  1. I want to invite your attention to a passage that's found in the

  2. 27th chapter of Matthew. And I want to begin reading

  3. there in verse 57. Now when the evening had come,

  4. there came a rich man of Arimathea named Joseph who

  5. himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.

  6. This man went to pilate and asked for the body of Jesus,

  7. then pilate commanded the body to be given to him.

  8. When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen,

  9. cloth and laid it in his new tomb, which he had hewn out of a

  10. rock and he rolled a large Stone against the door of the Tomb and

  11. departed. For a little while this morning,

  12. I want to talk on the subject. I was simply entitled buried in

  13. a rich man's tomb and looking at the burial of Jesus Christ.

  14. We are face to face with some astounding truths.

  15. Most people generally understand in are aware of the significance

  16. of the Cross of Christ. And certainly rightfully.

  17. So for, on the cross was the greatest gift ever given on the

  18. cross, the greatest price paid and the greatest.

  19. Device ever made. But when we study about the

  20. crossed it seems as though we want a very hurriedly get the

  21. chapter 28 and get to the good news of the resurrection and you

  22. know admittedly the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the single

  23. greatest Miracle the world ever knew because it is that Miracle

  24. of the Resurrection that demonstrates his accomplished

  25. work on the cross. That redeems us and his power

  26. over death, that gives the obedient child of God, hope.

  27. But between the crucifixion and the resurrection, there is a

  28. burial. And, at first, it might seem

  29. like a rather mundane act unnecessary act with little or

  30. no consequence, except what happens on either side.

  31. But really, the burial of Jesus is as spectacular, in many ways

  32. as was his death, and as will be his resurrection.

  33. And so really, I'm saying this, even the burial of Jesus Christ

  34. becomes a testimony To the Lord's.

  35. Kingliness and a testimony to his deity.

  36. Even his burial is proof in fact that he is none other than all

  37. that he claimed to be. And that is the Son of God.

  38. All of these things that I just mentioned to you though, in a

  39. general sense comes to us through the testimony of a man

  40. by the name of Joseph of Arimathea now, just a little

  41. background. Here, there are two key

  42. prophecies that must be fulfilled in the burial of Jesus

  43. Christ. Just one of which is found in

  44. the Old Testament it's found in Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 9.

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  45. And let me just say we all know this but the entire chapter of

  46. 53 and Isaiah is dedicated to the death of Jesus Christ.

  47. Now remember this, the smaller, the detail, the greater the

  48. impact it has, when it's fulfilled me, give you a little

  49. example. The Bible says that Jesus was

  50. taken from prison and from judgment and somebody might say

  51. in it. What's the big deal?

  52. Isaiah 53 says he was taken from prison and from judgment.

  53. Now the big deal about that is it broke Roman law at the time?

  54. In fact, Roman law at the time provided a two-day interval from

  55. the time that somebody was sentenced to be executed to the

  56. time that they were actually taken to a Roman cross and

  57. mailed there. And the reason for that, that

  58. was Rome's way of the appeal process.

  59. For example, if new testimony can be brought forth in those

  60. two days that this person was innocent, then he would not have

  61. to be crucified. Secondarily, the two-day

  62. interval. Provided a man to get all of his

  63. Affairs in order so that in two days he was going to die on a

  64. Roman cross. But not Jesus.

  65. He was taken from prison and from judgment.

  66. Remember this? The smaller the detailing

  67. prophecy the greater the impact that it has when it's accurately

  68. fulfilled. So in Isaiah chapter 53 and

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  69. verse 9. We have this prophecy and they

  70. made his grave with the wicked but with the rich at his death,

  71. because he had no Violence nor was any deceit found in his

  72. mouth? Another translation simply says

  73. this, his grave was to be assigned with wicked men yet.

  74. He was with the rich man in his death.

  75. Now, the grave to be assigned among Wicked, man.

  76. Keep that in the back of your mind.

  77. We're going to get back to that later of where that would have

  78. been. All we know, is there are two

  79. key prophecies that have to be fulfilled.

  80. Number 1 is found in the Old Testament and number two, it's

  81. found by Jesus, Christ himself in Matthew, chapter, 12, and

  82. verse 40. Now you remember they said the

  83. Jesus give us a sign. Show us a magic trick and Jesus

  84. says an evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign.

  85. And he said the only sign that I'm going to give you is the

  86. sign of the prophet. Jonah for as Jonah was three

  87. days and three nights in the belly of that.

  88. Great fish. So shall the son of man be also

  89. Three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

  90. Now in order to fulfill prophecy Not only was Jesus did three

  91. days, but he has to be buried. All three days to two

  92. prophecies, Isaiah 53:9, Matthew chapter 12, and verse 40.

Isaiah 53:9 Matthew 12 chapter mention

  93. And all of this comes to us through the testimony of Joseph

  94. of Arimathea. Alright, now, let's go back to

  95. Matthew chapter 27, let's find out what time it is.

    Matthew 27 chapter mention

  96. It says they're beginning, their that in the evening was come

  97. that's talking about the early evening of the Jewish day and it

  98. began at 3 p.m. and it went until 6 p.m. incidentally.

  99. The Sabbath would have began at 6 p.m. and would have gone to 6

  100. p.m. the next day. Now, what do we know about the

  101. crucifixion? By way of time?

  102. What we know is in Mark chapter 15, he was crucified the ninth

    Mark 15 chapter mention

  103. hour. We find that there was Darkness

  104. over all the Earth from the the third hour.

  105. He was crucified from the sixth hour to the ninth hour.

  106. There was Darkness over all the Earth and what do we know?

  107. We know that Jesus then said, it is finished now, Little side

  108. note here. Don't ever think.

  109. That Jesus was a victim. Jesus was no man's victim.

  110. Jesus was an ultimate Victor. He was thoroughly in control.

  111. Do you remember another gospel account when Jesus is hanging on

  112. the cross? The Bible says, and Jesus

  113. knowing all things to be fulfilled said what he said.

  114. I thirst, you know, if that means Jesus said all these

  115. things have already been fulfilled but there's one final

  116. prophecy that's found that it has to be fulfilled.

  117. And that was, they would give him sour wine or vinegar.

  118. They would dip that sponge. They would Take the hyssop, they

  119. would dip it in the vinegar. They put it to his lips.

  120. And then Jesus said after that, it's finished.

  121. You know, when the Bible says that he bowed his head.

  122. You know what's interesting about that word, bowed his head.

  123. This really shows the ultimate Victorious, savior that we serve

  124. today. When the Bible says that Jesus

  125. said it is finished, he said, father into thy hands.

  126. I commend my spirit. And then the Bible says and he

  127. Hold his head. And somebody might say, well, so

  128. what? He bowed his head.

  129. The word bowed, their literally means to gently willfully.

  130. Pillow, your head. Are you getting the picture just

  131. like Jesus says, no one takes my life.

  132. He says my life, I freely give. Jesus knew all prophecies needed

  133. to be fulfilled. Except one he said, I thirst

  134. that was now fulfilled. He said, father I've done it.

  135. It's finished into thy hands. I commend, I commend my spirit.

  136. And he bowed his head and he died.

  137. We know that it's about 3:00 when Jesus finally dies, but we

  138. find some other things in John chapter, 19, we want to talk

  139. about some things in John chapter 19, what day was it?

    John 19 chapter mention

  140. Now, I know that there are varying ideas of opinion about

  141. the day that Jesus died. What day did?

  142. He die? 1 John chapter 19.

  143. Beginning there in verse 31. It says, it was the Day of

  144. preparation that work. Preparation comes from the Greek

  145. word, Paris Q&A. And it literally means this, it

  146. literally means the day before the Sabbath.

  147. In fact, it was such a it was such a well-known term that

  148. Paris qaid day, literally became a technical term for Friday.

  149. Now what would the next day? Be the next day would have been

  150. the Sabbath. Let me just say this though.

  151. How about the per day of preparation?

  152. They would have understood about the day of preparation, going

  153. all the way back to Exodus chapter. 16 Jewish people were

  154. instructed to keep the Sabbath and to keep it holy.

  155. And that meant that any preparation for the Sabbath had

  156. to be done on the day before you remember this too.

  157. That even when the Manna was delivered by God for them, they

  158. had to collect enough on Friday to carry them over on Saturday

  159. because they were not permitted to do that.

  160. On Saturday. So in other words, it was a very

  161. well understood De Paris. Q a day, was a day of

  162. preparation for the Sabbath. It became a technical term for

  163. Friday. Now, it wasn't just any old

  164. run-of-the-mill Sabbath. John chapter 19 says it was a

    John 19 chapter mention

  165. high day. It was a high Sabbath, and we

  166. simply know that to be a Passover Sabbath, all that being

  167. said, then the by Bible says the Jews.

  168. The Jews don't want them hanging on the cross.

  169. The juice, you know, in the gospel accounts, when the Bible

  170. records Jews and a plural sense like that, it's not talking

  171. about the multiplicity of people with Jewish blood running

  172. through their veins, it's not talking about even those that

  173. were proselytes to the Jewish religion when it says Jews, it

  174. is talking about the Hostile leaders.

  175. The Jewish leaders that opposed Christ.

  176. So it's 3:00 Jesus is hanging on the cross.

  177. He's hanging between those two thieves and all of a sudden, the

  178. religious leaders. They don't want their bodies

  179. hanging on the cross and they want their legs to be broken.

  180. One scholar said, they didn't want their bodies to remain in

  181. the cross to spend it in the air right outside their City.

  182. Just north of the temple area on this very special Passover.

  183. Sabbath, you know, basically they were reaching back to a

  184. passage found in Deuteronomy chapter 21 beginning There in

    Deuteronomy 21 chapter mention

  185. verse 22. It says if a man has committed,

  186. a sin, deserving of death and is put to death and you hang him on

  187. a tree. His body shall not remain

  188. overnight on the tree but you shall surely bury him that day

  189. so that you do not defile, the land, which the Lord your God is

  190. giving you as an inheritance. For he who is hanged is accursed

  191. of God. Now, the Jews, want the legs

  192. broke and now I want to ask you I keep hitting the curtain.

  193. I got to ask you. Have you ever watched

  194. Hollywood's depict meant of the breaking of the legs?

  195. I think all of us. Perhaps have seen something on

  196. television. We've seen something by way of

  197. Hollywood's depict meant of what it was or what it looked like

  198. when they broke the legs of those two thieves, that were

  199. crucified next to Jesus. I'll tell you what I've seen,

  200. I've seen some guy come up like a soldier and he grabs a big old

  201. Mallet. And I've all, I've walked him go

  202. like this and just swing like he's In for the cheap seats and

  203. just come in sideways and break the legs on an angle and that's

  204. it. That's not what they did.

  205. I'm going to apologize for this in advance.

  206. It's very graphic. The word broken means to shiver

  207. to pieces. What they really would do, they

  208. would take a large wooden Mallet and one Roman historian said,

  209. they took that large Mallet and they beat the bones, they beat

  210. the legs until the bones were disintegrated.

  211. I can't even fathom excruciating Agony like that I've had pain in

  212. my life, we've all had physical pain in our life of some degree

  213. of the other. I can't even fathom that they

  214. would beat the legs until their bones were disintegrated.

  215. Now, what was the purpose of breaking the legs?

  216. Well, we know that a person that died on the cross died, by way

  217. of Suffocation. In fact, they lived many times

  218. over a number of days and they would die of Suffocation because

  219. the only way to get air would be to pull on their hands and push

  220. on their feet and get a big breath and then sink back down

  221. again. Incidentally, if you want to

  222. know what kind of what that's like, just go out to a jungle

  223. gym or a pull-up bar, and just grab the bar and hang hang.

  224. All your weight. It's hard to breathe.

  225. You have to do something to your diaphragm.

  226. You got to lift yourself to get a breath.

  227. And can you imagine doing that? But it wasn't a pull-up bar.

  228. It was nails through your hands and through your feet.

  229. To expedite death. The beginning part of the

  230. Expediting of death was the crushing of the legs.

  231. Now, interesting about that, when they broke the first guy's

  232. legs, then they broke the second guys legs, then they came to

  233. Jesus, and they did not break his legs because they said he

  234. was already dead. Now, you know this fulfilled

  235. prophecy and that's really the reason in Psalm 34:20 where it

    Psalms 34:20

  236. says he guards all of his bones and not one of them is broken.

  237. Now, I guarantee you the Romans didn't know about Psalm 34 and

  238. if they did, they would've cared.

  239. Don't you see, they're doing exactly as God.

  240. Orchestrated the whole thing. God is the one with the power.

  241. Not these men and they're carrying out God's Will and

  242. they're fulfilling every prophecy.

  243. They didn't break the Lourdes legs because it was prophesied,

  244. that none of his bones would be broken.

  245. Now, all of a sudden, though comes the thrusting of the spear

  246. into the side. Now, interestingly, I've read

  247. about that. You know what they called that

  248. the Romans called that the Deathstroke now stay with me on

  249. this. It was called the Deathstroke.

  250. And what they would do is they would crush the legs.

  251. Then they would take the spear and they would thrust it into

  252. the side and they would pierce the heart Expediting death.

  253. Okay, somebody might say in a way to go away.

  254. If there were going to do that, why'd they crush the legs?

  255. If there were going to expedite death by thrusting, the spear

  256. into the side calling that the Deathstroke.

  257. Why crushed the legs? Well, I don't really know I

  258. wasn't there, but I'll tell you what I've read and in the words

  259. of my late father-in-law, this is free.

  260. I read this, I read that a Roman historian said that when

  261. somebody died on the cross, it was so horrible, not even a

  262. Roman citizen could ever be crucified.

  263. In fact, they literally shuddered to even speak of

  264. crucifixion and all that happened.

  265. It was terrible. It was gruesome, it was awful.

  266. It was painful over a long period of time.

  267. One historian said, the reason for the breaking of the legs,

  268. they crushed the legs. To give them all the pain and

  269. all the agony. All at one time, and then comes

  270. the Deathstroke into the heart and they died.

  271. One historian. Said that, the reason that they

  272. did that is if they just thrust the spear into the side and

  273. administered the Deathstroke, that would be an act.

  274. Out of mercy. And that was not what was

  275. intended. Is that true?

  276. No idea. But it makes sense.

  277. But you know what? They pierced the side of Jesus.

  278. Because it fulfilled prophecy. Zechariah 12 and 10.

  279. They looked on him whom they had pierced.

  280. They crush the legs of the others.

  281. They took the spear and thrust it into the Lord's Side.

  282. And the Bible says that outflowed blood and water now,

  283. Interesting. Why did your how did Jesus die?

  284. I was driving down the road one time and I don't know about you

  285. guys but I sometimes like to tune into the religious programs

  286. and sometimes I do that just for material, see what's being

  287. preached out there and some certain things and there was a

  288. guy and he was pretty proud of his answer.

  289. He's a preacher of some affiliation and there was a

  290. caller that called in and they said how did Jesus died was the

  291. actual cause of death? When Jesus died on the cross.

  292. And the preacher said well it's obvious, it's suffocation.

  293. Yeah, no, it wasn't. That's not how Jesus died.

  294. That's how people died. That's not how Jesus died.

  295. And by the way, he died in six hours.

  296. His life, he freely gave. Now how did he die?

  297. Psalm 69, beginning in verse 20, listen to this.

  298. Reproach has broken my heart. And I am full of heaviness.

  299. I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none.

  300. And for comforters, but I found none.

  301. How do we know this is talking about Jesus, because of verse

  302. 20, they also gave me golf for my food and for my thirst they

  303. gave me vinegar to drink. Jesus died of a broken heart.

  304. I read this from a physician and he wrote this about this very

  305. idea. He said it is true that in very,

  306. very rare cases under extreme intense pressure and Trauma the

  307. heart which is a muscle could in fact, rupture and therefore

  308. spill its blood into the pericardium with the limpid

  309. serum and create the blood and water that flowed out of the

  310. side of Jesus. So What do we know?

  311. We know he's dead. We know his legs are not broken.

  312. We know his side was pierced and we know he had a broken heart.

  313. All prophecies fulfilled. All right, guess what?

  314. Somebody now has to take him down from the cross.

  315. And guess what? In order to count this day,

  316. Friday, Paris q a day as one of the days that he was buried to

  317. fulfill prophecy a man by the name of Joseph of Arimathea had

  318. three hours to get that done. Three hours to get it done.

  319. Now, you remember, when I said that his grave was to be

  320. assigned among wicked men, but he would be with the rich in his

  321. death. I told you to hold that in the

  322. back of your thinking in the back of your mind.

  323. And now we're going to talk about what did they actually do

  324. with people that were Wicked, Man, what?

  325. What about those grapes? They were actually taken to a

  326. literal place in the valley of hinnom called gehenna.

  327. The city waste dump and they would take these bodies

  328. interesting, isn't it? And they would throw them on

  329. these open Flames that burned constantly.

  330. He was crucified between two thieves.

  331. His grave was to be assigned at gehenna with those wicked men

  332. but God said it wasn't going to happen.

  333. God said he would be with a rich man in his death.

  334. Incidentally, watch this. His grave was to be assigned at

  335. gehenna, which by the way, is a picture of a name for hell.

  336. The Lake of Fire? Now, watch this, Jesus dies on

  337. the cross. He is our Shepherd.

  338. We follow him. Watch what Jesus does.

  339. Watch what our leader? Did he dies on the cross, he was

  340. buried. He sidestepped gehenna, the city

  341. waste dump and guess we're going to get to do.

  342. If we are baptized into Jesus Christ, washed in the blood of

  343. Jesus and live our lives Faithfully unto death.

  344. Guess what? We're going to get to do.

  345. We're going to get to do what Jesus did sidestep gehenna, and

  346. go to the paradise of God. None of that.

  347. Is an accident. So who's going to care for the

  348. body? Who's going to do that?

  349. The disciples know, they all fled.

  350. They didn't have a clue. Even John doesn't seem to be

  351. around right now. The women, they didn't have the

  352. resources to bury Jesus. All those precious women will

  353. get to them at the very end, but they didn't have any resources

  354. to bury Jesus and also, they're From Galilee it is No Grave

  355. nearby in Jerusalem. Incidentally, going back to

  356. Matthew 27 and 57 where it says there came a rich man.

  357. Joseph of Arimathea, and Luke 23 and 51.

  358. It says Arimathea was a city of the Jews or Judea Galilee was

  359. the city of the Gentiles. Don't you remember in Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  360. chapter 2, remember the disciples and Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  361. the apostles and X2, they're speaking in tongues, as the

  362. spirit, gave them utterance, what did they say?

  363. Wait a minute aren't all these who speak galilaeans.

  364. They didn't have a grave nearby. Couldn't have been any of them,

  365. but look at the Brilliance of God.

  366. All of a sudden, it was the man that they least expected. it was

  367. a man of Arimathea city of the Jews.

  368. A rich man. Just happened to have a grave

  369. nearby. Listen to this.

  370. What else do we know about him in Mark 1543, he was a Sanhedrin

  371. member and he waited for the kingdom of God and Luke 23 and

  372. fifty. It says he was a good man, it

  373. says he was a just man. The next verse says he did not

  374. consent to condemn Jesus. Matthew 27 and 57 And it said he

  375. was a disciple of Jesus in John 19 and 38, it says he was a

  376. secret disciple for fear of the Jews.

  377. Now, you know, he had a lot to lose.

  378. You know what, I think about those that were in fear of the

  379. Jews, I think about John chapter 9.

    John 9 chapter mention

  380. And I think about the time, when Jesus healed, a man, that was

  381. born, blind been blind, all of his life and he's there and he's

  382. a beggar now and people are walking on by and the disciples.

  383. They want to know why, and they say they said what, why is he

  384. born blind? He said that they asked Jesus is

  385. that he send his parents in? Jesus teaches a little sermon on

  386. that. Babying, that its name, it's

  387. nobody's fault. But in the end it's going to

  388. glorify. God is going to magnify God In

  389. The End. Okay, a little bit later though.

  390. When the Pharisees were questioning this man and then

  391. they went to his parents, they asked his parents three

  392. questions. They said, is this your son?

  393. Was he born blind? And how is it that?

  394. Now he can see, you know what they said.

  395. Yeah, that's our son. Yes, he was born blind.

  396. And as to how it can see you ask him, he's of age.

  397. And then it says and this they said for fear of the Jews, why?

  398. Because it already had been established.

  399. Wished that if anyone would confess that Jesus was the

  400. Christ, they would be cast out of the synagogue.

  401. That's why Joseph of Arimathea at the time was a secret

  402. disciple of Jesus. He would have lost his Sanhedrin

  403. rights, it would have been the a the end of all of his wealth.

  404. No one would do business with him.

  405. He would lose social status. His family would be alienated

  406. and ostracized, it would be the end of everything.

  407. Now, get this. This secret disciple has to act

  408. quickly, you know, what it says. I love this and he summoned the

  409. courage. You know, there's nothing wrong

  410. with fear. The only thing wrong with fear

  411. is when you let fear win. In fact, there would be no such

  412. thing as courage if there were no such thing as fear.

  413. He was a secret disciple for fear of the Jews.

  414. But what did he do? He summoned the courage.

  415. He summoned the courage to go get the body of Jesus.

  416. Okay, it has to happen before 6 p.m.

  417. So it's going to happen before Friday is over.

  418. Now, maybe you're sitting there and maybe you're saying, wait a

  419. minute, I'm doing the math, I'm doing the math and it's not

  420. coming out. You said, three days and three

  421. nights and it doesn't fit if Jesus was crucified on Friday

  422. and it says, three days. Three nights, it doesn't seem

  423. fit to me. It doesn't work well, the

  424. question is this, when we say three days and three nights, are

  425. we talking about three 24-hour periods?

  426. The answer to that question is No, in fact, the phrase days and

  427. nights was a Jewish colloquial term that meant any part of the

  428. day. In fact, let me just illustrate

  429. it like this. Let's do the math.

  430. Here we go. Friday.

  431. Friday night. Saturday, Saturday night,

  432. Sunday, Sunday night, that doesn't work.

  433. It has him resurrected on Monday that can't work.

  434. So let's do what people do sometimes.

  435. They just was just back it up to Thursday.

  436. Watch this Thursday, Thursday night Friday, Friday night,

  437. Saturday, Saturday night that won't work.

  438. It has him resurrected on the fourth day.

  439. There's two things that have to happen.

  440. It has to be the first day of the week or Sunday and it it has

  441. to be the third day. Now, in Luke chapter 24, we find

    Luke 24 chapter mention

  442. it was the third day. Do you remember those disciples?

  443. They're walking along from Jerusalem, to the little village

  444. of Emmaus about seven miles or so.

  445. And Jesus appears before them and Jesus says, what manner of

  446. communication are you, speaking of and are sad and they went on

  447. and said, oh, surely you are stranger from these parts and

  448. don't know the things that have happened.

  449. I love what Jesus says, Jesus is what things and he allows them

  450. to unburden their aching Hearts. Remember that.

  451. Do you remember what they said? We thought he was going to

  452. redeem Israel and then they said and today is what the third day.

  453. What do we find earlier in that chapter chapter 24?

  454. It says it was the first day of the week.

  455. So it was Sunday and it's the third day.

  456. It's not talking about three 24-hour periods.

  457. Matthew 16:24. He would be killed and raised

    Matthew 16:24

  458. the third day in chapter 17 and 23.

  459. They shall kill him. And the third day, he shall be

  460. raised so three days and three nights simply referred to a part

  461. of a day and not three 24-hour periods.

  462. Furthermore, The talmud which is a Jewish commentary on tradition

  463. and scripture says a day and night, makes one Ona and any

  464. part of an Ona is as the whole. Let me give you a little example

  465. where you been Frank? The three days.

  466. Will you been? I've been in Columbia, Missouri.

  467. That's where I've been three. 24-hour periods.

  468. Not necessarily. You see, I got on a plane and I

  469. flew there and I arrived about 3 o'clock on a Friday afternoon.

  470. I stayed all night. I got up on Saturday morning and

  471. I stayed all day and all night. I got up on Sunday morning.

  472. I went over to congregation there that have Rice Road

  473. congregation. You know what I worship with

  474. those good folks there and then I got on a plane and I flew home

  475. where you been for three days. I've been in Columbia, Missouri

  476. 3, 24 hour period snow a part of all of those days.

  477. Do you see the point in order to fulfill prophecy?

  478. Joseph of Arimathea has to act quickly and get Jesus buried

  479. before. It is 6 p.m. to count Friday as

  480. one of the three days. All right in summary so far.

  481. The Lord got the juice to get their part done.

  482. Pilot did his thing. We now have a rich man that just

  483. so happens to have a grave nearby.

  484. But now, Jesus has to be prepared and on the scene comes

  485. Nicodemus. This is amazing to me and John

    John 19 chapter mention

  486. chapter 19 and verse 39. When Nicodemus shows up to

  487. prepare the body, he came with a hundred pounds of all of those

  488. fragrant spices. Now, incidentally, the reason

  489. for that, as when Lazarus died member, when Martha said, it's

  490. the, it's been four days for behold, he decays, he's already

  491. stinketh. The King James says, The reason

  492. for that, they didn't in ball. When somebody died, they

  493. prepared the body and buried them.

  494. It was time to prepare the body, they didn't embalm.

  495. They took the fragrant spices and that had to happen.

  496. Now watch this when Nicodemus brought 100 pounds.

  497. I think there's a reason why the Bible says how many pounds that

  498. were brought and how many pounds were used to prepare the body of

  499. Jesus. You know, why you and I read.

  500. Did you know the only time they used 100 pounds when they

  501. prepared a body? The only time is when they

  502. buried a king Crucified like a common Criminal.

  503. Grave to be assigned among Wicked, man, but he would be

  504. with the rich in his death sidestep gehenna.

  505. Buried like the king that he is. And went to the paradise of God.

  506. Now really, who's got the power? Who's really in control?

  507. Who's in control of everything that's happening.

  508. There's one more thing though that we have to notice and that

  509. is who was going to give the eyewitness testimony to the

  510. resurrection. Now, if it was one of the

  511. disciples, it could have perpetuated the lie.

  512. I actually have a sermon called the lie that proves the

  513. resurrection, okay? And we know about the LIE, look

  514. how brilliant God was. He didn't have one of those

  515. disciples being or Die. The apostles being the first

  516. hand eyewitness testimony, he had these precious courageous

  517. women that just couldn't stay away.

  518. They had to go back. And they gave eyewitness

  519. testimony to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  520. You know, I've wondered what it must have been for them for the

  521. rest of their life. When they finally realize that

  522. it was Jesus, they fell down at his feet and they grabbed this

  523. feet and they worshipped him. I wonder how it must have been

  524. for them for the rest of their life.

  525. Maybe they would have folks come up to them and say, tell us how

  526. it was. What was it?

  527. Like when you first saw the Lord the resurrected Christ for the

  528. rest of their life, these courageous women.

  529. Folks my point in all of this is that God was thoroughly in

  530. control of it all. My point in closing is this

  531. understand that God is Sovereign over everything.

  532. God is always in control. Even in our lives.

  533. He's always in control and make no mistake about it.

  534. Nothing will ever happen in life that God does not, at least

  535. allow. I didn't say God makes bad

  536. things happen to people. I did not say that I'm a say it

  537. again, but nothing happens in life.

  538. That God does not at least allow.

  539. He Sovereign over everything. Now, look at all the stuff that

  540. has to happen. Look at all the prophecies that

  541. have to be fulfilled. Here's my point, if God can take

  542. care of all of that and get all those moving parts and all those

  543. men in the direction that has to be to fulfill all those

  544. prophecies. Don't you think he can take care

  545. of your little stuff? Don't you think he can take care

  546. of our little stuff? He's always in control.

  547. But here's the point. To trust God, it's not a matter

  548. of bending God's will toward yours.

  549. It's a matter of bending your will toward his.

  550. It's a matter of putting your life.

  551. In God's hands in both Time and Eternity, that's what it's

  552. about. He's sovereign.

  553. Over everything. Buried in a rich man's tomb.

  554. The burial of Jesus Christ.
