  1. Amen.

  2. As we transition here in chapter 8, we're kind of getting into the topic of a church blessing

  3. another church financially.

  4. That's kind of the subject matter that's being transitioned in.

  5. And the Apostle Paul says here in verse number one, more brethren, we do you to wit of the

  6. grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia how that in a great trial of affliction

  7. the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded on the riches of their liberality.

  8. The word here wit is that they want them to know they want them to understand the grace

  9. of God and they want them to understand that Macedonia it's a near area to where they're

  10. at in Corinth.

  11. It's kind of north, it's the same general area, but it's a different section of Greece.

  12. This is where he is traveled to after having visited them.

  13. So he's gone off into Macedonia, he's going to come back through, and in some sense Macedonia

  14. is almost like the northern portion of his journeys typically, he's taking these big

  15. long journeys and kind of looping back and it's kind of in a sense you know where he's

  16. going the most northern then as he returns is going to come back through Corinth.

  17. And he's trying to say, hey, I want you to understand something about the church

  18. or the churches in Macedonia and how they had a great trial of affliction.

  19. So you know it's not like just one church in the New Testament suffered persecution, it's

  20. pretty much just the theme of all the churches.

  21. All the churches are suffering persecution, affliction, they're going through hardships,

  22. the general consensus is people do not like the church, they do not like the people

  23. of the church, it's not something that flows well with the world, and this should

  24. be expected.

  25. I mean the Bible says, yea, all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer

  26. persecution.

  27. We see the first godly Christian in the Bible, Abel is slaughtered by his brother

  28. Cain.

  29. And so if you're going to be of this world, well you can kind of get along, but if you

  30. are contrary to this world, if you're godly, if you seek the Lord, in many cases

  31. you will be persecuted, you'll be hated, you'll be afflicted, and wherefore

  32. because you're righteous, because your deeds are righteous and because theirs

  33. are evil.

  34. It's just that simple, they can't stand someone being better than them or

  35. being more godly or being more righteous than them, and of course part of

  36. being a Christian is to separate yourself and be more godly and righteous.

  37. So the more separated you are, the more godly, the more righteous, the more

  38. you're going to suffer persecution.

  39. Really if you want to not suffer persecution as a Christian, then you

  40. basically have to not be godly, and you have to not separate yourself.

  41. What would this look like?

  42. It would be the non-the-dom church today, the non-the-dom church doesn't

  43. look really any different than the world, in many cases it doesn't act very

  44. different than the world, and it's not even separated from the world in many

  45. cases, considering the fact that a large percentage of many non-

  46. denominational churches today have people that are not even saved.

  47. And so it's not really going to be an institution, it's not going to be an

  48. area where you see a lot of persecution, a lot of fliction, a lot of angst

  49. against them, because they're trying to just conform to the world and act

  50. like the world.

  51. That's why you see roller coasters inside, that's why you see them

  52. performing literal Hollywood movies for their particular services.

  53. How much more worldly can you get than actually showing a Hollywood

  54. movie for the service?

  55. I mean, I can't really even understand, and it's kind of silly,

  56. like even the movie theaters are struggling and failing, why would

  57. the church think that this is a good business model?

  58. I don't know.

  59. But nevertheless, unfortunately, you have to realize that serving

  60. God and being godly is not always going to be popular.

  61. There's going to be some affliction, there's going to be some

  62. difficulty, and these churches also suffered a great trial of

  63. affliction, but it's like despite their great trial of affliction,

  64. the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded under

  65. the riches of their liberality.

  66. So it's saying that even though they're going through a really

  67. difficult time and a lot of persecution, they were still

  68. very joyful during that particular trial of affliction, and it

  69. knows this as an abundance of their joy.

  70. So they're just so happy, they're just so joyful, they have so

  71. much good fellowship, camaraderie, and it says they have a deep

  72. poverty, meaning that they're not really a rich church, they're

  73. not rich individuals.

  74. So the church doesn't have much money, probably most of the

  75. individuals in the church don't have much money, but notice

  76. by not having much money and having a lot of joy, the Bible

  77. says it abounded under the riches of their liberality.

  78. Now, liberality would be generosity and giving.

  79. So it's kind of funny how this works, because in verse two,

  80. it's saying their deep poverty is causing them to be more

  81. liberal.

  82. Like how does that work?

  83. How can you have not very much money, but you're giving a

  84. lot of money?

  85. I feel like there's a little bit of tension in the text

  86. about this particular subject, and I want to address that

  87. because this would just be my way of possibly addressing this

  88. is perhaps they don't have a lot of money.

  89. So in a sense, they're not spending it on things that

  90. they could, and they're just end up giving it to this poor

  91. saints in Jerusalem.

  92. And we're going to prove that from the text here as a

  93. Bible study, we're going to go through a lot of verses,

  94. but I'm just kind of giving you my idea of this.

  95. I think it could be similarly said, let's say like us,

  96. for example, us as a church, in some categories we could

  97. be considered kind of poor as a church.

  98. If we're comparing ourselves to just big churches and

  99. larger churches in the world, because you look at a church

  100. like Gateway, they're running a $60 million budget,

  101. well they would consider us very poor.

  102. Obviously if you look at us compared to a small church

  103. that's running 50, 60 people, we have a lot more

  104. money than them.

  105. So I don't know exactly what's the right comparison,

  106. but I'm just saying in some context you could say that

  107. our church wouldn't really have like just a ton of

  108. money necessarily.

  109. But if we did, let's just say we had millions of dollars

  110. in the bank, well we might be tempted to just try to use

  111. all that to just buy a nicer building and invest it

  112. and then kind of do all this stuff.

  113. But since we don't have millions in the bank,

  114. we're not really even necessarily tempted with

  115. whatever extra income we have to worry about a

  116. building because we don't even have the down payment.

  117. You know, we don't even have the extra money

  118. or the extra funds.

  119. So it's almost like by not having an expensive building

  120. and not paying, I don't know, 30, $40,000 a month

  121. on a building, then we have that extra money

  122. to then fund maybe more soul winning or other things.

  123. So it's almost like by not having some of the

  124. greatest riches we could possibly have,

  125. or having excess funds in a huge quantity,

  126. then we can use our disposable income

  127. more liberally potentially.

  128. That's just an idea of how this could possibly look

  129. or what this could possibly mean.

  130. There's other ways to look at it,

  131. but I really wanna focus on this word liberal

  132. for a moment because in today's culture

  133. being called liberal is a really negative thing.

  134. When we think of a liberal,

  135. we think of a blue haired feminist

  136. that's supporting Lindsey Clancy.

  137. And so, and of course that's true,

  138. but why are these people called liberals?

  139. What does that mean?

  140. Well, let's go back in the Bible

  141. all the way to Deuteronomy chapter 15

    Deuteronomy 15 chapter mention

  142. and just see what the Bible says about being liberal

  143. because here's the thing.

  144. The word liberal is actually a good word.

  145. And it's a positive word.

  146. So obviously I don't believe in quote bad words,

  147. but there are words that are negative, right?

  148. There's words that have a negative connotation.

  149. There's words that have a positive connotation.

  150. This is kind of a positive word.

  151. But in our modern vernacular, for most conservatives,

  152. we think of a liberal as kind of a negative word,

  153. a derogatory term even potentially,

  154. but it's not because of its etymology

  155. and it's not because of what the Bible says about it

  156. because being a liberal according to the Bible

  157. is a good thing.

  158. And we can't allow the world to hijack

  159. the Bible's definition of words.

  160. But at the same time,

  161. we have to understand that there's gonna be differences.

  162. The Bible being translated in 1611

  163. is a different culture than in 2026.

  164. And so sometimes words,

  165. while having a little bit different understanding

  166. in that culture,

  167. they can be hijacked in a modern culture.

  168. Another word like this would be in the book of James,

  169. chapter two, verse three,

  170. it says someone wearing gay clothing.

  171. Well, the word gay in that particular verse

  172. means something different than if you said,

  173. hey, someone's wearing some gay clothing in 2026.

  174. Now, typically, if you heard that,

  175. you would think of someone as being like

  176. a sodomite reprobate freak, okay?

  177. And maybe being a tranny.

  178. That's what you get in the imagery there.

  179. Whereas in the Bible,

  180. it's trying to say something that's wearing

  181. happy, bright, vibrant clothing, okay?

  182. And then again, the word gay would be happy.

  183. It'd be happy, bright, vibrant, pleasant.

  184. But that's like the opposite

  185. of what a sodomite reprobate is.

  186. So why is that the case?

  187. Well, it's bad people will often take good labels

  188. and use that and label themselves with this

  189. so as to kind of shield who they really are.

  190. Same way that they use the rainbow,

  191. which is a good thing.

  192. I mean, the rainbow is a sign from God.

  193. A rainbow is a positive token from God.

  194. It's supposed to be a blessing to mankind.

  195. And then we see that same community using the rainbow

  196. and trying to trash it and trying to make it

  197. become a derogatory thing, a negative thing.

  198. It's associated with evil, with filth.

  199. Whereas it's a positive thing.

  200. And so it's kind of like an unfortunate fight

  201. that we have to go through in our culture

  202. sometimes over words.

  203. And again, with a liberal, it's the same thing,

  204. that a liberal is a good word,

  205. someone that gives generously,

  206. but then we have the Democrat Party by and large

  207. trying to take that label and call themselves liberals.

  208. And so they're trying to make it seem like they're good.

  209. And of course, why?

  210. Well, in America, you kind of have the two-party system.

  211. You have Democrats, you have Republicans.

  212. Republicans are considered more conservative,

  213. especially fiscally.

  214. And you have Democrats that are considered more liberal.

  215. But in the sense that, from a government perspective,

  216. the government likes to tax us more heavily

  217. and then, quote, create more programs

  218. that they then call themselves liberal with,

  219. but the problem is the government is not very good

  220. at actually running programs.

  221. They steal a lot of the money

  222. that they're supposedly taking from us,

  223. from the taxes, to fund these liberal programs.

  224. And in many cases, these liberal programs

  225. are not even actually helping people

  226. that we should be helping.

  227. They're helping the degenerates

  228. and disgusting people of society.

  229. And so a lot of people say,

  230. oh, the liberals or the Democrats,

  231. they are really generous with other people's money,

  232. but they're not necessarily generous with their own money.

  233. And see, that is the problem with our democratic system,

  234. or I say democratic, I mean the Democrats specifically

  235. in our political system is that they would love

  236. to give everybody money that's not theirs.

  237. And again, they're mostly not even giving money

  238. to the people that they claim they are.

  239. They're lining their own pockets.

  240. They're shuffling it around.

  241. There's a lot of fraud.

  242. There's a lot of deception.

  243. They just want the money to be taxed from us

  244. and then they'll figure out a way to get to it.

  245. But at the end of the day,

  246. a liberal is someone that would, by nature, be generous,

  247. and there's nothing wrong with that.

  248. If someone was to give a lot of money away

  249. or to help people, that's a positive thing, okay?

  250. So in Deuteronomy chapter 15, the giver is 14.

    Deuteronomy 15 chapter mention

  251. Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock

  252. and out of thy floor and out of thy wine press

  253. of that wherewith the Lord thy God hath blessed thee

  254. thou shalt give unto him.

  255. So you know, you have a servant

  256. or you have someone that was working for you

  257. and they're gonna be let free.

  258. The Bible says, hey, you would furnish this guy liberally,

  259. meaning you would be very generous

  260. at whatever you gave to him.

  261. Go to Isaiah 32, go to Isaiah 32.

  262. The Bible says in Proverbs 11 verse 25,

    Proverbs 11:25

  263. the liberal soul shall be made fat

  264. and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

  265. And again, the word fat in our modern vernacular,

  266. we typically think of someone as being obese

  267. or overweight, whereas from a biblical perspective,

  268. fat is talking about a positive sense

  269. of having abundance, of being blessed.

  270. And so it's saying, hey, the liberal soul

  271. is gonna be made fat in the sense that, hey, you give,

  272. God's gonna give a bunch to you

  273. and you're gonna be blessed greatly

  274. and you're gonna be financially taken care of.

  275. That's what it's trying to say.

  276. Isaiah 32, look at verse five,

  277. the vile person shall be no more called liberal

  278. nor the churl said to be bountiful.

  279. Again, this is crazy because of our modern understanding

  280. of words, but again, why would the vile person

  281. no longer be called liberal?

  282. It's because it's saying that liberal's a good thing

  283. as a positive word and society

  284. is no longer gonna be upside down.

  285. And notice, there's no new thing under the sun.

  286. He's saying, hey, even back then, at that time,

  287. the Democrat Party was considered liberal.

  288. But you know what?

  289. It was a false word used for them

  290. because they're not actually really liberal.

  291. And also the churl is not really a bountiful person.

  292. It's just saying like,

  293. these are the labels that people are giving them

  294. but it's saying God's gonna punish them,

  295. God's going to take them to task,

  296. God's gonna judge them and no longer will that label

  297. actually stick to these type of individuals,

  298. he's gonna course correct.

  299. And so of course, that's kind of the context.

  300. It is in verse six.

  301. For the vile person will speak villainy

  302. and his heart will work iniquity to practice hypocrisy

  303. and utter error against the Lord

  304. to make empty the soul of the hungry

  305. and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

  306. Now this is what the Democrat Party

  307. and our liberals of today are actually like

  308. is they speak villainy, meaning they speak evil,

  309. they're saying things that are wrong, harmful,

  310. disgusting, they work iniquity.

  311. Notice this, they practice hypocrisy.

  312. They say they're very generous

  313. but in fact they're not generous at all.

  314. They're very selfish, greedy person

  315. and whatever they're doing is actually harming

  316. the poor person because notice it says

  317. to make empty the soul of the hungry.

  318. So he's gonna have hypocrisy

  319. and he's gonna utter arrogance Lord

  320. to make empty the soul of the hungry.

  321. So all these liberal programs that we have in society

  322. often what they do is they actually harm the poor

  323. and they harm the communities

  324. that they're supposedly trying to help

  325. and they're not actually doing good to them.

  326. You could think of like the Black Lives Matter group

  327. which was supposed to like quote help black people

  328. but all it did is it caused other blacks

  329. to give money to this particular program

  330. and the particular leaders of this

  331. was like three lesbians or something

  332. or like two lesbians and another chick or something.

  333. It was like, it was basically two,

  334. it was like three ladies, a couple of them were lesbians

  335. and essentially they were just buying themselves mansions.

  336. They're going out there and they're just,

  337. they're getting hit pieces written for them by the media

  338. and then they'll set up GoFundMe's

  339. to just have everybody in their community give money

  340. when George Floyd dies of an overdose from drugs

  341. or something and then they basically just line the pockets

  342. of these other, these black lesbians

  343. which again what is being black

  344. and being a lesbian have anything to do with each other?

  345. They don't, they're not even congruent whatsoever

  346. and so they're just lining their pockets

  347. and all we did is we just made black people more poor,

  348. we took more money away from them

  349. just to line the pockets of the vile person,

  350. of the actual reprobate and it's just like

  351. that's exactly what the Bible is saying was happening

  352. in the book of Isaiah in Jerusalem

  353. where you had the vile people just lining their pockets

  354. while taking advantage of the poor suckers.

  355. All the people that think that, oh man,

  356. I'm helping the cause, I'm helping black people

  357. but in fact they're doing nothing to help them

  358. and in fact they're kind of just stigmatizing

  359. the entire black community if that was even a thing,

  360. even more and making people despise them even more

  361. and dislike them even more, it's not helping them,

  362. it's not gonna help them get jobs,

  363. you know they're destroying businesses

  364. and of course they're destroying businesses

  365. in their own neighborhoods which then by and large

  366. creates food deserts in their own areas

  367. and causes companies to get out of there,

  368. it causes companies to raise prices in their areas

  369. because it's just so expensive to be in an area

  370. where there's high crime and theft

  371. and it's just hurting them even more and more and more

  372. and it's just showing the hypocrisy of this vile person

  373. who gets the label liberal but they're not liberal at all.

  374. It's a lie.

  375. Says the instruments also of the churl are evil,

  376. he devises wicked devices to destroy the poor

  377. with lying words even when the needy speaketh right.

  378. It's just saying look, I mean these people

  379. they're just destroying the poor, they're harming the poor,

  380. they're lying to the poor, they don't care

  381. about these people, they create instruments

  382. to destroy them called payday loans

  383. or some kind of a payday cash loan system

  384. or planned parenthood where they're just literally

  385. targeting black areas to put planned parenthoods

  386. to cause them to have more abortions

  387. to just try and destroy and weed out

  388. these people from society which again Margaret Singer

  389. and other eugenicists, their goal was to eradicate

  390. black people from America, that's why they have birth control,

  391. that's why they have organizations like Planned Parenthood,

  392. I'm sorry Planned Parenthood

  393. and they basically just wanted to destroy

  394. whole groups of people and they do it with lying words.

  395. Yep, they're considered liberal

  396. and isn't it funny the same people doing this to them,

  397. you can't even get these black people to not vote for them.

  398. Isn't that crazy?

  399. It's crazy how people just fall for lies

  400. and they basically vote in their own destruction.

  401. There's so many people that are just voting for

  402. and asking for their own destruction,

  403. they trust in oppression, they think like

  404. I need more handouts, not realizing the handouts

  405. is what's destroying them.

  406. Not realizing that the people that are giving them

  407. the quote handouts don't actually care about them,

  408. don't actually love them, would never give them

  409. a dollar out of their own wallet,

  410. but rather just want to continue to tax other people

  411. and give away their money for free

  412. while they're lining their own pockets.

  413. And it says verse eight,

  414. but the liberal devises liberal things

  415. and by liberal things shall he stand.

  416. So he's contrasting in verse five

  417. a vile person that gets the label liberal versus

  418. verse eight an actual liberal.

  419. An actual liberal is someone who devises liberal things

  420. meaning what he creates actually gives people money

  421. and actually blesses people,

  422. whereas the churlish person is creating instruments

  423. that destroy the poor with lying words.

  424. So he's doing the exact opposite

  425. even though claiming the title.

  426. So an actual generous person is trying to help poor people

  427. and give back to the poor people

  428. and do good on the poor people

  429. and then notice it says by liberal things shall he stand.

  430. So God's the one looking down from heaven.

  431. He'll notice who's actually liberal,

  432. who's actually generous and he'll take care of that person

  433. and that person will continue to be standing upright

  434. and doing his thing.

  435. Whereas the guy who is actually destroying

  436. and taking advantage and ripping people off,

  437. he'll get destroyed, he'll be taken down a notch.

  438. And so we wanna make sure that we don't think like

  439. well, why don't we just do what they're doing

  440. and rip people off too?

  441. Why don't we just take advantage of the poor as well?

  442. Why don't we create our own system

  443. of high interest loans

  444. and why don't we create our own

  445. used car salesman schemes

  446. and why don't we create these credit card schemes

  447. and all this stuff

  448. and why don't we just take advantage

  449. of these poor derelicts ourselves?

  450. And it's just like, well, because God's gonna punish you

  451. and judge you for that.

  452. And the person that's actually generous,

  453. God's gonna make sure he continues to be generous

  454. because you know what?

  455. God wants to fund the generous person

  456. so that he can keep helping the poor person

  457. and God cares about the poor people.

  458. Go to 1 Corinthians 16,

  459. go to 1 Corinthians 16.

  460. It reminds me of being at Wells Fargo

  461. just because they were like the most evil institution

  462. that I was aware of at the time.

  463. And just how much there's ripping off poor people

  464. with overdraft fees.

  465. And please don't constantly get feed to death by a bank.

  466. If you're a young person,

  467. make sure you're not taking more money

  468. out of your bank account than you have

  469. because the bank will charge you $35, $40, $50

  470. every time you go over.

  471. In fact, Wells Fargo specifically has a policy

  472. where they try to reverse engineer your transactions

  473. just to charge you more fees on purpose.

  474. Okay, so it's like, you have,

  475. because they'll say like,

  476. oh, we have all these transactions

  477. pending over the weekend.

  478. And so instead of us actually going through

  479. and identifying them from a chronological order,

  480. we're gonna go ahead and take the largest items

  481. and pay them first and we'll just change the order

  482. and just kind of change how it worked.

  483. Well, this can really screw some people up.

  484. I would see it.

  485. Somebody would, over the weekend,

  486. they would go out and they would just get like a dollar

  487. Coke and they would get like $2 this

  488. and they would just go to the movie theater for seven bucks

  489. and then they just have like 10 transactions

  490. that are all like less than 10 bucks.

  491. And their mortgage is gonna hit on Monday

  492. and they didn't realize that they went over by like 50 bucks.

  493. So they went over by 50 bucks.

  494. So it would have been just one overdraft fee

  495. for when their mortgage hit on Monday.

  496. But they'll say, no, no, we wanna make sure

  497. that your mortgage gets paid.

  498. So what we did is we took the mortgage

  499. and we put it first and then the next largest

  500. and the next largest.

  501. So then because you went over by 50 bucks

  502. and you had 10 transactions, it'd be like $2 Coke

  503. is now a $50 Coke.

  504. And your $1 Coke, now it's a $51 Coke.

  505. And they would just sit there and hammer it.

  506. So someone would come in and they'd say,

  507. hey, I'll pay the $35 for going overdraft

  508. but I don't have $600 because of what you just did to me.

  509. I don't have $300 because of what you just did to me.

  510. And it was just, it was just nasty.

  511. It was nasty, it was evil.

  512. And of course it wasn't like,

  513. oh well, we wanna make sure your mortgage gets paid.

  514. They were gonna pay it no matter what, okay?

  515. The bank wasn't really worried about it.

  516. They were just figuring out a way

  517. to chew you even harder.

  518. And it was gross and it was disgusting

  519. what they were doing to people,

  520. preying on people, taking advantage of people.

  521. And of course our manager would never be in the store

  522. on purpose just so she would never have to do

  523. a reversal on the overdraft fees.

  524. And we ended up finding out that the managers,

  525. for Wells Fargo, they got bonuses paid out

  526. specifically on the percentage of the overdraft fees

  527. they collect at their branch.

  528. So of course they don't wanna be there

  529. and they don't wanna reverse them

  530. because that's how they get paid out.

  531. They had to have like 92.5% collection

  532. on all the fees recorded in the system

  533. in order to get a bonus.

  534. And it was like, we hit like 91% or something.

  535. I know, we hit 91%.

  536. So our manager and like our district managers,

  537. like all the managers are showing up

  538. and they're just like really mad

  539. that we only got 91% of our overdraft fees.

  540. It's like, good night, how evil is this institution?

  541. But I'm telling you something,

  542. you know the bank is not a liberal.

  543. The bank will come after you

  544. and the bank is not there to be your friend.

  545. And hey, you know, you should have a big buffer

  546. in your checking account, your savings account

  547. and stuff like that.

  548. So you make sure you never go on the overdraft

  549. because they will take all of your money.

  550. And I just remember talking to one of my managers

  551. about it when someone was getting like ripped off

  552. in the tens of thousands.

  553. They had had over $10,000 in overdraft fees

  554. in a particular year.

  555. And I was saying like, hey, we need to help this person.

  556. And they were like, hey, if you call this person,

  557. I'm gonna fire you.

  558. And I said, they said, because if you call them,

  559. they're gonna be mad at us

  560. and they're gonna want us to reverse some of these fees.

  561. And then we're gonna not hit our bonuses,

  562. you know, we're gonna have all these consequences

  563. or whatever.

  564. And I was just, I was like thinking like,

  565. yeah, but this is just evil, we're doing this person,

  566. like we're just taking all their money,

  567. it doesn't make any sense.

  568. And she's like, well, you know what?

  569. It's their fault for being stupid

  570. and just not paying attention or whatever.

  571. And it's like that, that's the justification of these people.

  572. It's just like, oh, well, they're poor because they're stupid.

  573. Oh, they don't have money because they're dumb

  574. and they're foolish and they're making bad decisions.

  575. So then they just take advantage of them.

  576. And you know what?

  577. That's the wrong attitude.

  578. It's a wicked attitude.

  579. It's an evil attitude.

  580. And you don't just take advantage of someone

  581. just because they're stupid or because they're poor

  582. or because they are in a bad situation.

  583. But of course, that's what the rich do

  584. is they love to just take advantage of the poor

  585. and the weak and the widow and anybody they can

  586. and they just rip them off, reverse mortgages.

  587. Evil as hell, I'm just telling you.

  588. It's just anything they can do

  589. to just get their hands on money.

  590. And it's just gross the system that's been created.

  591. Instruments created to oppress the poor and destroy them.

  592. And so, you know, we as Christians

  593. need to be the opposite.

  594. We need to be liberal.

  595. We need to be creating devices and instruments

  596. that bless people.

  597. And you know, from a church perspective,

  598. you know, we believe that we're an independent

  599. fundamental Baptist church.

  600. We answer as a church to no other earthly institution.

  601. You know, our hierarchy in a sense

  602. goes straight to the Bible and to Jesus in a sense.

  603. So like our church is answered to the Bible

  604. and answers to the Lord Jesus Christ.

  605. There's not a human body or some earthly body.

  606. There's not the Southern Baptist Convention

  607. that can come and take us to task.

  608. There's not some episcopacy.

  609. There's not some ecumenical council.

  610. There's not some group.

  611. There's not some bishop.

  612. There's not some pope.

  613. There's not anybody that can exercise authority over us.

  614. We are an autonomous church.

  615. We're independent in that sense.

  616. But does that mean that we should have

  617. an independent mindset that if another church

  618. is in need or they have some kind of a burden

  619. that we shouldn't consider them

  620. and wanna bless them?

  621. No, we shouldn't be like that.

  622. Hey, we're independent from an autonomous perspective.

  623. We're independent from a polity,

  624. from a governing perspective.

  625. But at the end of the day,

  626. we're still a part of Christianity

  627. and we should just love other churches too.

  628. And we shouldn't just be so independent

  629. that we don't care about other churches

  630. or we're not paying attention to other churches.

  631. We should still love other churches.

  632. And here in 1 Corinthians chapter 16,

    1 Corinthians 16 chapter mention

  633. look at verse one.

  634. Now concerning the collection for the saints,

  635. as I have given order to the churches of Galatia,

  636. even so do ye.

  637. Think about what Paul's saying.

  638. He's saying, look, I'm gonna get some money.

  639. I'm gonna, we're gonna collect money for other Christians.

  640. And notice I told all the churches in Galatia

  641. that they're gonna do it too.

  642. So it's like all the churches of Galatia are raising money.

  643. The church is in Corinth raising money

  644. and we learn from 2 Corinthians

  645. that the churches in Macedonia are collecting money.

  646. For who?

  647. Well, we'll keep reading.

  648. He says, upon the first day of the week,

  649. let every one of you lay by him in store

  650. as God has prospered him.

  651. There will be no gatherings when I come

  652. and when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve

  653. by your letters, them will I send

  654. to bring your liberality onto Jerusalem."

  655. So the whole point is like Jerusalem

  656. for some reason is having like severe poverty.

  657. There is a part of Acts where there's a testimony

  658. of there's gonna be a dearth in that portion of the world.

  659. I don't know if the timeline is exactly right there

  660. or not if it's related to the dearth,

  661. but there's some poverty that's afflicting

  662. this group of people.

  663. And so the apostle Paul on his journey

  664. is collecting money from all these different areas

  665. and they're gonna come and bring this as a gift,

  666. as a blessing unto the saints at Jerusalem.

  667. And so they're collecting and raising money.

  668. Now, some people would falsely understand this

  669. and they would say like,

  670. oh, see there's no tithing in the Bible,

  671. in the New Testament, you just give money if you want to.

  672. That's not the context of this.

  673. This isn't the tithe,

  674. this isn't money for their church even.

  675. This is money for a completely different group.

  676. So this has nothing to do with the tithe.

  677. The tithe is the Lord's number one

  678. and tithing goes to your church.

  679. And if we have this attitude of we don't give money to church,

  680. we don't tithe, we just randomly collect money

  681. for other churches every once in a while,

  682. well then how the heck are we gonna

  683. actually have a church?

  684. How are we gonna actually function?

  685. Like that would be silly to just take this passage

  686. and then use it as a proof text

  687. that tithing doesn't exist in the New Testament.

  688. It's just a different subject.

  689. It'd be silly because it's not what's being brought up.

  690. This is not, they're like,

  691. oh, well we just collect money every once in a while,

  692. you know, just because.

  693. It's like that's not what this is talking about.

  694. This is specifically a gift to a specific church

  695. that's separate from what the tithe would be

  696. or what their church is doing.

  697. That is the context.

  698. It says in verse four,

  699. and if we meet that I go also,

  700. they should go with me now,

  701. I will come under you when I shall pass through Macedonia

  702. for I do pass through Macedonia

  703. and it may be that I will abide, yay,

  704. and winter with you that you may bring me

  705. on my journey where the story goes.

  706. So he's kind of bringing up,

  707. hey, I'm going through Macedonia,

  708. then I'm gonna come see you.

  709. Same thing he's bringing up in 2 Corinthians, okay?

  710. So again, what's the liberality

  711. that's mentioned in verse three?

  712. That's their generosity, their generous giving,

  713. and who is it targeted for,

  714. the saints at Jerusalem, another church.

  715. So is it wrong for a church,

  716. is it wrong for our church to give money to another church?

  717. No, not at all.

  718. That would actually be biblical.

  719. Now, do we have to?

  720. No, there's not an obligation

  721. and he's gonna tell us in 2 Corinthians,

  722. go back to 2 Corinthians if you haven't gone over there,

  723. but he's gonna tell us that this isn't a commandment,

  724. this is being liberal, being generous.

  725. Being generous is not a commandment,

  726. it's a free will decision.

  727. In the Old Testament you had

  728. what's called a free will offering.

  729. A free will offering is that of which

  730. you don't have to give.

  731. You're giving it of your own voluntary free will,

  732. you just wanna give something to the Lord

  733. and so you would just bring some kind of an offering.

  734. So in the Old Testament you had the tithe

  735. and then you had free will offerings, okay?

  736. That's the same concept we have here in the New Testament.

  737. You have the New Testament tithe

  738. and then you'd have what was considered

  739. a free will offering.

  740. And what would be a free will offering?

  741. Well, of course this could be given to your church,

  742. it could be given to a different church

  743. and then I would say in a similar way

  744. it's kind of like almsgiving just to the poor in general.

  745. Whoever you seem to know or like

  746. or you wanna help out, you wanna bless somebody

  747. and you just decide to give them some money,

  748. that is a free will offering.

  749. You don't have to do it.

  750. We see a free will offering given

  751. by Ananias and Sapphira in the book of Acts

  752. and they die not because they had to give that money

  753. but rather because they lied into the Holy Ghost about it.

  754. So one of the principles that we should learn

  755. from free will offerings is number one,

  756. you don't have to do it.

  757. And number two, if you do do it, don't lie about it, right?

  758. Because it's not about the praise of men

  759. and that's why the Bible tells us in Matthew

  760. and Jesus emphasizes like whenever you're doing

  761. your almsgiving, let not your left hand know

  762. what your right hand's doing

  763. and that it should be kind of done in secret.

  764. And again, I'm not saying it has to be like

  765. you're a ninja and you sneak into someone's house

  766. and lay money down on their counter

  767. or something like that.

  768. I don't think that we have to be over the top.

  769. Isn't the spirit that you're not blowing a trumpet

  770. and letting everybody know?

  771. And isn't it that like at the church,

  772. not everybody knows, I mean,

  773. Ananias and Sapphira, everybody knows their money

  774. but if you were doing what was right,

  775. not everybody would know that you're giving the money.

  776. So again, there's nothing wrong

  777. with giving money to a church.

  778. There's nothing wrong with even technically being public

  779. but if it's gonna be public, you better not lie about it.

  780. And then in general, you should probably be,

  781. if you're giving almsgiving, it should be done in secret.

  782. You shouldn't be trying to do it for the praise of men

  783. or seeking the praise of men.

  784. That would be the wrong attitude.

  785. It's similar to the Old Testament,

  786. free will offerings, not something that's the tide.

  787. You know, I hear this lie often

  788. where they'll say, oh, well,

  789. tithing's done away in the New Testament

  790. because in the Old Testament it was 23.5%.

  791. Who's heard this kind of weird crazy,

  792. okay, no one, all right, me.

  793. It's like, they'll be like, well, technically,

  794. if you did all the tithing in the Old Testament,

  795. it's like 23.5%.

  796. The word tithe means 10th.

  797. It's kind of weird that they come up with this idea

  798. of 23.5% or something like that.

  799. That's just some derived Jewish understanding.

  800. I'm sure the Jews think the tithe is 23.5%, not 10.

  801. I'm sure a Jew came up with that.

  802. But let me explain it.

  803. The tithe is 10 because that's what it means, right?

  804. The free will offering would just be over in abundance,

  805. whatever you feel that you can deliver.

  806. And of course, that is kind of the context.

  807. Now, in verse three, he says,

  808. for to their power I bear record,

  809. yea, and beyond their power they were willing

  810. of themselves praying with us,

  811. or praying us with much entreaty

  812. that we would receive the gift

  813. and take upon us the fellowship

  814. of the ministering to the saints.

  815. Now, he's saying, look, I'm gonna testify, excuse me,

  816. of their power, meaning their ability to give.

  817. And it says, and beyond their power,

  818. they were willing of themselves.

  819. So he's kind of like almost saying like,

  820. whatever they had to give,

  821. they kind of seem to give more

  822. than what it even seemed like they had to give.

  823. Like that's how generous these people were.

  824. And of course, you kind of see in verse two

  825. the riches of their liberality.

  826. There's an example of this.

  827. What about the woman who gives her two mites?

  828. Now, when Jesus Christ is commenting on this,

  829. he said that she had given all of her living.

  830. So that seems to be more than what she should be giving

  831. or what is reasonable,

  832. but it's just like the riches of her liberality.

  833. That she just loved the Lord so much

  834. that she literally cast in all of her living

  835. in that particular moment.

  836. Now, you know, I don't know her situation.

  837. I don't know what's really going on.

  838. I don't think that she's putting herself

  839. in a financial burden to necessarily do that,

  840. but it could just be that, hey,

  841. she just had, this is all the money she has

  842. and she's just decided to give it to the Lord.

  843. But I don't think that she's like maxing out

  844. her credit cards or doing something financially foolish

  845. to bless the Lord.

  846. It's that she has this money

  847. and she's just giving it to the Lord

  848. and the Lord's gonna take care of her.

  849. Maybe she's living with someone,

  850. her son or a brother-in-law or whoever

  851. and they're taking care of her needs.

  852. She has a little bit of money

  853. instead of spending on herself.

  854. She's like, I'm just gonna give it.

  855. And she's like, hey, this is all she had

  856. and she gave it to the Lord.

  857. Because in this chapter, it's gonna make it clear

  858. that you shouldn't be giving money

  859. that you don't have to give.

  860. But there's kind of like abundance

  861. and then there's kind of like,

  862. maybe a reasonable portion

  863. and it's like they're giving even just more

  864. than just their abundance.

  865. It's like they're even tapping into maybe

  866. their own personal funds

  867. of what they would like to buy

  868. for themselves selfishly or something.

  869. They're just like, hey, I'm just gonna give this

  870. to the saints at Jerusalem.

  871. It says that they wanted to be a partaker

  872. or a fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

  873. They don't wanna be left out.

  874. It's like, hey, we're taking a collection for Jerusalem

  875. and they're like, well, we wanna be a part of that.

  876. We don't wanna be taking,

  877. we don't wanna be missing out on this opportunity

  878. to bless them and to help them in their time of need.

  879. And so they want to be a partaker

  880. in a fellowship and notice that they wanted

  881. the apostle Paul and his companions to receive the gift.

  882. So they're like, hey, we're giving this money

  883. and isn't there, there could have been, we don't know,

  884. but based on the language here,

  885. there could have been a little bit of a standoff.

  886. Like, hey, we want you to take this

  887. and he's like, well, I don't know

  888. because you guys are so poor

  889. and they're like, no, we insist, take it, okay?

  890. And there's a lot of aspects to giving and receiving.

  891. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong

  892. with an initial refusal potentially,

  893. but if someone's insisting,

  894. I believe you're supposed to take it, okay?

  895. That would be the right thing to do.

  896. You don't wanna refuse receiving a gift from somebody

  897. that's trying to do the right thing that's trying to bless.

  898. So you could kinda see there's sometimes

  899. that little bit of standoff,

  900. but then you just go ahead

  901. and basically receive the gift

  902. or you go along with what is being offered.

  903. Someone's like, hey, let me get that

  904. and you're like, no, I'm fine.

  905. And then they're just like, okay, move on

  906. and it's like, move on.

  907. But they're like, no, no, I insist.

  908. It's like, it'd be rude to not receive that or to take it.

  909. I'm not saying you have to initially refuse.

  910. They could be like, you want this?

  911. You're like, yeah, like, let's go.

  912. And that's a good attitude.

  913. It's a good attitude to receive gifts.

  914. Don't be someone that's so prideful

  915. that you can't receive a gift.

  916. And if someone's insisting, you know, take a gift.

  917. You know, I would only refuse a gift

  918. if it's just like, you know,

  919. it really is not something that I should receive

  920. or just it doesn't make sense.

  921. There's not appropriate or something.

  922. But if it's something that can be received,

  923. you should do your best to try and receive it.

  924. Be thankful for it.

  925. And hey, this church is wanting

  926. to bless the saints of Jerusalem.

  927. Hey, I don't know if you guys should.

  928. It's like, we insist it's all right.

  929. We're gonna receive that gift

  930. and you're gonna get to partake

  931. and be a part of the fellowship of the ministering

  932. to the saints.

  933. He says here in verse number five,

  934. and this they did not as we hoped,

  935. but first gave their own selves of the Lord

  936. and then the us by the will of God.

  937. So he's saying, you know, they're doing this

  938. not because we were wanting this to happen,

  939. but they just love God so much.

  940. And, you know, they wanted to do

  941. whatever the will of God is in verse six

  942. and so much that we desired Titus

  943. that as he had begun,

  944. so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

  945. So just as these guys blessed us,

  946. we were also desiring and hoping that Titus

  947. would be able to come back to your church

  948. and take the same collection.

  949. So just like these guys were so happy

  950. to bless the saints of Jerusalem,

  951. we wanna send Titus so that you guys can also bless them.

  952. Verse seven,

  953. therefore as you abound in everything

  954. in faith and utterance and knowledge

  955. and in all diligence and your love also to us,

  956. see that you abound in this grace also.

  957. I do wanna mention that in times past

  958. in reading this chapter,

  959. the language is kind of dense

  960. and you know, I struggled to understand this chapter.

  961. So in times past, I kind of misunderstood

  962. what the language is saying here.

  963. I kind of thought that it was saying like

  964. they were sending Titus to like preach for them

  965. and then they're like sending money

  966. as like a trade-off,

  967. but that's just not really what's in view.

  968. That wasn't really the right way to look at it.

  969. Titus is simply the person responsible

  970. for collecting the money physically

  971. and taking it to Jerusalem.

  972. And here what the apostle Paul is trying to do

  973. is he's trying to get this collection from everybody.

  974. Now it makes sense why they would want

  975. to do this kind of stuff.

  976. Obviously when you talk about money,

  977. everybody gets squeamish and uncomfortable.

  978. But for the apostle Paul,

  979. he cares about the work of the Lord thriving

  980. and doing well and he understands

  981. that Jerusalem is in need.

  982. So instead of just like one church blessing them,

  983. he wants all the churches to bless them

  984. so that they'll then get the max reward,

  985. the max benefit of the blessing from all of these saints.

  986. And then the work of the Lord is gonna thrive

  987. and it's not gonna be diminished

  988. or it's not going to be hampered by his refusal

  989. to collect money from everybody

  990. or to let as many people participate as possible.

  991. And there could be a temptation, people are weird.

  992. There could be a temptation for someone to say like,

  993. I wanna be the only person helping them financially

  994. so that I get all the credit or I get all the glory

  995. and or someone could decide not to wanna offer

  996. this opportunity to people for the reason of like,

  997. oh, why do you want to get money from everybody?

  998. There's all these different agendas

  999. and things that people will put on you about money.

1000. But Apostle Paul's trying to make it clear like,

1001. hey, I love the saints of Jerusalem.

1002. It's more blessed to give than to receive.

1003. This is a good opportunity.

1004. We want all the churches that are willing

1005. to participate in this, to participate in this.

1006. Titus is a good guy and we're collecting money

1007. and give it to him.

1008. You can also see why in this greater epistle,

1009. there's a lot of accusations against Paul.

  1010. Why?

1011. Because there's probably people saying like,

1012. oh, they're collecting money for themselves

1013. or hey, I don't know if they're digging into that money.

1014. Anytime money's involved, accusations, slander,

  1015. railing, people getting upset.

1016. Of course, people that aren't working hard,

1017. people that are reprobate, whatever.

1018. They'll come up with all kinds of excuses about money.

1019. They get all offended about money.

1020. They don't want anybody to have money but themselves.

  1021. Think about Judas.

1022. Judas is the one who's always getting upset about money.

  1023. But why?

1024. Because he was a thief and he's taking what's in the back.

1025. He was really mad about money being spent on Jesus.

1026. Just this oil and this ointment being put on Jesus.

1027. He got so mad about it that he betrayed him

  1028. to the Pharisees.

1029. That's how mad he got.

1030. He got so mad about it that he allowed the devil

1031. to enter him and to become demonically possessed

1032. to then betray the Lord Jesus Christ,

1033. betray the innocent blood for 30 shekels of silver.

1034. That's how mad he got about it.

1035. And so when someone's getting really mad about money,

1036. especially that's being used for churches

1037. and for the things of God,

1038. that's a big red flag for that person.

1039. They wanna be like, oh, these people are bad.

  1040. It's like they're projecting in a sense.

1041. And it's like, oh, why was this money wasted?

1042. It could have been given to the poor.

1043. Oh, Judas sounds like a liberal.

  1044. But he wasn't a liberal.

1045. He was someone that hated the poor people

1046. and was ripping off the poor people.

1047. And he was a thief.

1048. And you notice again, a holier than thou attitude

  1049. in many cases.

1050. And it's like the person that's just constantly

1051. making a big deal about money

1052. and just always like obsessed with money.

1053. You know, it's kind of a red flag.

1054. And then you kind of wonder, it's like, okay,

1055. let's talk about some modern day applications

1056. for some of these things, right?

1057. There was one person that I could point to

1058. that said, this guy is talking about money the most.

1059. Like, here's a guy where if you go on every single

1060. one of his posts for his sermons,

1061. the first thing listed is donate to our church.

1062. And it's the only guy constantly raising money

1063. and talking about money and making a big deal about money.

1064. And it's just like, who is it?

1065. Oh yes, it was Roger Jimenez.

1066. And it wasn't like, it's not like what I'm saying,

  1067. it's just my opinion.

1068. This is something that a lot of people noticed.

1069. It was like, there's this one person

1070. that's just always about raising money

1071. and trying to talk about money

1072. and getting all these collections at whatever.

1073. And then we find out, oh, why was that happening?

1074. Because he's taking half of the money that's being raised.

1075. And that's after he's getting called on the carpet.

1076. At first he was taking all of it.

1077. Then it was just like half until basically it was exposed.

1078. And then it's like, okay, well,

1079. let's stop letting this guy be the money,

1080. the guy holding the bag, okay?

1081. Now again, I'm not saying that Roger Jimenez is Judas, okay?

  1082. Don't hear me wrong.

  1083. I think he's saved and whatever.

1084. But anybody can get a bad attitude, a bad spirit.

1085. And we wanna be careful about the person

1086. that's just all obsessed about money and things like that.

1087. But at the same time, there's nothing wrong

1088. with raising money for other Christians.

1089. And so that's why they love this vehicle

1090. because they wanna be like, hey, let's raise money.

1091. But the apostle Paul, if you think about it,

1092. he's like, I'm not collecting the money,

1093. I'm getting Titus to do it.

  1094. Yeah.

1095. And in a modern day, if we're raising money for people,

1096. it makes sense that it's like,

1097. why do I have to be a quote clearing house

1098. for other people or other churches?

1099. I don't necessarily need to be that.

1100. Maybe we just let it go straight to Titus

1101. or we go straight to that particular person.

1102. And so let's be honest about our situation

1103. with Pastor Stuckey, we're not a clearing house for him

1104. and we don't wanna be.

1105. No verity about his church was acting

1106. like a clearing house for them.

1107. And that just gave temptation for them

1108. to take money that they probably shouldn't have.

1109. Well, let's just be honest.

1110. They shouldn't have taken it, okay.

1111. And in reality, it's like, hey,

1112. we wanna help out that church,

1113. but we don't wanna be the clearing house for them.

1114. It's like, give money directly to them.

  1115. Go to soulwinningbaptistchurch.com,

1116. give money directly to Pastor Stuckey

  1117. and to that ministry.

1118. If you wanna bless them and support them,

1119. and you know, we too wanna bless them and support them.

1120. You know, and I don't wanna be like,

1121. hey, we are the only church

1122. that can bless them or support them.

1123. I hope every church blesses them and supports them, right?

1124. You know, we had like a Baptist by show,

1125. we were trying to like encourage other people

1126. and other churches to bless that particular work

1127. because we just don't want that work to be diminished.

1128. And let's just be honest, of new IV churches,

1129. that church is probably one of the more poor churches

1130. in the world because it's in the Philippines.

1131. In the Philippines they don't have the same amount

1132. of money to be able to bless their church with,

  1133. to raise.

1134. I mean, they have a sizable church,

1135. but it's just again, the people in that country

1136. are poor in comparison to Americans.

1137. And so it's like, hey, we're trying to raise money

1138. because we don't want the work

1139. to be diminished in the Philippines.

1140. And we wanna help that particular work in the Philippines.

1141. And you know, we're gonna kind of get into

1142. this next subject, but it kind of relates

1143. to the same topic is, hey, if we promise to help them,

1144. we wanna make sure to deliver on that promise.

1145. And that's what the church at Corinth did.

1146. The church at Corinth is saying like, hey,

1147. we wanna help the saints at Jerusalem.

1148. And he's like, okay, well then y'all go ahead

1149. and collect all that money.

  1150. That's what he's saying in 1 Corinthians,

    1 Corinthians 16 chapter mention

1151. chapter 16 that we read.

1152. Go ahead and get it all collected and get it all ready

1153. so that then when we come back through

1154. or Titus comes through there,

1155. he can gather that, he can get that money

1156. and take it to them.

1157. Okay, so it's like they're getting prepared

1158. for what they claim they were going to do.

1159. Like it's one thing to say, I wanna help you,

  1160. I will help you.

1161. And there's another thing to actually do it.

1162. And we probably all know that person

1163. that said like, I'll help you financially

1164. or I'll give you this money.

1165. And then when you actually ask for it,

  1166. it's not there anymore.

1167. Or they're not actually gonna step up the plate

1168. or they're not gonna actually deliver.

1169. Or you work for a boss.

1170. It's really annoying when you work for a boss.

1171. He's like, hey, in two years you're gonna get a promotion.

1172. It's like four years later,

  1173. you're like, where's that promotion?

1174. You know, it's just kind of like,

1175. we don't wanna be that kind of person

1176. where we promise the moon and we can't deliver.

1177. He says in verse eight,

1178. I speak not by commandment,

1179. but by occasion of the forwardness of others

1180. and to prove the sincerity of love.

1181. So he's saying, I'm not getting money from you guys

  1182. as a commandment.

1183. There is no commandment for you to give money

1184. to the saints at Jerusalem.

1185. But why am I doing it?

1186. Because of the forwardness of others.

1187. Because of what the Macedonians were like.

1188. The Macedonians were so excited to give money

1189. and they kind of like inspired me

1190. to provoke other people to do likewise.

1191. And then secondly, to prove the sincerity of your love.

  1192. Why?

1193. Because they're saying like, hey, we wanna do this.

1194. It's like, all right, put your money where your mouth is then.

1195. Go ahead and prove the fact that you did wanna help them

1196. that you were willing to step up to the plate

  1197. and actually do it.

1198. He says in verse nine,

1199. for you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,

1200. that though he was rich, yet for your sakes,

1201. he became poor, that you might,

1202. through his poverty, might be rich.

1203. And here, and I give my advice,

1204. for this is expedient for you,

1205. who have begun before, not only to do,

1206. but also to be forward a year ago.

1207. So he's using Christ as an example,

1208. like Christ has all these riches in heaven

1209. and then comes down to earth as a humble servant,

  1210. dies on the cross,

1211. to then give us the riches of becoming co-inheritors

  1212. with him, joint heirs,

1213. and that we're gonna inherit and rule and reign

1214. on the new earth with the Lord Jesus Christ.

1215. And so he had to become poorer

1216. so that we could become rich.

1217. And he's just saying by that example,

1218. like we should have Christ's attitude and Christ's mindset

1219. that sometimes we have to spend

1220. and be spent for others to have riches.

1221. So think about it this way,

1222. going on a foreign mission trip

1223. might cost you a lot of money

1224. and you're gonna go somewhere though

1225. and you're gonna give someone an eternal gift,

1226. you're gonna get them rich spiritually

  1227. by getting them saved.

1228. And so by you being poorer,

1229. and I'm not saying you're literally poorer,

1230. but you're just basically taking some of your money

1231. and you're spending it on mission strips,

1232. you can give riches to other people

1233. and get them saved and the eternal gift of salvation

1234. and it's a blessing to these other individuals.

1235. I mean, if we just all said,

1236. you know what, we're not gonna do that,

1237. we're gonna just take all of our money for missions

1238. and we're just gonna invest in the stock market

1239. and we're just gonna keep compiling it.

1240. I mean, we could have a lot of money over time.

1241. I mean, a lot of people are doing a lot of mission strips

1242. and we're spending a lot of money on mission strips.

  1243. I mean, we're talking hundreds,

1244. probably hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.

1245. If we take all the money we're spending as a collective

1246. plus the church is spending as a collective,

1247. we could be doing other stuff with that.

1248. We could be building this great cathedral

1249. with naked babies painted on the ceiling

  1250. and you know, whatever.

1251. It's like, instead we're gonna just go

1252. and give the gospel to people, right?

1253. And again, the same with Christ.

1254. Like Christ has all these riches in heaven,

1255. but he became poor so that we could be saved

1256. in the same way that sometimes we have to spend our money.

1257. But you know what the Bible is saying

1258. is that if you're a liberal person,

1259. then God's gonna be li-

1260. He's gonna give liberal to you.

1261. He kind of like takes care of you

1262. because you're taking care of other people.

1263. So you think like, oh man, I'm wasting all my money

1264. but then it's like God's gonna take care of you.

1265. He's gonna take care of you now

1266. and he's gonna take care of you in heaven for sure.

1267. So it's just like, it's the best investment

1268. you can make anyways because even if you invested

1269. all of your money, I mean, think about it.

1270. Let's just say you invested $10,000 every month

  1271. from now until you're 70 and you're like,

1272. all right, I've got $50 million in my 401k and then you die.

1273. What did it even accomplish?

1274. And then like your kids are spoiled brats

1275. and they just take your $50 million

1276. and just destroy their lives on drugs

  1277. and alcohol or something.

  1278. Oh, that never happens.

  1279. Happens all the time.

1280. Like, I mean, think about it.

  1281. You know, when I'm 70, I can't even really do any,

  1282. I don't know, I'm just like,

1283. I'm like, what am I gonna do

  1284. with $50 million or $100 million

  1285. whenever you're 70 anyways, you know?

1286. It's just like eat a gold plated burger, you know?

1287. Have you seen those things?

1288. They like wrap burgers in gold

1289. just because they can't make food

1290. any more expensive, I guess.

1291. It's just like, you know,

1292. they have to get a duck liver that's fat, full-graw, you know?

1293. It's just like, why not steak?

1294. You know, I was just like, hey, why not brisket?

1295. It's like at some point saving money becomes frivolous.

1296. Now again, I'm not against retirement.

  1297. I'm not saying don't have a 401k.

1298. I'm not saying don't plan for the future.

1299. But I'm saying this, like what's the point

1300. in just laying up treasures on earth

1301. where moth and rust, doth corrupt

1302. and thieves break through and steal

1303. rather than laying up treasures in heaven, okay?

1304. And that's the whole point that's being stated here.

1305. He's saying I'm giving my advice in verse 10.

1306. He's saying this is expedient means this is good for you

  1307. who have begun before.

1308. So he's like, you already gave some money

1309. and it says not only to do,

1310. but also to be forward a year ago.

1311. He's like, not only did you kind of like

1312. already maybe chip in some money,

1313. you guys said like we really want to give more even.

1314. We want to kind of like help the situation.

1315. So it's like, you said you want to do it.

1316. All right, it's time to do it.

1317. Verse 11, now perform the doing of it

1318. that as there was a readiness to will

1319. so there may be a performance also out of that

  1320. which he has.

1321. So he's saying, hey, let's do it then, perform it.

  1322. Give us the money.

1323. Show me the money, right?

1324. He says in verse 12, for if there be first

1325. a willing mind, it is accepted according to that

1326. a man hath and not according to that he hath not.

1327. So God is looking down from heaven and saying,

1328. hey, I like it when you are offering

1329. what you have to give.

1330. Some people would say, I'll give you a million dollars.

  1331. I just don't have it.

1332. It's like, well, how generous of you?

1333. If I had a million dollars, I would give it to you though.

  1334. Would you though?

1335. You know, it's like that isn't accepted.

  1336. It doesn't really work.

1337. It doesn't really mean anything.

1338. Okay, what is accepted is offering what you do have.

1339. He's saying, hey, what you have and you offer of that,

1340. that's what God cares about and that's what God considers

  1341. and that's what's important.

1342. Not what you would give.

1343. Not what you hypothetically would like to give.

  1344. What you can give.

1345. You know, the woman giving the two mites

1346. is gonna have great riches.

1347. It wasn't based on how much.

1348. It was based on what she had

1349. and what she was willing to give.

1350. He says here in verse number 13,

1351. for I mean not that other men be easy burdened,

1352. but by an equality that now at this time

1353. your abundance may be a supply for their want,

1354. that their abundance also may be a supply for your want,

1355. that there may be equality.

1356. As it is written, he that had gathered much

1357. had nothing over and he that had gathered little

  1358. had no lack.

1359. So my misinterpretation of chapter eight

1360. typically was kind of based on this statement,

  1361. which it's still a biblical principle.

1362. It's just not necessarily what the text is saying about Titus.

1363. But he's saying like, hey, there's kind of this equality

1364. that they have a want and you're supplying it.

1365. And then on the flip side, it's almost like

1366. also may be a supply for your want,

1367. that there may be inequality.

1368. In some senses, Jerusalem is sharing its riches

  1369. of prophets, apostles, preachers

1370. that are going out and evangelizing the world.

1371. And they're supplying their want and their need,

1372. whereas they don't have any money.

1373. And so these rich Greeks are able to basically

  1374. collect all their money.

1375. These Gentiles are able to give their money back

1376. to the saints at Jerusalem.

  1377. And so there's equality.

  1378. He's saying it's not that we're just wanting

1379. to enrich the saints at Jerusalem.

1380. We're not trying to set up the pope here.

1381. We're not trying to set up the Roman Catholic church

1382. where if you go there, it's this lavish,

  1383. multi-billion dollar corporation

1384. where they're just rolling in it.

1385. And then every other Catholic in the world

1386. is just this poor impoverished person.

1387. No, he wants it to be equality.

1388. And the equality is we're all kind of sharing in a sense.

  1389. Y'all are giving y'alls abundance

1390. and then we're giving y'all our abundance in a sense.

1391. It's like, hey, we're fat with preachers.

  1392. You're fat with cash.

  1393. Let's swap a little bit here.

1394. And again, that's just my interpretation.

1395. But the principle's for sure what the text is saying.

1396. The text is saying that, hey, there should be this equality.

1397. And it's not that we're just trying to enrich

1398. a particular church or a particular institution.

1399. We're just trying to kind of help those that are in need.

1400. Now, if no one's in need,

1401. we don't even need to give money to them.

1402. We don't even need to raise money for them.

  1403. There's no point.

1404. It's just like, hey, this particular group

  1405. is needing some money.

1406. So why don't we chip in and try to help them

1407. so there can be equality?

1408. We're not trying to say like,

1409. hey, let's bless a church in the Philippines

1410. so that they can be rich.

1411. It's to supply their lack.

1412. It's to supply their want in a sense.

1413. Not to try and just enrich one church over another.

1414. We want them to be some level of equality,

1415. some level of balance here.

1416. And he uses an Old Testament principle applied here.

1417. Notice, I love this because verse 15,

1418. which is quoting the Old Testament,

1419. it's kind of like talking about the manna.

1420. They would like gather manna.

1421. And if you gathered a lot of manna,

1422. you ended up eating all of it.

1423. And if you didn't gather much money

1424. or you didn't gather much manna,

1425. you ended up being satisfied anyways.

1426. It was just like, it just kind of always

  1427. worked out somehow.

1428. And it's just kind of what's interesting

1429. is that that has nothing to do with this at all.

1430. But then he's just using it to prove

1431. that you can use biblical principles as Old Testament

1432. in any way you want.

1433. You know, it doesn't have to be like,

1434. well, you have to know the context of this is manna

1435. and this is the Old Testament,

1436. this is the ancient Israelites and blah, blah, blah.

  1437. That's the Old Testament.

1438. Yeah, well, the Old Testament, same principle,

1439. applies in the New Testament about giving, okay?

1440. And I mean, gathering manna has nothing to do with giving.

  1441. I mean, he's eating.

  1442. It's gathering food.

1443. It's like the exact opposite of giving.

  1444. You're gathering, okay?

1445. But he uses the principle here

1446. and applies it in the text

1447. because you can use biblical principles

1448. to any way you want.

1449. As long as it's obviously within the framework

1450. of what the Bible teaches, right?

1451. We understand that he's using this principle

  1452. that's a true principle

1453. and then applying it in a new way or a unique way.

  1454. This is good preaching.

  1455. This is topical preaching.

1456. He says in verse 16,

1457. but thanks be to God,

1458. which put the same earnest care

1459. in the heart of Titus for you.

1460. For indeed, he accepted the exhortation,

1461. but being more forward of his own accord,

  1462. he went unto you.

1463. And we have sent with him the brother

1464. whose praise is in the gospel

  1465. throughout all the churches

  1466. and not that only,

1467. but who was also chosen of the churches

1468. to travel with us with this grace,

1469. which is administered by us to the glory

1470. of the same Lord in declaration of your ready mind,

1471. avoiding this that no man should blame us

1472. in this abundance, which is administered by us,

  1473. providing for honest things,

1474. not only on the side of the Lord,

1475. but also on the side of men.

1476. So saying, look, I'm sending Titus.

  1477. I'm sending another guy

1478. that has a great reputation of all churches.

1479. They're coming here for this grace

1480. to bless this other church.

1481. Everything we're doing is honest

1482. and the sight of all men.

1483. It's for an honest purpose.

  1484. It's transparent.

  1485. It's transparent who's coming.

1486. And again, it's transparent that this is not a commandment,

1487. that you guys are the ones that promised it

1488. and we're just taking you up on what you said.

1489. I mean, doesn't that seem pretty clear

  1490. and pretty honest?

1491. It's like, if a church says we want to give $10,000

1492. and we need you to carry the check,

1493. it's like, okay, we'll do that for you.

1494. You know, what's not honest

1495. is when you call Roger Jimenez

1496. and you say you want to give large sums of money

1497. to the Philippines church, can you give it to them?

1498. And he says yes, and then he doesn't.

  1499. That's not honest.

  1500. That's not right, okay?

1501. What would be right is for you

1502. to actually transport the money legitimately

1503. for it to be open, transparent,

1504. for people to realize what's going on.

1505. And again, it's just kind of sad

1506. that these things happen in the world today.

  1507. But they do.

1508. He said in verse number 22,

1509. and we have sent with them our brother

1510. whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things,

1511. but now much more diligent

1512. upon the great confidence which I have in you.

1513. Whether any do inquire of Titus,

1514. he is my partner and fellow helper concerning you

1515. or a brethren being inquired of.

1516. They are the messengers of the churches

1517. and the glory of Christ.

1518. Wherefore show you to them and before the churches

1519. the proof of your love

1520. and of your boast of our boasting on your behalf.

1521. So again, he's just reconfirming,

1522. these guys are good guys,

1523. they're the messengers, give them the money.

1524. Verse 24, show you to them and before the churches,

1525. the proof of your love.

1526. So he's like, prove to these guys

1527. and all churches that you guys really love Christ.

1528. You really love the saints of Jerusalem.

1529. You really love the brethren.

1530. And notice and our boasting on your behalf.

1531. So the apostle Paul was kind of going around bragging

1532. about the church at Corinth as being very generous.

  1533. He's calling them liberal.

1534. He's like saying, hey, the liberal saints at Corinth,

1535. look how generous they are.

1536. They're promising to give all this money

1537. to the saints of Jerusalem

1538. and they love the saints of Jerusalem

  1539. and they love Christ.

1540. And he's like, go ahead and prove that,

1541. because I've been going around telling everybody

1542. how much you love to give

1543. and I've been telling everybody

1544. that you guys have made these promises

1545. and I've been bragging about you guys.

1546. So go ahead and just do it

1547. so that I don't look like silly

1548. for having told everybody you're gonna give them this money

  1549. because it's really embarrassing.

  1550. It's really embarrassing as a messenger.

1551. If someone came to me like, hey, I need some money

1552. and you're like, you know what?

1553. I know somebody that wants to give you money.

1554. They told me they want to give you money.

1555. And then you go, you're like, hey, they need that money.

1556. And you're like, I'm not gonna give it to them.

1557. Now you're gonna feel really embarrassed

1558. when you have to go back and be like,

1559. yeah, that guy wasn't gonna give you money.

  1560. I'm sorry.

  1561. It's like really embarrassing

  1562. about that particular situation.

1563. And so, you know, if you make a vow,

1564. if you promise to do something like this,

  1565. you're supposed to deliver.

1566. You know, I just want to go to like,

  1567. go to chapter one.

1568. I'll just read a couple of verses for you,

1569. but the Bible says in Deuteronomy 23,

1570. when thou shalt vow a vow unto the Lord thy God,

1571. thou shalt not slack to pay it.

1572. So if you promise to do something,

1573. especially in a spiritual context, you better do it.

1574. The Bible says, when thou vowest a vow unto God,

1575. defer not to pay it.

  1576. That's Ecclesiastes chapter five.

1577. The Bible says in Psalm 15, which we've been singing,

1578. he that sweareth to his own hurt and changeeth not.

1579. Meaning, hey, you make a promise,

1580. you need to deliver on that particular promise.

1581. Psalm 76, 11, vow and pay unto the Lord your God.

1582. Psalm 116 verse 14, I will pay my vows on the Lord,

    Psalms 116:14

1583. now in the presence of all his people.

1584. Hey, you make an oath, you make a promise to other Christians,

1585. you better make sure to deliver on that promise.

1586. Don't go back on it.

1587. Psalm 66 verse 13, I will go to thy house

    Psalms 66:13

1588. with burnt offerings, I will pay thee my vows.

1589. So you make a vow, you offer something to God,

1590. a free will offering even, then you have to pay it.

1591. Now, this is where you have to understand free will offerings.

1592. A free will offering is truly, you don't have to give it,

1593. but if you promise a free will offering,

1594. then you do have to offer that to God.

  1595. So it's like, hey, I didn't have to,

1596. but if you vow it, then you do.

1597. Now again, think about this practically.

1598. You live somewhere in Israel, you don't live in Jerusalem.

1599. To offer a sacrifice, you have to travel to Jerusalem.

1600. So you could be like, hey, I've got this sheep

1601. that I've been raising and in six months,

1602. I'm gonna go take this sheep to Jerusalem

1603. and offer it as a sacrifice as a free will offering.

1604. Well then you could say, I have a vow on it,

1605. like this sheep is spoken for.

1606. It's basically given to God.

1607. And this is where this idea then gets twisted

1608. by the Pharisees in the gospels

1609. when Jesus Christ is bringing it up,

1610. that they would say like,

1611. someone's like, parents is coming to them

  1612. and asking for help.

1613. And they're saying like, oh no, no, it is Corbin.

  1614. And again, that's a weird thing.

1615. It is Corbin, meaning it's a gift.

1616. Meaning like, hey, I've already vowed this to God

1617. so I could never give it to you

1618. because I've already promised it to God

1619. and you're not allowed to go back,

1620. even if it was a free will offering

1621. on something you vowed, you're supposed to pay it.

1622. But again, they were lying about it.

1623. They weren't gonna really sacrifice it to God.

1624. They were just saying that to get their parents off their case

1625. and not actually honor their father and mother.

1626. And again, the honor there was actually

1627. in a financial context, not just a respect.

1628. But it was saying like, hey, you should give money

1629. to your parents if they are in need.

1630. But they're saying, no, I've vowed this unto God

1631. and I can't go back on that, I can't take that away.

1632. So again, if you make a free will offering,

1633. promise to God, you're supposed to deliver.

1634. You could maybe argue, and it's not in the text,

1635. this is just an idea, that that's what

1636. Ananias and Sapphire maybe did,

1637. is that they may have said like,

1638. hey, we will give all of the money from this sale to God

1639. and then when they sold it,

1640. they kept part of the price back,

1641. gave it to the church and that's how they lied

1642. into the Holy Ghost is because they're saying,

1643. hey, I was gonna give this.

1644. But it's like, hey, when I go into the house

1645. with my burnt offerings, I will pay you my vows.

1646. And it's in the presence of all those people.

1647. Like I'm not gonna lie about it,

1648. I'm not gonna go back on it, I'm gonna keep that word.

1649. And of course it's not a scapegoat to not help your parents,

1650. it's to simply, because you actually love God.

1651. James five says, my brethren swear not,

1652. but let your yay be yay and your nay nay,

1653. unless you fall into condemnation.

1654. The Bible tells us not to swear.

1655. And swearing in the Bible, not in our culture,

1656. in the Bible is like making some kind of

  1657. over the top statement.

1658. So it's like, you know, people will say like,

1659. I swear to God or I swear on the Bible.

1660. And instead of just saying like,

1661. hey, did you promise this to God?

1662. It's like, yes, that's the right answer.

1663. It's like, hey, did you promise this to God?

1664. I swear to God I did it.

1665. You know, or I swear on the Bible.

1666. You shouldn't ever do that.

1667. Because it's basically pointing to the fact

1668. that the person's lying and they feel uncomfortable

1669. about the fact that they're lying.

1670. So instead of just saying yes,

1671. they use these over the top statements.

1672. And again, not only are they lying,

1673. they're invoking God in their lie.

  1674. They're invoking spiritual things

1675. because, you know, men swear by the greater

1676. to essentially affirm something that they've done.

1677. And again, maybe it's possible occasionally

  1678. some people invoke this

1679. because they're just trying to convince somebody.

1680. But it's definitely a need to persuade.

1681. And it's often coming from a place

1682. of someone that's actually lying about it.

1683. So you should just pay attention in this world.

1684. When someone, you're questioning them,

1685. you're trying to figure it out,

1686. and they just immediately go to swearing.

1687. You know, it's kind of a red flag,

1688. like, oh, this person's probably lying.

1689. This person's probably being deceitful

1690. when they go and they start saying these kinds of things

  1691. invoking some other power.

1692. You know, it's like Tyler Baker.

1693. When he was getting fired, he's like,

1694. I swear on the Bible.

  1695. You know, I didn't do this.

  1696. I swear.

1697. It's like, why are you doing that?

  1698. You know.

1699. But what did he say in 2 Corinthians chapter one, verse 17?

1700. He says that his yea is yea and his nay is nay.

1701. Okay, I'm not gonna read the whole verse here,

1702. but he's trying to make it clear.

1703. And again, that language seems a little bit confusing.

1704. He says that with me, there should be yea, yea, nay, nay.

1705. And he says in verse 18,

1706. but as God is true, our word to you was not yea and nay.

1707. Like, it's really confusing for me.

1708. Maybe it's not for you.

1709. But he's just saying like, when I said yes,

1710. it was really a yes.

1711. And when I said no, it was really a no.

1712. You know, some of you kids know that your parents,

1713. when they say yes, it can be changed.

1714. And so you like, you just keep pestering them.

1715. You're trying to turn that yes into a no,

1716. or you're trying to turn that no into a yes,

  1717. and whatever.

1718. And the boss is saying like, no, my yes is a yes,

1719. and my no is a no.

  1720. Okay.

1721. And he's like, don't try to like question the fact

1722. that when I promise something, I'm gonna deliver.

1723. And he's like, God never does this.

1724. God is always yea and yea, yes and yes, no and no.

1725. He's not gonna change or alter.

1726. And the same way there's church,

1727. hey, offering money to somebody needs to be yea and yea.

1728. I'll just close on one last thought is, you know,

1729. when I knew that things were getting weird

1730. and trauma and stuff with, you know, the new IB

1731. and I saw that pastor Jimenez, you know,

1732. a former now was separating from us.

1733. I just kind of got worried about the work

1734. that's going on in the Philippines.

1735. Just because I love, you know, the gospel

1736. and I love soul winning and I love those, you know,

  1737. that stuff.

1738. So I had reached out to Pastor Stuckey

1739. and I just said, hey, I just wanna let you know

1740. that like, if he separates from you

1741. and you're just kind of left high and dry

1742. or you're not getting finances or something,

1743. our church would love to just support you

1744. because we just love you and love your church or whatever.

1745. But nothing came with that.

1746. I mean, I just said that to him

1747. and you know, it was really easy to say

1748. but it's like several months, fast forward six months,

  1749. nine months, I don't know, timeline

1750. but just fast forward a lot of time.

1751. Then he's calling me and he's like, hey, you know,

1752. like what are you sad or whatever?

1753. It's like, well, we're not getting any money

1754. and things are like shady and whatever

1755. and it's like, can you help?

  1756. And it's like, yeah.

1757. And you know, it'd be wicked for a church

1758. to say like, hey, we'd love to help you

1759. and then go back on that.

1760. It's like, nope, yeah, we'd love to help you.

1761. And not only us, we want everybody to help you.

1762. We want all the churches to help you

  1763. because you know what?

1764. We want the work to be thriving over there

1765. and you know, Pastor Stuckey is a really good guy

  1766. and he's really sacrificial

1767. and he deserves to be supported.

  1768. And that's why I'm really excited

1769. about him coming and preaching for us

1770. and I'm really excited to have fellowship with him more.

1771. I'm excited to go back to the Philippines

1772. and to work with them.

1773. I'm excited to see the people that are in this church.

1774. Obviously, of course, that's not to diminish

1775. or take away from what our evangelists,

1776. evangelists, Duncan or Bannock has been doing

  1777. and accomplishing over there.

1778. But you know, we shouldn't just be selfish

1779. and say, oh well, our church is doing good

1780. and our evangelist is doing good

1781. and nuts to you guys, you guys made your bed

1782. with a bad actor, with a bad person.

1783. You guys can continue to just fail

1784. while we'll just continue to thrive and do our thing.

1785. No, it's like, hey, we should try

1786. to figure out an equality here

1787. and we should try to bless them too

1788. and try to do good to them too.

1789. And we're on the same team.

1790. Our church is independent, but we're on the same team.

1791. And when you're on the same team

1792. and you have a team mentality,

1793. it's not always about you

1794. and you're willing to help other people more.

1795. And I hope that you won't have this attitude

1796. of just despising other Christians or other churches,

  1797. even if they're a little different,

1798. even if they don't always agree with us,

  1799. even if they're a weaker brethren

1800. or whatever they put beans in their chili or whatever,

1801. it's like, hey, we can still love them

1802. and we can be graces to them

1803. and they're still on the same team.

1804. And we should just love other Christians

1805. and love other churches and love the gospel

  1806. and wanna support them.

1807. And it's not always about us.

1808. And if you promise to help people, you better deliver.

1809. Don't be someone that says,

1810. that has this great swelling words of vanity

1811. and promises the moon and promises

1812. to do things for people

1813. and you can't keep it.

1814. Be careful what you vow to God

1815. and be careful what you say.

1816. And if you do vow something,

  1817. if you promise something,

1818. make sure you do deliver on that.

  1819. Let's close in prayer.

1820. Thank you Heavenly Father so much for your word.

1821. Thank you so much for the generosity

1822. that's demonstrated in this chapter.

1823. Thank you for liberal people

1824. and liberal Christians that exist in this world.

1825. Thank you so much for those who love

1826. to just bless God's people and bless churches.

1827. I pray that you would help us to have a similar attitude.

1828. The Bible says that God loves a cheerful giver.

1829. I pray that you would help us

1830. that if we were ever to give,

1831. if we ever felt compelled to wanna bless people,

1832. that we would do with a cheerful and a happy heart

1833. and that we would do it

1834. because we just love the saints.

  1835. We just love God.

  1836. We love the gospel.

1837. We love the work of the ministry.

1838. I pray that those who bless the works in the Philippines

1839. and they bless other churches and they bless the poor.

1840. I pray that you would just be liberal with them, God.

1841. That you would pour out a blessing to them.

1842. And I pray that you would help us

1843. to not have a bad attitude about money

1844. but rather be cheerful givers in Jesus name we pray amen.
