  1. welcome morning church uh thank you for

  2. praying for us um and keeping us um uh

  3. in mind and before the Lord uh as we

  4. leave and uh yeah we're we're excited um

  5. some unknowns but uh we hope to be able

  6. to give um a report of what God is doing

  7. back after we come

  8. back uh we're going to be in Luke

  9. chapter two but before we turn there um

  10. you know we've been in the midst of a

  11. sermon series refreshing our vision

  12. frame um how our mission our values our

  13. marks and our journey connect to our

  14. 10-year vision of expanding the tent and

  15. so this morning we'll be covering the

  16. connection between the marks of being a

  17. follower of Jesus uh to our 10year

  18. vision and so we're going to take a look

  19. primarily at Luke Chapter 252 but as we

  20. cover each Mark we're going to have some

  21. scripture so um there's going to be some

  22. Bible uh a lot of Bible passages this

  23. morning but the one that we'll read

  24. together um uh is Luke Chapter 252 so

  25. please stand with me uh for the reading

  26. of his word uh Luke 252 it's one verse

  27. um probably one of the shortest

  28. scripture readings we'll have um but uh

  29. Luke 252 so read join with me and Jesus

  30. increased in wisdom and in stature and

  31. in favor with God and man

  32. this is the word of the Lord thanks be

  33. to God you may be

  34. seated let's pray

  35. together Holy Father we come before you

  36. um humbled by what you have done will do

  37. and are doing in our hearts and in our

  38. lives father you are a gracious and

  39. loving God that brings us together each

  40. week to worship you to hear from you um

  41. and to be transformed by your spirit so

  42. father would you do that work this

  43. morning as we come before you and listen

  44. to your word in Jesus name we pray amen

  45. well as we enter the third week of the

  46. New Year how are your New Year's goals

  47. going has anyone kept up with them

  48. anybody I think those who are keeping up

  49. they're probably running in that

  50. Marathon this morning in the cold

  51. weather um which is why you know I I

  52. made a made a uh well anyway I'm just

  53. going to pass that on uh personally uh

  54. over the past few years I focused Less

  55. on setting goals which was what I was

  56. going to say I was going to set a goal

  57. to run in this year's Marathon but

  58. obviously I blame preaching uh to be

  59. more important um I've focused instead

  60. more on establishing habits now why the

  61. difference uh while why setting goals

  62. have their place for example one of mine

  63. still is to read 12 books in a year on

  64. average about a book a month

  65. um it doesn't really tell me how to

  66. actually get there how to actually

  67. achieve that goal you know it's what's

  68. known as a lag metric where it shows the

  69. results of things that happened in the

  70. past lag metrics like the number of

  71. pounds you want to lose or a certain

  72. Financial retirement goal you want to

  73. get they're useful for looking back but

  74. not for planning ahead you know for that

  75. you want to use lead metrics they focus

  76. on actions that can improve future

  77. results now so while I may still have a

  78. goal to read 12 books in a year I focus

  79. more on the habit of setting aside maybe

  80. 30 minutes a day to read which you know

  81. that habit and keeping at it and

  82. committing to it should get to my goal

  83. of 12 books a year now a lot has been

  84. written on habits from the earlier

  85. Church Father St Augustine who wrote

  86. once wrote in his confessions habit if

  87. not resistance

  88. soon becomes necessity the things that

  89. we continually do in our lives they

  90. because of the way that we're uh built

  91. and created our minds um they become a

  92. necessary part of our lives uh stevenh

  93. cvy author of the popular Seven Habits

  94. of Highly Effective People he wrote so a

  95. thought reap an action so an action reap

  96. a habit so a habit reap a character

  97. so a character reap a Destiny the habits

  98. are what are in forms and shapes who we

  99. become James Clear author of the uh New

  100. York Times bestseller Atomic habits

  101. anyone have read this book or I've at

  102. least heard of it it was very popular a

  103. few years ago your habits shape your

  104. identity and your identity shapes your

  105. habits we see this connection between

  106. what we continually do what we invite in

  107. into our lives and how that shapes who

  108. we

  109. are habits are having a Resurgence

  110. finding the right set of habits now

  111. known as optimizing your life or life

  112. hacking is increasingly popular

  113. especially amongst the younger

  114. Generations who are eager to live their

  115. lives to the fullest utilizing all the

  116. information that the internet

  117. provides now when we consider our vision

  118. of expanding the tent where in the next

  119. 10 years we as a church will expand our

  120. tent to become a Ministry base for

  121. Christian formation and church

  122. multiplication to plant 10 reproducing

  123. churches locally and abroad for the

  124. advance of the Gospel this at the Crux

  125. of it uh this goal to plant 10

  126. reproducing churches is a lag metric

  127. just as we don't expect those to just

  128. happen

  129. overnight our Focus then is less about

  130. making sure we plant those churches

  131. and more on developing the kind of

  132. people that God has called us to

  133. uniquely form here at w they're not at

  134. the expense of each other they're

  135. complimentary and this is where the

  136. marks come into the picture and this

  137. Vision frame where Mission tells us what

  138. we are doing core values tell us why we

  139. are doing it marks they tell us when we

  140. are

  141. successful and as a church our success

  142. is not defined when we hit a certain

  143. budget or we plant a certain number of

  144. churches no our success is defined by

  145. the kind of people God has called us to

  146. Faithfully disciple and the kind of

  147. communities we want to create that

  148. ultimately welcome sojourners home so

  149. this morning we're going to take a look

  150. at the four foundational marks of

  151. following Jesus by first looking at how

  152. Jesus himself grew immature

  153. so first Jesus increased in wisdom this

  154. being the mark of a truth Bearer in the

  155. immediate context of this passage we

  156. learn that when Jesus was a boy Joseph

  157. and Mary find him at the temple

  158. listening to the teachers of the law and

  159. asking them

  160. questions when confronted with why he

  161. didn't leave with them Jesus replied in

  162. Luke 2:49 why were you looking for me

    Luke 2:49

  163. did you not know that I must be in my

  164. father's house you see from an early age

  165. Jesus understood that the source of true

  166. wisdom and knowledge was found in

  167. understanding and applying the

  168. scriptures this is what informs in

  169. foundational Mark of being a follower of

  170. Jesus which is that as truth bearers we

  171. receive obey and honor God's word daily

  172. as our way of

  173. life more than simply reading or

  174. studying script in order to gain more

  175. information or to seek to master the

  176. text we must approach the scriptures

  177. will we allow the Holy Spirit to use

  178. them to master us convicting us of our

  179. sin and Brokenness and training our

  180. affections and desires to be more and

  181. more aligned with Christ this is the

  182. difference between informational reading

  183. of the scriptures and a formational

  184. reading of the

  185. scriptures when Paul instructs Timothy

  186. in 2 Timothy

    2 Timothy 3:16

  187. 3:16 saying all scripture is breathed

  188. out by God and profitable for teaching

  189. for reproof for correction and for

  190. training in

  191. righteousness the result is that verse

  192. 17 that the man of God may be complete

  193. equipped for every good

  194. work what the fall did in breaking and

  195. marring us as image bearers of God the

  196. understanding and the application of the

  197. scriptures through the help of the holy

  198. spirit is what reforms us what reshapes

  199. us back into the people God has created

  200. us to

  201. be this is a foundational Mark of

  202. following after Jesus because before we

  203. can even begin to see communities and

  204. cities transformed by the gospel of

  205. Christ we must first experience that

  206. gospel in our lives not as a one-time

  207. event at the point of our acceptance of

  208. Jesus as our Lord and savior but every

  209. single day that we are here on this

  210. Earth waiting for his

  211. return this is why when we put together

  212. the set of reflection questions for each

  213. Mark they are designed to be asked of

  214. ourselves with the help of the Holy

  215. Spirit to reveal to convict to encourage

  216. us towards a set of habits or rhythms to

  217. help us grow so when we look at the

  218. reflection questions for truth Bearer

  219. how am I falling more deeply in love

  220. with the reading and obeying of his word

  221. how is God's word shaping the way I

  222. think feel and act this week how am I

  223. encouraging someone with God's word this

  224. week how am I committing to others in

  225. the regular study of God's word all of

  226. these questions you'll notice that first

  227. two are addressing the form AAL role of

  228. scripture in our own lives how it forms

  229. our affections our thoughts our feelings

  230. our actions while the last two helps us

  231. to remember the importance of seeking

  232. God through his word and community

  233. Through the priesthood of

  234. Believers and so as you meet with the

  235. Lord during your regular times this week

  236. I invite you to take some time to sit

  237. with these questions don't rush through

  238. them answering with a simple gut

  239. reaction oh yeah I'm doing pretty good

  240. but invite the Lord to bring to our

  241. minds to bring to Minds reasons why we

  242. might be resistant or hesitant about

  243. reading the Bible that day to bring to

  244. mind something about ourselves or about

  245. God that he wants us to pay attention to

  246. as we read his word or to bring to mind

  247. someone I might need to encourage with

  248. God's word that day

  249. because when we do we'll begin to see

  250. God Orient our lives in such a way where

  251. when Temptation comes we can say along

  252. with Jesus man shall not live by bread

  253. alone but by every word that comes from

  254. the mouth of

  255. God and so as followers of Jesus commit

  256. to becoming truth bearers that not only

  257. welcome The Living Word to inform form

  258. and transform our lives for his glory

  259. but to do that uh

  260. with the hope of seeing communities

  261. transformed as

  262. well Jesus increased in wisdom and Jesus

  263. increased in stature this being the mark

  264. of a

  265. teammate Luke chap

  266. 2:52 is the last verse that we get of

  267. Jesus's life before he begins his

  268. ministry at age 30 but we do what we do

  269. know is that Jesus spent much of his

  270. adult life learning and practicing his

  271. Earthly fathers trade as a carpenter we

  272. see this when those in his hometown

  273. question Jesus's source of training when

  274. he begins teaching in the temple saying

  275. is this not the carpenter the son of

  276. Mary or is this not The Carpenter's

  277. son while the crowds intended to cast

  278. doubt on Jesus and his authority because

  279. he was just a

  280. carpenter I see it as Jesus leaving an

  281. example for us where Others May question

  282. us as just a youth just a stay-at-home

  283. spouse or parent or just a Fillin the

  284. blank Jesus intentionally took time

  285. while he was working in his trade to

  286. continue to grow to understand the

  287. scriptures not only in his physical

  288. stature but in his maturity and

  289. understanding of how his work and his

  290. faith was

  291. interconnected and this is what led what

  292. leads to the next foundational Mark of

  293. following Jesus which is that as

  294. teammates we serve with humility and

  295. unity to team up for Kingdom

  296. impact you know I wonder what it was

  297. like for Jesus to work with his dad

  298. Joseph in their family carpentry

  299. business see not only do you have the

  300. already complex dynamics of a father and

  301. a son working together but now you have

  302. the Creator God himself submitting to

  303. and learning from his Earth Father Dad

  304. why do we do it this way I I think it

  305. would be better if no son we do it this

  306. way because we've always done it this

  307. way we don't change tradition trust me

  308. I've been doing it way longer than you

  309. have you know conversations like these

  310. you know we might chuckle and imagine

  311. but these are very real things that we

  312. encounter in our lives today especially

  313. I know some of you work in family

  314. businesses I think all of us whether

  315. you've been in a business or not being

  316. in a Chinese Heritage Church

  317. encountering with different generation

  318. of leaders you might have already

  319. encountered some of those things we

  320. don't do it that way

  321. tradition whether we are the one

  322. learning or the one

  323. teaching humility and unity is needed

  324. for both parties to be able to team up

  325. together because the work we are

  326. engaging in is spiritual work when Paul

  327. wrote to the Corinthians about the

  328. giving of different spirit spiritual

  329. gifts he emphasized the variety of the

  330. gifts but the Same Spirit the variety of

  331. service but the same Lord the variety of

  332. activities but the same God the one God

  333. who gives and empowers the body of

  334. Christ to serve him for the common

  335. good and to the Ephesians and Paul

  336. reminded the Ephesian church that he

  337. gave the apostles the prophets the

  338. evangelists the Shepherds and the

  339. teachers to equip the Saints for the

  340. work of ministry so that when each part

  341. is working properly joined and held

  342. together the body grows so that it

  343. builds itself up in

  344. love as teammates in the kingdom of God

  345. we are given our own set of unique gifts

  346. to cultivate and to grow in order to

  347. contribute to the kingdom of God the

  348. basis of our vision frame our mission

  349. core values marks and journey these are

  350. based on the understanding that each

  351. local church is unique unique because of

  352. who is part of that body our church is

  353. uniquely different than all the other

  354. churches in the world because God has

  355. uniquely called each one of you to be

  356. part of this church to be part of it

  357. your passions your gifts your calling

  358. your experience to be part of this local

  359. church and it is out of this unique Body

  360. of Christ that we can anticipate the

  361. kinds of communities small groups

  362. neighborhoods and church plants that

  363. will be formed because of

  364. you one practical example that we've

  365. seen is Springbrook Village a newly

  366. developed neighborhood just a couple of

  367. miles down the road you know what

  368. started as a couple of families um from

  369. W moving into there over the past few

  370. years we've had more and more people

  371. moving in establishing a community of w

  372. folks where we begin to see uh the

  373. transformation of that Community even

  374. hosting uh the World Vision 6K last year

  375. and for com uh

  376. relationships uh deepening friendships

  377. uh people being invited into the

  378. church this is a result of people in our

  379. church teaming up for Kingdom impact so

  380. when we consider the reflection

  381. questions for the mark of teammate how

  382. am I growing in serving others out of

  383. joy in response to God's grace how am I

  384. teaming up with my small group in church

  385. for training and

  386. accountability or how am I persevering

  387. through inconvenience to serve and equip

  388. others how am I deepening my friendships

  389. of being vulnerable to know and to be

  390. known by others notice the emphasis to

  391. become become aware of our own internal

  392. motivations to serve serving out of joy

  393. in response to God's grace or

  394. persevering through

  395. inconvenience notice as well the

  396. intentional involvement of others to

  397. speak into our lives whether it's for

  398. training and

  399. accountability or being truly known by

  400. others these are there because as a

  401. Chinese Heritage Church in America there

  402. are cultural influences that continue to

  403. tempt and seek to shape our Christian

  404. faith for example values of efficiency

  405. or achievement of Saving Face or

  406. Independence can form us into Lone

  407. Rangers in Ministry where we prioritize

  408. quick results individual

  409. wins um over deepening relationships

  410. empowering leaders and shared

  411. goals so as you take time to reflect on

  412. those questions S I invite you to ask

  413. someone in your small group or a friend

  414. to give you their take of you on those

  415. answers pray for an open heart to

  416. receive the spirit to reveal areas where

  417. he is asking you to grow as a

  418. teammate Jesus increased in wisdom as a

  419. truth Bearer in stature as a teammate

  420. and Jesus increased in favor with God

  421. the mark of a

  422. beloved it's hard to comprehend that

  423. Jesus can increase in anything

  424. especially when it comes to favor with

  425. God after all being part of the uh

  426. Trinity from eternity

  427. past also him being perfect but as a

  428. young man he was growing experientially

  429. in what it meant to be a son submitting

  430. to and honoring his Earthly parents as a

  431. way to submit to and honor his heavenly

  432. father he did this in order to as the

  433. writer of Hebrews said in Hebrews 5

  434. although he was a son he learned

  435. obedience through what he suffered and

  436. being made perfect he became the source

  437. of Eternal salvation to all who obey him

  438. we see this affirmed at Jesus's baptism

  439. before Jesus did any public teaching or

  440. Miracles he received the words from his

  441. Heavenly Father this is my beloved Son

  442. with whom I am well

  443. pleased before doing

  444. anything the father first reminded Jesus

  445. of his being that he was first his

  446. beloved

  447. Son this ordering of our being before

  448. our doing is what characterizes much of

  449. the Epistles that Paul writes to the

  450. churches where the first half of the

  451. letter often talks about what Christ has

  452. already done and our identity in him

  453. before moving on to how we should live

  454. in light of that identity now now Pete

  455. skazo famously puts it doing for Jesus

  456. should flow from our being with

  457. Jesus doing for Jesus should flow from

  458. our being with Jesus all too often we

  459. get that

  460. reversed we base our being off of our

  461. doing it can be so pervasive that we

  462. aren't even aware of it we size each

  463. other up by asking people we meet for

  464. the first time well what do you do we

  465. often take pride in the fact that people

  466. say oh you're so busy or you did a great

  467. job you know especially growing up in an

  468. Asian culture it doesn't help that our

  469. achievements or lack thereof seem to

  470. impact the love we receive from our

  471. parents a formational mark of following

  472. Jesus then is that as his beloved we

  473. abide in our identity as children of God

  474. fully forgiven and loved by Christ who

  475. we are is not dependent on what we do or

  476. have done or will do but what Christ has

  477. done on our behalf full stop the Apostle

  478. John in John 15 records Jesus saying I

  479. am the True Vine my father is the vine

  480. dresser every branch in me that does not

  481. bear fruit he takes away and every

  482. branch that does bear fruit he prunes

  483. that it may bear more fruit already you

  484. are clean because of the word that I

  485. have spoken to you abide in me and I in

  486. you as a branch cannot bear fruit by

  487. itself unless it abides in the vine

  488. neither can you unless you abide in me I

  489. am the vine you are the branches whoever

  490. abides in me and I in him he it is that

  491. bears much fruit for apart from me you

  492. can do nothing

  493. the question is have we fully embraced

  494. our identity to abide in him or are we

  495. somehow still trying to prove

  496. ourselves this is a foundational mark

  497. because it addresses so much of what the

  498. world tries to tell us that our worth is

  499. defined by our work our achievements our

  500. abilities our

  501. relationships but when we begin to

  502. internalize in adopt the identity as

  503. God's beloved for ourselves that will

  504. begin to shape not only how we view our

  505. work our gifts our relationships but

  506. those around us those who are far from

  507. him accepting and adopting this identity

  508. is hard

  509. work it is why through these Mark's

  510. reflection questions there are some

  511. habits and rhythms to consider

  512. integrating into our lives for example

  513. how am I delighting in God through

  514. personal personal and corporate worship

  515. this week how am I confessing my

  516. challenges with sin this week and

  517. experiencing his

  518. forgiveness how am I in experiencing

  519. increasing Security in Christ by praying

  520. and listening to God how am I creating

  521. more margin and rhythm in my life for

  522. rest and

  523. renewal not only do we strive to create

  524. space and margin Our Lives to listen to

  525. the voice of our creator through prayer

  526. and reading of his word but we fill that

  527. space with practices intended to deepen

  528. our relationship with him practices like

  529. confession and worship and

  530. rest all too often our lives are filled

  531. again optimized by some standard to be

  532. oriented To What We believe We ought to

  533. be doing but taking time to continually

  534. surrender those plans to the Lord is a

  535. posture

  536. we are to work towards as his

  537. beloved again if you want a copy of

  538. these bookmark uh these questions we

  539. have bookmarks in the lobby every

  540. quarter we're going to change them out

  541. for each of these marks for you to just

  542. keep uh with you as you read and asking

  543. with the Lord's uh

  544. help Jesus increased in wisdom in

  545. stature in favor with God and finally

  546. Jesus increased in favor with man the

  547. mark of a bridge

  548. builder remember how when his parents

  549. were trying to find Jesus and he said to

  550. them why were you looking for me did you

  551. not know that I must be in my father's

  552. house don't miss what follows in verse

  553. 50-51 and they did not understand the

  554. saying that he spoke to them and he went

  555. down with them and came to Nazareth and

  556. was submissive to them and his mother

  557. treasured up all these things in her

  558. heart

  559. heart having humbled himself to be born

  560. already as a baby having to go through

  561. all the stages of development he never

  562. lost sight of his purpose here on Earth

  563. which was not which was to not only be

  564. the perfect sacrifice for mankind so

  565. that we may be reconciled to the father

  566. but so that we may have a high priest

  567. who is able to sympathize with our

  568. weaknesses and to help us when we are

  569. tempted but before that time came what

  570. was requ ired of him as a boy was to as

  571. the Eternal Son of God be submissive to

  572. his Earthly

  573. parents it is this kind of humility this

  574. kind of love this complete dependence on

  575. God's timing and plan to work out is

  576. what he has called us to as his

  577. followers which brings us to our last

  578. foundational Mark which is that as

  579. Bridge Builders we build Bridges to

  580. share the love of Christ wherever we are

  581. Jesus Jesus Built Bridges with others

  582. wherever he was at whether it was a

  583. young boy with his parents or meeting a

  584. tax collector in the tree or talking

  585. with a Samaritan woman at the well Jesus

  586. came to break down the very barriers

  587. that man put up to separate and to

  588. discriminate and as his followers we are

  589. to do the

  590. same see there are times when going on a

  591. mission trip will help us to see how we

  592. might be able to share the gospel out

  593. home but to think that we can only do

  594. missions out there is to miss the

  595. opportunities and the people God has

  596. sovereignly placed you with here the

  597. class that you're in the workplace that

  598. you're working at the neighbors that are

  599. living around you these are all by The

  600. Sovereign hand of God for you to build

  601. Bridges with so that at the right time

  602. that chyos time that I talked about a

  603. few weeks ago we might see the power of

  604. the Gospel transform lives for

  605. eternity Building Bridges doesn't mean

  606. that every conversation that we have is

  607. about the gospel in fact there might be

  608. times when doing so may burn a bridge

  609. but Building Bridges means taking the

  610. time to show interest in the other

  611. person this is what Paul talks about in

  612. Philippians 2 right before he talks

  613. about Christ's humility Let each of you

  614. look not only to his own interest

  615. interests but also to the interests of

  616. others have this mind among yourselves

  617. which is yours in Christ Jesus who

  618. though he was in the form of God did not

  619. count equality with God a thing to be

  620. grasped but emptied himself by taking

  621. the form of a servant being born in the

  622. likeness of men building that bridge

  623. from Heaven to Earth to show interest in

  624. the other person means to cross that Gap

  625. that once existed between you and the

  626. other person and to build a bridge based

  627. on

  628. love so the set of questions for this

  629. Mark are as follows how am I

  630. representing Christ in my

  631. vocation how am I connecting with other

  632. generations and cultures in Christ how

  633. am I pursuing

  634. reconciliation within my family church

  635. and other

  636. relationships how am I stretching myself

  637. to better Engage The unchurched with the

  638. gospel goel notice the verbs here

  639. representing Christ in our work

  640. connecting with others pursuing

  641. reconciliation stretching

  642. myself Building Bridges is not easy work

  643. it's far easier to stay within our

  644. comfort zones our tribes our friend

  645. groups interest groups Church groups

  646. than it is to take that proactive St

  647. step of welcoming another into the fold

  648. and as you sit with these questions I

  649. ask I invite you to pray for the Lord to

  650. bring to mind who he might be inviting

  651. you to build Bridges with and this is

  652. why our life group Vision to be a place

  653. where the weight is not on every single

  654. person to do that but on the group as a

  655. whole to be a place of

  656. welcome our 10-year vision of expanding

  657. the tent is dependent on us as followers

  658. of Jesus to be intentional and growing

  659. with the holy spirit's help in these

  660. foundational marks of Truth Bearer

  661. teammate beloved and bridge

  662. builder because churches are planted

  663. when groups are welcoming sojourners

  664. home and groups become welcoming places

  665. when we first find our life defined by

  666. Jesus instead of this

  667. world I'm excited to invite you to take

  668. the marks self assessment the link is uh

  669. whcc home.or

  670. gmsa short for Marks self assessment you

  671. can take a picture for later bookmark it

  672. in your favorites this is a tool that

  673. has been in the works for the last year

  674. it's designed to be taken on an annual

  675. basis where you set aside 10 to 15

  676. minutes there's about 40 questions and

  677. you answer them prayerfully with the

  678. Holy Spirit and when you're finished the

  679. prayer is that one of the four marks

  680. might show up as an area to explore more

  681. deeply with the Lord with your small

  682. group or life group or with a spiritual

  683. director this is why at the end it's

  684. optional for you uh to enter in your

  685. name it's first and foremost a tool to

  686. help you discern where God might be

  687. inviting you to grow in this year but if

  688. you want follow up and more resources

  689. the name is the contact information is

  690. there for us to follow up with you now

  691. now I know the Temptation with these

  692. things is to approach it as if it's a

  693. grade as if it defines and determines

  694. our spiritual maturity or to view it as

  695. a source of shame because maybe we're in

  696. a place where we don't want to be resist

  697. that Temptation instead see this as an

  698. opportunity to check in with God I found

  699. that the spirit tends to call us to grow

  700. in one area at a time

  701. not this

  702. multitasking kind of mindset that we

  703. tend to approach it so the priority for

  704. us is to ask where is God at work in our

  705. lives in my life right now for some God

  706. might be inviting us to explore more

  707. deeply a particular Mark that we talked

  708. about

  709. today while for others God might be

  710. revealing to us that we are currently

  711. stuck at a wall in our spiritual world

  712. walk as one writer put it at the wall

  713. exhaustion pain grief unanswered

  714. questions doubt

  715. discouragement aloneness or spiritual

  716. dryness seems to block our way to

  717. God now for many of us we may never had

  718. language about the wall in our spiritual

  719. Journeys thinking it must be because I'm

  720. a bad Christian or maybe I've had little

  721. faith but in reality part of the

  722. spiritual journey is learning to break

  723. through the wall because it is at the

  724. wall where one writer put it our will

  725. meets God's will face to

  726. face all of us when we first believ the

  727. gospel had to go through the wall of

  728. unbelief but as we mature and grow in

  729. our

  730. faith there will be seasons of loss of

  731. grief of Doubt of disappointment where

  732. we question a new our faith and as you

  733. honestly and prayerfully work through

  734. the self assessment and you come to see

  735. that you might be at a wall I encourage

  736. you to reach out to someone a friend a

  737. pastor a small group leader to be able

  738. to process where you are because there

  739. is no avoiding the wall just like that

  740. children's book there's no way over it

  741. no way under it no way around it but

  742. through it those of you who are parents

  743. of young kids you probably remember this

  744. I know there are people here who have

  745. gone through walls and are willing to

  746. help you walk through it just remember

  747. that even though we walk through valleys

  748. consumed by Shadow or

  749. death the Lord is with you he has not

  750. left you nor forsaken you so friends as

  751. you take the self assessment I'd love

  752. your feedback again we hope for this to

  753. be an annual tool that uh you take to

  754. help you discern what God may have you

  755. focus on so that collectively we could

  756. all be growing as truth bearers

  757. teammates beloved and Bridge Builders

  758. let us

  759. pray gracious heavenly

  760. father just as

  761. Jesus grew

  762. uh and wisdom and stature and favor with

  763. you and favor with

  764. man father we are to grow just like him

  765. and so father we confess of the ways

  766. that we've tried to grow

  767. ourselves by pursuing the different

  768. things whether it's what the world tells

  769. us or what we ought to think is what we

  770. need but father we need you we need your

  771. spirit's help to tell us to show us us

  772. to reveal to us God the ways in which we

  773. are to grow in our lives in this moment

  774. in this season help us to be faithful in

  775. meeting with you seeking you so that you

  776. may grow us collectively as a church we

  777. love you in Jesus name we pray amen
