  1. As an introduction. Let me just say that the history

  2. of David as the second king of Israel relative to his birth.

  3. His ancestry, his selection for office, his character and his

  4. achievement shows him to be a very distinguished type of Jesus

  5. Christ as king. This fact is strengthened in

  6. three ways. Number one, it is strengthened

  7. by Covenant. In second, Samuel chapter 7 and

  8. verses 11 and 12 the Bible. Bible says, and since the time

  9. that I commanded judges to be over My People, Israel and have

  10. caused me to rest from all thine enemies.

  11. Also, the Lord tell, if V, that he will make the in-house.

  12. And when thy days, be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy

  13. fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed

  14. out of thy bowels and I will establish his kingdom.

  15. Not only that, though, but it was also strengthened by

  16. prophecy. Found in Isaiah chapter 9,

    Isaiah 9 chapter mention

  17. beginning in verse 6, where the scripture says For unto us a

  18. child is born, unto us a son is given and the government shall

  19. be upon his shoulder. And his name Shall be Called

  20. wonderful, counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting, father,

  21. the Prince of Peace of the increase of his government and

  22. peace. There shall be no end upon his

  23. kingdom to order it. To establish it with judgment

  24. and with Justice from henceforth.

  25. Even forever, the Zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

  26. And as we noticed, just a moment ago in your hearing, as I read

  27. the text is found in Hosea, chapter 3 beginning in verse 4,

    Hosea 3 chapter mention

  28. I'll read that again for the children of Israel.

  29. Shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and

  30. without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an e phid,

  31. and without a tariff am afterward, shall the children of

  32. Israel return and seek the Lord, their God and David, their King

  33. and shall fear the lord, and his goodness in the latter days.

  34. Not only is it strengthened by Covenant and prophecy.

  35. But also by fulfillment, I wasn't here to here all the

  36. sermons that show. I preached on, on the kingdom.

  37. But when the kingdom was established, when the church was

  38. established in Jerusalem, when the very first gospel sermon was

  39. being preached, he may have even dealt with these very versus, I

  40. don't know. But in Acts chapter 2, this

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  41. shows its fulfillment. And beginning in verse 29, the

  42. Sure says, men and Brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the

  43. patriarch David for, he is both dead and buried.

  44. And his Sepulchre is with us unto this day, therefore, being

  45. a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him

  46. that have the fruit of his loins according to this flesh.

  47. He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne.

  48. He seeing this before. Spake of the resurrection of

  49. Christ that his soul was not left in Hell, neither his flesh

  50. did see corruption This Jesus hath God raised up where of we

  51. are all Witnesses. Therefore, being by the right

  52. hand of God, exalted and having received of the father that that

  53. he hath shed the promise of the Holy Ghost.

  54. He has shed forth this, which you now, see and hear.

  55. And finally, in one more verse in verse 36, therefore let all

  56. the house of Israel, know, assuredly that God hath made

  57. that same Jesus whom ye have crucified.

  58. Both Lord and Christ. I wanted to share with you the

  59. idea that when I wrote the question concerning David and

  60. Jesus being with similarities or points of contact or Jesus being

  61. a king like David, I enjoyed the study so much.

  62. I decided to write this sermon and hopefully it is helpful to

  63. you in some way. But the first thing I want to

  64. notice is that Jesus Christ was a king like, David, because

  65. David was from Bethlehem and first Sam Chapter 16 and verse

  66. 1, and we're going to get to the narrative that comes after this

  67. verse in just a minute on another point, I want to notice

  68. just verse 1. Now though, as we notice the

  69. fact that David was from Bethlehem and the Lord said unto

  70. Samuel, how long will that mourn for Saul seeing?

  71. I have rejected him from reigning over Israel, fill thine

  72. horn with oil and go. And I will send thee to Jesse

  73. the Bethlehem a'ight for. I have provided me a king among

  74. His sons, the ancient name for Bethlehem was Efrat or Ephrata,

  75. which is later called Bethlehem, meaning House of Bread, and

  76. because it was David's, patrimony, the New Testament

  77. speaks of it as the city of David in Luke Chapter 2, and

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  78. verse number 11. Now, Jesus Christ.

  79. Be our Lord being born in Bethlehem was not accidental.

  80. That is not just some coincidence.

  81. In fact, God sees He's the end with the beginning.

  82. You know, when we look at prophecy we see progressive

  83. revelation. We see things or God's will

  84. imparted to man overtime in bits and pieces and the prophets

  85. didn't have a full understanding of what God was instructing

  86. them, or what God was telling them to predict or to prophesy

  87. about. We know what all of that means.

  88. Now, what a blessing that is that we can open the scriptures

  89. and we can look to Shadow and substance, and type and any type

  90. and Understand, God's entire plan.

  91. But remember this, this is not accidental.

  92. God sees the end with the beginning me illustrate.

  93. It like this. If you were here last Lord's Day

  94. Terry, did an excellent job in teaching about the cup and

  95. teaching about one cup. But, you know, that was nothing

  96. new of the symbols. That would represent the

  97. communion service back under the law of Moses.

  98. We can go back and find that every single house would have a

  99. Asked over the house is symbolic of or representative of the

  100. church today. What did they have?

  101. Every single house had a Passover and when that would

  102. happen, they would have one lamb for one house if the house.

  103. And by the way, the house does not mean the building the house,

  104. means the household or the occupants in that house.

  105. The family if you will, the Bible would say that if the

  106. house was small, then a vision. Sure could come into the midst

  107. of them, but none of the Lamb could ever depart or go outside

  108. for anyone else and it was one lamb for one house.

  109. Today, we have one loaf of unleavened bread.

  110. On this table, we have one cup contained.

  111. Therein is the fruit of the vine on this table, we have the same

  112. thing that symbolized a lamb for a house, the Apostle Paul in

  113. writing to those at Corinth. What did he say?

  114. He said Jesus Christ is our Passover. /.

  115. And so today, we will commemorate his death, his

  116. burial, and his resurrection in the communion.

  117. Another thing to God, sees the end with the beginning.

  118. I believe this with all my heart, when they took the blood

  119. of the Lamb, it was placed in one basin.

  120. Accidental know, I think God always knew there'd be one cup

  121. on the Lord's table. The book birth of our Lord in

  122. the city of David was not accidental.

  123. In fact, as I just mentioned God sees the end with the beginning.

  124. Going back, seven hundred years before Jesus ever graced this

  125. world with his presence ever, came into this world 700 years

  126. before, that one of the Minor Prophets of God, one of the

  127. Twelve Minor Prophets by the name of Micah.

  128. He Foretold and Micah chapter 5, I believe in verse two, that

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  129. Jesus Christ would be from Bethlehem.

  130. Not accidental. God sees the end with the

  131. beginning, a point of contact is they were both from Bethlehem.

  132. But secondly, David was of the royal tribe of Judah.

  133. According to the story in the Book of Ruth Boaz of Bethlehem

  134. Judah, begat Obed, who begat Jesse, the father of David Ruth,

    Ruth 4 chapter mention

  135. chapter 4, and verses 21 and 22. So in other words of the

  136. Thousand people. Judah was the divinely selected

  137. tribe, among the 12 from which the Kings would come.

  138. Now going all the way back to the beginning of the Bible.

  139. In Genesis chapter 49 in verse 10.

    Genesis 49 chapter mention

  140. The scripture says, the scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor

  141. a lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh come.

  142. And unto him shall the Gathering of the people be, you know, this

  143. is one of the most outstanding passages of scripture in the

  144. Bible. When it pertains really, to

  145. Jesus Christ, who was a descendant of Judah, but notice

  146. with me some terms. Now the word scepter, the word

  147. scepter is defined as a stick. It is defined as a rod.

  148. It is also defined as a gavel. It is a description of somebody

  149. who would literally or figuratively.

  150. Hold the position of absolute Authority and hold the position

  151. of Final Authority and final judgment.

  152. For example, if you stand before a judge in the court of law and

  153. the judge says, you are guilty, and then he takes his gavel and

  154. he strikes it with a downward swing down on that table there,

  155. and he makes that noise that gives the final Authority or

  156. final judgment. No one is able to hold the gavel

  157. or execute that downward swing of it other than the judge.

  158. Also, So, the word Shiloh. The word Shiloh is a very

  159. interesting word because literally it means, rest,

  160. literally it means tranquil. It means peaceful notice Shiloh.

  161. Is also an epithet for messiah. So, what is he saying?

  162. He's talking about the Messiah, having the scepter or the gavel,

  163. the Messiah at some point in time, is going to have the

  164. absolute Authority and final judgment.

  165. Eat. Well, the story of a whole is

  166. this really the thought of this verse is that the son of Jacob

  167. called Judah will produce a tribe but that tribe will not

  168. produce the law of government for God's people for a while.

  169. That's going to be done through the tribe of Levi.

  170. And those laws would be administered through the law of

  171. Moses that will not be changed, until somebody comes.

  172. That is described as Low or the Messiah and then everything is

  173. going to change. And when that does this is the

  174. beauty of it all. Then God's not going to deal

  175. with the nation of Israel. Only as his people, it is the

  176. world Arrangement. It is for everyone.

  177. And the Bible says that all will be gathered unto him and not

  178. Moses. You know what?

  179. Also is an amazing thought here, if the word Shiloh means rest,

  180. Now, we know that Jesus Christ is the king.

  181. We know that Jesus Christ is raining now and he is reigning

  182. over his kingdom. The church is the Earthly

  183. institution of the Heavenly Kingdom.

  184. We are part of the kingdom of heaven right here on Earth.

  185. And when Jesus comes back, he that has final Authority and

  186. final judgment will take those that are his those members of

  187. his church and handed over to his father.

  188. And then Jesus Christ will step down his Reign and God will be

  189. all in all for all eternity. But Jesus Christ is raining now

  190. over the kingdom I said all that.

  191. I want to add one more point. If the word Shiloh means

  192. tranquil peaceful and so forth and we know that he's the one

  193. that's the Messiah that goes hand-in-hand with a passage that

  194. Jesus said when Jesus says come unto me all ye that labor and

  195. are heavy laden. Aidan.

  196. And I will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me

  197. for. I am meek and lowly at heart and

  198. you shall find rest unto your souls.

  199. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light, not only is the

  200. same person Shiloh that's going to hold the gavel is going to

  201. execute final judgment. He's also the one that gives

  202. rest he's the one that gives peace.

  203. When you see a child of God that has lived their life, all their

  204. life, faithful unto death. There's a peace that comes over

  205. that person at the end of their life because they know that they

  206. have rest in Jesus. They know that they have Rest In

  207. Christ. Having those wonderful

  208. characteristics and qualities that the Lord has and we submit

  209. ourselves to him. We have those things in this

  210. life regardless of whatever the circumstances, maybe that come

  211. our way. What a blessing that is one more

  212. point about these two dispensations of time, a person

  213. was governed by the laws, in other words, whatever,

  214. dispensation that a person lived under, they were governed by the

  215. laws of that. Dispensation, for example, if

  216. somebody lived under the law of Moses, then they would be under

  217. the laws of that. Dispensation, they would be

  218. following the law of Moses. If they died before, Jesus

  219. Christ died on the cross. And before Jesus Christ,

  220. established his church, then the blood of Jesus would go

  221. backwards and cover. The sins of those that were

  222. faithful under the law of Moses, but if a person lived under the

  223. law of Moses, Of their life and all of those Jews.

  224. And we can look to the 3000 that were saved on the day of

  225. Pentecost when they were baptized into Christ.

  226. They were Jewish by Blood. So they live their whole life

  227. under the law of Moses under that dispensation of time.

  228. But the blood of Jesus Christ from the cross.

  229. Also ran for words and we contact that blood at baptism

  230. what I'm getting at. Is this, whatever dispensation

  231. of time that a man lives under he is to be subject to the law.

  232. Laws that govern that dispensation and this tribe of

  233. Levi administered through the law of Moses would be until

  234. Christ came the Messiah Shiloh bringing rest.

  235. And now Jesus Christ has final Authority and Jesus Christ will

  236. be the righteous judge. He will be the judge sitting on

  237. the throne. We will stand before the

  238. Judgment seat of Christ at sentencing day.

  239. You know, I don't believe there's going to be a whole lot

  240. said on the day of judgment, I may be wrong.

  241. We'll get there and maybe we'll talk about it later then if I

  242. am, but I'll tell you something. I think that it's a day of

  243. sentencing, I think it's a day of Separation.

  244. When the judge is going to pass down judgment, but the trial is

  245. not on the day of judgment. The trial is now in this life,

  246. I'm on trial right now at the end of my life, I'm either

  247. convicted or acquitted because I've either followed him or I

  248. have not And then, on the day of the Resurrection, that's the

  249. sentencing day, either acquitted, or guilty as charged

  250. and sentenced to a condemnation in hell.

  251. Well, the beauty of it is also is that when Jesus comes when he

  252. came all people will gather unto him and not Moses.

  253. David though was the first king of that tribe.

  254. Our Lord was also from the tribe of Judah.

  255. It is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah of which

  256. tribe. Moses spake, nothing concerning

  257. priesthood. Now, the fact that Jesus Christ

  258. was from Judah. And, by the way, God could have

  259. done anything that he wanted to do.

  260. God could have had none of these types and shadows, which were

  261. figures of things to come. He could have not done any of

  262. that if he didn't want to. God, could have not

  263. prophetically spoke of Jesus, in the word of God, if that's what

  264. he chose to do, we just know that he did, but the fact that

  265. he did, let's look at some of the rights that Jesus Christ has

  266. to the throne, first of all, because he was from the tribe of

  267. Judah, he had the tribal right to the Wrong.

  268. But what about Matthew, chapter 1 and verses 1 through 16 time

    Matthew 1 chapter mention

  269. will not permit us to go and read those names there.

  270. But here, we find that Jesus has the legal right to the throne to

  271. not only the tribal right? But the legal right now, Mary

  272. was the mother of Jesus. She was a virgin and the Bible

  273. says that that which was conceived in her was of the Holy

  274. Ghost, that signified or made the fact that God Is the father

  275. of Jesus Christ. Mary is his Earthly mother.

  276. Jesus did not have an Earthly father in the flesh.

  277. So we said all of that, but now will say this, he had the legal

  278. right to the throne to though, because Joseph, who was the

  279. Foster father of Jesus, he was also a descendant of David and

  280. therefore he could therefore by law, give Jesus the right to the

  281. throne. But not only the tribal right.

  282. The legal right? But also the rights by Blood and

  283. Luke chapter 3 verses 23 through 31, it shows his connection, his

    Luke 3:23–31

  284. blood connection with David by giving the ancestors of Mary

  285. Jesus had the tribal right to the throne.

  286. Jesus had the legal right to the throne and Jesus had the rights

  287. by Blood to be king on the throne.

  288. Thirdly though, Jesus Christ was a king like David because David

  289. was divinely. Chosen and anointed in first,

  290. Samuel chapter 16. Verses 1 through 13.

  291. I know, I know I mentioned to you just verse one a minute ago,

  292. but first of all, let me just say this, I puts all here to

  293. show the difference between Saul and David.

  294. Saul was the People's Choice. David was God's choice and the

  295. Bible would say In first Samuel chapter 16 beginning in verse 1

    1 Samuel 16 chapter mention

  296. now this is after Samuel had said to Saul that God had

  297. rejected him because it's better to obey than it is to sacrifice.

  298. And so God says Samuel, how long are you going to mourn for Saul

  299. seeing? I have rejected him from

  300. reigning over Israel. My people he said, what I want

  301. you to do is I want you to get up and I want you to fill your

  302. horn with oil and I want you to Go to the Bethlehem might Jesse

  303. by name for I have chosen. One of his sons.

  304. One of his sons is going to rain on the throne.

  305. Samuel basically says this. He said, if I do that and solve

  306. finds out He's going to kill me. And God says, what you do is you

  307. take a heifer and you say, you're going for the sacrifice

  308. and you invite Jesse and his sons and I will tell you which

  309. one of the sun's that I have chosen.

  310. And the Bible says, when they got there, they ask Samuel.

  311. Are you coming in peace? He says, yes, I have come in.

  312. Peace, we have come to sacrifice.

  313. And like God said, the sons of Jesse began to pass by or in

  314. front of Samuel, you know, they begin with the eldest son.

  315. The first son, that passes by. Is he liable?

  316. And the Bible says that Samuel looks on alya band.

  317. He says, surely I am looking at the anointed of God, but God

  318. said, no, I have not chosen him. And he said, Samuel don't look

  319. to the countenance of a man, and don't look to the stature of a

  320. man because God does not look at those things on the outward in

  321. the outward. Way God looks on the heart.

  322. So then abinadab walks by, and God says, I have not chosen him

  323. and then shama walks by. And God did not choose him and

  324. seven sons of Jesse pass before Samuel only to find that.

  325. Every single one of them was rejected in the eyes of God.

  326. So Samuel, knowing that God spoke those words at one of his

  327. sons would be king. So he asks, who else do you have

  328. any other Sons? I think it's beautiful just as

  329. well. Just the shepherd boy.

  330. Just a shepherd. Just the young one.

  331. The Keeper of the sheep at the picture of what Jesus is to us.

  332. He is the great Shepherd to. He's the Good Shepherd.

  333. We are his sheep. The Bible says that Samuel says,

  334. we will stay right here, and we will not even sit down until you

  335. get him and fetch him, and bring him before me.

  336. The Bible says that when he comes before him, God said,

  337. that's who I have chosen. And from that horny took the oil

  338. and he anointed him in the presence of his Brethren, that

  339. he was to be the one. I want to make one point.

  340. Remember when I just said, when Ally of passed by and God told

  341. Samuel don't look at the outward sign of, look at the

  342. countenance. Don't look at the stature of the

  343. man. God looks at the heart.

  344. Was he saying that you got to find an ugly one to be the king?

  345. Was he saying that you can't be good-looking and serve God?

  346. Was he saying that absolutely not, in fact, in the Old

  347. Testament, there are four man. You've heard me preach on this.

  348. There are four men that are considered handsome and built.

  349. Well, who are they? They were King Saul.

  350. That's number one. Number two, there was Joseph

  351. number three. A son of David Absalom whose

  352. hair was as black as the Raven's wing.

  353. And the fourth one. Was David?

  354. David wasn't ugly, man. David was a handsome man.

  355. The point is this, when the people look to Saul and Saul

  356. that he is shoulder stood and towered above everybody else.

  357. They said that's our King because he looks like the kings

  358. in the world. He's a big mighty, man.

  359. That's all God was saying. I look at the heart, he was

  360. anointed with oil before his Brethren.

  361. This should cause us to expect David to be a great king and

  362. also to Him as a proper type of Jesus Christ.

  363. Like David, Jesus was divinely. Chosen.

  364. Jesus was anointed through the prophet.

  365. Isaiah, God, spake of him as in Isaiah, 42 and verse 1.

  366. He spake of him as my chosen in whom my soul delighteth.

  367. You remember at the baptism of Jesus, at the Jordan, the Bible

  368. says that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit.

  369. And with power, he also is King after God's heart, expressed in

  370. the words, this is my beloved Son in whom I am.

  371. Well pleased, he was God's choice to but number for Jesus

  372. is a king like David because David was manifested or made

  373. known to Israel. In first Samuel chapter 17.

    1 Samuel 17 chapter mention

  374. You remember when the Philistines were in battle or

  375. the battle were set in Array against Israel.

  376. In the time will not permit us to go into all the Tales of that

  377. story. I'll just point out a couple of

  378. things. You remember that the People's

  379. Choice saw fled in Terror, not only that, but every single one

  380. of those in Israel, all of those in the Army and so forth.

  381. They all fled in Terror and the Bible says it on one mountain,

  382. was Israel on the other Mountain where the Philistines and the

  383. battlefield was down between them in the valley, what

  384. happened? Goliath, a Philistine giant, the

  385. champion of the Teens. Who some Scholars say was 9

  386. feet, 9 inches tall. Other Scholars said he was 10

  387. feet tall. It really doesn't make any

  388. difference. This is one great.

  389. Big man. And for 40 days, twice a day.

  390. He passed by the Battleground and he said, choose you a man

  391. for you. Choose you a man for you that

  392. would come and fight against me. And if he kills me we will be

  393. your servant. We will serve you, but if I

  394. Prevail over him and I killed him, then you will serve us, you

  395. will be our servants. No one.

  396. Wanted any part of this great Philistine Giant on the scene,

  397. though, comes a young boy, by the name of David.

  398. A Shepherd boy, he comes on the scene and he says, who is this

  399. uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the

  400. Living God. He tells King Saul King Saul

  401. says, you can't go against him. King Saul says, you're just a

  402. youth. You're our buddy Youth and he a

  403. man of war from his youth, but David says, let beinhart not

  404. fail because of him, thy servant will fight and the same God in

  405. heaven. That's the whole point.

  406. The same God in heaven, that delivered me from The Lion and

  407. the bear. That's the same one.

  408. That's going to deliver me. Now for the battle is the

  409. Lord's. And the Bible says, When the

  410. Philistines looked to David, he disdained him.

  411. Can you imagine the giant was wondering of all the people?

  412. You could have chosen. Is he the one?

  413. You know, I don't know if this is true.

  414. But I heard a scholar. One time, I heard somebody

  415. quote, a scholar one time so this is just free.

  416. But I heard that when it says that he was Ruddy in a fair

  417. countenance, didn't means that he probably didn't even shave

  418. yet. Now, I don't know if that's

  419. totally true but I do know this. He was young in his face.

  420. And the Philistines look to whom Israel had Chosen and he

  421. disdained him and he says I'm going to feed your carcass to

  422. the dogs or however he said it, and when he said that, and when

  423. Goliath started to proceed against him, David runs on him

  424. from the pouch. He took one of those five smooth

  425. Stones. He took that sling and he slung

  426. it and it struck the Philistine in the forehead, so great.

  427. It embedded itself in the forehead of that Philistine.

  428. And down he goes and David goes over to the Osteen and he grabs

  429. his sword. I've tried to Picture This.

  430. Maybe just rips it out of its sheath, I don't know and he

  431. takes it may be over his head like this, with a downward blow,

  432. he cuts the head off of the Philistine, Giant When that

  433. happened, David was announced as the champion among God's people

  434. and the champion among God's cause he was announced as the

  435. champion. In fact, when they came back

  436. from the battle, so loved him, everything was great.

  437. This young man really stepped up.

  438. And he was fine until they came back from a battle against the

  439. Philistines that there were victorious over and the women

  440. came out in the women played the women sang, the women danced.

  441. And they said Saul has killed his thousands.

  442. But David his ten thousands. He was revealed to Israel.

  443. Truly, in a remarkable way. Jesus in like manner was also

  444. made known in a remarkable way. It took place at his baptism in

  445. the Jordan River. John the Baptist said of him, I

  446. knew him. Not but that he should be made

  447. manifest to Israel for this cause came I baptizing in water

  448. on that occasion. Jesus was pointed out as the

  449. Messiah, by The Descent of the Holy Spirit, upon him in the

  450. form of a dove. And the voice of God, who said

  451. this is my beloved Son in whom I am.

  452. Well pleased. Let's go for forward.

  453. A number of chapters, though, to Matthew chapter 17.

    Matthew 17 chapter mention

  454. This is after Peter had said And Jesus had said, I'm a build my

  455. church on the statement of fact, that thou art the Christ, the

  456. son of the Living, God, by the 17th chapter on the Mount of

  457. transfiguration, Peter, James, and John are there.

  458. And you remember, also, that Moses and Elijah appear, and the

  459. only reason I believe that they were there is to show that Jesus

  460. Christ was the Fulfillment of both the law and the prophets.

  461. He fulfilled it all as Jesus says, I did not come to destroy,

  462. but to fulfill Matthew 5 and 17. Well, Peters overcome by this

  463. emotional experience. And he says, I got a great idea.

  464. We need to build three Tabernacles naturally one for

  465. you. Jesus one for Moses and one for

  466. Elijah. What did God do?

  467. God made known once again, he made known to those, that were

  468. there, present, who their focus needs to be on.

  469. As he said, when he came from the Waters of the Jordan.

  470. He said, this is my beloved Son in whom I'm well pleased when

  471. The Descent of the Holy Spirit and the Dove came down upon him.

  472. He received the Holy Spirit without measure will in Matthew.

    Matthew 17 chapter mention

  473. Chapter 17, he reiterates. That fact.

  474. And he says no, this is my beloved Son in whom I'm well

  475. pleased hear, ye him. From his baptism though, from

  476. that point forward, he was known as the anointed of God.

  477. Whose will he came to do? Number 5, Jesus was a king like

  478. David because David was tested and David was approved because

  479. of Saul's insane and murderous jealousy.

  480. David was forced to flee for his life.

  481. You remember those period of years and Exile in fur and

  482. that's found in first Samuel, the 18th to the 30th chapters.

  483. He's in Exile he is running for his life.

  484. But you know during that period of time he was tried He was

  485. tested and he was prepared to sit on the throne.

  486. You know, you never know what circumstances and this life, I

  487. don't know how God works in all the ways that he works.

  488. His thoughts are so much higher than ours.

  489. I don't know about that, but I do know that sometimes things

  490. that we go through in life that we have to endure many times.

  491. Those of the things that prepare us for something in the future.

  492. I'm not saying that this was divinely appointed but I'll just

  493. use this as an example. I do believe that all the years

  494. of going to Ventura over 12 years of driving to Ventura.

  495. I think that had a little bit to do with helping me in my life.

  496. With people as a preacher. I think that sometimes

  497. circumstances in life and sacrifices that we make those

  498. things, I'm not saying there divinely appointed, I'm just

  499. saying that. Sometimes those are things that

  500. prepare us for things down the road.

  501. Now, who would have thought this was going to be the king and

  502. yet, he's in Exile from first Samuel, the 18th of the

  503. thirtieth chapter, he's running for his life.

  504. Saul is out to kill him daily. He was being prepared for the

  505. throne. During this time he puts his

  506. trust totally in God. He developed a character of

  507. patient waiting for God's Own time and suffering every insult

  508. and indignity and he did so without retaliation you.

  509. Remember one time. Now this was his enemy, he had

  510. an opportunity to kill Saul. You know what, he said, he says,

  511. who am I to take the life or to slay or to kill the anointed of

  512. God? He had an opportunity to remove

  513. his enemy yet. No retaliation.

  514. The Relentless armies of King Saul were out to get him daily.

  515. No retaliation. What A Hard Road to travel.

  516. To the throne Jesus. Our King was in like manner

  517. tested and approved for over three years in a personal

  518. Ministry, he lived a life of hardship and a life of

  519. humiliating experiences yet the Bible says he was tempted in all

  520. points like as we are yet without sin.

  521. I'm going to tell you something. Have you ever thought about that

  522. in all points? Like, as we are.

  523. That means that temptations that I've had in my life.

  524. By the way, Temptation doesn't mean sin giving in to the

  525. Temptation. Is the sin.

  526. The Temptation is going to be there.

  527. And James, 4:7 says, what we do. When the Temptation comes, we

  528. submit our self therefore unto God, we resist the devil and he

  529. will flee from us. But Satan is doing the tempting,

  530. not God. But when we look at that phrase

  531. that Jesus was in all points tempted like as we are that

  532. means that whatever Temptation that man has Even today he was

  533. tempted in like manner. The difference was, he was yet

  534. without sin and he did that for 33 years or so.

  535. But for three years, he was persecuted for three years.

  536. He had nowhere to lay his head. For three years, he was

  537. rejected. For three years, he was

  538. criticized and threatened yet with no retaliation.

  539. He did not retaliate at all. He was hounded by rulers of the

  540. Jews who sought his life, John 7 and verse 1 yet, he did not

  541. retaliate, he walked away from them, Luke for 29 and 30.

  542. And during this time he liked David, put his complete trust in

  543. God. So that he could say, I am not

  544. alone because the father is in me, Jesus was a Wanderer on the

  545. face of the Earth nowhere, to lay his head, Matthew 8, and

  546. verse 20 patiently, he endured all sort of and dignity and

  547. finally he laid down his life. And you know, the crown that he

  548. got was not the crown of the king.

  549. It was the crown of thorns. He was not given the position of

  550. Honor in this life as a king. No, they put a Scarlet robe on

  551. him with the crown of thorns pressed down on his head and

  552. they mocked him and they said hail King of the Jews.

  553. But Jesus is on his throne now. Jesus is on his throne over the

  554. Heavenly Kingdom and you and I are part of that if you're a

  555. member of the church, What a blessing, indeed, that is.

  556. When we look at Jesus life, we find that it was also a weary

  557. Road of suffering as he came to the throne.

  558. The Bible says, he learned obedience by the things in which

  559. he suffered see sometimes suffering is good for us.

  560. We always pray, remove the suffering, remove the suffering,

  561. remove the suffering, maybe we ought to ask for strength in the

  562. testing. Maybe we ought to act ask for

  563. strength to get through this that if it's not God's will to

  564. remove this from my life and I have to go through it then.

  565. So be it. I look forward to the person

  566. that I'm going to be on the other side of this temptation.

  567. This trial, this occurrence, whatever.

  568. He learned obedience by what by the things that he suffered, but

  569. number 6, Jesus was also a king like David because he had David

  570. had a reign of righteousness and a rain of Mercy, David executed

  571. Justice, and righteousness unto all his people.

  572. Second, Samuel chapter 8 and verse 14. 15, the quality of

  573. Mercy is well Illustrated in the morning for Saul and Jonathan.

  574. Now I said, Three already rejected, the idea, the notion

  575. that he should kill King Saul. He says know who am I to do

  576. that? To the anointed of God.

  577. But, you know, when he finds out that Saul and Jonathan, and

  578. Jonathan's brothers are all killed in battle.

  579. Remember what happens? What's amazing to me?

  580. I can see why David would mourn for Jonathan and I can see why

  581. David would write those words. Oh Jonathan Jonathan you have

  582. been there for me as I paraphrase.

  583. Your love is greater than the love of women of a woman.

  584. That's the bond that they had. I can see him morning for him.

  585. The Bible says he Mourns for Saul and not only that, not only

  586. that he instructs the daughters of Israel to mourn for Saul to

  587. How easy would it have been? Let's throw a party.

  588. He's finally out of the way. Not the anointed of God, though.

  589. And They Mourn for him. He showed Mercy in that he

  590. extended mercy and kindness to mephibosheth.

  591. Again, we won't go into that whole story but when

  592. mephibosheth was brought before David and he's falling down at

  593. his face right there before King, David, he thinks David is

  594. going to take his life because he knew that the custom was if

  595. there was any remaining from the household of the previous King

  596. that the new king would step in and the new king would kill

  597. every one of them. So any one of these other family

  598. members couldn't Up later and say that's our kingdom, where

  599. the king? That's what mephibosheth thinks

  600. going to happen by the way. That's why he's crippled.

  601. When King Saul died, and Jonathan died, a nurse picked

  602. him up and tried to carry mephibosheth off.

  603. I don't know how old he was. However, it was she drops him.

  604. He was lame and speak for the rest of his life.

  605. He's an exile, he's terrified. He's now before David and David

  606. says, get up Not only am I not going to kill you?

  607. I am going to Grant unto you all the lands of by father Saul.

  608. You know, my father saw that's a also sometimes used for

  609. grandfather and that's what he's talking about.

  610. I'm going to give you the lands of your grandfather King Saul.

  611. I'm going to restore it all back to you.

  612. And incidentally you remember when David finds out about

  613. mephibosheth he found out from a fibber Chef by a man named ziba

  614. and ziba was a servant of King Saul.

  615. You know what David does you want to talk about?

  616. Extending Mercy, not only does he give mephibosheth the lands

  617. but he makes ziba a former servant of King Saul and all of

  618. sybers sons to be those that keep the land for mephibosheth.

  619. But the greatest act of Mercy, kindness is when he said him a

  620. fish and you're going to eat at my table for the rest of your

  621. life. A Reign of righteousness and

  622. mercy, David extended. Righteousness, are extended

  623. Mercy to his rebellious, son, Absalom.

  624. That's hard to do, but he did. He continued on with his

  625. religious Zeal as well? He kept two prophets, he kept

  626. Nathan and Gad he kept to high priest zadok and abiathar.

  627. Heads of two rival, houses of Aaron First Chronicles, 24,

    1 Chronicles 24:1–6

  628. verses 1 through 6, Yet his constant Delight was, as he said

  629. in the 122nd, Psalm that I was glad.

  630. When they said to me, let us go into the house of the Lord.

  631. He was glad to go to the house of the Lord, A Reign of

  632. righteousness in all these matters.

  633. He was a fine model for his people like David's Reign.

  634. Our Lord is characterized by righteousness and mercy also

  635. only more so God said, if him a scepter of uprightness is the

  636. scepter of thy kingdom, thou Hast, loved righteousness and

  637. hated iniquity. Hebrews 1 and verses 8 and 9 in

  638. Matthew chapter 9. And verse 36 says, when he saw

    Matthew 9 chapter mention

  639. the multitudes, he was moved with compassion.

  640. When the woman in adultery was brought before him.

  641. You know what? Jesus Does He extends Mercy?

  642. Oh, he didn't say, leave her alone, let her stay in her sin.

  643. He extended. Mercy said he, who is without

  644. sin, throw the first stone and when they They couldn't and they

  645. all left. He said, neither do I condemn

  646. thee, go and sin? No more.

  647. You can't be saved if you stay in sin, Jesus said, go and sin.

  648. No more. But I'm going to tell you

  649. something, the greatest act of Mercy, can you imagine the Lamb

  650. of God is now on the cross? And for six hours, or so, he's

  651. hanging on the cross. And yet, all he can think of

  652. those enemies that nailed him there that spit in his face, to

  653. put the crown of thorns down on his head.

  654. He says, father forgive them for they know not what they do.

  655. A Reign of righteousness and mercy.

  656. His religious Zeal was manifested in his continual

  657. teaching and preaching his presence in the synagogue on the

  658. Sabbath and his cleansing the Temple and so forth.

  659. You know, that I want to make one point about that.

  660. Sometimes people think that Christians can't get angry?

  661. that Christians I'm talking about like maybe a world

  662. perception of what a Christian professing person ought to be

  663. that if a person ever gets mad that that's wrong in itself than

  664. a person can never be strong-willed or has to be timid

  665. and so forth and so on, Jesus was angry, Jesus overturned.

  666. The tables of the money changers and Jesus said it is written.

  667. My house shall be called The House of Prayer, but you have

  668. made it a den of Thieves. He was mad.

  669. The Bible doesn't say don't get mad.

  670. It says be angry and sin. Not let not the sun go down upon

  671. your wrath and either giving place to the devil.

  672. Now that's what happens. If you have anger and Malice in

  673. your heart, you are giving place to the devil.

  674. If you don't get rid of it. But the Bible never says, don't

  675. ever get mad. I'm going to tell you something.

  676. Jesus is rain, was one of Mercy, compassion, love, but religious

  677. Zeal to, and that tells me that I can stand underneath the

  678. earnestly contend for the Faith. With all the of every fiber of

  679. my being. I can even get Stern about that

  680. and still be merciful and have compassion and still be a

  681. Christian Bible, says be angry but sin, not Finally though.

  682. Jesus was a king like David because David was an Invincible

  683. Warrior. God said unto David.

  684. I will make the a great name like into the name of the great

  685. ones on the earth. Second Samuel 7 and verse 9 as a

  686. conqueror. His name has been divinely

  687. inscribed on the roster of the kings of Egypt, Assyria, Greece,

  688. and Rome when he became king over all Israel.

  689. The first place that he conquered was Jerusalem.

  690. Now he comes to the throne and he is reigning over Judah for

  691. seven years member that we studied about David 47.

  692. Years. But he was reigning over all

  693. Israel for 33 more years or a rain of a total of forty years.

  694. He lived to him to be about the age of 60.

  695. First thing he does though, when he's reigning over all Israel is

  696. goes to the place. The Battleground and conquers

  697. that part of Jerusalem that became also known as the city of

  698. David. As David's War began in

  699. Jerusalem. So did Jesus to Christ

  700. commissioned, his disciples to preach repentance, and remission

  701. of sins among his name, among all nations.

  702. Beginning at Jerusalem, Luke, 24, and 47.

  703. This remarkable story of the spiritual conquest of the city

  704. of the great king is recorded in the book of Acts.

  705. And listen, you know, it's amazing, you know, we've been

  706. studying on Wednesday, how many people were obeying the gospel.

  707. I'm going to the Philippines, Lord willing on the first of

  708. January, and the congregation here has been behind that work

  709. and that's been wonderful for us.

  710. All How many people obey the gospel when we're gone in the

  711. Philippines, spreading the word of God?

  712. And sometimes we look at those great numbers and we think that

  713. there's no hope what about us. What About Us?

  714. In ad 63. Thirty years after Jesus died on

  715. the cross thereabouts. Paul said, this about the gospel

  716. Paul said that the gospel was preached under are all creation

  717. under Heaven, Colossians chapter 1, and verse 23.

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  718. You know why? Because they followed the Great

  719. Commission, they went there for and taught or made Disciples of

  720. all Nations. They baptize them in the name of

  721. the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost.

  722. Then they taught them to observe all things whatsoever.

  723. Jesus had commanded them, that's what they did.

  724. They followed the pattern, shall I told me that he was?

  725. He mentioned those two disciples on the road to Emmaus on the

  726. morning of the day of the resurrection of Christ.

  727. One of them was Clea piss, the other, we don't know his name,

  728. but they're walking along or talking to Jesus. after Jesus

  729. opens up the scriptures to them with Moses the prophets and the

  730. Psalms They learn about the resurrection of Christ to the

  731. word of God. Before Jesus ever revealed

  732. himself to them. When they got to Emmaus, he

  733. reveals himself to him and Jesus was gone.

  734. You know, the first thing they said, Didn't our hearts burn

  735. within us. When he showed us opened unto

  736. us, the scriptures along the way.

  737. What they do. They immediately got up, they

  738. traveled, seven and three quarters of a mile back to

  739. Jerusalem at. Tell thee, tell those other

  740. disciples. What did they do?

  741. They heard the word of God? It was like, Jeremiah it burned

  742. in their heart, they couldn't be.

  743. Still they got up immediately and they shared it with those

  744. other disciples. That's the pattern.

  745. Have it burn in your heart. And go tell others, too.

  746. Well, Jesus Christ will press the battle until all Kings,

  747. shall fall down before him and all nations Shall Serve him.

  748. And like the type, God will make his son's name.

  749. Great his name will endure forever.

  750. His name shall be continual as the sun, Psalm 72 and 17 in

  751. conclusion, I'm finished. With the facts that we noticed

  752. before us today, we can see the typical significance of David.

  753. Among all the Old Testament Heroes, there is no person at

  754. all that's comparable to him and character or achievement.

  755. It is only in the New Testament that we find his counterpart, in

  756. the king of kings, and Lord of lords, who is now seated upon,

  757. David's Throne, according to promise, he's in heaven.

  758. Now, he's raining. Now, Jesus, Is a king like

  759. David. We thank you for listening to
