  1. Let's get started. Like I said, we're not going

  2. to get as far as I planned or as we need to this

  3. evening, but that's okay. If the Lord tarries,

  4. we've got plenty of time to talk about the spiritual

  5. warfare going on all around us, angels and demons

  6. and whatnot. And so just to kind of recap, what

  7. we're doing is we're saying that we want to get

  8. in the right mindset to be able to understand

  9. Revelation chapter 12. And so we are talking

    Revelation 12 chapter mention

  10. about the unseen realm. this reality that there

  11. exists in our world, an entire world that's just

  12. beyond our eyes, an entire world that we're often

  13. not aware of, that there's really this unseen

  14. realm all around us that consists of angels and

  15. demons and spiritual forces, and they are actually

  16. at work in our world today. And I was saying

  17. it's important for Christians to realize this

  18. because oftentimes we're just like the world.

  19. We're materialists. We only believe in what we

  20. see and not what we can't see. and that's to

  21. our detriment because it makes us ignorant to

  22. this ongoing war all around us. It makes us unaware

  23. of the spiritual darkness that exists all around

  24. us today, and last week we kind of did the what

  25. I like to call the 30 ,000 foot overview of angels.

  26. We certainly didn't exhaust that topic, and we

  27. can dive in more to that at another time, but

  28. But this evening I wanted to start touching on

  29. Satan and demons and kind of doing another 30

  30. ,000 foot overview of Satan and demons and then

  31. the plan for next week is to get more personal

  32. with demons and talk about demon possession and

  33. demon oppression and what that looks like in

  34. our world today because it still exists. But

  35. when you look at the Bible, the Bible is going

  36. to tell us in Revelation chapter 12 as well as

    Revelation 12 chapter mention

  37. other places that Satan was an angel and he led

  38. an army of angels in rebellion against God. And

  39. then God and Michael the archangel and all the

  40. other angels who didn't rebel, they fought against

  41. this rebellious angelic army and they defeated

  42. them and Satan and his angels were cast down

  43. to earth. So you're wondering where Satan is

  44. today, and you're wondering where demons are

  45. today, it's here. They're in our world. I think

  46. we maybe kind of think there's just a few demons,

  47. but there's a lot. There are a whole lot of demons

  48. in our world today. We read about this also in

  49. Jude chapter 1 verse 6. The Bible says, and the

    Jude 1:6

  50. angels who did not stay within their own position

  51. of authority, but left their proper dwelling,

  52. he is kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness

  53. until the judgment of the great day. Now we look

  54. at that and it's another example of how angels

  55. who rebelled were cast down and fallen angels

  56. are just called demons, right? They're synonymous.

  57. They were angels, they're fallen now, and now

  58. they're demons. And here's what we know, not

  59. all angels are the same, right? There are different

  60. classifications of angels. You know, people will

  61. add more or less depending on their view. We

  62. know archangel, cherubim, seraphim, angels, principalities,

  63. rulers, thrones, dominions, regular angels, whatever

  64. that looks like. But there's all sorts of names

  65. and classifications for angels in the Bible,

  66. which raises a pretty good question. If Satan

  67. was an angel, what kind of angel was he? Anybody

  68. know? Possibly. Yeah, so the Bible doesn't ever

  69. explicitly say Satan was this type of angel There

  70. is a passage in Ezekiel 28 that many believe

  71. is about Satan that There's debate whether or

  72. not it's actually about Satan but needless to

  73. say there is a passage in Ezekiel 28 that many

  74. believe is about Satan and it says he was a cherub

  75. so he's possibly a cherub although his name is

  76. never explicitly mentioned in that chapter and

  77. so you would have to draw inferences and things

  78. like that but there's another possibility and

  79. it's possible if he wasn't a cherub it's possible

  80. that he was a seraphim potentially some people

  81. say he was an archangel but the bible only ever

  82. mentions one archangel michael Many will say

  83. that Gabriel is an archangel as well. The Bible

  84. never explicitly says that, but they'll say he's

  85. the only other angel who has a name given to

  86. him in scripture, therefore he must be an archangel

  87. like Michael. But the Bible only ever explicitly

  88. says Michael is an archangel, archangel. But

  89. the seraphim, here's what's interesting about

  90. them. Anybody know what a seraphim looks like?

  91. Okay, so in Hebrew seraphim the the word seraphim

  92. it just means the fiery ones and this is the

  93. description we get of them in Isaiah chapter

    Isaiah 6:2

  94. 6 verse 2 Above him being God stood the seraphim

  95. each had six wings with two He covered his face

  96. and with two he covered his feet and with two

  97. He flew and the word seraphim not only means

  98. fiery ones, but it's connected to the word serpent

  99. snake and so when you're reading this in Hebrew

  100. it reads the fiery snakes and so you read about

  101. this description in in the Bible of what these

  102. angels look like and they are described as a

  103. serpentine creature that has wings and they are

  104. fiery in the sense that at least their bite is

  105. fiery and potentially have fire coming out of

  106. their mouth. That's how they're described. Now

  107. this brings up another interesting passage because

  108. the word seraphim is not often used in scripture.

  109. It's very rarely used and it's only ever used

  110. of angelic beings in heaven. But there is another

  111. passage in scripture where the word is used but

  112. our English translations decided to translate

  113. it differently. You might remember this story

  114. of the Israelites wandering in the wilderness.

  115. and they're complaining about God and you brought

  116. us out here to die what did we do to deserve

  117. this we wish we could go back to Egypt we had

  118. it so much blah blah blah blah right so what

  119. does God do he sends some serpents who bite them

  120. and their bite is said to burn right and the

  121. Bible says in Numbers 21 6 then the Lord sent

  122. fiery serpents among the people and they bit

  123. the people so that many people of Israel died

  124. Now, here's what's interesting. You can see from

  125. the screen the English translations, and let

  126. me know if yours says something different, but

  127. almost all English translations say, then the

  128. Lord sent fiery serpents among the people. I

  129. don't know why they did that though, because

  130. it's the exact Hebrew word, seraphim. In Isaiah

  131. 6, they just translate it or transliterate it,

  132. they just put it into English, seraphim. It's

  133. right here and it's the only time in scripture

  134. where it's used of what would lead us to believe

  135. not angelic beings. However, if you just read

  136. this in Hebrew, you believe there's no difference.

  137. And I don't believe there is. So when we picture

  138. this scene, here's what's really cool, right?

  139. When we picture this scene from how we've heard

  140. it all our lives, we like to imagine a bunch

  141. of snakes slithering around on the ground, which

  142. is horrifying. I will grant you that. That is

  143. horrifying. I would not want to be there. I'd

  144. be calling Gene McKinney so quickly, Pop, come

  145. get these snakes. But we like to imagine them

  146. slithering on the ground and then they bite people

  147. and the bite just kind of burned, right? But

  148. what if it was even more terrifying than that?

  149. Because the Bible literally says, then the Lord

  150. sent the seraphim. I think it makes more sense,

  151. especially when you're reading this in Hebrew,

  152. to see that God sent forth angels from heaven

  153. to come and discipline the Israelites. And those

  154. angels from heaven just happened to look like

  155. serpentine creatures that had wings and could

  156. either breathe fire or had a fiery bite. That's

  157. much more terrifying, is it not? than a bunch

  158. of snakes slithering around on the ground. They

  159. look like dragons, right? Can y 'all see that?

  160. How would you describe a dragon? A dragon looks

  161. like a serpentine creature that has wings and

  162. can breathe fire and potentially has legs like

  163. the seraphim because they stood before God. That

  164. is a hornet. Y 'all just ignore it. It'll probably

  165. not sting you. This is my sermon illustration.

  166. So it's a winged creature and it will burn. So

  167. anyways, no, so the the seraphim they kind of

  168. look like what we think of as dragons a serpentine

  169. type creature with wings that either breeds fire

  170. or has a fiery bite which is interesting because

  171. You know, I was talking with Joseph about this

  172. and and you know, you could say people might

  173. think we're crazy but I Personally believe that

  174. the dragons that we have heard about throughout

  175. history are not really mythological creatures

  176. at all I actually do believe that they are probably

  177. fallen seraphim that are terrorizing the earth

  178. much like they did the Israelites here except

  179. these are the good seraphim not the fallen ones

  180. and one interesting point on that is to note

  181. that almost every civilization at least many

  182. many civilizations throughout history have dragon

  183. stories and you're like okay well everybody does

  184. but but here's the thing they didn't have contact

  185. with each other so Let's put it another way.

  186. Almost no culture has vampire stories, right?

  187. That is pretty much Transylvania. Everybody on

  188. board, right? So if you think of vampires, what

  189. do you think? You think Transylvania, Dracula,

  190. right? That's unique to their culture. That didn't

  191. originate in every other culture. Not every culture

  192. has a Loch Ness monster, right? That's unique

  193. to Scotland. But almost every culture has dragon

  194. stories throughout their history. with no contact

  195. with one another to spread something like a dragon

  196. mythology. And so it seems more likely that these

  197. people had an actual encounter with something

  198. that they didn't really know how to describe

  199. other than it was a serpentine type creature

  200. that had wings and breathed fire and was terrorizing

  201. people. That sounds like a fallen angel to me.

  202. That sounds like a seraphim a demon who is rebelled

  203. against God So I just want you to see that that

  204. is possible And I've got to move on now because

  205. Anna's gonna get on to me for even mentioning

  206. dragons tonight But I told her I was gonna do

  207. it anyways, so Back to Satan. Okay. I want you

  208. to think about this. Here's what's interesting

  209. is throughout the Bible What is the most common

  210. phrase used for Satan or common word used to

  211. describe Satan apart from the name Satan? The

  212. dragon or another one? No, not that one. Never

  213. that one. The serpent. Yeah. So this is interesting,

  214. right? He is, throughout scripture, referred

  215. to as the serpent. And the Bible makes it abundantly

  216. clear that the serpent, that Satan was the serpent

  217. in the garden. right you know this so revelation

    Revelation 12:9

  218. chapter 12 verse 9 it says and the great dragon

  219. so look the bible says there were dragons i'm

  220. not crazy y 'all think i'm crazy the bible says

  221. it so the great dragon was thrown down that ancient

  222. serpent who was called the devil and satan the

  223. deceiver of the whole world he was thrown down

  224. to the earth and his angels were thrown down

  225. with him so here you have a description of satan

  226. and he is referred to as a dragon and a serpent

  227. and we know that he was an angel at one point

  228. and the only angelic being that is described

  229. as either a dragon or a serpent is a seraphim

  230. but we go on 2nd Corinthians chapter 11 verse

  231. 3 Paul says but I'm afraid that as the serpent

  232. deceived Eve by his cunning your thoughts will

  233. be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion

  234. to Christ so there again he's referred to as

  235. the serpent and then 2nd Corinthians 11 14 and

  236. no wonder for even Satan disguises himself as

  237. an angel. light and so you have this idea that

  238. fallen angels we like to picture the devil with

  239. horns and he's red and he has that you know forked

  240. tail and whatever and demons are these nasty

  241. ugly creatures but the Bible says most of the

  242. time they're disguising themselves as angels

  243. of light as something that's beautiful and appealing

  244. because they will set themselves up as a counterfeit

  245. to Christ so that they can get worship for themselves

  246. So here's what you do. Think about the Genesis

  247. story, Genesis chapter 3. We're in the garden

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  248. of Eden and then you see that there's this serpent

  249. that comes on scene. And what's interesting is

  250. the Bible says now the serpent was more crafty

  251. or shrewd than any other creature of the field

  252. that the Lord God created, right? Why does it

  253. say the serpent? Why not a serpent? It's a specific

  254. one. That's right. That's what the definite article

  255. is there for. It's a specific serpent, one that

  256. was known, and then here's the other thing about

  257. this story. The serpent can talk. How many other

  258. of God's creatures have the ability to speak?

  259. None that we read about I mean parrots can kind

  260. of mimic you today, but but in the the narrative

  261. of scripture There are no speaking animals and

  262. yet here's one and so from the very get -go when

  263. you're reading this story It becomes clear that

  264. this serpent is is more than a serpent, right?

  265. It's not your ordinary snake that God just created

  266. all these snakes And here's one that had the

  267. ability to talk and maybe all the other ones

  268. did as well This one is unique and it's saying

  269. the serpent because it's a particular one. It

  270. has the ability to talk so it's not just just

  271. a regular snake. And then here's what gets me

  272. about this account, right? Is that people, atheists,

  273. have you noticed that they use this account to

  274. mock Christians all the time? there's a famous

  275. comedian Ricky Gervais who actually has a whole

  276. stand -up bit about this where he's mocking the

  277. Bible and he says you know when he gets to the

  278. part where God's dishing out punishment the snakes

  279. like oh what's my punishment God and God says

  280. well you're gonna slither around on your belly

  281. for the rest of your days and the snakes like

  282. oh no okay well if you insist it's like how's

  283. that a punishment if snakes were always like

  284. slithering on the ground how is it a punishment

  285. for him to have to slither on the ground for

  286. it seems like it's not a punishment right you

  287. get what i'm saying here and so i've had people

  288. mock me atheists where they're like how can you

  289. believe this thing you have a talking snake and

  290. its punishment is to continue doing what it's

  291. always done but this account makes a lot more

  292. sense if satan here is a seraphim Seraphim have

  293. the ability to talk, as we saw from Isaiah 6.

  294. They go around the throne of God saying, holy,

  295. holy, holy. So they have the ability to talk.

  296. They're serpentine creatures with wings that

  297. can either breathe fire or have a fiery bite.

  298. Let me ask you something. If you are a creature

  299. of the air, what's the worst thing that can happen

  300. to you? To be brought low, right? To slither

  301. around on your belly. If you're used to soaring

  302. the heavens, the worst and most humiliating thing

  303. that can possibly happen to you is to be forced

  304. down to the ground forever. And so it makes a

  305. lot of sense if in the Genesis account, the reason

  306. this is a punishment is because God clipped his

  307. wings there. He was taken from the sky and not

  308. able to fly around like the rest of the Seraphim

  309. anymore. He would be forced to slither around

  310. on his belly for the rest of his days if you

  311. still don't believe me on this or you're not

  312. convinced that's okay but let me remind you of

  313. another phrase that's used of satan in the bible

  314. in ephesians chapter 2 it says that he is the

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  315. prince of the power of the air the air the prince

  316. of the power of the air He was in the air, had

  317. a whole host of angelic beings who accompanied

  318. him in his rebellion, and ultimately God defeated

  319. them and cast them down to the earth. And so

  320. we go on though, and you see that Satan, although

  321. he is on the ground, he's slithering around as

  322. a seraphim who's had his wings clipped, he does

  323. still have the ability to possess people. We

  324. read about this in Luke 22 in verse 3. The Bible

  325. says, then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot,

  326. or called Iscariot, who was of the number of

  327. the twelve. And so that's terrifying. We don't

  328. read often that Satan is possessing people, but

  329. he intentionally, out of all people on earth,

  330. chose Judas to possess. And so here's the thing

  331. about this today, is that Satan doesn't have

  332. to look like a seraphim that's had his wings

  333. clipped today. He could look like anyone in this

  334. room. He could possess anyone he wants at any

  335. time. He's not omnipresent, so he'd have to go

  336. to them, but we can rest assured that he's most

  337. likely possessing someone today seeking to lead

  338. people astray and away from Christ. We see that

  339. Paul tells us that demons often disguise themselves

  340. as angels of light. And like I said earlier,

  341. one of the reasons they do this is because they

  342. want to get worship for themselves. They want

  343. to present themselves as God. They want to be

  344. a counterfeit to the original. And we're going

  345. to see that all throughout the book of Revelation.

  346. Satan and the beast, they constantly set themselves

  347. up as a counterfeit to Christ and even try to

  348. do the same miracles as Christ so that people

  349. will come and believe that they are Christ. They

  350. want to lead people astray. And so here's what

  351. I want to propose to you as well as we're thinking

  352. about demons on earth today is that many of the

  353. false gods and idols of all these other religions,

  354. they don't necessarily have to be false in the

  355. way that we think about them. So for instance,

  356. think about ancient Egypt and all the gods they

  357. had. Think about ancient Rome and all the gods

  358. they had. Rather than thinking that all of their

  359. gods were imaginary gods, it's possible that

  360. the gods they worshiped were fallen angels who

  361. had set themselves up as an angel of light and

  362. seek to lead people astray and get worship for

  363. themselves. And I actually think that there is

  364. some biblical warrant to this. And you actually

  365. get this in the book of Exodus, right? So think

  366. back to the book of Exodus. At the beginning

  367. of the book, we're about to start the 10 plagues.

  368. Anybody remember what the first plague was? Gene

  369. McKinney. We are going to get to that, but the

  370. first plague upon Egypt was turning the Nile

  371. into blood. Now here's what's interesting, right?

  372. The Egyptians believed in a river god, a god

  373. that was over specifically the Nile River. The

  374. god was called Hopi, and this god symbolized

  375. life and fertility because when they believed

  376. that Hopi visited them once a year, and when

  377. Hopi came to Egypt, and specifically to the Nile,

  378. it would flood. And when it would flood, that

  379. would be great for everybody. Fertile soil, the

  380. crops would grow, everybody blessed, so he became

  381. the god of fertility and life. And then the plague

  382. happens and the water turns to blood. Now we

  383. look at that and we go, oh, it's just a symbolic

  384. or metaphorical picture. But if you have to imagine,

  385. if you're an ancient Egyptian, you believe that

  386. there is this actual being that many people claim

  387. to have seen who is God over this river and they

  388. know that this God is over this river and then

  389. they see that river filled with blood. Do you

  390. know what that would have meant to them? That

  391. someone had just killed their God and its blood

  392. was filling the Nile. See each one of the plagues

  393. of Egypt is actually a judgment against one of

  394. the gods of Egypt. It's God's judgment upon Egypt

  395. as a whole, but each specific plague relates

  396. to one of the gods of Egypt. And so when God

  397. slaughtered this false god, the Nile turns to

  398. blood. The one that they associated with the

  399. god of the river, the Lord slaughters that god

  400. and the Nile fills with blood. Then there's the

  401. second plague. And I know what you're thinking

  402. at this point. You're like, well, no, it's just

  403. a symbolic metaphorical picture. There's no substance

  404. here whatsoever. You're kind of reading too far

  405. in the text. I would think that too. Trust me,

  406. I told you, I'm a skeptic. I'm not like one of

  407. these people who believes everything, despite

  408. what my wife would think if she's listening,

  409. but I'm not one of those people. And I would

  410. be right there with you if it wasn't for the

  411. second and third plague. Because something really

  412. interesting happens. Anybody, you get kudos from

  413. me, theologian of the night, if you can remember

  414. the second plague. Anybody know what it was?

  415. Eat it each. Okay. I Was gonna make a joke. I

  416. was gonna say it's hopping right on the tip of

  417. your tongue. But yeah It's just hopping ready

  418. to get out All right. So so the second plague

  419. is you God sent all these frogs And they invaded

  420. all the homes of the Egyptians right and the

  421. Bible specifically says that these frogs go into

  422. the homes and Into the beds of the people and

  423. it makes this big deal about the beds and where

  424. they sleep and things like that alright, so there's

  425. this God in in Egypt and This God I wrote down

  426. its name somewhere Hec tight or something like

  427. that and This God was depicted as a frog it had

  428. like a frog's head and it was the god specifically

  429. of fertility so again what would happen is the

  430. Nile would flood and when the Nile flooded all

  431. the frogs came to shore and so there was an abundance

  432. of frogs and people would see the frogs and they

  433. would know that oh things are about to be fertile

  434. around here and so the frog god became the god

  435. of fertility right and here's what's interesting

  436. about the the plague stories it's that as the

  437. the story of Exodus is going on Pharaoh had these

  438. magicians and they were able to do everything

  439. Moses did, right? Gene just mentioned one. So

  440. Aaron throws his staff on the ground. It turns

  441. into a snake. A lot of significance there, by

  442. the way. And then the Bible says that Pharaoh

  443. had his magicians and they were able to do the

  444. exact same thing. So it basically made Moses

  445. seem not that impressive, Aaron not that impressive.

  446. And then the Lord turns the waters of the Nile

  447. to blood. And guess what happened? Fear as magicians.

  448. It says the Bible repeatedly keeps saying they

  449. did their secret arts and they were able to do

  450. the same thing so they turned water to blood

  451. and then the frogs happened and The Lord sent

  452. these frogs invade the homes and the Bible says

  453. the magicians practiced their secret arts again

  454. And they were able to conjure up frogs and the

  455. frogs came upon Egypt I don't know why they'd

  456. want to make their problem worse, but they did

  457. it to just prove like oh It's not that special

  458. we can do it, too, right? So everybody at this

  459. point is like, okay, well here's what happens.

  460. This is where it gets really interesting. The

  461. Bible never says that they were like the magicians

  462. we have today. The magicians we have today are

  463. illusionists, right? Like they make a pen disappear,

  464. but it doesn't really disappear. It's a sleight

  465. of hand. The Bible specifically says that these

  466. magicians practiced secret arts and were able

  467. to do what Moses did. Okay, are we tracking?

  468. Like there was some occultist, real dark art

  469. stuff going on here. So then here's what happens

  470. they complain to the Lord and the Lord agrees

  471. to to kill all the frogs and then make it to

  472. where only frogs are in the Nile again and so

  473. all the frogs die in their beds which is hilarious

  474. because he was supposedly the god of fertility

  475. and where did he they die they died in the beds

  476. and in the homes where people will you get the

  477. point so um so there's there's irony there And

  478. so they compile all these frogs, and they put

  479. them on the shore, they stack them in this big

  480. pile, and the Bible says that all of Egypt stank

  481. because there were dead frogs. God has just killed

  482. the frog god. So the frog god was not just the

  483. frog of fertility. Another interesting point

  484. that I left out is that he was the god of witchcraft.

  485. And actually his name, like Hectate or something

  486. like that, was given later to a Greek god who

  487. was over witchcraft as well. So it was the god

  488. of witchcraft, sorcery, magicians. and so all

  489. of Egypt stank because the frog god has metaphorically

  490. symbolically been killed and then you get the

  491. third plague and this is why it gets really interesting

  492. the third plague comes it's the plague of gnats

  493. and the bible says the lord sent gnats just as

  494. he sent frogs and then we have this on screen

  495. this is what the bible says in exodus 8 18 through

  496. 19 The magicians tried by their secret arts to

  497. produce gnats, but they could not. So there were

  498. gnats on man and beast. Then the magician said

  499. to Pharaoh, this is the finger of God. But Pharaoh's

  500. heart was hardened and he would not listen to

  501. them as the Lord had said. It's at this point,

  502. here's what's really interesting, okay? If they

  503. were just faking it, they could fake gnats, that's

  504. not that hard, okay? And if it was all a show,

  505. they could put on a show, they want to please

  506. Pharaoh. This proves that what they were doing

  507. was not an illusion, it was not an act, they

  508. were actually practicing dark arts, you know,

  509. spiritual, dark demonized things, dark practices,

  510. but after the god of witchcraft is symbolically

  511. murdered, they no longer have the ability. to

  512. do any magic. We have to reckon with that somehow,

  513. and in my own view, I believe that there was

  514. actually some sort of demonic force at work in

  515. Egypt, and because they were connected to this

  516. demonic force, they had the ability by secret

  517. arts, dark magic, to produce some sort of what

  518. looked like real magic in the world today, but

  519. i believe that that demon was actually put to

  520. death because their connection to the demonic

  521. the dark arts is severed and they are no longer

  522. after the frogs die i mean again this is in the

  523. bible you just have to reckon with this there's

  524. a lot of verses that are going to trip us up

  525. like the one last week with their angels in heaven

  526. that tripped us up this week this is the one

  527. that got me this week after the frogs died the

  528. magicians are never able to do magic again now

  529. make of that what you will but I just want to

  530. say to you, I think there's something more going

  531. on there. I think there's a power at work there,

  532. and we know that there was all sorts of demonic

  533. activity in Egypt because Egypt, they had many

  534. gods, but the main god of Egypt, this was a god

  535. named Wadjet. I don't know if I'm pronouncing

  536. that right. I don't speak Egyptian. It's kind

  537. of a dead language to me. So the god was named

  538. Wadjet and it was the main god of Egypt. It was

  539. said to be the protector and the patron of all

  540. of Egypt. Anybody want to guess what Wadjet looked

  541. like? No. The god Wadjet looked like a snake

  542. with wings. That's how it's depicted, as a snake

  543. with wings. In fact, all the Egyptian kings and

  544. pharaohs and whatnot, they had a royal diadem

  545. and on the middle, there was the serpent. And

  546. so you look at what's going on in Egypt and how

  547. they are oppressing the people of God, keeping

  548. them in bondage and enslaved, how they hate the

  549. people of God. You see them practicing dark arts

  550. and magic and things like that. And it's very

  551. clear when you see the symbol of the snake and

  552. it's a snake with wings, there's something more

  553. at play here. There's the influence of the demonic

  554. here. and it's really getting at this idea that

  555. we kind of mentioned some last week as well.

  556. Remember we said that demons, according to Daniel

    Daniel 10 chapter mention

  557. chapter 10, that demons have the ability to have

  558. some level of authority in kingdoms. You all

  559. remember that? That a demon had set up shop in

  560. Persia and that Michael and this other angel

  561. were warring against it. So we said demons can

  562. be regional. We're going to talk about next week

  563. demons can be personal, they can possess you,

  564. but demons can be regional. They were regional

  565. in Persia, regional in Egypt here. You also see

  566. other examples in scripture. Anybody ever heard

  567. of the witch of Endor? Yeah, this was a person

  568. who practiced witchcraft and necromancy which

  569. all throughout the Bible are connected with demonic

  570. activity and This which this person connected

  571. to the demonic had set up shop in indoor and

  572. had become known to be part of that region So

  573. there was a demonic influence that exerted control

  574. over an entire region You might say well pastor.

  575. You're crazy. You're in too much into it Matthew

  576. 8 28 When Jesus came to the other side, to the

  577. country of the Gadarenes, two demon -possessed

  578. men met him coming out of the tombs so fierce

  579. that no one could pass that way. And so here

  580. are two demon -possessed men, and the Bible says

  581. that these demons had such control in the region

  582. that no one passed that way. They had to take

  583. alternate routes to get wherever they were going

  584. because no one was going to pass by that particular

  585. region because the demonic influence was so great

  586. there. And I think you can still see this in

  587. our world today. I don't think it's a stretch

  588. to say that demons can set up shop in a particular

  589. region and exert a level of control in that region

  590. like the Witch of Andor or the people here in

  591. the demon possessed people in the gatherings.

  592. I mean, there are just some places you go and

  593. they give you the creeps, right? We just get

  594. that feeling and it's universal. Like even the

  595. bravest person will walk in some place and they

  596. just get the creeps. Something doesn't feel right

  597. there. And you can see places in our world today

  598. where I think there is a high level of demonic

  599. influence and activity. And I mentioned one last

  600. week. I mentioned this place in Japan that's

  601. known as the suicide forest. And so in Mount

  602. Fuji, right at the edge of Mount Fuji, there's

  603. this forest. And pretty much over a hundred people

  604. every single year go there to commit suicide.

  605. And what's amazing is they've had to set up like

  606. signs and everything encouraging people to remember

  607. their loved ones, to call a suicide hotline.

  608. And people report there that when they go there,

  609. the forest is so thick that light barely gets

  610. in. And you walk in and they say it just feels

  611. heavy. It feels eerie and they start going in

  612. and people have reported feeling an overwhelming

  613. sense of dread. They've reported feeling incredibly

  614. uneasy. There are people who reported feeling

  615. overwhelmingly sad. And then worst of all, there

  616. were people who reported that once they were

  617. walking on the path, the further they went into

  618. the forest, the more they had a sense that something

  619. was drawing them to leave the path and go off

  620. the beaten path further into the forest. And

  621. when they did, they felt like they should take

  622. their own life. And this is a place where, like

  623. I said, over a hundred people every single year

  624. go there to take their own lives. And many people

  625. of the families have said that they don't think

  626. that the person who took their own life had any

  627. desire to do that. But there was just this overwhelming

  628. presence there that something was not right.

  629. And I think it's another example of demonic influence

  630. in our world, that there's some sort of demonic

  631. influence in this region that is seeking to do

  632. what demons always do. to hurt the people of

  633. God and what better way to do that than to kill

  634. those and coerce someone into killing themselves

  635. who's made in the image of God. Demons hate God

  636. and since we are made in the image of God, they

  637. hate us. They see God's love for us and they

  638. want us dead. They want us to despise God and

  639. so all of this to say like we could go more in

  640. depth and like I said next week we're really

  641. going to get into demon possession and demon

  642. oppression and what does it look like for someone

  643. to be demon possessed today? But I just want

  644. to put this before you to show you that there

  645. is a real spiritual darkness in our world today.

  646. This is not some fantasy that Alex has created.

  647. This is something that is real. There are demonic

  648. forces in our world and they can set themselves

  649. up in governments. They can set themselves up

  650. in kingdoms. They can set themselves up in regions.

  651. There are real demons out there who can appear

  652. as an angel of light, who can deceive you, who

  653. can try to lead you astray, and who actually

  654. have supernatural powers and the ability to do

  655. things with that, which I mean, we could get

  656. into this too, but occult practices and practicing

  657. dark arts and things like that, I mean, that's

  658. always connected to the demonic. If you really

  659. want to investigate this further, and I would

  660. encourage you to do so, Go home, you go on a

  661. three -hour trail about this, look up the use

  662. of psychedelic drugs in connection with spiritual

  663. realities and demonic forces. And there have

  664. been extensive studies on this where people who

  665. take like acid or acid -related drugs, things

  666. that alter the cognition of the brain, that almost

  667. all of them enter what they would call some sort

  668. of spiritual reality. and many of them see a

  669. serpent and sometimes that serpent has wings

  670. and they have this feeling of dread and like

  671. they're in some other plane of dimension and

  672. so it's really interesting to see the use of

  673. drugs in connection with the spiritual realities

  674. that often go unseen in our world today and so

  675. there's a lot there. There's more than we have

  676. time to say but all of this should make us thankful.

  677. that we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God.

  678. And I'm going to mention this Sunday because

  679. we're talking about a demon passage on Sunday

  680. too. I didn't plan it that way. That's just where

  681. we're at in Matthew. But basically the Bible

  682. says that because we are indwelt by the Spirit

  683. of God, we cannot be possessed by demons. That's

  684. good to know. Is it not? You look at what demons

  685. do to people. We'll get in that next week. It's

  686. good to know that because the Holy Spirit has

  687. made His dwelling in us, there's no room for

  688. a demon. We don't have to worry about that. And

  689. because we have the Holy Spirit, He guides us,

  690. He protects us, He comforts us, and all of that

  691. comes through faith in Christ. So you see all

  692. this darkness and the things we're talking about,

  693. it should just make you that much more thankful

  694. for Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit. All

  695. right, Michael, how about a word of wisdom?
