  1. And then I want to look back at verse nine.

  2. The Bible says, but beloved,

  3. we are persuaded better things of you

  4. and things that accompany salvation,

  5. though we thus speak.

  6. So here in verse number nine,

  7. the author of Hebrews is encouraging the Christians.

  8. Notice he says in verse nine, beloved.

  9. So he's talking about people that are saved.

  10. He's saying, hey, I'm persuaded better things of you

  11. and things that accompany salvation.

  12. So there's things in the Bible

  13. that aren't addressing salvation,

  14. but they're rather addressing things

  15. that accompany salvation.

  16. And the word accompany simply means to be

  17. in relation to associated with.

  18. It obviously it's not just necessarily something

  19. that is coupled together and unrelated.

  20. It's very related.

  21. It's very associated.

  22. It has a close connection, but it's distinct.

  23. It's not the same thing.

  24. So we're not talking about salvation.

  25. We're talking about things that accompany salvation.

  26. So we think about french fries and ketchup, right?

  27. What a company's french fries, ketchup does.

  28. Or you could say salt, or you could say something else.

  29. Maybe you say, what a company's a burger,

  30. french fries, or a shake,

  31. or the things that are closely associated one

  32. with another, they go together.

  33. They are related in some fashion,

  34. but they're not each other, okay?

  35. And so when we're talking about this passage,

  36. the author is really stressing the idea

  37. of things that accompany salvation.

  38. You know, you're in a church this morning

  39. and I hope that you're already saved.

  40. I hope that the vast majority of our congregation

  41. is already believed on Jesus Christ and we're already saved.

  42. So then it's like, why are we here?

  43. We're here because we want to talk about

  44. the things that accompany salvation as well.

  45. And so church isn't only to get people saved.

  46. It's also to help people grow and gain knowledge

  47. and add things that accompany salvation.

  48. And so we're all saved, you know,

  49. that we've believed in Jesus, we're all going to heaven.

  50. We can't really change that,

  51. but at the same time, we should still desire

  52. to have things that accompany salvation.

  53. So that's kind of being stressed here

  54. and emphasized in the book of Hebrews specifically.

  55. Of course, Hebrews is a later book in the New Testament.

  56. And I've explained this, you know,

  57. many times in the past, but you know,

  58. just to re-emphasize, I believe if you study

  59. the New Testament layout that as you get

  60. into later books, it is evolving into more mature doctrine.

  61. You're getting more deep doctrine.

  62. You're talking about the maturity

  63. and the later aspects of Christianity

  64. that are being emphasized.

  65. And of course the book of Hebrews specifically

  66. is talking about enduring to the end

  67. and essentially laboring for Christ

  68. all the way to the end and having a great faith.

  69. We have chapter number 11, which really emphasizes

  70. the greatest Christians of all time

  71. and how they really endured to the end

  72. and the exercise great faith.

  73. So that's the point of the book of Hebrews, okay?

  74. Now I wanna build a context to get back to the statement

  75. and then we're gonna finish the sermon talking

  76. a lot about the things that accompany salvation.

  77. But let's understand what this passage is saying.

  78. Look at chapter five, verse nine for a moment.

  79. It says,

  80. I love to take difficult passages of the Bible,

  81. rip them out of context

  82. and then suggest works-based salvation.

  83. Because notice here in verse nine,

  84. it says that Jesus Christ

  85. is the author of eternal salvation

  86. unto all of them that obey him.

  87. Question is, what does that mean to obey him here?

  88. Well, it'd be similar to two other passages.

  89. Keep your finger here.

  90. Go to Romans chapter number 10 for a moment.

  91. Go to Romans chapter number 10.

  92. Let's compare the Bible with itself for a moment.

  93. Let's not just throw out John 3, 16

  94. and every clear verse on salvation being by faith

  95. just because the word obey is mentioned here

  96. in this sense, okay?

  97. And again, Hebrews is not an exhortation

  98. on how to get saved.

  99. That is not what Hebrews is talking about.

  100. That's not the context.

  101. He's talking to a group of people that are already saved.

  102. So we don't wanna go to epistles

  103. or context of scripture

  104. that are not explaining how to get saved

  105. to then have our clear doctrine on salvation.

  106. But you know, Romans 10 is a very clear passage

  107. on salvation and how to get saved

  108. than it's explaining what salvation looks like.

  109. But you know what?

  110. It uses the word obey.

  111. Look at it says in Romans chapter 10 verse 16.

    Romans 10:16

  112. But they have not obeyed, notice this,

  113. the gospel for Isaiah's saith Lord

  114. who hath believed our report.

  115. So here it's talking about people not obeying

  116. but what was the not obeying?

  117. They didn't obey the gospel.

  118. And then it says, what does that look like?

  119. They didn't believe.

  120. It doesn't say that they didn't follow the commandments

  121. or they were sinners because that's everybody.

  122. We've already established that fact.

  123. That's just the reality of Romans chapter number three

  124. for all of sin and comes short of the glory of God.

  125. So what is it that the Jews did not do

  126. is they did not obey the gospel

  127. by believing in Jesus Christ.

  128. And of course it emphasizes in verse 17.

  129. So then faith comes by hearing

  130. and hearing by the word of God.

  131. So how do you obey to get eternal life?

  132. You hear the word of God and you believe it.

  133. That's the obedience.

  134. The obedience to the word of God being preached to you.

  135. You put your faith in Jesus Christ.

  136. That's the only obedience necessary for salvation.

  137. It's not a following the commandments to get saved.

  138. That's a false doctrine.

  139. I wanna go to another place though.

  140. Go to 2nd Thessalonians chapter two.

  141. 2nd Thessalonians chapter number two

  142. because we're unpacking a very difficult portion

  143. of scripture this morning.

  144. I would argue that Hebrews six

  145. is one of the most challenging passages in the Bible.

  146. It's highly disputed.

  147. A lot of people have different ideas

  148. but I wanna do my best to slow down,

  149. take a little bit of time

  150. and for it to just be very easy to understand.

  151. Very easy to walk away and know what we're talking about.

  152. 2nd Thessalonians chapter two, look at verse eight.

  153. And then show that wicked be revealed

  154. whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth

  155. and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming

  156. even him who's coming is after the working of Satan

  157. with all power and signs and lying wonders.

  158. He's talking about the antichrist coming in the future,

  159. being made manifest, the wicked being revealed.

  160. He does this by declaring himself God,

  161. standing in the holy place

  162. and demanding everybody worship him as God, okay?

  163. Now it says that he's gonna be using the power of Satan

  164. and having lying signs and wonders to do these things.

  165. It says in verse 10,

  166. and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness

  167. in them that perish because they received not

  168. the love of the truth that they might be saved.

  169. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion

  170. that they should believe a lie,

  171. that they all might be damned to believe not the truth

  172. but add pleasure in unrighteousness.

  173. So we have here in verse number 10,

  174. it says that they received not the love of the truth, okay?

  175. So again, in verse eight,

  176. what was the context here?

  177. He's saying that they obey, I'm sorry,

  178. I wanna give you the idea of that they're not believing.

  179. That's the reason why they're not saved.

  180. And then go to chapter one for a second

  181. and look at verse eight.

  182. And flaming fire taking vengeance on them

  183. that know not God and notice this

  184. and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

  185. who should be punished with everlasting instruction

  186. from the presence of the Lord and from the glorious power.

  187. So in chapter two,

  188. we get the really clear explanation here.

  189. They love not the truth that they can be saved.

  190. They believe the lie, verse 12,

  191. that they all might be damned to believe not the truth

  192. but add pleasure in unrighteousness.

  193. Then in chapter one,

  194. where we understand the statement said

  195. it obeyed not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  196. How do they not obey it?

  197. Because they didn't believe, okay?

  198. They're punished because they didn't believe.

  199. So if they didn't obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

  200. and then we get the clarification in chapter two,

  201. what does that mean?

  202. It's not saying that they were just too sinful

  203. or they didn't give up their sins.

  204. It's that they did not believe.

  205. They did not love the truth that they could be saved.

  206. And so they believe the lie

  207. and they believe not the truth.

  208. And so therefore they are going to hell.

  209. So go back to Hebrews chapter number five.

  210. I just wanted to clarify again.

  211. Obedience in Hebrews chapter five

  212. is not teaching works-based salvation.

  213. Why? Because the Bible doesn't teach works-based salvation.

  214. You know, salvation has always been by faith.

  215. It was never works in the Old Testament.

  216. It was never works when Jesus preached it.

  217. It was at works in the future.

  218. And look, I can't even believe it.

  219. There are people out there, dispensationalists out there

  220. that teach that salvation was by works

  221. in the Old Testament.

  222. They teach that not only was salvation by works

  223. in the Old Testament, Jesus Christ preached salvation by works.

  224. And that Paul was the first person

  225. to ever preach salvation by grace only.

  226. And that it's his gospel and it was a secret.

  227. And then in the future,

  228. when we get to the everlasting gospel,

  229. it's back to works again.

  230. So it's just like, basically it's just like,

  231. works for 4,000 years, works.

  232. Jesus is preaching works.

  233. Then Paul is saying like, oh, it's different for us.

  234. We're just special.

  235. We get in by grace.

  236. But then as soon as the tribulation hits,

  237. back to works again.

  238. I'm glad that we're in this dispensation of grace.

  239. You know what I mean?

  240. And of course, these people that believe this stuff

  241. believe so many heresies, so many false doctrines.

  242. They're so over the top.

  243. And again, what you notice is they have a common pattern

  244. because it's typically coming from a Ruckmanite

  245. viewpoint that has this kind of over the top.

  246. And it's like, oh, what else did they take over the top?

  247. How about the King James Bible issue, right?

  248. They take that over the top.

  249. It's just everything's over the top.

  250. Everything's just like this over literal.

  251. So they hear the word obey

  252. and they're just like, see, work salvation.

  253. No, if we compare with other passages,

  254. we realize the obedience here

  255. is in reference to not believing the gospel.

  256. And look, Jesus and Paul did not preach different gospels.

  257. They preached the exact same gospel.

  258. And you're like, how do you even reconcile

  259. these Ruckmanites when they say,

  260. Paul's saying like, let any man be a curse

  261. that would preach another gospel.

  262. And they're like, oh, that's for this dispensation.

  263. It's like, well, it doesn't say that.

  264. So by their logic, they're making Jesus a curse.

  265. And of course, no man by the spirit of God

  266. called Jesus Christ a curse.

  267. So it sounds like these guys don't have

  268. the spirit of God at all.

  269. I'll just be honest with you,

  270. I just can't believe someone saved

  271. that thinks salvation was by works at any point in time.

  272. Maybe you can believe whatever you want,

  273. but I just don't believe that.

  274. I think you just don't understand the gospel at that point.

  275. And of course, you don't understand what Jesus did for us.

  276. Like, that's a different sermon, okay, sorry.

  277. Let's keep going with our passage for a moment, all right?

  278. So Jesus Christ is the priest after the Lord of Mccasitic,

  279. okay, and he's the author of eternal salvation.

  280. And those who obey him, meaning they believe in him,

  281. they get eternal life, verse 11,

  282. of whom we have many things to say.

  283. I want to talk a lot about Jesus.

  284. And hard to be uttered, sing your dole of hearing.

  285. For in the time he ought to be teachers,

  286. you have neither one teach you again,

  287. which be the first principles of the oracles of God,

  288. and it becomes such as have need of milk

  289. and not strong meat.

  290. For everyone that uses milk is unskillful

  291. in the word of righteousness, for he's a babe,

  292. but strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age,

  293. even those who by reason of use

  294. have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

  295. So the Bible is saying here

  296. that the apostle Paul wants to explain

  297. some more complicated things to this group of people,

  298. but they're not able to really understand it quite yet

  299. because they're still too basic.

  300. They don't have a good enough understanding yet.

  301. They're still needing milk.

  302. So it's like a baby, you want to give them steak,

  303. you want to give them meat, but they can't chew it.

  304. They're not capable of eating this yet.

  305. And so as a result, you kind of have to give them

  306. the milk so they can keep maturing, keep growing up,

  307. and then you can eventually teach them this.

  308. It's like, hey, people show up

  309. and you want to teach them calculus,

  310. but they don't understand addition.

  311. They don't understand multiplication.

  312. Well, we have to learn addition and multiplication

  313. before I can teach you how to do simple algebra

  314. or get anything to calculus for you to understand it.

  315. Otherwise, it's a waste of time.

  316. And so that's the basic concept.

  317. The basic concept is, hey, you guys,

  318. you've been saved long enough

  319. that you should basically know these things.

  320. And look, this is a phenomenon we see in America today

  321. where there are a lot of people that have been saved

  322. for five years, 10 years, 15 years,

  323. but they're going to a church

  324. that's not teaching them anything in the Bible.

  325. And so they're still immature

  326. and they still have very little understanding.

  327. It's sad, you go to a lot of different churches a day

  328. and you run into different people

  329. and you talk with these individuals

  330. and they really don't know anything.

  331. They don't know, like it's very difficult

  332. to explain some doctrines to them

  333. because they're still on pre-trib or something.

  334. It's like, hey, I want to talk to you about

  335. this interesting thing I found in the Old Testament

  336. that's talking about Christ returning

  337. in the middle of the seven years

  338. and they're just like pre-trib, bro.

  339. You're like, well, I can't really get you there

  340. because you still don't even understand

  341. these basic concepts.

  342. Maybe you don't even know the story.

  343. It surprises me how many times I knock on someone's door

  344. and I'm trying to give them the gospel.

  345. And I get to the point where I'm explaining

  346. that Jesus went to hell.

  347. And I say, hey, you know how Jonah was in the whales belly

  348. for three days and three nights?

  349. They're like, no, I've never heard that story before.

  350. And it's like, I kind of want to use that to illustrate

  351. that was a picture about Jesus would go to hell

  352. and he quotes that in the book of Matthew.

  353. But I'm just surprised how many people

  354. don't even know the story of Jonah.

  355. And look, I just think there's a lot of people

  356. in this world that are even saved,

  357. not even just the unsafe that are saved

  358. and they just lack a lot of basic understanding.

  359. They lack a lot of basic biblical doctrine.

  360. And so you can't really teach more advanced subjects.

  361. You can't really teach difficult passages of the Bible

  362. because they're still just so novice, so immature.

  363. And that's kind of the point that he's making.

  364. Okay, I think that is clear.

  365. I think everybody even agrees with what I just said.

  366. That's what the Bible is clearly saying.

  367. Hey, you're too basic.

  368. So then what would be the solution to becoming less basic?

  369. Moving on from basic teaching

  370. and teaching you more information, right?

  371. And that's what he says in verse one of chapter six.

  372. Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,

  373. let us go on under perfection.

  374. So he's saying, I'm not going to teach you basics anymore.

  375. I want to teach you some more advanced doctrine

  376. so you're no longer immature.

  377. And notice again, the comparison in verse 14,

  378. full age with what it says here, perfection.

  379. Perfection is completion or what we describe as maturity.

  380. So being fully perfect would be fully mature

  381. or being of full age.

  382. So we leave the basic doctrine,

  383. teach you more advanced doctrine

  384. so that you're no longer a babe, you're now full age.

  385. You're now perfect, you're now complete.

  386. He says, not laying again the foundation

  387. of repentance from dead works in a faith toward God.

  388. Now what is the foundation of our faith?

  389. It's Christ, it's believing in Jesus Christ.

  390. That's what gets us saved.

  391. So the foundation of repentance from dead works.

  392. What are dead works?

  393. That's believing that your works are gonna save you,

  394. but they were dead.

  395. Your dead interest passes and sins

  396. and our works don't save us at all.

  397. So to be saved, you have to repent from dead works

  398. meaning you don't believe that works will save you

  399. and you put your faith in what?

  400. In Jesus Christ, which is what it says explicitly here,

  401. it says, and faith toward God.

  402. So that is the first step to getting saved.

  403. That is the first principle.

  404. That is the foundation of our faith is repentance

  405. and putting our faith in Jesus Christ.

  406. We turned from dead works to Jesus Christ.

  407. Word repent means to turn.

  408. So we turn from something that can't save

  409. to something that can't save.

  410. Dead works can't save, faith in God can save.

  411. So we've done that.

  412. Then what are other basic doctrines

  413. right after salvation?

  414. What's right after the foundation

  415. and our building construction here?

  416. The doctrine of baptisms and the laying out of hands

  417. and the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.

  418. So he's just basically saying,

  419. hey, these things are all the basics.

  420. Going to hell, baptism, getting saved.

  421. And essentially, he brings up laying out of hands

  422. which I would just assume this is kind of talking about

  423. that initial understanding of church planting.

  424. And we see this in the book of Acts

  425. where a lot of those initial people, this is happening.

  426. You could also relate to laying out of hands

  427. is how they receive the Holy Ghost.

  428. Because in the first early part of the church,

  429. what's happening?

  430. They're getting saved, they're getting baptized,

  431. they're laying hands on them,

  432. they're being filled with the Holy Ghost.

  433. And additionally, they're laying hands on the early leaders

  434. to send them out to start churches.

  435. This is all your most basic doctrine,

  436. the first principles, the foundation of the Christian faith

  437. and we're setting up a church.

  438. A church is made of what?

  439. People that got saved, baptized

  440. and now we're forming together in this local congregation.

  441. But then the question is what's the point

  442. of this congregation?

  443. And if I have all these people that are saved,

  444. should I just keep teaching them how to be saved?

  445. And look, there are Baptist churches in this world

  446. that basically preach a salvation message

  447. almost every Sunday morning.

  448. I mean, they're basically just laying down

  449. the foundation every single week, every single service.

  450. They're just focused on the foundation and the principles

  451. and that's really not gonna cause any growth

  452. for the congregation, okay?

  453. And it's gonna cause people to become dole of hearing

  454. because it's like who wants to just sit here

  455. and learn how to get saved week after week

  456. after week after week after week.

  457. They basically just are immature,

  458. they can't really understand anything

  459. and they could have been that way for years.

  460. And he's saying by this amount of time

  461. you should have grown up though.

  462. Like you've had enough time to actually be pretty mature

  463. and you're not because we haven't left

  464. the first principles, okay?

  465. So we need to do that.

  466. And he says in verse three,

  467. and this will we do if God permits.

  468. So what is this that we're gonna do?

  469. We're gonna go on to perfection.

  470. We're going to essentially become perfect.

  471. So God willing, basically, what he's saying.

  472. No one knows how long they're gonna live.

  473. No one knows that they're for sure

  474. gonna stay in the faith.

  475. We shouldn't be high-minded

  476. and think like, well, I'm definitely gonna be said faster.

  477. I know that God's gonna preserve me to have a long life.

  478. Like, you don't know how many days you're gonna have

  479. and you don't know how faithful you're gonna be.

  480. And so he's just basically saying,

  481. hey, we're gonna go on to perfection if God permits.

  482. If God allows us to do this, we wanna do this.

  483. And if God permits us.

  484. Now in verse four,

  485. this is kind of where there's different opinions, okay?

  486. And I'm just basically gonna go through it

  487. and present what I believe the Bible's clearly saying here.

  488. But I think understanding the context

  489. is the thing that matters the most, okay?

  490. So we've gotten to this point

  491. where we understand this doctrine of what?

  492. We need to not be a babe.

  493. We need to learn advanced doctrine.

  494. We're hoping God allows us to do this.

  495. Then we get the word for.

  496. The word for is obviously in conjunction

  497. with the previous thoughts.

  498. You could think of for as being because.

  499. Why would we leave the foundation?

  500. Because it is impossible for those who are once enlightened

  501. and have tasted the heavenly gift

  502. and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost

  503. and have tasted the good word of God

  504. and the powers of the world to come

  505. if they shall fall away to renew them again under repentance

  506. seeing they crucified themselves as the Son of God afresh

  507. and put into an open chain.

  508. So verses four through six is one sentence

  509. and he has kind of a lengthy description

  510. of what this group of people are like.

  511. I think that almost everybody

  512. when they read this list initially thinks

  513. that sounds like a saved person, okay?

  514. Just because of the language.

  515. I mean, we're thinking about people that were enlightened.

  516. That's usually the gospel light coming on in their brain, right?

  517. They've tasted the heavenly gift.

  518. That means they experienced it in some way.

  519. Taste usually means a short duration.

  520. So it doesn't mean that it's been very long

  521. but they've tasted it.

  522. Number three, it says that they are partaker

  523. of the Holy Ghost.

  524. I mean, I don't know how you partake

  525. and you're not saved but that's what it says.

  526. It also then says tasted the good word of God

  527. and the powers of the world come.

  528. Just sounds like a saved person

  529. but let's just put that aside.

  530. Let's just put that aside.

  531. What is the sentence if we take these descriptors out

  532. and just kind of get to the bare root of the sentence

  533. for it is impossible for those who were once enlightened,

  534. okay, we're just taking that first part

  535. and then we're kind of going to the next section

  536. if they shall fall away to renew them

  537. again under repentance,

  538. seeing they crucified themselves

  539. and have got a fresh and put into an open chain.

  540. So somebody's falling away

  541. and then it says we cannot do something

  542. because it's impossible.

  543. Something's impossible.

  544. What's impossible?

  545. To renew them again under repentance.

  546. So it's impossible for these people to repent

  547. but notice this word again.

  548. It's impossible to repent again.

  549. Well, here's the thing.

  550. What did they repent of?

  551. What was the repentance?

  552. Well, wouldn't we use the exact same chapter

  553. to define that word

  554. if it was already used in this passage?

  555. It says in verse one

  556. that the repentance was from dead works

  557. and a faith toward God.

  558. So if we just allow the context itself to define this word,

  559. we would say this,

  560. it's impossible for you to get saved twice.

  561. I mean, that's all it's saying.

  562. Isn't that logical?

  563. Is it possible to get saved twice?

  564. No, because you can't lose your salvation.

  565. Now here's the thing.

  566. Why would I stop preaching the gospel to somebody?

  567. Wouldn't one reason be because

  568. once you're saved, you're always saved?

  569. Wouldn't it be because it's just impossible

  570. to lose it?

  571. So because if it was possible to lose it,

  572. then I could see why you say,

  573. I'm just gonna keep hammering this.

  574. Because here's the thing.

  575. What's the point of me going to advanced doctrine

  576. if half of my church is gonna lose their salvation

  577. and go to hell?

  578. Then I'm just gonna spend my whole time

  579. just trying to get you saved

  580. and make sure you stay saved, you know?

  581. Let's just all stay saved, okay?

  582. And in fact, I went to a church,

  583. it was not a good church, I'll admit this,

  584. but they had a guest preacher

  585. and he was explaining once, saved, always saved.

  586. And he said, look, if you believe

  587. that people can lose their salvation,

  588. then what we need to do is after the altar call,

  589. put a bullet in their head immediately.

  590. Because he said, going to hell is that bad

  591. that if you could possibly lose your salvation,

  592. you don't wanna risk that at all.

  593. And so as soon as someone's saved in the right state,

  594. we need to just put a bullet in their head

  595. so they're for sure going to heaven.

  596. And I was like, I mean, it does make sense.

  597. I don't wanna trust myself with that, you know?

  598. But here's the good news.

  599. It's impossible to be renewed to get under repentance, okay?

  600. And why is that good news?

  601. It's because, hey, Christ's sacrifice really did

  602. not only pay your past sins, it paid your future sins.

  603. So even if you do fall away, you can't lose your salvation.

  604. So we don't need to keep harping that point to the saved

  605. because you're already saved.

  606. Whereas the old sacrificial system

  607. that the Hebrews were under,

  608. yeah, they had to keep coming back

  609. and offering sacrifices every single time

  610. and every time they screwed up, they had to come back.

  611. And so you could see why this is a stressed

  612. and emphasized point to this group of people

  613. because their previous system made them constantly come back

  614. and constantly offer sacrifices

  615. and their sacrifices were only atoning for their past sins

  616. and he's trying to differentiate.

  617. No, no, no, Christ is not a continual sacrifice.

  618. Christ is not something that only pays for this current issue.

  619. It was a once for all sacrifice

  620. so it's impossible to renew them again under repentance.

  621. And if we did have to, if you could lose it,

  622. if you didn't need another sacrifice,

  623. then that would make Christ sacrifice of none effect

  624. and it would make it kind of shameful

  625. that it didn't really happen,

  626. didn't really pay all your sins.

  627. And notice what it says,

  628. seeing they crucified themselves,

  629. the Son of God of Fresh.

  630. If I get saved, fall away, lose my salvation

  631. and now I have to get saved again.

  632. What I'm doing is I'm crucifying Christ all over again

  633. and that's what it means of fresh,

  634. that means to do it again.

  635. So why would I be, how could I do it again

  636. if I didn't do it the first time?

  637. How could I repent again if I didn't do it the first time?

  638. It's sewing, hey, this guy repented

  639. and in a sense is receiving the crucified Christ

  640. but if he lost his salvation,

  641. well then we have to do it again.

  642. I have to repent again

  643. and he has to specifically get crucified again

  644. and that would put Christ's sacrifice to an open chain

  645. meaning that it wasn't sufficient,

  646. it didn't really pay at all,

  647. his blood wasn't enough to cover my transgressions

  648. and so therefore he's no different than a beast

  649. which simply could not forgive all of my sins.

  650. But you know what Christ's sacrifice is unique, is special,

  651. it really did pay all of our sins

  652. and so therefore we don't need to keep preaching

  653. to the saved, to stay saved

  654. because it's impossible to lose your salvation.

  655. It's that clear.

  656. Then when we throw in the added bonus

  657. of the fact that just all the descriptors

  658. made this person sound saved,

  659. well then it just kind of fits naturally.

  660. The context fits naturally, the passage fits naturally,

  661. it makes perfect sense with their doctrine, okay?

  662. Then we get to another verse, verse seven.

  663. Four, this is another because, here's another reason.

  664. Why would we stop preaching basic sermons?

  665. Number one, because you can't lose your salvation.

  666. Here's number two, why would we stop preaching basics?

  667. Four, the earth which drinketh in the rain

  668. that cometh off upon it

  669. and bringeth forth herbs meet for them

  670. by whom it is dressed, received a blessing from God.

  671. But that which beareth thorns and briers

  672. is rejected and is nigh into cursing

  673. whose end is to be burned.

  674. So he gives a parable of essentially two results.

  675. One person receiving, it's like talking about vegetation here.

  676. Vegetation receives this water and creates fruit,

  677. the other one produces thorns, okay?

  678. But here's the thing, some people would say,

  679. oh that sounds like an unsaved person.

  680. But actually in the Bible we have so many examples of this

  681. that are talking about saved people, okay?

  682. So the language by itself could be used different ways.

  683. That's what parables are.

  684. Parables often can be interpreted in lots of different ways

  685. and we have to kind of try and figure out

  686. what's the right interpretation with a parable.

  687. And a parable in the mouth of fools

  688. is just gonna be lame and not make sense.

  689. So let's compare this with another parable

  690. that is using the exact same language.

  691. Keep your finger, go to Luke chapter number eight.

  692. Go to Luke chapter number eight and let's decide

  693. if someone can have thorns and be saved.

  694. And I'm gonna show you that the Bible teaches clearly

  695. that someone can have thorns and be saved.

  696. And what would be the point of not having thorns

  697. is so that you're fruitful.

  698. It says in Luke chapter eight, look at verse number seven.

  699. And some fell among thorns and the thorns

  700. sprang up with it and choked it, okay?

  701. So this is a parable, talk about thorns,

  702. choking the seed of the word.

  703. If we skip down, it then gives us the explanation

  704. of what that even looks like.

  705. What are these thorns?

  706. Verse 14, and that which fell among thorns are they

  707. which when they have heard go forth

  708. and are choked with the cares and riches

  709. and pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection.

  710. Now does that sound like somebody who was once enlightened,

  711. made a partaker of the Holy Ghost, fell away

  712. and is now not producing any fruit?

  713. What are they producing?

  714. Thorns and that thorns is causing them

  715. to basically be unfruitful.

  716. And then of course as a result,

  717. they could be even punished by God.

  718. How do you know that?

  719. Well, go to John chapter 15.

    John 15 chapter mention

  720. Some people interpret the parable of the sower

  721. as all these people are unsaved.

  722. I don't believe that at all

  723. because the Bible made it crystal clear

  724. that those who believed were saved.

  725. The parable only has one group that's unsaved.

  726. It's those that did not believe.

  727. They received the word of God into their heart,

  728. but they didn't believe.

  729. And the devil took that which was sown out of their heart,

  730. lest they should believe and be saved

  731. as what the Bible says, okay?

  732. So all the other groups that received it,

  733. they got saved, but they just didn't do anything.

  734. You know, the ones with the parable

  735. of stony ground were immediately offended.

  736. They didn't produce fruit.

  737. The second group, they were there for a little while,

  738. but they allowed the cares of this world

  739. to choke their concerns of spiritual matters.

  740. They become too carnal.

  741. They're backslidden.

  742. They fall away from the things of God

  743. and they don't produce fruit.

  744. The last group, because they have good soil,

  745. they stick in with church.

  746. They stick in with things of God

  747. and they bring forth some 30, some 60, some 100.

  748. I don't think you have to be a soul winner

  749. getting 30 people saved or you're not saved.

  750. Like that, that's pretty extreme.

  751. And heaven's gonna be really small because think about it.

  752. Everybody that we're getting saved didn't even get saved.

  753. Because how many people are we getting saved

  754. that immediately get into, or going soul winning

  755. and getting 30 people saved themselves?

  756. Like if that's the standard,

  757. well, it's very minimal people are gonna get in heaven.

  758. And we need to change our approach

  759. because all these people that were leaving high and dry

  760. didn't get saved, you know?

  761. We'd be more focused on just getting one person in here

  762. and getting out there in the door,

  763. but that's not salvation.

  764. Salvation isn't do all this work and be saved.

  765. It's a free gift, but the laborers are still few.

  766. There's still a lot of people

  767. that don't want to actually serve God.

  768. And so that's the point of the parable.

  769. Look, the Bible is written to the disciples.

  770. It's not written to the bare minimum Christian, okay?

  771. It's not written only to explain how to be saved.

  772. It's written to also encourage us to get people saved,

  773. okay?

  774. John 15 gives a warning though

  775. that if you were abiding in Christ,

  776. you're obviously part of Christ

  777. and you decide to fall away, get back slidden,

  778. that you could be punished.

  779. Look at John 15, verse six.

  780. If a man abide not in me,

  781. he is cast forth as a branch and is withered

  782. and men gather them and cast them into the fire

  783. and they are burnt.

  784. So, you know, and again,

  785. I'm not gonna belabor these passages,

  786. but this passage is not talking about someone going to hell.

  787. He's just talking about physical destruction.

  788. We have first Corinthians chapter number five,

  789. a guy who's delivered into Satan

  790. for the destruction of the flesh

  791. that the spirit may be saved.

  792. You can be destroyed in this life

  793. through God's punishment, but you're still saved, okay?

  794. Obviously, the Christian who's enlightened

  795. and was partaker of the Holy Ghost and doing right

  796. and then just totally turns away from God,

  797. he's gonna see his life end in destruction,

  798. just like King Saul,

  799. just like other backslidden Christians we have in the Bible.

  800. You turn away from the things of God, punished, destroyed.

  801. You think about, or remember, lots wife.

  802. Lots wife turns back, turns into pillar or assault.

  803. And so, you don't wanna be a backslidden Christian

  804. because, of course, God can punish you in all kinds of ways.

  805. Go back if you would to Hebrews chapter number six

  806. and we'll keep going for a moment.

  807. But I just wanna say,

  808. what was the context we were talking about again?

  809. Oh yeah, I wanna stop preaching salvation to you.

  810. We need to learn advanced doctrine.

  811. Why?

  812. Well, you can't lose your salvation

  813. and then what's the second reason?

  814. Because you're gonna reap what you sow.

  815. Because if you actually receive the word of God

  816. and you're actually being fruitful,

  817. you'll receive a blessing.

  818. And if you're not and you're backslidden

  819. and you're producing thorns in your life,

  820. you'll receive cursing and you can be punished by God.

  821. Don't you think that's a pretty good reason to continue?

  822. If I said, hey, I don't wanna just keep preaching

  823. these basics because you need to learn stuff

  824. so you can actually produce fruit and have a blessing.

  825. And if you decide to not,

  826. well, you're gonna be punished

  827. so you need to learn this information.

  828. You need to grow, you need to get better

  829. so that you can actually produce.

  830. Think about it in another context here

  831. because this is the analogy the Bible's using is a job.

  832. He's talking about labor and we're gonna get to that point

  833. but let's say you get hired for a company.

  834. You're working for a company.

  835. You come in day one.

  836. How many people are really productive

  837. for their company on day one?

  838. You're pretty much just costing the company money.

  839. For a very short period of time,

  840. I mean you're basically doing absolutely nothing.

  841. You're just an expense.

  842. They're training you.

  843. They're giving you all kinds of materials.

  844. They're taking people off the workforce

  845. to come and show you around and show you different things.

  846. And so in many cases, you're not only not producing,

  847. you're actually taking away from the organization.

  848. You're actually costing them a lot of money.

  849. Here's the thing.

  850. You can't stay in that state

  851. and they're gonna keep hiring you

  852. or they're gonna keep you on the payroll.

  853. You have to actually start learning how to do the job

  854. and how to be productive

  855. and how to actually accomplish things.

  856. Otherwise they're gonna be like,

  857. hey, we don't want you anymore.

  858. The whole point is that you're actually plugged in

  859. and gonna produce something.

  860. In the same way that you get into the church,

  861. God wants you to actually start learning

  862. so you can start producing.

  863. And if you don't produce or whatever,

  864. then he may just take you out of the branch

  865. because what's the point?

  866. He uses these analogies again.

  867. You have a fruit tree.

  868. You're a husband man.

  869. You're trying to produce grapes

  870. or apples or whatever it is

  871. and you have this fruit tree.

  872. Well, there's all these branches on it.

  873. There's this one branch.

  874. It's just popping apples out like left and right

  875. and these are some of the greatest apples.

  876. Then you have another branch

  877. that's doing absolutely nothing and producing thorns.

  878. And every time you go to pluck off apples,

  879. you accidentally prick yourself

  880. on this one branch that just has thorns.

  881. You're like, dang it.

  882. You know what you're gonna do?

  883. You're gonna rip that stinking branch off

  884. and you're gonna burn it with fire.

  885. You're gonna go office space on that printer.

  886. You know what I mean?

  887. You're just like,

  888. I don't want this stupid branch in here anymore.

  889. Like you're gonna get rid of that branch.

  890. But see, here's the thing.

  891. That's the same with the Christian life.

  892. If you're just producing thorns in your life,

  893. hey, God may just wanna get rid of you.

  894. God may be just tired of you just being on that vine

  895. and not producing anything.

  896. And he's like, hey, this branch

  897. just keeps wasting the water that's going into this tree.

  898. I wanna keep and reserve that water

  899. for this branch that's getting 30 apples on it

  900. or 100 apples on it.

  901. I wanna get more on this particular branch.

  902. That's the whole parable.

  903. That's the whole point, okay?

  904. So then we get to verse nine.

  905. But beloved, we are persuaded better things of you

  906. and things that accompany salvation

  907. than we thus speak.

  908. Now he's making a contrast here.

  909. Why make the contrast?

  910. Well, again, because in verses four through six,

  911. the hypothetical was somebody that fell away.

  912. So what is he saying?

  913. I'm persuaded that you guys won't fall away.

  914. And I'm persuaded that you guys aren't the ones

  915. that are gonna end up being nigh to cursing

  916. and bearing the thorns, okay?

  917. I'm persuaded the better things,

  918. I'm persuaded that y'all are not gonna be like this

  919. and what things that accompany salvation

  920. though we thus speak.

  921. So though I brought these examples up

  922. of the negative examples,

  923. I'm not saying that's what y'all are gonna be like.

  924. I'm persuaded y'all are not gonna be like that.

  925. But of course, and I'm persuaded

  926. you're gonna have things that accompany salvation.

  927. But I did bring it up as another justification

  928. or explanation as to why we'd move on from the basics

  929. or moving on from the basics

  930. because at the end of the day,

  931. you can't lose your salvation,

  932. you're gonna reap what you sow.

  933. But hey, I'm persuaded that you guys

  934. are not gonna be the backslidden,

  935. you know, worst Christians of the group.

  936. I'm persuaded that you're not gonna be

  937. the people that are bruising thorns

  938. and I just wanted to explain that.

  939. Verse 10, four, another because.

  940. What's this because?

  941. Because God is not unrighteous

  942. to forget your work and labor of love,

  943. which you have showed toward his name

  944. and they have ministered to the saints to minister.

  945. So another reason why we should do this

  946. is because God will never forget

  947. your work and labor of love.

  948. So I want you guys to become mature.

  949. I want you guys to understand the Bible.

  950. I want you to have good doctrine.

  951. I want you to labor hard.

  952. Why?

  953. Because God will reward you for serving him.

  954. He's not unright, it's unrighteous

  955. to have someone work for you and you not pay them.

  956. It's unrighteous to not give them their wages.

  957. It's unrighteous to forget their work

  958. or forget their labor.

  959. Just think about it.

  960. If you just all of a sudden look at your bank account

  961. and your paycheck just didn't hit,

  962. you'd be like, well, that's kind of crummy.

  963. You go to your boss and he's just like,

  964. yeah, I don't think you work this week.

  965. Let's just not worry about it.

  966. You'd be like, well, that's not very righteous.

  967. Or someone, you'd go to someone's house

  968. and they're like, hey, I'll give you 20 bucks

  969. to mow the lawn.

  970. You mow the lawn.

  971. And he's like, I never said that,

  972. but thanks for mowing the lawn anyways.

  973. You'd be like, well, that's kind of unrighteous.

  974. That's not very good.

  975. You want someone to actually pay you

  976. for the work that you did.

  977. And it's saying God is someone that will always pay.

  978. He'll never forget.

  979. There's no work you've ever done on this earth

  980. that was for God or good that God will ever forget.

  981. That's what he's saying.

  982. So isn't that a good motive?

  983. Because sometimes in a human way,

  984. we have a lot of labor that goes unnoticed.

  985. And so there could be this incentive not to do it.

  986. You go to your work and it's like,

  987. there's a bunch of trash over here.

  988. It's not your jobs, not your responsibility.

  989. And if you clean it up, no one's gonna see.

  990. It's like, there's a temptation to be like, not my problem.

  991. Because if I go and do this work,

  992. no one's gonna notice, no one's gonna see.

  993. I'm not gonna get rewarded.

  994. I'm not getting paid extra.

  995. Hey, there's some problem at your company

  996. and you're gonna have to stay 15 minutes later

  997. to get that job done.

  998. But no one's gonna notice.

  999. Your boss isn't gonna see it.

1000. You're not gonna get paid for that 15 minutes.

1001. There's an incentive not to do it.

1002. But here's the thing with God, he always sees it.

1003. He sees every time you pick up that piece of trash

1004. that wasn't yours, every minute that you stayed extra,

1005. every little thing that you did.

1006. And you know, I worked for a boss

1007. and I at least appreciated his attempt

1008. to try and help people do this

1009. is he tried to make every employee a stockholder.

1010. And then he would try to tell people,

1011. hey, you're not an employee, you're an owner.

1012. Because he said owners often

1013. will take better care of their businesses.

1014. Because you know, when you're an owner

1015. you wanna pick up the trash,

1016. you wanna take care of stuff

1017. because you feel like it's important to you.

1018. And so that was kind of his principle and his philosophy

1019. of kind of addressing this problem.

1020. But you know, the way God wants you to address this

1021. is like, hey, I'm always watching and I always know.

1022. And look, even if it a human sense,

1023. humans won't notice, God always knows anyways.

1024. So you should just go ahead and do it anyways.

1025. Because God will bless you carnally and spiritually

1026. when you're just doing right and doing the good thing

1027. when no one notices, no one's looking around,

1028. you're gonna reap what you sow

  1029. and God's not unrighteous

1030. and God takes these things seriously.

1031. And notice, why are you even doing this in the first place?

  1032. You're a labor of love,

1033. which you have showed toward his name

1034. and that you have ministered to the saints

  1035. and do minister.

1036. Notice that you're loving Christians,

1037. you're doing good unto Christians

1038. and God notices that, God loves that.

1039. God really appreciates Christians loving other Christians.

1040. What does minister to serve?

  1041. Serving other Christians.

1042. And of course, where are you gonna do that?

  1043. It's called church, folks.

1044. You know, oh, I don't like church.

1045. Oh, so you don't like helping other people?

1046. You don't like ministering other people?

1047. You don't have any love in your heart?

  1048. Oh, well, churchful hypocrites.

1049. Well, why don't you love that hypocrite

1050. and help him not be a hypocrite anymore?

1051. And I'd love to see,

1052. I'd love to meet the person that's not a hypocrite.

  1053. Okay.

1054. And I'd love to find the institution

1055. that's not full of hypocrites.

1056. Is that the federal government?

  1057. Is that the college?

1058. You know, is that, what is this magical institution?

1059. Is that the Israeli government?

1060. You know, is that the Muslims?

  1061. I mean, it's just like,

  1062. what's this magical environment,

1063. this magical group where there's no hypocrites

  1064. or whatever?

1065. You know, it's just silly.

1066. But again, people just don't like church

1067. and they try to say church is bad,

1068. but ultimately what they're saying

1069. is I don't want to serve other people and I'm selfish.

  1070. That's really what they're saying.

  1071. I don't love God.

1072. I don't appreciate what he did for me.

1073. I don't want to work and I don't want to serve people.

  1074. That's what they're saying.

1075. But of course, that doesn't sound good.

1076. Hey, I'm selfish and lazy.

1077. Has anybody even heard that at the door?

  1078. Like, I don't even hear that.

1079. You know, it's just like,

1080. I mean, maybe it once in a blue moon,

  1081. but it's just like,

1082. they're just like, no, there are hypocrites,

  1083. they're bad.

  1084. I don't like it.

1085. And it's just like, well, okay,

1086. but we're here to serve imperfect people.

1087. We're here to serve people.

1088. And if you're so much better than all of us,

1089. why don't you come lead by example?

1090. It's funny how all the people that don't go to church

1091. are better than all the people going to church.

1092. What would God, they would just show up

1093. and just show us and basically,

1094. we could just benefit from their presence

1095. and their glory and their non-hypocritical nature.

  1096. Of course.

1097. Of course this person is like, where do you go to church?

1098. What's the name of it again?

  1099. Yeah, because you're not a hypocrite.

1100. But we've explained this point.

1101. This is why it's important to me too.

1102. In verse nine, notice it says the things

  1103. that accompany salvation.

1104. Doesn't that kind of give you an indication

1105. that what we're talking about in this passage

  1106. is not salvation itself?

  1107. It's a company.

1108. But modern versions change this verse.

1109. So the modern versions don't say a company salvation.

1110. This is what the ESV says, things that belong to salvation.

1111. So I was listening to some Calvinists

1112. and he's basically explaining like,

1113. hey this passage is about salvation

1114. and how to get saved and stuff.

1115. And I'm just thinking like,

1116. and then his justification is because verse nine says,

1117. we're talking about things that belong to salvation.

1118. And I'm like, whoa, that's not what the passage

  1119. says at all.

1120. It says the exact opposite in the King James.

1121. NIV, the things that have to do with salvation.

  1122. Wow.

1123. So again, the modern versions invert this

1124. to where we're not talking about things

  1125. that accompany salvation.

1126. We're talking about things that have to do with salvation.

1127. But here's the thing, what is the context?

  1128. Working.

1129. So then it's really easy to teach work salvation

1130. when your Bible is saying that works belong to salvation

1131. or that works are somehow having to do with salvation,

1132. whereas the King James is saying it accompanies salvation.

1133. It's the things that are accompanying it,

1134. not the things that have to do with it or belong to it.

1135. And so that's why it's really important

1136. to have a King James Bible.

  1137. Because this isn't a verse that's taken out.

1138. This is just one little word twisted and perverted

1139. to mean the exact opposite.

1140. And then it affects salvific doctrine.

1141. And of course, there's a lot of people that have weird

1142. version, you know, weird ideas or views on Hebrew six.

1143. They'll teach this teaches that you can lose your salvation.

1144. And then when you lose it, you can never get it back.

  1145. That's kind of scary.

1146. You know, that would be kind of weird,

1147. especially since the Bible never teaches

1148. you can lose your salvation anywhere else.

1149. Or they'll say, I heard some people say,

1150. oh, this is about the tribulation.

1151. In the tribulation, you can lose your salvation

1152. because there's gonna be these backslidden Christians

1153. who take the mark and then they lost it.

1154. Well, I would agree with you they're not saved,

1155. but they didn't lose their salvation, they never had it.

1156. But I do believe that we'll see a lot of people

1157. that were, quote, Christian in the end times

1158. taking the mark of the beast, okay?

1159. They didn't lose their salvation though, folks.

1160. They never had it to begin with, okay?

1161. You cannot lose your salvation.

  1162. There's a lot, there's so many different views,

1163. but I just wanna take a second and we'll finish this passage

1164. and then we're gonna insert a few different options

1165. to see which makes the most sense.

1166. But why are we talking about the things

1167. that come in salvation because God's not gonna forget

1168. your work in labor above?

  1169. Verse 11.

1170. And we desire that every one of you do so

1171. the same diligence to the full assurance

1172. of hope under the end that you be not slothful,

1173. but followers of them who through faith and patience

  1174. inherit the promises.

1175. So again, for the work salvation is the same,

1176. see, you gotta endure to the end,

1177. you gotta do all these works to get the promises.

  1178. But notice it's a promises plural.

1179. Because we're not talking about eternal life,

1180. we're talking about the rewards associated

1181. with the work that we do

1182. and the things that accompany salvation.

1183. Because there's more than one promise.

1184. Obviously there's the promise of eternal life

1185. that we receive by faith in Christ.

1186. But then there's other promises like crowns

1187. and rewards in heaven that are associated

1188. with us showing diligence, working hard,

1189. laboring under the end, enduring under the end.

1190. Those are special rewards and privileges

1191. for those who were faithful in the Christian life.

1192. So we all get to heaven by faith,

1193. we are rewarded based on our works and diligence.

1194. Verse 13, for when God made promise to Abraham,

1195. because he could square by no greater

1196. he would serve by himself,

1197. saying surely blessing I'll bless thee

1198. and multiplying I'll multiply thee.

1199. And so after he had patiently endured,

  1200. he obtained the promise.

1201. For men verily served by the greater

1202. and an oath for confirmation

1203. is to them an end of all strife.

  1204. So Abraham patiently endured.

1205. Did Abraham have to patiently endure

  1206. to get eternal life?

1207. No, he patiently endured to receive

  1208. the promise of reward,

1209. the promise of being the great patriarch

  1210. of the Hebrew faith

1211. and having the Hebrew children

1212. and having being the progenitor to this great nation.

1213. And of course the progenitor

1214. of the Jesus Christ himself.

1215. And so there's all kinds of different things

1216. that could be associated with this

  1217. just not salvation itself.

1218. Because we're talking about things

  1219. that accompany salvation.

1220. We're not talking about salvation,

1221. we're talking about things that accompany salvation.

1222. Don't get an NIV or ESV.

1223. We're not talking about things that belong to salvation.

1224. We're not talking about things

1225. that have to do with salvation.

1226. We're talking about things that accompany salvation.

1227. And of course, Abraham is a great example

1228. of someone who endured to the end,

1229. of someone who patiently endured,

1230. who had diligence, who worked really hard

1231. and he did not receive eternal life

1232. through his diligence and his hard work.

1233. Then he has wear of the glory.

1234. He did it through his faith in Jesus Christ.

1235. But he is justified in being the friend of God

  1236. based on his works.

1237. He is justified in being the progenitor of our faith.

1238. Okay, so we wanna rightly divide this clear passage.

1239. He says then in verse number 17,

1240. wherein God willing more abundantly to show

1241. under the heirs of promise the immutability

1242. of his counsel confirmed by an oath

1243. that by two immutable things

1244. in which it was impossible for God to lie,

1245. we might have a strong consolation

1246. who have fled for refuge to lay hold

1247. upon the hope set before us,

1248. which hope we have as an anchor of the soul

1249. both here and set fast

1250. and which entereth into that within the veil

1251. whether the forerunner is for us entered in even Jesus,

1252. made in high priest forever after the order of Mccasitic.

1253. So we've kind of taken a little detour

1254. off of the book of Hebrews.

1255. That's chapter six is kind of a detour

  1256. because he's building a context.

1257. He wants to explain the importance

  1258. of Jesus Christ being

1259. that ultimate sacrifice in Mccasitic.

1260. And he says, but I can't completely explain this to you

1261. until we realize we gotta leave salvation.

1262. We gotta stop talking about salvation for a minute

1263. and start talking about things that accompany salvation.

  1264. Isn't that important?

1265. It's important sometimes when we're talking about works

1266. that we sometimes make a little caveat,

1267. detour for a second and say, hey, just everybody knows,

1268. salvation's a free gift by faith, you can't lose it.

1269. Then we go back, God will punish you for not working

1270. and we wanna make sure that we work really hard.

1271. It's kind of that normal detour

1272. that we all make as preachers

1273. trying to make this careful delineation

1274. saying, hey, we're not talking about salvation,

  1275. we're leaving that,

1276. we're not talking about the foundation,

1277. we're not talking about repentance,

1278. we're not talking about these other doctrines,

  1279. we're leaving that

1280. and we're going on to perfection over here

1281. and we're talking about things that accompany salvation.

1282. Now let's finish the book of Hebrews.

1283. Let's finish the book of Hebrews realizing

1284. that we're talking about things that accompany salvation,

1285. not salvation, don't get screwed up on this.

1286. Don't ever sit here and take chapter seven, eight,

1287. nine, 10 is talking about salvation

1288. is talking about things that accompany salvation.

1289. We had to make that detour,

1290. we had to make that clarity to say,

  1291. hey, we're leaving that,

1292. we're not talking about that kind of stuff anymore,

  1293. we're talking about this.

  1294. Why?

1295. Because you can't lose your salvation, folks.

  1296. Why?

1297. Because you're gonna reap what you sow

1298. and God's not gonna forget your worker labor of love

1299. and it's important to do that work

1300. and it's important to patiently endure

1301. and we want you to inherit the promises

  1302. not just eternal life.

1303. Hey, some people are getting eternal life

  1304. and that's it.

1305. Some people are gonna inherit promises.

1306. I wanna be that group that inherits promises

1307. with an S at the end of it,

  1308. not just eternal life.

1309. Now praise God, I've already got eternal life.

1310. I'm locked in, but you know what?

1311. I wanna inherit other promises too,

1312. other rewards and that's the motivation

1313. and of course, well, as an example of this, Abraham

1314. and then the most important forerunner

1315. or example or model is Jesus himself.

1316. Look at all things he endured,

1317. look how he made it to the end,

1318. look how faithful he was, okay?

1319. That's the whole context, that's the whole point

  1320. of Hebrews, okay?

1321. It can seem like a very difficult book

1322. but I think when you slow down,

1323. pay attention, it makes a lot of sense.

1324. Now, I brought this board up here

1325. and I just wanna re-emphasize this point

1326. just before I move on.

1327. Let's just think about the greater context

1328. of the sentence that we've made here in chapter one, okay?

1329. Chapter one, I'm sorry, chapter six, verse one.

  1330. What are we doing?

  1331. We're leaving the basics

1332. and we're gonna learn advanced doctrine.

  1333. That's what it's clearly saying, okay?

1334. Then when we get down to verse nine,

1335. he says, and we are persuaded,

1336. you will have things that accompany salvation

1337. and God will not forget your labor, okay?

1338. That's a clear bread to our sandwich.

1339. So didn't we just wanna figure out like,

1340. what did this middle say?

1341. Let's insert what so many people teach

1342. is that you can lose your salvation, all right?

  1343. Let's think about this.

1344. Let's leave the basics and learn advanced doctrine

1345. because you can lose your salvation.

1346. Why would I stop teaching you salvation

1347. if you could lose your salvation?

1348. And then it says, and we're persuaded,

1349. you will have things that accompany salvation

1350. and God won't forget your work and labor love.

  1351. Why would I care?

1352. How does that make sense?

1353. It doesn't make sense for me to say, hey,

1354. we need to stop teaching you about salvation

1355. because you can lose it and you'll never get it back

1356. but you know what, God's gonna reward you for your works.

1357. Why would I care about being rewarded for works

1358. because people can lose their salvation and never get it back?

1359. Like, has that ever been a motivation for you?

1360. It's like, hey, why are you out here so winning?

1361. Because some people are gonna lose their salvation

1362. and they can never get it back.

1363. Like, that's never motivated me

1364. to preach the gospel to anybody.

  1365. I don't know if it's motivated you.

  1366. It's a weird motivation.

1367. Maybe there is some people out there.

  1368. They're like, I'm just hoping I reprimand somebody

1369. out here, you know, while I'm preaching the gospel.

  1370. Like, I don't know.

1371. It doesn't really make any sense to me, okay?

1372. There's another idea that maybe it's just saying

1373. some people, they learned about the gospel

1374. and they had a lot of chances and they didn't like it

1375. and then as a result, they rejected it

1376. and so now they're reprobate, okay?

1377. But again, we are gonna leave teaching the basics

  1378. and learn advanced doctrine

1379. because reprobates can't get saved

  1380. and we're persuaded that you're not a reprobate.

1381. Why would I be persuaded that you're not a reprobate?

1382. Like, and that you have things in a company's salvation.

1383. You know, at the end of the day,

  1384. I can't really know who's a reprobate or not.

1385. You know, like when they're an infiltrator.

1386. Let me make this clear, okay?

1387. I do believe that reprobates are manifest in this world

1388. but we're talking about the people in church

  1389. professing faith in Christ.

  1390. I can't tell if they're reprobate yet, okay?

1391. Eventually they can manifest themselves later

1392. but at the end of the day, you know,

1393. I wanna stop teaching salvation and learning doctrine

1394. because of the fact that I can't lose my salvation

1395. because I'm gonna be rewarded based on what I do

1396. and I'm persuaded that you guys wanna do that with me

1397. so that we can have things in the company's salvation

1398. and God's not gonna forget our labor.

1399. That kind of just fits like a perfect glove.

1400. The other ones are just left hanging

1401. because again, I'm not really motivated,

1402. I'm not really motivated to work hard

1403. because reprobates can't get saved

1404. or because people could lose their salvation

1405. or any of these other ideas

1406. but I am motivated that I will be rewarded

1407. based on what I do

1408. or that I'll be punished based on what I do.

1409. That is a very clear indication.

1410. So again, I think that this is pretty clear.

1411. I just like to show the context

1412. so that people maybe get a better idea

1413. but I wanna prove it further with the same book, okay?

1414. Let's go to chapter number 10 for a moment now.

  1415. Let's go to chapter number 10

1416. and continue our thoughts here.

1417. Look at verse number 15.

1418. Where have the Holy Ghost also as a witness to us

1419. for after that he had said before

1420. this is the covenant that I'll make with them

1421. in those days, after those days, say to the Lord

1422. I will put my laws in their hearts

1423. and in their minds will I write them

1424. and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

1425. So, chapter seven, eight and nine,

  1426. explain Melchizedek.

1427. They explain the crisis of once for all sacrifice.

1428. So now that we're getting into chapter 10,

1429. we're kind of revisiting that same thought

1430. that we left off with.

1431. He's saying here that Christ,

1432. notice that we're talking about the New Testament

1433. that it's gonna purge all of our sins and iniquities.

1434. Notice and he'll remember them no more.

1435. Verse 18, now we're remission of these is

1436. there is no more offering for sin.

  1437. That's a main point.

1438. There's no more offering for sin.

  1439. There's no more sacrifice.

1440. It's never gonna happen again, okay?

  1441. Having therefore brethren boldness

1442. to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus

1443. by a new and living way

1444. which he had consecrated for us through the veil

1445. that is to say his flesh

1446. and having a high priest over the house of God

1447. let us draw near with a true heart

1448. in full assurance of faith

1449. having our sprinkled from an evil conscience

1450. and our bodies washed with pure water.

  1451. Why is this important?

  1452. In the Old Testament,

1453. if I'm an Old Testament saint,

1454. I can't get into the holiest of holies.

1455. I've forbidden because I'm not the high priest.

1456. Even the Levites, they can't get in that part.

1457. It's only the high priest once a year

1458. goes in the holiest of holies

1459. to offer some kind of a sacrifice

1460. for the atonement or the sins of the people, okay?

1461. Me, as just a normal person,

1462. I can go to the Levites

1463. and I can offer my sacrifices

1464. but they kinda do it for me.

1465. I still can't even go to the holies of holies.

1466. But now we have a new,

1467. meaning different and living way

1468. to enter into the holiest

1469. but it's not through a continual sacrifice

1470. because there's no more offering for sin.

  1471. There's zero more sacrifices.

1472. I do it through what Jesus Christ already did

1473. and I can have what, boldness?

  1474. Because there's a thing,

1475. if we fast forward back in time

1476. or we went reverse back in time,

1477. we're in the Old Testament covenant

  1478. and there's the temple,

1479. you would not have boldness

1480. to walk into the holies of holy

  1481. because you're gonna die.

1482. People that walked in there

1483. or irreverent or were not allowed to go in there,

  1484. they died.

1485. You would not have any boldness to walk in there.

1486. You would not have boldness

1487. to stand before God in that sense.

1488. And so we're talking about getting boldness

1489. through the blood of Jesus Christ,

  1490. through His sacrifice,

1491. that the veil has been torn and rent

1492. and there's no more this curtain separating us

1493. from the God of the Bible

1494. and that we can go to the Father through Jesus Christ.

  1495. That's the veil, right?

1496. The veil is His flesh is what it's saying.

1497. And we have this high priest is Jesus.

1498. You could only get to God the Father,

1499. the high priest in the Old Testament in a shadow

1500. but really the high priest is Jesus

1501. and that's the way we get to the Father

1502. is through that high priest

1503. and through His offering and through His sacrifice.

1504. Okay, so all these things are a shadow

1505. of what Christ is gonna do for us.

1506. So then we're supposed to do what in verse 22?

1507. Let us draw near with a true heart

1508. in full assurance of faith,

1509. having a heart sprinkled from an evil conscience

1510. in our body's wash with pure water.

1511. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith

1512. without wavering for he is faithful that promised.

1513. And let us consider what another provoke

1514. unto love and good works.

1515. Isn't this the same message as Hebrews chapter number six?

  1516. Hey, you know what?

1517. We can't lose our salvation even if we fell away.

1518. We're not gonna sacrifice Christ again.

1519. We have no more offering for sin.

1520. And of course at the end of the day

1521. we should be provoking one another

1522. and we should be drawing near to God

1523. for love and for good works.

1524. That's what it said in chapter six verse 10.

1525. That he's not gonna forget your work

1526. and labor of love, okay?

1527. And then how do we do that?

1528. Verse 25, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together

1529. as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another

1530. and so much the more as you see the approaching.

1531. Chapter six is warning about people that what?

  1532. Fall away.

1533. Chapter 10 is warning about people

1534. that are forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.

  1535. That's falling away, right?

  1536. Getting out of church.

1537. And look, people that quit church

1538. are not zealous soul winners.

1539. They're not zealous Bible readers.

1540. They're not following the commandments of God.

1541. Don't get confused that these people,

1542. oh I have church at my house.

1543. We're having church right now.

1544. These people are not serving God.

  1545. They're backslidden.

1546. They get in all kinds of heresy and false doctrine.

1547. They get in all kinds of sins.

1548. They get in all kinds of trouble.

  1549. All kinds of problems.

1550. The people that are serving God are in church, folks.

1551. And we shouldn't be forsaking the assembling

1552. of ourselves together as the manner of some is,

1553. that's those that fall away.

  1554. Why?

1555. We should be exhorting one another.

1556. Verse 26, for if we sin willfully

1557. after that we've received the knowledge of the truth,

1558. there are made it no more sacrifice for sins.

1559. We just keep repeating the same point.

1560. Hey, if you fall away,

1561. you're not gonna crucify Christ fresh.

1562. You're not gonna put him to an open shame.

1563. We're not doing that again, okay?

1564. Well, what did chapter six tell us would happen

1565. if we fell away and we're just in this

1566. an unrepentant, you know, willful sin attitude?

1567. Aren't you nying to cursing?

1568. Aren't you gonna potentially be punished?

1569. Which is what the chapter said.

1570. Let's see what it says here.

1571. It says, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment

1572. and notice this, and fiery indignation

1573. which should devour the adversaries.

1574. Isn't that fire sound like the exact same fire brought up

1575. in Hebrews chapter number six, verse number eight.

1576. It's saying, hey, they're nigh under burning.

1577. That sounds like a fiery indignation.

1578. If you ask me, same exact concepts

1579. being reiterated again in chapter number 10.

1580. It says in verse eight, 28,

1581. he that despised Moses' law died without mercy

1582. under two or three witnesses of how much sore punishment

1583. supposed ye shall be thought worthy

1584. who had trodden under foot the Son of God

1585. and accounted the blood of the covenant

1586. wherewith he was sanctified and unholy thing

1587. and done despite undisputed grace.

1588. So, you know, some people would love to say

1589. that these are talking about people losing their salvation.

1590. You have to have these works.

1591. You have to do it into the end.

1592. But notice this just makes it really clear.

  1593. We're talking about a saved person.

1594. Because notice it says here, he was sanctified.

1595. So how do you get sanctified?

1596. Well, it says in the verse,

1597. or the statement by the blood of the covenant.

1598. They were sanctified by the blood of covenant.

1599. Sounds like someone that was made a partaker

1600. of the Holy Ghost and his taste of the good word of God.

  1601. But you know what?

1602. They did something despite the spirit of grace.

1603. How can you do something despite the spirit of grace

1604. if you don't even have the spirit of grace?

1605. If you don't even have grace.

1606. It's just saying, like, shall we continue

1607. and sin that grace may abound?

1608. God forbid, that's what the Bible says.

1609. Grace will abound, but should you do that?

  1610. God forbid.

1611. And if you do that, there's a certain fearful looking for

1612. of fiery judgment, of fiery indignation,

1613. of judgment of fiery indignation.

1614. It's gonna consume the adversary.

1615. You don't wanna just provoke God.

1616. You don't wanna just tempt God.

1617. You don't wanna just mock God and say,

  1618. well, I can't go to hell,

1619. so I'm just gonna live like hell.

1620. Well, nope, God will punish you.

1621. And you will reap what you sow.

1622. And you wanna produce thorns in your life?

  1623. Well, God's gonna say,

1624. I don't like this branch on the olive tree.

1625. I wanna rip it out and I'm gonna get rid of it.

1626. Hey, you wanna look back at Sodom?

1627. I'll turn you into pillar of salt.

1628. You know, if a salt is lost to savor,

1629. it's good for nothing but be cast out

1630. and trodden under foot of men.

1631. I mean, the Bible warns a lot

1632. about being punished even though you're saved.

1633. And not just the natural consequences of sin.

1634. Okay, I get that there's natural consequences of sin.

1635. Yes, if you punch yourself in the face, it'll hurt.

1636. But let me tell you something.

1637. God will punish you on top

1638. of the natural consequences of sin too.

1639. And you don't want to test and tempt and mess with God.

  1640. Let's get it clear, verse 30.

1641. For we know him that hath said,

  1642. vengeance belongeth unto me,

1643. I will recompense, say the Lord.

1644. And again, the Lord shall judge,

1645. notice this word, his people.

1646. Let's not talk about unsaved people.

1647. God can even judge his people.

1648. The saved, those that have been sanctified.

1649. It's a fearful thing to fall in the hands of the living God,

1650. but call to remember the former days

1651. in which after you were illuminated,

1652. you endured a great flight of afflictions.

1653. Partly while you were made a gazing stock

1654. both by reproaches and afflictions,

1655. and partly whilst you became companions of them

  1656. that were so used.

1657. For you had compassion of me and my bonds

1658. and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods,

1659. knowing in yourselves that you have in heaven

1660. a better and enduring substance.

1661. Cast not away there for your confidence,

  1662. which hath great recompense.

  1663. Notice this, of reward.

1664. Are we talking about eternal life?

1665. Are we talking about rewards?

  1666. We're talking about rewards.

1667. Are we talking about salvation

1668. or things that accompany salvation?

  1669. Things that accompany salvation.

1670. Now again, what's the context here?

1671. He's saying, look guys, when this first happened,

1672. right after the gospel, every Hebrew, every Jew

1673. that sided with Christ and believed the gospel,

  1674. what did they become?

  1675. Y'all were made a gazing stock

1676. both by reproaches and afflictions.

1677. It was like, you guys got made fun of

  1678. for becoming Christians.

1679. And for going away from this Old Testament,

1680. dead works and the sacrificial system.

1681. You were made a mockery and the Jews rejected you

1682. and they didn't like you.

1683. The unsaved Jews made fun of the saved Jews.

1684. And it's like, look, if you've already gone through

1685. this fight, if you've already been made a laughing stock,

1686. if you've already been ridiculed,

1687. then go ahead and just embrace Christianity, you know?

  1688. Just go ahead.

1689. It's like, why would you go to steadfast,

1690. go through the three years

1691. where we're protested every single service

1692. and all the evictions and all the mocking

1693. and all the ridicule, and then quit afterwards?

1694. It's like, just keep going.

1695. Just keep being steadfast, right?

1696. I mean, when it's not even hard, why would you give up now?

1697. I mean, there are some people that were with us

1698. during all the hard years, all the persecution,

1699. all the ridicule, all the mocking,

1700. and then now they want to give up,

1701. you're just like, bro, just keep going.

1702. What's the point given up now?

1703. Well, and that's kind of the point that he's trying to make.

  1704. Guess why?

  1705. Well, there's a great recompense,

  1706. meaning, what is recompense?

  1707. Being repaid.

  1708. There's a great recompense of reward.

1709. God will reward you for being mocked

1710. and ridiculed and persecuted for his namesake.

  1711. So the Bible says,

1712. for you have need of patience

1713. that after you have done the will of God,

1714. you might receive the promise for yet a little while,

1715. and he that shall come will come and will not tarry.

1716. Now the just shall live by faith,

1717. but if any man draw back my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

1718. So again, this is the same as what it says

1719. in the next chapter, chapter 11.

1720. Look at verse number six.

1721. But without faith, it is impossible to please him

1722. for he that comeeth to God must believe that he is,

  1723. and notice this,

1724. and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

1725. So we have to believe that God is gonna diligently

1726. reward us based on our works.

1727. He's not unrighteous to forget our work

  1728. and labor of love.

1729. And we're talking about things that accompany salvation.

1730. We never left that context from chapter six.

1731. So he's saying, but it's impossible to please God

1732. if you have no faith.

1733. You're dead like the widow who's living in pleasure.

1734. She's dead while she lives is what the Bible says.

1735. So God's not pleased with you.

1736. God's not happy that you're producing nothing.

  1737. God doesn't like it.

1738. So you have to continue in your faith.

1739. You have to continue pleasing him.

1740. And of course, without faith,

1741. it's impossible to please him is what the Bible says.

1742. So when it says in verse 38,

1743. now that just shall live by faith,

1744. that's us exercising our faith every day.

1745. Not just, they're not talking about salvation.

1746. We're talking about things that accompany salvation, folks.

1747. But if any man does it, draw back.

  1748. Somebody falls away.

  1749. Somebody that willfully sins.

1750. Someone that's forsaken assembling ourselves together.

1751. Why do you bring those verses up?

1752. Because that's what the Bible said.

  1753. That's the context.

  1754. That's what the Bible's bringing up.

1755. If those people draw away, God's not pleased with them.

1756. And God may burn them in a carnal sense, right?

1757. The destruction of the flesh,

1758. that the spirit may be saved in the day,

1759. and the spirit may be saved, okay?

1760. But then it brings up verse 39, okay?

1761. But we are not of them who draw back on a perdition,

1762. but of them that believe in saving as old.

1763. Now this is a difficult verse for a lot of people.

1764. And again, we're covering the difficult verses.

1765. Why does verse 39 exist?

1766. I believe that verse 39 exists as a clear caveat

  1767. to what's being described.

1768. And if you study Hebrews, you'll understand

1769. that in chapters three and four,

1770. he uses the analogy of the children of Israel

  1771. wandering through the wilderness,

1772. not entering the promised land because of unbelief.

  1773. Now here's the thing.

1774. Was every single person under Moses' leadership

1775. unsaved except for Joshua and Caleb?

1776. Because they're the only ones that went into the promised land.

  1777. No, absolutely not.

  1778. Obviously Moses is saved.

1779. Moses doesn't even get in, okay?

1780. But what we understand is there was a lot of people

1781. in that crowd that weren't saved too.

  1782. They never got saved.

1783. And of course the people that are not saved,

1784. they're never gonna have the faith.

1785. They're never gonna go in.

1786. They're never gonna do these things.

  1787. They're gonna draw back.

1788. They're gonna be the murmurs.

1789. They're gonna be the complainers.

1790. They're gonna be the gainsayers.

  1791. They're gonna resist.

  1792. They're gonna rebel.

  1793. They're gonna do wickedly.

  1794. They're gonna mock.

  1795. They're gonna scoff.

1796. They're gonna get into fornication.

1797. They're gonna get into idolatry.

1798. They're gonna get into false religion.

1799. They're gonna do everything wrong

1800. to every good work reprobate, okay?

1801. There was people like that in this group.

  1802. But here's the thing.

1803. You know what they sometimes do?

1804. Is they draw saved people with them, okay?

1805. And so sometimes from our perspective,

  1806. we can't tell who's who.

1807. We just see people going after idolatry,

1808. going after the fornication, leaving the camp,

  1809. doing wickedly.

1810. And we're just thinking like, well, nuts to y'all, okay?

1811. And in that group, some are just reprobate, unsaved,

1812. wicked, false prophets and weirdos and losers.

1813. And then some of those people are just backslidden Christians

1814. that got mixed up with them.

1815. And what the Bible is saying here,

  1816. is you're saying, hey,

1817. we're not of them that draw back under perdition, okay?

1818. There are some people that will get drawn away

1819. out of church, will leave church,

1820. will get mixed up in idolatry,

1821. get mixed up in fornication, listen to heresy,

1822. to all kinds of stupid things,

1823. basically just allow unsaved, wicked, false prophets

1824. to lead them astray, but they didn't go to hell.

1825. They're not, notice, he doesn't even say

1826. like a possible situation here.

1827. He says it's just with certainty.

1828. We are not of them who draw back under perdition.

1829. So the people that give up on church of this group,

1830. the people that quit, the people that get backslidden,

1831. the people that go back to heresy,

1832. they're not going to hell, okay?

1833. They're still gonna be saved,

1834. but they're still gonna be punished.

1835. And so he's just making the clear caveat.

1836. He's just making the clear understanding that, hey,

1837. even if you fall away, even if you draw back,

1838. even if you screw up, you're still going to heaven,

1839. and we're not of that group, okay?

1840. We're not talking about salvation,

1841. we're talking about things that accompany salvation,

1842. so I wanna make it clear

1843. we're not of the group that drew back under perdition.

1844. They're the group that drew back

1845. unto carnal punishment, under the fiery indignation,

1846. under the judgment of God, but are still saved.

1847. They're the ones like the guy in 1 Corinthians 5

1848. that is delivered unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh,

1849. but his spirit is still saved.

1850. He's not of the group that was the reprobate people

1851. that went out from us, but they were not of us,

1852. because if they were of us,

1853. they would no doubt have continued with us, okay?

1854. So I believe that's why that verse is there.

1855. Everything else in this whole chapter,

1856. and the next chapter have nothing to do

1857. with this verse really, so that's why it's easy

1858. for me to just explain this as a caveat verse,

1859. and it's then leading us into the next chapter

1860. that's clearly articulating those who were the Hall of Faith,

  1861. okay?

1862. And I think that's an important caveat to make.

1863. Hey, just to make it clear,

1864. we're not talking about people going to ever hell,

  1865. that's a whole different group.

1866. We're talking about the people that were faithful,

1867. and we wanna distinguish between

1868. the greatest Christians and the least Christians.

1869. We're not talking about the people that were unsaved,

1870. not to those people, okay?

1871. Why write a passage to these people?

1872. Why do we care about those people?

1873. Why would you write the entire book of Hebrews

1874. to a bunch of unsaved people that are never gonna get saved?

1875. It's just focusing on the saved.

1876. That's why in chapters one, two, three,

1877. it's just like the beloved, beloved, beloved, we, we,

1878. you know, hey, we are not of them

1879. that draw back into perdition.

  1880. We're not the Jews,

1881. because again, the Hebrews are the Jews here.

1882. We're not the Jews that are gonna go to hell.

1883. We're the Jews that are gonna be saved,

1884. but we wanna be the Jews that were like Joshua and Caleb

1885. and entered the Promised Land.

1886. We wanna be the Jews that were like Abraham

1887. and like Moses and like all the great patriarchs of the faith.

1888. We wanna be like Samsa and we wanna be like Gideon

1889. and we wanna be like Jephthah.

1890. We don't wanna be the people that drew back and lapsed faith

1891. and were just carnal and backslidden.

1892. We don't wanna be like those Jews.

1893. We wanna be like the good Jews, okay?

1894. And we're not of that other group.

1895. That's the clear context of this bigger passage.

1896. Now I'm out of time,

1897. but I'm just gonna reiterate these points, okay?

1898. Why talk about this sermon?

1899. Well, we want to come to church not to get you saved.

1900. I'm not here to get you saved this morning.

1901. I'm here to preach you something that's advanced.

1902. I'm trying to get you to learn.

1903. Now look, if you're not saved,

1904. come up to me after the service and I'll get you saved.

1905. Hey, if you're not saved,

1906. ask anybody in this room.

1907. They'll probably get you saved, okay?

1908. And if they're not sure, ask someone else, all right?

  1909. Ask someone that's sure.

1910. Ask an adult, you know, you're probably good, okay?

1911. But here's the thing, we're not here

1912. to try and get saved again.

1913. We're not here to learn the basics again.

1914. We're here to learn some advanced doctrine.

  1915. Why?

1916. So that you can have things at a company's salvation.

  1917. And people get mad.

1918. They'll be like, oh, why don't you just preach the gospel?

1919. Look, I get this comment all the time.

1920. Oh, I listen to Pastor Charlie's sermon.

1921. He's not even preaching the gospel in the sermon.

  1922. Yeah.

1923. You really want me to just preach the gospel every week?

1924. Just every service, just every statement.

1925. It's just like, go soul wedding with me

1926. and you'll hear it to your heart's content.

1927. It'll be coming out your nose, okay?

1928. You'll hear it so much.

1929. But you know what, when we come to church,

1930. we're not gonna be emphasizing the gospel

  1931. every single service.

1932. Now look, I'm not against a basic sermon.

1933. I'm not against the milk occasionally.

1934. We need some of that, but we also need the other.

1935. So we come to church and what's the point

1936. so that we can discern good and evil?

1937. Go back to chapter five and notice again,

  1938. what was the point?

1939. Verse 14, but strong meat belongeth to them

1940. that are of full age, even those who by reason of use

1941. have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

1942. Now look, people go soul wedding regularly.

1943. I don't even really have to belabor the point to them

1944. that these other denominations are not saved.

  1945. You know why?

1946. Because they've already had their senses exercised by use

1947. and they've knocked on those doors

1948. and they've heard the Catholics say be a good person.

  1949. They've heard the non-denominational guys

1950. say you can lose your salvation.

1951. They've heard the Pentecostal say that they met

1952. with Jesus last night in a dream.

1953. Okay, I don't even have to explain to this guy.

1954. Whereas you and I both know, our family members

1955. and friends and people that we're close to

1956. that don't go to church at all that are saved,

1957. we're like, hey the Pentecostals aren't saved.

1958. Like what do you mean the Pentecostals aren't saved?

1959. What do you mean the Catholics aren't saved?

1960. I'm like, what do you mean they're like worshiping idols

1961. and they have all this crazy doctrine?

1962. We don't have to explain that to each other, right?

1963. We can discern good and evil.

  1964. A baby, a baby cannot discern.

1965. A baby puts everything in its mouth.

1966. In fact, I would argue they're more likely

1967. to put something bad in their mouth than something good.

  1968. It's like, here's bread, eh, here's a battery.

1969. Oh yeah, let's put that, it's just like, what?

  1970. It's just like, here's a rock, here's trash.

1971. It's like, put that in my mouth immediately.

1972. It's like, here's vegetables, eh, you know?

1973. They can't discern both good and evil.

  1974. They're lacking, and again, that's just

1975. carnal Christians today, it's baby Christians today.

1976. They're over here picking up batteries

1977. and acid and poison and rocks and trying to eat it.

1978. And they're ignoring the vegetables.

1979. They're ignoring the bread, they're ignoring the steak,

1980. they're ignoring the brisket, okay?

  1981. They don't understand.

1982. And it's like, why come to church

  1983. and learn advanced doctrine

1984. so that you're not eating batteries, folks?

1985. So you realize what Bible to use.

1986. You know, they can't discern what's a good Bible

  1987. and what's a bad Bible.

  1988. They listen to heretics.

1989. And look, you don't go to church,

1990. you don't hear the Bible preach,

1991. you don't hear the names being named.

1992. Sometimes you'll just be ignorant of bad preachers.

1993. You think that people that have multiple Gospels,

  1994. they're saved.

1995. You'll be talking to those people.

1996. People that don't read their Bible

1997. and are not soul winning,

1998. they will harken to heretics.

1999. And they'll allow heretics to lead them astray

2000. and believe all kinds of, you have no discernment

2001. if you think some of those multiple Gospels is saved.

2002. You're either a babe or a false teacher at that point.

  2003. Okay?

2004. You know, you can discern who's a good pastor

  2005. and who's a bad pastor.

2006. Unfortunately, a lot of people struggle with that.

2007. Here's the second thing the Bible brought up

2008. is that you'd have the understanding ability to teach.

2009. Remember that chapter five, he says in verse 12,

2010. for when the time you have to be teachers,

2011. you need to learn the Bible and learn this doctrine

2012. so that you can teach everyone around you.

2013. You need to be teaching your friends

2014. and your family members and other Christians

2015. and everybody the same thing.

2016. Hey, don't listen to this guy, he's bad.

2017. Hey, here's what the Bible says on this issue.

2018. Hey, you shouldn't be sleeping with your girlfriend.

  2019. That's fornication.

2020. Hey, you shouldn't go out and commit adultery.

  2021. Hey, divorce is wrong.

2022. You know, it shouldn't just be Pastor Shelley

2023. is gonna teach the whole world.

2024. You should teach the world too.

2025. We should all be teachers.

2026. And the reason why so many Christians

2027. are not teaching the Word of God today

2028. is because they're a baby and they can't teach anything.

2029. But you need to know the Bible,

2030. you need to know the Word of God

2031. and you need to teach the Bible to everyone in this world.

2032. The Bible says to teach all nations.

2033. We need to be going to the highways and hedges

2034. and teaching them how to be saved and how to get baptized.

2035. And we need to be teaching them the doctrine

2036. and which Bible to use

2037. and that a faggot is disgusting, reprobate.

2038. Cause they don't get it.

2039. They don't understand these things

2040. and we wanna keep them away from that stuff.

2041. Just like you warn your kid from putting some metal

  2042. into the electrical socket,

2043. that's like, hey, stay away from the faggot.

  2044. Don't shock yourself, don't hurt yourself.

2045. Don't touch the stove that's hot, right?

2046. They don't know those things.

2047. We have to teach them.

2048. There's so many Christians, they're touching the hot stove.

2049. There's so many Christians today.

2050. They're slamming the door on their fingers.

2051. There's so many Christians today

2052. trying to stick metal into the electrical outlet.

2053. There's Christians that eating batteries and eating rocks.

  2054. And you know what?

2055. We need our whole group to learn the Bible

2056. and have understanding and go to advanced doctrine

2057. so we can teach them the Word of God.

2058. You need to be capable of giving the gospel.

2059. If you've been in this church for more than a year

2060. and you can't give the gospel, you're a dole of hearing.

2061. You need to learn how to give the gospel.

2062. And you need to be, hey, if you're a man,

2063. you should probably learn how to be able to preach sermon.

2064. Hey, you wanna go to the Philippines

  2065. and preach the classes?

2066. You need to learn how to preach to some degree.

2067. Hey, you should be capable of teaching your children.

  2068. And look, you ladies,

2069. you should be teaching your children the Bible.

2070. Not just salvation, all kinds.

2071. There's so much in the Bible

2072. for women to be teaching their children at home.

2073. You should be teaching them everything in the Bible.

  2074. And you know what?

2075. Titus chapter two says the women

2076. should be teaching by their behavior too.

2077. By being a good example.

2078. Here's the last thing that we should do

2079. is we should be laboring for awards and inheritance.

2080. You need to be going to church,

2081. going soul winning and regularly teaching the Bible.

2082. You know, we learn the advanced doctrine

2083. not just so we can be puffed up,

2084. knowledge puffed up, but charity edifier.

  2085. And what is charity?

2086. What's another word for charity?

  2087. Love.

2088. It's our labor of love.

2089. Hey, are you smart so that you can put other people down?

2090. Are you smart so you can brag to other people?

2091. Are you smart so you can act

2092. like you're better than other individuals?

2093. Or are you smart so that you can help

  2094. other people become smart?

2095. Are you learning so that you can use your charity

2096. to edify others, build others up, help others?

2097. Well, if I build them up,

2098. then I won't be standing so tall.

2099. Well, you know what, it's not about you.

2100. Charity doesn't mind building people up

2101. and making other people smart.

2102. You know, I don't want a church full of dummies

2103. so that you feel like you have that Pastor Shelley.

  2104. I don't want to daycare.

  2105. I don't want to babysit.

2106. I want to be around a bunch of strong men that want steak.

2107. And I want us to all enjoy that steak together.

  2108. That's why we're gonna have the men's retreat

2109. around some steak, you know what I mean?

  2110. And guess what?

2111. We're not gonna teach you how to be saved, all right?

2112. But at the end of the day,

2113. it's like, hey, why do you preach

2114. all this crazy radical stuff in the box?

2115. Because it's not about that.

2116. And look, if you get offended by the Word of God,

2117. you had no chance anyways.

  2118. Go be backslidden.

2119. Don't be offended by the Word of God.

  2120. Grow up.

2121. Don't be immature, grow up.

2122. Don't be the baby that, ah, I like steak.

2123. Like, we're all thinking like, wow, what an idiot,

2124. you know, when our kids won't try it.

2125. There's so many meals or so many things,

2126. I'm like, try this and they're like, no.

  2127. I'm like, try it.

2128. And then I'll force them.

2129. And you can kind of like see on the face

  2130. because they're all like...

2131. You get more of that?

2132. Like, you know, they were all resisted,

  2133. like, ah, I don't want this.

2134. But then they eat it and they're just like,

2135. all right, I'll try it again, you know.

2136. You wanna force another bite on me, you know?

2137. We can all be like that.

2138. And so, you know, we want to basically learn the Bible,

2139. grow so we can have things that accumb to salvation.

2140. Not just be saved, but have things

  2141. that accumb to salvation.

  2142. Let's close in prayer.

2143. Thank you, Heavenly Father, so much for these great

2144. deep truths of the Bible.

2145. Thank you so much for the once-for-all sacrifice

2146. that Jesus Christ has given us.

2147. Thank you that it's impossible to lose our salvation.

2148. And not only that you get a save,

2149. but you reward us for our work,

2150. that you never forget anything that we do.

2151. I pray that we be motivated

2152. to not only learn the basics,

2153. to not be a bare minimum Christian,

2154. but to go under perfection, to grow up, to mature,

2155. to learn, and not just to learn to puff ourselves up,

2156. not just to learn to be selfish,

2157. but rather to learn to teach others,

2158. to love others, to do good unto others.

2159. I pray that you would raise up an army of people

2160. that wanna teach the Bible, an army of soul winners,

2161. an army of mothers and fathers

2162. that are teaching their family the Bible.

2163. I pray that you would help us to be

2164. a bright and shining light,

2165. and that the Word of God could thunder forth

  2166. clearly from this church.

2167. In Jesus' name we pray.
