  1. when Jesus asked those Pharisees, this question, Really

  2. the question is a masterpiece about the identity and nature of

  3. the Messiah? It occurs while those Pharisees

  4. were still assembled before him and we find that there's a mark

  5. shift now in what Jesus is saying, concerning his

  6. messiahship, for example, early on throughout his ministry.

  7. Jesus avoided open public Acclaim that he would be the

  8. Messiah, but now things are different.

  9. Now, things have changed in the last week of his life now You

  10. know the Pharisees as they would be listening to the question

  11. that Jesus would ask about the Messiah.

  12. They would have known that this was not an academic or

  13. theoretical inquiry but the Supreme question concerning his

  14. own person. Brought us raise an interesting

  15. point about asking this question and no doubt.

  16. Everything Jesus says was absolutely brilliant.

  17. Brought his said this about what Jesus says he said, Jesus is

  18. actually defending himself against the charges.

  19. Will be brought later to he on him in the week soon.

  20. He will stand before the Sanhedrin for saying he is the

  21. Christ. The son of God.

  22. Thus his question might be aimed at establishing the fact that

  23. the Messiah though descended from David cannot be just a mere

  24. man. So here's the question.

  25. Here's the passage before us. What do you think about the

  26. Christ? You know, I think that's a very

  27. relevant question. What do you think about the

  28. Christ? I think it's relevant today.

  29. To Jesus says, what do you think about the Christ and whose son

  30. is he? Now those two questions are

  31. these What do you think about the Christ and whose son is he?

  32. Now they're going to respond, they're going to say the son of

  33. David. Now, the question is this from

  34. what Jewish family line was? The Messiah going to come.

  35. Now, they all knew what the where the Messiah would come

  36. from. They all knew that it would be

  37. from the Royal lineage of David. In fact, every to understood

  38. that they knew that and we would come after that after that

  39. bloodline in In John chapter 7 verses 41 and 42 other said this

    John 7:41

  40. is the Christ but some said will the Christ come out of Galilee?

  41. Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed

  42. of David and from the town of Bethlehem where David was.

  43. Another passage Luke chapter 1 verses 31 and 32 and behold you

    Luke 1:31

  44. will conceive in your womb and bring forth a son and shall call

  45. his name. Jesus.

  46. He will be great and he will be called the son of the highest

  47. and the Lord God will give him the Throne of his father David.

  48. That's why they answered the way that they answered in chapter 22

  49. and verse 42. They said he is the son of

  50. David. Well, the question is this

  51. though? How will Israel then know which

  52. of David's descendants would be the Messiah if God did not give

  53. any other criteria? If it was just going to come

  54. from the Fleshly blood line of David, there were many men, that

  55. could have fallen into that category men like Solomon.

  56. What about him? What about Hezekiah?

  57. In other words, of all the men that followed, the fleshly

  58. bloodline of David, there's got to be another criteria.

  59. There's got to be something that's going to set that

  60. Messiah, apart from all other descendants of David.

  61. And the Lord is setting all this up, but Jesus not only fulfills

  62. the human criteria. He also fulfills the Divine

  63. criteria. Jesus is called the son of David

  64. and he is also the Son of God. Now he is the son of David.

  65. Meaning he meets the criteria of coming from the fleshly

  66. bloodline of David showing this. That is the humanity of Jesus

  67. Christ. Just like when the Bible says,

  68. 80 times in the Gospels, it calls Jesus, the son of man is

  69. talking about the Messiah is talking about the human part of

  70. the Messiah. He fulfills the Divine criteria

  71. in that, he is the Son of God. He is both, and Jesus is the

  72. Messiah because he fits all of that.

  73. He is both the son of David and he is also the Son of God.

  74. You know, what's interesting here, if you ever stopped to

  75. consider these passages, The Pharisees were ejected him as

  76. being the Messiah. No Doubt.

  77. But they seem to accept his human lineage.

  78. They never say that. He was not from the lineage of

  79. David. And you know it's very

  80. interesting. John MacArthur wrote this about

  81. this in his commentary on Matthew.

  82. I think it's interesting. He said it is therefore certain

  83. that the authorities had carefully checked Jesus

  84. genealogy and discovered that his descent from David was

  85. legitimate. Otherwise they would have simply

  86. exposed him as having no claim to davidic Heritage and all

  87. discussion about his possible. Messiahship would have ended.

  88. You know what I read, I read that before the destruction of

  89. Jerusalem in ad 70, they kept absolutely meticulous records

  90. regarding all of their lineage regarding their Heritage and you

  91. know, where was kept. It was kept in the temple.

  92. You know what that means? That means you don't have to go

  93. online and try to figure out where you came from, you know,

  94. that all that Heritage stuff today.

  95. Yeah. You don't even have to do that,

  96. you're a Jew. All you have to do is go to the

  97. records and the records were kept before ad 70.

  98. Before the destruction of Jerusalem, and they were kept

  99. meticulously right there in the temple.

  100. So no doubt, they didn't, they didn't doubt that Jesus would

  101. have fallen suit or falling into the Royal bloodline of David.

  102. They just recognized him being the Messiah.

  103. So, in verse 43, He said to them, how then does David in his

  104. Spirit. Call him Lord.

  105. Now what Jesus is going to do now is Jesus is going to

  106. reflect, he's going to quote in just a moment.

  107. He's going to make a direct quote, from Psalm 110, and verse

  108. number one. So what he's showing is this?

  109. Yes, David was the fleshly bloodline but he said this Jesus

  110. says how say to them does David? In the spirit inspired by the

  111. Holy Spirit, the psalmist, David call him Lord himself.

  112. How does he call him? Lord himself?

  113. David calls the Messiah, his Lord and such language can only

  114. intimate. One thing that David thinks the

  115. Messiah is greater than he is. That the Messiah is greater than

  116. David. But how can the Messiah, be both

  117. David's descendant and David's, Lord, at the same time, how can

  118. the, to be compatible? Unless the Messiah is God, man

  119. or God In the Flesh? No doubt.

  120. And that's the next verse. This is what David said, Dave,

  121. the Lord said to my Lord, Lord sit on my right hand until I

  122. make your enemies your footstool.

  123. You know, this is a direct quote, from Psalm 110 and burst

  124. of one And I gotta tell you the English reader looks to these

  125. two words here. Lord here.

  126. And Lord here, it may seem confusing but it's not confusing

  127. at all back. You know what they're different

  128. works. The first word.

  129. Lord here, there's Davis. Psalmist.

  130. David divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit.

  131. Psalm, 110 verse 1. He says the word Lord.

    Psalms 110:1

  132. That word is the Hebrew equivalent to the Hebrew word.

  133. Jehovah or Yahweh. That's the name of God.

  134. That's God's name. What he's saying is David is

  135. saying there's two people. There's two beings that are

  136. greater than I am. The first one is Lord being

  137. Yahweh or Jehovah. Ava.

  138. And incidentally, did you know that in the English translation?

  139. It renders the word, Lord, and all capitals.

  140. And there was a reason for that. The Jews felt like God's name

  141. was so great that they could not call him Jehovah.

  142. It could not call him Yahweh. They couldn't say his name.

  143. So, you know what they did. They called him Lord, all

  144. capitals. That's the first Lord.

  145. What about the second one? Do you remember?

  146. Hearing me, say, over the years? I know you've heard it cuz I say

  147. it a lot. When Jesus would talk to people

  148. in his personal Ministry and they call him Lord, like the

  149. scribes said, Lord, I will follow you anywhere you go.

  150. And you've heard me say over and over and over.

  151. That is not mean does not mean that they accepted him as Lord

  152. and Savior. It's the word d-des Kalos.

  153. It's a term of respect, but they're not saying he's the Lord

  154. and what that means is translated in three English

  155. words, Master teacher or Lord. Okay, that's not this word.

  156. This word is the name for Jesus. This word here is the word at An

  157. eye and it means Master. It means one above another, you

  158. know what David said, the psalmist.

  159. David in Psalm, 110 and verse 1. He said God said to Jesus sit on

  160. my right hand And Jesus would triumph over all of it over

  161. everything. Where's Jesus today.

  162. Oh, he's on the right hand of the Throne of God, he is sitting

  163. on his throne, he is reigning over his kingdom and the kingdom

  164. is the church, you know, it's going to happen when it's all

  165. over with. He's going to take the kingdom

  166. and hand it back over to Jehovah, Yahweh, God Of Heaven,

  167. God the Father. When it's all said and done.

  168. So, We're talking about. David.

  169. And David is not as great as Jesus, and Jesus being the

  170. descendant of David is still greater than David.

  171. But the question is this, how could the Messiah be David's

  172. son? And also be at the same time?

  173. Be David's Lord, if then David to Jesus says, if David then

  174. calls him Lord. How is he his son?

  175. Now it's incidentally here he doesn't save.

  176. How is the Messiah? David's Lord but he Saying, how

  177. is the Messiah, David's son, Jesus.

  178. Now, return to humanity of the Messiah.

  179. The Jews believe that the Messiah would come from the

  180. Royal bloodline of David. So, in other words, here's the

  181. problem. If David was in the flesh, then

  182. the Messiah would also be in the flesh and they didn't see past

  183. that at all. Do you remember when they came

  184. into Jerusalem? Do you remember when they did

  185. that? And they were on that long road

  186. into Jerusalem, perhaps coming from Jericho before the Passover

  187. You're stopped to consider, how many people were following Jesus

  188. because they thought he was going to establish Earthly

  189. Kingdom. Remember when Jesus was asked

  190. questions, like, when are you going to establish the kingdom?

  191. And, and where am I going to be in that Kingdom?

  192. Not understanding that? Jesus was not talking about a

  193. fleshly Earthly Kingdom, how many people follow Jesus?

  194. Because they thought the whole thing was going to be just a

  195. matter of In the Flesh that he would establish his kingdom in

  196. the flesh. Well, In Psalm 110 and verse 1,

  197. David called the Messiah, his Lord, he recognized the Messiah

  198. as deity. And the only way that Jesus or

  199. the Messiah can be both deity and man, Is if deity came from

  200. Heaven to be that. John 3:16 for God.

    John 3:16

  201. So loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that

  202. whosoever believeth on him. Should not perish, but have

  203. everlasting life. John chapter 1, says in the

    John 1 chapter mention

  204. beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word

  205. was God, the same was in the beginning with God, all things

  206. were made by him and without him was not anything made that was

  207. made. And in verse 14, it says and the

  208. word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his

  209. glory, the glory, as of the only begotten of the father full of

  210. grace and truth. Are you getting the point?

  211. They understood the fleshly lineage, but Jesus had to talk

  212. about deity. Now he had to talk about the

  213. deity part of the Messiah, and the only way that that can

  214. happen is when God, the son came from Heaven to be all of that.

  215. Now, I'm going to tell you, how many times did Jesus answer

  216. questions? And people stood there with

  217. their mouths open? Or stood there in dead silence,

  218. not saying a word. Just staring.

  219. Just staring, you know what happened?

  220. And no one was able to answer him a word nor from that day.

  221. Did anyone dare question him anymore?

  222. That is the ultimate, they had nothing to say.

  223. They had absolutely nothing to say one.

  224. Scholar said, the silence must have been deafening as the Lord.

  225. Spoke those words. Once again the young Rabbi From

  226. Galilee destroys all of their expectations about the Messiah

  227. destroyed it all And they were silent.

  228. But, you know, instead of submitting to the Divine word

  229. that the Lord was speaking, they just retreated in silence and I

  230. got to tell you that happens even today.

  231. That happens even today. People hear the truth of the

  232. word of God, but then they just do nothing and depart in

  233. silence. In other words, not being moved

  234. by the word of God. There they hear it but it

  235. doesn't change anything in their heart.

  236. Nothing at all. They hear what Jesus has done

  237. for the world for the sins of the world for their sins

  238. personally, but it has no effect.

  239. And they just go away in silence.

  240. I think that happens today a lot.

  241. Happened then to and we're not talking about ordinary, folks.

  242. We're talking about the religious elite were talking

  243. about the most religious people in the world.

  244. Know what they did said, nothing and left in silence.

  245. Matthew's account says this, no one asked any more questions as

  246. their own moral poverty have been exposed.

  247. Their professional incompetence was made manifest and now it was

  248. time to go and they rejected him and the rejection and silence

  249. was louder than words but to others, that were Present, their

  250. response was very different. I got to say this really quickly

  251. and I promise not spend a long time on.

  252. Just give me a minute. Remember, in John chapter 8,

    John 8 chapter mention

  253. when Jesus told the most religious people in the world

  254. they're going to die in their sins.

  255. He said where I'm going you can't go he said you're gonna

  256. die in your sins but they didn't get it.

  257. They didn't get it. What about the other people

  258. though? There were other people that

  259. were listening to that great sermon by the greatest preacher,

  260. the world ever knew and they believed it said, many others

  261. believed. So This is speaking to those

  262. people and the religious Elite, and they rejected Christ and

  263. Jesus says, you're not going to heaven, I'm going.

  264. You can die in your sins but others believed, guess?

  265. What? Same thing happened here.

  266. Look at this. Let's go to Mark's account.

  267. Now, I love this. Therefore, David himself, calls

  268. him, Lord, how is he his son? Now, the phrase common people

  269. can be misleading. If you look at the two words,

  270. common people in our English language.

  271. I'm going to tell you what went through my mind a little bit

  272. before I actually looked up the words, what went through my

  273. mind, I'm trying to think of maybe the.

  274. I don't know either. Not so smart, folks.

  275. Where they did not say wealthy folks.

  276. Are they just? I mean, what is it?

  277. Who falls into the category of common people to words in the

  278. original. And this is what it means.

  279. Translated common people in this translation.

  280. But it literally means this, it means a huge crowd or a great

  281. multitude. So Jesus is speaking to the

  282. Pharisees and they to return and they depart in silence.

  283. But when they heard a huge crowd, a great, great multitude,

  284. heard the word heard, the Lord gladly You know, at the end of

  285. his ministry was quite similar to the beginning of his

  286. ministry. When there were many, that would

  287. follow Jesus. Plumber said this, they like the

  288. freshness of the method and the skill in which he answered

  289. questions, they, perhaps enjoyed hearing the professional

  290. teachers routed, and some may have appreciated their spiritual

  291. strength of his instruction. So he's talking and guess what?

  292. Great multitudes are listening and they're hearing him, gladly

  293. and you know what? This is what he says, then.

  294. He said to them in his teaching that phrase means this in the

  295. course of his teaching, he said now get that It was a day of

  296. questions, he shut them all down Pharisees Sadducees herodians,

  297. scribes all of them, right? He keeps on preaching.

  298. He just kept on preaching and in the course of his teaching, you

  299. know what he said. Oh, by the way, beware of the

  300. scribes. Why would he say that Beware of

  301. the scribes, as he's preaching, this great sermon.

  302. He points out that outwardly, they're very different

  303. outwardly. They look important but

  304. inwardly, they're bankrupt their corrupt.

  305. And may, I say that if a p, if a person is or persons weighing

  306. his importance based upon his outer, garments the uniform, he

  307. wears the title that he has the name that he goes by, By

  308. whatever it is, that is very superficial.

  309. That is very artificial and true importance.

  310. Like one scholar said, can only be measured by a man's character

  311. character, determines your importance.

  312. I'm gonna tell you could be a person of character characters,

  313. everything and may I say character is tested when you're

  314. up against it. If you want to know what kind of

  315. character you have, if you're tested and you're up against it,

  316. that's the character that you have.

  317. That's you. That's me.

  318. These guys not so much not so much, these scribes, they were

  319. arrogant, selfish, insincere, and dishonest, and then Jesus

  320. list, six items that reveal evil tendencies in them.

  321. You know what, the first one was they desire to go around in Long

  322. robes, what's the big deal? Well, we know that outer

  323. garments were called tunics the Lord, for example, and his

  324. disciples they would have had a A shorter outer garment, then

  325. these long robes, in fact, that's what people wore, if

  326. you're a average person, regular guy, he wore a regular tunic.

  327. These guys they wanted to go around first of all with a

  328. desire to have a long robe, you know who wore the long robes,

  329. the ones that wore the long robes were Kings and Priests and

  330. the road went all the way to their feet.

  331. But notice it goes further, they desire to go around.

  332. You know what history tells us about them, they would go up and

  333. down the streets of Jerusalem like they're really somebody,

  334. you've seen somebody like that perhaps with the arrogance and

  335. conceit what in the world is think?

  336. They're really somebody. And usually people that really

  337. are somebody don't care if people think there's somebody

  338. they just know they are and character determines that and

  339. that's just what they are. Not these guys oh no they wanted

  340. to go around with these long roads.

  341. Looking like they're going to do something great.

  342. Look at me, I'm an important guy.

  343. And then Jesus goes further and he says this, they love long.

  344. Greetings in the marketplaces. Now, this doesn't mean they like

  345. to have people come up to him and say hello.

  346. In fact, greetings in the new King James is translated

  347. salutations in the Old King James.

  348. You know what it means? It didn't mean, hey, how you

  349. doing? Good to see you today.

  350. It met this long-winded worldly compliments, that's what that

  351. means. They went around with these long

  352. roads in Jerusalem, like they're really somebody and they want to

  353. belong compliments from other people.

  354. They want a different titles and phrases to, you know what they

  355. were. They were these.

  356. Rabbi. Redbone.

  357. I Abba. Now, there were times when Jesus

  358. was called, Rabbi, you're a rabbi was what's a rabbi, a

  359. rabbi is a Jewish scholar. That's a Jewish scholar Rabbi,

  360. they wanted that title. You know what else they wanted?

  361. They wanted this 12 and Jesus was called rabona.

  362. I rabboni literally means Master teacher.

  363. Now it's fitting that Jesus would be a scholar and it's

  364. fitting. That Jesus would be the master

  365. teacher. What about this?

  366. They even wanted that. Do you know what ABBA is?

  367. It is an intimate phrase or an intimate word for God?

  368. They even wanted that Jesus says, beware of those guys that

  369. go Oh around in these long robes they want to be called all this

  370. stuff in the marketplace, beware of them.

  371. But it gets worse. You know what else they wanted?

  372. They wanted the best seats in the synagogues.

  373. The best seats in the synagogues.

  374. You know, I read that the best seats in the synagogues were the

  375. chief seats. And it was a place where it was

  376. located at the Jerusalem end of the building, okay?

  377. And at the Jerusalem, end of the building, there was an elevated

  378. platform area. You know, who stood on the

  379. platform, the scripture reader or prayer leader.

  380. So where did they want to be? Now?

  381. Keep this in mind, they wanted to have this position.

  382. That means this, you got all the folks like you are right out

  383. there sitting in your seats looking toward the platform

  384. area. The elevated area for the

  385. scripture reader in prayer leader.

  386. Okay, you know where they wanted to be right here, right in front

  387. of it, right? With their backs against the

  388. platform and that was a picture or that was a place where you

  389. put the dignified people. Now I have to share something

  390. with you. In the Philippines.

  391. I don't like it. It's uncomfortable.

  392. And for 11 years. It's extremely uncomfortable.

  393. Every time, I don't like it, but out of respect because they

  394. consider the Americans that come with high esteem when we're

  395. really nothing and they want to put us in that same spot facing

  396. the audience. I got to tell you.

  397. It's so uncomfortable that I always turn my chair.

  398. I tried to turn my chair. So I'm looking at the speaker.

  399. It was Dawn that to that time, not me.

  400. I don't like sitting there. Okay, but there's a big

  401. difference. They want us to go there where

  402. the problem would be and we'd be guilty of the same thing as if

  403. me and Don come rolling into know what we want the best

  404. seats. Put us right here in the front.

  405. That's what they wanted. That's what they insisted on.

  406. By the way, I just say, say this as a, as a side with that, what

  407. I always try to do what we try to do is get the Filipinos to go

  408. with us and I'll sit up there. If they go with us, I'll do

  409. that. I know problem with that, if

  410. they go with us but that's just their way of showing respect.

  411. Okay. That's a big difference in

  412. somebody demanding it, what else, how about this?

  413. How about the best places in the feast?

  414. This is a place of honor at Banquets, in fact, that phrase

  415. the places is Better translated Chief couches and it's talking

  416. about this. Edersheim said this enter Sean

  417. said according to the talmud, the chief guest lay in the

  418. middle if there were three on a couch, if there were two, he lay

  419. on the right side of the couch, Now you're talking about the

  420. best seat, the best one. reclined with the, the person

  421. that did the inviting And you know what they wanted?

  422. They wanted the best seat. You know, James talks about

  423. about that. He said don't do this.

  424. Don't ever assign the best seat to the rich and leave some poor

  425. man on the floor. He condemned that.

  426. These scribes, you know, they did they demanded and wanted the

  427. best places so what do they do? They came in, they wanted the

  428. long robes. Look at me, look at me, look at

  429. me, they wanted the title and the great greetings and

  430. salutations they wanted that too.

  431. They wanted to have the best seats, they wanted all the

  432. greatest names. They wanted to go to the best,

  433. the feast and have all this respect shown their way they

  434. wanted all that. I'm going to tell you that's bad

  435. enough but it doesn't stop there.

  436. That's not the worst part all, that's bad enough.

  437. But the lowest just getting started.

  438. In fact, in Mark, chapter 12 and verse 40, you know what they

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  439. did. And I got to tell you, this is

  440. awful, they devour widows houses.

  441. They devoured widows houses. You know, no doubt there was

  442. women in the ministry of Jesus. That listen to his teaching and

  443. follow Jesus and wanted to minister to him or serve him in

  444. some way. There's no doubt in my mind.

  445. That's exactly what they did for Jesus.

  446. But there's also no doubt in my mind that they did that for the

  447. scribes to just maybe I'm going to tell you something right now.

  448. It's one thing to take advantage of somebody. and I know I'm

  449. giving degrees here and I shouldn't but it is another

  450. thing when you take advantage of a widow, A poor little lady.

  451. And you take what's hearse? The scribes exploited their

  452. generosity. In fact, widows are especially

  453. targeted by the scribes Jesus does not explain specifically

  454. how this is done. But in some way, the scribes

  455. take advantage of these poor women and robbed them of their

  456. support. And notice and for a pretence,

  457. make long prayers. For a pretense for a show.

  458. They offer long prayers. They pretended to pray long time

  459. in order to gain influence over religious people.

  460. I got to tell you something about long prayers, there's

  461. nothing wrong with the long prayer, okay, nothing wrong with

  462. that at all. When you pray from your heart

  463. and you pray a long prayer, there's nothing wrong with that.

  464. But the Jews back then and these specific scribes.

  465. This is what they believed and plumber said this.

  466. There was a rabbinical Saying that long prayers make for a

  467. long life. Now when Jesus condemned long

  468. prayers of the Pharisees, he was talking about men that wanted to

  469. hear themself. They want to be known for their

  470. much speaking, and they wanted to hear themselves talk. may I

  471. just say a little thing here at and that's when we prayed the

  472. public prayer. When the man's praise for the

  473. congregation in the assembly, we are praying for everybody.

  474. So we need things that are applicable for everybody, okay?

  475. And we don't have to pray and especially long prayer.

  476. You can just pray and get things covered and pray from the heart,

  477. okay? A longer prayer does not mean a

  478. better prayer. You know what they were doing,

  479. though? Jesus put it all together.

  480. Jesus said, they devoured widows houses and as a pretense

  481. pretended to You get all the influence by pretending to pray

  482. these long heartfelt prayers. Now.

  483. The Amplified version. Renders it like this and I think

  484. it's really true. I think these two things are

  485. connected. I think the devouring widows

  486. houses and making the long prayers are connected.

  487. The Amplified Bible says that this way Who devour widows

  488. houses and to cover it up. They make long prayers about

  489. that. How about that?

  490. You know what? Jesus says, not to tell you.

  491. I had to really think about this.

  492. I had to really study this, okay?

  493. I really have to study this Jesus is going to sum it all up.

  494. And if you look at the verse, you know what's coming, what

  495. does he mean? All of these are going to do all

  496. of this. They're going to receive greater

  497. condemnation. Okay?

  498. Now what does that mean? Does that mean that there's a

  499. special spot in hell that is hotter than another spot?

  500. No. No.

  501. Does it mean that there is a secondary or even a worse place

  502. for the really bad people? No, we know that there is only

  503. one Lake of Fire. We know that and if a person is

  504. lost their lost and there's only one Lake of Fire even though I

  505. have said when somebody does something really bad to

  506. somebody, I've even said it I confess, I said there must be a

  507. special spot in hell for a person like that.

  508. I've said that. Okay?

  509. I don't read any of that anywhere.

  510. You might say, no, wait a minute, preacher.

  511. Wait a minute, what is it mean? When the Bible says it's worse

  512. for someone that has been enlightened by the gospel has

  513. lived as they should for a time but have quit the church and

  514. gone back. The Bible says it's worse for

  515. them than somebody. That didn't know and they were

  516. just lost. Okay, what that means is this If

  517. I quit, if I quit. And I quit the church.

  518. And I go back to the world. And I am lost and I died in that

  519. loss condition. You know, why it's worse for me?

  520. Because I'm going to know for eternity.

  521. I didn't have to be there. I'm going to know for an

  522. eternity. That I had the truth and I

  523. turned back. And do you know what?

  524. I'm going to want more than anything in the world?

  525. One more day. Just give me one more.

  526. I'm going to get it right one. One more day.

  527. What's it mean? The greater condemnation.

  528. What's it talking about? Same, hell, same Lake of Fire

  529. same place, right? Okay, this is the best way that

  530. I can explain it. I hope it's clear.

  531. Receiving the greater condemnation, doesn't mean that

  532. the sentence is any worse than anybody else's sentence.

  533. It's in the same place. Okay.

  534. It's kind of like this though. Have you ever seen a judge

  535. sentenced, two men to the same sentence?

  536. Maybe one of them just fell into the three strikes Rule.

  537. Now they got life in prison maybe because of carelessness or

  538. whatever they did in the law states three strikes you're out

  539. now you got life whatever and they get the same sentence as

  540. some mass murderer creep. Still got life in prison, for

  541. example. What's the difference when the

  542. judge looks at that creep and tells them about what he did

  543. when he looks at him and says, it's worse for you.

  544. It's awful for you. Have you ever seen some one

  545. judge ball? Somebody out as their sentencing

  546. them? I have chew him out.

  547. You no-good rotten. I mean, he's not adding to the

  548. sentence. It is what it is.

  549. Its life. But that guy is getting the

  550. greater condemnation. In fact know what that word

  551. means. Word means this condemnation

  552. means it applies to the estimate that the Lord will place on the

  553. wrong Deeds of these men. In other words, they're going to

  554. be lost with all the others that are lost but the Lord in his

  555. estimation is going to put a greater emphasis on what they

  556. did. And by the way, Jesus will be

  557. the judge. That's the only thing that makes

  558. sense folks. That's the only thing that makes

  559. sense. These scribes were using the

  560. mask of religion to serve the devil.

  561. They were doing that. they were doing that by saying, They were

  562. taking advantage of those poor widows.

  563. And for a pretence, make long prayers by way of influence.

  564. And I'm going to tell you something, folks, there's a lot

  565. of people in the religious world that are taking advantage of

  566. people. It really is.

  567. I wonder how many widows today, I wonder how many widows send

  568. five dollars a month to some guy somewhere?

  569. I just wonder. Or ten dollars.

  570. And they get on their on TV, they pull at the heartstrings of

  571. these wonderful wonderful ladies.

  572. And they want to try to be a part of it so they send what

  573. they've got. All the while. for a pretense

  574. making long prayers, they take whatever they can get Jesus says

  575. there's greater, They will receive a greater estimate of

  576. what they've done and he calls it condemnation for doing just

  577. that. All right, I'm finished today.

  578. We are almost done with Tuesday, okay?

  579. We got a little bit left on Tuesday and then we'll progress

  580. through the rest of the week. Some powerful teaching.

  581. The Lord has made all the way through.
