  1. well it's really great to be back and uh

  2. thank you all for the uh very gracious

  3. welcome and uh we miss everyone and

  4. we've been just been really so blessed

  5. and happy New Year everybody uh I pray

  6. that this new year will be a time where

  7. we experiencing new Grace and new growth

  8. in Christ I pray that in the New Year we

  9. will continue to grow in increasing

  10. likeness to the life of Jesus and that

  11. we we will walk and live and love love

  12. God and love people was a new passion as

  13. we walk in the newness of life and so

  14. it's really great to be back and uh

  15. feeling refreshed and very blessed uh

  16. jump right back into things um sabatico

  17. you know it's a real Precious and a

  18. generous uh gift from the Lord and for

  19. our church uh so we got to do a little

  20. bit of travel uh in in Asia Japan and

  21. Korea visit a family in in Taiwan uh got

  22. to attend a missions conference uh did a

  23. family cruise with friends and uh um and

  24. uh helped do some uh uh overdue uh uh

  25. Family House repair and housework uh

  26. decluttering my desk and office um

  27. reconnected with some old friends I

  28. haven't seen for quite some time uh also

  29. I had some uh extended uh quiet time to

  30. uh read a few really good books that

  31. really uh loved and uh also uh got a

  32. chance to join the uh the CMC uh

  33. conference um in Baltimore with our kids

  34. so so thankful so thankful for this gift

  35. gift uh not possible without your love

  36. and and your prayer and support grateful

  37. for our church leadership and all of you

  38. in this blessing uh thank you I thank

  39. the leaders of our church and other

  40. staff for covering for me uh in my

  41. absence so it's it's really great to be

  42. back thank you pray for me I just kind

  43. of jump right back into the uh into

  44. things and so we're beginning the new

  45. year with a four-part series on on

  46. Vision which we always do uh and we've

  47. been doing this Vision set started last

  48. year was all about expanding the tent

  49. and so I call this series call to

  50. expanding the tent uh we wanted to

  51. really kind of review our vision frame

  52. if you remember the vision frame which

  53. includes the the parts of mission our

  54. mission statement our core values our

  55. our marks or discipleship and our

  56. journey so we want to connecting the

  57. four sides of the vision frame of how

  58. they support how they uh connect with

  59. the vision expanding the 10 and so today

  60. I want to start us out by just kind of

  61. connecting the mission statement with

  62. our vision so that's what we're going to

  63. do how we receive the mission and vision

  64. together but to start I I just want us

  65. to pray ask God for his uh for his

  66. Blessing and uh and our time together as

  67. he speak to us let's let's pray

  68. together Lord we thank you and praise

  69. you for your love for us thank you for

  70. being so good to us thank you for a new

  71. year a new beginning a fresh start and

  72. so we pray Lord that may your spirit

  73. does do a new work does a new work in

  74. our hearts in our relationships in our

  75. love for you thank you Lord for our

  76. church thank you for each and every

  77. person here and we ask Lord that that

  78. your spirit speak deeply into our hearts

  79. that we may receive this new Grace as we

  80. walk in this new year together we love

  81. you Lord in Jesus name we pray

  82. amen we want to talk about receiving our

  83. mission and vision and so first of all

  84. just kind of differentiate and clarify

  85. some things that some of you know this

  86. well and some of you sometimes gets a

  87. little confused using sounds about the

  88. same we say vision is a gift from God

  89. that presents us with a picture of the

  90. future um for Abraham uh God gave him a

  91. vision of becoming the the father of

  92. Faith whose descendants the lord gave

  93. him this picture what will be as

  94. numerous as the stars in the sky or the

  95. sands on the

  96. seashore for Moses and Israel the Lord

  97. gave them a vision of the promise land a

  98. land a place a land of Freedom where

  99. there will be a land of flowing with

  100. milk and honey and so we see that vision

  101. is is picture it's it's a it's a picture

  102. that that we can't quite see with Naked

  103. Eyes here of the future that that will

  104. inspire us to follow into that

  105. future in Proverbs 29 18 it says that

  106. you know U without Vision the people

  107. perish and so because we need Vision

  108. like we need hope and direction in life

  109. for is the picture of the future that

  110. gives us and motivates us to move and

  111. Aspire us so Vision really is a

  112. compelling picture of the future

  113. inspiring us to to

  114. follow and we have said that this vision

  115. for us this 10 year Vision or expanding

  116. 10 was grounded in Isaiah chapter 54 and

    Isaiah 54 chapter mention

  117. in Isaiah chap 54 2:3 is enlarge the

  118. place of your tent and let them stretch

  119. out the curtains of your dwellings do

  120. not spare lengthen your core and and

  121. strengthen your Stakes for you shall

  122. expand to the right and to the left and

  123. your descendants will inherit the

  124. Nations and make the desolate cities

  125. inhabited and so this vision for us in

  126. the next 10 years we're praying that we

  127. would deepen our Christian formation gr

  128. deeper in love with Christ as God's

  129. family strengthening our kingdom

  130. identity as a missional church that's

  131. our mission with God and that to and

  132. that we will together re bring the

  133. gospel who reach out to the less reach

  134. the UN underserved communities both

  135. locally and

  136. globally so that we may have see Kingdom

  137. multiplications in the next 10 years by

  138. if God allows we want to planting 10

  139. churches uh overseas and locally it

  140. sounds like a daunting vision and we

  141. want to raise up not just any churches

  142. we want to raise up faithful Bible Bible

  143. teaching gospel preaching and

  144. reproducing churches that will continue

  145. to plant churches because we

  146. believe that it requires all kinds of

  147. churches to reach all kinds of people

  148. and that and that we need for new

  149. churches in new places to reach the next

  150. Generations and and all the various

  151. people and people groups so this is a

  152. vision about mat

  153. ation and

  154. multiplication and and the journey that

  155. we have already we believe that we have

  156. started on since the very beginning of

  157. this church in some sense um this church

  158. was planted back in 1991 as a church

  159. plan and I still remember when we didn't

  160. have a building we were just in a rental

  161. uh office uh office building across the

  162. tollway and how we have always kind to

  163. pray that one day we will get to plan

  164. churches as well and over the years that

  165. we have got a chance to plant the katd

  166. church we I got a chance to plant the

  167. access church we planted to the north

  168. Houston church over in the woodlands and

  169. even overseas in East Asia The Living

  170. Water Church and and and we have we have

  171. rejoiced in seeing what God is doing

  172. when we get to multiply for him and so

  173. this Vision we believe is represent a

  174. continuation about how to deepen our

  175. lives and how to continue to be fruitful

  176. for

  177. God over Christmas Eve our family came

  178. back for Christmas Eve service here and

  179. then right afterwards we kind of took

  180. off right away because we rushed out to

  181. uh to try to go to Katie to catch their

  182. Christmas Eve service which started at

  183. like at 7 so we left right away because

  184. we went because uh not only because you

  185. know we want to see that but also

  186. because uh they were doing their first

  187. uh uh Christmas Eve uh pageant and and

  188. my friend Pastor way Limb and his whole

  189. family were in there so I said oh wait

  190. you know uh so we're not going to miss

  191. that so we rushed out there and it was

  192. so was so cool and it you know a lot of

  193. work and some of you who have been here

  194. a long time ago we used to have sometime

  195. a used Orchestra here so they had a used

  196. Orchestra and the whole works and I just

  197. felt so

  198. grateful so grateful to see that that

  199. church has become a a vibrant strong

  200. church and growing and I just felt like

  201. wow that we got to be all of us we got

  202. to be our giving our prayers our sending

  203. we got to be part of that the expanding

  204. of God's tent to reach

  205. people and in fact um this morning uh in

  206. our Chinese service we just commissioned

  207. our our former Chinese Elder uh Jeffrey

  208. B and and his wife uh Janet uh to uh go

  209. back to Germany where um S one of our

  210. our our our church members have been

  211. going out there three months at a time

  212. to help starting a new church in englad

  213. Germany englad you in case you never

  214. heard of it it's not a major city city

  215. in Germany but it's uh uh but it's it's

  216. also the where the headquarter of Audi

  217. is and uh and and was just starting a

  218. work there and trying to plant a new

  219. church there and I was just rejoiced to

  220. see our Elder leaving tomorrow their

  221. family to go there for another three

  222. months to support the the Believers

  223. there and TR to reach out to the people

  224. and and last night I was had a chance to

  225. be uh joining uh our our small group our

  226. um cypress tree small group in Cyprus

  227. this is a small group that was birthed

  228. in the pandemic and how um that group is

  229. getting ready to uh to go into group

  230. birth and uh as the beginning of a

  231. future work that we hope to see in

  232. Cypress

  233. Texas and as I feel like God Is On The

  234. Move already for us this dream will

  235. continue to multiply in the kingdom of

  236. God and I'm just just rejoice and be

  237. grateful and so going back to this

  238. Vision frame we talk about the frame the

  239. frame the vision frame is is something

  240. I've kind of learned as a staff dur

  241. during the pandemic actually so the FR

  242. of the four sides of the friend the

  243. mission tells us that what are we going

  244. to do the values tells us about what

  245. motivates us the the marks shows what

  246. our disciples will look like what will

  247. be the marks of discipleship and our

  248. journey how will we get there what will

  249. be our journey like and so the in the

  250. next of in the this this week this this

  251. four-part series we're going to look at

  252. each side of that of that frame and then

  253. how that each side of the frame connect

  254. to the picture in the frame which the

  255. picture is the vision for the church is

  256. expanding the 10 vision and so the first

  257. I just want looking at how we were

  258. deepening our walk toward maturity

  259. because you know um of all the stories

  260. in the Bible uh and there are many

  261. stories that that really moves my heart

  262. I don't know what would be one of the U

  263. the scene or picture in in the in the

  264. biblical stories that move your hearts

  265. the

  266. most and for me has always been uh in

  267. the New Testament uh of course besides

  268. the Jesus dying on the cross will be the

  269. the the story of the prodigal son when

  270. he came

  271. home and for me um um I just felt like

  272. it's it's just a such a

  273. incredible gracious heart of the father

  274. I was just thinking about you know if

  275. that was happening to me you know would

  276. I just kind of run now and and hug or

  277. would I actually be kind of like you

  278. know I want to see some apology

  279. for all the all the wrong thing that was

  280. done and some some repentance and for

  281. but but the Father's Heart was just

  282. motiv went not and ran after him and

  283. Luke 15 so it says while he was still a

  284. long way off the father saw him and felt

  285. compassion and ran embraced and kissed

  286. him and recently I came across Psalm 51

  287. and I feel Psalm 5 connected this is

  288. from the message it says and and you

  289. welcome us with open arms when we Run

  290. for Cover to you let the party last all

  291. night stand guard over our celebration I

  292. almost feel like this Psalm is kind of a

  293. little bit kind of a description of the

  294. of of that that welcome you know one of

  295. the most incredible thing in the Bible

  296. is is the is the is the Divine welcome

  297. for

  298. us so so today my three parts here is

  299. going to just going to take the first

  300. part of our mission steming welcome

  301. soldier's home I'm going to take each

  302. part each word welcome soldier's home

  303. just looking at each one a little more

  304. closely so this idea give a

  305. welcome it's the most incredible

  306. reception and welcome is unlike any

  307. welcome in the world even though our

  308. world knows how to throw a party our

  309. world knows how to do welcome pretty

  310. well but you know what's the difference

  311. between the biblical Christian welcome

  312. from the Lord that we can extend to each

  313. other

  314. also it is fundamentally

  315. different it's this

  316. the biblical welcome is extended even to

  317. those who are

  318. unworthy in fact it is extended very

  319. much extended to the people who are

  320. unworthy anybody can throw a party for

  321. people who we love and welcome and good

  322. friends but Jesus welcome is for the

  323. strangers and

  324. unworthy and and and that welcome it's

  325. an incredible thing have you ever

  326. received generous compassionate

  327. unexpected

  328. welcome um I I think I actually share

  329. the story one time uh uh sh and I we

  330. were our flights one coming back from

  331. from East Coast uh got delayed so we

  332. rerouted to Chicago we were weary and

  333. tired we thought we're going to have a

  334. direct flight to Houston but then we

  335. ended up in Chicago and then we're still

  336. waiting and then we were just really

  337. tired and just really felt like having

  338. some warm soup and so but but we

  339. couldn't find any places that I had soup

  340. and so so we found a a United Club there

  341. and so we thought we go in there and pay

  342. and we found out how much it cost to go

  343. into United Club I had one pass and then

  344. so so she to go in and so she refuses to

  345. go in say unless we both go in so I said

  346. I pay but then she refused for me to pay

  347. so I just really frustrated and so we

  348. there and and so uh and so talking and

  349. then so we was just having this

  350. conversation right in front of the the

  351. the desk there and so the lady said said

  352. oh find out our situation so then she

  353. just said she said you

  354. know why don't you just coming using

  355. your has and your wife will be my

  356. personal guest at the club I was like

  357. whoa you know and so we just like man

  358. how about unexpected welcome you know

  359. and I just say in fact you know that

  360. many uh we have another students here

  361. many of our people our church as uh

  362. immigrant students or International

  363. students coming to this country you know

  364. how they came to know Jesus is because

  365. they received

  366. gracious

  367. unexpected Christian welcome and

  368. received and see people's home receive

  369. he said why would these people go to

  370. Second M to pick us up to welcome us to

  371. help us out to help us get a car help us

  372. get settled in this welcome and

  373. hospitality is is crucially important in

  374. the gospel because ever since Adam and

  375. Eve fell into sin and lost their ways

  376. and lost their place in the Garden of

  377. Eden one of the deepest places of human

  378. human needs one of the deepest desire

  379. and craving of the human heart is this

  380. Longing To Be

  381. received regardless of how successful or

  382. how struggling that you may be even the

  383. most successful person fearful of the

  384. fact overnight maybe you would people no

  385. longer receive us the the people who

  386. follow me on the on the Instagram and

  387. and Facebook

  388. disappeared that the Longing To Be feel

  389. received dve so many of

  390. us but ultimately what we truly long for

  391. is to be received by our maker Our God

  392. and so as we we just taken our first

  393. communion the new year you know every

  394. communion every communion is a powerful

  395. powerful reminder of the reception of

  396. the gracious receiving of Christ for us

  397. who are unworthy we who were actually at

  398. odds and this and and rejected God was

  399. graciously received and the at the cost

  400. at the cost of his own son so every

  401. communion is a gracious reception and

  402. welcome for us coming home to

  403. God so Romans 15 then tells us in Romans

    Romans 15:7

  404. 15:7 said

  405. therefore welcome one another as Christ

  406. has welcomed you for the glory of God it

  407. says that those who re received Christ's

  408. welcome those who take this communion

  409. those who know that our sins are

  410. forgiven that we have become part we're

  411. no longer just Wanderers and and and and

  412. and homeless spiritually but that we've

  413. been received in this family we too

  414. now extends God's welcome we too are to

  415. receive and welcome one another in NIV

  416. it says accept one another and Ne says

  417. receive and ESV uses the word welcome it

  418. all embodied the full nuances of this

  419. word and that's how we are to receive

  420. one another just as we've been received

  421. by Christ and welcomed by Christ and so

  422. in this imagery and about how to do this

  423. this is not an easy thing to do is it is

  424. it easy to receive others and welcome

  425. other as Christ received us no that's

  426. actually a really challenging to grow

  427. and I hope that's something that we all

  428. continue to grow in the new year but but

  429. one of the things I felt like this this

  430. the the deeper we want to grow in this

  431. area the more we need to work on this

  432. and so so and so just as the Isaiah 54

  433. passage talked about the extending of

  434. this tent to provide coverage and

  435. shelter for those around us and not just

  436. look after

  437. ourselves requires a lengthening of our

  438. cords and a deepening of our stakes and

  439. so because for the for the for the tent

  440. to be able to open wider you need a

  441. deeper tent so that this tent can

  442. withhold it will stand against the wind

  443. and so that deeper T represents a Deeper

  444. Life and spiritual maturity that's

  445. needed and there's very few things that

  446. help us to do that better than to get

  447. serious with the word of God in our

  448. lives and that's what I want to talk a

  449. little bit about this right now um you

  450. know uh reading the scripture on a daily

  451. basis is is a is something that I'm

  452. grateful that God started in my life my

  453. during my junior year in college that

  454. goes all the way way back to uh

  455. 1986 my my first year of finishing

  456. reading through the scripture I I was

  457. deep convicted that that even though

  458. being a Christian for most of my life

  459. I've never even read through the New

  460. Testament and so God convicted me I read

  461. through the Bible that year uh was a lot

  462. of mercy of God and and I felt that that

  463. really actually uh if if you were there

  464. at at the CMC and heard my message

  465. sharing about I receiv my call I really

  466. felt like the my ability to to hear that

  467. call is connected to that prior to that

  468. that whole year I was in the word of God

  469. and God was continually speaking into my

  470. heart and and so the the um and so and

  471. that has since then become a pattern of

  472. life for

  473. me and I would just actually say that if

  474. we really believe what the word of God

  475. has to say when it you know scripture

  476. talks about Jesus talks about uh the

  477. word of God is as important as our fol

  478. uh and if we truly believe that I would

  479. say that the daily feeding in the word

  480. of God is not a

  481. bonus is not to get ahead it is is

  482. essential for our

  483. survival and I would dare say that many

  484. Believers today lead

  485. malnourish spiritual life because they

  486. don't eat spiritually and take King

  487. God's word and while we Rejoice people

  488. come to church on Sunday and worship and

  489. hear a

  490. message that's just not

  491. enough that's not enough the CH for the

  492. challenge we face at school or at

  493. workplace or we're relating with our

  494. families and so that's why I want to

  495. encourage you to do this don't wait you

  496. can do this um you know they say you

  497. know how much time it takes to read

  498. through the New Testament they it takes

  499. about 21 hours to read through the new

  500. testament which comes down to about 3 to

  501. 5 minutes of reading a day and you know

  502. how much time it takes to read the whole

  503. entire

  504. Bible Well they they estimate about 100

  505. hours which come down to about 15 to 20

  506. minutes a day and honest truth is I easy

  507. easily just you know just looking at my

  508. phone you know just kind of sitting

  509. there just easily you know 30 minutes is

  510. gone just from you know scrolling

  511. through my phone and looking through

  512. things and so and so I want to just

  513. encourage us that uh I think we have

  514. that slide we have a come up with a

  515. great PL uh a great Bible reading plan

  516. uh start a little bit it's it's like

  517. it's like a fay plan I love the U verion

  518. plan because I feel like first it's on

  519. your phone so so you have a window to

  520. read it if it didn't catch you in the

  521. morning you can you can catch it five

  522. minutes five to 10 minutes and read it

  523. um and and the second thing is is I

  524. found that reading it in community is

  525. this is not just your personal uh uh

  526. Endeavor read it with a group of belie

  527. fellow Believers you know small group

  528. with a couple friends and then

  529. encouraging each other using the app by

  530. uh by reading to in community praying it

  531. after read I I encourage you as you read

  532. it uh just you just need to catch one

  533. verse that particularly speak into your

  534. heart and turn it into a prayer for your

  535. life and say Lord Jesus please help so

  536. that this Words which touch my heart

  537. today becomes a reality in my life help

  538. me to obey this help me to live this out

  539. help me to experience this today and

  540. pray the word that you you read so read

  541. it together praying it in your in your

  542. heart and then share it with someone if

  543. you share it with someone just even just

  544. sharing that verse with another friend

  545. or just post something in your read in

  546. the you verion plan that you read that

  547. it deepens the impacts the word in your

  548. heart so it's such a powerful tool to do

  549. this I really want to encourage you to

  550. do this I also want to say one more

  551. thing thing I've discovered is that most

  552. a lot of people uh you know have tried

  553. something like this before but kind of

  554. Midway to you know just kind of you know

  555. kind of faltered and and stop you don't

  556. need to raise your hand because we are a

  557. church of Grace you don't need to raise

  558. your hand uh but but but the truth is we

  559. all have struggled before but I would

  560. say this one tip I have for you is this

  561. if you're

  562. reading and if you fell

  563. behind three days or

  564. more here's the

  565. trick don't buy doing any makeup

  566. readings just jump right to the current

  567. day just let the other days go God's

  568. grace will bring those words into to you

  569. in another day but the the the whole

  570. idea of trying to make up for lost

  571. ground is what after a little while

  572. you're behind like by three days you're

  573. behind by five days you're behind by 10

  574. days and I say I can't do it you know I

  575. just stop so if you fall behind 3 days

  576. just don't invite to do the makeup work

  577. just kind of jump to the thir current

  578. day and finish it so I'm praying for all

  579. you to that I pray that a lot of our

  580. people will step in so far in the

  581. Chinese service I think we have like

  582. over 150 people that's kind of signed

  583. out for the two reading plan and I'm

  584. encouraging to to you as as a a met

  585. congregation even our

  586. youth you will never you will not regret

  587. investing your time in the word of God

  588. you will not believe the power how the

  589. word of God unleashes in changing and

  590. transform our lives so I want to

  591. encourage you to do that as we deepen

  592. our our our uh Stakes we grow deep

  593. deeper into God's welcoming and God's

  594. heart so the next word I want to talk

  595. about is Soldier ners caring for Soldier

  596. ners that's around us um in and so uh um

  597. in Isaiah 54 when it talk about this

  598. increasing the size of the T enlarging

  599. the tent it's really about it's idea

  600. about enlarging family you know of they

  601. they are they are people of the tents so

  602. if the family gets larger they need more

  603. tents so more tent to space to to

  604. welcome others and so you know during

  605. holiday times you know I was receive

  606. this uh uh uh Christmas cards and family

  607. pictures and here's a here's a great

  608. picture I Reed from our former Elder

  609. Andrew Moy and his family uh uh Elder

  610. Elder Andrew Moy uh has left us for

  611. quite some time now but we're still

  612. close friends and um seven kids and one

  613. son-in-law in this family picture uh

  614. quite a family and I just always say

  615. Andrew you're a blessed man who quiver

  616. full of arrows you know in in Psalm 127

  617. it described large family as arrows you

  618. know a warrior was quiver full of arrows

  619. so Andrew a very blessed man

  620. no very few of us will have that kind of

  621. blessing like Andre may get to have you

  622. know that kind that size of family

  623. however the extending the 10 Vision

  624. expanding the 10 vision is not just

  625. about physical descendants but it's

  626. really about this Spirit expansion of

  627. our spiritual family and the truth is

  628. every one of us can have spiritual

  629. Offspring through the way we care and

  630. love and bring people inviting people

  631. into the family of God Amen everyone in

  632. fact my prayer for all of us is that

  633. every one of us will have the joy of

  634. seeing and leading people in our family

  635. in our neighborhood in our friends in

  636. our co-workers and leading and loving

  637. them and caring them and bring them to

  638. know to know Christ I still always

  639. remember this one family that came to

  640. know Christ the entire family got

  641. baptized here in meta how how is started

  642. with a member a one of our members uh

  643. who staying late at work and and the uh

  644. the the the cleaning lady that was

  645. helping clean out the office looked uh

  646. sad and so she asked me you know you

  647. know you doing okay you look kind of sad

  648. and and the cleaning lady opened up her

  649. her heart and shared about what she was

  650. struggling with and so this uh this

  651. sister from our church U prayed for her

  652. started caring for her led her to Christ

  653. and later on welcome her her husband to

  654. their family and then later on and led

  655. the whole family to Christ that whole

  656. family was baptized in this church and

  657. so I was just always find that it all

  658. started with just what was just caring

  659. for somebody caring for somebody right

  660. here that God has placed around us and

  661. that's what about the the the heart for

  662. the solders around us and so I pick up

  663. the same from Rosario Butterfield's book

  664. uh about a gospel comes with house key

  665. is about how the our our heart and

  666. passion is to turn strangers into

  667. neighbors and Neighbors into the family

  668. of God and and that's and that's what

  669. God's calling for us to do and you know

  670. u i a friend shared with me this the

  671. saying from Dr Seuss you know actually

  672. when I was growing I actually really

  673. didn't read a whole lot of Dr Seuss but

  674. I thought this Dr Seuss saying was

  675. really kind of touched me and it says

  676. something like this how many of you have

  677. actually read a lot of Dr Su growing up

  678. okay a lot of you read it says this he

  679. says this he said to the world you may

  680. be one person but to one person you may

  681. be the world

  682. and I just thought whoo you know that's

  683. a really cool

  684. saying because the honest troes a lot of

  685. times sometimes we think you know I'm

  686. just one person I'm not even very

  687. outgoing you know I'm not the most uh

  688. you know I can that the greatest person

  689. I I make him friends and everybody but

  690. you know something when we just are

  691. willing to care for another person by

  692. the love of God one person could be the

  693. world to another person in leading that

  694. person to to enter into the world of

  695. Jesus Christ and received into the

  696. family of God and so I want to just

  697. encourage us that how we can care for

  698. solders and then the next part the last

  699. part here I'm losing control of Time

  700. coming back haven't preached for so long

  701. have no good control of time it's about

  702. reordering our home for the sake of our

  703. mission so welcoming soj home we were

  704. talk about welcome we talk about so want

  705. to talk about home there's a crucial

  706. assumption

  707. here and the assumption is

  708. this that people actually want to come

  709. home

  710. that the home is actually a good place

  711. for people to come

  712. to and the truth is our world is a

  713. pretty broken place today and I and I

  714. saw this article last year in the in the

  715. uh uh it's a New Yorker article it's

  716. called why so many people are going no

  717. contact with their

  718. parents oh that's a sad heading I was

  719. like man that's

  720. sad you heard about the the cancel

  721. culture well this is cancer culture

  722. going to overdrive into like basically

  723. including family members and even

  724. parents and or kids where you know if if

  725. you know we irritate each other we

  726. frustrate each other you know just no

  727. more contact forget it we just cut off

  728. you may even know people or even could

  729. God forbid have family member who who in

  730. that who just don't want to commun

  731. communication don't send me don't don't

  732. contact me we don't want to we don't

  733. want to hear from you you don't I'm not

  734. going to contact you that's just such a

  735. sad thing I was just say man the

  736. terrible condition of painful painful

  737. relationship in the famili causing

  738. people when relationship becomes so

  739. unbearable that people increasingly are

  740. doing the

  741. unthinkable canceling our

  742. families that's why I think in this

  743. mission to welcome Soul's home we not

  744. only need to learn how to do the Divine

  745. Christian welcome not only we need to

  746. have a heart to care for the Souljers we

  747. need to also think about what kind of

  748. home do we do here what kind of home in

  749. our own family what kind of home as a

  750. church we do you know I know a number of

  751. Global Partners or missionaries they say

  752. that one of the most powerful thing that

  753. they they that that impacting people

  754. when they're out there in other culture

  755. is when people see how their families

  756. interact with each other when they saw

  757. these Christian families and Global

  758. Partners families and the way they

  759. respect each other the way they love

  760. each other not Perfect by seeing the way

  761. how they come together they see they

  762. just how do you do it we want to know

  763. more about that they're interested

  764. because our home life the way we do our

  765. marriage the way we do our friendship

  766. the way we love one another is one of

  767. the most attractive most powerful thing

  768. that that help others to say you know

  769. how do you do it and we tell them it's

  770. not some secret it's Jesus is changing

  771. us a lot of times what we find out is

  772. that we ourselves and we're not doing

  773. families as well as would Li to and I

  774. disc discover that for

  775. myself you know

  776. because life is

  777. dynamic and family therefore is also

  778. Dynamic it's being Dynamic meaning it is

  779. is continually being renewed and growing

  780. it cannot become Static once it become

  781. Static just maintaining a certain form

  782. then we become

  783. dead and

  784. um sometimes we we hold on to the past

  785. and not realizing that we need to change

  786. and grow sometimes we're blinded to the

  787. fact we have our own quirks and our bad

  788. habits and the way we treat each other

  789. that is not god-honoring

  790. like for instance for

  791. me forgetting that I'm at home and

  792. thinking that I'm still on the

  793. pulpit and so continue my my monologue

  794. of preaching at home when that's not

  795. needed at

  796. home

  797. um a home that can welcome the next

  798. Generations to come home requires

  799. continual renewal of our roles and

  800. relationship the renewing work of the

  801. Holy Spirit to continue to change us and

  802. grow us whether it be receiving our

  803. children or even caring for our parents

  804. in both of those ways we we need we need

  805. to continue work of the spirit to renew

  806. us and that's why I would say here that

  807. may God give us the grace to renew our

  808. home our home life and renew our church

  809. our small groups so that we're not just

  810. keep doing the same thing and thinking

  811. well you know we're doing pretty well

  812. but realize how can we become place so

  813. that become the winon place that where

  814. people can sense the love of Jesus

  815. moving among us where the compassion of

  816. God is

  817. here I've caught

  818. myself you a very difficult way finding

  819. that I'm much more into

  820. Corrections than

  821. compassion and I find that that it's the

  822. area that I need to

  823. grow because I find I I tend to jump to

  824. one to

  825. correct inste I want be able to show

  826. Christlike

  827. compassion and so we all need that we

  828. need God's word to renew our home so

  829. that our home is the kind of place that

  830. can welcome Soul Jor home it is the kind

  831. of welcoming blessing place and so God

  832. give us Grace and maybe you will be

  833. convicted to see that what we in our

  834. home life in our relationship that we

  835. need that renewing work of God to

  836. transform our home life and transform

  837. our church

  838. together so

  839. welcoming how can we capture the gospel

  840. welcome heart soul Jers how do we

  841. remember that we all started solders and

  842. how do we have just to care for the

  843. solders god already placed right around

  844. us and

  845. home how do we do home life in this new

  846. year with the grace of God so we can

  847. become the home that could truly be

  848. welcoming to the solders around

  849. us may the God's love compel us as we

  850. come together would you join me in

  851. prayer

  852. Lord we uh we need

  853. you thank you for a new year thank you

  854. for a new beginning thank you Lord for

  855. for communion thank you Lord that for

  856. your gospel

  857. welcome you PID the ultimate price to

  858. welcome us home to

  859. you forgiving our

  860. sins and and your blood become the cover

  861. for our

  862. sins Lord you know our Brokenness you

  863. know our self-centeredness you know our

  864. struggles but Lord but you have called

  865. us as a church from the youngest to the

  866. oldest to expand our

  867. tent to welcome Souljers

  868. home help us oh Lord help us so that we

  869. all compelled by your love to become

  870. Lord your hands and

  871. feet as we continue come on ourselves

  872. and welcoming the solders that you have

  873. placed in our lives

  874. we love you Lord thank you for being a

  875. glorious and mighty

  876. God we long for

  877. you give us a Grace to deepen our Stakes

  878. deeply so that your word Transforming

  879. Our Hearts and the way we live life this

  880. new year in Jesus name we pray amen
