  1. He has done a bunch of preaching throughout his life, served as

  2. an elder, has done a lot of work in social work, is trained in

  3. that area, and has been helping us as we look at our relationship to one

  4. another as a family, but primarily doing our parenting seminar on Friday and Saturday.

  5. I believe those lessons have been recorded for those who weren't able to be here

  6. for that, but we're thankful that he's going to be teaching our Bible class this

  7. morning and also will have the sermon to follow. So turn the class over

  8. Good morning. For those who don't

  9. know me, am I too loud already, huh?

  10. 79 inches is the answer.

  11. People ask, well, how tall are you?

  12. First time I came to Texas, it was amazing

  13. because I was stepping off the aircraft

  14. and there were these 3 very sophisticated

  15. elderly ladies,

  16. and one of them turned around and asked me the question,

  17. my, my, they sure grow 'em tall in Texas, don't they?

  18. And I responded, well, ma'am, frankly, this is my first time

  19. in Texas and I'm from Virginia, and so far I haven't seen

  20. a tall Texan yet.

  21. And she said, oh, oh my, well, welcome to Texas.

  22. But we're glad to be in, in Kentucky,

  23. glad to be back here at this great congregation,

  24. glad to see your smiling faces. For those who attended

  25. for the seminar Thank you. And for those

  26. who were not at the seminar,

  27. welcome. Some of the things that we have to say

  28. will be repetitious to some, important to others,

  29. and challenging for the most part to many.

  30. Reading a quote: When little people are overwhelmed

  31. by big emotions, it is our job

  32. to share our calm not our chaos with

  33. our children. This reinforces emotional

  34. stability, and it gives them a sense of

  35. calm and ease

  36. knowing that God is in control and

  37. that their parents aren't really crazy as I seem to

  38. be because they're not joining me in my chaos.

  39. And life goes on. Today we want to talk

  40. about the benefits of

  41. the Christian family. These are some terms

  42. that we covered introducing the biblical

  43. dynamics of the, of the family. There are 6

  44. dynamic ones beginning As

  45. it relates to God providing the family,

  46. the family just didn't show up one day.

  47. God is the giver of family,

  48. beginning with mom and dad, and gifts in

  49. the form of two-legged children that

  50. will challenge each and every one of us from time to time.

  51. The bubble, the protective feature of the family,

  52. is so important also. Many of you remember

  53. fond and lasting memories in

  54. the bubble of your family, in the protection of your family.

  55. There are boundaries. We discussed the boundaries, the parameters being

  56. the Scriptures, based upon submission to God.

  57. And folks, the part that many have trouble with,

  58. it seems— not all, but some— the

  59. behavior stage for all

  60. of us, not just our children but also parents.

  61. You know, if parents misbehave with their children,

  62. no wonder children are crazy as you think that they are.

  63. You know, I had a— I had some crazy parents.

  64. Yeah, I was— got a little crazy too. But thank

  65. God there was something that could comb through that craziness to

  66. weed out the things that I didn't need and to

  67. help fortify the things that I really needed.

  68. It was the gospel of Jesus Christ. In Romans 1:16,

    Romans 1:16

  69. Paul says, for I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Why?

  70. It's the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believed, to Jew

  71. first and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of

  72. God revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, the just shall

  73. live by faith. 4 reasons why we never ought to be ashamed

  74. of the gospel when it comes to our families and living before the world.

  75. We ought never to be ashamed of the gospel because of its origin. I know

  76. I'm off right now, but I'm coming back. Because of its origin.

  77. The gospel originated with God. Didn't originate with man.

  78. We trust it to teach our and train our children.

  79. We use the gospel to help reproduce a world

  80. of faithful Christians that the world may be a brighter place because

  81. we're the lights of God's people, Matthew 5:16-17.

    Matthew 5:16–17

  82. And so we are not to be ashamed of the gospel because of its

  83. origin. Not to be ashamed of the gospel

  84. because of its operation. Paul says the gospel is an operation

  85. of power. It's related

  86. to like dynamite. It could just obliterate

  87. whatever it needs to obliterate. And the biggest thing that needs to be obliterated

  88. in our day and time, folks, is a word that starts

  89. with an S and it hisses— sin. Isn't that right?

  90. The gospel can remove that. So whatever

  91. problems we have in our families, the gospel can help to comb it out and

  92. fortify what's left. So I'm not ashamed

  93. of the gospel as a member of God's family because

  94. of the operation of the gospel. I'm not

  95. ashamed of the gospel because of its outreach. The gospel

  96. reaches out to all family members. Whether on

  97. the earth or in my household, the gospel we

  98. are amenable to. There's not a person here that's exempt

  99. from the call of the gospel as

  100. it relates to becoming a member of the family of God. We've— and I'm not

  101. ashamed of that. I'm glad to know that I can relate to you this morning

  102. because of the gospel of Jesus Christ, regardless of how short you

  103. are or how tall you are or what you look like.

  104. And so I'm not ashamed of the gospel because

  105. of its outcome. Paul says the gospel

  106. and its outcome is salvation.

  107. Isn't that what we want for our children?

  108. Isn't that what we want for our grandchildren, for generations yet

  109. unborn? We want them to be saved.

  110. We don't have a magic wand, but we do have a

  111. mighty story to tell to our children,

  112. to each other. And so we have the gospel

  113. to help to curb our behavior as parents

  114. as we submit to it and apply it to ourselves first

  115. and to our children. There's the benefit,

  116. which is what we're going to talk about this morning. You didn't think I'd get

  117. there, did you? The benefit. One day your children are

  118. going to grow up and guess what? They're going to leave home.

  119. And some of you folks will say, well, then I'm going to get

  120. into basket weaving because I'm going to call myself a what? An empty

  121. what? An empty nester.

  122. I didn't do that. I celebrated. I did.

  123. My wife celebrated more so than I did. I hope my daughter don't

  124. see this. You know why? We could finally

  125. get our house clean again. Say amen when you can.

  126. And we could take all of that stuff— high

  127. school, private school,

  128. kindergarten, those Disney things and stuff—

  129. and just box them up and say, here, sweetheart, take this

  130. with you. We're glad that you can

  131. come back and see us, but take all of that with you.

  132. Dad needs the space. No, Mom needs the space.

  133. Dad has a study, but Mom's gonna get a study now.

  134. You're gone, you're promoted. We did our

  135. job. Isn't that right?

  136. If you're honest, you'll do this. That's right.

  137. Oh, we're gonna miss you. And just to let you know,

  138. we're gonna give you a bus token so you can come back and visit whenever

  139. you want to. And she does. She called us

  140. the other— I guess it was last night. Mom, I'm at your house.

  141. Guess what I'm doing? Washing clothes. Why?

  142. Dad didn't fix the dryer yet. Okay. What does

  143. the dryer have to do with her washing clothes at my house?

  144. Wash your clothes and bring them— oh no, Dad, it's easy if I just bring

  145. it all over to your house. You know, it's a nice laundromat you have.

  146. I don't have one like that. So you still get the joy of promotion.

  147. We'll also talk about the byproducts. I know the bell's gonna ring before long,

  148. so let me get, get with this. There's the benefit of Christian parenting.

  149. You know, Rebecca,

  150. the Bible says her sister said

  151. to her— she's— well, it says, and they blessed Rebecca

  152. and said to her, our sister, may you become the mother of thousands of

  153. 10 thousands, and may your descendants possess the gates of

  154. those who hate them.

  155. Isaac was on a mission. Rebecca was the target.

  156. When it was time for her to go, she left. Why?

  157. Promotion. She left the household. She was prepared

  158. by her parents to go on a mission,

  159. to live her life, to leave,

  160. cleave, and achieve for God and for her

  161. family. That's what promotion's all about. There's a benefit

  162. in promotion evangelistically. You know, we have a problem sometimes in the Lord's church.

  163. Elders, we talk about this a lot. How can we get

  164. more families to come and be a part of the body of Christ?

  165. But the unique problem with that is when your

  166. young mothers will

  167. say, one day I want my son

  168. or my daughter to grow up and marry what kind of a Christian?

  169. Starts with an F. Faithful Christian. Well, where are

  170. you going to find it? Where are you going to find faithful Christians?

  171. In the Lord's church, right? Well, why do they go other places?

  172. You know why they go to other places? Because when they look in the Lord's

  173. church, what kind of people are there for them to date,

  174. marry, and talk to? For the most part,

  175. well, where we are, we have a lot of old people. We have a lot

  176. of kids. But I don't want my 20-some-year-old

  177. daughter dating a 57-year-old dude.

  178. I don't want that.

  179. Compatibility issues. Many compatibility

  180. issues crop up because many

  181. congregations are not reproducing people

  182. from the world. They're not seeking and saving the lost.

  183. And we began to look around and say, well, who is

  184. that to date? I might as well send them here or

  185. there or something like that. And we lose, we lose our kids,

  186. or we lose the benefit of

  187. having to celebrate Christian marriages.

  188. I want to challenge this congregation to continue to be evangelistic

  189. I tell my daughter all the time, if you want a Christian man,

  190. if you want to marry a Christian man, you're going to have to help cultivate

  191. one. You have to go out there along with the rest of us,

  192. seek and save the lost,

  193. evangelize. 2 Timothy 2 and verse 2, the things that you heard of me,

  194. the same commit thou to faithful men who shall be able to

  195. teach others also. The who shall be able to teach others also.

  196. That's our responsibility as parents and

  197. as candidates looking for a Christian husband or a

  198. Christian wife.

  199. I've got to be in a teaching position, not just in a dating position.

  200. Many of us are just in a dating position. You think it's just gonna fall

  201. out of the sky, boom, there he is.

  202. And Lord help the poor fellow who first gets here,

  203. you know, he's new, he's maybe going to the university here or something like

  204. that. Handsome young man told his girlfriend back home he'll see

  205. her in the, you know, next semester and stuff. And all of our eligible

  206. candidates, whoop, jump on him like, how you doing?

  207. Hey, come on, let's go eat and do this. That's fine, nothing wrong with that.

  208. College students, you're here, you know what I'm talking about.

  209. That's great, but we have to

  210. make sure that we can leaven

  211. the church by keeping our eyes on the prize.

  212. As I said on, I guess it was Friday night,

  213. maybe it was yesterday, I don't remember now, but we

  214. have to have the priority of viewing God's

  215. creation as souls that

  216. happen to be in a body rather than

  217. a beautiful body that happens to have a soul.

  218. What does a man profit if he should gain the whole world and lose his

  219. own soul? The church

  220. must grow evangelistically,

  221. and that leaven is not just going out in

  222. the community, but it takes place right here in our families.

  223. The father, who is the initiator of love in the family,

  224. is the primary disciple maker. Parents are the primary disciple makers for

  225. their children. And if you disciple your children

  226. properly, they will grow up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

  227. And they will have an evangelistic attitude about

  228. others that they see compatible, and they will target

  229. people to try to teach them the gospel, of which they are not ashamed

  230. of. And the church can grow that way also. So we talk

  231. about the benefit of God's family from the standpoint of evangelism,

  232. from the church going out and and from the

  233. family teaching within. And when we do

  234. that, we have a plethora of opportunities for

  235. having compatible candidates for our children,

  236. and we won't have to be

  237. so worried, which is something you shouldn't do,

  238. Philippians 4:6,

    Philippians 4:6

  239. and overly concerned about those things. Let God do

  240. what God's gonna do. Well, let me move

  241. on. I'm running out of time. Matrimonially, Christians marry Christians

  242. to propagate the legacy. Oh, young people,

  243. if I could only tell you some horror stories.

  244. You won't listen to 'em, so I won't tell you that.

  245. But one of the great truths of it all is There's

  246. a great benefit when Christians marry Christians and

  247. they submit to God's will. Ephesians 5:1—

    Ephesians 5:1

  248. well, the whole chapter there, basically. 5:21, submit to

  249. one another in the fear of the Lord.

  250. Because we love the Lord, we submit to one another. And to grow

  251. up like that— I told the story how Mercedes and I were first married.

  252. I was not a faithful— I was not a Christian.

  253. Well, when we got married, I was a Christian, but just before we got married,

  254. I obeyed the gospel. The first time I heard it, I obeyed it in Warner

  255. Robins, Georgia. My wife grew up in the church.

  256. She and her family had targeted me for an opportunity

  257. to teach the gospel to.

  258. It wasn't difficult for me. I was already enamored by everything

  259. that I saw in her. But spiritually,

  260. my appetite was satisfied with what I heard.

  261. The words ring true in Romans 10:17,

    Romans 10:17

  262. therefore faith comes by hearing and

  263. hearing by the Word of God. I heard the Word of God, I obeyed

  264. the Word of God, got married about,

  265. not too many days afterwards.

  266. We subscribed to the New Testament, to the Bible,

  267. to help resolve any difficulties that we had.

  268. It was a little hard at first, but thank God

  269. for our church family that supported us,

  270. for loving elders who took care of us and shepherded

  271. us. The benefit of

  272. promotion socially then— the world needs lights.

  273. And the lights of the world are brothers and sisters

  274. in Christ who love one another. Fathers and mothers

  275. in love with God affirming it with a great

  276. yes is what family's all about. We are the light

  277. of the world. The world will not be changed

  278. by someone else. It has to be God's

  279. people. Economically, the world

  280. will be changed. The benefit of the Christian family,

  281. their sense of stewardship, it started when they first married

  282. and had their first child. God gave them,

  283. entrusted them a precious gift.

  284. Children are gifted by God.

  285. They are not TCK,

  286. trophy case kids. Trophy case kids

  287. are kids that are enamored with materialism because their parents

  288. treat them like they are material. They pull them out of the cage

  289. when they want to, or out of the trophy case when they want to,

  290. and they show them around. They put them back in the trophy case from time

  291. to time, and they will give them a little money or some more gaming action

  292. stuff to keep them satisfied while they go and do their thing.

  293. Thing. That's poor stewardship. Christian parenting

  294. is about stewardship in the fear

  295. of God, where we view

  296. our kids as God does.

  297. They are the precious gift from God. We talked

  298. more about that in Psalm 127. As arrows in

  299. the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of our youth.

  300. Blessed is the man who has his quiver— what?

  301. Full of them. That means all of them. You know,

  302. all of our kids a little different, isn't that right?

  303. Raise your hand if you have a favorite child. Don't do it, don't do it.

  304. You violate the gift of the quiver. The gift

  305. of the quiver says I have no favorite children unless

  306. it's all of them. Isn't that right?

  307. You're looking at me funny, let me move on. Morally,

  308. that's Christian compliance. Because Christians

  309. submit to the will of God, they are

  310. least likely— I'm not saying that it's unlikely,

  311. but they are least likely to

  312. commit heinous immoral acts

  313. and atrocities in the world. That's the kind of person

  314. I kind of want to be married to. I don't want to

  315. be married to a serial killer Mercedes. I don't want

  316. to be married to a serial killer. Do you?

  317. God says Christians are

  318. some of the greatest people on the face of the earth because of their morals,

  319. because of their sense of stewardship, economics,

  320. because of their influence socially,

  321. because of their family matrimonially.

  322. They have a legacy. They're not looking for something temporary.

  323. And they help to grow the world for God evangelistically

  324. like leaven. And spiritually,

  325. Christian maturity. I want to marry someone who

  326. is mature in the faith, who is growing in the faith.

  327. None of us have arrived, believe me, but 2 Peter

    2 Peter 3:18

  328. 3:18, we're growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and

  329. Savior Jesus Christ. Spiritual growth and spiritual

  330. maturity is what is benefited

  331. by being a part of, of the Christian family.

  332. Our altar is in our home And

  333. it goes out of the house into our worship on the Lord's Day.

  334. It goes into the office on Monday through Friday.

  335. It goes wherever we go. It goes with us on vacation.

  336. I don't put my spirituality aside because I go on vacation.

  337. I'm glad to be a Christian.

  338. I'm glad to be a member of the Christian family of

  339. saints that meet all over the world because

  340. I know I can grow with them.

  341. I'm a part of their legacy. I have

  342. influence with them and they with me.

  343. They're loyal. They are good moral

  344. people and they are growing spiritually.

  345. And if I had to recommend them to my child to

  346. marry, I'd say, sic 'em! That's who you want.

  347. And that's what this seminar has been about all this week.

  348. The benefit also is about succession.

  349. The goal of family lifespan development is succession.

  350. Children grow up and become whatever you instill in them.

  351. I better say that again. Children grow up and become whatever you instill

  352. in them. There's a proverb that says,

  353. when your children are born,

  354. they resemble their parents, but when

  355. they die, they resemble their choices.

  356. What do you think of that? The goal of parenting

  357. is to remember that they become whatever you instilled in them.

  358. And I go back to the quote that I said, that I began with: when

  359. little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it is our

  360. job to share our calm with

  361. them and not our chaos, because one

  362. day They're gonna have to be discerning about

  363. life after you're gone.

  364. And whatever they— you've echoed in their ears,

  365. it's going to be what their choices have eventuated

  366. into being. So my question,

  367. will their structure hold based upon submitting

  368. to God? Will they be secure based upon

  369. living in the bubble of security in your house?

  370. Will they submit to the Scriptures because we started early

  371. with them? I talked about the cradle roll.

  372. I love cradle roll. Now, I don't— I don't normally teach

  373. in cradle roll, folks, I'll tell you that. I don't want to I don't want

  374. to scare them little babies.

  375. But Jesus loves me. I learned that in cradle roll.

  376. The B-I-B-L-E, cradle roll.

  377. And God is alive and God loves me, cradle roll.

  378. Put your babies in cradle roll.

  379. Let them learn submission early on.

  380. And you continue to work on your submission,

  381. and your family will improve drastically.

  382. Will they succeed in a family? Will your kids

  383. be promoted into society and

  384. make a mark for Jesus? Will they glorify God

  385. in all that they say and all that they do because of what you told

  386. them? Will they be suitable for someone to marry based

  387. upon what we've taught them? What questions

  388. might you have? That was quick.

  389. Here's the byproduct of families. In Genesis 2:24,

    Genesis 2:24

  390. a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,

  391. and they shall become one flesh. The byproducts of procreation

  392. Character, suitability. Believe because of submission.

  393. That's your faith. We talked about that in Romans 10:17.

    Romans 10:17

  394. Leave because of security, the fortitude of knowing that God

  395. is with me. Jesus cares for me. 1 Peter 5:7, cast all

    1 Peter 5:7

  396. your cares upon him. Why? Because he cares

  397. for you. I have the faith and

  398. the fortitude to walk anywhere in the world knowing that my God is

  399. with me. And I know that I can trust

  400. what I've been taught by my family and

  401. by the Word of God. I can take that anywhere in the world

  402. and never be ashamed because I'm a child

  403. of the King. Cleave because of the Scriptures.

  404. My fidelity— 1 Peter 4:11— I want to speak

    1 Peter 4:11

  405. as the oracles of God. Wherever I go,

  406. whatever I do. I want to have a Bible

  407. answer for a Bible question, and I want to put it

  408. in such a way that my children will always understand me.

  409. Because I am the initiator of love in that family,

  410. it's my responsibility to train them,

  411. because I'm the primary discipler of my children,

  412. not the Bible class, not the Church of Christ, but parents

  413. are the primary disciple maker of our

  414. kids. And we test the quality

  415. of their teachings when they come to Bible class. We follow

  416. up on what they've been teaching. We make sure

  417. that they're being enhanced with God's Word

  418. and not the rhetoric the vain teachings

  419. of false philosophers and men.

  420. Achieved because of structural unity. Listen,

  421. we're family. There's nothing we can't do as God's

  422. family and as a Christian family as long as

  423. we're focused on God. I mentioned yesterday our

  424. family focus is either BK or KFC.

  425. BK. You know what BK usually stands for? Have it what?

  426. You said Burger King, but what does Burger King— what's their motto?

  427. Have it your way. Have it your way. A lot

  428. of families, they want to have it their way. You know, you do what you

  429. do, you come when you come, we don't do this. It's just do your thing,

  430. baby. You know, back in the '60s

  431. we had baby burn, baby burn, but today when they got have it your way,

  432. Well, I don't want to have it my way, because if I let my kids

  433. have it their way, you know what will happen? Don't answer, don't, don't answer,

  434. but there'll be chaos, confusion.

  435. And this is no knock against your kids,

  436. but there's a better way, and that's KFC.

  437. What's the motto of KFC? I don't know.

  438. What do you mean KFC, man? You crazy?

  439. Look at Matthew 6:33.

    Matthew 6:33

  440. Say it again.

  441. Kingdom-first Christians.

  442. Write it down. Kingdom-first Christians.

  443. KFC. Does that match with Matthew 6:33?

    Matthew 6:33

  444. Somebody do this. Does that match with Matthew

    Matthew 6:33

  445. 6:33, Neil? Okay,

  446. Hiram, does that match? Okay, if I

  447. got Hiram and Neil doing this, I think I'm okay. I trust

  448. those fellas anyway. I go to war with those fellas anytime. That's KFC.

  449. When we put the kingdom first and beckon

  450. our kids to follow us as we make that march towards heaven,

  451. The choices that we make while we live

  452. will reflect the teachings that we receive

  453. from God's Word, and it

  454. will continue to influence even after we've died.

  455. Why? The Word of God is powerful.

  456. It's alive. It quickens.

  457. Hebrews 4 and verse 12. We don't,

  458. as members of the Church of Christ, as members of a family

  459. of Christians, we don't practice Burger King

  460. leadership— do it, have it your own way philosophy.

  461. We just don't do that. We communicate to each other.

  462. We care for each other. We take time for each

  463. other. We worship to God— worship God together.

  464. We pray together, not just at the church building but at home also.

  465. We set a spiritual legacy for our kids and

  466. for ourselves that won't fade away.

  467. I'm running out of time.

  468. Byproducts— reproduction. Let me go

  469. back here. Be a disciple maker, a soul winner.

  470. Be an example. Be a hearer and doer of the Word. Be a symbol.

  471. And I've kind of pushed all this together in these frames because I'm trying

  472. to do an overview of a lot of things that I've talked about 2 days

  473. ago. And you're looking at me funny, like, man, that's a lot of material,

  474. Glenn. What else can you tell us about it? Go back, and I think they

  475. recorded some of these, but The byproduct of reproduction

  476. is twofold. It's spiritual from

  477. the standpoint of being a soul winner. Replenishing the

  478. family of God comes through soul winning, both within

  479. the family and without the family.

  480. Within the physical family, the home.

  481. Without the spiritual family, the church,

  482. we go out and seek and save the lost. But whether

  483. in the home or in the church, we're to be symbols

  484. doing what we read and study, being doers

  485. of the Word and not hearers only. Practicing what you preach.

  486. And the world knows the difference. And guess what?

  487. Let me let you in on this little secret. Your kids

  488. know the difference too. Your kids

  489. know if you are a doer and a hearer,

  490. and they know if you're just a hearer of the word also. You do it

  491. because I say so, not because I, you know— kids

  492. are smart. They know us.

  493. So here are 5 takeaways that I presented yesterday.

  494. Our purpose of existence as parents is to

  495. disciple our children.

  496. Deuteronomy 6, Ephesians 6 both gives the

  497. outline, gives the authority for

  498. us doing that. You do it regularly, you do it consistently,

  499. you do it from the standpoint of glorifying God.

  500. You take time to do that, and you cannot farm it

  501. out to someone else.

  502. The pattern example as parents, we're to be hearers

  503. and doers of God's word, not just

  504. grandma's word, somebody else's word. We take

  505. our lead from God. Why? Because we're KFC

  506. Christians. From the standpoint

  507. of priorities, our kids need to know that we're

  508. devoted to God and to each other and especially

  509. to them. We have to be.

  510. Providentially, each and every one of us who

  511. are KFC Christians have signed a declaration

  512. of dependence on on God's sacred oracles and

  513. are submitting to them. And in that submission,

  514. it will involve some sacrifice.

  515. In that submission, it will involve doing some things that maybe you don't

  516. feel like doing or you don't want to do, but you do it out of

  517. love for Christ. Ephesians 5:21-22.

    Ephesians 5:21–22

  518. And you do it like Christ did it for the church. He gave himself

  519. He made the sacrifice and he served the church

  520. by being head of the body, and through which we're

  521. able to have life today. As initiators of love

  522. in the family, as the head of the house where I reside,

  523. it's my job to make sure that I'm that living sacrifice

  524. for my family, that I'm serving my family,

  525. And I'm doing it in word and in deed because

  526. I've signed a declaration of dependency on

  527. God. It may not always feel right.

  528. I may not like it sometimes, but I do it because I've signed

  529. a declaration of dependence on God, with God,

  530. as I prepare them for eternity. And again,

  531. one day, I don't know when, and this

  532. zip code will no longer exist. The elements

  533. shall be burnt up,

  534. and the only thing left will be a legacy.

  535. How did I train my children?

  536. They looked like me at birth. Will their choices

  537. resemble me in death?

  538. These are the 6 dynamic features that we discussed

  539. this weekend of the Christian family.

  540. I haven't heard the bell yet, so I'm ready for questions.

  541. Well, the other matter that

  542. I want to say to you is parenting has never been

  543. easy, and you know that. But what

  544. makes it pleasurable is the fact that I have folks that I can lean upon.

  545. In the Lord's church, we have a network that

  546. we can lean upon. Sometimes I call it the SWAT network.

  547. I may say more about that later.

  548. We have godly men and women in this

  549. congregation that really do care

  550. for you.

  551. And you should not act as though your problem

  552. is bigger than their solution, than God's solution.

  553. God is faithful,

  554. and he's not willing that any should perish.

  555. But we can find a solution to our problems.

  556. You may say, yeah, preacher, but you don't understand my problem.

  557. Oh, I mentioned life has 3 problems:

  558. guilt, grief,

  559. and the grave. Jesus is the answer

  560. to all 3 of those problems. And representing

  561. Jesus Christ here on this earth are the scriptures

  562. and the body of Christ. And brethren,

  563. I, I'm, I'm honest enough to tell you, I believe that between the scriptures

  564. and my brethren in Christ, we can help you to find a solution to your

  565. problem. But you're going to have to come.

  566. You're going to have to yield. You're going to have to submit.

  567. Submit to your elders. Submit to someone that you trust

  568. talk to, because this old world won't

  569. give you the answers. Look around you.

  570. 1 John 2:15,

    1 John 2:15

  571. lust of the flesh, addictions.

  572. Lust of the eye, attractions. The pride

  573. of life, ambitions. Your ambitions, your addictions,

  574. And your attractions can be a problem for you.

  575. But Jesus has an answer. The antidote to addictions,

  576. attractions, and ambitions is

  577. a submissive knowledge of the Word

  578. of God. And it will not fail you.

  579. But you have to come humbly and submissively,

  580. recognizing that you're not stupid,

  581. you're not dumb, you just need some help from time to

  582. time. That's why God placed his

  583. body, and part of that body has hands to receive those

  584. who are in need. I thank God for

  585. the Lord's church. I thank God for you.

  586. You, the Lord's people, took me

  587. in at a time when I don't think anybody else would have

  588. me and taught me a pattern

  589. example of what parenting should be about.

  590. Oh, I'm nowhere near perfect. I'm just still broken-down old Hitchcock,

  591. but my daughter will tell you I

  592. had fun growing up. My parents were old.

  593. She went to the Christian school and she knew the Motown sounds

  594. and records before the teachers. The teachers said, what is that? Mercedes said, well,

  595. those are— you know, she grew up with old parents.

  596. Nothing wrong with that, but life was

  597. a legacy of love and learning,

  598. and that's all we're doing. Creating a legacy of love where

  599. we can learn together how to go to heaven together,

  600. because that's what it's all about. Thank you
