346. And so one day

  347. you surrender your life to Him

  348. and do you know

  349. what you do the next day?

  350. You surrender your life to Him.

  351. No, you don't get saved again,

  352. but you get renewed once again.

  353. You spend the rest of your days

  354. giving the Lord your life,

  355. surrendering our lives to Him.

  356. Not one time just,

  357. but all the time

  358. from this day forward.

  359. seeking His will in prayer.

  360. We live our lives by His word

  361. where His will is revealed.

  362. We grow together with His people

  363. because you will not be everything

  364. that you need to be for the Lord

  365. if you try to go it alone.

  366. Jesus came

  367. to go on a cross

  368. and die for sinners.

  369. rise again

  370. and promise eternal life

  371. found in Him.

  372. And He came to establish a church

  373. to reach the rest of the world

  374. and to give us strength

  375. to do everything that we can

  376. for the Lord Jesus Christ.

  377. We act justly.

  378. Second thing is we love mercy.

  379. There's a difference in grace and mercy.

  380. Acting gracefully

  381. is giving to people

  382. what they do not deserve.

  383. treating people better.

  384. Mercy

  385. is not giving people

  386. what they deserve.

  387. And God calls us

  388. to be merciful.

  389. To treat people better

  390. than they deserve.

  391. It is a word,

  392. this word for mercy

  393. is a word that is used

  394. in consistency

  395. to talk about

  396. the consistent,

  397. reliable,

  398. kind,

  399. love

  400. that God has for us.

  401. And when we love mercy,

  402. we share His love

  403. with other people.

  404. I want you to hear me clearly.

  405. There's no greater need on earth

  406. than the love of Jesus Christ.

  407. And so we love folks

  408. in the Lord

  409. and when they ask us

  410. why we're doing it,

  411. we tell them why.

  412. Because Jesus changed my life

  413. and He changed yours too.

  414. We love mercy.

  415. Lastly,

  416. we walk humbly

  417. before our God.

  418. How much time

  419. do you give the Lord

  420. each day?

  421. You don't have to be honest

  422. with me,

  423. be honest with yourself,

  424. be honest with the Lord.

  425. How much time

  426. do you give the Lord

  427. each day?

  428. When He reveals

  429. what you ought to do

  430. in your life,

  431. either through the precepts

  432. of His word

  433. that you're familiar with

  434. or in your own time

  435. with Him

  436. when He reflects

  437. and uses His word

  438. to speak into your life,

  439. how much do you obey His will?

  440. How much do you even ask

  441. of His will?

  442. A humble walk

  443. before God

  444. is one where

  445. we put God first,

  446. then we put others

  447. before ourselves

  448. and then

  449. we come along.

  450. Now,

  451. if you look at this

  452. whole passage

  453. and you look at

  454. everything that it calls for

  455. to

  456. do justice

  457. and love kindness

  458. and to walk

  459. humbly with your God,

  460. if we do those things,

  461. that means that

  462. humility,

  463. obedience,

  464. and mercifulness

  465. proclaimed in a total

  466. lifestyle

  467. is not only

  468. our Christian duty,

  469. but if being a good

  470. American means

  471. loving your country,

  472. leading it in the

  473. right direction,

  474. helping all Americans

  475. to succeed,

  476. and letting everyone

  477. enjoy their rights

  478. without the infringement

  479. of others,

  480. then our American duty

  481. is to share Christ.

  482. I believe

  483. our greatest

  484. infringement

  485. as Christians,

  486. our greatest

  487. infringement

  488. to America

  489. is failing

  490. to tell them

  491. their house

  492. is on fire.

  493. It's failing

  494. to tell them

  495. that the smoke

  496. of our nation's

  497. activities

  498. are choking them.

  499. Now,

  500. let's just get real.

  501. The fires of damnation

  502. are licking

  503. at their feet.

  504. But that's exactly

  505. what we do

  506. when we don't

  507. share Christ.

  508. We just don't

  509. bother to get involved.

  510. Jesus said,

  511. what does it,

  512. what does one

  513. prosper if he gains

  514. the whole world

  515. yet loses

  516. his own soul?

  517. And because of that,

  518. we have a responsibility

  519. to share Christ

  520. with our nation,

  521. sharing the greatest

  522. love possible.

  523. We have a responsibility

  524. to sharing Christ

  525. with our neighbor,

  526. pointing them

  527. toward righteousness.

  528. We have a responsibility

  529. to sharing Christ

  530. with our coworkers,

  531. giving them the opportunity

  532. at true success

  533. because true success

  534. can't be found

  535. outside of Christ.

  536. We do not have

  537. the right to stand

  538. in the way

  539. of one's opportunity

  540. in Christ.

  541. And when we know

  542. the answer

  543. and don't give it,

  544. would you warn a child

  545. playing in the road

  546. that a car was coming?

  547. If a family was asleep

  548. in their house

  549. and you noticed

  550. their house was on fire,

  551. would you bother

  552. to wake them up

  553. and tell them?

  554. much of America,

  555. much of America

  556. does not know

  557. that they'll spend

  558. eternity apart from God.

  559. They're just not aware of it.

  560. They haven't listened.

  561. So let's not yell at them.

  562. Let's tell them

  563. of our concern.

  564. Let's live it out

  565. before them

  566. and walk it before them

  567. and tell them

  568. your story.

  569. Has Christ

  570. changed your life?

  571. best person

  572. to tell that story

  573. is you.

  574. And you need to trust

  575. not your eloquence

  576. in being able

  577. to say it.

  578. You need to trust

  579. that God's instructed

  580. us to do that.

  581. And he gets

  582. in the middle of it.

  583. And the Holy Spirit

  584. gets in the middle of it.

  585. And your humble,

  586. somewhat broken testimony

  587. of what Christ did

  588. to you somehow

  589. impacts somebody

  590. else's life,

  591. not because of the power

  592. of what you say,

  593. but because of the power

  594. of the Holy Spirit

  595. of God

  596. working between you

  597. and working

  598. in their lives.

  599. You never understand

  600. the timing of God.

  601. I question it sometimes.

  602. But I'll tell you

  603. what's special about it.

  604. What I do know

  605. is that God's working

  606. in people's lives

  607. that I don't know

  608. anything about

  609. and God's working

  610. in my life

  611. that people don't

  612. know anything about.

  613. And when he puts us

  614. in contact with one another,

  615. special things

  616. can happen sometimes.

  617. Divine appointments

  618. where lives can change.

  619. And that's our responsibility.

  620. So my hope and prayer

  621. this week of the 4th,

  622. may we be stirred

  623. by the power

  624. of the gospel

  625. more than the power

  626. of politics

  627. and more than the power

  628. of our own selfish priorities.

  629. may we be stirred

  630. by the power

  631. of the gospel.

  632. Never head bowed,

  633. never I could...
