  1. Amen. Okay, we're in 1 Samuel chapter 5 and this is actually one of my favorite stories in the Bible.

    1 Samuel 5 chapter mention

  2. The title of my sermon tonight is,

  3. Holy Things in Unholy Hands.

  4. Holy Things in Unholy Hands.

  5. Let me give you a little bit of a background on what's taking place here in this particular story.

  6. We're going to go through 1 Samuel chapter 5 and 6.

    1 Samuel 5 chapter mention

  7. Prior to this, of course, we have what's called the Ark of the Covenant.

  8. The Ark of the Covenant was essentially a gold-plated structure that God commanded from Moses to make

  9. where you had the Ten Commandments, you had Aaron's Raw that butted, and you had the manna as well.

  10. And this essentially signified where the presence of God would dwell.

  11. And essentially, as long as the children of Israel obeyed the Lord, they kept His commandments,

  12. they did what they were supposed to do, adhere to the Covenant,

  13. then when they had that Ark, they would essentially prosper in everything that they did,

  14. specifically when they would go out to war, right?

  15. So anytime they would go out to battle, as long as they had the presence of God

  16. as signified by the Ark of the Covenant, they would be blessed, they would be victorious,

  17. God would be with them, and so forth.

  18. And so, obviously, this is a physical thing that God commanded to be within the nation of Israel

  19. in order to signify that God was with that nation.

  20. Now, by the time we get to 1 Samuel chapter 4, a lot has happened.

    1 Samuel 4 chapter mention

  21. You know, you have a lot of corrupt leaders.

  22. You have Eli and his sons, Hofney and Phineas, who according to the Bible were sons of Belial.

  23. They were reprobates.

  24. They were evil and wicked people.

  25. And for the sake of time, we're not going to necessarily cover that entire story.

  26. But, you know, they go to war with the Philistines, and they think to themselves,

  27. well, you know, let's just bring the Ark of the Covenant with us,

  28. and we will obviously be victorious against the Philistines.

  29. So, they're essentially treating the Ark of the Covenant somewhat like a lucky charm.

  30. They're being superstitious about the Ark of the Covenant,

  31. thinking, well, we could just be wicked and be reprobates and disobey the Lord

  32. and not obey the Lord in these areas.

  33. But as long as we have the Ark of the Covenant, everything should be hunky-dory.

  34. We should be able to defeat the Philistines.

  35. Now, obviously, that didn't happen.

  36. And in fact, the Bible specifically said that God wanted to kill Hofney and Phineas

  37. because there were sons of Belial, there were godless people,

  38. there were reprobates, children of the devil,

  39. and the Bible says that he would destroy them.

  40. He wanted to kill them.

  41. And so, when this war took place, they ended up dying in battle,

  42. and the Philistines, who are a heathen nation,

  43. their heathen people,

  44. ended up stealing the Ark of the Covenant and bringing it into their lands.

  45. So, you have the children of Israel suffering a great defeat,

  46. and this is where you have the term Ichabod,

  47. which means the glory of God has departed

  48. as noted by the fact that the physical Ark of the Covenant is taken.

  49. It's essentially symbolizing that God's presence, God's glory, is not there.

  50. Now, obviously, folks, you know, when you read these chapters,

  51. we can see that the glory of God departed long ago, right?

  52. As noted by the fact that Eli, his eyes were dim,

  53. he wasn't a great leader, his sons are super wicked,

  54. but the nail in the coffin, the straw that broke the camel's back,

  55. that indicator that he was no longer there

  56. was the fact that they took the Ark of the Covenant.

  57. So, now we're in chapter 5, and in chapter 5,

  58. we see what happens when you put something so sacred

  59. and holy as the Ark of the Covenant

  60. in the hands of Godless people, okay?

  61. And that's what I'm going to preach on this evening.

  62. Now, how do we apply this?

  63. Well, you know, sometimes people think,

  64. well, as long as we put someone in the right environment,

  65. as long as we put someone around the right type of people,

  66. they're just going to turn out, right?

  67. They're going to be good people, great Christians,

  68. but it doesn't necessarily work that way, okay?

  69. You know, if you put an unsafe person in our church,

  70. it doesn't mean that they're going to be a great person.

  71. You know, they have to get saved.

  72. They have to be regenerated.

  73. They have to have their sins forgiven.

  74. They have to have that new man,

  75. the Holy Spirit of God in them,

  76. and that's all based upon whether they believe

  77. on the Lord Jesus Christ or not.

  78. So you can have the greatest church

  79. with the greatest of preaching.

  80. You can have great sermons.

  81. You can have great hymns.

  82. You can have an environment

  83. that is conducive to spiritual growth,

  84. but it means nothing to the unsafe person

  85. if they don't actually get saved, right?

  86. You can place an unholy person

  87. within a holy environment.

  88. It does nothing to them

  89. if they don't actually choose to believe

  90. on the Lord Jesus Christ.

  91. You know, you can place a King James Bible

  92. on the coffee table of an unsafe house

  93. and it does nothing for them.

  94. They can operate, they can use it like a lucky charm

  95. and to ward off the spirits and the vampires

  96. and you know, so that no, it does nothing.

  97. You know, and by the way, the King James Bible

  98. is the inspired, preserved word of God

  99. for the English-speaking people.

  100. It's the only Bible that Christians should be using.

  101. You know, all other modern versions are fraudulent.

  102. They're fake.

  103. They're trashy.

  104. They're not God's word, okay?

  105. They're a corruption of God's word is what it is.

  106. And so, but here's the thing.

  107. If you give someone the King James Bible

  108. which is the accurate and Aaron-inspired word of God,

  109. you know, it does nothing to them

  110. if they don't believe the words

  111. that are written in that book.

  112. Keeping it on the coffee table does nothing.

  113. You know, you're not blessed by osmosis

  114. by having the Bible in your presence, right?

  115. You're like, well, you know, I have a King,

  116. I have five King James Bible on my bookshelf.

  117. It does nothing for your bookshelf.

  118. It does nothing for your spiritual life.

  119. It does nothing for you, okay?

  120. And so, it's important for us to realize

  121. that just because you put a holy thing

  122. in the hands of an unholy person,

  123. it actually does nothing for them.

  124. We're not the superstitious type to think that,

  125. well, you know, as long as we put this person

  126. alongside a righteous individual,

  127. that somehow they're gonna influence that person,

  128. that righteous individual is gonna make them

  129. better spiritually, doesn't work that way

  130. because everyone has a choice.

  131. And they have to choose to be renewed.

  132. You know, reformation is great,

  133. but reformation has an end.

  134. You need transformation, right?

  135. You can have someone come into our church

  136. and be reformed.

  137. What does that mean?

  138. You know, they come in here

  139. and maybe they're a drug addict or whatever

  140. and they're trying to get cleaned up.

  141. And they come here,

  142. they hear preaching about alcohol and drugs and whatnot

  143. and they can even clean up their lines in that regard.

  144. They can buy a suit.

  145. They can part their hair.

  146. They can sing the hymns.

  147. They can buy the Bible.

  148. But folks, that's all reformation

  149. and if there's no transformation

  150. that comes about because you believe on Christ,

  151. it means nothing.

  152. Now, what are we talking about with transformation?

  153. We're talking about salvation, being born again, okay?

  154. You know, if any man be in Christ,

  155. he is a new creature.

  156. Old things have passed away.

  157. Behold, all things have become new.

  158. It's referring to salvation.

  159. And so, you know, we're not necessarily

  160. looking to reform people.

  161. We're looking to reform Christians

  162. after they've already gotten saved

  163. but not to reform unbelievers

  164. because that does nothing for them.

  165. It's essentially putting holy things in unholy hands.

  166. And as we're gonna see tonight,

  167. that is often detrimental to the individual

  168. and it does nothing for them.

  169. So let's read here.

  170. Look at verse number one.

  171. The first thing we're gonna look at here

  172. is that when you place a holy thing

  173. in an unholy hand,

  174. it actually desecrates holy things, okay?

  175. Look at verse one.

  176. And the Philistines took the Ark of God

  177. and brought it for Ebenezer unto Ashton.

  178. And when the Philistines took the Ark of God,

  179. they brought it into the house of Dagon

  180. and set it by Dagon.

  181. So when they're bringing this Ark of the Covenant,

  182. they're just not like, they're not like,

  183. hey, you know what?

  184. We probably shouldn't be worshiping false gods.

  185. This is the real deal here.

  186. Let's, you know, repent of our ways.

  187. Let's get rid of our false gods.

  188. Let's get rid of Dagon.

  189. Let's get rid of these devils

  190. and start worshiping the God of the Bible.

  191. What do they do?

  192. What happens when you place a holy thing

  193. into the hands of unholy men?

  194. They just basically add God

  195. to their plethora of false gods.

  196. When you add Jesus Christ to your religion

  197. and you're just like, well, you know,

  198. I believe in Jesus Christ.

  199. I think he is the Christ.

  200. I believe he is the Messiah.

  201. But you don't believe that he's God.

  202. You don't believe that he's forgiven you

  203. of all your sins

  204. and that he died on the cross to pay for your sins.

  205. Guess what?

  206. It does nothing for you.

  207. It changes nothing for you.

  208. In fact, it desecrates you.

  209. Okay?

  210. It actually makes you worse

  211. and it desecrates Christ.

  212. Why?

  213. Because Christ is not interested

  214. in being added to

  215. your shelf of false gods.

  216. Okay?

  217. You know, you ask a Hindu, a Buddhist.

  218. If you were to give a Hindu or a Buddhist,

  219. some idol of Jesus Christ

  220. and we're not four idols of Jesus Christ.

  221. But let's say you just give them

  222. an idol of Jesus Christ.

  223. You know, they're not,

  224. they're not going to be against it.

  225. They're like, oh, thank you.

  226. You know, they view it as like a lucky charm.

  227. Oh, this will ward off

  228. the so-called spirits of whatever

  229. and they'll just put it on their shelf

  230. along with all the other false gods

  231. that they have,

  232. thinking that that's how

  233. somehow going to improve their life.

  234. But what is that?

  235. That is a desecration of the name of God.

  236. Thinking that you could just add Jesus Christ

  237. to your plethora of false gods.

  238. There should be no God before him,

  239. the Bible says.

  240. That's literally like the first commandment

  241. in the Ten Commandments.

  242. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

  243. I am the Lord

  244. and there's no savior.

  245. Listen to this.

  246. Beside me.

  247. What are they doing?

  248. They're placing Jesus

  249. or they're placing the God of the Bible

  250. at this time

  251. right next to Dagon.

  252. Now, who's Dagon?

  253. Exactly.

  254. Who's Dagon?

  255. Dagon is basically historically

  256. referred to as the Fish God.

  257. You know,

  258. so it was like,

  259. you know,

  260. some say it was just like this anthropomorphic image

  261. of like a half man,

  262. half,

  263. it's like Aquaman or something like that.

  264. You know,

  265. where it looked like a fish,

  266. but it was a man

  267. and they had this image of him.

  268. This is who the gods,

  269. this is who the people of the Philistines

  270. would worship is Dagon.

  271. Okay.

  272. And some say he was the God of fertility,

  273. blah, blah, blah.

  274. It is a devil is what it is.

  275. Okay.

  276. There is no other gods.

  277. There's lowercase G gods,

  278. but these aren't gods.

  279. These are devils,

  280. according to the Bible.

  281. So what are they doing?

  282. Does bringing the Ark of the Covenant

  283. into Philistine territory

  284. improve the Philistines?

  285. No,

  286. because they just add him

  287. to their false gods.

  288. They're like,

  289. well,

  290. now we got two gods.

  291. We have the Ark of the Covenant

  292. and we have Dagon.

  293. But of course,

  294. we know that the Bible

  295. is completely against.

  296. Go to 1 Corinthians,

  297. chapter eight,

  298. if you would.

  299. 1 Corinthians,

  300. chapter eight.

  301. 1 Corinthians,

  302. chapter eight.

  303. Now,

  304. let me just remind you

  305. that as Christians,

  306. we should flee idolatry,

  307. meaning that

  308. Christians should have nothing

  309. to do with idols.

  310. And I'm not just referring

  311. to idols of false gods

  312. like Dagon.

  313. I'm talking about idols

  314. of images

  315. that are made of things

  316. of heaven above,

  317. such as the Godhead,

  318. images of Jesus Christ,

  319. images of Mary,

  320. images of the saints,

  321. Catholics,

  322. icons and so forth.

  323. These are things

  324. that the Bible renders

  325. and classifies as being an idol.

  326. And the Bible tells us

  327. keep yourselves from idols.

  328. And look folks,

  329. idolatry is a major sin

  330. in the Bible.

  331. Okay.

  332. It should not be taken lightly.

  333. And in fact,

  334. it's such a grievous sin

  335. in the eyes of God

  336. that if someone commits idolatry

  337. in the local New Testament church,

  338. they are excommunicated

  339. if they're unwilling

  340. to repent of that.

  341. Now, what do we mean by that?

  342. Meaning that if you're carrying

  343. some Virgin Mary

  344. in your vehicle

  345. because your grandma

  346. gave it to you,

  347. according to the Bible,

  348. you're an idolater.

  349. You're like,

  350. why don't we really worship it?

  351. God doesn't care

  352. what you think worship is

  353. or not.

  354. The mere fact

  355. that you possess the idol

  356. classifies you being an idolater.

  357. And he doesn't care

  358. if you have it

  359. for sentimental reasons.

  360. Oh, it's a good luck charm.

  361. Oh, my grandma gave it to me.

  362. Oh, I'm Mexican.

  363. You know, oh, you know,

  364. you don't understand.

  365. It's made out of gold

  366. or whatever.

  367. He doesn't care.

  368. Get rid of it.

  369. And here's the thing.

  370. He's like,

  371. why don't I pray to it

  372. but you have it.

  373. And the Bible not only condemns

  374. venerating, praying towards,

  375. worshiping these idols.

  376. It just condemns

  377. having them, period.

  378. Okay.

  379. Especially if you think,

  380. you know,

  381. if you ascribe

  382. some sort of power

  383. to that idol.

  384. And look,

  385. that also includes crosses.

  386. If you have a cross

  387. with the dead Jesus on there,

  388. first and foremost,

  389. that's not Jesus.

  390. You say,

  391. well, how do you know?

  392. Well, because he didn't stay

  393. on the cross.

  394. So why have this morbid Jesus

  395. on a cross?

  396. You're just carrying around.

  397. You just have it in your church.

  398. That's called an idol.

  399. And look, a lot of people think,

  400. you know,

  401. and I used to think this

  402. because I was a Catholic

  403. at one point,

  404. you know,

  405. that if you had some sort

  406. of Jesus cross crucifix

  407. where he's on there

  408. in your home,

  409. that somehow

  410. that would protect you

  411. or something like that.

  412. Right.

  413. You know,

  414. Catholics will often think,

  415. well,

  416. if I carry this with me,

  417. this is going to kind of protect

  418. me from the evil spirits.

  419. It's called superstition.

  420. That's exactly what Catholics do.

  421. They're just superstitious people

  422. thinking that that's going to ward

  423. off the vampires

  424. and the werewolves

  425. and the zombies or whatever.

  426. But it does nothing.

  427. This is what is referred

  428. to as idolatry.

  429. It's when you ascribe

  430. some sort of supernatural power

  431. to that physical cross.

  432. And look,

  433. I'm not against people

  434. having crosses,

  435. you know,

  436. as a necklace.

  437. You know,

  438. obviously I am against having

  439. Jesus on that cross.

  440. But let me say this.

  441. If you like require,

  442. if you need to have a cross

  443. around your neck

  444. because you're afraid something

  445. might happen to you,

  446. okay.

  447. Now you're a superstitious person.

  448. You're ascribing power

  449. to a physical thing

  450. that's wrapped around your neck

  451. that does nothing for you.

  452. Let me tell you

  453. who protects you

  454. is the Lord.

  455. Ten thousand shall fall

  456. on my right side.

  457. Ten thousand on my left

  458. shall not come nying to me.

  459. Okay.

  460. And we need to understand

  461. that idolatry is a major thing.

  462. And you know,

  463. you may not think too much

  464. of idolatry because we live

  465. in the United States of America

  466. where, you know,

  467. in general,

  468. people would consider it to be

  469. somewhat of a Christian nation

  470. as a lot of churches.

  471. But around the world,

  472. idolatry is extremely rampant.

  473. Southeast Asia,

  474. they have altars and idols

  475. literally on every corner.

  476. Okay.

  477. And so,

  478. and here's the thing.

  479. This is what happens

  480. when you bring people

  481. of other cultures

  482. into the United States

  483. of America.

  484. What does it do?

  485. It actually normalizes idolatry.

  486. Oh, that's just who they are.

  487. They're just, you know,

  488. that's what they believe.

  489. That, you know,

  490. they're Catholics,

  491. you know,

  492. they're Buddhists,

  493. that they're Hindus,

  494. they're Muslims or whatever.

  495. This is just what they believe.

  496. That's what they do.

  497. Yeah.

  498. But they're bringing in

  499. Godless customs

  500. that's contrary to the word

  501. of God.

  502. And before you know,

  503. we're going to be like

  504. Southeast Asia.

  505. Whereas just you have

  506. all these idols in the land

  507. displeasing God

  508. because of that.

  509. And so,

  510. it's important to know,

  511. look at 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 8 chapter mention

  512. chapter 8

  513. and look down to your

  514. Bibles at verse number 4.

  515. It says,

  516. as concerning, therefore,

  517. the eating of those things

  518. that are offered

  519. in sacrifice into idols,

  520. we know that an idol

  521. is nothing in the world

  522. and that there is none other

  523. God but one.

  524. So in other words,

  525. you know,

  526. don't fear the idol.

  527. Oh, Annabelle.

  528. There's this doll.

  529. It's Annabelle.

  530. She might kill me.

  531. It's a doll.

  532. I'll whoop that doll.

  533. Just burn it.

  534. It's a doll.

  535. But this is how superstitious people are.

  536. And look, again,

  537. Roman Catholicism is notorious for this

  538. where they literally have

  539. fragments of human remains

  540. and they idolize it.

  541. Now, a couple years ago,

  542. they had supposedly

  543. the hand of Jude or something.

  544. You know,

  545. and they brought it to Orange County

  546. or whatever.

  547. That's someone else's dude's hand,

  548. but that's not Jude's hand.

  549. They dug some random

  550. dude out of the grave

  551. and just say that's Jude.

  552. They're going to believe it.

  553. They believe everything else.

  554. And they just got someone's corpse.

  555. It might not even be that.

  556. It might just be like paper mache.

  557. We don't know.

  558. But it's just like, oh, it has so much power.

  559. It's just able to do so many things.

  560. It's just, you know,

  561. this idol, we got to be careful.

  562. You know, I'm scared of that thing.

  563. You're superstitious.

  564. The idol is nothing the Bible says.

  565. You know, years ago,

  566. what we did in order to prevent idolatry

  567. from, you know,

  568. unforeseen idolatry

  569. from getting a foothold in our church,

  570. we had idol burning Sunday.

  571. Because you know,

  572. we had a lot of former Catholics

  573. and former Orthodox.

  574. And so we encourage everyone

  575. to bring their idols to church

  576. and we're going to have

  577. a bonfire of idols.

  578. We're just throwing them into the fire.

  579. People just repenting of their idolatry.

  580. And you know, we have some Orthodox guys.

  581. So one of them in particular

  582. just rose an idolatry.

  583. You know, you're just bringing all kinds of images

  584. and wood and whatnot.

  585. And then we just had people

  586. who were just pyromaniacs

  587. and they just wanted to burn stuff.

  588. Glenn was bringing like Mickey Mouse.

  589. This is kind of like an idol, right?

  590. Some people idol,

  591. I was like,

  592. I just want to burn stuff at this point.

  593. You know, just random.

  594. You know, covetousness is idolatry.

  595. So you don't just throw money

  596. in the flames or whatever.

  597. But you know, it was good

  598. because you know, we had,

  599. I think we had it twice back to back.

  600. And you know,

  601. we would burn these idols

  602. and the bigger idols

  603. we gave bats to the kids.

  604. Give them goggles, okay?

  605. And they're just smashing the idols.

  606. We're just teaching them

  607. to hate idolatry, okay?

  608. But we obviously know

  609. that the idol is nothing.

  610. It's not going to do anything to you.

  611. It's not going to fly at you.

  612. It's not going to talk to you.

  613. It's not going to harm you or anything.

  614. It's nothing.

  615. The Buddha goes on to say in verse 5,

  616. for though there be

  617. that are called God,

  618. whether in heaven or in earth,

  619. as there be God's many

  620. and Lord's many,

  621. but to us there is

  622. but one God,

  623. the Father,

  624. of whom are all things

  625. and we in him

  626. and one Lord Jesus Christ

  627. by whom are all things

  628. and we by him.

  629. Go to chapter 10,

  630. if you would,

  631. chapter 10.

  632. Look at verse 19 here.

  633. Like, well, the idol is nothing.

  634. Then what's the problem?

  635. You know,

  636. if it's not going to do anything to me,

  637. what's the harm

  638. of keeping my little St. Joseph

  639. in my drawer?

  640. You know,

  641. what harm is it?

  642. You know,

  643. well,

  644. here's the harm

  645. is that God's going to destroy you

  646. because you ain't listening.

  647. And he's offended

  648. at that idol, okay?

  649. Because you're basically taking Jesus

  650. and you're putting him

  651. next to this idol.

  652. Look what it says in verse 19.

  653. It says,

  654. What say I then

  655. that the idol is anything

  656. or that which is offered

  657. in sacrifice to idols

  658. is anything?

  659. But I say

  660. that the things

  661. which the Gentiles sacrifice,

  662. they sacrifice to devils

  663. and not to God

  664. and I would not

  665. that ye should have fellowship

  666. with devils.

  667. Ye cannot drink

  668. the cup of the Lord

  669. and the cup of devils.

  670. Ye cannot be partakers

  671. of the Lord's table

  672. and of the table of devils.

  673. In other words,

  674. you can't say that you're worshiping God

  675. and you're keeping these idols

  676. with you in your house.

  677. You know,

  678. it is an oxymoron is what it is.

  679. You're contradicting yourself

  680. by saying,

  681. well,

  682. you know,

  683. I worship God

  684. but then you have these

  685. images,

  686. you have these idols

  687. in your house.

  688. And in fact,

  689. look what it goes on to say

  690. in verse 22.

  691. Do we provoke the Lord

  692. to jealousy?

  693. Are we stronger than he?

  694. So what are you doing actually

  695. when you possess these

  696. images,

  697. these idols?

  698. And yeah,

  699. you don't worship them.

  700. You're just carrying them

  701. for sentiment of value.

  702. You're provoking the Lord

  703. to jealousy.

  704. You're making them mad.

  705. You're basically taking

  706. the Ark of the Covenant

  707. and putting it

  708. right beside

  709. Dagon.

  710. That's how God views it.

  711. Okay.

  712. So what should I do?

  713. Burn it!

  714. Throw it in the trash.

  715. Stomp on it.

  716. Have an idol burning

  717. Sunday at your house.

  718. Take all your idols,

  719. throw them in the trash

  720. and look, you know,

  721. I feel very strongly about this

  722. because I came from Catholicism

  723. and I think it's very important.

  724. And in fact, you know,

  725. and I just don't think

  726. Christians really think

  727. it's that important.

  728. They're not as zealous

  729. about it

  730. as they should be.

  731. You know,

  732. I'll give you an example.

  733. You know,

  734. a couple of weeks ago,

  735. you know,

  736. you know,

  737. sometimes people

  738. just give you stuff, right?

  739. And they don't really

  740. think about

  741. what they're giving you

  742. or whatever.

  743. And you know,

  744. people give my mom

  745. things a lot.

  746. Okay.

  747. And you know,

  748. one time I went over

  749. to her house

  750. and you know,

  751. I'm just kind of talking

  752. to my mom.

  753. I was with my wife

  754. and then,

  755. you know,

  756. my wife was like,

  757. you know,

  758. there's like idols in here.

  759. I was like,

  760. where?

  761. I'm like,

  762. Oh dang.

  763. Like,

  764. how did I not see this?

  765. But there was like

  766. three fat Buddhas.

  767. And look,

  768. here's the thing folks

  769. is that Buddha,

  770. he's not a God,

  771. but it's still an idol though.

  772. It's classified

  773. as an idol

  774. according to the Bible

  775. because I don't get

  776. my classification

  777. or definitions

  778. of ungodly people,

  779. unholy people.

  780. Well,

  781. it's not really worship.

  782. It's veneration.

  783. It's worship.

  784. I'm not asking you.

  785. No one asked you,

  786. bro.

  787. Okay.

  788. According to the Bible,

  789. it's classified as an idol.

  790. So my wife is like,

  791. there's like,

  792. Buddha's here.

  793. And I was like,

  794. I was horrified.

  795. And I'm like,

  796. mom,

  797. do you know that there's

  798. you have Buddhas in the house?

  799. It's like,

  800. oh yes.

  801. You know,

  802. someone sent this to me

  803. or whatever.

  804. I'm like,

  805. you can't have these.

  806. This is idolatry.

  807. She's like,

  808. really?

  809. I'm like,

  810. yeah.

  811. I'm like,

  812. this is,

  813. this is,

  814. this is,

  815. uh,

  816. you're provoking the Lord to

  817. Chelsea here

  818. because you're a saved woman.

  819. You're having these

  820. and she didn't really realize

  821. how bad it was.

  822. You know,

  823. and I'm like,

  824. I was explaining to her

  825. the concept of idolatry

  826. and the fact that

  827. these should not be in the home.

  828. And I said,

  829. but don't worry.

  830. I'm a good son.

  831. I'll take care of them for you.

  832. And she's like,

  833. oh no,

  834. don't do that.

  835. I could just sell them.

  836. We're not selling them

  837. because my mom,

  838. my mom likes to sell things.

  839. You know,

  840. and,

  841. and I was just like,

  842. no,

  843. we're not selling them.

  844. I'm going to give her

  845. a room for you.

  846. Okay.

  847. And she's like,

  848. oh,

  849. do you really have?

  850. I'm like,

  851. yes.

  852. And it's not because

  853. her heart was endeared

  854. to these idols

  855. because she just

  856. want to make money off of them.

  857. You know,

  858. she's just like,

  859. I could,

  860. you know,

  861. I could sell this

  862. to some Buddhist

  863. or whatever

  864. and they'll pay

  865. a pretty penny for this.

  866. you know,

  867. and you know,

  868. I said,

  869. no,

  870. I'm just going to

  871. take care of them.

  872. You know,

  873. and so like,

  874. when,

  875. when she wasn't looking

  876. and look,

  877. I'm not saying

  878. you should do this.

  879. I'm just saying

  880. what I do.

  881. As she's distracted,

  882. my mom just grabbed

  883. the paper bag

  884. just throw all the idols

  885. in there.

  886. I'm like,

  887. okay,

  888. mom got to go.

  889. I'll see you later.

  890. You know,

  891. and took them

  892. and went trash to them.

  893. She probably looking for them.

  894. She can't fight them.

  895. You know,

  896. I don't want my mom

  897. provoking the Lord to jealousy.

  898. Call me Jeri Bale.

  899. You know,

  900. and so it's important

  901. for us to be zealous

  902. about these things

  903. and recognize

  904. it's not just a matter of,

  905. oh,

  906. well,

  907. I'm not praying

  908. to this idol.

  909. Well,

  910. don't even have it.

  911. Right.

  912. Don't even have it.

  913. Trash it.

  914. Just destroy it.

  915. Burn it in the fire

  916. and teach your kids

  917. and your family

  918. what it is,

  919. what the Bible

  920. talks about idolatry

  921. and how

  922. we should not be idolaters.

  923. Go back to 1st Samuel.

  924. If you would.

  925. 1st Samuel

  926. Chapter 5.

  927. And so,

  928. you know,

  929. when you put

  930. holy things

  931. in unholy hands,

  932. you actually end up

  933. desecrating

  934. the holy things.

  935. Okay,

  936. you're

  937. provoking the Lord

  938. to jealousy.

  939. It's not like

  940. God doesn't view it

  941. as you just being

  942. tolerant of other people

  943. or you're just so loving.

  944. No,

  945. he's a jealous God

  946. and he's not going to

  947. share his glory

  948. with anybody,

  949. especially some fat little

  950. idol

  951. of Buddha

  952. of someone

  953. who's literally

  954. burning in hell today.

  955. Okay.

  956. And you can insert

  957. anybody else

  958. into that.

  959. And here's the thing.

  960. You know these

  961. you say,

  962. what about saints?

  963. You know,

  964. saints are saved.

  965. Yeah.

  966. And you know what?

  967. They're probably horrified

  968. of what people

  969. have been doing

  970. to their names

  971. over the last couple

  972. thousand years.

  973. Right.

  974. You know,

  975. just like I'm sure

  976. I'm sure,

  977. especially Mary,

  978. I'm sure she's just

  979. facepalming.

  980. You know,

  981. like someone

  982. comes into heaven

  983. like I got saved.

  984. I used to be a Catholic.

  985. You're not going to believe.

  986. I know.

  987. I know.

  988. I already know.

  989. I heard about it.

  990. You know,

  991. it's just,

  992. it's crazy,

  993. you know,

  994. and you're like,

  995. yeah,

  996. they pray to you.

  997. They call you

  998. the Queen of Heaven.

  999. She was like,

  1000. that's in the pie.

1001. Like that's in the pie.

  1002. The Queen of Heaven

1003. is not a good title.

  1004. And so

1005. holy things and unholy hands

  1006. desecrates holy things.

  1007. But number two,

  1008. it doesn't improve

  1009. unholy things.

  1010. So when you place

  1011. holy things

  1012. in unholy hands,

  1013. it does not improve

  1014. unholy things at all.

  1015. Why?

  1016. Because again,

  1017. it's not reformation.

  1018. It's transformation.

  1019. Look what it says

  1020. in verse number three.

  1021. It says that

  1022. when they of Ashtod

1023. arose early in the morrow,

  1024. behold,

  1025. Dagon was falling

  1026. upon his face

  1027. to the earth

1028. before the Ark of the Lord

  1029. and it took Dagon

1030. and set him in his place again.

1031. So he was just coming

  1032. into the temple

  1033. and then like Dagon

  1034. is just removed

  1035. from his threshold,

1036. falling flat on his face

  1037. right before the Ark

  1038. of the Lord.

  1039. Now obviously

  1040. you're going to see

  1041. in this chapter

  1042. that God has

1043. a great sense of humor.

  1044. Okay,

  1045. because it's funny

  1046. because he's making

  1047. Dagon bow before him.

  1048. Right?

  1049. And these Philistines

  1050. are like,

  1051. well, that's weird.

  1052. I didn't feel any

  1053. earthquake last night

1054. and then just kind of

1055. set him back in his place.

  1056. Now,

  1057. what's funny about this

  1058. is that idols,

  1059. you know,

1060. they need to be moved around.

  1061. You know,

1062. they have all this supernatural power

  1063. to give you fertility

  1064. to bless your crops

  1065. but they can't seem

1066. to move around on their own now,

  1067. can they?

1068. And it just reminds me

  1069. of all these videos

  1070. of Catholics

  1071. that I see

  1072. where they're like

  1073. holding the Virgin,

  1074. Mary's idol

  1075. and they're like,

  1076. ha ha ha ha

  1077. and it just like

  1078. falls and it breaks.

  1079. It's like,

  1080. why isn't it floating?

  1081. Why, you know,

  1082. why did God

  1083. let that happen

  1084. to that precious idol?

  1085. You know,

1086. they must need to be born.

  1087. They have no power.

  1088. So it falls over

  1089. flat on its face,

1090. worshiping the Ark of the Lord.

1091. It says in verse number 4,

  1092. when they arose early

  1093. on the morrow morning,

  1094. behold,

1095. Dagon was fallen upon his face

  1096. to the ground

1097. before the Ark of the Lord

1098. and the head of Dagon

  1099. and both the palms

  1100. of his hands

  1101. were cut off

  1102. upon the threshold.

1103. Only the stump of Dagon

  1104. was left to him.

  1105. You know,

1106. it sounds like the Ark of the Lord

1107. is not really helping them much.

  1108. It's not really improving

1109. their quality of life at all.

  1110. So you know,

1111. it falls the first time

  1112. and these priests

  1113. are just like,

  1114. that's weird.

1115. They put it back up.

1116. The second day they come,

1117. it's fallen to the ground again

  1118. but it's decapitated

  1119. and maimed.

  1120. Okay?

  1121. So obviously,

  1122. what is God doing?

  1123. He's mocking

1124. the gods of the Philistines,

  1125. removing their hands

  1126. and their head.

1127. Just the stump is left.

1128. And what is he doing?

1129. He's basically telling these people,

  1130. hey,

1131. your God is just wood.

1132. A stump is just like wood.

  1133. Right?

1134. Go to Jeremiah chapter 10

    Jeremiah 10 chapter mention

  1135. if you would.

  1136. Jeremiah chapter 10.

    Jeremiah 10 chapter mention

  1137. Jeremiah chapter number 10.

  1138. He's basically stripping away

  1139. the glory of Dagon

  1140. and demonstrating

1141. this thing has no power.

1142. I cut off its head,

  1143. removed its hands

1144. and it's still bowing down

  1145. before me.

1146. Look at Jeremiah chapter 10 verse 1.

    Jeremiah 10:1

  1147. Hear ye the word

1148. which the Lord speaketh unto you,

  1149. O house of Israel.

  1150. Thus saith the Lord,

1151. learn not the way of the heathen

1152. and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven

1153. for the heathen are dismayed at them.

1154. For the customs of the people are vain.

1155. For one cut at the tree

  1156. out of the forest,

1157. the work of the hands of the workmen

  1158. with the axe.

1159. They deck it with silver

  1160. and with gold.

1161. They fasten it with nails

  1162. and with hammers

  1163. that it move not.

1164. Now let me just say this.

1165. This is not talking about a Christmas tree.

  1166. Okay.

  1167. You know, oh man,

  1168. that's why I'm a guest against Christmas trees.

1169. But you should remove anything

1170. that's carved of wood out of your house.

  1171. Okay.

1172. Look what goes on in verse 5.

1173. They are upright as the palm tree,

  1174. but speak not.

1175. They must needs be born

  1176. because they cannot go.

1177. Be not afraid of them

1178. for they cannot do evil.

1179. Neither also is it in them to do good.

1180. Now, what is he talking about?

1181. He's talking about the fact that these heathen nations

1182. will cut out a tree

1183. and essentially carve out an idol out of that tree.

1184. In other words, it's just wood.

1185. Wood hand stubble, so to speak, right?

1186. Meaning it has no power.

1187. So when God, you know,

1188. decapitates Dagon, removes his hands

1189. and just leaves the stump,

  1190. he's essentially demonstrating

  1191. to the Philistines,

  1192. you're worshiping wood.

  1193. It has no power.

  1194. It has no value.

1195. It's just a piece of wood, okay?

1196. It's a stock, as the Bible says.

1197. Now, there's an important principle

1198. that we see, go to Haggai if you would.

  1199. Haggai.

  1200. It's important principle regarding

  1201. putting holy things

  1202. next to unholy things.

1203. Look at Haggai chapter 2.

    Haggai 2 chapter mention

  1204. What's the point here?

1205. When you put holy things in unholy hands,

1206. it never improves the unholy things.

1207. A person has to decide, right?

1208. You know, you put someone

1209. in a fundamental Baptist church,

  1210. if they're not saved,

1211. they're going to be made a reprobate eventually.

1212. You put a goddess person

1213. in an unsaved goddess person

1214. into the house of God.

1215. Guess what's going to happen?

1216. Their heart is going to be hardened

1217. towards the things of God.

1218. They're not going to benefit

1219. from the preaching of his word.

1220. They're only going to become worse.

  1221. And look, folks,

1222. the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ,

1223. when it shines into the person

1224. who's receptive towards the Gospel,

1225. it benefits them, of course.

  1226. They get saved, right?

1227. But a person who hates the truth,

  1228. they hate the Bible,

  1229. it blinds them.

1230. It makes them a reprobate.

  1231. It corrupts them

  1232. because that's exactly

1233. what the light of the truth does.

1234. Look at Haggai chapter 2

    Haggai 2 chapter mention

  1235. and verse 11.

  1236. It says here,

1237. let's say the Lord of hosts

  1238. asks now the priest

  1239. concerning the law saying,

1240. if one bear holy flesh

1241. in the skirt of his garment

1242. and with his skirt do touch bread

  1243. or potage or wine

1244. or oil or any meat,

  1245. shall it be holy?

1246. And the priest answered and said,

  1247. no.

  1248. Then said Haggai,

1249. if one that is unclean by a dead body

  1250. touch any of these,

  1251. shall it be unclean?

1252. And the priest answered and said,

  1253. it shall be unclean.

  1254. In other words,

1255. you know, when you put the ark of the covenant

  1256. in a foreign land

1257. that doesn't worship the God of the Bible,

1258. all you're going to do is make God mad

  1259. because you're desecrating it,

1260. but it's also not going to improve

  1261. the land, right?

  1262. You know what?

1263. This goes to show us that

1264. when we are seeking to witness to people,

  1265. our friends, family members,

1266. you know, you don't reach them by being like them,

  1267. okay?

1268. You reach them by condescending to men of low estate,

1269. but eventually you got to give them the gospel,

  1270. okay?

1271. And you know, I know a lot of times people have a burden

  1272. for their friends, family,

1273. and you know, this is one of the reasons

1274. they stay in contact with these people

1275. and I'm all for that,

  1276. but eventually

1277. you're just going to have to break the ice

1278. and actually give them the gospel

1279. and if they reject it,

1280. you need to dust off your feet and move on.

  1281. Why?

1282. Because you as a holy thing will become desecrated

  1283. by the unholy thing

1284. if you continue to spend time with the unsafe people,

  1285. okay?

1286. And look, I'm a firm believer that

  1287. safe people,

1288. the friends of safe people should be safe people.

1289. I'm talking about like the closest friends

  1290. of safe people.

1291. Obviously you're going to associate with people

  1292. out in the world

  1293. at your job

  1294. and your family, right?

1295. But it's important to recognize

1296. that you can't allow yourself to be influenced

  1297. by these people

  1298. and I do think it's a problem

1299. when safe people have more in common

1300. with unsafe people than with safe people, right?

  1301. Why?

1302. Because eventually you will become defiled

  1303. and look folks,

1304. the Bible obviously teaches us to be all things

  1305. to all men,

1306. you know, but the Bible says

1307. not without law unto Christ though.

1308. So if you're trying to reach your friend,

  1309. you know,

1310. you need to just be bold

1311. and start just giving them the gospel

  1312. and just say,

  1313. hey, we're friends,

1314. but I need to talk to you about this right now

1315. because it's like burdensome on my heart.

1316. Are you 100% sure that if you die today,

  1317. you go to heaven?

1318. Oh man, don't bring that Christianity stuff.

1319. You know, I don't like to talk about that with you.

1320. Then we can't hang out no more then

1321. because this is like the most important thing

  1322. of my life.

  1323. And you know what?

1324. I want you to be saved.

1325. So I want you to listen to this

  1326. and they're like,

  1327. well,

1328. if you're going to be talking to me

  1329. about this stuff,

1330. then I don't want to be friends

  1331. and be like,

  1332. Toodles,

  1333. see you later.

  1334. You know,

1335. I'm not interested in having a relationship

  1336. with someone

1337. who's not interested in the gospel.

  1338. Who's not saved?

  1339. And look folks,

1340. it's better to just step out

  1341. in faith,

  1342. give the gospel,

1343. and then your best friend gets saved

1344. and he remains your best friend.

1345. I mean, that's got to be one of the best feelings ever.

  1346. Right?

1347. I've never experienced something like that,

  1348. but you know,

  1349. I've experienced instances

1350. where I have extremely close friends,

1351. just friends that I love,

1352. friends that I've experienced life with

1353. and they came to church,

  1354. they got saved.

  1355. Praise God for that.

1356. Because I know I'm going to know this person

1357. for the rest of my life

  1358. and eternal life,

  1359. amen?

  1360. But,

  1361. hold on a second.

  1362. You know,

  1363. don't allow your loyalty

  1364. to an unsafe person

  1365. override your responsibility

  1366. of being a Christian

  1367. and recognize,

  1368. well,

  1369. you know,

  1370. yeah, you're right.

  1371. Sorry,

  1372. I didn't mean to offend you.

  1373. I won't be a Christian around you then.

1374. We'll just talk about other things.

  1375. You know,

  1376. you're a compromiser

  1377. at that point.

1378. Be a man of boldness.

1379. Be a person of boldness

  1380. of conviction

  1381. and have loyalty

  1382. to Jesus Christ

  1383. and recognize,

  1384. you know what?

  1385. We're best friends

1386. and because we're best friends,

1387. I'm going to give you the truth.

1388. I'm going to tell you what the Bible says

1389. on how to be saved

1390. and I want you to be saved.

1391. I want you to have eternal life.

1392. Because here's the thing, folks,

1393. if you're not willing to do that,

  1394. then you're a trashy friend.

  1395. You're not a good friend,

  1396. if that's you.

1397. Well, I'm just willing to put my differences aside.

  1398. Oh yeah,

1399. just let your friends go to hell, right?

  1400. Just let your friends

1401. just spend eternity in hell

1402. just so you can keep them as friends

  1403. this side of eternity.

  1404. So there's no division

1405. between you and your friend.

  1406. That's garbage.

1407. I rather risk offending my friends,

  1408. giving them the gospel

1409. and potentially them getting saved

1410. than just not telling them anything at all

1411. just so I can keep that relationship with them.

1412. You don't really love your friends.

1413. You know, when I first got saved,

  1414. I had a lot of friends

1415. and I brought them all to church

  1416. and obviously,

1417. when I first got saved,

1418. I didn't really know how to communicate the gospel.

1419. I knew I could say that I got saved

1420. and how I got saved

  1421. but I didn't really know

1422. how to like systematically teach the gospel.

1423. So what I would do is I would bring people to church

1424. and have other people witness to them.

1425. Some of my friends got saved

  1426. and some didn't.

1427. You know, those who didn't

1428. and wanted to keep contact with me,

  1429. I said,

1430. you know where to find me on Sundays?

1431. This is where I'm at on Sundays.

  1432. Sunday morning Sunday.

1433. Yeah, but what about Friday night?

  1434. Friday night, I'm sleeping.

1435. Not going out anymore on Fridays.

1436. You know, if you really value my friendship,

1437. you're going to have to come to church, you know?

1438. And you say, how'd that go?

1439. It didn't go very well, you know?

1440. I had to get some new friends.

1441. The point that I'm making here is that,

  1442. you know, placing you

1443. in the midst of unholy people

  1444. doesn't improve them

1445. unless you actually give them the gospel, okay?

1446. And so that's important to know, you know?

1447. And we need to learn

1448. how to dust off our feet

1449. when it comes to it.

1450. You know, the Bible says,

1451. give not that which is holy into the dogs.

1452. Neither cast your pearls before swine

1453. lest they trample them under their feet, the Bible says.

  1454. What does that mean?

1455. It means they take it for granted.

1456. They don't care what you have to say.

1457. They're not taking these things serious.

1458. And make no mistake about it.

  1459. I don't have any friend.

  1460. Listen to me.

1461. I haven't had any friend since I got saved

1462. who just can blaspheme the Lord in my presence.

1463. It's not going to happen.

1464. It's not going to happen.

1465. I'm not going to have some friend

1466. just because we grew up together

1467. just mocked the things of God

1468. and I'm just going to kind of turn a blind eye to them.

  1469. Not going to happen.

  1470. You blaspheme my God.

  1471. You're done, bro.

1472. First of all, you're getting a strong rebuke.

1473. I'm going to correct you

  1474. and then you're done.

1475. Either you apologize, you get saved

1476. or we're just not talking again

1477. because I'm not going to tolerate that.

1478. You know, you shouldn't tolerate people blaspheming

1479. your God in your presence,

1480. mocking the things of God,

  1481. mocking Jesus Christ,

1482. saying in all manner of evil.

1483. And look, one of the reasons people do that

1484. is because they want to see

1485. if you're really about it.

1486. You know, and if you don't say anything,

1487. if you don't actually speak up,

1488. they're like, oh, he's one of those.

1489. You can say anything you want around him.

1490. He's not going to say anything.

1491. He's too scared to say anything.

1492. You know, I don't want to be characterized as that

1493. and I have no problem.

  1494. Listen to me.

1495. I have no problem with making a conversation awkward.

1496. Some blasphemes are like, hey, what is that?

  1497. You know I'm a Christian.

1498. You know I believe on you.

1499. Oh, I get all tight

1500. because you're mocking my God.

1501. You know, why don't you curse Allah?

1502. Why don't you curse Buddha?

1503. Why don't you curse the Mormon God?

1504. Why you got to come after my God, right?

1505. I'll tell you why because they test the waters

1506. to see what they can get away with, okay?

1507. And you shouldn't have friends around you like that.

1508. The point being here is that

1509. placing holy things in unholy hands

1510. does not improve the unholy person.

1511. It actually makes it worse for them.

  1512. And you know what?

  1513. God's not interested.

  1514. Listen to me.

1515. God isn't interested in just reforming a person on the outside.

1516. He wants them to believe the truth on the inside, okay?

  1517. Let's look down.

1518. Go back to 1st Samuel, chapter 5, if you're already there.

1519. Next we see here that when you place

1520. holy things in unholy hands,

1521. it actually ends up destroying unholy hands, okay?

1522. So it doesn't improve it,

1523. but it actually ends up destroying it.

1524. Look at verse number six.

1525. It's probably the best part of the story.

1526. It says, but the hand of the Lord

1527. was heavy upon them of ashtod.

  1528. And he destroyed them.

  1529. He said, how?

1530. Did he like send down fire and brimstone?

1531. Did he just like open up hell

1532. and they just fell into hell?

1533. Like what amazing thing did God do?

1534. Did he smite them with madness?

1535. You know, did he send locusts and lice?

1536. It says he destroyed them and smote them with emeralds,

1537. even ashtod and the Coaster of.

  1538. Now, what are emeralds?

1539. Well, if you speak Spanish, I think it's emeroidus.

  1540. Emeroidus, is that right?

  1541. Okay, which means hemorrhoids.

  1542. Yes, you heard right.

1543. So, you know, he's hitting them where it hurts.

1544. Hitting them where the sun don't shine.

1545. So think about this, you know,

1546. and what an uncomfortable conversation

1547. this must have been with everybody.

1548. Because, you know, if someone has hemorrhoids,

1549. they're not just going to tell people about it.

  1550. Right?

1551. If they have hemorrhoids, they're not going to say anything,

  1552. but everyone has them.

1553. And look, and here's the thing, like,

1554. a lot of people in ashtod,

  1555. echron, and these regions,

1556. there's people who are dying, okay?

1557. So, he is killing some.

1558. You know, he's kind of distributing the judgment.

1559. Some are dying, but those who are not dying

1560. are just being given hemorrhoids.

  1561. All right?

1562. So, this is a lot of people just walking around all funny.

1563. And eventually, someone's going to ask,

1564. like, hey, you know, I got this problem.

  1565. I got it too.

1566. And then everyone's like, I got it too.

1567. You know, they can't sit down.

  1568. They can't sleep.

1569. They got chub rub going on.

1570. I mean, it's just like the whole nine.

  1571. Everything's just bothering them.

1572. And you know what, God is just smiting them with that.

  1573. And I think it's absolutely hilarious.

  1574. I think it's so funny.

1575. You know, the Bible's not boring.

1576. Now, those of you who don't know what hemorrhoids are,

  1577. don't look it up.

1578. And if you do, you know, get the AI version.

1579. Don't click images, all right?

1580. They're basically like sores in your privy parts, okay?

1581. And you know, God is not just going to put one there.

1582. I'm sure they got clusters of hemorrhoids there

1583. to just make their life absolutely miserable, okay?

  1584. I think it's just funny.

  1585. I think it's hilarious.

1586. You know, he's just, he's smote them with emeralds.

  1587. It's just, I mean, that's super painful, okay?

  1588. And there's no cream.

1589. They could like apply, you know, there's no,

  1590. what are the creams?

  1591. God, I can't remember what they're called.

1592. You know, there's certain creams out there that help with this.

1593. There's nothing that exists out there.

1594. There's nothing, they can't go to a doctor and it'll heal them.

1595. This is God's hand against them to just make them miserable

1596. just for desecrating the Ark of the Covenant,

1597. destroying the people of God,

1598. thinking that they could just add God to their plethora of false God,

1599. just, you know, just completely desecrating the name of God.

1600. Okay, I'm going to give you hemorrhoids, okay?

1601. It says, when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so,

1602. they said, the Ark of God of Israel shall not abide with us.

  1603. Listen to this.

1604. For his hand is sore upon us, you know,

1605. and upon Dagon of God, sore, right?

  1606. Yeah, it is.

1607. He says, they sent therefore and gathered all the Lord's

1608. of the Philistines unto him and said,

1609. what shall we do with the Ark of the God of Israel?

1610. And they answered, let the Ark of the God of Israel

1611. be carried out about unto Gath,

1612. and they carried the Ark of the God,

1613. of the God of Israel, about thither.

1614. And it was so that after they had carried it about,

1615. the hand of the Lord was against the city

1616. with the very great destruction,

1617. and he smote the men of the city,

  1618. both small and great,

1619. and they had emeralds in their secret parts.

1620. So everywhere that the Ark of God is going,

1621. it's like hemorrhoids, hemorrhoids, hemorrhoids,

  1622. everyone's just getting it.

  1623. It's hilarious, okay?

1624. Look at verse number 10.

1625. It says, therefore, they sent the Ark of God to Ekron,

1626. and it came to pass as the Ark of God came to Ekron,

1627. that the Ekronites cried out saying,

1628. they have brought about the Ark of the God of Israel

1629. to us to slay us and our people.

1630. And they sent and gathered together all the Lord's

1631. of the Philistines and said,

1632. send away the Ark of God of Israel

1633. and let it go down again to his own place

1634. that it slay us not, and our people,

1635. for there was a deadly destruction

  1636. throughout all the city.

1637. The hand of God was very heavy there.

1638. And the men that died not were smitten with emeralds

1639. and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

1640. Go to 1 Corinthians 2, if you would.

  1641. 2 Corinthians 2.

  1642. 2 Corinthians 2.

  1643. The story is hilarious.

1644. So, you know, they're all,

  1645. oh, victory, victory, yeah.

1646. You can't jump up and down.

  1647. You can't sit down.

1648. God is smiting you with one of the most uncomfortable

1649. things that a human can experience

  1650. and everyone has it.

1651. Now, what does this show us?

1652. What shows us that, you know, God,

1653. the Ark of the Covenant,

1654. when people are right with God,

  1655. it's awesome, right?

  1656. Obedidum.

1657. When he came to his house,

1658. he was living it up.

1659. His house was being blessed

1660. and obviously, you know, the Bible's not explicit

1661. at what kind of blessings he had,

1662. but I'm sure his resources

  1663. quadrupled.

  1664. There you go.

  1665. His resources quadrupled.

1666. I'm sure his crops were doing great.

1667. I'm sure his wife was having a lot of babies.

1668. I mean, he was just probably being blessed

1669. because the Ark of God,

1670. and he's probably like, hey, David,

1671. take your time, you know.

1672. I know you gotta come get it,

1673. but, you know, just take your sweet little time,

  1674. you know.

  1675. He's being blessed.

  1676. Why?

1677. Because he's actually obeying the Lord.

  1678. He's right with God.

  1679. He's a safe person.

  1680. It's blessing him.

  1681. It's helping him.

  1682. But here's the thing.

1683. When the Ark of God is in the midst

1684. of a crooked and perverse nation,

1685. in the midst of a wicked people,

1686. it's like a curse to them, you know.

1687. And look, the way we can apply it is like this.

1688. You know, a fundamental Baptist church

1689. can be a curse and it can be a blessing to a place.

1690. It can be a blessing to a place who wants the truth.

1691. It can be a blessing to a place who wants the gospel,

  1692. who wants salvation,

1693. but it can be a curse into those who hate the truth.

1694. You know, when we started our church in Omani,

  1695. we were a blessing.

1696. It was like the Ark of the Covenant

1697. and the city of Omani.

  1698. It was great.

1699. But then it eventually became a curse,

1700. not because of us, but because of them.

1701. Because they hated the truth.

1702. We became a pain in their hindre parts, so to speak.

  1703. Right?

1704. We became like hemorrhoids to them.

1705. You know, it's just like,

1706. oh, Pastor, he has such a pain in the, you know what?

1707. He's a pain in the hindre parts.

  1708. He's like hemorrhoids.

  1709. Why?

1710. Because that's exactly what happens

1711. when you place a holy thing

1712. into the hands of unholy people.

1713. It'll eventually destroy them, you know,

1714. because they hate the truth.

1715. Look at 2 Corinthians chapter 2 and verse 14.

    2 Corinthians 2 chapter mention

  1716. It says,

1717. The Bible says here that, you know, God's people,

1718. the knowledge of God has made manifest wherever they go.

  1719. Right?

1720. Like, oh, you know, God is with this person.

1721. This person is a Christian.

1722. This person is a believer.

1723. It says in verse 15,

1724. You know, we affect both saved and unsaved alike.

1725. People who want the truth, they love it.

1726. People who hate the truth, they hate it.

1727. We have this effect on society, right?

1728. And in fact, look what it goes on to say in verse 16.

1729. This is like, oh, I can't stand these people,

1730. these Christians with their big families

1731. and their marriages and their conservative values

1732. and their biblical teachings and their doctrines.

1733. It's like a saver of death and to death.

1734. That's what salt does, right?

1735. Salt in an open wound hurts.

  1736. But what is salt?

1737. It's simply, when you place salt in an open wound,

1738. it just exposes that there's an open wound there.

1739. We didn't create the open wound.

1740. We're just showing that there's an open wound there.

  1741. Right.

1742. You know, when you go to a city and you preach against its sin,

1743. when you preach against the nation, against the person,

1744. if they start, it's because there's a problem there.

1745. When I preach against feminism and you're like,

  1746. it's because you're probably a little feminist, right?

1747. You know, if I preach against being effeminate,

1748. you're just like, I don't mean you're being, there you go, right?

1749. If I preach against fornication and you're squirming,

1750. it's because the salt is irritating the wound.

1751. If I preach against drunkenness, covetousness, idolatry,

  1752. and you're squirming, it's not the salt's fault.

  1753. Guess what?

1754. It's the open wound that's in you of sin.

1755. It's the open wound caused by sin, should we say.

1756. And so Christians can be a saver of death and to death

1757. and it goes on to say, and to the other,

1758. the saver of life and to life.

1759. You know, there's people who, you know,

1760. they run into Christians, they meet churches, missionaries,

1761. and you're like a godsend to them.

1762. I mean, all of us have experienced this at one time

1763. or another when we're out there preaching the gospel

1764. and they're just like, man, I'm so thankful you came.

1765. You're just like, you're like an answer to prayer.

1766. And in fact, you know, I think it was this week

1767. we were out souling and I was with my family

1768. and, you know, we ran into some cholos.

1769. And these are some like major cholos.

1770. You guys know what cholos are, right?

1771. Gangsters, okay, a few white people.

  1772. Mexican gangsters, okay.

1773. And, you know, I'm talking about high socks,

1774. you know, no ankle socks.

1775. I'm talking about these were legit cholos, right?

1776. But, you know, I'm not biased.

1777. I'm not like, well, you know,

1778. I don't want no cholos to come to my church, you know.

1779. You know, I want them to come to my church

1780. but I also want them to be saved though, right?

1781. So I went up to them and there was like a group of,

1782. I think it was like five of them

1783. and some of them are young, some of them are older.

1784. And I started giving them the church invite

1785. and, you know, I was with my kids

1786. and then I gave them the question.

1787. They're just kind of like, they seemed disinterested at first.

1788. But then, you know, and it's easy when people,

1789. when you have a group like that, if they're disinterested

1790. that you just kind of like move on.

1791. You're just like, oh, I'm not going to waste my time.

1792. But I just said, well, you mind if I just spend a couple minutes

1793. showing you from the Bible

1794. how you can know for sure that you're going to go to heaven

  1795. when you die?

1796. And the oldest is like, do it.

1797. I want to hear this.

  1798. All right, cool.

1799. So I'm giving the gospel

1800. and, you know, halfway through

1801. like their countenance changes a little bit.

1802. Where, you know, one of them, one of them, you know,

1803. his eye kind of twitches a little bit.

1804. It was just kind of doing one of these, you know.

1805. I'm like, is he looking at me?

1806. But he was just like, you could see the light bulb going on.

1807. And especially when we talked about like eternal security,

1808. he's just like, oh, okay, yeah, oh man.

1809. You know, and they started softening up.

1810. So make a long story short, they ended up getting saved.

1811. You know, they called upon the name of the Lord.

1812. They believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.

1813. You know, they received Christ.

1814. They received the forgiveness of sins.

1815. And, you know, I spend a lot of time

1816. talking about the fact that you don't repent of your sins.

1817. You don't have to change your life to be saved

1818. because, you know, you never know

1819. if some of these guys went to like victory outreach or something.

1820. You just got to assume sometimes, you know.

1821. Because these cholo churches are often like

  1822. majorly repenting your sins.

  1823. It's a false gospel.

1824. So you just got to, it's like the way,

  1825. when you approach a Jehovah's Witness,

1826. you got to make sure they believe that Jesus is God, right?

1827. So, you know, and I realized later,

1828. I found out later, should I say, is that

1829. the guy, the older guy who accepted the invitation,

1830. he was actually the father of two of them.

1831. Okay, and the other one was like a neighbor.

1832. Now, four out of the five got saved.

1833. The neighbor didn't get saved.

1834. But I remember just talking to him and, you know,

1835. he's kind of like finishing the verses.

1836. And then, you know, he's like,

  1837. he's adhering to everything.

1838. And his sons were adhering to everything.

1839. They ended up getting saved.

1840. And then at the end of the conversation,

1841. you know, the dad said this.

1842. He said, you're like an answer to my prayers.

1843. Like you came here, like, it was the most profound thing

1844. I've ever heard of cholosei.

1845. You know what I mean?

1846. You don't really hear all the cholosei

1847. even speak deeply about stuff.

1848. You know what I mean?

1849. Like, he was just like, I saw blessing it.

  1850. You know, I don't know.

1851. He was just like, you came at the right time.

1852. Like, I feel like God made you come here right now.

1853. And I was just like, yeah, it's true.

1854. And I'm never, when someone tells me that,

1855. I'm not like, no, no, no, no.

1856. No, I'm like, yeah, that is true.

  1857. Because it is true.

1858. We're a saver of life into life.

1859. And he's just like, I feel like God brought you here.

1860. Now typically when I'm out with my family,

  1861. we're a sight because I have six kids

1862. and they're all very little.

1863. But Bro had me beat though.

  1864. He's like, I got 25 kids.

1865. I didn't ask him if it was from one or many.

1866. I'm like, oh, you beat me.

1867. And I say, I got six, but it's all from one.

1868. But how did he view me?

1869. He viewed me as someone who was a saver of life into life.

1870. And I spoke to many people that day

1871. who viewed me as a saver of death into death.

  1872. They rejected the gospel.

1873. The point being here is that holy things

1874. improves unholy things if that unholy person

1875. actually hears through the gospel

1876. and decides to get saved.

1877. And so if we were to put that cholo inside of a church,

1878. without salvation, it wouldn't help them much.

1879. We'd probably make them really mad.

1880. But now that he has salvation,

1881. if you were to come to a Bible-believing church,

1882. you would actually benefit from it.

1883. Go back to first Samuel, if you would.

  1884. Here's my last point.

1885. Point number one is that when you put holy things

1886. in unholy hands, it desecrates holy things.

1887. Point number two is that it doesn't improve unholy things.

1888. Point number three is that it destroys holy hands,

1889. meaning that the haemorrhoids come upon people.

  1890. They're just made miserable.

1891. They suffer the wrath of God.

1892. They end up getting destroyed because of it.

1893. And point number four is that holy things

1894. cannot be understood by unholy men.

  1895. And here's the thing.

1896. The only thing that an unholy person

1897. can't understand is the gospel.

1898. But anything outside of the gospel,

1899. anything else in the Bible, they cannot understand.

  1900. Meaning that unholy people

1901. can't come up with solutions to spiritual problems.

1902. Now look at verse one of chapter six.

1903. And the ark of the Lord was in the country of the Philistines

  1904. seven months.

1905. Dang, seven months, just haemorrhoids for seven months.

  1906. That sucks so bad.

1907. No physical activity can be done.

1908. And the Philistines called for the priest

1909. and the divine are saying,

1910. what shall we do to the ark of the Lord?

1911. Tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.

1912. And they said, if he send it away,

1913. if he send away the ark of the God of Israel,

1914. send it not empty, but in any ways return him

1915. a trespass offering, then ye shall be healed

1916. and it shall be known to you

1917. why his hand is not removed from you.

1918. So they're just like, hey, we gotta figure out

1919. how to get this thing back.

  1920. What should we do?

1921. And the diviners and the priests are just like,

1922. well, the most logical thing to do

1923. is just return it back to Israel.

1924. And then they're just like,

1925. but make sure you send it back with an offering though.

1926. Because we want to placate God here

1927. because he's the one who's smiting us with this.

  1928. Don't read ahead, don't read ahead.

  1929. Everyone look up here.

1930. Let me build up the story.

1931. So they want to placate the God of the Bible

1932. and so they're just like, send him a trespass offering.

1933. So you're reading this and you're just like,

1934. okay, these guys, they're coming up with a good solution here.

1935. Look down at verse number four,

1936. then say they, what shall be the trespass offering

1937. which we shall return to him?

1938. They answered five golden emeralds

  1939. and five golden mice.

1940. According to the number of the lords of the Philistines

1941. for one plague was on you all and on your lords.

  1942. Well, what?

1943. So they're just like, so what kind of offering do you suggest?

1944. Like a lamb offering, a drink offering

1945. because I know the Israelites do stuff like that.

1946. No, send them five golden hemorrhoids.

1947. So you think of the goldsmith who's responsible for this.

1948. I think about stuff like that,

1949. like all right, we need you to make five hemorrhoids

1950. and in case you need to know what it looks like.

  1951. Like what?

1952. And then there's five golden mice

1953. because we'll see later that basically

1954. these cities were plagued with mice as well.

1955. So on top of the deaths,

1956. on top of the hemorrhoids is you also have mice rampant

1957. and it's likely that if you have a large quantity of deaths

1958. the mice are coming into what?

  1959. To eat the corpses.

  1960. Because that happens.

  1961. That's an actual thing.

  1962. So this is miserable.

1963. So what a great idea, send it back with,

1964. imagine being the Israelite who received that.

1965. Like is this what I think it is?

  1966. Like are these hemorrhoids?

  1967. These fools are crazy.

1968. But this is what happens

1969. when you put holy things in unholy hands.

1970. Holy things cannot be understood by unholy people.

1971. You can't go to unsafe people for spiritual solutions.

  1972. What should we do?

  1973. Send them hemorrhoids.

  1974. Golden hemorrhoids.

  1975. That'll play K-God.

  1976. Golden mice, that'll play K-God.

1977. It's the stupidest thing ever.

1978. Oh man, I'm so sad.

  1979. What should I do?

  1980. Anti-depressants.

1981. Oh man, I feel so sad.

  1982. What should I do?

  1983. Drink alcohol.

  1984. Smoke marijuana.

  1985. Do drugs.

  1986. Do anti-depressants.

1987. Get medicated and you'll be fine.

1988. These are worldly solutions to spiritual problems.

1989. Oh this lady murdered her children.

  1990. What should we do?

1991. Stick her in an insane asylum.

1992. Or just give her life in prison.

1993. These are not the proper solutions to the problem.

1994. You can't rely upon, this is why it's nonsensical

1995. to rely upon the government for anything spiritual.

1996. To bring upon spiritual reformation.

1997. You can't rely upon the president of the United States

1998. to fix spiritual problems that doesn't work that way

  1999. because he's unsaved.

2000. Yeah, he could bring reform to the land for sure.

2001. Yeah, you know, leaders can bring reform to the land

2002. but we need transformation, not reformation.

  2003. It's a spiritual problem.

2004. You know, I've been reading a biography on J. Frank Norris recently

2005. who is considered the father of independent fundamental Baptist.

  2006. He's a great guy.

2007. He just did a lot of great works.

2008. Pastor of two of the largest churches

2009. that collectively made 25,000 in membership.

2010. You know, did a lot of great works.

2011. Fought against modernism and communism, evolution.

2012. Unfortunately, he was a Zionist.

2013. You know, he had a lot of problems in that area.

2014. He actually even had C.I. Schofield to come preach for him.

2015. And C.I. Schofield was largely responsible

2016. for converting him to dispensationalism.

2017. So he became a seven dispensation preacher

2018. but then eventually because he was reading the Bible

2019. he was like, this is stupid.

2020. So he was just like, and then he started preaching

2021. against C.I. Schofield and against the seven dispensations.

2022. But he kind of still remained kind of like a preacher or whatever.

2023. And you know, he did a lot of great works

2024. but unfortunately one of the downfalls,

2025. one of his weaknesses was that he thought

2026. the way you can save America is through the political realm.

2027. You know, just fighting off spiritual problems,

2028. making sure we get the right person in the White House.

2029. And you know, if we could just get the right person

2030. with the right values, it's going to fix everyone's problem.

2031. It doesn't work that way.

2032. It's not going to work that way.

2033. You're going to unsave people for spiritual solutions.

2034. You might as well just make five golden emeralds at that point.

2035. Five golden Trump statues or whatever

2036. as if that's going to help, you know, it's not going to help anything.

2037. You say, what's going to help the land?

2038. I'll tell you what, preaching the gospel

2039. and then preaching the Bible to those people

2040. who have gotten saved, making them righteous people.

2041. That's how you fix the land.

  2042. Okay.

2043. The point being here is that, you know,

  2044. these people can't understand.

2045. They're coming up with these weird solutions

  2046. to fix the problem.

2047. And you know what? The natural man received it

2048. not the things of the Spirit of God,

2049. for they are foolishness unto him,

2050. neither can he know him for their spiritually discerned,

2051. unto the wicked he saith,

2052. what is thou to do, you know, to take my covenant in thy mouth?

2053. Seeest thou, hate its instruction,

2054. and castest my words behind thee?

2055. You know, the Bible is saying, you know,

2056. we can't go to unsafe people

2057. to figure out what to do spiritually.

2058. We need to go to the Word of God.

2059. Okay. You know, these guys don't know

  2060. what they're talking about.

2061. They're coming up with weird solutions to these problems

2062. and it's just not going to work at all.

2063. And it reminds me of a story in Acts 19.

2064. You guys remember the seven sons of Sceva?

  2065. Okay.

2066. You know, the seven sons of Sceva

2067. were these Jews who were exorcists

2068. and they thought they can literally

2069. exercise demons by just saying

2070. like, I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.

2071. In other words, it's like, come out of him

2072. because we heard Paul talking about this Jesus

2073. and we're just using it.

2074. They're just kind of superstitious about it

2075. and the demon was just like, well, Paul I know

2076. and Jesus I know but who are you?

2077. That's got to be like the worst thing to hear.

  2078. And then, you know,

2079. the demon actually ends up whooping all seven of them

  2080. and stripping them naked

2081. and they just leave naked.

  2082. It's just completely embarrassed.

2083. It just humiliates them because, you know,

  2084. there are unholy people

2085. trying to use holy things

2086. as a way to accomplish something.

2087. It's not going to work.

2088. You're an unsafe person, you know,

2089. you can't put a Bible in the hand of an unsafe person

2090. expecting to learn anything from the Bible.

2091. And by the way, this is why we should never learn

  2092. the Bible from Jews.

  2093. Especially from Jews.

  2094. Like they crucified Christ.

2095. They take credit for crucifying Christ.

2096. You know, and, you know,

2097. but you expect to learn the Bible from,

2098. well, we just got to get the cultural context from Jews.

2099. They're going to lie about it.

  2100. You can't trust Jews

  2101. with biblical knowledge

2102. especially if they've rejected the source of truth

  2103. which is Jesus Christ.

2104. Now let's finish off here.

2105. Look down at your Bibles at verse number seven.

  2106. It says,

2107. Now therefore make a new cart

2108. and take two milch kind

2109. on which there hath not come no yoke

2110. and tie the kind to the cart

2111. and bring their calves home from them.

2112. And take the ark of the Lord and lay it upon the cart

2113. and put the jewels of gold

2114. which ye return him for a trespass offering

2115. and a coffer by the side thereof

2116. and send it away that it may go.

2117. And see, if it goeth up by the way

2118. of his own coast to Beth Shemesh,

2119. then he hath done us this great evil.

2120. But if not, then we shall know

2121. that it is not his hand that smote us.

2122. It was a chance that happened to us.

2123. So they basically send it off

  2124. by these milch kind.

2125. They're sending the ark of God

2126. and then later on we see that it goes by the narrow way, right?

2127. It goes through a narrow pass.

2128. And I believe what the Bible is trying to teach us here

2129. is the fact that, you know,

2130. in order to fix problems,

  2131. spiritual problems,

2132. you got to go through the narrow way.

2133. And what is the narrow way? Jesus Christ, right?

2134. Like it's not through the haemorrhoids,

2135. the golden haemorrhoids, the golden mice.

2136. It's through the Lord Jesus Christ.

2137. Solutions are through Christ alone.

  2138. You know what?

2139. The Bible, Jesus Christ Christianity

2140. has a lot that can benefit this world

2141. even without Christ to a certain degree.

2142. Because, you know, it just has so many beneficial principles

2143. and valuable principles that people can learn from.

2144. Nations have benefited from the residual blessings

2145. that comes from just the Bible and Christians,

2146. even if they're not the ones obeying it.

2147. I mean, yeah, people in this nation

2148. who are being blessed of God,

2149. not because God is blessing them,

2150. but because they're experiencing the residual blessing

2151. that comes upon Christians within this nation.

2152. But at the end of the day,

2153. which of the Prophet, the man of the fish,

2154. they shall gain the whole world,

  2155. lose their own soul.

2156. And so at the end of the day,

  2157. they need Christ, right?

2158. The solution is Jesus Christ.

2159. The point being here is that

2160. holy things in unholy hands

  2161. profits them nothing

2162. if they don't go through Jesus Christ first, okay?

  2163. And you know what?

2164. There's tons of people out there

2165. who claim to be Christian,

  2166. claim to be saved,

2167. don't have the right gospel.

  2168. And you know what?

2169. They may be living just decent lives.

2170. They may be successful in their business.

  2171. Why?

2172. Because the residual of just the Bible itself,

2173. the blessings of the Bible,

  2174. can benefit anybody's life.

2175. But at the end of the day,

  2176. that soon shall pass.

2177. And when that's over with,

2178. the only thing that matters is what?

2179. Is the soul and where it's going to go.

2180. And so believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, right?

2181. And then you can benefit from all the blessings

2182. and realize that was a bad idea.

2183. You know, five golden hemorrhoids.

  2184. Who thought of that?

  2185. Okay?

2186. And here's the last point

2187. that I want to make that I almost forgot here,

2188. is that you have to understand

2189. something about these unholy people.

  2190. You're like, oh man,

2191. he's kind of rough, you know?

2192. Just kind of criticizing the Philistines.

2193. They just didn't know any better.

2194. Well, the priest actually said,

2195. didn't you hear what took place in Egypt

2196. when God did this to the Egyptians?

2197. That's hundreds of years before that.

2198. So they're very much familiar with

2199. the plagues of the Bible,

  2200. the works of God,

2201. what he did to Egypt.

2202. They knew all about that.

  2203. And still they said,

  2204. golden hemorrhoids,

  2205. that's the solution.

  2206. Why?

2207. Because people without Christ are stupid.

  2208. Let's pray.

2209. Father, we thank you so much for your word.

2210. I pray that you would help us as your people

2211. to recognize that we are a saver of life

2212. and to life, death and to death.

2213. And I pray that Lord,

2214. you would help us to continue

2215. to get more people saved.

2216. Lord, that they would come

2217. to the saving knowledge of Christ.

2218. And recognize that the Bible can profit people.

  2219. Yes, it's true,

2220. but only so far as

2221. where they placed their faith in for salvation.

2222. And I pray that you bless us

2223. as we go on our way.

2224. Help us not soon forget

2225. the principles we learned tonight

  2226. in Jesus' name.
