Man's Relation to Animals (Instruments of Judgement) - Pastor Bruce Mejia

Amen.

Okay, we're in Leviticus chapter 26.

Leviticus 26 · chapter mention

Tonight, look down at your Bibles at verse 21.

It says, If you walk contrary unto me and will not hearken unto me, I will bring seven

times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

I will also send wild beasts among you which shall rob you of your children and destroy

your cattle and make you few in number and your highways shall be desolate.

Here in Leviticus chapter 26, we find a very extensive list of things that will come upon

the people of God if they disobey God, if they rebel against the Lord.

And it's just kind of God threatening his people with various punishments that he can

impose upon them for their rebellion.

And one of them is that he will send wild beasts to kill them, to kill their children,

to kill their cattle.

It seems very extreme, but this is actually something we find throughout the Bible.

And we're going to come back to this later on in this sermon.

Go with him to 1 Corinthians chapter 9.

First Corinthians chapter 9, we're picking up tonight where we left off this morning.

1 Corinthians 9 · chapter mention

The title of the sermon is Man's Relation to Animals.

We went over part one this morning, tonight is part two.

And let me just give you a little bit of review from this morning in case you forgot

or were not here.

Of course, we talked about the fact that animals play a significant role in the

Bible.

God esteems animals.

He values animals.

And there's a lot in the Bible to say about creatures that God created.

We said, number one, that animals are not an afterthought in the mind of God.

We never want to have this attitude that because maybe you've heard some bad

story of some animal attack or people that esteem animals more than human

beings, that somehow we should despise the creation.

No, we have to realize that God esteems creatures.

He cares for them.

He's created an atmosphere and an ecosystem conducive to their reproduction

so we can feed them and use them.

And of course, God wants us to behold these creatures and glorify him because

of it, right?

And I'm sure all of us have seen some sort of creature on the Discovery

Channel, on Instagram.

And we looked at him and we're like, man, that thing is awesome, right?

You've seen these octopuses that, or is it octopi?

I don't know how you say it.

We see these octopuses that basically can change colors and even try to mimic

the creatures that are around them.

There's even one in, I believe it's Indonesia, where they discovered this

octopus that not only camouflages itself according to whatever background it's

in, but it's also able to mimic a lot of the creatures.

And in fact, new species of animals have been discovered because of the

mimicking nature of this octopus.

And I look at something like that, I'm like, man, praise God that you would

create such an incredible creature.

I like to, I love to look at God's creation and just marvel at the creator,

right?

Marvel that he has such a creative, you know, nature about him to make

these animals and have us stand in awe of that.

And so he cares for the creatures.

He created them prior to creating mankind.

Doesn't mean that they are somehow superior to man.

It just means that they hold an important aspect in God's plan,

especially when he created a sinless world.

He made all creatures and he said that all things were good.

We also said that animals are inferior to mankind and should be

dominated by man, okay?

You know, this is why it's important for us to realize that we should

be advocates of tearing down the forest and building buildings there, right?

Like, oh no, you know, we shouldn't get rid of these forests and all

these, this is where the animals live.

And there's so many animals that need that.

Yeah, but we are more important than them.

And if we need more buildings, we need places to live.

We need places to shop, tear it down and build up cities, build up buildings,

build up whatever is necessary for a society to, if you need to thrive.

And so it's important for us to realize that that's God's will for our

lives, okay?

And in fact, you know, in the Bible, when a part of a signaling

that God's judgment has come upon a city is when animals begin to take

over actually.

You know, anytime God would judge a particular nation and make it desolate,

part of the punishment, part of the curse is that animals would begin to

inhabit the cities and the houses that once belonged to mankind.

And that was an indication that God was punishing that particular nation.

And so God wants us to dominate the creatures.

We see that in Genesis chapter one.

And we talked about a couple of things in that regard.

Number one under that was that the life of an animal should never be

prioritized over the life of a human.

You know, kill Harambe, save the baby, nuke the whales, whatever, you know,

kill the whatever creature that has threatened the human being.

And if it has gored a person, if it has injured an individual,

they need to be put down, right?

And what's interesting is that, you know, after the sermon, or

after the sermon on Sunday morning, someone came up to me.

You know, because we've got a lot of animal lovers in our church, you know?

But someone came up to me and said, you know what?

I actually own a lot of, or a good amount of dogs.

And, you know, I love dogs, but you're absolutely right about that.

They're like, I had this dog, and he named the type of dog or whatever.

And it's just this massive dog with a huge head.

And it was just like, it was a great dog.

But it started attacking my other animals.

It started biting my other dogs.

And then it started kind of like being aggressive towards us.

Like it started growling, becoming like as if it was going to attack us.

And he said, the moment it did that, I was like, this thing's got to go, right?

This thing has got to go.

Because here's the thing, folks, it's an animal, and

it's always looking to dominate you.

So you've got to make sure you assert your dominance, your authority over

that creature.

And good thing he did get rid of that because of the fact that that does

happen, it can happen.

You can't necessarily trust animals all the time.

They are animals.

They don't have a moral compass.

They are trained to be a certain way.

And so don't be dumb.

If you own a creature that is known to bite and attack people,

attack you or whatever, it's time to get rid of your little puppy or whatever.

And so why?

Well, because the life of an animal should never be prioritized over the

safety in the life of a human being, OK?

Man is more important than the animal.

We also said that animals, what is the purpose of animals?

Well, aside from bringing glory to God, right?

We obviously know that's the purpose there.

But animals are made to improve man's quality of life.

Animals just improve my quality of life just about an hour ago.

I was back there.

By the way, I want to say thank you to brother Jose, brother Alex,

and brother Mark Barfield for making great meats back there.

You know, pecania, you guys missed out if you didn't get a chance to go.

There are salmon, pecania, pork butt, meat, drinks, and diverse washings.

It was amazing.

It was awesome.

And they essentially manifested by point here

that animals improve our quality of life, right?

Ate all kinds of meats, got all the protein, filled my stomach up.

They did not muzzle the ox to tread it out the corn.

And so thank you guys for doing that.

You know, that's what animals are for.

And I'm not saying go home and eat your dog.

I'm saying like in general, animals, the purpose of animals is to consume.

That's what God specifically said, that that's what they're made for.

Now look, you know, in the tribulation, you know what I mean?

You're not taking the mark of the beast.

You can't do it because you're saved.

And you know, you got your little dog there and you know,

got 75 days of great tribulation.

You might have to, you know, cook that thing and eat it, okay?

And so I'm not encouraging you to do that.

You know, there's Chinese people who are like,

we don't need the tribulation for that, you know?

So they're made to improve the quality of life

by giving us food and amusement and entertainment.

So animals are there so that we can, you know,

observe them, enjoy them, watch them,

see how they eat, how they function, how they live,

be in all of their creation.

And so zoos are very much, you know, a biblical thing.

You have Solomon who owned apes and peacocks.

He would import all these exotic animals

just for his enjoyment to tame them and show them off

before his 700 concubines or whatever and do that.

And you know what?

That's exactly what they're for.

It's for us to observe, to enjoy

and to glorify God because of it.

And then lastly we said that they are important

because of the fact that they improve our quality of life

through food, entertainment and companionship.

So here's your justification to have your pet, amen.

You know, if you like dogs, you're like cats,

you like whatever, and you're like,

oh man, is it wrong?

Is it sin?

No, you know, they actually do provide companionship,

but here's the important aspect of that point

is that they are not to substitute human companionship.

Okay?

You know, you should not relate to an animal

more than you would relate to a human being, okay?

And you know, obviously people can often become

very close to and affectionate with animals.

They love their dog.

They love their cat.

They love their whatever animal they have.

But you never wanna become this weirdo

where it's just like, well, you know,

this is enough for me.

I don't need friends.

People are just weird.

I relate more to this dog than I do.

Really?

Cause the dog eats its own crap.

So it eats its own vomit.

It uses the restroom everywhere.

It can't speak English.

And it's kinda weird that that's what you would relate to, okay?

Oh, I just think, I just feel more connected to it.

Well, reprobates feel connected to animals too.

I don't think you would want to have that type of affection.

You know, we need to realize that there needs to be

an appropriate companionship with animals,

but that it will never replace your friendships

with your family and other people and God's people.

Of course, I'm obviously speaking to Christians.

So we need them for food, entertainment and companionship.

And so that's important.

And we obviously know that, you know,

God gave us animals for food and coverings.

We see that in Genesis chapter three,

when we went over that, we talked about Solomon importing

the exotic animals and so forth.

Now let's get into the point number three.

I started this in the morning,

but I'm gonna go through it right now.

And that is that animals are meant to illustrate

spiritual truths.

So another purpose that animals have in our lives

is that you could actually observe them

and they have a certain function

that could actually teach us an actual spiritual truth,

to teach us character and godly attributes

that God will want us to learn.

And in fact, he spends much of the book of Proverbs

talking about animals, telling us how not to be

like slothful people, sluggards, right?

But also teaching us to be like the diligent animals

as well.

And we talked about that.

We talked about going to the ant thou sluggard

instead of being lazy and not working

and not doing anything that you would observe the ant

and see how diligent that ant actually is.

It puts in work.

He lifts heavier than his own size.

He gets the job done.

He's reliable.

He's sacrificial.

And he foresees evil, meaning that he knows

that he's gonna need food in the harvest.

Therefore he prepares in the summer.

These are some great qualities that we can learn

from animals and creatures and insects and so forth.

Now here's another example.

Before we get into 1 Corinthians chapter nine,

Proverbs 26 gives us a picture of a dog

returning to his vomit and saying soulful

return it to his folly.

So we make fun of the dog and we're like,

ah, look at this stupid dog.

He just threw up and now he's eating his own vomit.

Yeah, but that's what you do

when you go back to your own sin.

So when you get right with God

and you're not sinning anymore,

you're like, oh, I don't drink alcohol.

I don't smoke weed.

I don't fornicate.

But if you go back to that,

you're as filthy as the dog that returns back to his vomit.

So just as disgusted as you should be,

by the dog, eating its own throw up,

well, in like manner, God's saying

you should feel the same way

when you go back to your own sin.

Okay, soulful return it back to his folly.

So just as we laugh and are disgusted,

at the same time, God kind of is disgusted with us

when we return back to our folly as well.

And obviously that passage of scripture is there

to kind of prevent us from doing so, okay?

Prevent us from going back to whatever vice,

whatever sin that we're tempted with,

whatever ideology, whatever it may be.

You know, whatever you're enticed with,

God's saying don't be like the dog

that returns back to his vomit.

Make sure that you abstain from that sin.

You confess your sin, you forsake it

and you live a sanctified life before the Lord, okay?

We also see in Proverbs chapter 30,

Proverbs 30 · chapter mention

he gives us illustrations about the ants,

the locusts, locusts teaching us teamwork,

the conies, the conies are those

which build their houses upon the rocks.

Now, why does the conie do that?

Well, because of the fact that it has a lot of predators.

And so, you know, and it's very weak.

So it can't necessarily fight off its predator.

So what does it do?

It builds his house in the rocks

in order to prevent predators from actually reaching them.

And what's the spiritual application there?

Well, you know what?

We are also weak, the flesh is weak,

the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

We have an enemy known as Satan

and the way we can avoid the attacks of Satan

or overcome the attacks of Satan

is by building our house upon the rock,

which is the Lord Jesus Christ, right?

Making sure that we read the word of God,

have the word of God as our foundation and so forth.

So we have the ants, the locusts, the conies,

the spiders, the lions, the greyhounds, the goats.

All of these are given to us in order to teach us

spiritual behavior, to learn character,

diligence, boldness, and so forth, okay?

Isaiah chapter one uses the ox and the ass

recognizing their owner

in order to illustrate Israel's rebellion against God.

He's saying, how is it that the ass, the ox,

understands who's in charge,

but you, oh Israel, you, oh Judah,

are in complete rebellion to God,

even though you have the oracles of God,

you have the prophets, you have the knowledge,

yet you don't know who your Lord is.

It's a great illustration there.

Probably one of my favorite illustrations of animals

to use to teach us a spiritual truth

is in Matthew chapter 10, verse 16,

Matthew 10:16

that says to be wise as serpents

and harmless as doves.

Now keep in mind,

not every time that the Bible talks about serpents,

is it in a negative connotation?

We obviously have that idea because serpents in general

are a symbolic representation of Satan, right?

But serpents just kinda carry a connotation of being cunning.

Another word for being cunning is to be wise, okay?

So the Bible is telling us here,

hey, be wise as a serpent,

but make sure that you are harmless as a dove.

So when you're dealing with persecution,

you're dealing with people who are trying

to push your buttons,

they're trying to cause you to fight them,

they're trying to cause you to lash out,

they're trying to cause you to behave

in an un-Christian manner, just understand this,

be wise as a serpent, be cunning, be subtle,

but make sure that your subtlety

doesn't carry you off into violence or something.

You gotta be harmless as a dove, okay?

And you know, obviously I'm not perfect at this.

I don't think any man is.

I think any man here would say that if someone

just started talking trash to your face

for being a Christian and they started swinging on you,

you would probably react, right?

You probably just hook them or give them a cross

or something, knock them out, or you try to fight back.

I think that's just the natural tendency

for every man to do.

But here's the thing, folks,

the Bible tells us to be harmless as a dove, so.

And so we need to make sure we have restraint and duck,

okay?

Or take off, run away, flee from that type of confrontation.

I know we all have in our minds that we wanna be

like a hero or something, and you know,

be able to beat someone up for doing something like that.

But the Bible tells us that we need to be harmless.

The weapons of our warfare are not carnival mighty

through God to the pulling down of strongholds, okay?

And then we have another example in 2 Peter 2.22,

teaching us that reprobates are as dogs and sows

in order to illustrate their apostasy and corruption.

And so that's important to note there.

You can read that on your own.

Now, Deuteronomy 25 in verse number four

is where 1 Corinthians chapter nine,

is what 1 Corinthians chapter nine is actually quoting.

Okay?

Let me read it to you.

Deuteronomy 25 verse four says,

thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn.

Now, initially when that's written,

God is literally saying, hey, feed your ox.

Okay?

If the ox is plowing, it's working,

it's plowing the field, it's doing its job,

make sure you give it some food, right?

And that's just common sense.

You know, whatever vehicle you have,

whatever machines you use,

you need to be a good steward of that particular tool,

that vehicle, especially if it's helping you

to succeed at your job, right?

Well, in this particular case, it's the ox.

The ox needs to be taken care of.

Now, in the New Testament, this scripture is quoted

not to negate what it's actually saying regarding the ox,

but to illustrate a spiritual truth

regarding those who are laboring in the word and doctrine.

Okay?

This is also stated in 1 Corinthians chapter five,

but we're gonna look at it at 1 Corinthians nine.

Look at verse seven.

Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges?

Who planteth a vineyard,

and eateth not of the fruit thereof?

Or who feedeth the flock

and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

Sayeth these things to as a man,

or sayeth not the law the same also?

For it is written in the law of Moses,

thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox

that treadeth out the corn.

Now, the apostle Paul is making an argument here

that people who labor in the gospel

should live of the gospel.

In other words, full-time Christian workers,

pastors, evangelists, deacons,

those who are laboring in the church,

should, they merit, they earn a paycheck.

They earn to make a living off of that

if that's the work that they're doing,

especially if they're being successful at it, right?

And then he addresses Deuteronomy 25.

He says, doesn't even the law say

that you shouldn't muzzle the mouth of the ox

that treadeth out the corn?

In other words, it's just common sense

that you feed the beast who's putting in the work, right?

Then he says here,

doth God take care for oxen,

or say eat altogether for our sakes?

So the answer is, yeah,

obviously God takes care for the oxen,

but the ultimate application of that verse

is that he's applying it to New Testament spiritual truths

of allowing those who are in full-time Christian service

to live of the gospel, okay?

He says, for our sakes, no doubt, this is written,

that he that ploweth should plow in hope,

and that he that thresheth in hope

should be a partaker of his hope.

If we have sown unto you spiritual things,

is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

So what is he saying?

He's saying, look, it's just common sense

that the pastor should earn a living

if he's preaching the word of God,

people are getting saved, the church is growing,

people are being reached, then pay the man.

And look, this is important to talk about

because of the fact that

a lot of people don't have this philosophy, okay?

Now, this is not a problem here.

My church takes care of me very well,

and thank you all for taking care of me and my family

over these last nine years or whatever.

We've never had an issue with that.

And in fact, you guys take a little too good care of me,

I mean, you know, all these meats and stuff.

You guys are, you know, our church is a very generous church.

Never had anybody complain about stuff like that.

Everybody believes this here,

but it's important to talk about

because there's churches out there that don't believe that.

You know, those people are all like, oh, you know,

he should do that for free.

Yeah, he should do it for free

if his preaching sucks.

He should do it for free if no one's being reached,

the preaching sucks, no one's being edified,

no one's learning doctrine, people aren't being trained,

but you know, if people are being reached,

souls are getting saved, 500 salvations in a month,

thousands of salvation over the last couple of months,

you know, people's lives are being changed

through the word of God,

people are, visitors are coming to church,

people are being changed through the preaching

of God's worth, that man deserves a salary, okay?

He, his bills need to be paid,

he needs to be able to take care of his family

and take care of the man so he can do more for God.

So he can spend more time investing into the house of God

doing what God wants him to do,

reaching more people and growing the church.

And you know what, this was an issue, you know,

and the old IEP at times where, you know,

this is, you know, people who would have

like a deacon board or something

and they would determine like,

how much this pastor should be paid.

Bro, just pay him whatever he needs to be paid.

Don't try to look for like the least amount

you can give the man to do the work of God.

You know, this man has an important job,

you know, he's counseling people,

he's preaching the word of God,

he's teaching you the Bible,

take care of the ox that treads out the corn.

And the Bible specifically says

that some oxes are just worthy of double honor

because they're laboring in the word and doctrine,

people are growing in the church

and the knowledge of the Bible,

they're learning doctrine, they're becoming

better Christians, that merits

taking care of the man of God.

And so here we find a great application

to using an animal in order to illustrate

the spiritual truth.

Take care of the ox, don't let that thing

be all, you know, starving and everything,

missing meals, he's putting in the work in the field,

he's trending out the corn,

people are getting saved,

people are learning the Bible,

reprobates are being thrown out,

you know, the flock of God is being taken care of,

you know, everything's going great,

the children are being taught,

people are being protected,

people are learning the word of God,

people are being trained how to preach the gospel,

take care of the ox, right?

No, this is not a cry out for you to take care of me

because again, you guys already do that, right?

So I really appreciate that.

Go to Romans chapter one, if you would,

Romans chapter one, Romans chapter one,

Romans chapter one, and again,

you have churches out there just like,

well just give that man the least amount possible

and you know, let him figure it out or whatever,

that's not right to do.

And again, you know, if it's a guy

who's just like preaching a 15 minute sermon head

every week, you know, a 20 minute sermon head,

you're not really learning anything,

the church is absolutely empty,

it's just him, his family,

and maybe a couple of people

sprinkle throughout the building or whatever,

and it's not really growing, you know, okay,

Pastor, you're gonna have to start,

you know, get on social media or something,

start making some content,

start going viral,

start getting people in the church,

start putting it in the work, right?

You know, tread that field, work that field.

And so I get it, you know,

if there's a church out there like that,

where the pastor's not really laboring,

okay, what do you expect, you know?

Can't expect your church to take care of you

if there's no one in the church to take care of you, right?

How do you expect to earn the salary

if you ain't reaching nobody?

And the people you are reaching,

they're not staying because they're not growing, okay?

And so animals, back to the subject of animals,

they are created or are meant to illustrate

spiritual truths and provide practical applications to man.

And I would encourage you to just do

a topical study in the Bible regarding animals.

It's fascinating what the Bible has to say

as far as the application of these creatures are concerned.

All right, let's move on to the next point here.

Regarding animals, and that is that

worshiping animals precedes degeneracy, okay?

So God wants us to behold the animal

and be like, man, that lion is awesome.

Like praise God for that,

that God created such a beautiful creature, you know?

And you know, I'll be honest with you,

I don't think all creatures are beautiful, you know?

Rats aren't really beautiful to me.

I don't really think rats are,

I don't think opossums are beautiful

or those things are ugly, especially when the mama

has all the babies on top, it just looks nasty, you know?

I don't consider spiders beautiful.

Maybe some of you do, you know?

I'm not a big fan of snakes, especially just,

I don't have a phobia, I just don't like them, okay?

Especially now during the summer,

they're just popping out of nowhere

and you just worry sometimes, right?

But there are creatures out there

that I'm just like, man, look at this bird.

This bird is just absolutely beautiful.

I think of one particular bird from Guatemala,

which is the national bird, it's called the Quetzal.

It's extremely beautiful bird.

It's a green bird with a red chest, a long tail

and when it flies in the air,

it looks almost like a serpent

because of the tail that kind of, you know,

moves like a serpent, just a beautiful creature.

And so, you know, there's nothing wrong

with actually observing animals and saying,

man, this is such a beautiful creation of God.

God is just amazing, he's so powerful, he's so creative.

And so, you know, may animals cause you

to worship God, right?

Not cause you to worship the animals.

They're like, oh man, these animals are so good,

they're so much better than us, right?

And look, I'm gonna tell you right now

is that when you find a society that worships animals,

just mark it down, it's a society

that is a reprobate nation.

It's a godless nation, okay?

I mean, look at all the false religions of the world

and how much they worship serpents.

They worship cows, right?

In India, they were literally starved,

even though you got a good, you know,

four by four walking by, right?

You got pecania walking by,

you got all this good food walking by

and they're just like, we're just dying of starvation.

Yeah, cause you're eating dung instead of cows.

You're choosing to eat garbage

and I'm not joking with you, this is what they do.

They choose to eat garbage and filth and literal dung

instead of killing that cow

and making some good food out of that thing, right?

Oh man, how can you say God exists with all this evil?

Look at all these people that are starving.

Oh, you mean the people who rather eat dung than a cow?

That's their fault.

They have food walking around them all the time.

Yeah, but they believe it's their ancestors.

That's nonsense.

You say, what are their ancestors?

It's called hell.

Because if they believe what they believe,

they've split hell wide open.

Oh, you know, you're just so insensitive.

It's just the truth.

People will literally live and die in India,

never getting to taste the deliciousness of a ribeye.

What a shame.

All because of a false religion, my friends.

All because of a stupid religion

that tells them to abstain from meats.

Just be like this for the rest of their life,

thinking that they've obtained some sort of spiritual

aptitude of just being the best

because they can keep their hand like this

for 40 years or whatever,

never eat meat and just die and go to hell

and they can finally lower their hands or whatever.

It's nonsense, but this is what false religion does.

Now look at Romans 1 verse 20,

Romans 1:20

for the invisible things of him

from the creation of the world are clearly seen.

Being understood by the things that are made,

even his eternal power and Godhead,

so that they are without excuse.

This is basically saying that creation

testifies that God exists.

They're clearly seen.

You look at the heavens,

you look at the forest,

you look at the animals

and you're just like a creator made this.

That alone can't save you,

but it testifies of the power of God, of a creator.

You don't look at it and be like,

man, this all came from promoting a soup.

No, you look at it and be like,

intelligent design is involved here, okay?

And the Bible says so they are without excuse.

So even if the pygmy dies and goes to hell,

because supposedly he never got the gospel, guess what?

The reason he never got the gospel

is because he rejected the fact

that creation testified to the creator.

He's without excuse.

He knows that this testifies of a creator.

He knows that all life and all of creation

testifies that God exists and he rejected that.

Therefore, the gospel didn't go to him, okay?

And he has YouTube anyway,

so he hears about Jesus all the time.

Verse 21 says,

because that when they knew God,

they glorified him not as God,

neither were thankful,

but became vain in their imaginations

and their foolish heart was darkened.

This is basically saying

that when they look at the creation,

they know that God exists.

What do they do?

They choose not to glorify him.

They're like, oh no, all this was made by a raindrop

that fell into the ocean and created Japan, you know?

Just some stupid story out there.

What does that call?

It's called being vain in your imagination, right?

It's a nonsensical, you know,

fable that doesn't exist.

That people created their minds

in order to excuse God away, okay?

Their foolish heart was darkened,

meaning that light is removed from them.

The truth begins to be removed

because they can't even accept

the most fundamental beliefs of just humanity

that there is a creator based on this creation.

He says,

professing themselves to be wise,

they became fools.

And I want you to notice this

and change the glory of the uncorruptible God

into an image made like to corruptible man

and to birds and four-footed beast and creeping things.

So what happens when a person

rejects the creation as being the byproduct of a creator?

They begin to worship creatures.

They begin to worship birds, four-footed beast

and creeping things the Bible says.

So they start looking at animals

and saying this is our ancestor.

Don't eat it.

It belongs to our ancestor.

that when a person rejects the initial lie

and plain sight regarding demonic entities

And the Bible says that when they begin to do that,

they begin to serve the creature more than the creator.

And so this is the progression

Turn with me if you would, go to Exodus 22, Exodus 22.

Take ye therefore good heat unto yourselves,

for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day

that the Lord spake unto you in horror,

the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

the likeness of any beast is on the earth,

the likeness of any winged fowl that flyeth in the air,

the likeness of anything that creepeth on the ground,

So he's basically saying, hey, you know,

the progression here is that when someone begins

to reject the God of the Bible,

they're tempted to become these creature worshiping

type people and they begin to make images and idols

out of these animals.

Second King, 17, verse 16 says this,

and they left all the commandments

of the Lord their God and made them molten images,

listen to this, even two calves and made a grove

and worship all the hosts of heaven and served Baal.

So what happened to Israel when they would forsake God?

They worship calves, they worship animals, right?

As soon as Moses goes up to meet with God,

they think that he's not gonna come back,

what do they do?

They make a golden calf.

They start worshiping animals.

And what does it lead them into?

Degeneracy, start taking off their clothes

and worshiping false gods and saying,

this be your gods that brought you out of the land of Egypt

and start acting abominably before the Lord.

In Ezekiel chapter eight, for example,

when Ezekiel is grabbed by the hair from the Lord

in spirit and he shows them the greater abominations,

he digs through a hole and what does he see?

Just people worshiping creatures, creeping things

in secret.

Why?

Because worshiping animals precedes degeneration.

That's what people begin to do

when they reject the God of the Bible.

God can also use these same animals to kill you, okay?

where God uses animals consistently to kill people, okay?

Now, we already know of a lot of these,

like for example Jonah, right?

Was swallowed by a great whale.

He prepared a whale to swallow him up, okay?

Obviously you have animals in the plagues of Egypt

as well that he used to judge the nation of Egypt.

In 1 Kings chapter 20,

a lion slays a man who refuses God's command.

So he disobeys God and then God prepares a lion to kill him.

He doesn't eat him, he just slays him, okay?

Acts chapter 12, verse 23,

Acts 12:23

you have worms eating Herod, right?

After not giving glory to God.

And then of course we already read in Leviticus 26

where he threatens this.

He says, I will send beast among you.

And it says that will rob you of your children,

it will destroy your cattle and make you few in number.

Deuteronomy chapter 28, you don't have to turn there.

Verse 25 says, the Lord shall cause thee

to be smitten before thine enemies.

Thou shalt go out one way against them

and flee seven ways before them

And thy carcasses shall be meat

and no man shall fray them away.

So another way that God uses animals to punish people

is by dishonoring them.

Because God, obviously we see this throughout the Bible

where we like to honor our debt.

When someone dies, there's a memorial for them,

place them in a coffin, we give them honor,

we speak well of them.

Part of the most dishonoring thing to do

is for an animal to consume that carcass.

And God specifically says like, hey, if you disobey me,

your carcass is gonna fall in the field

and I'm gonna allow the birds of the air

to come and just eat your carcass and no funeral.

That's basically what he's saying.

And one of the greatest examples of this is found where?

I think we have a coyote in the church.

You know, Revelation 19, right?

Revelation 19 is the battle of Armageddon.

All these armies are destroyed before the Lord

and then the great supper of the day is come

where God calls all the fowls of the air to come

and just literally eat the flesh of captains,

Just everyone in that field just is like,

come on and eat, come on.

It's like the way we were back there.

Just like we're just flying in on Jose and just eating.

That's what the fowls of the earth do.

he curses them and she bears come

of a religion between the religion of Israel

Well, look at the result of there, verse 25 says

and so it was that at the beginning

of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord.

Therefore the Lord sent lions among them

which slew some of them.

Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria

saying the nations which thou has removed

and placed in the cities of Samaria

know not the manner of the God of the land.

Therefore he had sent lions among them

and behold they slay them

because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

So they're coming into the land

making this bastardization of the religion of the Bible

and God's like, oh, you're making a mockery

of my religion.

I'm gonna go ahead and send lions among you

to kill you guys.

These idolaters is what they are.

And look, this is a real thing even today.

Look at the story of the man-eaters of Savo, okay?

Took place in India where you have these workers

that were being terrorized in railroad camps.

They were like these workers to create these railroads

in 1898 and these two male lions

basically terrorized them

and killed 135 workers.

They're Indians that they kill.

Okay, you're like, well, isn't that just like,

doesn't that just happen?

No, I think God sent lions among them.

You know, I'm pretty sure these Indians

were like idolaters, you know?

They're probably idolaters worshiping false gods,

mocking God in their heart.

Oh, you're just kind of making that up.

You don't really know that.

I just know that based upon what the Bible says, okay?

That he will send lions among them.

And so it's a very unique case,

but it's happened throughout history

where God will send animals

just like the man-eaters of Savo.

Let me see if I can pronounce this.

The Champawat Tiger, which is a female Bengal tiger,

killed 436 people in Nepal and Northern India.

She primarily attacked women and children

gathering firewood or tending livestock near the forest

often in broad daylight.

Her attacks brought entire villages to a standstill, 1907.

Hunter Jim Corbett tracked and killed her

after she murdered a 16-year-old girl.

But we see this in Leviticus 26.

He says, I will send beasts among you

and they will rob you of your children.

So he said, what's the point of like saying that,

pastor, you're making me feel uncomfortable.

I'm trying to teach you that God is loving,

but you know, he's also judgmental as well.

And he don't play around.

So you better fear him, okay?

And you know what?

This is motivation for you to serve God,

to obey the Lord.

Oh, are you using scare tactics

to try to get people to serve God?

Yeah, yeah.

It's called, you know, lions, for sure, yeah.

Oh yeah, I can't believe you would do these pastors

to use all these scare tactics

and fear to try to get people to serve God.

Yeah, you know, how about hell?

God uses hell to motivate people to get saved.

Some save with fear, pulling them out of the fire.

There are no lions here, there's mountain lions though.

And you know what?

I want to make sure I stay right with God

because I want God to bless me,

but I don't want to be consumed.

The worst way to die is to be consumed

by some sort of animal.

Probably the worst way to die.

Right?

Why don't you think that?

Like for a mountain lion to just eat you

or you know, what other animals have we got around?

Bears to eat you or something, you know?

We have this recorded throughout history of this happening.

There's also another case of a great white,

I think it goes off the coast of Rhode Island

who terrorized the city as well,

ate a lot of people for a period of time.

And I don't believe that's just like a random thing.

I do believe that something was happening

in the hearts of the people of that particular region

where there might have been cursing God in their heart,

they're mocking God,

they're just blaspheming God in their heart.

And then God says, oh, you think that's funny?

Let me send lions among you.

Let me send a great white.

Let me send a Bengal tiger to just consume your people

and see if you find that funny.

He sent she bears, right?

To destroy the children.

God's not messing around.

I am trying to instill fear in your heart.

To fear God, to love him with all your hearts,

mind and strength, stay right with him

lest this should befall you, okay?

That's pretty much it, you know?

There's other examples,

but you know, I don't have time to go through it all.

One notable example that's always worth mentioning

is the dogs that eat Jezebel.

They just, they left her hands,

I think her hands and her feet, right?

Her hands and her feet.

Was it the skull?

Who can verify that?

Is it the skull?

I know they left her hands for sure,

but they ate the majority of the corpse, right?

And as part of a punishment,

it was God's judgment upon Jezebel

for being a blasphemer,

for being such a wicked person, okay?

Lions, they ate Daniel's accusers.

So he was thrown into the lions then,

nothing happens to him,

but once he comes out,

they throw the other guys in

and the lion's like,

hey, the master said, these are the guys.

And then they go and they make a mastery

of them and their families

for accusing the man of God.

And then the last example

is the locus tormenting men for five months

in Revelation chapter nine.

You're like, all right,

they're talking about like animals on earth.

I'm just talking about any animal.

And these are creatures,

they're not just,

they're not spiritual creatures,

they're supernatural creatures, okay?

And they torment men for five months.

And why is that?

Because they're wicked,

godless people on this world,

they're reprobates

and they don't repent of their sorceries.

They keep doing idolatrous things.

They murder their thieves

and then they'll repent of their ways.

So God is just doing it just to judge them.

What's the point of the sermon today?

Well, the point is simply this,

just to help you to understand

our relation to animals, right?

Let's keep it on this side

where we are worshiping God

because of the animals he created,

use them for their original intent,

which is that food, companionship,

entertainment and so forth

and recognize that God can also use these animals

to turn on us in order to judge us.

If we stray and disobey God

and we get to make a mockery of the things of God,

he can definitely do that to us.

Let's pray.

Father, we thank you so much for your word.

Thank you for animals, Lord.

We're so thankful that you created

these magnificent creatures

and that we can stand in all of your power

and your creativity.

I pray that, Lord, we continue to do so.

Lord, help us to be good stewards of the animals

you led us to come in contact with, Lord.

And may we never be cruel to animals

and but also recognize that animals are,

though a good companion,

they are insufficient for us as Christians,

as human beings.

We need human contact.

And I pray that, Lord, you help us to remain in the way

so that you would not send a lion to consume us

as you did with the prophet who disobeyed you, Lord.

And I pray, Father God,

that you help us to stay in the way to do so.
