  1. From the Great Commission in Matthew 28 until the great multitude in Revelation 7,

  2. God invites us to join Him in the great pursuit.

  3. In a world filled with diverse cultures, languages, and people,

  4. we are unified in this mission, His mission.

  5. Since 1845, IMB missionaries have embarked on a journey to share the gospel,

  6. make disciples, and plant churches in places where Jesus is not yet known.

  7. But the task is monumental.

  8. Billions are still unreached, living without the hope and love of Christ.

  9. In 2023, over 879,000 people heard the gospel, 141,000 people believed, and 116,000 were baptized.

  10. Yet, so many more still wait for their chance to hear and believe.

  11. Lostness is not just a statistic.

  12. It's an eternal reality for billions of souls.

  13. But amidst the challenges, there's hope.

  14. The Great Pursuit is a faithful journey fueled by love, compassion,

  15. and the unwavering belief in the transformative power of the gospel.

  16. Stories of redemption, reconciliation, and restoration inspire us to press on.

  17. Our vision is rooted in Revelation 7, verse 9.

    Revelation 7:9

  18. A multitude from every corner of the world united in worshiping Jesus Christ.

  19. You are called to play your part in this vision.

  20. Whether you pray fervently, give generously, go boldly, or send faithfully,

  21. your role is vital in the Great Pursuit.

  22. Join us in solving the greatest problem in the world, lostness.

  23. Together, we spread the message of hope and salvation to every nation, tribe, and tongue.

  24. This is the Great Pursuit.

  25. If you have your Bibles, I want to turn to Matthew 28.

  26. Matthew 28, I'm going to be looking at a couple different places,

  27. but that's where I'm going to start.

  28. It is, as the song says, the most wonderful time of the year.

  29. Whether you're ready or not, it's December.

  30. And they say it's the most wonderful time of the year.

  31. I say somewhat.

  32. College football is almost over, so the most wonderful time of the year is leaving us.

  33. But after yesterday, you can go.

  34. But anyway.

  35. However, this is one of those times.

  36. We have a lot going on, and I want to encourage you to pay attention to the calendar in your bulletin

  37. and make note of it on your personal calendar.

  38. Next weekend, we have a wonderful opportunity.

  39. Our choir and orchestra and drama team have been working together for Merry Christmas Pickens,

  40. and it'll be a wonderful presentation of the gospel story.

  41. It'll take place on Saturday night as well as both worship hours on Sunday morning.

  42. And I want to encourage you not only to be here but to invite folks.

  43. If they have their own church and can't come on Sunday here, then that's what Saturday's for,

  44. is to allow folks and encourage folks to come and to be a part of that.

  45. It's a great time together.

  46. And then the Sunday preceding Christmas, December the 22nd,

  47. please make note that we'll have our two worship hours.

  48. We will not have life groups.

  49. We'll not be meeting for those two hours for life groups,

  50. but we will have our both worship hours on the 22nd.

  51. There is no midweek because midweek is Christmas Day.

  52. And then the 29th as well, we'll have one worship hour.

  53. We'll all come together for one worship hour, one combined worship hour.

  54. No life groups on the 29th, just one hour of worship together.

  55. So please make note of that.

  56. And we will not be meeting for midweek on January the 1st either.

  57. Throughout all of that, however, we are focusing in on one of my favorites.

  58. And that is the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for international missions.

  59. And I will say that we have a task before us.

  60. The national goal for the International Mission Board in this offering is $205 million.

  61. And our church goal is $66,000.

  62. Admittedly, we brought in more than that last year.

  63. And this year's goal is our highest yet.

  64. So if you're new to a Southern Baptist church and are not familiar with the Lottie Moon Christmas offering,

  65. who is this lady and when are we going to pay her off?

  66. That's what I've heard from children sometimes when they get done hearing somebody talk about Lottie Moon

  67. and think, when are we ever going to pay that lady off?

  68. Well, hopefully we won't.

  69. Lottie Moon was a missionary in China at the turn of the 20th century.

  70. And she had a tremendous burden to see folks come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

  71. And she served faithfully.

  72. The mission board ran out of money.

  73. And they told the missionaries to come home, that they could not afford to keep them on the field.

  74. She refused to come home.

  75. She knew that God had called her there and would not come home.

  76. And she grew so burdened for that that it affected her health.

  77. As well, she deprived herself in order to give to others.

  78. And she dealt with some malnutrition.

  79. Her faith became, I mean, her health became poor.

  80. And finally, she was forced, because she was going to die if she didn't, to get on a boat and start home.

  81. And it was on that boat on the way home that she died.

  82. Before she died, she started a special offering because of the great financial need that the International Mission Board had,

  83. the Foreign Mission Board at that time, had.

  84. And she started asking for churches to give a Christmas offering for International Missions.

  85. And after she died, some years later, that offering was named after her, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions.

  86. Now, so why do we bother to spend so much money on International Missions?

  87. I will tell you that if we reach our goal this year, if you combine that with our cooperative program giving

  88. and the portion of our cooperative program giving, because when you give a tithe to this church,

  89. a portion of that in 2024, 10% of that will go toward the cooperative program.

  90. Of that that goes to the cooperative program, about a quarter of that goes directly to International Missions.

  91. If you put all those formulas together, between us reaching our goal for Lottie Moon

  92. and between our cooperative program giving that goes to International Missions,

  93. we'll give over $100,000 to International Missions as a church.

  94. Why in the world would we put that much money into that?

  95. Well, I'm glad you asked.

  96. Matthew 28, verse 18 says this,

    Matthew 28:18

  97. And Jesus came and said to them,

  98. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

  99. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,

  100. baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit,

  101. teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you,

  102. and behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.

  103. That is known as the Great Commission.

  104. It is the last words that Jesus spoke before he ascended into heaven,

  105. and those words say that he has empowered us

  106. and sent us out to reach the world for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  107. We are to share Christ.

  108. We are to make disciples by nurturing them in his word.

  109. Now, our schedule changes about this time of year,

  110. but if you typically look at a worship bulletin

  111. and look at the schedule of the week,

  112. you'll notice that on Sundays,

  113. not only do we have corporate worship together,

  114. but we also have life groups.

  115. In addition to that, on Sunday evenings,

  116. we have sessions for children and for youth,

  117. as well as for adults.

  118. You'll notice as well on Tuesday mornings

  119. that we have Bible studies that take place across this campus.

  120. On Wednesday morning, we have a Bible study on Wednesday evening.

  121. We have opportunities for all ages as well.

  122. All of those things are about making disciples.

  123. Why do we meet on Sunday?

  124. Why do we meet on Tuesday?

  125. Why do we meet on Wednesday?

  126. Why are we available throughout the week

  127. and challenging you often to make disciples?

  128. That means not only do we have the responsibility

  129. to lead people to Christ

  130. and be a part of Christ saving them,

  131. but also we have a responsibility once they are saved

  132. to grow them up in the Lord.

  133. It's what we're called to do.

  134. He also tells us to baptize.

  135. To baptize, folks, is to lead people,

  136. to take a private committal faith

  137. and to make it public in a way that by Christ's commission

  138. and by his example, he's told us to do.

  139. Your faith, if it's in Christ, is not a private matter.

  140. I want to be clear.

  141. I've heard people say that before.

  142. Well, my faith is a private matter.

  143. Well, it's not a gospel faith then, friend,

  144. because the reality is Jesus told us to tell.

  145. He told us to go and to tell and to make disciples.

  146. He told us to share our faith.

  147. And so our faith is not a private matter.

  148. We are to win the world of Christ.

  149. He assures us that he will be with us all the way.

  150. And I want you to notice something.

  151. When it says making disciples,

  152. it says make disciples of all nations.

  153. Why are we always going places?

  154. Or why should I go anywhere?

  155. Because God's called us to go.

  156. And so I want to challenge you as you look toward 2025,

  157. go get your passport.

  158. Let's go somewhere.

  159. Let's do something for the Lord Jesus.

  160. Let's get after it.

  161. Because he guides us all the way,

  162. and that's a big deal.

  163. I want us to be a part.

  164. I want us to influence the great multitude.

  165. I hate the misuse of the book of Revelation so much.

  166. The point of that book was to give a future hope

  167. to a persecuted church in Asia Minor.

  168. There were seven churches,

  169. central locations where many, many small churches

  170. met around those areas.

  171. And John, while on the island of Patmos,

  172. received a vision from the Lord

  173. of a message that he was to share

  174. to those seven groups of people.

  175. He gives individual messages to those seven regions.

  176. And then the rest of that book is to give them hope

  177. in the midst of their circumstances.

  178. The point of the book is to give them hope

  179. by proclaiming not only a future victory by the Lord,

  180. but sharing that God has already been victorious.

  181. He is victorious.

  182. And we will celebrate that around his throne.

  183. It's going to be much better and more obvious in the future.

  184. That's after it gets worse.

  185. But I want you to notice something,

  186. a beautiful scene in the book of Revelation.

  187. I happen to love Revelation 1.

  188. That's not our text for the day.

  189. You don't have to look there.

  190. But I'm just telling you, while I'm here,

  191. I'm just going to camp out a minute.

  192. Revelation 1 I absolutely love

  193. because it's an amazing description of Christ

  194. walking among the churches that were hurting.

  195. He's addressing seven churches that are hurting.

  196. And it says that Christ, and it's a powerful image of Christ,

  197. is walking among the candlesticks.

  198. The candlesticks represent the churches

  199. that are to keep their flame lit

  200. and are to light the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  201. We're like a candlestick here in the midst of the darkness.

  202. And he is walking among the candlesticks.

  203. You know what that means?

  204. That means that no matter how you're hurting,

  205. no matter what's going on,

  206. no matter what the world's doing around you,

  207. the Lord Jesus loves this church

  208. and is walking in the midst of us.

  209. He is there with us, walking with us.

  210. And then there's an amazing description of heaven at the end.

  211. And there's a beautiful image of heaven in Revelation 7.

  212. And when God allowed John to see a vision into heaven,

  213. the scene is amazing.

  214. And I want you to get this scene.

  215. It's in Revelation 7, verse 9.

    Revelation 7:9

  216. It says this,

  217. After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude

  218. that no one could number from every nation,

  219. from all tribes and people and languages,

  220. standing before the throne and before the Lamb,

  221. clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands,

  222. and crying out with a loud voice,

  223. Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne

  224. and to the Lamb.

  225. And all the angels were standing around the throne

  226. and around the elders and the four living creatures,

  227. and they fell on their faces before the throne

  228. and worshipped God, saying,

  229. Amen.

  230. Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving

  231. and honor and power and might

  232. be to our God forever and ever.

  233. Amen.

  234. What a scene.

  235. What a scene.

  236. Can you imagine?

  237. It says there that there will be people from all nations

  238. and there will be more than we could count

  239. from all tribes, all peoples, all languages

  240. around the throne of God together.

  241. Can you imagine that?

  242. Well, I want to let you in on something.

  243. Not only can we be a part of that through Christ Jesus,

  244. we can influence that.

  245. We can influence that.

  246. The reality is that most people that die today

  247. will not get there.

  248. Most people that die today will not be in heaven.

  249. There will be more than we can count

  250. from around the world throughout all generations there,

  251. but the reality is most will not be there.

  252. And so I'm saying let's play a part

  253. and let's make it bigger.

  254. Let's make the crowd bigger.

  255. We don't have the ability to save.

  256. Don't misunderstand me.

  257. We don't have that ability.

  258. We have the ability to point people to a Christ

  259. that will save, that wants to save them.

  260. God has instructed us to share

  261. and promised us that he would bless us

  262. and Jesus saves eternally.

  263. Yes, he can save them without us,

  264. but why in the world should he?

  265. Why would we want him to?

  266. Don't you want to be a part of that cause?

  267. Which leads to the great pursuit.

  268. In Acts chapter 1 verse 8,

    Acts 1:8

  269. Jesus said,

  270. but you will receive power

  271. when the Holy Spirit's come upon you

  272. and you will be my witnesses

  273. in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria

  274. and to the end of the earth.

  275. Now Jesus ascended from Jerusalem.

  276. So let's get the context of this passage.

  277. He ascended from Jerusalem.

  278. When he tells them

  279. that they are to be witnesses in Jerusalem,

  280. he means that they are to be witnesses

  281. right where they are.

  282. Folks,

  283. we have a responsibility

  284. to be witnesses

  285. right where we are.

  286. Your neighbor,

  287. God may have strategically placed

  288. that neighbor beside you

  289. so that they can have a relationship with you

  290. and can possibly hear the gospel.

  291. You're not responsible

  292. for their response.

  293. You are responsible

  294. that they have a personal invitation

  295. to come to Christ.

  296. In the middle of football yesterday,

  297. I sent out a message

  298. in anticipation of the day

  299. to over 700 people

  300. and said,

  301. pray,

  302. invite,

  303. anticipate.

  304. And the reason why I sent that

  305. was because I believe

  306. God's placed us here

  307. in our Jerusalem

  308. where we live

  309. to make a difference

  310. in the lives of people

  311. that are around us.

  312. He goes beyond that.

  313. He speaks of Judea.

  314. How does that relate to us?

  315. That's the wider region.

  316. That's the South Carolina for us.

  317. That's the North America for us.

  318. He goes on to talk about Samaria.

  319. You may be familiar that

  320. I didn't like people in Samaria.

  321. It's the further reaches.

  322. It's the people around the world.

  323. It's the people that

  324. you may not have a burden for.

  325. It's the people that

  326. you may not want to have much to do with.

  327. The reality is

  328. that we have a responsibility

  329. to those that would go unnoticed

  330. unless we respond

  331. if we don't do our part.

  332. So what is our part?

  333. Well, for one,

  334. it's to pray.

  335. We have 3,600 missionaries

  336. with the International Mission Board

  337. on the field

  338. serving throughout the world.

  339. In September,

  340. I flew to Richmond, Virginia

  341. to go to what was called

  342. an International Mission Board

  343. Senders Summit.

  344. They said they wanted to talk

  345. about building a pipeline.

  346. I didn't really know

  347. what they were building

  348. a pipeline to

  349. and I wasn't really sure

  350. what the conference was about.

  351. But quite honestly,

  352. the reason I went to the conference

  353. is because it was held

  354. at a training center

  355. for the IMB missionaries.

  356. When they are called

  357. and commissioned to go,

  358. they go to this training center

  359. for six weeks to be trained.

  360. And I wanted to smell it

  361. and taste it a little bit

  362. and see what we were talking about.

  363. I'll go far reaches

  364. for a sermon illustration.

  365. And so I wanted to be a part of that.

  366. But as well,

  367. I wanted to be a part of

  368. meeting some of my heroes,

  369. which are missionaries,

  370. those that God has called

  371. to go to other places

  372. to serve the world,

  373. pick up their families

  374. and move them to other places.

  375. It was quite amazing

  376. to be a part of that

  377. because the week that I was there,

  378. the few days,

  379. it wasn't a week,

  380. the few days that I was there,

  381. they had more

  382. international missionaries

  383. on that campus

  384. than they had had

  385. in over a decade.

  386. There were over 100 folks there

  387. doing the training

  388. before they went overseas

  389. to serve the world.

  390. Now, our conference

  391. was not interacting

  392. with missionaries.

  393. I was interacting

  394. with IMB personnel

  395. and some churches

  396. that play a major part

  397. in helping new missionaries

  398. go to the field

  399. and they were sharing

  400. their stories with us

  401. and those type things.

  402. But we were on the same campus

  403. and we ate in the same cafeteria

  404. as all those missionaries

  405. and their families.

  406. And so I always made a point

  407. with every meal

  408. to sit down

  409. and sit with another missionary's family

  410. to get to know them

  411. and to meet them

  412. and to find out

  413. what their story is

  414. and where they were going.

  415. I met guys

  416. that had just graduated,

  417. were about to graduate

  418. from college

  419. that were going to serve

  420. as what's called journeymen.

  421. It's a two-year mission

  422. overseas

  423. where they were,

  424. one of them

  425. was going to be a trekker.

  426. He was simply going

  427. to take people hiking

  428. and while he took them hiking,

  429. share the gospel with them

  430. and build relationships with them.

  431. There were all kinds

  432. of different aspects

  433. that they would do

  434. and it was fascinating

  435. to see these

  436. who had been touched

  437. by the Lord

  438. and called by the Lord

  439. to go.

  440. It was amazing to see.

  441. It's a training center

  442. that's on the countryside

  443. outside of Richmond

  444. on I think about 140 acres.

  445. I might have just made

  446. that figure up

  447. but you know

  448. most statistics

  449. are made up on the spot anyway

  450. but I was able

  451. to spend time with them

  452. and I learned

  453. that the strategy

  454. that we have

  455. as Southern Baptists

  456. to reach the world

  457. is through eight

  458. different strategic areas

  459. called affinities.

  460. One is Europe.

  461. The second one

  462. is North Africa

  463. and the Middle East.

  464. The third is

  465. Sub-Saharan Africa.

  466. The fourth is Central Asia.

  467. The fifth is South Asia.

  468. The sixth is the Pacific Rim.

  469. Seven is the Americas

  470. and I don't know

  471. if you can see that or not

  472. but when it says number eight

  473. it's sitting over South America

  474. but it's got a little asterisk beside it

  475. and that asterisk speaks

  476. of not just South America

  477. but the rest of the world.

  478. That's the deaf community.

  479. One of our affinities

  480. are the deaf community

  481. throughout the world

  482. and how desperately folks

  483. need to know the Lord.

  484. I want you to understand

  485. how desperate the need is.

  486. For instance,

  487. the United Kingdom

  488. which we have had

  489. a missionary here

  490. a couple of times

  491. since I've been here

  492. from England.

  493. Kenny is over

  494. a large number

  495. of missionaries

  496. in the UK

  497. and I grew up with him.

  498. He's a dear friend of mine

  499. and because of his position

  500. with the International Mission Board

  501. he had the opportunity

  502. to move to other parts

  503. of the UK

  504. and he has recently moved

  505. to Ireland.

  506. He had planned to move

  507. earlier than this

  508. to Ireland

  509. to Dublin area

  510. and there was a hold up

  511. that kind of delayed

  512. not only his move

  513. but our participation

  514. with his new ministry there

  515. in Ireland

  516. but in the UK

  517. only 1.46% of people

  518. are Christian

  519. and have a personal relationship

  520. professing relationship

  521. with Christ

  522. 1.46%

  523. in Russia

  524. only 1 in 500 people

  525. are Christian

  526. and I got to thinking

  527. about 1 in 500

  528. how does that range?

  529. So if you

  530. if that was the case

  531. in Pickens County

  532. if only 1 in 500

  533. knew the Lord

  534. those in attendance

  535. here today

  536. between our two

  537. worship hours

  538. would almost double

  539. the amount of believers

  540. in our county

  541. that would be the entirety

  542. of those

  543. that would be saved

  544. in our county

  545. on those kind of

  546. representations

  547. in other words

  548. people need

  549. the Lord

  550. and we need to pray

  551. for that to happen

  552. now to give more

  553. guided prayer

  554. during this particular week

  555. there is available

  556. in a foyer

  557. a little booklet

  558. it looks just like this

  559. on both those black tables

  560. I put them out there myself

  561. just right before

  562. the first service

  563. and it's the Week of Prayer

  564. for International Missions

  565. 2024

  566. Prayer Guide

  567. and it'll give you

  568. somebody to pray for

  569. you can go online

  570. and get more information

  571. about them

  572. but they give you

  573. somebody to pray for

  574. every day

  575. starting today

  576. through next Sunday

  577. it's the Week of Prayer

  578. for International Missions

  579. today's guy

  580. is named Moses

  581. Moses grew up

  582. in West Africa

  583. and Moses was saved

  584. while he was in West Africa

  585. and God led him

  586. to come to America

  587. and become

  588. a Bible college student

  589. and he came over here

  590. and went to Bible college

  591. and he and his wife

  592. also felt led

  593. to go to seminary

  594. and they went to seminary

  595. and then God called them

  596. back to Africa

  597. and he serves in Senegal

  598. actually he serves

  599. in islands outside of Senegal

  600. now I went to Guinea

  601. in 2000 April of 2017

  602. on a vision trip

  603. it was a partnership

  604. that the state of Mississippi had

  605. and I lived there at the time

  606. and I went over

  607. and went to Guinea

  608. and some of the missionaries

  609. that I dealt with

  610. there

  611. because again

  612. I tell you

  613. they're my heroes now

  614. I mean

  615. there was a family

  616. that moved from Arkansas

  617. that I ate in their home

  618. they had about four kids

  619. and they moved from Arkansas

  620. to the biggest city in Guinea

  621. sent their kids

  622. to a primarily French

  623. speaking school

  624. their kids did not speak French

  625. and nobody spoke English

  626. except them

  627. they had a wall

  628. around their house

  629. with a gate

  630. and on top of that wall

  631. there were pieces of glass

  632. that had been cemented

  633. into the top

  634. to keep people

  635. from coming over

  636. the top of that wall

  637. and they were walking

  638. their kids to school

  639. it was an amazing sacrifice

  640. that these folks

  641. successful people

  642. in Arkansas

  643. picked up and left

  644. and went

  645. I'm telling you

  646. because of the gospel

  647. and because of what God's placed

  648. upon their life

  649. those are my heroes man

  650. to be able to do that

  651. and move your family

  652. and all that stuff

  653. I've never felt led

  654. to do that

  655. I prayed about that

  656. and asked God

  657. what would you have me do

  658. and hey

  659. y'all are it

  660. but I mean

  661. I've never felt led

  662. to do that

  663. but I'm telling you

  664. the people who

  665. are led to do that

  666. they're my heroes man

  667. I can't help but

  668. bump elbows with them

  669. and appreciate them

  670. and one of the reasons

  671. why I love to go

  672. is to encourage them

  673. to let them know

  674. we love you

  675. we care about you

  676. we're praying for you

  677. and if there's something

  678. we can do to help you

  679. please tell me

  680. because these folks

  681. will step up

  682. when they need to step up

  683. and let us know

  684. what we can do

  685. sometimes it's very simple things

  686. and sometimes it's not

  687. but it's a wonderful blessing

  688. to do that

  689. but those people

  690. had served previously

  691. in Senegal

  692. and Senegal was like

  693. the nice place to stay

  694. versus Guinea

  695. Guinea is not the nice place

  696. to stay

  697. I promise you

  698. but anyway

  699. so Senegal was a nicer area

  700. it had presentable beaches

  701. instead of trash

  702. all over the beaches

  703. and all that kind of stuff

  704. well Moses went to Senegal

  705. not the Moses of the Bible

  706. the Moses of the missionary

  707. that I'm talking about

  708. Moses went to Senegal

  709. and he serves in the islands

  710. off of Senegal

  711. Moses can't swim

  712. and he's very afraid of water

  713. and God in his sense of humor

  714. called him

  715. to be an island missionary

  716. and so he put on a life jacket

  717. got in a boat

  718. and went over to an island

  719. and showed the Jesus film

  720. the Jesus film

  721. is a film

  722. that tells the story of Jesus

  723. I think it's translated

  724. in over a hundred languages

  725. and he showed them

  726. that movie

  727. 25 people

  728. that movie

  729. in their language

  730. and 15 of them

  731. got saved

  732. in that session

  733. when he first got there

  734. and he's been ministering

  735. to them

  736. ever since

  737. pray

  738. for Moses

  739. that God would work

  740. and move

  741. in his life

  742. life

  743. you know

  744. what I found out

  745. when I was in Guinea

  746. when I was in Guinea

  747. was so many of them

  748. animism is big over there

  749. which is a cultic

  750. kind of naturalistic

  751. spiritual world

  752. that they believe in

  753. that is

  754. that is demonic

  755. quite honestly

  756. but also

  757. the Muslim faith

  758. is very strong

  759. there

  760. and there are people

  761. who have committed

  762. their lives to Christ

  763. but have yet to be baptized

  764. because if they're baptized

  765. they'll lose their job

  766. they'll lose their family

  767. they'll be completely ostracized

  768. and so for somebody

  769. to get baptized over there

  770. and make a public confession

  771. of faith

  772. it is a life change

  773. and so so many

  774. of the people

  775. that I met

  776. along the way

  777. were Christians

  778. that were still struggling

  779. with that whole deal

  780. of what to do about that

  781. because young people

  782. give their heart and life

  783. to the Lord Jesus

  784. and if they get baptized

  785. their family will disown them

  786. they'll have nothing

  787. and so they struggle with that

  788. I was on a college campus

  789. over there

  790. meeting with

  791. with the college students

  792. and went

  793. rode in

  794. 120 miles

  795. over 8 hours

  796. into the bush

  797. and went into

  798. a small village there

  799. where people over there

  800. need desperately

  801. to hear the gospel

  802. and I went over there

  803. with a medical doctor

  804. who treats folks

  805. in a hospital

  806. and by treating them

  807. in a hospital

  808. he also shares Christ

  809. with them

  810. Dr. Robert Pepper

  811. wonderful

  812. but anyway

  813. God's doing wonderful

  814. things over there

  815. and he's doing it

  816. through people like Moses

  817. and we need to pray

  818. for him

  819. not only that

  820. to pray

  821. but we also need to go

  822. it is my prayer

  823. that God would call people

  824. out of this congregation

  825. to reach the world

  826. for Christ

  827. he's done it before

  828. and I pray

  829. he does it again

  830. have you ever considered it

  831. I mean let's think about this

  832. have you ever even dared

  833. to pray about it

  834. it is the greatest pursuit

  835. for the gospel

  836. and I want you to get

  837. a taste of it

  838. we have put

  839. purposely

  840. put more money

  841. for 2025

  842. toward getting involved

  843. in missions

  844. and going on mission

  845. than we've had previously

  846. we have a team

  847. that's going to Toronto

  848. this summer

  849. last summer

  850. that team went

  851. and did back

  852. our Bible clubs

  853. they plan to do something

  854. very similar there as well

  855. how about Peru

  856. we've had an ongoing

  857. relationship with Peru

  858. for a long time

  859. and Jeff Rafferty

  860. and Jim Gilstrap

  861. train pastors online

  862. since COVID

  863. they've done

  864. Zoom calls online

  865. where they'll meet

  866. with as many

  867. as 100 pastors

  868. on a Friday night

  869. late Friday night

  870. teaching them doctrine

  871. in order for them

  872. to get training

  873. that they can't get

  874. otherwise

  875. we support

  876. a missionary

  877. over there

  878. that's going

  879. into the jungles

  880. he's native from there

  881. but he's going

  882. into the jungles

  883. and sharing faith

  884. and there's trips

  885. that go

  886. into the jungles there

  887. we also are teaching children

  888. and want to expand that

  889. there's some light construction

  890. that we're looking at doing

  891. and so Jeff is already

  892. in the planning stages

  893. of planning a trip

  894. to Peru

  895. next year

  896. what about Europe

  897. Kenny has shared with me

  898. my missionary in Ireland

  899. has shared with me

  900. that he'd love

  901. for a small team

  902. to come in September

  903. and help in a church

  904. that he is working in there

  905. and supporting

  906. to just get the word out

  907. and to just be a help

  908. on the ground

  909. so we plan to do that

  910. and what about

  911. a community rebuild

  912. we got communities

  913. around us

  914. ravaged by floods

  915. we found out

  916. after Helene came through

  917. we didn't have to go

  918. very far

  919. to help people

  920. rebuild their lives

  921. and so

  922. we have mission teams

  923. that are planning

  924. on going to

  925. do a community rebuild

  926. we don't have to go far

  927. to be productive

  928. in ministry

  929. my question is

  930. what would God

  931. have you do

  932. and are you even

  933. open to do it

  934. if he leads you

  935. to do it

  936. I just encourage you

  937. to pray about it

  938. encourage you to pray

  939. what would God

  940. have you do

  941. and then prepare

  942. yourself for it

  943. as I told you earlier

  944. go get a passport

  945. be ready

  946. in case God

  947. leads you to go

  948. go and

  949. to share

  950. however this time

  951. I also ask you

  952. to give

  953. I ask you to give

  954. 10% of our

  955. all undesignated money

  956. that's given

  957. to Pickens First

  958. Baptist Church

  959. in 2024

  960. goes through

  961. the cooperative program

  962. more than half

  963. of that money

  964. stays in the state

  965. of South Carolina

  966. to provide support

  967. for planning churches

  968. and for raising up

  969. missionaries

  970. and supporting

  971. our own county

  972. RA camp

  973. at Camp McCall

  974. it supports that

  975. however

  976. when you give

  977. to the cooperative

  978. program

  979. and when you give

  980. your tithe

  981. to First Baptist

  982. you give the cooperative

  983. program

  984. a quarter of what

  985. goes to the cooperative

  986. program

  987. goes directly

  988. to international

  989. missions

  990. that total

  991. that comes

  992. from the cooperative

  993. program

  994. that goes

  995. to international

  996. missions

  997. that nationwide

  998. total

  999. is about half

  1000. of what they need

  1001. the other half

  1002. of what they need

  1003. to keep personnel

  1004. on the field

  1005. comes from

  1006. the Lottie Moon

  1007. Christmas offering

  1008. and it takes

  1009. an average

  1010. of $77,000

  1011. to keep a missionary

  1012. on the field

  1013. now in some places

  1014. in the world

  1015. it's more expensive

  1016. than that

  1017. in some places

  1018. in the world

  1019. that's impoverished

  1020. it's a lot cheaper

  1021. than that

  1022. but on the average

  1023. what it takes

  1024. to keep a missionary

  1025. on the field

  1026. is $77,000

  1027. however

  1028. I promise you

  1029. that if we don't

  1030. support the Lottie Moon

  1031. Christmas offering

  1032. we will not have

  1033. the personnel

  1034. in place

  1035. in those

  1036. hard to reach areas

  1037. missionaries

  1038. will come home

1039. and what we run into

  1040. is a real situation

  1041. in real time

  1042. now

  1043. missionaries

  1044. are retiring

  1045. and we need

  1046. part of that conference

  1047. that I went to

  1048. is to make sure

  1049. that we do

  1050. everything we can

  1051. to prepare

  1052. the next generation

  1053. to take their place

  1054. that we call

  1055. the called out

  1056. that we

  1057. support

  1058. the cooperative

  1059. program

  1060. to make our

  1061. seminaries strong

  1062. so that they get

  1063. the proper training

  1064. in order to go

  1065. so that we give

  1066. through the cooperative

  1067. program

  1068. to help

  1069. with international

  1070. missions

  1071. but also that we

  1072. give through Lottie Moon

  1073. because the difference

1074. in giving to Lottie Moon

  1075. versus these other

  1076. things

  1077. is when you give

1078. a dollar to Lottie Moon

  1079. that dollar

  1080. goes directly

  1081. to international

  1082. missions

  1083. it actually goes

  1084. to pay the salaries

  1085. of the missionaries

  1086. on the field

  1087. that's what it's for

  1088. they may raise

  1089. some support

  1090. for ministry

  1091. activities that they do

  1092. or special projects

  1093. along the way

  1094. and all that stuff

  1095. but they are guaranteed

  1096. through the Lottie Moon

  1097. Christmas offering

  1098. and through the cooperative

  1099. program

  1100. that they will be

  1101. covered if they'll go

  1102. and as missionaries

  1103. retire

  1104. we need to keep

  1105. to create

  1106. and keep pipeline

  1107. clear

  1108. to pipe missionaries

  1109. to the field

  1110. to keep them going

  1111. our goal this year

  1112. as a church

  1113. is $66,000

  1114. last year

  1115. our goal

  1116. was $1,000

  1117. less than that

  1118. but our goal

  1119. and I want you

1120. to hear me this morning

  1121. but our goal

  1122. last year

  1123. was reached

  1124. during the month

  1125. of December

  1126. I went back

  1127. and looked

  1128. this week

  1129. to see

  1130. and we reached it

  1131. during the month

  1132. of December

  1133. my friend

  1134. that's the way

  1135. you do it

  1136. when God

  1137. puts a goal

  1138. before you

  1139. and we have

  1140. a responsibility

  1141. to fulfill it

  1142. and it's an aggressive

  1143. goal

1144. but we get it done

  1145. as God allows us

  1146. to do

  1147. I think you ought

  1148. to set a goal

  1149. for the glory

  1150. of God

1151. and then get it done

1152. and as the little kid

  1153. said pay the lady

  1154. off

  1155. you know

  1156. get it done

  1157. and give faithfully

  1158. to Lottie Moon

  1159. now to be honest

  1160. with you

  1161. this church

  1162. has faithfully

  1163. given to Lottie Moon

  1164. for many many years

  1165. I'm thankful

  1166. that that is just

  1167. growing

  1168. quite honestly

  1169. and I feel sure

  1170. that we'll be faithful

  1171. to do that

  1172. there's envelopes

  1173. that look like this

  1174. with the blue

  1175. markings around them

  1176. you can pick one

  1177. of those up

  1178. as you leave

  1179. and always mark

  1180. that Lottie Moon

  1181. and you can give

  1182. that way

  1183. you can give online

  1184. you can give

  1185. any way

  1186. God leads you

  1187. to give

  1188. I encourage you

  1189. to give

  1190. to that

  1191. but more importantly

  1192. than all of that

  1193. while we try

  1194. to go throughout

  1195. the world

  1196. to share the gospel

  1197. my question is

  1198. do you

  1199. know the Lord

  1200. Jesus Christ

  1201. have you

  1202. ever surrendered

  1203. your life

  1204. to follow

  1205. the Lord Jesus

  1206. because I'm thankful

  1207. that the gospel

  1208. is

  1209. that if you confess

  1210. that you've done wrong

  1211. and that you're a sinner

  1212. that he'll meet you

  1213. where you are

  1214. and he'll forgive you

  1215. of your sins

  1216. and he'll come

  1217. into your life

  1218. and he'll save you

  1219. and change you

  1220. if you've never

  1221. given your heart

  1222. and life

1223. to the Lord Jesus Christ

  1224. the greatest decision

  1225. you'll ever make

  1226. is to surrender

  1227. your life to Christ

  1228. maybe you've done that

  1229. and it's a private faith

  1230. you've done it privately

  1231. but you've never

  1232. done it publicly

  1233. you've never let

  1234. anybody else know

  1235. what God has done

  1236. in your life

1237. I want to encourage you

1238. to take that private faith

1239. and be obedient to God

  1240. and make it public

1241. the way we do that

  1242. by his example

  1243. and by his commission

  1244. is through baptism

  1245. baptism is a

  1246. public way

  1247. of confessing

  1248. what Christ

  1249. has done

  1250. in your life

  1251. privately

  1252. and if you've

  1253. never done that

  1254. I encourage you

  1255. to be obedient

  1256. to that

  1257. maybe God's leading

1258. you to be a part

  1259. of Pickens First

  1260. Baptist Church

  1261. I'm thankful

  1262. we have several

  1263. guests here today

  1264. some of you

  1265. have been with us

  1266. for some time

  1267. and I'm thankful

  1268. for that

  1269. God's doing

  1270. a wonderful work

  1271. in Pickens First

  1272. Baptist Church

  1273. and if God's leading

1274. you to be a part

  1275. of this church

  1276. you come

  1277. we'd love to guide

  1278. you in that process

  1279. but listen

  1280. I don't have a clue

  1281. what God's telling you

  1282. in your heart

  1283. and life

  1284. I just want you

  1285. to be obedient

  1286. you'll never be satisfied

  1287. until you follow

  1288. what his will is

  1289. for your life

1290. and so you be obedient

  1291. if I can help

  1292. in that process

  1293. that's exactly

  1294. what this time

  1295. is for

  1296. stand together

  1297. if you will

  1298. I'm going to pray

1299. and we're going to sing

  1300. Heavenly Father

  1301. I love you

1302. and I thank you Lord

1303. for your love for us

1304. and I ask right now

  1305. that you will lead

  1306. and guide us

  1307. help us to simply

  1308. be obedient

  1309. as you speak

  1310. to our hearts

  1311. and lives

  1312. Father

  1313. in Jesus precious name

  1314. Amen
