  1. Mark chapter 6, which I believe is one of the most amazing chapters in all the Gospels.

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  2. ! Especially in relation to the Galilee and ministry of Christ, Galilee is a small region.

  3. It's only about 50 miles north to south and about 30 miles east to west, but it is an impactful area in the Gospels.

  4. There's probably about 200 small towns and villages scattered throughout that area,

  5. but the surrounding areas, those are tight and densely populated,

  6. but the surrounding areas are farms and pastures.

  7. At the time of Mark chapter 6, Jesus had been ministering there about a year,

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  8. and He would not be there much longer.

  9. He would soon move on to Tyre and Sidon,

  10. and Sidon and Tyre are on the Mediterranean coast up north of Galilee,

  11. unmarked on this map, possibly even beyond the map a little bit,

  12. north on the Mediterranean.

  13. It was the land of the Gentiles.

  14. And after spending some time there, He would come back through Galilee,

  15. enter into the Decapolis area region,

  16. and then in chapter 10 of Mark, He heads toward Judea,

  17. before His decisive move toward the cross in Jerusalem.

  18. So that's the setting of Mark chapter 6.

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  19. Now, there's three reasons why I believe this is possibly the most amazing chapter in all the Gospels.

  20. One of them is Jesus was ineffective in His own town.

  21. That amazes me that some were changed, but few were changed because they did not believe.

  22. That's pretty amazing to me.

  23. The second thing that amazes me about this chapter is the great movement that took place

  24. when He sent out the 12 apostles two by two.

  25. powerful things happened throughout the Galilean region.

  26. He sent His apostles to preach and to minister, and that's what they did.

  27. He gave them authority to do it,

  28. and with that authority, they preached repentance.

  29. They preached the kingdom.

  30. They healed the sick.

  31. They cast out demons.

  32. They had a major impact in that area.

  33. And by the way, 11 of them were from that area,

  34. which again is pretty amazing to me that those 11 apostles had a powerful, effective ministry in the area in which they were raised,

  35. but yet Jesus was ineffective in the very town that He was raised in.

  36. But that passage tells us that it was an exhaustive measure.

  37. The Gospels tell us that.

  38. Not only that, not only was their ministry effort exhausted, but it was exhausting

  39. to the point that Jesus knew they needed time away.

  40. But our passage today tells us they didn't get the rest they needed.

  41. Not that night.

  42. And the third reason why this chapter is amazing to me is the miracle that takes place.

  43. Now, if you've been to Sunday school, what we used to call it,

  44. and you've been to church long enough,

  45. you probably know the story of the feeding of the 5,000.

  46. And my prayer has been that familiarity would not take away from you learning possibly new truth from this story.

  47. Don't get to the end before we get there, please,

  48. because I'm firmly convinced that God has some things to show us today in a pretty familiar story.

  49. But I'm telling you, I hope that that familiarity don't steal the truth of it because it is amazing.

  50. Listen, there are only two miracles in the Gospels that are mentioned in all four Gospels.

  51. One of them is this miracle.

  52. The other is the resurrection of Christ.

  53. So this stands out.

  54. This is a big one.

  55. And it was so impactful that after this, they tried to force Jesus to become king.

  56. They wanted him to take over.

  57. Not only can he provide for us, not only is he the master teacher,

  58. not only does he relate to where we are, let's take on Rome.

  59. He's our king.

  60. Let's force him to be king.

  61. That's the setting for Mark 6, beginning in verse 30.

  62. And it says this,

  63. The apostles returned to Jesus and told them all that they had done and taught.

  64. That's when he sent them out.

  65. And he said to them,

  66. Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.

  67. For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.

  68. And they went away in a boat to a desolate place by themselves.

  69. Now many saw them going and recognized them.

  70. And they ran there on foot from all towns and got there ahead of them.

  71. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd.

  72. And he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd.

  73. And he began to teach them many things.

  74. And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said,

  75. This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late.

  76. Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages

  77. and buy them something to eat.

  78. But he answered them,

  79. You give them something to eat.

  80. And they said to him,

  81. Shall we go and buy 200 denarii worth of bread

  82. and give it to them to eat?

  83. And he said,

  84. How many loaves do you have?

  85. Go and see.

  86. And when they had found it,

  87. they said,

  88. Five and two fish.

  89. Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass.

  90. So they sat down in groups by hundreds and by fifties.

  91. And taking the five loaves and the two fish,

  92. he looked up to heaven and set a blessing and broke the loaves

  93. and gave them to the disciples to set before the people.

  94. And he divided the two fish among them all.

  95. And they all ate and were satisfied.

  96. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish.

  97. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

  98. The impact of the apostles being sent out and being used so effectively

  99. caused the people to follow them all the way to the shore.

  100. When Jesus tried to get them away in a boat,

  101. the people saw them leaving.

  102. And the people saw them traveling.

  103. And they hurried on shore.

  104. Some of them ran as far as eight miles to get to Jesus and his men as they landed.

  105. And what happened next is miraculous.

  106. What this story teaches us is not only the miraculous power of Christ,

  107. but it also teaches us some truths about Christ.

  108. Truths that we need to remember when we're hungry.

  109. Truths we need to remember when we're desperate.

  110. When we're empty.

  111. When we're tired.

  112. Truths we need to remember when we're overwhelmed.

  113. Four truths from this account about Christ.

  114. One is, he cares deeply.

  115. Jesus knew firsthand the need of rest in ministry.

  116. Being all things to all people in the hope of reaching some,

  117. as the apostle Paul put it,

  118. can wear you out.

  119. And Jesus was well aware of that.

  120. He cares for our well-being.

  121. He cared about the apostles' well-being.

  122. And he strived to get them away from the action after intense and productive ministry

  123. and get them the needed rest.

  124. He cares deeply.

  125. What were they?

  126. When they were not able to get that rest

  127. because they had flocked immediately on shore by a lot of needy people,

  128. how did Jesus respond?

  129. Well, verse 34 tells us,

  130. when he went ashore,

  131. he saw a great crowd

  132. and he had compassion on them

  133. because they were like sheep

  134. without a shepherd.

  135. He saw their needs.

  136. He had compassion on them

  137. because he cares deeply.

  138. And in that compassion,

  139. the first thing that he gave them

  140. was exactly what they needed the most

  141. because the rest of that verse says,

  142. and he began to teach them many things.

  143. Luke tells us that he taught them

  144. about the kingdom.

  145. Now, if you want to understand

  146. what he teaches

  147. when he teaches about the kingdom,

  148. the greatest way to find a summary of that

  149. is in the Sermon on the Mount

  150. in Matthew chapter 5 through Matthew chapter 7.

Matthew 5 chapter mention Matthew 7 chapter mention

  151. You'll see very similar messages,

  152. very similar stories

  153. and very similar message

  154. in the Sermon on the Plain

  155. that Luke talks about as well.

  156. So these were redundant themes

  157. that Jesus used from time to time

  158. to teach kingdom truths.

  159. He told them through stories.

  160. He shared with them

  161. how the law of old,

  162. how it applies,

  163. not only physically

  164. in the way that you think,

  165. but how it applies mentally

  166. in our lives as well.

  167. And he gives great application

  168. to what it means

  169. to walk with the Lord

  170. and what it means

  171. not to walk with the Lord.

  172. That's what it means

  173. by teaching the kingdom.

  174. Not only that,

  175. but he taught the gospel.

  176. And the reason why I know that

  177. is because he came

  178. to proclaim the gospel.

  179. He taught them on their level.

  180. He taught them in illustrative ways

  181. that they could understand.

  182. When sheep were in the field,

  183. he would tell a story about sheep.

  184. When you saw the wheat growing in the field,

  185. he would tell a story about wheat.

  186. He spoke to where they were

  187. and understood exactly what they needed

  188. because he cares.

  189. He cares deeply.

  190. When the apostles recognized

  191. all these people

  192. were in desperate place,

  193. he didn't send them away

  194. as the apostles suggested

  195. for him to do.

  196. He didn't leave them

  197. to fend for themselves.

  198. He cared deep enough

  199. about them

  200. to do something about it.

  201. He saw them as sheep

  202. without a shepherd.

  203. Now, personally,

  204. I don't know a lot about sheep.

  205. I'm not a sheep farmer.

  206. I ain't spent a whole lot of time with them.

  207. But I have read about them a lot

  208. because Jesus talked about them a lot.

  209. And I wanted to understand them more.

  210. And I will tell you,

  211. sheep without a shepherd

  212. are going to die.

  213. They will not find the pasture

  214. that they need

  215. once they eat up what they got.

  216. They'll die.

  217. They need help

  218. because they can't fight off the enemy.

  219. And they are easy prey

  220. for any predator.

  221. And so they're victims

  222. often of that.

  223. And when they get knocked down,

  224. they can't get up.

  225. They need help

  226. getting up.

  227. They can't help each other up.

  228. And

  229. when they get dirty,

  230. when they get buggy,

  231. when they get thorny,

  232. they need somebody

  233. to clean them up.

  234. They can't clean their own wool.

  235. Somebody has to care for them.

  236. Somebody has to lead them.

  237. Somebody has to lead them to water.

  238. And Scripture's clear

  239. that

  240. we're like sheep.

  241. And

  242. Christ is our shepherd.

  243. And I am thankful today

  244. that He will lead us

  245. and He will feed us

  246. and He will stand us up

  247. when we fall down.

  248. And He will clean us up

  249. when we get dirty.

  250. And He will protect us

  251. and He'll be right there for us

  252. because He cares

  253. for us.

  254. He cares

  255. deeply.

  256. But it won't stop there.

  257. Another truth

  258. that this accountant

  259. shares with me

  260. is

  261. He provides

  262. sufficiently.

  263. Instead of sending them away,

  264. He tells them

  265. to feed them.

  266. John chapter 6

    John 6 chapter mention

  267. tells us

  268. that He looked at Philip

  269. and asked

  270. where are we to buy bread

  271. so that these people can eat?

  272. Now listen.

  273. The Gospel of Luke

  274. tells us

  275. that they were outside

  276. of Bethsaida.

  277. And Bethsaida

  278. was a small

  279. port village,

  280. a little fishing village.

  281. Very small.

  282. Maybe a couple

  283. hundredfold.

  284. There are no remains

  285. of Bethsaida.

  286. No ruins there

  287. at all.

  288. which tells us

  289. how small

  290. that it was.

  291. You've got

  292. thousands of people

  293. here.

  294. Bethsaida's

  295. McDonald's

  296. could not handle it.

  297. The walkthrough,

  298. they didn't have a drive-through,

  299. would not have been able

  300. to handle it.

  301. Where are we

  302. going to

  303. find this?

  304. There was nothing

  305. in that town

  306. that could feed

  307. thousands.

  308. Christ knew that

  309. and Philip

  310. said eight

  311. months worth

  312. of wages,

  313. get this,

  314. eight months worth

  315. of wages

  316. would not feed

  317. this many people.

  318. And all they

  319. could come up

  320. with was a

  321. boy's lunch.

  322. Scripture says

  323. it was five

  324. barley loaves

  325. and two fish.

  326. Now those

  327. loaves

  328. are not those

  329. big sour

  330. dough loaves

  331. that all you

  332. ladies are making

  333. now since you

  334. attended that

  335. class.

  336. Fellas,

  337. how's that

  338. working out

  339. for you?

  340. I'm still

  341. paying $10

  342. a loaf.

  343. But anyway,

  344. who can let

  345. me go home

  346. with them

  347. today?

  348. They were

  349. small loaves.

  350. like a biscuit.

  351. And these

  352. fish were not

  353. tuna.

  354. They tell me

  355. tuna can weigh

  356. as much as

  357. 1,000 pounds.

  358. No,

  359. these were

  360. very small

  361. pickled fish.

  362. Often used

  363. as a relish.

  364. Let me put it

  365. in our terms.

  366. The boy had

  367. sardines and

  368. crackers is what

  369. he had.

  370. Now,

  371. I'll tell you

  372. that

  373. I got enough

  374. rednecks in

  375. here to say,

  376. man,

  377. that sounds

  378. good.

  379. It's good

  380. lunch.

  381. Until they

  382. begin to share

  383. with somebody

  384. else.

  385. And that

  386. changes

  387. everything.

  388. That ruins

  389. a fishing trip,

  390. brother,

  391. when you got to

  392. share your

  393. can of sardine.

  394. this is all

  395. they had.

  396. But I want

  397. you to hear

  398. me.

  399. All they

  400. had was

  401. enough in

  402. the hands

  403. of the Lord.

  404. It reminds

  405. me of

  406. 2 Kings

    2 Kings 4 chapter mention

  407. chapter 4.

  408. Elisha,

  409. the follower

  410. of Elijah,

  411. that got a

  412. double portion

  413. from him.

  414. God used

  415. Elisha in

  416. such powerful

  417. ways.

  418. And a lady

  419. came to him

  420. and said she

  421. had nothing.

  422. But her

  423. debt was so

  424. deep that she

  425. was going to

  426. have to sell

  427. her two sons

  428. into slavery

  429. to pay her

  430. debt.

  431. And Elisha

  432. asked her,

  433. he said,

  434. what do you

  435. have in your

  436. home?

  437. And she

  438. said,

  439. all I've

  440. got is a

  441. single jar

  442. of oil.

  443. He said,

  444. well then go

  445. to all your

  446. neighbors and

  447. collect as

  448. many empty

  449. jars as you

  450. can find.

  451. So they

  452. did.

  453. And he

  454. said,

  455. when you

  456. get all

  457. those empty

  458. jars,

  459. he said,

  460. go into

  461. your house

  462. and shut

  463. the door.

  464. And as a

  465. family,

  466. take that

  467. jar of oil

  468. and pour it

  469. into an

  470. empty jar.

  471. And when

  472. you fill that

  473. jar,

  474. pour it

  475. into another

  476. one.

  477. And when

  478. you fill that

  479. jar,

  480. pour it

  481. into another

  482. one.

  483. And then

  484. pour it

  485. into another

  486. one.

  487. and then

  488. pour it

  489. into another

  490. one.

  491. And then

  492. sell that

  493. oil and

  494. pay your

  495. debt.

  496. It

  497. happened

  498. just like

  499. Elisha told

  500. her that it

  501. would happen.

  502. God always

  503. provides

  504. sufficiently.

  505. God cares

  506. deeply.

  507. He

  508. provides

  509. sufficiently.

  510. a third

  511. truth from

  512. this text

  513. is this.

  514. He

  515. orders

  516. purposefully.

  517. I want

  518. you to

  519. get this.

  520. Verse 39

  521. and 40

  522. says this.

  523. Then he

  524. commanded

  525. them all

  526. to sit

  527. down in

  528. groups

  529. on the

  530. green grass

  531. so that

  532. they sat

  533. down in

  534. groups by

  535. hundreds

  536. and by

  537. fifties.

  538. Now,

  539. I want

  540. to get

  541. something

  542. straight.

  543. How many

  544. people were

  545. there that

  546. day?

  547. Because what

  548. scripture says

  549. is 5,000

  550. men.

  551. Okay?

  552. We're

  553. going to go

  554. deep in the

  555. language here.

  556. Okay?

  557. In the

  558. Greek language

  559. that word

  560. for men,

  561. you know

  562. what that

  563. means?

  564. Men.

  565. That's what

  566. it means.

  567. It don't

  568. mean people.

  569. It is

  570. distinctive.

  571. It means

  572. men.

  573. And I

  574. want you

  575. to see

  576. what Matthew

  577. 14,

  578. 21 says.

  579. It says,

  580. and those

  581. who ate

  582. were about

  583. 5,000

  584. men

  585. besides

  586. women

  587. and

  588. children.

  589. So,

  590. in that

  591. culture,

  592. what was

  593. prominent in

  594. that culture

  595. would be

  596. that those

  597. men,

  598. most of

  599. those men

  600. brought their

  601. wives.

  602. And most

  603. of those

  604. wives brought

  605. their children.

  606. children.

  607. And so,

  608. you had

  609. a lot

  610. more people

  611. than 5,000

  612. people.

  613. At least

  614. 10,000

  615. people.

  616. Upwards to

  617. 15,000 to

  618. 20,000

  619. people.

  620. Some have

  621. estimated as

  622. much as

  623. 25,000

  624. people.

  625. Most

  626. people.

  627. And Mark

  628. tells us

  629. that he

  630. told them

  631. to sit

  632. in groups

  633. of 50

  634. and 100.

  635. Now,

  636. I want you

  637. to imagine

  638. 20,000

  639. people

  640. sitting in

  641. groups of

  642. 50 to

  643. 100.

  644. That means

  645. that there

  646. were 200

  647. to 400

  648. groups of

  649. people

  650. there

  651. that day.

  652. He is

  653. bringing

  654. order

  655. to the

  656. chaos.

  657. Tens of

  658. thousands of

  659. people

  660. crushing

  661. each other,

  662. jamming

  663. together

  664. dangerously

  665. to get

  666. to Christ

  667. and to

  668. see what

  669. they can

  670. get from

  671. him.

  672. Because,

  673. be clear,

  674. these are

  675. not faithful

  676. people.

  677. They are

  678. wanting

  679. people.

  680. What can

  681. you do

  682. for me

  683. now?

  684. somebody

  685. told me

  686. they went

  687. to the

  688. George

  689. Strait

  690. concert

  691. last

  692. night

  693. and

  694. they

  695. live

  696. about

  697. 25

  698. minutes

  699. away

  700. from

  701. the

  702. stadium

  703. and

  704. they

  705. got

  706. home

  707. an

  708. hour

  709. and

  710. a

  711. half

  712. later.

  713. Okay?

  714. Got at

  715. 2.30 in

  716. the morning.

  717. That's

  718. why your

  719. pastor didn't

  720. go to

  721. George

  722. Strait.

  723. Okay?

  724. Because

  725. Sunday

  726. was coming.

  727. That's

  728. chaos.

  729. Leaving

  730. that place

  731. is chaos.

  732. Can't

  733. even see

  734. the final

  735. song

  736. if you

  737. want to

  738. go

  739. home.

  740. know?

  741. It's

  742. chaos.

  743. Nothing

  744. wrong

  745. with it.

  746. It's

  747. chaos.

  748. As

  749. they

  750. chaotically

  751. clamor

  752. together,

  753. he

  754. says,

  755. sit

  756. down

  757. orderly.

  758. You

  759. know

  760. why?

  761. And I

  762. want you

  763. to hear

  764. this.

  765. We

  766. don't

  767. serve a

  768. God of

  769. chaos.

  770. Corinthians

  771. 14

  772. verse

  773. 33

  774. says

  775. this,

  776. for

  777. God

  778. is

  779. not

  780. a

  781. God

  782. of

  783. confusion,

  784. but

  785. of

  786. peace.

  787. God's

  788. not

  789. chaotic.

  790. And let

  791. me just

  792. give you

  793. a clue.

  794. When

  795. things get

  796. chaotic,

  797. God's

  798. not in

  799. it.

  800. It's a

  801. sign.

  802. It's a

  803. sign.

  804. When I

  805. see people

  806. make sporadic

  807. decisions that

  808. are not

  809. wise,

  810. go from

  811. one thing

  812. to another,

  813. it's

  814. not

  815. God.

  816. Mark that

  817. down.

  818. Remember

  819. that.

  820. When

  821. everybody's

  822. in a

  823. hysteria

  824. about

  825. everything,

  826. God's

  827. not

  828. in

  829. that.

  830. God

  831. commands

  832. them to

  833. sit.

  834. And you

  835. know what

  836. they did?

  837. They

  838. sat.

  839. And by

  840. them

  841. sitting

  842. in those

  843. groups,

  844. it made

  845. aisles for

  846. them to be

  847. able to

  848. distribute the

  849. food they

  850. needed to

  851. be able to

  852. distribute.

  853. Well,

  854. what is

  855. God telling

  856. you to

  857. do in

  858. the midst

  859. of your

  860. chaos?

  861. And the

  862. question is,

  863. when He

  864. says it,

  865. and you

  866. sense His

  867. calming voice

  868. speaking to

  869. you,

  870. what do

  871. you do

  872. in response

  873. to that?

  874. There's

  875. always purpose

  876. behind His

  877. order.

  878. None of

  879. the gospel

  880. accounts say

  881. that they

  882. ask,

  883. why should

  884. we do

  885. that?

  886. They

  887. sat

  888. down.

  889. It's a

  890. trait of

  891. the Lord.

  892. when the

  893. world was

  894. without form

  895. and void,

  896. and by the

  897. way,

  898. the word

  899. form there,

  900. without form,

  901. means literally

  902. chaos.

  903. When the

  904. world was

  905. without form

  906. and void,

  907. you know what

  908. happened?

  909. He spoke

  910. and order

  911. came.

  912. When the

  913. storm raged

  914. wildly,

  915. chaotically

  916. on the sea,

  917. Jesus spoke

  918. and the

  919. storm

  920. stopped.

  921. In the

  922. midst of

  923. your chaos,

  924. remember

  925. something,

  926. God orders

  927. purposefully.

  928. He does

  929. it for a

  930. reason.

  931. It's not

  932. simply to

  933. exert the

  934. sovereignty and

  935. authority of

  936. God.

  937. It's to

  938. bring order

  939. water in

  940. the midst

  941. of our

  942. chaos.

  943. One more

  944. truth I

  945. want you

  946. to see.

  947. He

  948. satisfies

  949. abundantly.

  950. It says,

  951. and they

  952. all ate

  953. and were

  954. satisfied.

  955. It does

  956. not say

  957. everybody got

  958. a nibble.

  959. satisfied.

  960. It says,

  961. Jesus

  962. satisfied.

  963. Fellas,

  964. that word

  965. there for

  966. satisfied is

  967. the same

  968. word they

  969. use when

  970. they put a

  971. bag around

  972. an animal's

  973. head that's

  974. full of

  975. feed and

  976. they eat

  977. the bag

  978. full of

  979. feed.

  980. It is the

  981. same word

  982. that's translated

  983. in the book

  984. of Revelation

  985. gorged when

  986. it's talking

  987. about the

  988. feast.

  989. several

  990. years ago,

  991. me and

  992. a friend

  993. began day

  994. hiking the

  995. Appalachian

  996. Trail in

  997. Georgia.

  998. And we

  999. did it over

  1000. several years.

  1001. We only

  1002. could do

  1003. it.

  1004. I lived

  1005. in Mississippi

  1006. at the

  1007. time.

  1008. We could

  1009. only do

  1010. it once

  1011. a quarter,

  1012. maybe every

  1013. six months

  1014. or so.

  1015. Sometimes we

  1016. skipped a

  1017. year.

  1018. And one

  1019. guy that

  1020. does it all

  1021. the time

  1022. said,

  1023. man,

  1024. it's like

  1025. y'all

  1026. starting over

  1027. every time.

  1028. And he

  1029. said,

  1030. yeah,

  1031. you're

  1032. right.

  1033. Feels

  1034. like it

  1035. when we're

  1036. done.

  1037. We did

  1038. all of

  1039. Georgia

  1040. except for

  1041. the last

  1042. eight miles.

  1043. And the

  1044. problem with

  1045. the last

  1046. eight miles

  1047. is when

  1048. you get

  1049. the last

  1050. eight miles,

  1051. you're nowhere.

  1052. You're eight

  1053. miles from

  1054. anywhere.

  1055. And we

  1056. just never

  1057. want to

  1058. do 16.

  1059. We did

  1060. 13 one

  1061. time in a

  1062. day and

  1063. we paid

  1064. for it.

  1065. So we

  1066. did eight,

  1067. 10,

  1068. 12 miles

  1069. every time

  1070. we went.

  1071. 12.

  1072. And I

  1073. read this

  1074. story and

  1075. I realized

  1076. that when

  1077. I began

  1078. to study

  1079. it and

  1080. realized that

  1081. they had

  1082. traveled eight

  1083. miles to

  1084. get to

  1085. Jesus,

  1086. running and

  1087. working to

  1088. get to

  1089. Jesus.

  1090. And they

  1091. were worn

  1092. like that.

  1093. I thought

  1094. about the

  1095. eight miles.

  1096. That was

  1097. kind of a

  1098. minimum for

  1099. us.

  1100. The eight

  1101. miles when

  1102. we would

  1103. hike.

  1104. And again,

  1105. it took us

  1106. 70 miles,

  1107. so it took

  1108. us several

  1109. times and it

  1110. went over a

  1111. few years.

  1112. And I'm

  1113. a binge

  1114. and purge

  1115. guy,

  1116. you know,

  1117. so some

  1118. days I'm

  1119. watching what

  1120. I eat and

  1121. some days I'm

  1122. not and all

  1123. this kind of

  1124. stuff.

  1125. And so there

  1126. were days when

  1127. I would watch

  1128. my chloric

  1129. count and

  1130. there were

  1131. days I

  1132. wasn't eating

  1133. many carbs

  1134. and all that

  1135. kind of stuff.

  1136. And I

  1137. remember one

  1138. time pulling

  1139. up to a

  1140. fried chicken

  1141. place when

  1142. we got

  1143. done.

  1144. There's a

  1145. Zaxby's that

  1146. if you hike

  1147. that area,

  1148. you go by

  1149. that Zaxby's

  1150. every time.

  1151. And that

  1152. became the

  1153. place where

  1154. we would

  1155. stop to

  1156. eat after

  1157. we had come

  1158. off that

  1159. trail.

  1160. He was

  1161. trying to

  1162. figure out

  1163. what I

  1164. could eat

  1165. and all

  1166. that.

  1167. He said,

  1168. as many

  1169. calories as

  1170. you burn

  1171. a day,

  1172. eat whatever

  1173. you want

  1174. to.

  1175. And we

  1176. did.

  1177. And every

  1178. time we'd

  1179. stop at that

  1180. restaurant or

  1181. whatever restaurant

  1182. we'd stop at,

  1183. we'd gorge

  1184. ourselves,

  1185. we'd eat.

  1186. Why?

  1187. Because I'd

  1188. burned 80,000

  1189. calories or

  1190. whatever it

  1191. was, you

  1192. know?

  1193. That's the

  1194. word that's

  1195. used.

  1196. God

  1197. that's what

  1198. the men

  1199. did.

  1200. That's what

  1201. the women

  1202. did.

  1203. That's what

  1204. the children

  1205. did.

  1206. And they

  1207. were satisfied.

  1208. God

  1209. satisfies

  1210. abundantly.

  1211. The

  1212. apostle Paul

  1213. told it this

  1214. way.

  1215. He said in

  1216. Philippians 419,

  1217. and my God

  1218. will supply

  1219. every need

  1220. of yours

  1221. according to

  1222. his riches

  1223. and glory

  1224. in Christ

  1225. Jesus.

  1226. Jesus told

  1227. us that

  1228. he came to

  1229. give life

  1230. and to

  1231. give it

  1232. more abundantly.

  1233. And I

  1234. want you to

  1235. see how

  1236. abundant

  1237. that it

  1238. was and

  1239. that it

  1240. is.

  1241. Verse 43

  1242. says this,

  1243. and they

  1244. took up

  1245. twelve

  1246. baskets full

  1247. of broken

  1248. pieces and

  1249. of the

  1250. fish.

  1251. Twelve

  1252. baskets.

  1253. Now that's

  1254. not a big

  1255. basket.

  1256. it's the

  1257. equivalent to,

  1258. some of y'all

  1259. will know what

  1260. I mean when I

  1261. say this,

  1262. to a lunch

  1263. pail.

  1264. If you

  1265. don't know

  1266. what that

  1267. is, a

  1268. lunch tote.

  1269. Okay?

  1270. Insulated.

  1271. With a

  1272. fifty dollar

  1273. mug.

  1274. That's

  1275. what it

  1276. is.

  1277. And there

  1278. were twelve

  1279. of them.

  1280. Does that

  1281. number ring a

  1282. bell?

  1283. How many

  1284. men were

  1285. serving the

  1286. group with

  1287. Jesus?

  1288. Twelve.

  1289. They all

  1290. took out

  1291. takeout

  1292. and went

  1293. home.

  1294. and it

  1295. was

  1296. precisely

  1297. enough.

  1298. Because I

  1299. told you

  1300. that God

  1301. orders

  1302. perfectly.

  1303. His

  1304. precision

  1305. is amazing.

  1306. He

  1307. satisfies

  1308. abundantly.

  1309. So

  1310. remember,

  1311. he cares

  1312. deeply.

  1313. Don't you

  1314. ever doubt

  1315. the love

  1316. of God?

  1317. Don't

  1318. you ever

  1319. doubt it.

  1320. He

  1321. sees us as

  1322. sheep without

  1323. a shepherd.

  1324. He cares

  1325. for us

  1326. deeply.

  1327. He

  1328. provides

  1329. sufficiently.

  1330. Never have

  1331. a doubt.

  1332. I like the

  1333. way the

  1334. first Peter

  1335. five,

  1336. seven says

  1337. it in the

  1338. New Living

  1339. Translation.

  1340. Give all

  1341. your worries

  1342. and cares

  1343. to God

  1344. for he cares

  1345. about you.

  1346. what's

  1347. worrying you

  1348. today.

  1349. Give it

  1350. to God.

  1351. If he

  1352. can feed

  1353. an arena

  1354. full with

  1355. a boy's

  1356. lunch,

  1357. what in the

  1358. world are

  1359. you concerned

  1360. about?

  1361. He

  1362. orders

  1363. purposely.

  1364. When God

  1365. speaks order

  1366. in your life,

  1367. listen to

  1368. his guidance.

  1369. He's

  1370. right.

  1371. He

  1372. satisfies

  1373. abundantly.

  1374. He

  1375. satisfies

  1376. every need.

  1377. Every need

  1378. we have.

  1379. By the

  1380. way,

  1381. he is

  1382. our

  1383. greatest

  1384. need.

  1385. And if

  1386. you've

  1387. never

  1388. given your

  1389. heart and

  1390. life to

  1391. the Lord

  1392. Jesus

  1393. Christ,

  1394. that's

  1395. where it

  1396. starts.

  1397. That's

  1398. where that

  1399. more than

  1400. enough kind

  1401. of relationship

  1402. starts.

  1403. Sometimes I

  1404. ask questions

  1405. about that to

  1406. people.

  1407. I say,

  1408. have you

  1409. ever given

  1410. your life,

  1411. have you

  1412. ever become

  1413. a Christian?

  1414. I've

  1415. been a

  1416. Christian

  1417. all my

  1418. life.

  1419. You

  1420. know what?

  1421. I feel

  1422. like I've

  1423. been married

  1424. all my

  1425. life.

  1426. That's a

  1427. good thing.

  1428. But the

  1429. reality is I

  1430. hadn't

  1431. been.

  1432. There was a

  1433. starting point.

  1434. October 28,

  1435. 1995 was

  1436. the starting

  1437. point.

  1438. if you're a

  1439. Christian today,

  1440. it's because

  1441. there was a

  1442. starting point.

  1443. If there's

  1444. never been a

  1445. starting point

  1446. in your life,

  1447. you've never

  1448. surrendered to

  1449. Christ.

  1450. And the

  1451. reality is the

  1452. greatest need

  1453. that we have

  1454. is the Lord

  1455. Jesus Christ.

  1456. greatest need

  1457. that we have

  1458. is to ask

  1459. him to forgive

  1460. us of our

  1461. sins and to

  1462. come into our

  1463. life and to

  1464. change us.

  1465. To empower us

  1466. with the spirit

  1467. of God to be

  1468. able to rely

  1469. upon him for

  1470. all things.

  1471. To give him

  1472. not what we

  1473. got, but to

  1474. give him who

  1475. we are.

  1476. It satisfies

  1477. our greatest

  1478. need.

  1479. It's the

  1480. starting point.

  1481. You don't

  1482. have to know

  1483. the date and

  1484. the time for

  1485. it to be

  1486. sufficient, but

  1487. you better have

  1488. a date and

  1489. time for it to

  1490. be sufficient.

  1491. It has to

  1492. have a starting

  1493. point.

  1494. It don't come

  1495. by church

  1496. attendance.

  1497. It don't

  1498. come by

  1499. baptism.

  1500. It don't

  1501. come by

  1502. holding

  1503. leadership

  1504. positions.

  1505. It comes

  1506. by surrendering

  1507. your life to

  1508. Christ.

  1509. If you have

  1510. done that,

  1511. have you ever

  1512. made that

  1513. public?

  1514. Have you

  1515. ever told

  1516. me bye

  1517. bye?

  1518. Jesus said,

  1519. if you're

  1520. ashamed to

  1521. me before

  1522. men, I'll

  1523. be ashamed

  1524. of you before

  1525. my father,

  1526. which means

  1527. that in

  1528. reality it

  1529. never really

  1530. took place.

  1531. The first

  1532. step to make

  1533. that private

  1534. decision

  1535. public,

  1536. by Jesus'

  1537. example and

  1538. by his

  1539. commission is

  1540. to be

  1541. baptized,

  1542. to recognize

  1543. that relationship

  1544. publicly through

  1545. baptism, a

  1546. physical picture

  1547. of what happens

  1548. to us spiritually.

  1549. If that's

  1550. never happened

  1551. to you, it's

  1552. your next step

  1553. of obedience

  1554. to follow

  1555. God.

  1556. Maybe you're

  1557. here and

  1558. God's drawing

  1559. you to First

  1560. Baptist Church.

  1561. Listen,

  1562. Brian mentioned

  1563. four years,

  1564. four years,

  1565. that I've

  1566. been able to

  1567. be your

  1568. pastor.

  1569. God's been

  1570. good.

  1571. Four

  1572. fabulous years

  1573. and I thank

  1574. you for being

  1575. part of that.

  1576. God's drawing

  1577. you to

  1578. Pickens

  1579. First

  1580. Baptist Church.

  1581. He's doing

  1582. a move here

  1583. and I thank

  1584. God for that.

  1585. He's leading

  1586. you to come.

  1587. Be obedient

  1588. and follow

  1589. him.

  1590. But then

  1591. there's maybe

  1592. stuff in your

  1593. life when you,

  1594. there's your

  1595. stuff.

  1596. stuff that

  1597. he needs

  1598. to bring

  1599. order to,

  1600. needs that

  1601. he needs

  1602. to supply.

  1603. Maybe you've

  1604. been running,

  1605. trying to catch

  1606. him,

  1607. running down

  1608. the shore.

  1609. You need

  1610. relief.

  1611. You need a

  1612. touch.

  1613. Surrender all

  1614. that to God

  1615. tonight.

  1616. At this altar

  1617. with me praying

  1618. in your seat

  1619. wherever,

  1620. just be obedient

  1621. to follow God

  1622. and whatever

  1623. he'd have you

  1624. to do.

  1625. Heavenly Father,

  1626. thank you

  1627. that you are

  1628. more than

  1629. enough.

  1630. For whatever

  1631. it is we need,

  1632. help us to be

  1633. obedient as you

  1634. speak to our

  1635. hearts and lives.

  1636. In Jesus' name,

  1637. amen.

  1638. Amen.
