  1. If you have your Bibles, follow along with me in just a moment.

  2. In Daniel chapter 3, we're going to be looking at Daniel chapter 3.

Daniel 3 chapter mention Daniel 3 chapter mention

  3. ! And don't panic.

  4. I know everybody's seeing those 30 verses.

  5. I'm not going to keep us here beyond 1230.

  6. So, but a few years after I got out of seminary,

  7. I was serving a church south of Louisville, Kentucky,

  8. and I received a phone call from a former church member

  9. where I had served as youth pastor during my seminary days.

  10. Unfortunately, the phone call wasn't to get acquainted again

  11. and catch up on old times, but to share with me

  12. that one of the youth that had been in my youth group

  13. had been killed in a car accident.

  14. What made that a bad situation even more troubling

  15. was that it was the pastor's son.

  16. Now, he and his wife, they had not been able to have children,

  17. and so they had tried for years to adopt.

  18. And a little bit later in life, to start a family,

  19. they were able to adopt a little boy,

  20. and they named him Matthew

  21. because Matthew means a gift from God.

  22. And so they treated that child like he indeed was a gift from God.

  23. And they raised him in the church

  24. and to believe in God and to live for the Lord.

  25. And he was a good young man.

  26. He was.

  27. He honored his parents.

  28. He honored the Lord.

  29. And he grew up to be a big boy

  30. who went to college to play football

  31. at one of the Baptist colleges in Kentucky.

  32. And he had come home over the Christmas break,

  33. dropped his laundry off at the house,

  34. and took off to hang out with some friends.

  35. His parents never even saw him.

  36. And then that night, he was coming home,

  37. and he got off the side of the road a little bit too far in a curve,

  38. and he overcompensated and came back across the road

  39. and went off the road again.

  40. If he had just stayed off the road on either occasion,

  41. he would have been fine.

  42. But he tried to steer it back onto the road again

  43. on an oncoming car, hit him in the side,

  44. and killed him instantly.

  45. You know, at times in our lives,

  46. it's hard to understand the will of God, isn't it?

  47. At times, it's very difficult to process

  48. and wonder the things that God does or allows.

  49. And maybe sometimes it's even harder to understand

  50. the things that God does not do.

  51. You know, we go before God, and we pray in faith,

  52. and we ask him to protect.

  53. We ask him to heal.

  54. We ask him to save our loved ones who are lost.

  55. And to work in our lives and situations and circumstances

  56. that we may be struggling with.

  57. And we ask God to come into our lives

  58. and to work in a way that only he can do.

  59. And we come knowing that God is all-powerful, almighty,

  60. and he can do it.

  61. But there are other times when God doesn't answer us

  62. in the manner in which we hope.

  63. He doesn't answer us in the way we've asked

  64. or even depended upon and trusted.

  65. The healing that we pray for doesn't come.

  66. The door doesn't open.

  67. The person we love doesn't get better.

  68. Situations didn't change.

  69. And we wonder in situations like this,

  70. Matthew was given to his parents as a gift.

  71. And after 18 years, he was taken away from them.

  72. And it's hard to understand why God would allow

  73. something like that to happen.

  74. And so we have faith in God.

  75. We know he's all-powerful, almighty,

  76. and he can do all things.

  77. But it's in moments like this that we struggle to have faith.

  78. It's moments like this that really challenge our faith

  79. and to understand the Lord.

  80. And that's why today we're going to be looking at Daniel chapter 3.

    Daniel 3 chapter mention

  81. And everybody here, if you grew up in church,

  82. or if you've been in church any period of time in your life,

  83. this is going to be a familiar Bible story lesson to you.

  84. But I want to take it to a new level today, hopefully.

  85. It's not just a story about three young Jewish guys

  86. in a fiery furnace that we learned about in Sunday school.

  87. It's a story about faith

  88. and how we can have faith in the Lord

  89. even when he doesn't answer our prayers.

  90. Or he doesn't answer them in the way we hoped,

  91. that we had cried out for,

  92. we trusted,

  93. or maybe we don't even see him working at all.

  94. We don't see it.

  95. We know God is always working in our lives,

  96. but we may not understand it.

  97. And so this is a story about taking our faith

  98. as children of God to a new level,

  99. trusting his plan and his will

  100. in our lives when it's hurtful.

  101. It's painful.

  102. You know, it's difficult for us to cope with and deal with.

  103. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego believed God could save them.

  104. They had no doubt about that.

  105. They knew God could,

  106. even though their nation had been defeated by the Babylonians

  107. and they had been exiled,

  108. you know, to live in Babylon,

  109. they still trusted and believed that God could do this.

  110. But their faith wasn't based on that.

  111. Their faith wasn't based on the fact that God would do what they asked

  112. or what they needed or what,

  113. or from their eyes,

  114. and what they wanted.

  115. Their faith was based upon who God was,

  116. his character,

  117. his holiness,

  118. and that he is the only one true God.

  119. And they were willing,

  120. we'll see in just a moment,

  121. to say,

  122. our God is able to deliver us,

  123. but even if he doesn't,

  124. we will still worship him.

  125. And that's what I want us to talk about today

  126. as children of God,

  127. is how we can take our faith to a whole new level.

  128. How we have faith in God

  129. in the midst of the struggles,

  130. in the midst of the pain,

  131. in the midst of the suffering,

  132. in the midst of the silence.

  133. How do we say,

  134. our God is able,

  135. but if not.

  136. But if he doesn't.

  137. We're still going to trust him,

  138. we're still going to worship him,

  139. and we're going to give our lives fully and completely

  140. to him in all things.

  141. So, before we jump into our scripture this morning,

  142. in Daniel chapter 3,

    Daniel 3 chapter mention

  143. I want us to go to the Lord in prayer.

  144. Father, we thank you for the day.

  145. Thank you, Lord, for this nation.

  146. Thank you for the freedoms that we have here

  147. to assemble together as the body of Christ

  148. and to worship you.

  149. But thank you even more

  150. that your son died for us,

  151. that your son bought our freedom from our sin,

  152. that we might be cleansed,

  153. we might be forgiven to be in a right relationship with you.

  154. And I pray, Lord, today as we study your word,

  155. that you'll speak to each of our hearts.

  156. For those who are facing challenges,

  157. difficulties,

  158. hardships,

  159. or maybe struggling with faith,

  160. I ask, Lord,

  161. that you are here

  162. with us

  163. and that you're speaking to us,

  164. helping us to feel your hand upon us.

  165. And we thank you for that,

  166. and we praise you in Jesus' name.

  167. Amen.

  168. So I know we've got 30 verses here,

  169. but we're going to shorten it a little bit.

  170. I'm going to, well,

  171. I'm not going to shorten it too much,

  172. but I'm going to break it up

  173. and not read it all at once.

  174. But just so you know,

  175. this is taking place in Babylon.

  176. It was a customary in that day

  177. when a nation conquered another nation

  178. that they would come in

  179. and they would find the wisest,

  180. the most educated,

  181. the most skilled,

  182. and they would uproot them

  183. and relocate them somewhere else.

  184. It helped keep from uprisings

  185. and rebellions

  186. as they did that,

  187. and they would mix them

  188. and mingle them

  189. with other peoples.

  190. That's why the Samaritans

  191. were hated by the true Jews

  192. because that very thing

  193. had taken place in Samaria

  194. where a lot of the people were Jews,

  195. but then other people were brought in

  196. and they mingled,

  197. and then none of them

  198. could trace their lineage

  199. directly back to being a pure Jew.

  200. And so that's why

  201. in the New Testament days

  202. we see such a hatred

  203. towards the Samaritan people

  204. by the Jews.

  205. So let's look at the first 18 verses

  206. at this time together.

  207. King Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue

  208. 90 feet tall and 9 feet wide,

  209. and he set it up on the plain of Dura

  210. in the province of Babylon.

  211. Then he sent messages

  212. to the high officers,

  213. officials, governors, advisors,

  214. treasurers, judges, magistrates,

  215. and all the provincial officials

  216. to come to the dedication

  217. of the statue he had set up.

  218. So all these officials came

  219. and stood before the statue

  220. King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

  221. Then a herald shouted out,

  222. People of all races and nations

  223. and languages,

  224. listen to the king's command.

  225. When you hear the sound of the horn,

  226. the flute, the zither, lyre, harp,

  227. pipes, and other musical instruments,

  228. bow to the ground

  229. to worship King Nebuchadnezzar's gold statue.

  230. Anyone who refuses to obey

  231. will immediately be thrown

  232. into a blazing furnace.

  233. So at the sound of the musical instruments,

  234. all the people,

  235. whatever their race or nation or language,

  236. bowed to the ground

  237. and worshipped the gold statue

  238. that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

  239. But some of the astrologers

  240. went to the king

  241. and informed on the Jews.

  242. They said to King Nebuchadnezzar,

  243. Long live the king.

  244. You issued a decree

  245. requiring all the people

  246. to bow down

  247. and worship the gold statue

  248. when they hear the sound

  249. of the horn, flute, zither,

  250. lyre, harp, pipes,

  251. and other musical instruments.

  252. That decree also states

  253. that those who refuse to obey

  254. must be thrown

  255. into a blazing furnace.

  256. But there are some Jews,

  257. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,

  258. whom you have put in charge

  259. of the province of Babylon.

  260. They pay no attention

  261. to you, your majesty.

  262. They refuse to serve your gods

  263. and do not worship

  264. the gold statue

  265. that you have set up.

  266. Then Nebuchadnezzar flew

  267. into a rage

  268. and ordered that Shadrach,

  269. Meshach, and Abednego

  270. be brought before him.

  271. When they were brought in,

  272. Nebuchadnezzar said to them,

  273. Is it true,

  274. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,

  275. that you refuse

  276. to serve my gods

  277. or to worship

  278. the gold statue

  279. I have set up?

  280. I will give you

  281. one more chance

  282. to bow down

  283. and worship the statue

  284. I have made

  285. when you hear the sound

  286. of the musical instruments.

  287. But if you refuse,

  288. you will be thrown

  289. immediately

  290. into the blazing furnace.

  291. And then what god

  292. will be able

  293. to rescue you

  294. from my power?

  295. Shadrach, Meshach,

  296. and Abednego replied,

  297. Oh Nebuchadnezzar,

  298. we do not need

  299. to defend ourselves

  300. before you.

  301. If we are thrown

  302. into the blazing furnace,

  303. the god whom we serve

  304. is able to save us.

  305. He will rescue us

  306. from your power,

  307. your majesty.

  308. Now listen to this.

  309. But even if he doesn't,

  310. we want to make it clear

  311. to you, your majesty,

  312. that we will never

  313. serve your gods

  314. or worship the gold statue

  315. you have set up.

  316. You know,

  317. after being defeated

  318. by the Babylonians,

  319. you know,

  320. a lot of the Jews,

  321. the skilled,

  322. educated,

  323. individuals were moved.

  324. And Shadrach, Meshach,

  325. and Abednego,

  326. along with men like Daniel,

  327. were identified

  328. as individuals

  329. who had great wisdom

  330. and leadership abilities.

  331. So they were given

  332. responsibilities

  333. within the Babylonian Empire.

  334. And then,

  335. Nebuchadnezzar

  336. builds this gold statue,

  337. 90 feet high.

  338. That's the size of a nine-story building.

  339. And nine feet wide.

  340. And he orders that everyone,

  341. when the music is played,

  342. that everyone would bow down

  343. and worship the gods

  344. that King Nebuchadnezzar

  345. had designated

  346. or that they worshipped

  347. in that area,

  348. which was not the God of Israel,

  349. not, you know,

  350. Yahweh.

  351. And so,

  352. he commanded them.

  353. And he made it very clear

  354. what would happen

  355. if they did not.

  356. This wasn't a suggestion.

  357. It wasn't a request.

  358. It was a command

  359. and made it very clear

  360. that if they did not bow,

  361. immediately,

  362. they would be thrown

  363. into a fiery furnace.

  364. You didn't have time to think.

  365. If you didn't bow down

  366. right now,

  367. you're being thrown

  368. into a fiery furnace.

  369. So Shadrach,

  370. Meshach,

  371. and Abednego,

  372. they knew the command

  373. and they knew the consequences

  374. very clearly

  375. of that command.

  376. And the scriptures

  377. don't tell us

  378. that they got together

  379. and talked about it,

  380. but they may have

  381. because there's three of them

  382. and they were all in agreement.

  383. they were not bowing down

  384. to that statue

  385. because they knew

  386. the laws of Israel

  387. and that God had given them

  388. to not have any images,

  389. any idols,

  390. to bow before no one

  391. besides God himself.

  392. And so,

  393. they were not going

  394. to bow down

  395. to this statue.

  396. And that tells us

  397. something really important

  398. here in the scripture

  399. that we don't need to miss.

  400. That sometimes

  401. this type of faith,

  402. this type of allegiance

  403. to God

  404. and dedication to God

  405. has to be determined

  406. in advance.

  407. We can't wait

  408. until we're face to face

  409. with the situation

  410. and then all of a sudden

  411. try to muster up

  412. the courage

  413. to stand for the Lord.

  414. We have to decide

  415. in advance,

  416. maybe today,

  417. right now,

  418. what we're going to do

  419. when we're confronted

  420. with compromising

  421. compromising our faith,

  422. maybe compromise

  423. to not honor the Lord

  424. but to adopt the practices

  425. and the customs

  426. of our culture.

  427. You know,

  428. we may never be asked

  429. to bow down

  430. before a gold statue.

  431. I can almost guarantee

  432. that you won't.

  433. But the world still puts

  434. a lot of pressure

  435. on us,

  436. doesn't it?

  437. It pressures us

  438. to remain quiet,

  439. to blend in,

  440. to compromise

  441. what God has called us

  442. to be and to do.

  443. God has called us

  444. to be set apart

  445. and to be different

  446. from the world

  447. and yet there's all

  448. this pressure

  449. from the world

  450. for us to blend in

  451. and to be just like

  452. everyone else,

  453. to make comfort

  454. a God

  455. or entertainment

  456. our God

  457. or to strive

  458. for success

  459. as if that is

  460. the most important thing

  461. in our lives.

  462. But God has called us

  463. not to get entangled

  464. in the things

  465. of this world,

  466. to be set apart,

  467. to be different

  468. and to honor Him

  469. and to not go along

  470. with culture

  471. and we may think

  472. well the whole world

  473. is going this way

  474. and I'm just one person.

  475. But I want you to notice

  476. as we'll continue

  477. in the scriptures

  478. in just a moment,

  479. these three guys

  480. took a stand

  481. and you will see

  482. when we read

  483. the final verses

  484. the impact

  485. that those three guys,

  486. they were willing

  487. to die

  488. and if it weren't

  489. for God delivering them,

  490. they certainly would have

  491. but their faith

  492. made a huge difference.

  493. Our faith today,

  494. it may not change

  495. the world

  496. but our faith today

  497. can change those

  498. around us.

  499. It can change

  500. our families,

  501. maybe friends,

  502. neighbors,

  503. those around us

  504. who see us

  505. living for the Lord

  506. and not compromising

  507. our faith,

  508. not adopting the

  509. beliefs of this world

  510. that we live in

  511. and as our nation

  512. drifts further and

  513. further away

  514. from the foundation

  515. of which it stands,

  516. we need Christians

  517. taking a stand,

  518. not necessarily

  519. being obnoxious

  520. and loud

  521. but just to live

  522. out your faith

  523. and not compromise

  524. what God

  525. has certainly

  526. called us to do.

  527. Well,

  528. when Shadrach,

  529. Meshach,

  530. and Abednego,

  531. when they refused

  532. to bow,

  533. there were those

  534. just like with Daniel

  535. who were jealous

  536. of them,

  537. they wanted maybe

  538. their leadership

  539. position

  540. and so they went

  541. and they told

  542. Nebuchadnezzar

  543. that they had

  544. refused to bow

  545. and reminded him

  546. of the consequences

  547. of that

  548. and Nebuchadnezzar

  549. became furious.

  550. He was a pretty

  551. prideful kind of guy

  552. and when he spoke,

  553. everybody listened

  554. because if you didn't,

  555. he would do away

  556. with you

  557. and so he was used

  558. to getting his way

  559. and so he asked

  560. them a question

  561. that was really

  562. important.

  563. He says,

  564. who is the God

  565. who will deliver

  566. you out of my hands?

  567. I mean,

  568. he's already

  569. conquered Israel

  570. and he feels like

  571. he's conquered

  572. the God of Israel

  573. so he's asking them,

  574. what God

  575. are you believing

  576. in now?

  577. Who's going

  578. to deliver

  579. you from me?

  580. And then their response

  581. is one of the

  582. strongest responses

  583. in all of Scripture

  584. of faith

  585. and trust

  586. and worship

  587. of God.

  588. You know,

  589. they said

  590. the God

  591. that they served,

  592. the God

  593. of Israel

  594. would deliver

  595. them.

  596. They believed

  597. that God

  598. could rescue

  599. them

  600. from the furnace

  601. and from the power

  602. but then

  603. what they continue

  604. to say

  605. takes the story

  606. to a whole

  607. new level

  608. because their

  609. faith

  610. wasn't just

  611. based in God

  612. doing what

  613. they asked.

  614. their faith

  615. was in

  616. God alone

  617. and they said

  618. our God

  619. will deliver

  620. us

  621. but even

  622. if he

  623. doesn't.

  624. Let that

  625. sink in a minute.

  626. How much

  627. of our

  628. worship

  629. or our faith

  630. is God

  631. taking care

  632. of us,

  633. providing for us,

  634. answering prayers?

  635. How much

  636. of our

  637. loyalty

  638. and allegiance?

  639. our faith

  640. but what if

  641. we stood

  642. on the edge

  643. of a fiery

  644. furnace

  645. and we knew

  646. we were getting

  647. ready to go

  648. in?

  649. You know,

  650. their faith

  651. was even

  652. if he

  653. doesn't,

  654. we still

  655. will worship

  656. him.

  657. You know,

  658. this is sometimes

  659. where we struggle

  660. in life,

  661. don't we?

  662. When we

  663. pray,

  664. we cry out

  665. to the Lord,

  666. we ask God

  667. to work

  668. and we move

  669. and he either

  670. says no

  671. or maybe

  672. he's remained

  673. silent

  674. for the moment.

  675. Maybe we're not

  676. hearing,

  677. maybe we're not

  678. seeing,

  679. maybe we're not

  680. feeling him

  681. do anything.

  682. And it's a real

  683. challenge

  684. to maintain

  685. faith,

  686. isn't it?

  687. The hard part

  688. is trusting

  689. God

  690. when he's

  691. not doing

  692. what we

  693. think

  694. we need

  695. him to do.

  696. we think

  697. he needs

  698. to do

  699. this

  700. or move

  701. in this

  702. way

  703. or act

  704. in that

  705. way

  706. or deliver

  707. us from

  708. this

  709. or open

  710. this door

  711. for us

  712. or change

  713. the situation

  714. and we

  715. think,

  716. God,

  717. you need

  718. to do

  719. this

  720. and it's

  721. real hard

  722. to maintain

  723. faith over

  724. a period

  725. of time,

  726. maybe years,

  727. maybe decades

  728. that we've

  729. been praying

  730. and God

  731. has not

  732. answered

  733. in the manner

  734. in which

  735. we want

  736. him to

  737. or in

  738. the way

  739. we think

  740. he should.

  741. But true

  742. faith,

  743. true worship

  744. of Jesus

  745. is not

  746. based on

  747. him doing

  748. what we

  749. ask him

  750. to do.

  751. True

  752. faith is

  753. knowing that

  754. God knows

  755. what we

  756. need far

  757. more than

  758. we do.

  759. God

  760. knows

  761. what he's

  762. doing in

  763. our lives

  764. and he

  765. may be

  766. preparing us

  767. for something,

  768. he may be

  769. putting us

  770. through

  771. difficulties,

  772. hardships,

  773. so that

  774. he's

  775. rooting out

  776. pride,

  777. materialism,

  778. unforgiveness,

  779. a hard

  780. heart.

  781. He may be

  782. preparing us

  783. for work

  784. like he

  785. was Joseph

  786. to get him

  787. ready for

  788. something and

  789. we have to

  790. learn to

  791. come to

  792. him even

  793. when we

  794. don't

  795. understand,

  796. even when

  797. it's painful,

  798. even when

  799. it's sacrificial

  800. and it

  801. cost us

  802. something to

  803. stand and

  804. worship him.

  805. Now, what

  806. we're going to

  807. learn next,

  808. and I know

  809. we're running

  810. short on time,

  811. but I won't

  812. charge any

  813. extra,

  814. is God

  815. may not

  816. deliver us

  817. from the

  818. fire,

  819. but he'll

  820. be there

  821. with us

  822. in the

  823. fire.

  824. So let's

  825. look at

  826. verses 19

  827. through 29.

  828. Nebuchadnezzar

  829. was so

  830. furious with

  831. Shadrach,

  832. Meshach,

  833. and Abednego

  834. that his

  835. face became

  836. distorted

  837. with rage.

  838. He commanded

  839. that the

  840. furnace be

  841. heated seven

  842. times hotter

  843. than usual.

  844. Then he

  845. ordered some

  846. of the

  847. strongest men

  848. of his

  849. army to

  850. bind Shadrach,

  851. Meshach,

  852. and Abednego

  853. and throw

  854. them into

  855. the blazing

  856. furnace.

  857. So they

  858. tied them

  859. up and

  860. threw them

  861. into the

  862. furnace,

  863. fully dressed

  864. in their

  865. pants,

  866. turbans,

  867. robes,

  868. and other

  869. garments.

  870. And because

  871. the king

  872. in his

  873. anger had

  874. demanded

  875. such a

  876. hot fire

  877. in the

  878. furnace,

  879. the flames

  880. killed the

  881. soldiers as

  882. they threw

  883. the three

  884. men in.

  885. So Shadrach,

  886. Meshach,

  887. and Abednego

  888. securely tied

  889. fell into

  890. the roaring

  891. flames.

  892. But suddenly

  893. Nebuchadnezzar

  894. jumped up in

  895. amazement and

  896. exclaimed to

  897. his advisors,

  898. didn't we tie

  899. up three men

  900. and throw them

  901. into the

  902. furnace?

  903. Yes,

  904. your majesty,

  905. we certainly

  906. did,

  907. they replied.

  908. Well,

  909. look,

  910. Nebuchadnezzar

  911. shouted,

  912. I see four

  913. men,

  914. unbound,

  915. walking around

  916. in the fire

  917. unharmed,

  918. and the

  919. fourth looks

  920. like a

  921. god.

  922. Then

  923. Nebuchadnezzar

  924. came as

  925. close as he

  926. could to

  927. the door

  928. of the

  929. flaming

  930. furnace,

  931. and he

  932. shouted,

  933. Shadrach,

  934. Meshach,

  935. and Abednego,

  936. servants of

  937. the most

  938. high god.

  939. Pay attention

  940. to that.

  941. Remember

  942. earlier he

  943. said,

  944. what god

  945. is going

  946. to deliver

  947. you?

  948. And now

  949. look,

  950. because of

  951. their faith,

  952. look what

  953. he's saying,

  954. servants of

  955. the most

  956. high god,

  957. come out,

  958. come here.

  959. So Shadrach,

  960. Meshach,

  961. and Abednego

  962. stepped out

  963. of the fire,

  964. then the

  965. high officers,

  966. officials,

  967. governors,

  968. and advisors

  969. crowded around

  970. them and saw

  971. that the fire

  972. had not

  973. touched

  974. them.

  975. Not a hair

  976. on their

  977. heads was

  978. singed,

  979. and their

  980. clothing was

  981. not scorched,

  982. they didn't

  983. even smell

  984. like smoke.

  985. Then

  986. Nebuchadnezzar

  987. said,

  988. praise to

  989. the god

  990. of Shadrach,

  991. Meshach,

  992. and Abednego.

  993. He sent

  994. his angels

  995. to rescue

  996. his servants

  997. who trusted

  998. in him.

  999. They

  1000. defied

  1001. the king's

  1002. command

  1003. and were

  1004. willing to

  1005. die rather

  1006. than serve

  1007. or worship

  1008. any god

  1009. except their

  1010. own god.

  1011. Therefore,

  1012. I make

  1013. this decree.

  1014. If any

  1015. people,

  1016. whatever their

  1017. race or

  1018. nation or

  1019. language,

  1020. speak a

  1021. word against

  1022. the god

  1023. of Shadrach,

  1024. Meshach,

  1025. and Abednego,

  1026. they will

  1027. be torn

  1028. limb from

  1029. limb and

  1030. their houses

  1031. will be

  1032. turned into

  1033. heat of

  1034. rubble.

  1035. There is

  1036. no other

  1037. god who

  1038. can rescue

  1039. like this.

  1040. You know,

  1041. Nebuchadnezzar

  1042. had ordered

  1043. that the

  1044. fire be

  1045. heated up

  1046. seven times

  1047. hotter

  1048. than normal

  1049. and he

  1050. found the

  1051. strongest of

  1052. his soldiers

  1053. to bind

  1054. them and

  1055. throw them

  1056. into the

  1057. fire.

  1058. Now,

  1059. at that

  1060. moment in

  1061. time,

  1062. you might

  1063. think,

  1064. and these

  1065. poor,

  1066. young,

  1067. naive men,

  1068. they could

  1069. have just

  1070. bowed.

  1071. They didn't

  1072. have to

  1073. pledge allegiance

  1074. in their

  1075. heart,

  1076. did they?

  1077. They could

  1078. have just

  1079. bowed before

  1080. that statue

  1081. and gone

  1082. on about

  1083. life and

  1084. lived happily

  1085. ever after.

  1086. Nobody would

  1087. have known.

  1088. They could

  1089. have apologized

  1090. They could

  1091. to God

  1092. later and

  1093. asked for

  1094. forgiveness.

  1095. It looked

  1096. like they

  1097. had made

  1098. the wrong

  1099. choice.

  1100. It looked

  1101. like they

  1102. had put

  1103. their hope

  1104. and faith

  1105. in the

  1106. wrong thing.

  1107. They're

  1108. getting ready

  1109. to be

  1110. thrown

  1111. into a

  1112. fiery

  1113. furnace and

  1114. there is

  1115. no hope.

  1116. But wait.

  1117. The scripture

  1118. flips it

  1119. upside down

  1120. and shows

  1121. us real

  1122. quick.

  1123. Nebuchadnezzar

  1124. goes to the

  1125. furnace and

  1126. there's a

  1127. door where

  1128. he can look

  1129. in the

  1130. furnace and

  1131. what does

  1132. he see?

  1133. he doesn't

  1134. see three

  1135. dead corpses

  1136. laying there

  1137. burning.

  1138. He sees

  1139. four men

  1140. walking around

  1141. in the

  1142. furnace

  1143. unbound

  1144. and unharmed

  1145. and the

  1146. fourth

  1147. it said

  1148. look like

  1149. a god.

  1150. God didn't

  1151. keep them

  1152. from the

  1153. fire did

  1154. he?

  1155. He didn't

  1156. prevent them

  1157. from this

  1158. challenge.

  1159. He didn't

  1160. prevent them

  1161. from being

  1162. thrown into

  1163. the fire

  1164. but what

  1165. he did

  1166. is he

  1167. met them

  1168. in the

  1169. fire.

  1170. And you

  1171. know there

  1172. are times

  1173. in our

  1174. lives when

  1175. God lets

  1176. us go

  1177. through the

  1178. fires because

  1179. he needs

  1180. to do

  1181. something in

  1182. our lives.

  1183. He needs

  1184. to mold

  1185. us, shape

  1186. us, root

  1187. some things

  1188. out of us

  1189. or prepare

  1190. us for

  1191. something he

  1192. has for

  1193. us to do.

  1194. And you

  1195. know your

  1196. greatest testimony

  1197. as a child

  1198. of God is

  1199. not that

  1200. God prevented

  1201. you from

  1202. ever going

  1203. through the

  1204. fires.

  1205. your greatest

  1206. testimony is

  1207. that God

  1208. met you

  1209. in the

  1210. fire and

  1211. that God

  1212. walked with

  1213. you in

  1214. that fire

  1215. and God

  1216. took care

  1217. of you in

  1218. that fire

  1219. and God

  1220. worked according

  1221. to his will

  1222. and accomplished

  1223. the things

  1224. that he

  1225. wanted to

  1226. accomplish in

  1227. your life.

  1228. You know

  1229. today maybe

  1230. you're praying

  1231. for something

  1232. and you're

  1233. believing that

  1234. God is able.

  1235. Keep praying.

  1236. Keep trusting.

  1237. Keep asking

  1238. praying because

  1239. God is able.

  1240. And Jesus

  1241. told us in

  1242. the parable

  1243. of the

  1244. persistent

  1245. widow keep

  1246. coming to

  1247. him and

  1248. praying.

  1249. But also

  1250. in our

  1251. prayers ask

  1252. him to

  1253. develop our

  1254. faith to a

  1255. new level.

  1256. That our

  1257. faith is not

  1258. based on a

  1259. God just

  1260. taking care of

  1261. us and

  1262. making our

  1263. life good

  1264. and easy

  1265. and perfect

  1266. but that our

  1267. faith is built

  1268. on a God

  1269. that even if

  1270. he doesn't

  1271. deliver us

  1272. even if he

  1273. doesn't heal

  1274. us even if

  1275. he doesn't

  1276. heal our

  1277. loved ones

  1278. we're still

  1279. going to

  1280. worship him.

  1281. You know

  1282. because he

  1283. is a God

  1284. he is the

  1285. only one

  1286. true God

  1287. Jesus Christ

  1288. is the only

  1289. true God

  1290. and he came

  1291. to this earth

  1292. to die

  1293. for us.

  1294. He took

  1295. all of our

  1296. sin upon

  1297. himself and

  1298. took our

  1299. place and

  1300. one day

  1301. we'll be

  1302. able to

  1303. spend eternity

  1304. in heaven

  1305. and maybe

  1306. we'll care

  1307. about some

  1308. of the

  1309. answers but

  1310. probably not.

  1311. We'll probably

  1312. just get there

  1313. and that song

  1314. I can only

  1315. imagine I

  1316. know I

  1317. won't be on

  1318. my face on

  1319. the ground

  1320. before Jesus

  1321. Christ and

  1322. all the

  1323. heartache all

  1324. the hardships

  1325. all the

  1326. difficulties that

  1327. we've gone

  1328. through in

  1329. this lifetime

  1330. they're going

  1331. to seem like

  1332. nothing compared

  1333. to being in

  1334. the presence

  1335. of Jesus

  1336. Christ.

  1337. So today

  1338. as we close

  1339. I want you

  1340. to think about

  1341. asking God

  1342. to give you

  1343. that kind of

  1344. faith

  1345. to believe

  1346. that my God

  1347. is able

  1348. but even if

  1349. he doesn't

  1350. I will not
