  1. I really thinking I realize those that know, me know, me

  2. this way. I think it's kind of my makeup

  3. in my nature but really I would be considered in today's

  4. vernacular as someone who is one of those glass is half-full

  5. people. So way I look at things, I'm I'm

  6. a fairly optimistic person. In fact, usually, I have to be

  7. proven wrong about somebody because usually I feel about

  8. them and give them the benefit of the doubt and see the

  9. positive first, and then over Our time.

  10. It may not be that way. But saying that, let me just say

  11. this. I really believe that with those

  12. that are the of the body of Christ.

  13. And when I say this, I don't mean this from a standpoint of

  14. 100% of the people. I'm saying by and large, for the

  15. most part, members of the body of Christ that are coming

  16. together and attempting on a regular basis to worship.

  17. God, I believe that those people for the most part, truly have a

  18. sincere desire. To serve God they truly want to

  19. live the Christian life. Now they don't always do that

  20. and sometimes they fail and sometimes they stumble because

  21. right alongside their desire to do, what's right?

  22. Is also the desire and all the elements in the world, similar

  23. things that Daryl pointed out in our sermon this morning.

  24. The point being is this. I do believe though that for the

  25. most part instead of looking at the body of Christ in all the

  26. members that Are part of it on oblique side or from the

  27. standpoint of a negative side. I really believe that the

  28. majority of members of the body of Christ, who are attempting to

  29. serve, God, and worship Him. Truly have a desire to be a

  30. Christian. That being said, also I think

  31. that there are the majority of people that are Christians

  32. living like that and having the desire to live as a Christian.

  33. I think that the majority of those people also are excited

  34. about the Lord and deep down. They have a tremendous desire to

  35. share the gospel of Christ with those that they come in contact

  36. with. But the problem is number one,

  37. sometimes in doing so they simply feel awkward.

  38. In their attempts to talk to others.

  39. Maybe that is you maybe you had a sincere desire to talk to a

  40. family member or a friend of yours about the Bible and about

  41. the Lord and so on and about the Lord's church.

  42. But you felt awkward and bringing up the conversation,

  43. maybe perhaps you tried to bring things up from time to time and

  44. it just didn't go very well or secondly, sometimes people

  45. simply don't know how to establish a contact with someone

  46. for a Bible study. And because of that many are

  47. caused to have frustrations and experience frustrations that

  48. discourage them from ever trying.

  49. Again my point this evening is this, perhaps you.

  50. And I can learn a little something from Jesus, the master

  51. teacher, the greatest one that ever lived and the greatest

  52. teacher as well. Who often engaged not only in

  53. public preaching, But in personal evangelism as well like

  54. for example in our text this evening in the fourth chapter of

  55. The Gospel according to John and as we observe Jesus in action,

  56. it is possible to glean seven different principles of personal

  57. evangelism that we would do very well to remember in our efforts

  58. to teach others. Number one, we find that one of

  59. the things that Jesus does is he first of all establishes, A

  60. social contact. It is important.

  61. Before we go any further with anyone, you cannot take the

  62. gospel to those that are lost. Before you have a contact with

  63. the people and notice we need to do as Jesus did and number one

  64. established a social contact. Now then in the first six verses

  65. of John chapter 4 beginning there in verse 1, notice these

    John 4 chapter mention

  66. words, notice what Jesus did on purpose.

  67. When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that

  68. Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, although

  69. Jesus himself. Baptized not but his disciples

  70. were. He left Judea and departed again

  71. into Galilee and he must needs go through Samaria.

  72. Then cometh, he to the city of Samaria, which is called sychar

  73. near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son.

  74. Joseph. Now Jacob's, Well, was there and

  75. Jesus. Therefore being wearied with his

  76. journey sat thus on the will and it was about the sixth hour.

  77. Very interesting, can you imagine a Jew by Blood purposely

  78. going to Samaria and having any kind of social contact?

  79. At all with a Samaritan, you know, a Samaritan was considered

  80. a mongrel race, among the Jews. It was a combination of a Jew

  81. and a gentile and that was simply something that you didn't

  82. do. And that was something that a

  83. Jew by Blood would have absolutely nothing to do with

  84. the Samaritan. You know, in the life of Jesus.

  85. And in the ministry of Jesus, there were many times when there

  86. were those, that would try to discredit him.

  87. There were those that would throw accusations at him.

  88. There were those that, when they heard and they witnessed the

  89. things that he preached, the things that he did, the

  90. following that he had that there were many, that would try to

  91. throw a wrench in the plan as it were and try to discredit.

  92. Jesus, somehow, someway. And many times, they said

  93. hurtful and hateful. And awful things to and about

  94. the Lord. But do you remember on one

  95. occasion? There was a time when those that

  96. were before him, we're trying to discredit him and they had

  97. exhausted everything possible. They can think about that was an

  98. awful name to cast before him or they couldn't think of anything

  99. worse than they've already said and when they exhausted every

  100. single one of them. They finally said, thou art a

  101. Samaritan and half a devil. Although it was an awful thing

  102. for a Jew to have anything to do with a Samaritan.

  103. And yet, Jesus purposely goes through Samaria and he has a

  104. contact socially with this woman.

  105. Jesus and his disciples chose to pass through Samaria.

  106. Assuring contact with them. There was another time you

  107. remember in the Book of Luke, the fifth chapter where Jesus is

  108. going to establish a social contact beginning there in, Luke

    Luke 5 chapter mention

  109. Chapter 5, and verse 29, and Levi, made him a great feast in

  110. his own house and there was a great company of publicans and

  111. of others that sat down with them.

  112. Now, notice Jesus Christ is the king of kings.

  113. He's the Lord of lords. He's the master teacher, he's

  114. the son of God and notice, he's going to use an occasion like

  115. this, where there were people, that would be Shattered, the

  116. lowest of the low there would be people there, like publicans Tax

  117. Collectors, who were extortioners and were the kind

  118. of people that no one had anything to do with that was any

  119. good though, their friends and their companions were the lowest

  120. of the low and even the Sinners as well, but notice what happens

  121. on this occasion but their scribes and Pharisees murmured

  122. against the disciples saying, why do you eat and drink with?

  123. Publicans and Sinners. And Jesus answering said unto

  124. them, they that are whole need, not a physician, but they that

  125. are sick. I came not to call the righteous

  126. but Sinners to repentance again. That was another occasion when

  127. Jesus chose a social contact on this regard.

  128. Now, what we're going to find out though and this is very,

  129. very important. There's a difference between

  130. having a social contact with Someone that is in the world,

  131. that is considered a sinner. And by the way, there is no

  132. degree of Sinner. A sinner is a sinner, and one

  133. that is living what they believed to be a moral life.

  134. But is not a member of the body of Christ because they've never

  135. contacted the blood of Jesus. They are still in their sins, so

  136. let's look at it from that standpoint, for just a moment,

  137. the world classifies. Here's a moral person, someone

  138. that doesn't use foul language. Image someone that is Darrell

  139. pointed out, loves his wife, and his family, he's active with his

  140. children, he's leading his family to the best that he knows

  141. how, but he is not a member of the body of Christ.

  142. He is in his sin, and there's no difference in the eyes of God.

  143. Between that gentleman right there, that's considered in

  144. society to be a moral, man, and one that is the vilest of all

  145. vial in the world. They're both Sinners, they're

  146. both in need of Salvation. Now, let me point this out.

  147. When Jesus ate with the publicans and the Sinners, he

  148. didn't do so to partake in their sinful practice.

  149. He didn't do it. He didn't do so to support their

  150. sinful ways. He did.

  151. So, so that he might have an opportunity to save them and you

  152. and I must have social contact with people that are The world

  153. that are considered morally good but still a sinner and those

  154. that are considered morally bad and still a sinner because we

  155. ought to go into all the world. The Bible says and preach the

  156. gospel to every creature. There's a difference though

  157. between partaking in their sin and we can never do that.

  158. We need to go where the people go.

  159. Let me read to you. What a man said?

  160. One time, I thought it was rather interesting and his

  161. assessment of evangelism and so on.

  162. He said, when we look out into society and we see that people

  163. aren't coming to Christ on a regular basis, maybe it's

  164. because we're not coming to the people.

  165. After all were to be Fishers of Men.

  166. And if we are to be a fisher of men, we cannot fish in a barrel,

  167. we have to go where the fish are and then he said, the problem

  168. was sowing the seed is not that there's not good ground to be

  169. found, but quite perhaps one of the greatest reasons.

  170. Why the furtherance of the Gospel does not show or bear

  171. more fruit is just maybe were leaving the seed in the barn.

  172. Interesting. You know, when we talk about

  173. going overseas and we go to poverty-stricken areas about

  174. their reception to the gospel. It's all true.

  175. It is true. They're receptive to the gospel.

  176. We preach the same message and so on and so forth.

  177. All I'm saying is this, let us never because I've heard members

  178. of the body of Christ say this, it's no use here.

  179. The only way we're going to grow as the church is to do so

  180. overseas to go into Foreign Fields and so on and so forth.

  181. When we do that, what we're doing is we are making a line

  182. here and say Saying we can't save Souls here anymore.

  183. We have to go there and maybe we're leaving the seed in the

  184. barn and let me just say this what if we only converted one

  185. person in an entire year? Now let me just say a few things

  186. about a little bit of History here over the last few years.

  187. There was a period of time in a short period of time that we as

  188. the members of plans Road working together by your

  189. influence and your contacts and And all of our sharing in the

  190. load and sharing in the labor, we either baptized or restored

  191. some 20, some over a two year period.

  192. But you know, all that is if you look at the law of averages over

  193. a string of time, it all pans out, it's not that all of a

  194. sudden the gospel seed was of no effect anymore.

  195. But let's just remember this. Let's remember when we don't see

  196. visible results that are before us, that encourage us and

  197. Inspire us. And incidentally, when we see

  198. results, it doesn't matter how tired you are.

  199. It doesn't matter what you must do.

  200. It gives you the charge and the energy to keep on going.

  201. What I'm saying, is this, let's take the seed of the Gospel to

  202. those that are lost and have the same enthusiasm behind it

  203. because it is the seed, it does have the power to To save and do

  204. our part and never say it can't be done anymore.

  205. People just aren't interested you know Wednesday evenings were

  206. studying about the long-suffering of God amazing

  207. principle. Amazing principle but think

  208. about it this way we know that this world is still standing

  209. because of the long-suffering of God.

  210. That's the only reason because God is being patient and I don't

  211. know. He'll call an end to that but he

  212. will like he did with Noah while the ark was a preparing.

  213. But then he called it down and he called a halt to it.

  214. But you think about it this way in this year.

  215. If someone obeys the gospel in this community and becomes a

  216. member of this congregation, look at it like that God's

  217. long-suffering was for them. The next year God's

  218. long-suffering was for them when they are members of the body of

  219. Christ that have turned their back and gone into the ways of

  220. the World. When they come back, just

  221. remember the long-suffering of God was for them to and even

  222. those that are still lost and not coming back, the patient

  223. long-suffering of God is waiting for them.

  224. And let's take the seed of the gospel and bring it out of the

  225. barn. I think it's important though

  226. that don't confuse separation with isolation.

  227. It is true that the Apostle Paul in 2nd Corinthians chapter 6,

  228. beginning there. In verse 14, it is true that he

  229. said this, he said be ye not unequally yoked together with

  230. unbelievers for what Fellowship hath righteousness with

  231. unrighteousness and what communion hath light with

  232. darkness and what Concord hath Christ with Belial or what part

  233. hath. He that believeth With an

  234. Infidel and what agreement hath the temple of God with Idols for

  235. you are the Temple of the Living.

  236. God as God had said, I will dwell in them and walk in them

  237. and I will be their God and they shall be my people.

  238. It is true that we are not to be unequally yoked together with

  239. unbelievers for sake of a better term.

  240. We walk to the beat of A Different Drummer.

  241. We have a different standard and therefore we need not have those

  242. kind of relationships. Whether it's in business or any

  243. other kind with those that are in the world and unbelievers.

  244. Now saying all that don't confuse separation with

  245. isolation, hear the prayer of Jesus in John chapter 17 you

    John 17 chapter mention

  246. know I think this is amazing because Jesus knowing exactly

  247. what his disciples were going to face and in his prayer, he prays

  248. like this beginning in verse Name of John chapter 17.

    John 17 chapter mention

  249. He said, I have given them Thy word and the world hath hated

  250. them because they are not of the world.

  251. Even as I am not of the world, there it is.

  252. That's not isolation. That is separation.

  253. What did he say? He said praying to his father,

  254. I've given my disciples your word and because of that the

  255. world hates them as they've hated.

  256. Me because they are not of the world as I am not of the world.

  257. So there it is. There is a separation there, but

  258. notice the very next verse Jesus said, I pray not that thou

  259. shouldst take them out of the world but that thou shouldst

  260. keep them from Evil. He doesn't pray that they'll be

  261. removed from the world. He prays that they'll be removed

  262. from Evil that they are not of the world even as I am not The

  263. world sanctify them, through thy truth.

  264. Thy word is truth as thou Hast sent me into the world even so

  265. have I also sent them into the world and for their sakes.

  266. I sanctify myself that they also might be Sanctified through the

  267. truth. Neither, pray, I for these

  268. alone. But for them also, which Shall

  269. Believe on me through their word, folks, that's talking to

  270. me and you 2x talking about someone down the stream of time.

  271. I'm that has obeyed the gospel and obeyed, the word that was

  272. left behind. And here it is.

  273. And that's me and you and the prayer of Jesus is exactly the

  274. same, not that will be removed from the world and isolated from

  275. it, but that we would be removed from evil, but we've been sent

  276. into the world, to preach the gospel of peace and First

    1 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  277. Corinthians chapter 5. Beginning in verse 9, the

  278. Apostle Paul also points out something that is Allure to this

  279. idea. Paul is drawing a distinction

  280. between people that are in the world with our relationship with

  281. them that are in sin and people that are in the church that are

  282. in sin. There's a difference and the

  283. Apostle Paul in dealing with a horrible condition that was in

  284. Corinth said this. Beginning in verse 9 of First

    1 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  285. Corinthians chapter 5, he said I wrote unto you in an epistle.

  286. Not to keep company with fornicators yet.

  287. Not altogether with the fornicators of the world or with

  288. the Covetous or extortioners, or with the idolaters for then

  289. must, ye needs go out of the world but now I have written

  290. unto you not to keep Company. If any man that is called a

  291. brother, be a fornicator, or Covetous, or an idolater, or a

  292. railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner with such an one,

  293. no! Not to eat.

  294. So, when he said, don't have company with fornicators, he's

  295. talking about the ones. It called themself a brother in

  296. Christ. And the reason for that, here's

  297. the reason because the number one purpose is to keep the

  298. church pure. And number two is so that they

  299. will repent and get their life. Right?

  300. And that's the reason, but the ones in the world, folks, we got

  301. to go save them. We've been sent out into the

  302. world with this charge to do that very thing.

  303. So separation does not mean isolation and withdrawing our

  304. self from those who have not obeyed the gospel or those that

  305. have not heard. The gospel is contrary to the

  306. will of the Lord opportunities for social contact happen.

  307. Every day we come in contact with people, every day, in

  308. school, in work, in our homes, our neighbors, our friends, our

  309. families. There is people that we can have

  310. social contacts with every day of our life.

  311. And we must make the effort to talk to them as best we can.

  312. But secondly From the example of Jesus, we find that once a

  313. social contact is made. Then we must figure out a way to

  314. establish a common interest, and that's Point number to a common

  315. interest. You know, I'll tell you

  316. something. It is true.

  317. That when we live in the world as Christians, it's really easy

  318. to think that we have nothing in common with people that are

  319. living in the world and it's real convenient to isolate our

  320. self and say that we're only going to hide in our houses or

  321. only going to be around Christians and nowhere else.

  322. Because we have nothing in common with folks in the world.

  323. I think we'd be surprised, how many things that we have In

  324. common, we must establish a common interest with them.

  325. And the reason for that is a common interest will build a

  326. bridge between two uncommon people, a common interest,

  327. builds a bridge between two uncommon.

  328. People. Notice in John chapter 4, back

    John 4 chapter mention

  329. to our text and beginning in verse number seven.

  330. Notice what happens there in verse 7.

  331. It says there cometh a woman. Of Samaria to draw water.

  332. Jesus saith unto her. Give me to drink for his

  333. disciples were gone away under the city to buy meat.

  334. So notice he makes the social contact and then he establishes

  335. a common interest with her. She came to dip and draw water

  336. and he was thirsty. So he began a conversation with

  337. her that was of a common interest and that was with

  338. regards to water. Realizing the need to build

  339. rapport having a meaningful dialogue, is not easy.

  340. And I think we all understand that to start and establish a

  341. meaningful dialogue with somebody is not always an easy

  342. task to do, but if you can build a bridge with a common interest,

  343. now, you may have a listener, you might think we'll wait a

  344. minute, what kind of a common interest?

  345. Let me ask you, this are their parents here in this audience

  346. tonight. Are their mothers and fathers

  347. here. Do you like your kids?

  348. What about Grandparents? Oh, grandparents, you ever see

  349. grandparents talk about their grandkids.

  350. You ever see grandparents, where little badges with the pictures

  351. of their grandchildren on them, you ever see.

  352. Grandparents go out there in the blistering sun, and a little

  353. umbrella. And a, and a lawn chair and

  354. watch their grandchild participate in some activity.

  355. Guess what? She sitting there next to other

  356. And parents and other parents as well.

  357. You'd be surprised how much we have in common with others in

  358. every single walk of our life. In everything we do, do you like

  359. sports? I do, you know, I get the

  360. conversation with somebody about sports almost every day that I

  361. didn't know before. That's a common interest.

  362. It's a common interest. What we're doing is we are

  363. building up equity in that relationship.

  364. We are building a bridge between us and we are building up a

  365. rapport because our desire is not to stop here at the common

  366. interest. Our desire is to go further from

  367. that point in time. But you know something else too.

  368. You'd be surprised how many people that you know that have

  369. gone through a tragedy that was similar to something that you

  370. have gone through. I'm not saying the exact same

  371. thing. I'm saying something that is

  372. similar and I'll tell you something, when you start

  373. talking about tragedies and things that pull on the heart,

  374. you start talking about sad things and you talk to somebody

  375. about that, you can have two people that are going this way

  376. completely in opposite directions.

  377. And then all of a sudden, A sudden you can get into a

  378. conversation, you made the social contact, you establish

  379. the common interest by sharing with them and listening to them,

  380. too. And all of a sudden, you have

  381. something in common barriers are down.

  382. Bridges are built and Rapport is being built up in that

  383. relationship. You know, I'll just tell you

  384. this, I got to admit something to you, I use it.

  385. I do, I really do. I'll use, I'll use whatever.

  386. I'll use whatever circumstance in my life, bad or good.

  387. If it's going to Draw Me Closer to someone else with a common

  388. interest. I think that's important that we

  389. do that. We need to care enough about

  390. them. Share something personal about

  391. yourself. I'll tell you something, you

  392. share something personal. Now, you're not preaching to

  393. them, you're not preaching at them.

  394. You're not preaching, you're all you're doing, is you are sharing

  395. with someone that I've had problems in my life too.

  396. I've had challenges, and you bear yourself to them.

  397. They do to you and all of a sudden, you no longer are just

  398. someone preaching, the Bible, you are a friend, and you have

  399. something in common, you have a common interest and you You can

  400. build on that, but we don't want to stay there.

  401. We want to move on from that, as Jesus.

  402. Did Jesus began with the common interest of water, but it's

  403. important that we arouse a spiritual interest.

  404. In our dealings with people, we want our common interest to turn

  405. into a spiritual interest. Look in verse 9.

  406. Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him.

  407. How is it? That thou being a Jew asketh

  408. drink of me, which him a woman of Samaria for the Jews have no

  409. dealings. With the Samaritans, notice she

  410. is looking at his example, before, he's going to speak

  411. about things that she was interested in spiritually.

  412. She That his action, she looked at his example based upon the

  413. common interest and all of a sudden he has a listener and she

  414. looks back to him and says, I'm a woman of Samaria and you're a

  415. man, that is a Jew. How is it that?

  416. Someone like you, that's a Jew, a man, a Jewish, man, like you

  417. would have anything to do with the Samaritan woman.

  418. You would have nothing to do after all.

  419. She reminds Jesus that At the Jews.

  420. In general, had nothing to do with the Samaritans.

  421. Oh, he has her attention. Why?

  422. Because of his actions to her. Oh, I'll tell you.

  423. That's interesting, isn't it that by action before he spoke

  424. spiritual words? His actions Drew her attention.

  425. You know what that tells me that tells me that every single good

  426. and kind deed. You do to anybody in the world.

  427. It's being noticed and it's being watched, you know, I think

  428. about the, I think about The Quiet Things, I think about the

  429. things that sometimes go unnoticed, I realized that it is

  430. true. I realized that someday the good

  431. things or the bad things, the things done in secret.

  432. God sees every one of them. And I know that when we do, Good

  433. things in this life that sometimes does not go noticed, I

  434. know that one day, we're going to hear those good things again.

  435. But all that being said, you never know the impact that you

  436. have for good on the life of someone that's in the world

  437. because of some kind deed that you did for them.

  438. I'm not talking about members of the church folks.

  439. I'm talking about people in the world and you go out of your way

  440. and you took your time and you took your effort and you did

  441. something for them. Listen, if they know that the

  442. reason you did it was because you're a Christian look at the

  443. influence that you might have in their life someday.

  444. Oh, Jesus established a spiritual interest because of

  445. his actions regarding our actions.

  446. We can arouse spiritual interest in that way as well by showing

  447. kindness and compassion to all those in the world.

  448. Even those that are evil and wicked by not harboring, racial

  449. or social prejudices. Those who are different than we

  450. are and by our own example of Faith and Hope.

  451. Do you remember on Wednesday nights when we studied first

  452. Peter? Do you remember when we talked

  453. about the idea that a two people were married and one obeys the

  454. gospel and it's the woman. Obviously, the woman's converted

  455. by the word, but the same word didn't convert the husband.

  456. What did Peter say? Peter said you live your life in

  457. your marriage relationship. Ation ship in the proper

  458. marriage relationship that you should have.

  459. According to what the Bible teaches that a woman is supposed

  460. to be with her husband. And just so happens that by your

  461. life, you may convert them because they know that the

  462. reason you are the wife, that you are and the person you are,

  463. is because you're a Christian You know, I'm going to pick on

  464. Ryan, he's not here tonight. But you know, Ryan has worked

  465. for me for years, we all know that and I can't tell you the

  466. number of times when people have come to me and said, I got to

  467. tell you something, the kids not perfect, but man, does he have

  468. your back? That's the most honest kid I've

  469. ever met. if the world knows that he does that because he's a

  470. Christian, He just has established possibly a spiritual

  471. interest in the life of someone else.

  472. If I as an employer or Terry as an employer or anyone treats,

  473. the people that are subordinate to their Authority in the proper

  474. way and they know that it's because you're a Christian, you

  475. have the spiritual interest. If it's possible to have it, you

  476. have it then. The Apostle Paul dealt with

  477. servants and Masters and so on, we don't have servants and

  478. Masters by way of slavery. But we do have employer and

  479. employee relationships. We do have those things that is

  480. a fact and I'll tell you something, folks, when we do

  481. those things by our actions, the world is watching.

  482. I know, I say it a lot and I don't care.

  483. I'll say it again. The world is watching

  484. everything, everything that we do and if you don't believe me,

  485. you can do good things. Good things, good things, good

  486. things. And then all of a sudden, stub

  487. your toe. And if you don't think they're

  488. watching, you're going to hear about the stubbed toe there

  489. watching. But Jesus also established a

  490. spiritual interest by his words and we do the same to now

  491. dropping down. Now, beginning in verse 10,

  492. Jesus answered now. He has a listener, Jesus

  493. answered and said, unto her. If thou knewest the gift of God

  494. and who it is that saith to thee, give me to drink, thou

  495. wouldest have asked of him and he would have given thee.

  496. Living Water, the woman, saith unto him, sir, thou Hast nothing

  497. to draw with and the well is deep from whence thou Hast Hast

  498. thou that Living Water art, thou greater than our father.

  499. Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself and

  500. his children and his cattle. Jesus answered and said, unto

  501. her whosoever, drinketh of this water shall thirst again.

  502. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall.

  503. Give him shall never thirst. But the water that I shall give

  504. him shall be in him a, well of water springing up into

  505. everlasting life. Life, the statement of Jesus.

  506. Now shifts and their conversation now is on spiritual

  507. matters. He led them into into a

  508. discussion on a common spiritual interest and that's living

  509. water. She says how can you ask me for

  510. water? You're a Jew.

  511. And I am a Samaritan. And Jesus said, if you knew who

  512. I was, If only you knew who I was, you would be asking me for

  513. water and I would give it unto thee and it's Living Water.

  514. Oh, he has her attention and she says, I want it.

  515. I want the Living Water. Well, regarding our words, we

  516. can raise questions or make statements that shift.

  517. Conversations to spiritual matters as well but it's

  518. important that the discussion first involve matters of common

  519. agreement. I don't have time to go into

  520. this in detail, but I'm I'm just I'm going to mention the

  521. passage. You can write it down if you'd

  522. like those that are taking notes and look at it on your own time.

  523. But Time will not permit me to go into it.

  524. Acts 13. Beginning in verse 16.

  525. This is how important it is to establish.

  526. Now we have the great Apostle Paul as our example and he goes

  527. into Antioch and he goes into the synagogue and he's waiting

  528. there and all of a sudden he's asked as was the custom if

  529. anyone would like to get up and say something and he arises and

  530. what does he do? He begins with things that they

  531. had in common. He starts talking about things

  532. about the God that they have always served.

  533. He starts going down through Bible History, things that they

  534. agree on and then all of a sudden after several verses he

  535. now begins to speak about the Messiah and that salvation was

  536. for them to and the same God that they had always known and

  537. served that they knew all the things that God has done by

  538. delivering his people of old and so on.

  539. And so So forth that same God sent a savior in that savior was

  540. for them too. Important that we establish

  541. things that we have in common before we press on.

  542. But finally tonight I'm just going to talk about four things

  543. tonight. And that is this.

  544. And sometimes we we fail on this one because we get excited.

  545. Nothing wrong with getting excited.

  546. But we get excited. We want to give the whole thing

  547. to him. We're ready to go.

  548. We're so excited the possibility in the prospect of them obeying,

  549. the gospel and we're really chomping at the bit.

  550. But what Jesus shows, is this idea.

  551. Don't go too far too fast, right after.

  552. She says, the woman says, to Jesus, give me this water.

  553. Notice how Jesus responds. First of all, in verse 15 the

  554. woman, saith unto him, sir, give me this water that I thirst not

  555. neither come hither to draw, but notice what Jesus says, very

  556. interesting, he says unto her go call thy husband and come hither

  557. the woman answered and said, I have no husband.

  558. Jesus said unto her thou Hast. Well, L said, I have no husband

  559. for thou Hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now Hast is not

  560. thy husband. In that said, Stout, truly the

  561. woman saith it, saith unto him. Sir.

  562. I perceive that thou art, a prophet.

  563. Here's the point. The entire point is don't give a

  564. person more than they're ready to hear in this discussion.

  565. She wanted living water but she didn't really understand.

  566. She loved the idea of Hearing about living water.

  567. I'll never thirst again. This is a great thing.

  568. I want it. Let me have that.

  569. Oh, she needed the Savior. She needed salvation, she

  570. needed, Jesus, she needed. All of those things, she needed

  571. faith in him as the Messiah, but he needed to provide evidence

  572. that he was the Messiah first. So, instead of giving her living

  573. water, he tells her to get her husband, which will result in

  574. her conviction of him, Him as a prophet.

  575. You know sometimes folks want to talk about, you ever talk to

  576. somebody that's in the religious world or somebody wants to talk

  577. about the Bible. We want to talk about the

  578. Revelation letter, they want to talk about various things and in

  579. the Book of Revelation you don't they need, I don't need that,

  580. they need the gospel, they need to hear the simple gospel.

  581. They're so far ahead of themselves.

  582. They need to be redirected and brought back and it's very

  583. important when we study with people.

  584. And when we talk to people that We do this.

  585. We have a social contact with them.

  586. Got to have it. If you don't have that, you'll

  587. have no Rapport. You establish a common interest

  588. that builds bridges in the lives of others.

  589. And whatever was separating, you, you now have something

  590. that's in common, even a Samaritan woman, that was an

  591. immoral woman with an immoral past and the Lamb of God,

  592. established a common interest. Now they can do it, I can do it

  593. with anybody. Because I guarantee I got a lot

  594. more in common with somebody in the world than Jesus does and so

  595. do you if he can do it we can to establish a spiritual interest

  596. based upon your actions like Jesus did.

  597. And finally by your words also and don't go too far too fast.

  598. You know there's other things that we're going to discuss when

  599. we come back at another time. In conclusion, I just want to

  600. jump ahead to one thing and just give us a little bit of a

  601. Insight on some things that happened after this discussion,

  602. that Jesus had with this woman. We find that because of the

  603. testimony of this woman, because of the fact that he didn't go

  604. too far too fast, he offered proof to her and she went to

  605. others. And she said, this man is a

  606. Prophet, this man, knew everything in my past.

  607. He must be the Christ. And people were converted

  608. because of her testimony later on.

  609. And you know, Jesus says something very powerful.

  610. He said this to his disciples, he talks about, there's going to

  611. be those that are going to sew and those that are going to

  612. reap. Sometimes we do the sewing and

  613. we never reap the Harvest. Oh, make no mistake me and Don

  614. King. So it felt great.

  615. We reap the Harvest. Sure, and I'm gonna tell you

  616. something. There was people preaching

  617. before we ever got there. There was people sewing, you

  618. know what the greatest thing is, though?

  619. You know what Jesus said, we all get to Rejoice together, and it

  620. doesn't matter who reap the Harvest and who did the sewing.

  621. The point is we have to sew and another will reap, but we will

  622. all reap the Harvest. We thank you for listening to

  623. our podcast, put on by the Church of Christ at 22:15 plans.
