  1. After healing two, Blind Men in Jericho.

  2. And pronouncing salvation for the household of Zacchaeus.

  3. Jesus continues, his final journey toward Jerusalem.

  4. The road between the two cities of Jericho and Jerusalem was

  5. always rough. And it was always rugged and

  6. very difficult. It was filled with Highwaymen.

  7. In fact, it was extremely dangerous, during less busy

  8. times of the year, you might remember that.

  9. The Jericho Road is the seeing or the setting that Jesus uses

  10. when it gives the parable of the Good Samaritan, and the distance

  11. between Jericho to Jerusalem is about Seventeen or eighteen

  12. hundred miles. It's I'm sorry, a 17 or 18 miles

  13. from Jericho to Jerusalem and it required walking uphill and a

  14. sending some 2,600 feet in altitude before reaching the

  15. Temple Mount. At this time of the year though,

  16. the roads were very crowded and people were headed to Jerusalem

  17. for the Passover. One of the three annual feasts

  18. under Judaism, some Scholars have suggested that the city

  19. swells to me. The two million people during

  20. the time of this feast. And if it is, as John MacArthur

  21. notes that there was one lamb offered for every 10 people,

  22. that would mean, there were more than 200 thousand Lambs that

  23. were killed during this Feast. But on this occasion, the juice

  24. failed to realize that each of these Lambs points to a single

  25. perfect sacrifice. The only one Lambs blood is

  26. going to matter is the blood of Jesus Is that year as John

    John 1 chapter mention

  27. chapter 1 and verse 29, says, as John, the Baptist sees Jesus

  28. coming and he says, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the

  29. sin of the world. Well Matthews narrative proceeds

  30. from the events at Jericho and goes directly to the triumphal

  31. entry now, tradition holds that it was on a Sunday.

  32. And I might say every single scholar that I read says that

  33. this day was, in fact, Sunday, one scholar said that it was on

  34. Monday and not Sunday and his rationale was, if we consider

  35. him to make his triumphal entry on Monday, it would eliminate.

  36. What is called today, dead Wednesday.

  37. In other words, we find things that are found on every single

  38. day, except Wednesday. If Jesus made his triumphal

  39. entry on Sunday. You know what I say to that big

  40. deal? Big deal his triumphal entry on

  41. Sunday. No doubt as tradition would

  42. assume, and just because nothing was recorded on Wednesday really

  43. makes no difference at all. All we know is tradition says

  44. that it was on Sunday, you know, it makes perfect sense.

  45. That it would be on Sunday. How many great events that we

  46. find in the Bible in the New Testament that was found on

  47. Sunday. We're going to find out that

  48. later on after Jesus was crucified.

  49. I'd that early on on Sunday morning the Lord's day, he rose

  50. from the dead. So we did that on the first day

  51. of the week or on Sunday, you remember that the very same day,

  52. just a little bit later, he meets with two disciples that

  53. were on there Emmaus Road, and he preaches a sermon to them,

  54. and he begins with Moses and the prophets and he preaches

  55. everything about himself. The first sermon preached after

  56. the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  57. Do you remember what those men? Said those men said, oh, didn't

  58. our hearts burn within us. When he showed us the scriptures

  59. along the way, that was a very important event that happened on

  60. Sunday. Later on that night, he meets

  61. with those disciples again. His disciples back in Jerusalem

  62. Thomas was not present and he preaches another sermon.

  63. And then what about eight days later, you know, Thomas was not

  64. there with the disciples when Jesus met with them in

  65. Jerusalem. The first time, the Bible says

  66. eight days later and the way that they counted days, they

  67. counted Sunday, they kind of the day you were on.

  68. For example, if I hold an eight-day meeting, it's Sunday

  69. to Sunday, you count the day, you began and the day that you

  70. end eight days. So, when the Bible says, eight

  71. days later, he meets again with his disciples and guess who's

  72. there that time? It wasn't.

  73. It was in fact, Thomas first day of the week on Sunday.

  74. Furthermore, we find that the church was established on the

  75. day of Pentecost, and that was on Sunday.

  76. So, just about every scholar, says that this particular event

  77. happened on, no doubt on Sunday. Also, if you can go to a Hebrew

  78. encyclopedia which I referenced you will also find and really

  79. everybody agreed with this, that this is an event that happened

  80. in the month of April. Now.

  81. Here's the problem. The problem wasn't where the

  82. discrepancy wasn't that day or the month.

  83. The discrepancy between Scholars was what was the year and we

  84. have said our whole life or I have that Jesus was crucified

  85. and AD 33 that the church was established in Jerusalem on the

  86. day of Pentecost and AD 33. I've shown you Church buildings

  87. in the Philippines and it says Church of Christ on the building

  88. and says established a d 33. But you can notice a variety of

  89. Scholars and you will find that some save based on that

  90. calendar, that it was a D30 While others said adye 33.

  91. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this, but I want to just

  92. say this, I have always believed.

  93. It was a t-33 I still believe that that it was a d 33 but it

  94. just give me a couple of minutes and I'm going to show you why

  95. I'm going to give you a reason why I believe it was a t-33.

  96. So if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But at least now I have a

  97. reason. Let me notice with you the

  98. following. There are seven Clues regarding

  99. the date of the crucifixion 7. Clues number one clue, it was

  100. during the high priesthood of Caiaphas, we know about that

  101. crumb, we know all about Caiaphas, right?

  102. He reigned from a d-18 to a d-36.

  103. So now we have a starting point. Let's go further.

  104. Let's go even more breaking down during the governorship of

  105. Pontius Pilate. Jesus was crucified.

  106. He served as Governor from 80 7:34 E36, narrowing it down even

  107. more. What else it was after the 15th

  108. year of Tiberius Caesar, which was in ad 29.

  109. Now, we're narrowing it down even more.

  110. What else do we know about the crucifixion?

  111. We know this that Jesus was crucified on Friday, it was the

  112. day of preparation. I'm not going to go deep into

  113. this. You've heard my sermon about

  114. that. At Paris Q&A is the day for

  115. Preparation. That's what the word is.

  116. And that word literally means the day before the Sabbath, it

  117. was such a well-known word, that it actually became a technical

  118. term for Friday. So we know that it was during

  119. the high priesthood of Caiaphas, it was during the governorship

  120. of Pontius Pilate it was after the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar

  121. and it has to be on a Friday. All right, here's the problem.

  122. There's a whole lot of Friday's between 80 2980 36.

  123. So this is a very special Friday.

  124. You know what? It was, it was a Friday at

  125. Passover. I read in a Hebrew encyclopedia

  126. this week that they call this day, Arab Shabbat, Arab Shabbat,

  127. you know what that means, that word actually means that phrase

  128. means the eve of the seventh. So it's on a Friday.

  129. What? Friday?

  130. It has to be on the eve of the Sabbath.

  131. It's Paris q a day. It's that Friday.

  132. Okay. Now, watch this, this is a list

  133. of all eight passover's that happened over the years between

  134. the years, eighty twenty nine and eighty 36, and the night

  135. that they begin. So remember this.

  136. This, if we're talking about when the Lord was crucified, it

  137. is the night that the Passover began, it has to be on Friday.

  138. And that's when it of the Sabbath of these eight years

  139. only to fell on Friday. So here's the two days.

  140. It's either April 7th 8030. Or it's April 3rd, a d 33.

  141. How can we know those are the two?

  142. How can we know? Well, first of all, there are

  143. three passover's of there were three passover's during the

  144. ministry of Jesus. Three of them, one was in the

  145. beginning. One was in the middle and one

  146. was at the end. Now, you know what that means?

  147. That means that the ministry of Jesus is at least 2 years long.

  148. Now we believe it to be about three and a half, but it's at

  149. least two years long now, remember just doing the math and

  150. counting the days. It was in the fifteenth year of

  151. Tiberius Caesar. That is a t29 has to be after

  152. that. Jesus has to be crucified after

  153. that, we find here that it Jesus's Ministry was at. 82

  154. years. 80, 29, 80 30. Guess what?

  155. The math doesn't add up. 80. 30s out.

  156. There's not enough years. What else?

  157. On Friday, April 3rd. 8033. But what about going a little

  158. bit further? The Bible says, a new in Luke's

  159. account that Jesus was crucified. and it was the third

  160. hour of the day that he was nailed to the cross as 9 a.m.

  161. At the sixth hour or noon. The Bible says it was Darkness

  162. over all the Earth. And at 3:00 Jesus said or the

  163. ninth hour, Jesus says to his father, it is finished and he

  164. said, father into thy hands. I commend my spirit.

  165. So Jesus died on Friday, April 3rd, 8033 at 3, p.m. the

  166. crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Now, I will tell you this.

  167. If Scholars are wrong about April about that day, I know

  168. they're not wrong about this because I read it in the Bible.

  169. I deferred to Scholars, I deferred to Jewish scholars in

  170. the Hebrew encyclopedia because that was the day of the

  171. Passover. All right, now that's when

  172. Passover began. But even if that is not the

  173. case, we know for a fact, it's on Paris q a day, it's Friday.

  174. We know it's the eve of the Sabbath.

  175. We know that it was at 3:00 and the years tell us and has to be

  176. a d 33. All right?

  177. Well as my father-in-law would say that's free, no charge on

  178. that, but I thought that was rather interesting.

  179. And if I'm going to keep Saying it's a t-33.

  180. I felt like I'd have a reason. I give you a reason.

  181. This is my reason. Okay, let's go back to 5 days.

  182. Let's go back to 5 days now, and when we do, we find Jesus

  183. triumphantly enters the city of Jerusalem.

  184. And as they came near, the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two

  185. disciples into a village. And he said these words saying

  186. to them go into the village opposite, you and immediately

  187. you will find a donkey tied and a A Colt with her loose them and

  188. bring them to me. Now it's not certain what

  189. village the Lord's talking about.

  190. For example, it could have been Bethany, it could have been.

  191. And by the way, how you pronounce the word, I'll just

  192. share it with you. The majority of Scholars say

  193. that the way to pronounce the name of this Village is

  194. bethphage. The majority of people say

  195. that's what it was, but I got to tell you, you can Google it and

  196. I'll give you a whole lot of sources.

  197. And I heard all manner of ideas, Beth fidge be Fades Beth pudgy,

  198. whatever it is. I'm going to go with bethphage

  199. because that was the majority of them, it could Have been Bethany

  200. and it could have been bethphage to go in and get a donkey.

  201. Now understand this though really what matters is Bethany

  202. bethphage and Gethsemane were all on the Mount of Olives and

  203. soon as they enter the village Jesus says this There's going to

  204. be a cult there. You're the word cult means comes

  205. from a word Poland and it means the young of any animal.

  206. So we understand that we understand by a cult know, all

  207. about cults. My question is though, have you

  208. ever wondered? Why a donkey?

  209. My donkey JW McGarvey says, numerous scripture references,

  210. show that the donkey was held in high esteem mation in the east.

  211. In fact, the sons of the judges use them David's.

  212. Mule for example, was used at the coronation of Solomon, look

  213. at Judges chapter 10. In verse 4.

    Judges 10 chapter mention

  214. Now, he has 30 sons, who rode on 30 donkeys, they also had 30

  215. towns which are called, Hey, Voth Jr to this day, which are

  216. in the land of Gilead. Another Passage.

  217. And there's really a point to this, stay with me on this first

  218. Kings one, and 33. The king also said to them, take

  219. with you the Servants of our Lord and have Solomon.

  220. My son Ride On My Own, mule interesting in the specific case

  221. of Jesus, here it is stated that no man had ever sat on the cult.

  222. If the cold had been used by men as one scholar said, it would

  223. have been unfit for sacred. Purposes.

  224. Let me give you a passage in the Old Testament in Numbers Chapter

    Numbers 19 chapter mention

  225. 19 and verse 2. This is the ordinance of the law

  226. which the Lord has commanded saying speak to the children of

  227. Israel that they bring you a red heifer without blemish in which

  228. there is no defect and on which a yolk has never come.

  229. Now, in other words, if a human had used it, it would have been

  230. unfit for that kind of use. In the same as with Jesus.

  231. But in addition to this theme, though of being unused, it

  232. wasn't foreign with Jesus The theme is echoed elsewhere in his

  233. life. He was obviously born of a

  234. virgin, he was buried in an unused tomb.

  235. So all of those things are certainly a common theme in the

  236. life of Jesus. But the main reason that that a

  237. donkey had to be used, is because it fulfilled Messianic

  238. prophecy in Zechariah Chapter 9 And verse 9, it says Rejoice

    Zechariah 9 chapter mention

  239. greatly o Daughter of Zion. Shout o, daughter of Jerusalem.

  240. Behold your king is coming to you.

  241. He is just and having salvation lowly and riding on a donkey on

  242. a Colt, the foal of a donkey. All right.

  243. The thrust of all this is that the king would come in.

  244. Peace to please. Hold that thought.

  245. Please hear what I just said and hold that thought.

  246. The king would come. In peace Zechariah.

  247. Also predicted that the coming of Zions king would be a

  248. glorious event, the people would rejoice and they would shout

  249. and, you know, that prediction really happened that happened on

  250. that day as Jesus enters Jerusalem.

  251. Unfortunately, the praise of men is short-lived and those voices

  252. that hail Victory are going to in just a few days.

  253. Say crucify him. Crucify him.

  254. Now, most people think about a donkey, as a humble Beast of

  255. Burden, I got to tell you, I have totally missed this point,

  256. all my life. I have totally missed the point

  257. of why Jesus rode a donkey. And if my mind is because of

  258. what most people do, we think about a donkey as a beast of

  259. burden, in other words, what donkeys do is they pull

  260. something? Or they pack something?

  261. No, nobody likes and what nobody wants to ride a donkey.

  262. By the way, I was around horses, my whole life.

  263. And, you know, you can't, we say you can't win the Kentucky Derby

  264. on the back of a donkey, just the way that it is.

  265. But in Palestine, at that time donkeys, I read were different.

  266. They were smaller in stature. They were strong and frame, they

  267. were quick and fast, and you know what else they look, better

  268. than the ugly looking donkeys. That we know today.

  269. There's nothing uglier than a mule.

  270. Quite different back then. And I always thought this to

  271. folks, I always thought this, I always thought that Jesus rode

  272. in on the back of a donkey as part of his humiliation, that's

  273. number one. I also thought that he wrote on

  274. the back of a donkey because he was going to be a king, and his

  275. kingdom is not going to be an Earthly Kingdom.

  276. Therefore, he would not ride in on a horse like an Earthly King,

  277. he would ride in on a donkey and that would distinguish his

  278. kingdom. From the kingdoms of the world,

  279. guess what? That is not true.

  280. That is not true. Do you know when a King Road to

  281. war? You know what he did?

  282. When a king went to war, you know, he did.

  283. He rode a horse. When he came came back and

  284. entered in peace. Amazing.

  285. He wrote a donkey. What the Lord was doing, is he

  286. was coming in? He was going to establish a

  287. kingdom. The Bible says it is a kingdom

  288. of Peace. In fact Jesus is our King we

  289. know that. But what is Jesus also called?

  290. He's called The Prince of Peace. So when Jesus wrote a donkey it

  291. was not part of his humiliation. He was coming and peace to

  292. establish a kingdom of Peace too.

  293. Okay, but here's the problem. In the Lord's poverty and the

  294. poverty of the disciples. He didn't have a donkey.

  295. So now we have to borrow one and so he's going to send them into

  296. a village, as the Bible says and he's going to offer some more

  297. instruction, he says this. And if anyone says anything to

  298. you, you shall say the Lord has need of them and immediately he

  299. will send them. Now, I got to tell you, I read a

  300. number of Scholars. You know what they say?

  301. They said they said we can't really know what he meant when

  302. he said Lord because there are various words in the English

  303. language that are from the original that are translated in

  304. the English language with many different names.

  305. For example, when Jesus was living many people called him,

  306. Lord, d-des Calais and it meant teacher master or Lord.

  307. So many times people call Jesus Lord, but they weren't calling

  308. him Lord, and Savior by saying, That.

  309. I don't think that has anything at all to do with this.

  310. Do you? This is not somebody calling the

  311. Lord. Anything this is the Lord

  312. referring to himself. And I think what he's saying is,

  313. when you go into a village and you untie the Koch and his

  314. mother. If somebody says what are you

  315. doing with him? You just say the Lord has need

  316. of them. Why not Jesus said, you tell me

  317. the Lord said, Further on that some Scholars said, this was a

  318. miracle. It was a miraculous event.

  319. Some Scholars said it was not a miracle but Jesus actually set

  320. it up in advance. some said that he didn't set it up in advance,

  321. it just shows his Supernatural knowledge, Really, it doesn't

  322. matter though and it's amazing. How many pages Scholars have

  323. written about. This very idea.

  324. All we know is, for sure, is whatever it was.

  325. The Lord said, this is what you tell them.

  326. This is the password, whatever you tell them, the Lord needs

  327. them. And by the way, the Lord was

  328. certainly capable of doing any of the three things that I said

  329. could have set it up. Could have been a miracle and

  330. certainly would have shown his Divine knowledge of everything.

  331. So, He says this and immediately, he will send them.

  332. You know what that means? That means that the Lord tells

  333. them, you go get the donkeys, you say the Lord needs him, but

  334. when he's done with them, they will be returned.

  335. That's what that phrase means. All right, let's go to Mark's

  336. account, Mark 11 and 6. And they spoke to them just as

  337. Jesus had commanded so they let them go.

  338. Verse 7. Then they brought the Colt to

  339. Jesus and they threw clothes on it and he sat on it.

  340. Now you're talking about a cult that has never been broken.

  341. You're talking about a cult. No one had ever sat on.

  342. So therefore there was never a saddle on the back of this coat.

  343. See, you know what the disciples do?

  344. The disciples make a makeshift saddle blanket if you will and

  345. they took their no doubt outer garments.

  346. The thin outer garment, the thin cloak.

  347. You've heard me talk about cloaks outer garments.

  348. No doubt. That's what they did.

  349. They took their outer garments like cloaks and they laid it on

  350. the back of this donkey for the Lord to sit on.

  351. Now, But in addition to that, I found it was very interesting.

  352. This is also a form of Royal homage using garments is the

  353. form of Royal almonds, plumber said this and points out, second

    2 Kings 9 chapter mention

  354. Kings, chapter 9, and verse 13 that each man hastened to take

  355. His Garment and put it under him on the top of the steps.

  356. And they blew trumpet saying, Jay who is King So, not only did

  357. it need a saddle and didn't have one.

  358. The garments were used for that purpose, but it also was a way

  359. of Royal homage to Jesus by doing that very thing.

  360. Luke's account says that they helped.

  361. Jesus get on the back of this donkey.

  362. Now, let's stay with marks account.

  363. What else did they do in Mark 11 and verse 8?

  364. And many spread their clothes on the road.

  365. And others cut down leafy branches from the trees and they

  366. spread them on the road picture. If you will, this Royal Caravan,

  367. there are those that left Galilee with Jesus and the 12.

  368. There were those that perhaps followed him after Jesus raised

  369. Lazarus from the dead in Bethany and then all of a sudden they're

  370. going to get there and you're going to have a mass number of

  371. people, a multitude of people Jews if you will, that had

  372. gathered for the purpose of the Passover.

  373. All kinds of people are there. Here's the problem though.

  374. The people expect the Lord to establish an Earthly Kingdom and

  375. to finally, put an end to their oppression and to do something

  376. about Rome. In that amazing.

  377. How many people were following Jesus?

  378. Not because Jesus performed Miracles.

  379. Not because Jesus, preached things, that no man had ever

  380. preached and speaking as one who has Authority, that they said

  381. the greatest man that ever lived.

  382. Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, the only one that lived his life

  383. in sinless Perfection. There were people that were

  384. following him not because they thought he was the Messiah from

  385. a spiritual standpoint, but they thought he was going to be the

  386. Messiah. From a physical standpoint, a

  387. national standpoint. And they thought that finally,

  388. Jesus was going to put it into their oppression.

  389. So, this is the picture. You got some of the crowd going

  390. in front of Jesus, you got some of the crowd following after

  391. Jesus, you got the great multitude that's already there

  392. at the Passover. And, you know what JW McGarvey

  393. said? He said this, the multitude was

  394. so large that their numbers enable them to spread a carpet

  395. of clothing. All the way from the top of

  396. Mount, Olivet to the gate of the city.

  397. Amazing. Amazing.

  398. Spreading their clothes. By the way, in the road is also

  399. a token of people's homage and respect in essence.

  400. They were saying we bow to your Authority.

  401. Now, this is why the religious World calls it Palm Sunday

  402. because of this. There were also those that took

  403. leafy branches. Now, they took leafy branches in

  404. John's account. It says that those leafy

  405. branches were palm branches. Now, interesting about that they

  406. came out with palm branches in their hands.

  407. As if to salute a king with symbols of Triumph, hence, the

  408. triumphal entry into Jerusalem that Jesus made.

  409. Now what our palm branches symbolic of I looked this up

  410. palm branches Historically were used as a symbol of the

  411. following, a symbol of Salvation, a symbol of national

  412. Victory and a symbol of Joy. So you got all this going on,

  413. people walking in front of Jesus, people following Jesus,

  414. you got all these coats, all this clothing on the on the

  415. ground as the road extended. And then, Here Comes people

  416. waving the branches. They're waving the palm

  417. branches. As a symbol of Salvation,

  418. National victory. And finally, with joy that

  419. someone's going to lead us away from oppression.

  420. The saddest thing is though is they were more interested in

  421. what Jesus could do for them politically.

  422. Then what he could do for them spiritually.

  423. Now when we go back to Matthews account, we find what happens

  424. next. Matthew's account will go to

  425. Matthew 21 and again, we're going back and forth between the

  426. accounts. But in Matthew, 21 and verse 9,

  427. then the multitudes who went before and those who followed

  428. cried out saying, Hosanna to the son of David blessed, is he who

  429. comes in the name of the Lord hosanna in the highest.

  430. Now first of all, the phrase son of David is a Messianic title,

  431. don't you remember in Matthew chapter 12?

    Matthew 12 chapter mention

  432. And also in Mark chapter 3, Jesus cast out a demon.

    Mark 3 chapter mention

  433. Remember what the multitude said as they looked upon.

  434. On it. They said, wait a minute is this

  435. the son of David meaning is this the Messiah?

  436. And we know what happens, we don't happens.

  437. They said, no, it's not the Messiah.

  438. He does this by the power of Beelzebub but the people said,

  439. isn't this the son of David? That's a Messianic title.

  440. All right but what is hosanna me?

  441. What do you think about when you think a Hosanna?

  442. I'm going to tell you what, I used to think I used to think

  443. when they said Hosanna, they were praising the Lord to the

  444. highest Not so. The word Hosanna means this, it

  445. is a Greek form of a Hebrew appeal, to God, for help.

  446. It is a great form of a Hebrew appeal for God, to help.

  447. In fact, it comes from the Hebrew phrase who Shia.

  448. Nah, and you know what that means?

  449. It actually means save. Now we pray or give victory.

  450. They weren't saying, oh, we praise you.

  451. Jesus, they were saying, give Victory.

  452. Jesus. And they were talking about

  453. National. Things.

  454. Now. I love this. because when all

  455. this was going on, when all of it was going on, The Pharisees

  456. were so irritated. That they tried to squelch the

  457. outcry. And in Luke's account, it tells

  458. us what Jesus said. Don't you love that?

  459. Jesus said these words in Luke, 19, and 14.

  460. I tell you. If they shall hold their peace.

  461. In other words, the people that are crying out Hosanna Hosanna

  462. and all that. He said the stones would

  463. immediately cry out. The Lord says, even the stones

  464. would cry out if they kept quiet.

  465. Pharisees were disgusted. They don't want any part of it.

  466. So the first time he says, he, they say hosanna, they say it

  467. like this Hosanna to the son of David, which was a Messianic

  468. title, but they take it a step further.

  469. Then they say, the next time, they say hosanna in the highest.

  470. You've got means in the highest. It means actually literally in

  471. the original Hosea in the heavens.

  472. That's what it means. Hosanna in the heavens.

  473. In other words, this is an appeal to God in heaven, to save

  474. and Bless the people. That's what they were saying.

  475. So I'll summarize it like this. Like I just said, a moment ago

  476. when they cried out Hosanna, that was not an acclamation.

  477. What's an acclamation? An exclamation is allowed and

  478. enthusiastic approval typically welcoming or honoring someone or

  479. something and for my whole life I thought that's what that

  480. meant. It's not an exclamation folks

  481. you know what it is. It's a prayer.

  482. It's a Hebrew prayer. This is what it means, and

  483. Hosanna is a Greek form of a Hebrew appeal for God to help

  484. saying save us. Now, We pray.

  485. But you don't, Lord knew all that the Lord has Supreme

  486. knowledge of everything he knew all about that, but he allows

  487. them to go right ahead and Shout the words that they're shouting

  488. because he is openly affirming his kingship, as the son of

  489. David. That brings us to verse 10 of

  490. Matthew 21. And when you come to Jerusalem,

  491. all the city was moved saying. Who is this?

  492. You know, Matthew takes his reader directly to Jesus grand

  493. entrance. But if you look at the other

  494. gospel accounts, there's more. If you look at the other gospel

  495. accounts, you find that Mark adds that Jesus came into the

  496. temple. Luke adds that just as he sees

  497. the city coming into view. He begins to weep.

  498. Take yourself back in your mind's eye to when Jesus sees

  499. the city. And he Weeps.

  500. As he comes to the top of Mount Olive's, to begin his final

  501. descent. A glorious view.

  502. Obviously meets his eyes. Before him lies the valley of

  503. Jehoshaphat and across the Kidron, a city with its Temple.

  504. Jutting up upward as one man said toward the heavens.

  505. No place on Earth is more holy and no, City more representative

  506. of God's relationship with man. It's a site that causes pilgrims

  507. heart to swell and pray with praise and pride.

  508. But Jesus sees it differently, knowing that in a few short

  509. years every Vestige of Jerusalem's Glory will be

  510. destroyed by Angry Rome and soon the light-hearted Babbling

  511. voices of Praise will be drowned in the blood of Slaughter.

  512. Yes, God's mighty nation, will fall because of her spiritual

  513. Decay. The temples massive stones, will

  514. crumble, and lie in silent ruin. The scene is too much for the

  515. Lord to bear. and so, with Divine love for Israel and the

  516. awful anticipation of things to come, He Weeps.

  517. Don't you see The Human Side of Jesus here?

  518. People in Jerusalem, under the Old Law.

  519. And those that had rejected. Jesus hated Jesus. when Jesus

  520. looks down on the valley of Jehoshaphat across the Kidron

  521. into the city, he looks at this Mighty powerful city, a city

  522. that once represented God's people and he weeps he weeps

  523. because of their spiritual Decay and they will be destroyed and

  524. that happened with the destruction of Jerusalem.

  525. And incidentally, when that happened with the destruction of

  526. Jerusalem Josephus said, 1.1 million Jews were killed,

  527. another hundred and ten thousand were taken captive.

  528. But then Josephus sis. That the soldiers of Rome pulled

  529. back, please get this. The soldiers of Rome pulled back

  530. and when they did every Christian got out Every

  531. Christian. But Jesus looks down upon

  532. Jerusalem and he Weeps. He Weeps.

  533. That's The Human Side of our savior.

  534. Then the Bible says, in verse 21 here that the city was moved.

  535. Interesting phrase here moved One scholar said, Robertson said

  536. it's the word that describes being shaken as by an

  537. earthquake. I'm going to tell you, Jesus was

  538. a boat rocker, he set this whole thing on edge, here he comes.

  539. And they were moved. And then they asked the

  540. question, well, who is this? And, you know, I would imagine

  541. that there's a lot of people that were there that thought

  542. about Jesus in different ways. But when they asked the

  543. question, who is this? The answer is in verse 11 and

  544. that is the multitude said this is Jesus, the prophet of

  545. Nazareth. Now that sounds good.

  546. Doesn't it prophet of Nazareth? What they're saying is they're

  547. saying they're giving him the credit for being a profit of His

  548. Wrath of Galilee but they are stopping short of proclaiming

  549. him as the Messiah, they're just not going to do it. some of the

  550. people there, surely believed he was the Messiah.

  551. Others that were there. Surely hope that he was and

  552. maybe still others didn't know. This is quite a day.

  553. Quite a day. If you look at the chronological

  554. sequence of this day, it's now late.

  555. And you got to go to Mark's account to find out what Jesus

  556. does. The Bible says that at the end

  557. of that long day, what a day it was, they left Bethany triumphal

  558. entry into Jerusalem but now it's the end of the day and

  559. Jesus goes to Bethany for the night.

  560. Goes back to Bethany. The next time we pick up our

  561. narrative though, guess what? It's Monday.

  562. It's 6 a.m. and the Lord is hungry and he's coming toward

  563. Jerusalem again. He's going to head that way to

  564. cleanse the temple. And on the way, he stumbles

  565. across a withered fig tree and he curses the tree, He goes into

  566. the Gates of Jerusalem and cleanses the temple.

  567. And then, he preaches a little sermon about the meaning of the

  568. withered fig tree. That's next, that's next.

  569. But today, this will suffice for our lesson.

  570. This is the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and we're so

  571. thankful. That Jesus was willing to head

  572. that direction. He knew all along, he knew

  573. everything that was going to happen.

  574. There are many powerful things that happen in a five-day span.

  575. And we want to talk about, Out those things in a series as we

  576. move forward. But today the triumphal entry
