  1. Thank you, men.

  2. If you have your Bibles, I want you to turn to Ephesians chapter 6.

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  3. Ephesians chapter 6 is a story in Greek mythology about a great hero named Achilles.

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  4. The legend is that his mother, when he was a baby, dipped him in the river Styx to coat his entire body with an invincible shield.

  5. And when she dipped him, she held him by the tip of his heel so that only one portion of his body was not covered by those empowered waters.

  6. In the course of the great battle of the Trojan War, Achilles was struck in the heel of all places with an arrow and was slain.

  7. It was the one uncovered point on his body where he was vulnerable.

  8. And ever since then, men and women have been vulnerable by an injury to the Achilles.

  9. I promise you, it hurts.

  10. That's just mythology, my friend.

  11. What we're talking about these days is a real war.

  12. But a real war that if we're not careful, we can be very vulnerable to.

  13. It's an unseen war that is stoked by the devil and his demons.

  14. That is the undercurrent to much of the conflict and the difficulty that is seen and surrounds us today.

  15. We need not be vulnerable to that.

  16. I think there's power in knowledge, but only if you put that knowledge to use.

  17. We've studied the schemes of the evil one.

  18. Now we study protection from it.

  19. The Apostle Paul called it the armor of God.

  20. And he encourages us to make sure we're buckled up.

  21. Make sure we're plated.

  22. Make sure we're shielded.

  23. Make sure that we're properly footed.

  24. Make sure we're armed.

  25. Last week we looked at the belt of truth.

  26. That it is imperative that we not only believe in Christ, but that we commit our lives to such a belief.

  27. That we live it out.

  28. And the reality is that that kind of, like a belt, kind of holds everything together.

  29. Today we look at what the Apostle Paul calls the breastplate of righteousness.

  30. When he says in Ephesians 6 verse 14,

    Ephesians 6:14

  31. The breastplate was a key piece of the armor of a Roman soldier.

  32. It was often called a thorax.

  33. It was a breastplate that typically was made of bronze, which covered the front of the body.

  34. Although there were earlier versions, more primitive versions of it, that were made of thick metal.

  35. Sometimes with bone and metal, excuse me, thick leather.

  36. Excuse me, let me say that again.

  37. Made with thick leather, with bone and metal sometimes sewn in.

  38. More affluent officers may have made one of, have one made of chain mail, which is a small metal rings linked together to form a chest armor.

  39. But the breastplate usually started below the neck and went to the top of the thighs.

  40. It was made to protect the vital organs, primarily the lungs and the heart.

  41. Now with our lungs, we breathe in and out.

  42. We take in air and we exhale.

  43. And if we take in bad air, we'll pay for it.

  44. In the same way, spiritually, if we take in polluted stuff, we're going to suffer.

  45. You can't hang out in evil, negative, unwholesome atmospheres and it not affect you spiritually.

  46. You're going to breathe it in.

  47. It's going to affect you.

  48. Let me just say that in the last days before a national election of such significance,

  49. I encourage you to be careful how much of the propaganda you breathe in, okay?

  50. It's a big election.

  51. But what if it doesn't go your way?

  52. What if it doesn't go the way that I want it to?

  53. What are you going to do?

  54. If your person loses the election, what are you going to do?

  55. I'm going to tell you something.

  56. On November the 6th, whoever's going to be the president next year,

  57. on November the 6th, I'm going to get up

  58. and I'm going to make me a good, strong cup of coffee

  59. and I'm going to walk my dog and I'm going to read my Bible

  60. and I'm going to seek the face of the Lord

  61. and I'm going to trust his hand regardless.

  62. My trust is in God.

  63. The Oval Office does not change that.

  64. And I pray that America will make the best decision of two poor choices in my opinion.

  65. And I don't care to discuss that.

  66. But we need not be consumed with it.

  67. The world's consumed with it.

  68. But our hope is in Christ, folks.

  69. Let's not miss the perspective here.

  70. Don't take in too much of that mess.

  71. You'll be mad at the world.

  72. Now, my old adage is, and I think y'all live by it,

  73. don't spend more time watching the news than you spend time with the Lord.

  74. Because it will change your perspective.

  75. There's a lot that's worse, however, than watching the news and taking that in.

  76. And the things that are worse than that, stay away from them.

  77. There's no need in it.

  78. Be careful what you take in.

  79. Protect the air in which you breathe.

  80. Take in good air.

  81. Stay away from the unhealthy.

  82. The breastplate protected the lungs.

  83. It also protected the heart.

  84. And in the Greek mindset, the heart was the seat of a person's will,

  85. of their emotions, of their beliefs, of their attitudes.

  86. And the reality is, although we understand some things, anyway, about cardiology,

  87. the reality is when we talk about the heart,

  88. we talk in the same way as the Greek mindset.

  89. When you want somebody to give their all, you say, put your heart into it.

  90. When you get your heart broke, you say, somebody broke my heart.

  91. Or you'll say, I believe it with all my heart.

  92. Or even when you really want somebody to know you're telling the truth,

  93. I crossed my heart.

  94. That's when you know it's settled they got to be telling the truth.

  95. Especially with the needle in the eye.

  96. But that's a different subject.

  97. When Paul talks about having the mind of Christ in Philippians chapter 2,

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  98. he speaks of how feelings and attitudes should be like Christ.

  99. Philippians 2, 5 says, having this mind among yourselves,

  100. which is yours in Christ Jesus.

  101. I believe it's best summarized in Proverbs chapter 4, verse 23 through 25.

    Proverbs 4:23–25

  102. It says, keep your heart with all vigilance.

  103. For from it flow the springs of life.

  104. Put away from you crooked speech and put devious talk from you.

  105. Let your eyes look directly forward and your gaze be straight before you.

  106. Don't look to and fro.

  107. Look straight ahead.

  108. Righteousness protects what we take in.

  109. Righteousness protects what we breathe out.

  110. It also protects our heart, how we feel, how we respond.

  111. Well, what kind of righteousness am I talking about?

  112. Well, I'm glad you asked.

  113. Because it's not all the same.

  114. I want to share with you quickly three types of righteousness.

  115. And I want to be clear, all righteousness is not the same.

  116. One, there's insufficient righteousness.

  117. That's when we just try to do the right thing.

  118. We just do it in our own strength.

  119. And some think that they're righteous because of their religious efforts.

  120. Jesus spoke of that in a parable in Luke chapter 18, verses 9 through 14.

    Luke 18:9–14

  121. He said this,

  122. And he pointed at the guy next to him at the altar.

  123. Don't do that if you come to the altar today.

  124. Don't point at the guy next to you, okay?

  125. He said,

  126. I fast twice a week.

  127. I grieve tithes.

  128. I give tithes.

  129. And maybe grieve.

  130. But anyway, I give tithes of all that I get.

  131. But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven,

  132. but beat his breast, saying,

  133. God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

  134. I tell you, this man went down to the house.

  135. He's justified rather than the other.

  136. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled.

  137. And the one who humbles himself will be exalted.

  138. We give, we serve, we worship.

  139. We do those things.

  140. I want you to hear me this morning.

  141. We do those things not to pay back, not to be sufficient, but to obey.

  142. To trust God and obey.

  143. Obey the Lord.

  144. Trust everything else with the Lord.

  145. I want you to listen to what the Apostle Paul said.

  146. He said in Philippians chapter 3, 4 through 7, he said,

    Philippians 3 chapter mention

  147. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more.

  148. Circumcised on the eighth day of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin,

  149. a Hebrew of Hebrews, as to the law of Pharisee, as to zeal, a persecutor of the church,

  150. as to righteous under the law of blameless.

  151. But whatever gain I had, I count as loss for the sake of Christ.

  152. Now, to put it in our language, that's like him saying that

  153. I was dedicated to the Lord as a child.

  154. And I came from a family that was pillars in the church.

  155. And I was trained in all the programs of the church.

  156. And I volunteered.

  157. I worked in areas.

  158. And nobody even saw me doing it.

  159. I did stuff nobody even recognized.

  160. Then I served in leadership.

  161. I was a deacon.

  162. I taught a life group.

  163. I took some Bible classes.

  164. I might even worked on staff.

  165. The reality is, so much similar to what he said,

  166. all of that can come in the way.

  167. All of that stuff can set us back from what really matters.

  168. Paul explains his insufficient righteousness in Romans.

  169. When he says Romans, in Romans 7, verse 15,

    Romans 7:15

  170. He said,

  171. For I don't understand my own actions.

  172. For I do not do what I want,

  173. but I do the very thing I hate.

  174. Have you ever been there?

  175. Don't look at me smugly.

  176. You've been there.

  177. I know you have.

  178. Listen to what he goes on to say.

  179. For I know that nothing good dwells in me,

  180. that is in my flesh.

  181. For I have the desire to do what's right,

  182. but not the ability to carry it out.

  183. For I don't do the good that I want,

  184. but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.

  185. Of course we've been there,

  186. because our own righteousness is insufficient.

  187. We can't do this alone.

  188. We're not good enough, period.

  189. And then there's also imputed righteousness.

  190. That's a theological term,

  191. a word we don't use very much anymore,

  192. but I want to explain it.

  193. When someone submits his or her life to Christ,

  194. Christ, excuse me,

  195. God imputes Christ's righteousness

  196. into our lives.

  197. When Christ died on the cross,

  198. he was sinless.

  199. He was perfect,

  200. but he took on our sin.

  201. When we become Christians,

  202. we're sinful and we're unrighteous,

  203. but when we become a child of God,

  204. we are made right.

  205. We take on his righteousness,

  206. and we receive his ascribed,

  207. our imputed righteousness.

  208. Again, the apostle Paul,

  209. who God used to build our theology

  210. off the teachings of Christ

  211. and the law of God.

  212. He speaks a lot about this.

  213. And let me just say something about the apostle Paul.

  214. Just due to some conversations I've had

  215. in circles recently,

  216. I want you to understand

  217. that some try to separate the words of Jesus

  218. and the words of Paul,

  219. and they say that what Jesus said

  220. is what's important,

  221. and that somehow Paul is just a commentator

  222. along the way,

  223. not so much.

  224. He had his problems.

  225. Don't pick portions of God's word

  226. to value over other portions.

  227. This is God's word.

  228. Period.

  229. It is God-breathed, inspired,

  230. and we are able to see the life of Christ

  231. through the gospels.

  232. We're able to see his teaching

  233. and see what he shows us and how to live.

  234. And then God brought up the apostle Paul

  235. trained in all these ways that he spoke of

  236. to share with us

  237. how do we apply what we see in Christ's life?

  238. How do we apply what we hear him teach?

  239. How do we apply that to our life?

  240. That's where our Christian theology comes from.

  241. Paul, and with the help of a couple of other fellows,

  242. but the reality is most of it comes from Paul.

  243. So don't ever try to separate

  244. that somehow if Jesus didn't speak of this,

  245. then the Bible must not speak of it.

  246. That's not true.

  247. That's not true.

  248. That's just a little side note.

  249. That's free.

  250. That don't cost a thing.

  251. Don't pick portions of God's word to value

  252. and others to not.

  253. That's the word of God.

  254. God uses it all.

  255. It's all inspired.

  256. And what the apostle Paul says

  257. in Philippians chapter three, verse nine,

  258. is that when we gain Christ

  259. and are found in him,

  260. we don't have, notice how he says this,

  261. a righteousness of my own

  262. that comes from the law,

  263. but that which comes through faith in Christ,

  264. the righteousness of God,

  265. that depends on faith.

  266. In other words, as children of God,

  267. we have got what we need to live for Christ.

  268. We have righteous protections.

  269. That means that when we're saved,

  270. we're set apart,

  271. the Holy Spirit indwells us

  272. with the righteousness of Christ.

  273. Christ went to the cross sinless.

  274. He died his death for sinners.

  275. And when we accept his truth in our lives,

  276. he imputes righteousness into our lives.

  277. We are wired into it.

  278. He took our sin.

  279. We take his righteousness.

  280. The great theologian of the 16th century,

  281. Martin Luther, called it the glorious exchange

  282. when we hand him our sin

  283. and he hands us his righteousness.

  284. Christ has credited us with righteousness.

  285. Not on what we've done,

  286. but on what he's done for us.

  287. When we lost power,

  288. when Helene came through,

  289. we have a generator hooked up

  290. and the generator kicked in

  291. and was working wonderfully for the first 30 hours.

  292. And then it died.

  293. I went out there and laid hands on it.

  294. It didn't work.

  295. And I just had faith

  296. the power was going to come back on

  297. and if we find some kind of supplemental help,

  298. then the reality is

  299. we'll just go without it longer.

  300. So we'll just bear it.

  301. And we bore it.

  302. And it was dark.

  303. And I told you last week about the solar lights.

  304. And we just hung on,

  305. lost our food in the refrigerator

  306. and all that stuff.

  307. And several people in the church

  308. offered us generous.

  309. They did.

  310. And I said, no, we'll be all right.

  311. We'll be all right.

  312. We'll be all right.

  313. Well, finally, several days later,

  314. somebody said,

  315. Pastor,

  316. I'm bringing a generator

  317. and I'm going to wire it into your house.

  318. And I don't want to hear nothing else about it.

  319. I said, all right.

  320. He said, I'll bring you some gas.

  321. So he brought me some gas.

  322. I said, how often am I going to fill that thing?

  323. Every three hours?

  324. No, no, no, no, no.

  325. About every 12.

  326. So he hooked me up

  327. and we had lights

  328. and as it got warmer,

  329. we had ceiling fans

  330. and we were thanking God

  331. for the lights and the ceiling fans.

  332. We even got the sin box lit back up

  333. and was able to watch some TV, you know.

  334. So not watching sin.

  335. But anyway,

  336. but we got that taken care of.

  337. Some of y'all don't remember

  338. what they called it.

  339. But anyway,

  340. but you know what?

  341. What if all that would have been wired in

  342. and we just said,

  343. nah, we just don't bother.

  344. As it gets hotter outside,

  345. we ain't going to cut those ceiling fans on.

  346. We're not going to cut a lamp on.

  347. We're just going to sit here in the dark.

  348. We've got the capacity.

  349. It's been wired in,

  350. but we're just not going to utilize it.

  351. Well, that'd be kind of dumb.

  352. So it is for the Christian.

  353. When we are in Christ,

  354. we're made right.

  355. We've been justified.

  356. Romans 8 verse 1 says,

    Romans 8:1

  357. there is therefore now

  358. no condemnation for those

  359. who are in Christ Jesus.

  360. When we come to Christ,

  361. Christ makes us free.

  362. Now, that freedom

  363. and that credited righteousness

  364. needs to reflect

  365. in our lives.

  366. And that's the last type of righteousness.

  367. That's empowered righteousness.

  368. That's living out

  369. what we have within us

  370. as believers.

  371. Imputed righteousness

  372. changes our position.

  373. Once we're saved,

  374. we are in Christ.

  375. Our position has changed.

  376. Righteousness has been

  377. fastened on.

  378. Now we have to utilize it.

  379. Now we're empowered

  380. by the Holy Spirit of God.

  381. Now we have to practically

  382. live that out

  383. to daily depend upon his lead.

  384. And right living

  385. is what keeps Satan

  386. from getting

  387. an easy opportunity to attack.

  388. So let me ask you,

  389. is there a place that you go

  390. that makes you more vulnerable

  391. to fall into sin?

  392. If there is,

  393. stop going there.

  394. Is there a person

  395. that Satan uses

  396. to lead you into temptation?

  397. If there is,

  398. stop hanging with them.

  399. Now, if they live in your home,

  400. that's a different matter.

  401. Satan divides families.

  402. God does not.

  403. But

  404. is there a time of day

  405. or a situation

  406. or a conversation

  407. that makes you

  408. more vulnerable.

  409. If there is,

  410. notice that.

  411. And as the great theologian

  412. Barney Fife said,

  413. nip it in the bud.

  414. Get rid of it.

  415. Make the necessary changes

  416. to live right.

  417. And when we do,

  418. we're plated.

  419. Now,

  420. if we're plated

  421. with right living,

  422. if our minds

  423. are set on Christ

  424. and our eyes

  425. are fixed on Jesus,

  426. the author

  427. and perfecter

  428. of our faith

  429. as Hebrews 12,

  430. 1 and 2 says he is,

  431. then we grow more like him

  432. with each defeated temptation.

  433. This kind of utilize,

  434. this kind of living

  435. utilizes the strength

  436. that we have in Christ

  437. and makes us much stronger

  438. to the next attack

  439. of the evil one.

  440. And believe me,

  441. Satan will try his best

  442. to defeat you.

  443. He don't want to give you

  444. a headache.

  445. He wants to ruin

  446. your life.

  447. And he can force us to,

  448. he cannot force us to sin,

  449. but he works overtime

  450. to try to find

  451. our weakness.

  452. He loves to strike

  453. a spark

  454. that leads

  455. to a full flame

  456. of fire

  457. of temptation

  458. and failure.

  459. However,

  460. when we come to Christ,

  461. old things

  462. are passed away.

  463. behold,

  464. all things are new.

  465. We have a strength

  466. to squash

  467. the flickers

  468. of failure

  469. and weakening

  470. the force

  471. of temptation.

  472. Matthew 5,

    Matthew 5:6

  473. verse 6,

  474. Jesus said,

  475. blessed are those

  476. who hunger

  477. and thirst for righteousness

  478. for they shall

  479. be satisfied.

  480. Is that what

  481. we're hungry for?

  482. Does all of our lives

  483. reflect that?

  484. I know it reflects it

  485. on Sunday morning

  486. at 1030,

  487. but does all of our lives

  488. reflect that?

  489. In the Song of Solomon,

  490. it talks about

  491. building a wall

  492. to protect the vineyard,

  493. but it warns

  494. and says

  495. it's the little foxes

  496. that spoil the vines.

  497. And what it's talking about

  498. when you try to keep

  499. the deer

  500. and whatever other

  501. kind of animals

  502. they may have fought

  503. to keep out,

  504. if they leave cracks

  505. in that fence,

  506. little foxes

  507. will get through there

  508. and they won't eat

  509. the grapes

  510. off the vine.

  511. they'll eat

  512. that tender part

  513. of the vine

  514. around the bottom

  515. and they eat

  516. all the way around it

  517. and they kill

  518. the whole vine.

  519. You lose all the fruit.

  520. And that's what

  521. Solomon says in there.

  522. He says,

  523. it's the little foxes

  524. that spoil the vines.

  525. And quite honestly,

  526. fruitfulness,

  527. our fruitfulness

  528. is hindered

  529. by the little things

  530. in our lives.

  531. Like the little cracks

  532. in the breastplate

  533. that exposes the heart.

  534. If you've got

  535. a little bitter in you,

  536. it'll expose you.

  537. If you've got a little look

  538. that you look too long at,

  539. it'll expose you.

  540. If you have a little

  541. selfishness in your life,

  542. it'll expose you.

  543. If you have a little

  544. self-reliance,

  545. it'll expose you.

  546. Are you crooked?

  547. Just a little bit.

  548. It'll expose you.

  549. All of these things

  550. will throw us off

  551. in our walk with God

  552. and exposes us

  553. to an enemy

  554. that loves to attack.

  555. Not only does he

  556. love to attack,

  557. but he also loves

  558. to accuse.

  559. He's called

  560. the accuser

  561. of the brethren.

  562. And our cracks

  563. leave room

  564. for his insults.

  565. And be clear,

  566. if you're not living it,

  567. the world will know it.

  568. Your witness

  569. will be affected.

  570. And even if the world

  571. doesn't know it,

  572. nobody but you

  573. knows it,

  574. you will fail

  575. to be a witness

  576. because you're hindered,

  577. because you are weakened,

  578. because that weakness

  579. has been exposed

  580. to the evil one.

  581. And I promise you,

  582. the devil will remind

  583. you of it often.

  584. He'll not only tempt you,

  585. he'll dog you out.

  586. And he'll remind you

  587. of it often.

  588. The reality is

  589. that we settle

  590. for second best

  591. instead of God's very best

  592. in our lives too often.

  593. We wreck our lives

  594. with hypocrisy

  595. by not applying

  596. that which we know

  597. to be true.

  598. Matthew 6 verse 33

    Matthew 6:33

  599. says,

  600. seek first the kingdom

  601. of God

  602. and his righteousness

  603. and all these things.

  604. You know what that is?

  605. That means everything else.

  606. The Lord will provide

  607. the rest.

  608. If we'll seek him,

  609. whatever else

  610. you're worried about,

  611. he'll take care of that.

  612. That means we seek him

  613. every day.

  614. Are there going to be

  615. crazy days?

  616. Yeah.

  617. Yeah,

  618. there's going to be

  619. crazy days.

  620. Does God understand

  621. when crazy days come along?

  622. Yes,

  623. of course he understands that.

  624. However,

  625. we're speaking of more

  626. than just Christian lip service.

  627. We're talking about

  628. more than just showing up.

  629. We're speaking of

  630. maintaining

  631. a nurturing relationship,

  632. seeking him daily,

  633. seeking the right things

  634. of God daily.

  635. Right living

  636. is the breastplate

  637. that deflects

  638. the blows of condemnation

  639. and the shots

  640. at compromise.

  641. That's what deflects

  642. many of these blows.

  643. It's not in our strength.

  644. It's in the armor of God.

  645. It's not in our self-reliance.

  646. It's in our dependence

  647. upon him.

  648. Never underestimate

  649. your influence

  650. and do not let the devil

  651. tell you today

  652. that you are done,

  653. that you've already

  654. messed up,

  655. that God can't use you,

  656. that there's no starting over.

  657. There's a Greek word

  658. for that

  659. and it's baloney.

  660. It ain't true.

  661. It ain't true.

  662. You put on

  663. a breastplate of righteousness

  664. today,

  665. you get it right today

  666. and watch how God

  667. will use you.

  668. Martin Luther,

  669. that 16th century theologian

  670. I mentioned,

  671. said this.

  672. He says,

  673. because sometimes

  674. we don't think about

  675. the influence

  676. that we can have

  677. as Christians.

  678. We don't see it.

  679. Why don't you listen

  680. to what he says?

  681. The pagan does tremble

  682. at the rustling of a leaf.

  683. He feels the hound of heaven.

  684. That's what he called God,

  685. the hound of heaven.

  686. He sniffs us out

  687. and finds us.

  688. We don't find him.

  689. He finds us.

  690. He feels the hound of heaven

  691. breathing down his neck.

  692. Listen to this.

  693. He feels crowded

  694. by holiness

  695. even if it is only

  696. made present

  697. by an imperfect,

  698. partially sanctified

  699. human vessel.

  700. God uses

  701. imperfect vessels.

  702. Thank God.

  703. Amen?

  704. We'd all be hopeless

  705. if not.

  706. I want to read that again.

  707. I want you to get

  708. the full picture here.

  709. The pagan does tremble

  710. at the rustling of a leaf.

  711. You think he don't feel

  712. God moving in his life?

  713. He feels it.

  714. He feels the hound of heaven

  715. breathing down his neck.

  716. He feels crowded

  717. by holiness

  718. even if it's only

  719. made present

  720. by an imperfect,

  721. partially sanctified

  722. human vessel.

  723. Back in the mid-70s,

  724. one of the leading

  725. golfers in the PGA

  726. went golfing one day

  727. with Gerald Ford,

  728. the president

  729. of the United States

  730. at the time,

  731. Jack Nicklaus

  732. and Billy Graham.

  733. He's a pro golfer.

  734. He played with Jack,

  735. but he was blown away

  736. by being with Ford,

  737. the president,

  738. and Billy Graham.

  739. And after he finished,

  740. he was standing

  741. next to Jack Nicklaus

  742. and somebody said,

  743. what was it like

  744. playing with the president

  745. and with Billy Graham?

  746. And he said,

  747. Jack just started cussing

  748. and carrying on.

  749. And then he said,

  750. I don't need Billy Graham

  751. stuffing religion

  752. down my throat.

  753. And he went

  754. to the practice team.

  755. His friend followed him

  756. and in fury,

  757. he just started

  758. beating the balls.

  759. His neck was growing red.

  760. He was somewhat

  761. in a tirade.

  762. And finally,

  763. the pro golfer

  764. just got silent

  765. and settled down.

  766. And that friend said,

  767. was Billy a little

  768. rough on you today?

  769. And Jack replied,

  770. no,

  771. he didn't even mention religion.

  772. It's astonishing

  773. that Billy Graham

  774. had not said a word

  775. about God,

  776. about Jesus,

  777. or about religion.

  778. Yet the pro was angry

  779. when he left

  780. under the conviction

  781. that came from being

  782. in the presence

  783. of a man of God,

  784. Billy Graham.

  785. the righteousness

  786. of God

  787. is where our victory is.

  788. It's where our hope is.

  789. With every head bowed

  790. and every eye closed,

  791. I want to ask you today,

  792. if you've never surrendered

  793. your life to the Lord

  794. Jesus Christ,

  795. the reality is

  796. what I speak of

  797. is something foreign to you.

  798. I'm not going to tell you

  799. by coming to church

  800. you get that.

  801. It only comes

  802. through a relationship

  803. with Christ.

  804. If you've never

  805. surrendered your life

  806. to the Lord Jesus Christ,

  807. I want you to know

  808. it'll change your life

  809. when you do,

  810. for real.

  811. We'd love to guide you

  812. in that,

  813. and so I encourage you

  814. when we stand and sing

  815. in just a moment to come,

  816. love to start

  817. that process with you,

  818. sharing with you

  819. what it means

  820. to give your life to Christ.

  821. Maybe you've done that

  822. but never acknowledged

  823. it publicly.

  824. We baptized several

  825. last week.

  826. We'll do it again.

  827. Have you ever

  828. acknowledged Christ

  829. through baptism?

  830. If you haven't,

  831. you come.

  832. We'll line that up.

  833. Maybe God's drawing you

  834. to First Baptist Church.

  835. God's doing a wonderful work

  836. here and we're thankful.

  837. Maybe God's leading you

  838. to be a part of that.

  839. If He is,

  840. you come.

  841. Or maybe God's just

  842. showed you

  843. some cracks

  844. in your armor,

  845. showed you

  846. some things

  847. aren't right

  848. that you need

  849. to get right

  850. before the Lord.

  851. You do that.

  852. You can do that

  853. where you are.

  854. You can do it

  855. at His altar.

  856. You can do it

  857. with the pastor

  858. praying for you.

  859. I don't know

  860. what God's told you

  861. but I know

  862. you'll never be happy

  863. unless you do

  864. exactly what He's told you.

  865. So just be obedient.

  866. Heavenly Father,

  867. I love you

  868. and I ask for you

  869. to guide us right now

  870. to just simply be obedient

  871. and follow your lead

  872. in everything that we do

  873. in this very moment.

  874. In Jesus' precious name,

  875. amen.

  876. Amen.

  877. Amen.
