  1. I want you to turn to 2 Kings chapter 4.

    2 Kings 4 chapter mention

  2. 2 Kings chapter 4.

    2 Kings 4 chapter mention

  3. I pastored a small church while I was in seminary.

  4. And the greatest thing that came out of those three and a half years of ministry there is I met my wife

  5. Who was a friend of a mutual friend and he introduced us and she fell in love instantly.

  6. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  7. Her memory is not that great.

  8. I preached my first Mother's Day sermons in that church.

  9. And on one of them an 82 year old lady who had never had children told me

  10. I've always hated Mother's Day because I couldn't have children.

  11. But I enjoyed your message today.

  12. Thank you for thanking of all of us.

  13. You made it special.

  14. I'm going to tell you something.

  15. Miss Dolly had a big impression on me when she said that.

  16. And ever since I have tried my best to make Mother's Day a day to celebrate godly ladies.

  17. Ladies you are appreciated more than you are told.

  18. Your influence upon our children is beyond measure.

  19. Whether it's your children, your own children or whether it's somebody else's that you're loving on.

  20. I want to thank you for investing in the next generation.

  21. And to give us fellas some love along the way.

  22. It would be an ugly place without you here.

  23. I promise you that.

  24. And I am thankful for you.

  25. Fellas, aren't you thankful for them?

  26. Last week I ventured into 2 Kings chapter 4 for just a moment for an illustration.

    2 Kings 4 chapter mention

  27. But I want to go back there today.

  28. I recently got to hear this passage preached by 88-year-old Dr. Jerry Vines.

  29. If you're not familiar with Jerry Vines, he was the pastor of First Baptist Jacksonville, Florida,

  30. which was the gold standard in how to do Southern Baptist Church in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s.

  31. They had a wonderful pastor's conference that was really for the whole church.

  32. I took a busload of my folks down there one year and got trained by a lot of their lay people in the church that were leaders

  33. and came back and it had an impact immediately upon our church.

  34. He did it right.

  35. Wonderful preacher.

  36. Wonderful man of God.

  37. I'm thankful for him.

  38. He gave some insights about this passage and then I dug a little deeper and cleaned up his mess a little bit.

  39. So the passage is about an encounter with Elisha that he had with a woman that had ministered to him with kindness and hospitality.

  40. And now she was in a crisis.

  41. There's much to learn from this dear lady.

  42. She had trouble having children in a day when that was thought to be a curse from God.

  43. And Elisha told her that she would have a child and she did.

  44. And then one day a crisis came.

  45. 2 Kings chapter 4 beginning in verse 18 says,

    2 Kings 4 chapter mention

  46. Yes, I tell you.

  47. So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.

  48. When the man of God saw her coming, he said to Gehazi, his servant,

  49. Look, there is a Shunammite.

  50. Run at once to meet her and say to her,

  51. Is all well with you?

  52. Is all well with your husband?

  53. Is all well with the child?

  54. And she answered,

  55. All is well.

  56. Why in the world would a mother of a son that had just died say,

  57. All is well?

  58. Well, I want us to understand the questions that she was asked

  59. and the answers that she gave.

  60. Her response was a Hebrew word that you may be familiar with,

  61. Shalom.

  62. Shalom means peace.

  63. It's how we normally think of it.

  64. But it also means it's a great greeting for folks.

  65. But it also means all is well.

  66. And she said that, I believe, it could be for a couple of different reasons.

  67. I really believe she said it for both.

  68. One reason she said it is she is purposefully dismissive.

  69. If this were a conversation today,

  70. one may ask,

  71. How are you doing?

  72. And you respond, I'm fine.

  73. How's your spouse?

  74. Fine.

  75. How's your children?

  76. Fine.

  77. We typically do not respond to such a question in the produce aisle at the grocery store.

  78. Well, let's just hunker down here at the bananas for a few moments

  79. and let me share with you what's happening in my life.

  80. Let me tell you how bad it is.

  81. Let me tell you how sorry my husband is.

  82. Let me tell you how wild my kids are.

  83. I will say that in most cases, if you do that, most people don't want to hear all that.

  84. They were simply trying to be nice and good about their way in the grocery store.

  85. Lou Holtz said one time,

  86. Don't tell people your problems.

  87. Ninety percent of them don't care, and ten percent are glad you got them.

  88. They greeted you with that to speak, not, and then move on.

  89. However, I want to ask the same questions today, particularly to the ladies on this Mother's Day.

  90. And I don't want you to be dismissive.

  91. And I don't want you to be surface.

  92. Instead, I want you to strive to dig a little deeper, to be introspective.

  93. How are you doing?

  94. How are you doing individually?

  95. I mean, really.

  96. How are you doing?

  97. Physically, how are you doing?

  98. Are you getting the rest that you need?

  99. Are you getting the exercise that you need?

  100. Are you seeking the care for yourself that you need?

  101. Because the reality is, it's easy to spend so much time taking care of the kids,

  102. taking care of your spouse,

  103. taking care of your parents,

  104. taking care of the circus that all those people create in your life.

  105. Spend all your time doing that instead of caring for yourself.

  106. Because we feel like we don't have time.

  107. However, that time to take care of yourself has to be made.

  108. Vance Havner, great North Carolina preacher of old,

  109. said, if you don't come apart and rest for a while,

  110. you may just come apart.

  111. How about emotionally?

  112. This lady had experienced an unexpected birth,

  113. and then a few years later, an unexpected death.

  114. And that kind of jolt,

  115. and moving from one extreme to another,

  116. is tough.

  117. When I was pastoring that first church,

  118. while in seminary,

  119. early in ministry,

  120. I rushed to the hospital

  121. after I heard that one of my dear ladies in the church's son

  122. had overdosed.

  123. And I went to the ER,

  124. sat with her family,

  125. until the doctor came out and said,

  126. he didn't make it.

  127. You can come in and see him now.

  128. They had put him in a stark, cold room.

  129. His appearance was not appeasing.

  130. It was tough.

  131. I was young.

  132. I'd never been in a situation like that.

  133. And the weight of that grief

  134. was overwhelming.

  135. As they mourned over him,

  136. clinging to him,

  137. crying out to God over him.

  138. It was horrible.

  139. And then I left there

  140. after praying with him.

  141. I got in my car

  142. and I drove a mile down the road

  143. back to the church.

  144. Because that night,

  145. we were having revival.

  146. It's time for revival.

  147. And as the pastor of the church,

  148. I was to be the one

  149. to help spark it,

  150. get it going,

  151. get people excited.

  152. I thank God that my preaching professor,

  153. I had asked to do the revival.

  154. And he was there that night.

  155. We sat down on the stage

  156. next to each other.

  157. And he took his hand

  158. and put it on my knee.

  159. And he said,

  160. these kind of shifts

  161. in ministry

  162. is what will wear you out

  163. and nobody ever see you.

  164. It's true.

  165. And it happens in life, too.

  166. So I ask you,

  167. how are you doing emotionally?

  168. How are you doing socially?

  169. We all need friends.

  170. The Apostle Paul

  171. in his letters

  172. lists over a hundred

  173. of his friends

  174. throughout those letters.

  175. We need people

  176. that know us.

  177. And even though

  178. they know us,

  179. yet they still love us.

  180. Those kind of people.

  181. And the best place

  182. to find those kind of friends

  183. is in church.

  184. I'm just telling you.

  185. I encourage you

  186. to get engaged.

  187. I will say this

  188. again and again.

  189. If you come to this church

  190. and sit in here

  191. for one hour

  192. and leave

  193. and never

  194. engage

  195. in conversation

  196. and never

  197. build relationships

  198. with folks,

  199. you've missed

  200. the joy

  201. of the possibilities

  202. that are before you.

  203. You need to be

  204. in a life group.

  205. Walking through life

  206. together.

  207. Studying God's word

  208. together.

  209. Praying together.

  210. You need to be

  211. in a Bible study group

  212. that goes after

  213. a specialized

  214. particular interest

  215. that may perk

  216. in your life.

  217. You can be in that class

  218. with other people

  219. with a common interest.

  220. You need that.

  221. You need to be a part

  222. of the fellowships

  223. in the church.

  224. We don't do this

  225. just to be doing it.

  226. We do it in order

  227. for us to build camaraderie,

  228. for us to build

  229. friendships

  230. and help.

  231. This choir,

  232. not only are they

  233. wonderful at singing,

  234. but they're a wonderful

  235. family.

  236. They're a prayer family

  237. that prays together,

  238. that loves one another.

  239. Many times I find out

  240. what's happening

  241. in people's lives

  242. because the choir's

  243. talking to each other,

  244. sharing with one another.

  245. There's a couple

  246. in this church

  247. that's in this choir

  248. that out of the

  249. previous church,

  250. they were kind of

  251. struggling,

  252. particularly the male

  253. in the family.

  254. He was struggling.

  255. His wife was in the choir

  256. and as he was looking

  257. for his place,

  258. she said,

  259. won't you join the choir?

  260. That's my prayer group.

  261. That's what's getting me

  262. through.

  263. And he joined the choir

  264. and it helped him

  265. through it.

  266. And when they came

  267. to this church,

  268. they both immediately

  269. joined the choir

  270. and was part of that.

  271. It's a wonderful way

  272. to fellowship.

  273. I don't care where

  274. you jump in.

  275. I encourage you to jump

  276. in as many as you

  277. have time for.

  278. But I encourage you

  279. to build friendships.

  280. How are you socially?

  281. How are you spiritually?

  282. One of the easiest areas

  283. of neglect in our lives

  284. is our time with the Lord.

  285. I'll be very clear.

  286. There's a satanic strategy

  287. devised just for that.

  288. Satan don't want you

  289. to have time with the Lord.

  290. In reality,

  291. we are too busy

  292. not to pray.

  293. We need a dose

  294. of God's word every day.

  295. And we need to commit

  296. to that.

  297. She said everything

  298. was fine.

  299. But it wasn't.

  300. How are you doing

  301. relationally?

  302. What about with your spouse?

  303. Proverbs 18, 22 says,

  304. He who finds a wife

  305. finds a good thing

  306. and obtains favor

  307. from the Lord.

  308. Proverbs 20, 6 and 7 says,

  309. Many a man proclaims

  310. his own steadfast love,

  311. but a faithful man

  312. who can find

  313. the righteous

  314. who walks

  315. in his integrity.

  316. Blessed are his children

  317. after him.

  318. What about your parents?

  319. How's that relationship?

  320. Exodus chapter 20, verse 12 says,

    Exodus 20:12

  321. Honor your father and mother

  322. that your days may be long

  323. in the land

  324. that your Lord,

  325. your God has given you.

  326. I remember reading that

  327. as a kid

  328. and understanding that

  329. to say that if I don't

  330. honor my mother and father,

  331. they're going to kill me.

  332. The reality is, folks,

  333. when you're grown

  334. and on your own

  335. and you no longer

  336. have to obey your parents,

  337. you still ought to

  338. honor your parents.

  339. What about friends?

  340. How are you doing

  341. relationally with friends?

  342. Ecclesiastes 4, 9, and 10

  343. says this,

  344. Two are better than one

  345. because they have

  346. a good reward

  347. for their toil.

  348. For if they fall,

  349. one will lift up

  350. his fella.

  351. But woe to him

  352. who is alone

  353. when he falls

  354. and has not another

  355. to lift him up.

  356. I meet with men,

  357. they take turns

  358. sometimes coming,

  359. but I meet with

  360. about 80 men total

  361. between 6 a.m.'s class

  362. and 9 a.m.'s class

  363. on Tuesday morning.

  364. We read a common book

  365. together and share together

  366. and tear each other down

  367. and build each other up

  368. and pray together

  369. and those type things.

  370. We just closed out

  371. this semester.

  372. Some of them are grieving

  373. over that this morning,

  374. they told me.

  375. They're missing it already,

  376. you know.

  377. And we'll start back

  378. in August,

  379. and I encourage you men,

  380. if there's any way

  381. your schedule can allow it,

  382. I promise you,

  383. you'll be blessed

  384. by being a part

  385. of that time together.

  386. But a common passage

  387. that we often refer to

  388. probably every week

  389. is Proverbs 27, 17.

  390. Iron sharpens iron

  391. as one man sharpens another.

  392. How are you doing

  393. as a parent?

  394. Psalm 127, 3 says,

  395. Behold, children

  396. are a heritage

  397. from the Lord,

  398. the fruit of the womb,

  399. a reward.

  400. However, I will tell you,

  401. even with all of that,

  402. it's not easy

  403. being a parent.

  404. I have heard

  405. that there are

  406. four stages

  407. of maturity

  408. in children.

  409. And I didn't hear this

  410. from Freud or Erickson.

  411. I heard it from a preacher.

  412. First,

  413. children idolize

  414. their parents.

  415. When they're very young,

  416. man,

  417. they're looking for mama.

  418. They're looking for daddy.

  419. When you come home,

  420. they meet you at the door.

  421. They're like a good dog.

  422. They'll meet you at the door

  423. and love on you.

  424. They idolize

  425. their parents.

  426. Then they demonize

  427. their parents.

  428. We are the cause

  429. and we are the problem

  430. for whatever's wrong

  431. in their lives.

  432. And then,

  433. they utilize

  434. their parents.

  435. They find out

  436. we've got something

  437. they want

  438. and they're not afraid

  439. to ask for it.

  440. And then,

  441. as they mature,

  442. they humanize

  443. their parents.

  444. They realize

  445. that we're not gods.

  446. We're not demons.

  447. We're not things.

  448. But humans

  449. with faults

  450. and with failures.

  451. Parents,

  452. do all you can.

  453. Be as diligent

  454. about it

  455. as you can be.

  456. and then you leave

  457. the rest to the Lord.

  458. God

  459. is perfect.

  460. Yet,

  461. all of God's children

  462. have went wayward.

  463. Every last

  464. one of them.

  465. Don't be surprised

  466. when your struggle

  467. has will.

  468. So,

  469. when somebody asks you

  470. these type of questions,

  471. it's easy to dismiss them.

  472. it's easy to ease by them.

  473. It's easy to move on.

  474. Sometimes,

  475. that might be best.

  476. However,

  477. it's good to do

  478. a spiritual inventory

  479. to lay it out

  480. before the Lord.

  481. She said

  482. all is well.

  483. And she said it

  484. to be purposefully

  485. dismissive.

  486. But I want to explain

  487. to you why

  488. she did that.

  489. She did that

  490. because she

  491. is passionately

  492. expectant.

  493. This lady

  494. put a lot of faith

  495. in the man of God.

  496. She had ministered

  497. to him.

  498. She had been ministered

  499. to by him

  500. and she trusted him.

  501. And I want you

  502. to understand

  503. the back story

  504. of what set

  505. this passage up.

  506. It's in 2 Kings

    2 Kings 4 chapter mention

  507. chapter 4

  508. beginning in verse 8

  509. and it says this.

  510. One day,

  511. Elisha

  512. went out

  513. to Shunem

  514. where a wealthy

  515. woman lived

  516. who urged him

  517. to eat some food.

  518. So whenever

  519. he passed

  520. that way

  521. he would turn

  522. in there

  523. to eat food.

  524. And she said

  525. to her husband

  526. behold now

  527. I know that

  528. this is a holy

  529. man of God

  530. who is continually

  531. passing our way.

  532. Let us make

  533. a small room

  534. on the roof

  535. with walls

  536. and put there

  537. for him

  538. a bed,

  539. a table,

  540. a chair,

  541. and a lamp

  542. so that whenever

  543. he comes to us

  544. he can go there.

  545. Now understand

  546. in this culture

  547. they lived

  548. in a flat

  549. top house

  550. and so if they

  551. wanted to expand

  552. the house

  553. they just had

  554. to build the walls

  555. up a little higher

  556. on the top

  557. and they could

  558. add a room.

  559. That's exactly

  560. what they did

  561. for the prophet

  562. Elisha.

  563. It was a simple

  564. room.

  565. Even the word

  566. for chair

  567. speaks more

  568. of a rustic

  569. stool

  570. but it was

  571. still a place

  572. and what a

  573. blessing.

  574. From time

  575. to time

  576. always

  577. at just

  578. the right

  579. time

  580. people

  581. through the

  582. years

  583. have offered

  584. a beach

  585. house

  586. have offered

  587. a lake

  588. house

  589. have offered

  590. a resting

  591. spot

  592. away

  593. to me

  594. and my

  595. family

  596. and it's

  597. been a blessing.

  598. I know a man

  599. who dearly

  600. loved pastures.

  601. I was able

  602. to pastor him

  603. for the last

  604. six years

  605. of his life.

  606. He had some

  607. property

  608. and he dug

  609. out a fishing

  610. pond

  611. and then

  612. he built

  613. a nice

  614. cabin

  615. on that

  616. pond

  617. and you

  618. know what

  619. he built

  620. it for

  621. primarily?

  622. He had

  623. family functions

  624. there but

  625. he built

  626. it primarily

  627. to house

  628. visiting

  629. preachers

  630. and this

  631. is what

  632. he said

  633. when they

  634. come to

  635. my house

  636. I can't

  637. go to bed

  638. until they

  639. leave

  640. but if I

  641. put them

  642. out there

  643. I can

  644. go see

  645. them

  646. and leave

  647. whenever

  648. I want

  649. to.

  650. this lady

  651. had

  652. accommodated

  653. Elisha

  654. he had

  655. prophesied

  656. that she

  657. would have

  658. a child

  659. and she

  660. did

  661. and when

  662. that child

  663. most likely

  664. had a

  665. sunstroke

  666. is what

  667. theologians

  668. believe

  669. because of

  670. the heat

  671. in the

  672. harvest

  673. it killed

  674. him

  675. she rushed

  676. to get

  677. Elisha

  678. she dismissed

  679. the questions

  680. that she was

  681. asked

  682. she simply

  683. replied

  684. all is

  685. well

  686. but she

  687. was dismissed

  688. because she

  689. was trying

  690. to get

  691. to the

  692. man of

  693. God

  694. she knew

  695. that if

  696. she could

  697. get to

  698. him

  699. that all

  700. would be

  701. well

  702. she was

  703. distressed

  704. of course

  705. but she

  706. had the

  707. faith to

  708. believe

  709. that God

  710. would use

  711. this man

  712. to change

  713. his

  714. circumstances

  715. and that's

  716. exactly

  717. what God

  718. did

  719. 2nd

  720. Kings

  721. chapter 4

  722. verse 27

  723. through 31

  724. says this

  725. and when

  726. she came

  727. to the

  728. mountain

  729. to the

  730. man of

  731. God

  732. she caught

  733. hold

  734. of the

  735. feet

  736. and

  737. Gehazi

  738. came

  739. to push

  740. her

  741. away

  742. but the

  743. man of

  744. God

  745. said leave

  746. her alone

  747. for she's

  748. in bitter

  749. distress

  750. and the

  751. Lord has

  752. hidden it

  753. from me

  754. and has

  755. not told

  756. me

  757. and then

  758. she said

  759. did I

  760. ask my

  761. Lord for

  762. a son

  763. did I

  764. not say

  765. do not

  766. deceive

  767. me

  768. and he

  769. said to

  770. Gehazi

  771. tie up

  772. your garment

  773. and take

  774. my staff

  775. in your

  776. hand and

  777. go

  778. if you

  779. meet

  780. anyone do

  781. not greet

  782. them

  783. and if

  784. anyone

  785. greets

  786. you do

  787. not reply

  788. and lay

  789. my staff

  790. on the

  791. face

  792. of the

  793. child

  794. and then

  795. the mother

  796. of the

  797. child

  798. said as

  799. the Lord

  800. lives and

  801. as you

  802. yourself

  803. live I

  804. will not

  805. leave you

  806. so

  807. Elisha

  808. rose

  809. and followed

  810. her

  811. Gehazi

  812. went on

  813. ahead

  814. and he

  815. laid the

  816. staff

  817. on the

  818. face

  819. of the

  820. child

  821. but

  822. there was

  823. no sound

  824. no sign

  825. of life

  826. therefore he

  827. returned to

  828. meet them

  829. and told

  830. them

  831. the child

  832. has not

  833. awakened

  834. he sent

  835. Gehazi

  836. Gehazi

  837. was

  838. unsuccessful

  839. I

  840. believe

  841. Elisha

  842. knew

  843. he would

  844. be

  845. unsuccessful

  846. I

  847. believe

  848. he did

  849. it for

  850. three

  851. reasons

  852. one I

  853. believe

  854. he sent

  855. him

  856. in a

  857. hurry

  858. away from

  859. them

  860. toward the

  861. dead

  862. son

  863. to put

  864. her at

  865. ease

  866. you

  867. want

  868. urgency

  869. when

  870. something

  871. bad

  872. happens

  873. you

  874. want

  875. to

  876. see

  877. people

  878. moving

  879. and

  880. doing

  881. something

  882. about

  883. it

  884. I

  885. always

  886. say

  887. in the

  888. emergency

  889. room

  890. nobody's

  891. in a

  892. hurry

  893. but

  894. you

  895. because

  896. it

  897. feels

  898. like

  899. that

  900. but

  901. in

  902. reality

  903. they're

  904. working

  905. to

  906. save

  907. lives

  908. but

  909. we

  910. want

  911. to

  912. see

  913. things

  914. happening

  915. immediately

  916. something

  917. had to

  918. be

  919. done

  920. first

  921. to put

  922. her

  923. at

  924. ease

  925. then

  926. it

  927. also

  928. appears

  929. to be

  930. a

  931. lesson

  932. for

  933. Gehazi

  934. whose

  935. greed

  936. and

  937. selfishness

  938. would

  939. later

  940. bring

  941. him

  942. unnecessary

  943. hardship

  944. in

  945. 2nd

  946. Kings

  947. chapter

  948. 5

  949. Elisha

  950. knew

  951. what

  952. he

  953. was

  954. like

  955. he

  956. was

  957. trying

  958. to

  959. prepare

  960. him

  961. to

  962. think

  963. that

  964. it

  965. wasn't

  966. all

  967. about

  968. him

  969. and

  970. I

  971. believe

  972. the

  973. third

  974. reason

  975. it

  976. didn't

  977. work

  978. is

  979. to

  980. teach

  981. us

  982. that

  983. dead

  984. sticks

  985. don't

  986. do

  987. miracles

  988. and

  989. I

  990. want

  991. you

  992. to hear

  993. me

  994. when I

  995. say

  996. God

  997. who

  998. does

  999. the

  1000. miracles

  1001. it's

  1002. not

  1003. in

  1004. the

  1005. stick

  1006. it's

  1007. not

  1008. in

  1009. the

  1010. objects

  1011. it

  1012. wasn't

  1013. in

  1014. Moses

  1015. staff

  1016. it

  1017. was

  1018. in

  1019. the

  1020. God

  1021. that

  1022. Moses

  1023. was

  1024. trusting

  1025. in

  1026. my

  1027. friend

  1028. it's

  1029. not

  1030. in

  1031. things

  1032. it's

  1033. not

  1034. in

  1035. possessions

  1036. it's

  1037. not

  1038. in

  1039. money

  1040. it's

  1041. not

  1042. in

  1043. education

  1044. it's

  1045. not

  1046. in

  1047. pleasure

  1048. our

  1049. hope

  1050. is

  1051. not

  1052. found

  1053. in

  1054. those

  1055. things

  1056. our

  1057. hope

  1058. is

  1059. found

  1060. in

  1061. God

  1062. and

  1063. I

  1064. want

  1065. you

  1066. to

  1067. watch

  1068. what

  1069. happens

  1070. 2nd

  1071. Kings

  1072. chapter 4

  1073. verse

  1074. 32

  1075. says

  1076. this

  1077. when

  1078. Elisha

  1079. came

  1080. into

  1081. the

  1082. house

  1083. he

  1084. saw

  1085. the

  1086. child

  1087. lying

  1088. dead

  1089. on

  1090. his

  1091. bed

  1092. so

  1093. he

  1094. went

  1095. in

  1096. and

  1097. shut

  1098. the

  1099. door

  1100. behind

  1101. him

  1102. the

  1103. two

  1104. of

  1105. them

  1106. and

  1107. prayed

  1108. !

  1109. And

  1110. as

  1111. he

  1112. stretched

  1113. himself

  1114. upon

  1115. him

  1116. the

  1117. flesh

  1118. of

  1119. the

  1120. child

  1121. became

  1122. warm

  1123. and

  1124. then

  1125. he

  1126. got

  1127. up

  1128. again

  1129. and

  1130. walked

  1131. once

  1132. back

  1133. and

  1134. forth

  1135. in

  1136. the

  1137. house

  1138. and

  1139. went

  1140. up

  1141. and

  1142. stretched

  1143. himself

  1144. upon

  1145. him

  1146. the

  1147. child

  1148. sneezed

  1149. seven

  1150. times

  1151. and

  1152. the

  1153. child

  1154. opened

  1155. his

  1156. eyes

  1157. and

  1158. then

  1159. he

  1160. summoned

  1161. Gehazi

  1162. and

  1163. said

  1164. call

  1165. this

  1166. Shimonite

  1167. Shimonite

  1168. and

  1169. so

  1170. he

  1171. called

  1172. her

  1173. and

  1174. when

  1175. she

  1176. came

  1177. to

  1178. him

  1179. he

  1180. said

  1181. pick

  1182. up

  1183. your

  1184. son

  1185. she

  1186. came

  1187. and

  1188. fell

  1189. at

  1190. his

  1191. feet

  1192. bowing

  1193. to

  1194. the

  1195. ground

  1196. she

  1197. picked

  1198. up

  1199. her

  1200. son

  1201. and

  1202. she

  1203. went

  1204. out

  1205. the

  1206. mother

  1207. had

  1208. said

  1209. all

  1210. is

  1211. well

  1212. she

  1213. said

  1214. that

  1215. because

  1216. she

  1217. trusted

  1218. God

  1219. enough

  1220. to

  1221. lay

  1222. out

  1223. a

  1224. plan

  1225. to

  1226. watch

  1227. him

  1228. work

  1229. through

  1230. the

  1231. man

  1232. of

  1233. God

  1234. and

  1235. if

  1236. you

  1237. look

  1238. she

  1239. had

  1240. a

  1241. plan

  1242. she

  1243. laid

  1244. the

  1245. boy

  1246. in

  1247. the

  1248. prophet's

  1249. bed

  1250. she

  1251. went

  1252. with

  1253. haste

  1254. not even

  1255. telling her

  1256. husband

  1257. why she

  1258. was going

  1259. she

  1260. answered

  1261. the

  1262. questions

  1263. that were

  1264. asked her

  1265. along the

  1266. way

  1267. with a

  1268. hurry

  1269. when she

  1270. got to

  1271. him

  1272. she

  1273. clanged

  1274. to him

  1275. inappropriate

  1276. in

  1277. that

  1278. atmosphere

  1279. it

  1280. would

  1281. have

  1282. been

  1283. as

  1284. inappropriate

  1285. for her

  1286. to do

  1287. that

  1288. as

  1289. the

  1290. unclean

  1291. woman

  1292. who

  1293. grabbed

  1294. the

  1295. hymn

  1296. of

  1297. Jesus

  1298. but

  1299. both

  1300. of

  1301. them

  1302. brought

  1303. healing

  1304. healing

  1305. came

  1306. for

  1307. both

  1308. of

  1309. them

  1310. because

  1311. they

  1312. were

  1313. so

  1314. determined

  1315. she

  1316. knew

  1317. the

  1318. Lord

  1319. had

  1320. given

  1321. her

  1322. the

  1323. son

  1324. she

  1325. knew

  1326. the

  1327. Lord

  1328. had

  1329. a

  1330. prophet

  1331. she

  1332. could

  1333. go

  1334. to

  1335. she

  1336. knew

  1337. !

  1338. God

  1339. would

  1340. be

  1341. at

  1342. work

  1343. she

  1344. knew

  1345. however

  1346. it

  1347. turned

  1348. out

  1349. regardless

  1350. of

  1351. what

  1352. happened

  1353. she

  1354. knew

  1355. all

  1356. as

  1357. well

  1358. it's

  1359. a

  1360. famous

  1361. story

  1362. but

  1363. one I

  1364. believe

  1365. that

  1366. we

  1367. need

  1368. to

  1369. know

  1370. and

  1371. maybe

  1372. be

  1373. reminded

  1374. of

  1375. Horatio

  1376. Spadford

  1377. was a

  1378. real estate

  1379. moment

  1380. in

  1381. Chicago

  1382. in

  1383. the

  1384. 1800s

  1385. when

  1386. the

  1387. great

  1388. fire

  1389. of

  1390. Chicago

  1391. came

  1392. through

  1393. it

  1394. took

  1395. a

  1396. lot

  1397. of

  1398. his

  1399. real

  1400. estate

  1401. away

  1402. he

  1403. lost

  1404. a

  1405. lot

  1406. of

  1407. his

  1408. fortune

  1409. after

  1410. that

  1411. his

  1412. son

  1413. was

  1414. tragically

  1415. killed

  1416. he

  1417. was

  1418. in

  1419. a

  1420. low

  1421. spot

  1422. he

  1423. decided

  1424. to

  1425. take

  1426. some

  1427. time

  1428. off

  1429. for

  1430. he

  1431. and

  1432. his

  1433. family

  1434. and

  1435. so

  1436. he

  1437. put

  1438. his

  1439. wife

  1440. and

  1441. his

  1442. four

  1443. girls

  1444. on

  1445. a

  1446. ship

  1447. to

  1448. sail

  1449. back

  1450. to

  1451. England

  1452. where

  1453. they

  1454. were

  1455. from

  1456. he

  1457. intended

  1458. to

  1459. do

  1460. some

  1461. more

  1462. work

  1463. and

  1464. then

  1465. to

  1466. meet

  1467. them

  1468. in

  1469. England

  1470. later

  1471. but

  1472. as

  1473. they

  1474. got

  1475. just

  1476. in

  1477. sight

  1478. of

  1479. Wales

  1480. the

  1481. ship

  1482. got

  1483. in

  1484. a

  1485. storm

  1486. and

  1487. sank

  1488. !

  1489. Many

  1490. died

  1491. including

  1492. his

  1493. four

  1494. daughters

  1495. his

  1496. wife

  1497. sent

  1498. a

  1499. wire

  1500. back

  1501. to

  1502. him

  1503. that

  1504. simply

  1505. stated

  1506. saved

  1507. alone

  1508. Horatio

  1509. made

  1510. the

  1511. means

  1512. to

  1513. make

  1514. his

  1515. way

  1516. to

  1517. see

  1518. his

  1519. wife

  1520. in

  1521. England

  1522. when

  1523. he

  1524. got

  1525. on

  1526. the

  1527. ship

  1528. to

  1529. go

  1530. on

  1531. that

  1532. trip

  1533. he

  1534. asked

  1535. the

  1536. captain

  1537. when

  1538. you

  1539. get

  1540. over

  1541. the

  1542. area

  1543. where

  1544. the

  1545. ship

  1546. went

  1547. down

  1548. will

  1549. you

  1550. please

  1551. let

  1552. me

  1553. know

  1554. when

  1555. they

  1556. got

  1557. over

  1558. those

  1559. haunted

  1560. waters

  1561. !

  1562. He

  1563. knocked

  1564. on

  1565. the

  1566. cabin's

  1567. door

  1568. of

  1569. Horatio

  1570. and

  1571. Horatio

  1572. went

  1573. out

  1574. and

  1575. stood

  1576. on

  1577. that

  1578. deck

  1579. and

  1580. overlooked

  1581. those

  1582. dark

  1583. waters

  1584. that

  1585. swallowed

  1586. the

  1587. baby

  1588. girls

  1589. that

  1590. he

  1591. had

  1592. lost

  1593. and

  1594. he

  1595. wrote

  1596. this

  1597. when

  1598. peace

  1599. like

  1600. a

  1601. river

  1602. attendeth

  1603. my

  1604. way

  1605. when

  1606. sorrows

  1607. like

  1608. sea

  1609. billows

  1610. roll

  1611. whatever

  1612. my

  1613. lot

  1614. thou

  1615. hast

  1616. taught

  1617. me

  1618. to

  1619. say

  1620. it

  1621. is

  1622. well

  1623. it

  1624. is

  1625. well

  1626. with

  1627. my

  1628. soul

  1629. though

  1630. Satan

  1631. should

  1632. buffet

  1633. !

  1634. the

  1635. trial

  1636. should

  1637. come

  1638. let

  1639. this

  1640. blessed

  1641. assurance

  1642. control

  1643. that

  1644. Christ

  1645. has

  1646. regarded

  1647. my

  1648. helpless

  1649. estate

  1650. and

  1651. shed

  1652. his

  1653. own

  1654. blood

  1655. for

  1656. my

  1657. soul

  1658. it

  1659. is

  1660. well

  1661. with

  1662. my

  1663. soul

  1664. it

  1665. is

  1666. well

  1667. it

  1668. is

  1669. well

  1670. I

  1671. know

  1672. that

  1673. with

  1674. Mother's

  1675. Day

  1676. comes

  1677. a lot

  1678. of

  1679. memories

  1680. I

  1681. know

  1682. that

  1683. with

  1684. Mother's

  1685. Day

  1686. comes

  1687. a lot

  1688. of

  1689. burdens

  1690. a lot

  1691. of

  1692. heartaches

  1693. and a

  1694. flood

  1695. of

  1696. thoughts

  1697. but

  1698. whatever

  1699. that is

  1700. that you're

  1701. burdened

  1702. by

  1703. however

  1704. uncertain

  1705. that you

  1706. may feel

  1707. about it

  1708. however

  1709. overwhelming

  1710. it may

  1711. seem

  1712. I want

  1713. you to

  1714. know

  1715. that you

  1716. can bring

  1717. that to

  1718. the Lord

  1719. today

  1720. I want

  1721. you to

  1722. know

  1723. all is

  1724. well

  1725. because of

  1726. Christ

  1727. all is

  1728. well

  1729. I want

  1730. you to

  1731. hear

  1732. me

  1733. it's

  1734. going

  1735. to be

  1736. alright

  1737. God's

  1738. on the

  1739. throne

  1740. and he's

  1741. watching over

  1742. us

  1743. it's

  1744. going

  1745. to be

  1746. alright

  1747. all

  1748. all

  1749. is

  1750. well

  1751. with every

  1752. head bowed

  1753. and every

  1754. eye closed

  1755. I ask

  1756. you today

  1757. what is

  1758. that burden

  1759. you need to

  1760. give to

  1761. God

  1762. today

  1763. whatever

  1764. it is

  1765. lay it

  1766. at his

  1767. feet

  1768. and trust

  1769. him

  1770. all is

  1771. well

  1772. all is

  1773. well

  1774. Lord

  1775. Jesus

  1776. help us

  1777. bring our

  1778. burdens

  1779. to you

  1780. and trust

  1781. you with

  1782. them

  1783. for we

  1784. don't know

  1785. what tomorrow

  1786. holds

  1787. but thank

  1788. God we

  1789. know

  1790. who holds

  1791. tomorrow

  1792. and in

  1793. that we

  1794. rest

  1795. in Jesus

  1796. precious name

  1797. amen
