  1. Thank you, men. If you have your Bibles, I want you to turn to Proverbs chapter 14. Proverbs

    Proverbs 14 chapter mention

  2. ! Chapter 14. It seems we're reminded every day of the crises that fall upon America.

  3. Just a little good news here and there, it seems like, is all we get. And sometimes that bad news

  4. hits close to home. Some of it we simply read about and watch from afar. Is America really

  5. in a crisis? Or are these just things that you deal with and you ought to expect from time

  6. to time among fallible people? Well, you should definitely expect the type of things we see

  7. on the news to happen. But yes, I do believe we are in a crisis. Our crisis is not the economy.

  8. Whether it feels good at your house now or not, they tell us that things are pretty good. People

  9. are buying more. People are borrowing more. People are blowing more than they ever have.

  10. Our government has borrowed from our children's children and individual household debt is at an

  11. all-time high. We have a situation. And I don't know all the answers to that. I can teach you what the

  12. Word of God says about stewardship and the importance to give to the Lord first and to be stewards of what

  13. God gives you. But I don't know how all this is going to pan out. I do know this, that our nation's

  14. national crisis is not the economy. Our national crisis is not the wars. And I say wars because

  15. between the Middle East and Russia, they give us new ammo every day on what's happening. No pun intended.

  16. But I mean, you know, there's so much going on in the world. We have military personnel spread out

  17. throughout the world, particularly in the Middle East. And we have countries that we know are fighting.

  18. And we have some that we know that we're going to have to fight or at least protect. And then some that

  19. we have to watch like a hawk. And when I think about the sacrifices that so many families are making

  20. so that men and women can go to work protecting our country from the rest of the world, it makes me

  21. glad to live in a land where people sign up most of the time anyway in our history out of their own

  22. free will, willing to serve, to protect us. With so much volatility, it can be overwhelming. And people often

  23. want to know if this is the end. When you see what's going on overseas, does this mean this is the end? Or is it

  24. merely the beginning of birth pains, as Jesus put it? I don't know. And you know what?

  25. The guys that are selling the books that you're buying, they don't know either. They don't.

  26. So what I would encourage you to do is keep your eyes on Jesus. And I believe that if you're here

  27. today and you've never given your heart and life to the Lord Jesus Christ, that there's not a better

  28. day in your life than today to secure your eternity with the Lord. And I'd love to help you with that

  29. process in just a few minutes. I'd love that. But the reality is we don't know all those things.

  30. Luke chapter 21 verse 28 says this, now when these things begin to take place, the kind of things you

    Luke 21:28

  31. see, straighten up and raise your heads because your redemption is drawing near. We have some situations,

  32. situations. But I can tell you that our national crisis is not war conflicts.

  33. Our national crisis is not drugs. Drugs are a real problem. And, but the reality is it's the source.

  34. It's not the source of a crisis. It's the fruit of the crisis. People that take illegal drugs do it

  35. because something is missing inside. They either need to be accepted. They need to escape.

  36. They need to find relief because there's a problem of the heart.

  37. But the drug problem in America is just a fruit of a different problem.

  38. And may I be blunt, the drug that affects most homes in America, that affects the most homes in America,

  39. is alcohol.

  40. Christian, stay away from it.

  41. If you can use it and it not be a stumbling block for you,

  42. your use of it

  43. is easily a stumbling block for others.

  44. So why be compromised?

  45. Don't be a hindrance to others.

  46. Drugs of all sorts are a problem, but

  47. drugs

  48. are not our greatest national crisis.

  49. Our national crisis

  50. is not gun control.

  51. On

  52. April the 20th, 1999,

  53. Eric Harris

  54. and Dylan Klebold

  55. walked into Columbine High School

  56. in Colorado

  57. and murdered 13 students

  58. and a teacher.

  59. Ten died

  60. in the library that day

  61. before both guys

  62. took their own life

  63. in that same library.

  64. They had intended

  65. to

  66. primarily

  67. blow up the school

  68. with several

  69. homemade bombs

  70. that were planted

  71. within the school,

  72. but they failed to go off.

  73. And over 20 people

  74. were

  75. injured

  76. in the gun

  77. bite.

  78. Columbine

  79. became the catch

  80. word

  81. for school

  82. shootings.

  83. At that time,

  84. it was the greatest

  85. school shooting,

  86. the largest

  87. school shooting,

  88. the most mass

  89. school shooting

  90. that had ever taken place.

  91. And the immediate

  92. response to that

  93. was gun control.

  94. one of the

  95. students

  96. that was killed

  97. that day

  98. was named

  99. Rachel Scott.

  100. And in the

  101. aftermath

  102. of that tragedy,

  103. her father,

  104. Daryl Scott,

  105. spoke to Congress

  106. to make clear

  107. what the real

  108. problem was.

  109. And I want you

  110. to listen to part

  111. of what he said.

  112. Since the dawn

  113. of creation,

  114. there has been

  115. both good and evil

  116. in the heart

  117. of men and women.

  118. We all contain

  119. the seeds

  120. of good kindness

  121. or the seeds

  122. of violence.

  123. The death

  124. of my wonderful

  125. daughter,

  126. Rachel Joy Scott,

  127. and the deaths

  128. of that heroic

  129. teacher and the

  130. other 11 children

  131. who died

  132. must not be in vain.

  133. Their blood cries

  134. out for answers.

  135. The first recorded

  136. act of violence

  137. was when Cain

  138. slew his brother

  139. Abel in the field.

  140. The villain

  141. was not the club

  142. that he used.

  143. Neither was it

  144. the NCA

  145. or the National

  146. Club Association.

  147. The true

  148. killer was Cain.

  149. And the reason

  150. for the murder

  151. could only be found

  152. in Cain's heart.

  153. In the days

  154. that followed

  155. the Columbine

  156. tragedy,

  157. I was amazed

  158. at how quickly

  159. fingers began

  160. to be pointed

  161. at groups

  162. such as the NRA.

  163. And I'm not

  164. a member of the NRA.

  165. I'm not a hunter.

  166. I don't even own

  167. a gun.

  168. I'm not here

  169. to represent

  170. or defend the NRA

  171. because I don't

  172. believe they are

  173. responsible for

  174. my daughter's death.

  175. Therefore,

  176. I don't believe

  177. that they need

  178. to be defended.

  179. If I believed

  180. they had anything

  181. to do with Rachel's

  182. murder,

  183. I would be

  184. their strongest

  185. opponent.

  186. I'm here today

  187. to declare that

  188. Columbine was not

  189. just a tragedy,

  190. it was a spiritual

  191. event that should

  192. be forcing us

  193. to look at where

  194. the real blame

  195. lies.

  196. Much of the blame

  197. lies here in this

  198. room.

  199. Much of the blame

  200. lies behind the

  201. pointing fingers

  202. of the accusers

  203. themselves.

  204. God is what we

  205. need.

  206. He goes on to say,

  207. men and women

  208. are three-part

  209. beings.

  210. We all consist

  211. of body,

  212. soul,

  213. and spirit.

  214. When we refuse

  215. to acknowledge

  216. a third part

  217. of our makeup,

  218. we create a void

  219. that allows evil,

  220. prejudice,

  221. and hatred

  222. to rush in

  223. and wreak havoc.

  224. Spiritual influences

  225. were present

  226. within our

  227. educational systems

  228. for much of

  229. our nation's

  230. history.

  231. Many of our

  232. major colleges

  233. began as

  234. theological

  235. seminaries.

  236. This is a

  237. historic fact.

  238. What's happened

  239. to us as a

  240. nation?

  241. We have refused

  242. to honor God

  243. and in doing so,

  244. we opened up

  245. the doors to

  246. hatred and

  247. violence.

  248. And when

  249. something as

  250. terrible as

  251. Columbine's

  252. tragedy occurs,

  253. politicians

  254. immediately look

  255. for a scapegoat

  256. such as the

  257. NRA.

  258. They immediately

  259. seek to pass

  260. more restrictive

  261. laws that

  262. contribute to

  263. erode away

  264. our personal

  265. and private

  266. liberties.

  267. We don't need

  268. more restrictive

  269. laws.

  270. Eric and Dylan

  271. would not have

  272. been stopped

  273. by metal detectors.

  274. No amount

  275. of gun laws

  276. can stop someone

  277. who spends months

  278. planning this

  279. type of massacre.

  280. The real villain

  281. lies within our

  282. own hearts.

  283. Political

  284. posturing and

  285. restrictive

  286. legislation are

  287. not the answers.

  288. The young

  289. people of our

  290. nation hold

  291. the key.

  292. There's a

  293. spiritual

  294. awakening taking

  295. place that

  296. will not be

  297. quilched.

  298. He goes on

  299. to say,

  300. we need a

  301. change of heart

  302. and a humble

  303. acknowledgement that

  304. this nation was

  305. founded on the

  306. principles of

  307. simple trust in

  308. God.

  309. As my son

  310. Craig laid

  311. under that

  312. table in the

  313. school library

  314. and saw his

  315. two friends

  316. murdered before

  317. his very eyes,

  318. he did not

  319. hesitate to

  320. pray in

  321. schools.

  322. I defy any

  323. law or

  324. politician to

  325. deny him

  326. that right.

  327. I challenge

  328. every young

  329. person in

  330. America and

  331. around the

  332. world to

  333. realize that

  334. on April

  335. the 20th,

  336. 1999 at

  337. Columbine High

  338. School,

  339. prayer was

  340. brought back

  341. into schools.

  342. Do not let

  343. the many prayers

  344. offered by those

  345. students be in

  346. vain.

  347. Dare to move

  348. into a new

  349. millennium with

  350. a sacred

  351. disregard for

  352. legislation that

  353. violates your

  354. God.

  355. Give and write

  356. to communicate

  357. with him.

  358. To those of

  359. you who would

  360. point your

  361. finger at the

  362. NRA, I give

  363. to you a

  364. sincere challenge.

  365. Dare to examine

  366. your own

  367. heart before

  368. casting your

  369. first stone.

  370. My daughter's

  371. death will not

  372. be in vain.

  373. The young

  374. people of this

  375. country will

  376. not allow that

  377. to happen.

  378. End of quote.

  379. Our national

  380. crisis is not

  381. gun control.

  382. It's also not

  383. the president.

  384. And it's not

  385. the Senate.

  386. And it's not

  387. Congress.

  388. It's not the

  389. Supreme Court or

  390. any of the other

  391. courts.

  392. Now I realize

  393. that any talk

  394. of this can

  395. polarize this

  396. room in a

  397. heartbeat.

  398. I'm smarter

  399. than that.

  400. And that

  401. division becomes

  402. much worse when

  403. we put more,

  404. listen to me,

  405. when we put

  406. more stock in

  407. elected officials

  408. than we should.

  409. I don't hang

  410. my hat on

  411. Washington.

  412. I don't hang

  413. my hat on

  414. Columbia.

  415. I don't hang

  416. my hat on

  417. Pickens.

  418. I hang my

  419. trust on the

  420. Lord Jesus

  421. Christ.

  422. And he's

  423. the one I

  424. put my

  425. trust in.

  426. So with all

  427. that's wrong

  428. in Washington

  429. and Columbia

  430. or Pickens,

  431. our crisis is

  432. not politics.

  433. And it's not

  434. government.

  435. It's more

  436. than that.

  437. Our crisis is

  438. not television

  439. or the apps

  440. that you have

  441. on your phone,

  442. the streaming

  443. apps.

  444. If your phone

  445. or your

  446. television does

  447. not have a

  448. power button,

  449. I would

  450. encourage you

  451. to throw it

  452. out and get

  453. another one.

  454. Because the

  455. reality is you

  456. can cut it

  457. off anytime

  458. you want

  459. to.

  460. And the

  461. reason why

  462. there's the

  463. filth that

  464. there is

  465. on our

  466. televisions and

  467. on our

  468. phones is

  469. people aren't

  470. cutting it

  471. off.

  472. They just

  473. keep watching

  474. it.

  475. But our

  476. crisis is not

  477. television or

  478. movie apps.

  479. news.

  480. It's not

  481. even the

  482. internet.

  483. I remember

  484. hearing,

  485. oh boy,

  486. preaching on

  487. WGGS years

  488. ago about

  489. the internet.

  490. Oh God,

  491. blow it up.

  492. Blow it up,

  493. Lord.

  494. Blow up the

  495. internet.

  496. And I thought,

  497. brother, if he

  498. does, you won't

  499. be able to be

  500. watched anymore.

  501. Okay?

  502. So just chill

  503. out.

  504. The internet

  505. opens up new

  506. doors of

  507. opportunity and

  508. information and

  509. marketing,

  510. reservations and

  511. convenience like

  512. nothing that

  513. has ever

  514. come.

  515. But every

  516. one of us

  517. does not use

  518. it for that

  519. purpose.

  520. Sadly,

  521. there are

  522. traps there

  523. that are set

  524. by individuals

  525. and are set

  526. by corporations

  527. to snatch

  528. the minds

  529. of the

  530. computer

  531. loners

  532. that

  533. devastate

  534. lives

  535. every day.

  536. our national

  537. crisis is not

  538. social media,

  539. although I

  540. warn you it

  541. can easily be

  542. a cancer.

  543. Be careful

  544. there.

  545. The evil

  546. one looms

  547. there.

  548. Our national

  549. crisis is not

  550. sexual dysfunction,

  551. although we

  552. got a lot of

  553. it.

  554. It's the

  555. fruit of a

  556. greater problem,

  557. but it's not

  558. the root.

  559. there's been

  560. sexual indecency

  561. almost as long

  562. as there's been

  563. humanity,

  564. and there have

  565. been attempts

  566. to justify it

  567. ever since.

  568. Today,

  569. the fascination

  570. is with

  571. gender

  572. dysphoria.

  573. I don't know

  574. if the devil

  575. has ever

  576. schemed up

  577. a more

  578. diabolic plan

  579. in our

  580. society.

  581. The problem

  582. is that just

  583. because you

  584. feel a,

  585. I want you

  586. to hear me

  587. today,

  588. whoever you

  589. are,

  590. just because

  591. you feel

  592. like you

  593. feel a

  594. genuine

  595. attraction

  596. to someone,

  597. that does

  598. not make

  599. it right.

  600. It does

  601. not make

  602. it godly.

  603. It may

  604. feel legit,

  605. but our

  606. feelings and

  607. our attractions

  608. do not

  609. determine what

  610. is right

  611. or wrong.

  612. What you

  613. woke up and

  614. felt like

  615. doing today

  616. does not

  617. determine what

  618. is right

  619. and wrong.

  620. I'll tell

  621. you what

  622. determines

  623. what's right

  624. and wrong.

  625. The timeless

  626. truths of

  627. the word

  628. of God.

  629. And I

  630. truly believe

  631. that sometimes

  632. we need to

  633. blank our

  634. mind of

  635. any of our

  636. own preconceived

  637. ideas or

  638. self-generated

  639. ideas and

  640. trust God

  641. at his

  642. word.

  643. Same-sex

  644. attraction is

  645. five times

  646. more popular

  647. today than it

  648. was 40 years

  649. ago.

  650. If people

  651. are born in

  652. it, we

  653. need to stop

  654. drinking the

  655. water,

  656. apparently.

  657. You know

  658. what that

  659. is?

  660. That's not

  661. inborn.

  662. What in the

  663. world is going

  664. on?

  665. What's caused

  666. that?

  667. Several things,

  668. but I'll tell

  669. you what it

  670. is.

  671. It's a

  672. societal

  673. sinful

  674. sickness

  675. that's opened

  676. themselves up

  677. to allow those

  678. floodgates to

  679. come in.

  680. America has

  681. opened its

  682. arms to ways

  683. of life that

  684. are contrary

  685. to scripture,

  686. and that

  687. displeases the

  688. Lord.

  689. And it's a

  690. problem, but it

  691. is not our

  692. national crisis,

  693. as opposed to

  694. what many

  695. believe our

  696. national crisis

  697. is not the

  698. environment.

  699. And I didn't

  700. say we shouldn't

  701. take care of the

  702. land we live in.

  703. You better take

  704. care of your

  705. natural resources

  706. and be stewards

  707. of the garden

  708. that God's placed

  709. you in, because

  710. he told you to.

  711. It's one of the

  712. early basics of

  713. Genesis.

  714. But let's not

  715. fall into

  716. pantheism, the

  717. belief that all

  718. is God.

  719. I mean, I love

  720. animals, but they're

  721. different than we

  722. are, and they

  723. don't have a soul,

  724. and when they're

  725. gone, they're

  726. gone.

  727. God has not

  728. breathed his

  729. spirit into

  730. them, nor has

  731. he the big oaks

  732. in your yard, nor

  733. has he in the

  734. turnip, or the

  735. rainforest, or the

  736. spotted owl, or the

  737. red-eyed frog.

  738. We need to take

  739. care of all those

  740. things, folks, but

  741. don't let it

  742. overwhelm you.

  743. I'll tell you

  744. what he has

  745. breathed life

  746. into.

  747. Every child and

  748. every womb that's

  749. ever been conceived,

  750. and we ought to act

  751. like it as a

  752. country.

  753. Our national

  754. crisis is not

  755. that, however.

  756. It's also not the

  757. ice caps.

  758. It's not any of

  759. those things.

  760. It's deeper than

  761. that.

  762. Proverbs 14, 34

  763. says this,

  764. righteousness

  765. exalts a nation,

  766. but sin is a

  767. reproach to any

  768. people.

  769. The problem in

  770. America is America,

  771. our national crisis

  772. is too much of

  773. America is alienated

  774. from God.

  775. This nation is so

  776. marked by sin and

  777. missed opportunity

  778. that we've deceived

  779. ourselves into

  780. thinking that we

  781. only need God at

  782. certain times, and

  783. so many other

  784. things have grabbed

  785. our attention, and

  786. that is the

  787. crisis.

  788. It's a crisis

  789. outside the church

  790. that's devastating,

  791. but it's a crisis

  792. inside the church

  793. too.

  794. Distraction and

  795. waywardness weaken

  796. the church.

  797. Our national crisis

  798. is that we have

  799. put too many things

  800. before our personal

  801. allegiance to the

  802. Lord.

  803. We've put too many

  804. things before our

  805. faithful walk with

  806. Christ.

  807. Christians have too

  808. often lived, not as

  809. Christians, too

  810. often Christians don't

  811. look any different

  812. than society does,

  813. and society looks at

  814. Christians and say,

  815. why do I need that?

  816. The same things that

  817. dog a lost society are

  818. sometimes the same

  819. things that dog the

  820. church.

  821. I mean, honestly,

  822. we're reaping what

  823. we've sown, we're

  824. reaping what we're

  825. sowing.

  826. The broken and

  827. unchurched homes of

  828. America have simply

  829. given lip service to

  830. God and walked away,

  831. and now we reap the

  832. fruit of that.

  833. And that crisis may be

  834. bigger than you think.

  835. When I thought about

  836. this, I couldn't help

  837. but think about

  838. Ephesus.

  839. We're too much like

  840. Ephesus.

  841. Revelation 2, verse 4

    Revelation 2:4

  842. and 5 says this, but I

  843. have this against you,

  844. that you have abandoned

  845. the love that you had

  846. at first.

  847. Remember, therefore, from

  848. where you have fallen.

  849. Repent and do the works

  850. you did at first.

  851. If not, I will come to

  852. you and remove your

  853. lampstand from its place

  854. unless you repent.

  855. Now, let me explain.

  856. The lampstand is the

  857. pulpit.

  858. The lampstand is the

  859. witness of the church

  860. to the world.

  861. And what he's saying is

  862. we are destroying our

  863. witness.

  864. He also says, once salt

  865. has lost its saltiness,

  866. what good is it?

  867. It's good for nothing.

  868. And if we're not

  869. different than the world,

  870. Christian, we're making

  871. little difference in the

  872. world.

  873. And if all we do is come

  874. in here and shut the

  875. doors to the world and

  876. sing a song and hear a

  877. message and go home dead

  878. to God and dead to his

  879. will to change our lives

  880. in response to what he'd

  881. have for us, to change

  882. our world by the power of

  883. the Holy Spirit of God

  884. living in us, then we are

  885. sinners and we are

  886. disgraced to any people

  887. because we have

  888. responsibility.

  889. What America needs is the

  890. church of Jesus Christ to

  891. beg God for the fresh

  892. winds of his spirit, the

  893. fresh fires of revival.

  894. And revival don't start

  895. among lost people.

  896. Revival starts in the

  897. church.

  898. We need to repent of

  899. casual Christianity and

  900. fall into a burning love

  901. for Christ, his will, his

  902. way and his word and let it

  903. show everywhere that we go.

  904. Because the world without

  905. Christ is dead in sin.

  906. They honestly don't know what

  907. their opportunity in Christ

  908. really is.

  909. They don't know the

  910. difference that Christ makes

  911. unless we tell them.

  912. Unless we live it out before

  913. them.

  914. We'll never know.

  915. We may think, well, they'll

  916. hear it somewhere.

  917. I mean, people around here,

  918. there's churches on every

  919. corner.

  920. I mean, surely, surely

  921. everybody's heard about Jesus.

  922. Why in the world should we

  923. assume that?

  924. And have they all received a

  925. personal invitation to come to

  926. Christ?

  927. We need not assume that.

  928. And why can't we be a part of

  929. that?

  930. Don't you want to be a part of

  931. people's lives being changed for

  932. Christ?

  933. So God puts people in our path

  934. sometimes and we're so busy and

  935. in such a rush, we ignore the

  936. fact that he's put them in our

  937. path.

  938. We went to Cracker Barrel the

  939. other day.

  940. I got some grilled fish.

  941. How disappointing.

  942. It's the Great Depression.

  943. There's a closed down restaurant

  944. sitting right beside it there in

  945. Piedmont.

  946. I think I remember what it was.

  947. I like that kind of restaurant.

  948. But we were kind of trying to

  949. figure it out.

  950. So I thought, I wonder if they

  951. still got their menu up.

  952. Because they had painted it and

  953. tried to change it some, but you

  954. couldn't change it on anything.

  955. And we rode around that old

  956. Bojangles.

  957. Rode around to the other side.

  958. And right there in that small side

  959. entrance where there's a handrail

  960. there, there was a lady who had set

  961. up camp there.

  962. She had a buggy she'd barred from

  963. somewhere and filled it up.

  964. Had an umbrella covering her and it's

  965. about 100 degrees outside.

  966. I looked to see if somebody was there

  967. and I could see her and she saw me.

  968. I pulled out, took a chance on life to

  969. get out of that cracker barrel.

  970. If you've ever been there, you know

  971. what I'm talking about.

  972. It's hard to get out.

  973. And I got out and I started back

  974. toward Easley.

  975. And I did a U-turn and I came back.

  976. And I pulled back up beside her.

  977. And I said, are you hungry?

  978. You want something to eat?

  979. I said, there's a KFC and there's an

  980. Arby's right there across the street.

  981. What can I get you?

  982. She said, KFC.

  983. I said, you want some mashed potatoes

  984. that chicken?

  985. She said, slaw.

  986. I said, I'll do that.

  987. We went to Sam and we had oranges in

  988. the car.

  989. So we went by KFC and got a pretty

  990. good meal and it's KFC.

  991. But anyway, got a decent meal and got

  992. her a big old drink and threw some

  993. bottles of water in there and threw

  994. some oranges in there.

  995. Went back to take it to her.

  996. And she had left her little spot.

  997. We had actually seen this lady crossing

  998. the road going to a raceway, which is a

  999. gas station across the street.

1000. And we had seen her and always concerned

1001. about her crossing that road because

1002. it's very busy there as people come off

  1003. the interstate.

  1004. I realized that was a, I realized she'd

  1005. been here a while.

1006. When I got back, I gave her that, that,

1007. I reached out the window and gave her that

  1008. food.

  1009. She was leaving.

1010. She was headed that way is why I brought

  1011. that up.

1012. She was headed that way.

1013. And, and I brought that food to her.

1014. And I said, um, ma'am, my family was with

  1015. me.

1016. I said, ma'am, I just want you to know that

  1017. Jesus loves you.

1018. And, um, I hope this brings some relief to you.

1019. And she, she looked at me and she said, when

1020. somebody has more than a million, they have a

  1021. billion.

1022. And when somebody has more than a billion, they

  1023. have a trillion.

1024. And when somebody has more than a trillion, they

  1025. have something else.

  1026. I don't, I'm not familiar with that.

1027. I'll just say a quadrillion or something, something

  1028. like that.

1029. She knew she was on it.

1030. And she said, that's what God's going to bless

  1031. you with.

1032. And I said, well, thank God.

  1033. I mean, that's good.

  1034. I said, thank you, ma'am.

1035. I said, have you ever given your heart and life to

  1036. the Lord Jesus Christ?

  1037. She said, oh, yes.

  1038. Oh, yes.

1039. I love and trust my Savior.

1040. Now, the only reason I say that is if you happen to

1041. ride by that way, check on her.

1042. Grab her a biscuit or something.

1043. If God's planted her there.

1044. I just think sometimes, whether it be in an

1045. inconvenient situation like she's in right now in her

1046. life, or whether it be somebody we just see daily in

1047. places that we go and things that we do, I believe God puts

1048. people in our path along the way in order for us to share the

1049. love of Christ with her.

1050. And I wish I could tell you that I had some life-changing story

  1051. about her at all.

1052. She just popped up in my mind when I got to thinking about this.

1053. That God puts people in our path that we have the opportunity to

  1054. share with.

1055. And we need to do that.

1056. Because unless we tell them, and unless we live it before them, they'll

  1057. never know.

1058. Listen, down in the mouth, pessimism kills the work of the kingdom of God.

1059. Selfishness and only concern about us or ours kills the work of the kingdom of God.

1060. Holier than thou attitudes or just plain worldly hypocrisy kills the work of the kingdom of God.

1061. Preoccupation with our wants kills the work of the kingdom of God.

1062. Apathy and silence kills the work of the kingdom of God.

1063. We need Christians, as the song said earlier, to stand in the gap and say, there's a crisis.

1064. And bless God, there's an answer.

1065. And that answer is Christ.

1066. And we need to share Christ with the world in which God's placed us.

1067. Proverbs 14, 34 says, righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

1068. Let us not be the reproach to the people of America, but instead saints of a living God

1069. sharing his hope with the world he's planned us in.

1070. With every head bowed and every eye closed, I ask you today, have you ever given your heart

1071. and life to the Lord Jesus Christ?

1072. I didn't ask you if you remember this church.

1073. I didn't ask you if you was faithful at this church.

1074. I didn't ask you if you'd ever been to this church.

1075. I just ask you today, if you've ever said, Lord Jesus, I know I'm a sinner.

  1076. I know I've done wrong.

1077. I need you to forgive me, change me.

1078. I commit my life to follow you from this day forward.

1079. If you've never done that, I encourage you to do that.

1080. We got a lot of special things going on today with the meal and things, but there's nothing

1081. more special than you giving your heart and life to the Lord Jesus Christ.

1082. I encourage you to come.

1083. I'd love to share that with you.

1084. Maybe you're here this morning and you have done that, but you've never acknowledged that

1085. publicly and you need to do that.

1086. We're going to baptize in just a few weeks and I encourage you, if you've never been baptized

1087. as a believer, that you'll obey God and follow him.

1088. What he showed us to do and what he told us to do.

  1089. Let's follow that.

1090. Maybe God's drawing you to this church.

1091. God's leading you to Pickens First Baptist Church.

1092. God's blessing in a mighty way and I'm thankful for that.

1093. And if God's leading you to this church, I encourage you, soon as we stand this morning,

1094. you want to join this church.

1095. Soon as we stand, you come down the aisle.

1096. Now, share that with me.

1097. Or maybe there's just stuff in your life that's a reproach to a heavenly father that loves you.

1098. And today you need to confess that, repent of that, and walk away from the Christian.

1099. Live for the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1100. It'll change your life.

  1101. It'll change others' lives.

  1102. He works like that.

1103. Let's just follow the Lord today.

1104. Heavenly Father, I love you.

1105. I thank you, Lord, for the gospel and the opportunity you give us to share.

1106. And I pray, dear God, right now that you'll work and you'll move in the hearts and lives

1107. of every one of us to be obedient to follow you as you lead.

1108. In Jesus' precious name, amen.
