  1. Once again, the Lord has been good to us and we have the

  2. privilege to come to gather to worship him.

  3. And to study together, a portion of his inspired word, we're

  4. going to study tonight about the singing in the church.

  5. And before we before, we look at some scriptures in the New

  6. Testament, I want to first talk a little bit about something

  7. that happened in the old and we talked about this a lot, this is

  8. possibly what it might have looked like if you had been on a

  9. Hilltop somewhere and you looked out on the valley when the

  10. Israelites were camped. Now when they were camped,

  11. you'll see this. You see this fire.

  12. This Pillar of Fire. It rested over the spot that

  13. they wanted the Tabernacle to be set up.

  14. And when the time came for them to leave, this Pillar of Fire,

  15. would go to the outside of the camp in the direction, they were

  16. to go and that was God's sign that it was time to pack

  17. everything up. But when God was dwelling in

  18. this tent, no one could approach.

  19. But it except the priests and then, of course, not even a

  20. priest could enter the second compartment which is called the

  21. holy of holies. He that is the high priest could

  22. enter once a year, but not without the blood of bulls for

  23. the sins of he and his family first.

  24. So we have this Old Testament worship and we can learn some

  25. things about Bible says, for whatever things were written,

  26. aforetime were written for our learning that we through

  27. patience and comfort of the scriptures.

  28. Might have hope and we go back to Leviticus chapter 10, verses

    Leviticus 10:1

  29. 1 and 2. The Bible says, then made a

  30. banana by you. The sons of Aaron, each took his

  31. censer and put fire in it. Or on it, her put incense on it

  32. and offered profane fire before the Lord, which he commanded

  33. not, or commanded not, he had not commanded them.

  34. So, fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died

  35. before the Lord. Now, I think it's important to

  36. really understand what happened here.

  37. Now, first of all, the Bible says, they did not offer the

  38. consecrated fire. Now they might have thought lots

  39. of things, they might have thought.

  40. Like we do sometimes and might have reason like this.

  41. What difference does it make fire?

  42. Fire. Well, it comes from home,

  43. whether it, it comes from from the neighbor, it is it matter.

  44. It's fire, it burns the same, it smells the same and it will, of

  45. course, accomplish the same Mission, I don't know why, but

  46. they used fire. That was not from the Brazen

  47. altar, the fire that God had not committed.

  48. Now the Lord didn't tell them. Not off of this fire, he just

  49. gave them the specific command offer the fire a certain way.

  50. He gave him in. Instructions.

  51. Now, remember this, anytime we're looking for evidence any

  52. time we're practicing something anytime, we're going to do the

  53. Lord's, will it is necessary that we look for the evidence in

  54. God's word? It is necessary that we base our

  55. ideology that we base our work on the evidence in God's word,

  56. the Bible says, so then faith comes by hearing and hearing by

  57. the word of God. And so everything we do must be

  58. based upon the word of the Lord. Now, when we find a passage

  59. where God specifies, then, of course, we have to follow that

  60. specific command unless there is something that alters that or

  61. changes that within the scope of God's word.

  62. It's not up to me. It's not up to you, but it's up

  63. to God. Now, sometimes God gives a

  64. command and then he gives us many examples to follow.

  65. Let me illustrate that in Matthew 28.

  66. Jesus said, go Now you remember, probably some of you might you

  67. may remember that when Paul Nichols went to Africa, the

  68. first time and later when Galen and even Terry's a little boy,

  69. went Brethren were opposed to them fly.

  70. They were opposed to it because Paul didn't fly.

  71. And he couldn't read anywhere in the Bible, where preachers ever

  72. food. Well, all of that's true.

  73. And all. That's right.

  74. But they don't understand. They don't understand the

  75. command. Now he says to go, he does not

  76. specify a method and always included in the commanded to act

  77. is the authority to carry out that command.

  78. So the point is, he said go since he did not specify a

  79. particular way then, unless we only find one example where they

  80. went, then then we are at Liberty to choose the method.

  81. Method in which we go. Well, in Acts the 8th chapter,

  82. the Bible says that Philip the Evangelist ran.

  83. Now that's an example, does that mean that we have to run?

  84. I'm going to be in trouble if I have to run out to somebody that

  85. runs very far. Now, we find that Jesus in

  86. Matthew chapter 21 wrote on a donkey.

    Matthew 21 chapter mention

  87. Now, I don't want to ride a donkey.

  88. I'm going to tell you right now, but we have another example, of

  89. Jesus wrote him donkey, in the book of Acts, we find that Paul

  90. wrote on a ship. In fact, when you study the New

  91. Testament they use every available means to go to carry

  92. out that career and so that implied in that is fine flying

  93. doesn't change the command but flying is included in the

  94. command. It we have authority to fly, but

  95. when you don't have specific authority to fly the Lord didn't

  96. specify that, but it's included in the command.

  97. Now, in this example, we're going to notice what God

  98. commanded. Now, God commanded for them to

  99. keep the fire burning on, that Brazen altar day and night.

  100. Now, when Moses had put everything together and had to

  101. sacrifice on the altar, he applied blood to everything, all

  102. the children of Israel were Encompassed about this place and

  103. gods fire. This Pillar of Fire here, rain

  104. down upon the sacrifice and consumed.

  105. It something to firing what Moses did in the eyes of the

  106. people. Now God said, don't ever let

  107. that fire go out. You keep it burning day and

  108. night. This was the altar, one of the

  109. Brethren talk about this. You know, we don't realize how

  110. many sacrifices there were every year on the day of atonement.

  111. Do you realize there were at least 77 animals killed in one

  112. place? Have you ever seen your butcher

  113. to dear? You remember how it smelled

  114. Terry? Can you imagine butchered 77

  115. deer in one day? Can you imagine the Stitch and

  116. the blood? I'm glad we don't live out of

  117. that. Lawrence you?

  118. Every morning. Every evening morning about 9:00

  119. afternoon about 3:00, they made a sacrifice an animal sacrifice.

  120. There were sacrifices called Free Will offerings.

  121. There were sacrifices, called burnt offerings.

  122. There were literally thousands of animals.

  123. In fact, on the, on the Passover, the first Passover in

  124. Exodus 12, have you ever thought about how many animals must have

  125. been sacrificed in Exodus? 12?

  126. There could have been as many as 50,000.

  127. And one day, they had to be slain between the two evenings

  128. somewhere between 3:00 and 5:00 50,000 animals.

  129. Well, what's so amazing about? That is all of those animals.

  130. Never could take away, seein, all of those sacrifices could

  131. never finish sin. It was necessary for Jesus to

  132. come and eradicate those sacrifices.

  133. Well, this is the altar that God ring, the Fire upon and they

  134. recommended. Look at this.

  135. A fire shall always be burning on the altar.

  136. It shall never go out. This was commanded to Aaron and

  137. his sons. So on this altar it was the burn

  138. day and night 300 there was to be a fire from this altar 365

  139. days a year. Then it says in Leviticus

    Leviticus 16:12

  140. chapter 16 verse 12 then he shall take a sensor that is a

  141. fire pan. Full of burning coals of fire

  142. from the altar, Right there. They were to go to that Altar

  143. and they were to take the coals from that Altar and they were to

  144. put it into their fire suit sir. That was commanded by the Lord

  145. that it was necessary for them to do that sensor.

  146. Full of burning coals of fire from the altar before the Lord,

  147. with his hands full of sweet incense, beaten fine, and bring

  148. it inside the veil. Now, the common priests made

  149. evident by Hugh could perform that service.

  150. They were to get their fire from that alter and then of course

  151. they would take the coals inside the holy place.

  152. Now, I want to clarify his, somebody came to me one time and

  153. said There wasn't any roof on the Tabernacle that's wrong, in

  154. fact, inside the Tabernacle the holy place, and the most holy

  155. place, there was no outside light.

  156. That could come in, only the light that heaven above provided

  157. the Candlestick and the holy shih Kedah in the holy of

  158. holies, but this illustration is open so that we can see, this is

  159. for teaching purposes, only, it was a covered structure that you

  160. couldn't see inside. So these priests Nate Avenue by

  161. Hugh were to take this function. Are they were to go to this

  162. altar, get the coals and go through this Veil, enter into

  163. the holy of to the holy place and then offer incense and fire

  164. upon the golden altar. They of course had to do that

  165. every day twice a day and God told him that this was to be

  166. done. According to his will.

  167. Now the scripture says they offered Strange Fire.

  168. Now, I don't know where they got the fire or why they offered it,

  169. but they offered Strange Fire. And God, literally barbecued

  170. those boys. And God is so angry.

  171. Don't you think about this? God is so angry because of what

  172. they've done, he tells Moses their Uncle, he tells Moses or

  173. are in their father, don't you even act?

  174. Like they ever existed, you don't mourn them.

  175. You don't have a funeral, you just go on from this point

  176. forward as if they never existed.

  177. God's angry. Because you see, they did not

  178. sanctify him in the eyes of the people, they didn't follow his

  179. will. Now, I'm going to tell you

  180. something. He's no less happy with us.

  181. When we do not follow, the dictates of his word.

  182. And I think that this is very appropriate for what we're going

  183. to talk about today because men tell us that it doesn't matter

  184. that you can do whatever you want to do.

  185. You can worship, however, you want to worship, but we learn

  186. from this, if we learn nothing else that When God Says

  187. something, he means it. And he expects us to obey it.

  188. He expects us to follow. They offered Strange, Fire.

  189. The Lord commanded not. Well, It is better for you to

  190. enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two

  191. eyes to be cast into Hell Fire, where their worm does not die

  192. and the fire is not quenched. Now the fire and the torment

  193. that we're going to face if we don't obey, the Lord is a whole

  194. lot worse than what they have and about you endured its

  195. Eternal fire. And so when we do, when we do

  196. something, when we practice up and we better, be sure that what

  197. we're doing the Lord. Has commanded it.

  198. Well what about the singing in the church if you search through

  199. the New Testament? What does the Bible say about

  200. it? Let's look at all of the verses.

  201. Just take a couple of minutes to look at all the verses

  202. concerning singing. But before we begin, I asked the

  203. question. Where is our piano?

  204. Why don't we have a piano tonight?

  205. Can you explain intelligently? Why we don't Think about it.

  206. Can you talk to your peers at school and explain to them?

  207. Why we do not have a piano, some elderly sister, many years ago

  208. told or one of our old preachers that she felt sorry for the

  209. church whom that she was going to donate a Pinnacles that he

  210. knew the church couldn't afford it.

  211. Well, is that why we don't have a piano?

  212. Is that why we don't have one of those and in the assembly

  213. tonight? Where the drums, you know,

  214. example, we have problem with drums, we have to teach against

  215. that. We have a church of group not in

  216. our fellowship, but we have a group of Church of Christ that

  217. has drums in their assemblies, they use choirs to sing for

  218. them. We have that problem even in the

  219. religious world in America, where is the guitar?

  220. Where is the Clapping? Where is the dancing?

  221. They even dance. We don't have that problem.

  222. I guess that I know of in America.

  223. But where is all this stuff? Why don't we have these things?

  224. Why don't we practice these things?

  225. Well, of course, what we need to realize is that if it is

  226. something the Lord is not commanded.

  227. We will reap Eternal fire in Matthew 26:30.

    Matthew 26:30

  228. And when they had sung A Hymn they went out to the Mount of

  229. Olives in Mark 14 verse 26. And when they had sung A Hymn

    Mark 14:26

  230. they went out to the Mount of Olives.

  231. Who acts 16:25. But at midnight Paul and Silas

    Acts 16:25

  232. were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were

  233. listening to them. Romans chapter 15, verses 89,

  234. and at the Gentiles might glorify God for his Mercy, as it

  235. is written. For this reason, I will confess

  236. to you among the Gentiles and sing to your name.

  237. Again, First Corinthians 14:15. What is the conclusion?

    1 Corinthians 14:15

  238. Then, I will pray with the spirit and I will also pray with

  239. the understanding Standing, I will sing the spirit and I will

  240. also sing with the understanding.

  241. I want to put something out about this verse.

  242. This verse Ibis understood this for so long.

  243. And I want to be sure that everybody understands what's

  244. being said here. The understanding is not the

  245. person who's singing. It's not the person who's

  246. leading the song. He's talking about leading a

  247. song in the first century Church.

  248. They sometimes were led by the spirit to get up and lead a song

  249. lie to him. And he's talking about speaking

  250. in an unknown tongue. and he says in the context if you study

  251. the context, he's talking about a person singing and he started

  252. with the understanding of the audience and Paul says, I will

  253. pray In the spirit, I pray for the power of the Holy Spirit and

  254. with the understanding, in other words, when I pray I'm not going

  255. to use a tongue. That people the audience can

  256. understand I'm going to pray so that people can understand me

  257. now while that specifically what he's talking about that even

  258. applies to to our service. You know sometimes you get in a

  259. large assembly and someone's asked to lead the prayer and

  260. they prayed to the bench Now, I know I'm not very old but I've

  261. lost a lot of my hearing. When you do that, I don't hear

  262. you. You see when you pray, when

  263. you're asked your appointed to lead the prayer, then you need

  264. to pray clearly distinctly and loudly enough, so that everybody

  265. can hear so that we can all say Amen to that prayer.

  266. So, In this passage, when he says, I will sing with the

  267. spirit and I will sing with the understanding.

  268. He's not talking about singing. According to what, the words

  269. mean in the song? That's why I used to apply it.

  270. Now it's true. We have to worship God in spirit

  271. and Truth, John Chapter 4 verses 23.

    John 4:23

  272. And for him that means that you have to sing and mean what the

  273. word say, if you say throw out the lifeline and all you do is

  274. throw out the fishing line, then you're not singing in the truth.

  275. If you say cast our count your blessings, name them one by one

  276. and then you complain about your plot in your situation in life

  277. all the time and don't count your blessings.

  278. Don't appreciate what you have. Then you're not not singing that

  279. song with the spirit and the understanding you see, But in

  280. this passage, the word understanding has to do with the

  281. other person and if you, if you don't agree with that, go back

  282. and study it. Because you'll find that that's

  283. the case. That's what it has to mean in

  284. that context. But the point I want to make is,

  285. Paul says, I will sing. I will sing again.

  286. Ephesians 5:19 speaking to one another in Psalms, and hymns,

    Ephesians 5:19

  287. and spiritual songs singing and making melody in your heart to

  288. the Lord. Plus use 3 verse 16.

  289. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom

  290. teaching and admonishing. One another in Psalms and hymns

  291. and spiritual songs singing with Grace In your hearts to the

  292. Lord. Now, mr.

  293. Irvine tells us that this verse really should be separated like

  294. this. Now, in the Greek.

  295. Now, I'm not a Greek scholar, so don't come.

  296. That's be puts a great question because I don't know the answer.

  297. Now, Frankie knows that brother doing now could read Greek and

  298. he didn't know, Spencer's and there's some brethren in our

  299. Brotherhood that know some answers.

  300. But but the point is this when he's talking about teaching,

  301. your money started out two things in this passage verse he

  302. says, teach and admonish one another Other.

  303. And then he says, sing in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs

  304. singing and teaching are not the same thing and they're not doing

  305. together now, it's true that we may learn some things when were

  306. singing and we may edify build up one another during the

  307. singing, but that's not what this verse is talking about.

  308. There are actually two distinct phase.

  309. The word of Christ dwell in its teaching and admonishing one

  310. another. And then of course, singing in

  311. Psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs singing with Grace, in

  312. your hearts. As to the Lord, Hebrews 2:12 say

    Hebrews 2:12

  313. I would have Claire your name to my brethren in the midst of the

  314. assembly. I will sing to you.

  315. It's really that were to Simply right there as I can see you,

  316. Again, James 5:13 is, anyone among you suffering?

    James 5:13

  317. Let him pray. Is any anyone, cheerful?

  318. Let him sing. Psalms and Acts 2, verse 47,

    Acts 2:47

  319. praising God, and having favor with all the people and the Lord

  320. added to the church daily. Those who were being saved

  321. included in Praise Is see, don't stated there, but it's included

  322. Hebrews. 13 verse 15, therefore by him.

    Hebrews 13:15

  323. Let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God.

  324. That is the fruit of our lips giving.

  325. Giving thanks to his name song. Singing sing further, lips,

  326. praise all these things are mentioned and yet there's no

  327. place for instrumental music. There's no place where an

  328. instrument is included. In fact, those all fall under

  329. the category of the Lord commanded not.

  330. It doesn't matter if you have a beautiful voice and you could

  331. get up and sing a solo, that's not what the Bible teaches bible

  332. doesn't teach us that in the assembly we should be seen that

  333. way. Now singing who is to say, How

  334. do we know that when we sing? It's a congregational thing.

  335. Well, the Bible has the answer, the Lord has commanded.

  336. He's told us who is to sing and Ephesians 1:1 to the Saints who

    Ephesians 1:1

  337. are in Ephesus and faithful in Christ Jesus, he's not writing

  338. to a group. He's writing all the Christians.

  339. He's writing to everybody over there to finish his chapter 5.

  340. Therefore be imitators of God as dear children and walk in love

  341. as Christ. Also has loved us and gave

  342. himself for us. Us and offering a sacrifice to

  343. God for a sweet-smelling savour. Who this?

  344. Jesus loved who did Jesus died for, he died for a song.

  345. He died for everybody in the church at Ephesus.

  346. He died for everybody in the assembly this night and we're

  347. all his children. If we obey the gospel, he's

  348. writing this to everybody, let no one deceive you with empty

  349. words. For because of these things, the

  350. wrath of God comes upon the sons of Disobedience.

  351. Therefore and or in view of this this this is to all the church.

  352. Therefore Or do you don't be unwise but understand what the

  353. will of the Lord is and do not be drunk with wine and

  354. incidentally that were drunk right there, it's called to

  355. inceptive verb. And it means to grow drunk.

  356. I think about that. It doesn't mean your sauced.

  357. It doesn't mean you've passed out, it means you're becoming

  358. drunk. That's what it means.

  359. You're becoming drunk. That's what that word means.

  360. It's a different word. You're going to find the same

  361. word in 1st Thessalonians. Chapter 5.

  362. And then you'll find the second drunkenness that's mentioned in

  363. that passage. And that passage is not

  364. translated drunk but it's translated drunkenness.

  365. And, and drunkenness in the King, James in the new King

  366. James, just a little different in that were drunk as used.

  367. But the point is one of those words again is the inceptive

  368. verb and it means to grow drunk. The second one means that your

  369. dog drunk or your sot, Now. We're commanded.

  370. We're commanded do not be drunk. In other words, don't grow

  371. drunk. He says if you grow drunk or if

  372. you're growing drunk, if you're the process of growing drunk

  373. with wine this is dissipation or this is to the extreme in other

  374. words. Even stayed California kills

  375. you. When you take your first sip,

  376. That the alcohol begins to attack certain parts of your

  377. brain. You know, it's paradoxical these

  378. commercials. They had to drink responsibly

  379. and yet the first part of your brain that's that's let's touch

  380. by the alcohol. Is the part of your brain.

  381. That's reasonable. It's a paradox.

  382. How can you drink reasonably when you're taking a drug?

  383. That's what alcohol is the drug. When you're taking a drug that

  384. softens your reasoning ability? Well, the point is this folks.

  385. It's not just wrong to be dead dog, drunk.

  386. It's a sin to drink alcohol as a recreational item, period.

  387. It's a sin now. Obviously, we use medications

  388. and we use drugs for medical reasons.

  389. If a doctor has prescribed to you a medicine that has alcohol

  390. in. It's not wrong.

  391. But if you're drinking that for the fun of it, it's wrong

  392. because drinking alcohol is wrong.

  393. He says, do not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation,

  394. but be filled with the spirit notice.

  395. Now, he tells us that we need to be filled with the spirit.

  396. How can you feel yourself? The spirit don't fool yourself

  397. with wine but feel yourself the spirit.

  398. By speaking to one another in Psalms, and hymns, and spiritual

  399. songs singing and making melody in your heart, to the Lord.

  400. Now, some Christians don't like to sing at all.

  401. I never could figure that out. but the Bible says, if your

  402. spiritual you like to say, sometimes I sit in the audience

  403. or I get it to lead a song and I see people not seeing you. now,

  404. maybe you have the croup or you have a problem, if you didn't

  405. sing tonight, But you know, what's sad is sometimes when I

  406. live at a place, I see that happening every service.

  407. You see your commanded to sing, you're commanded a seeing

  408. whether you're leading the song or you're sitting in your seat.

  409. You commanded a saying, whether you're a man or a woman,

  410. sometimes people say well it's a it's a contradiction because the

  411. Bible tells the women to be silent.

  412. But remember now singing his praise and the teaching is

  413. instruction, The teaching is to the audience but the singing is

  414. to God, there's a difference there.

  415. And when he commands the woman to be silent, he's not talking

  416. about seeing he's talking about, instructing, he's talked about

  417. the teaching in First Corinthians 14:34, five, they're

    1 Corinthians 14:34

  418. not parallel. Now, if they were parallel, then

  419. we would have to sing solos. Because only one man at a time

  420. contingency. But we're commanded.

  421. There's a contradiction if that were the case, because we're

  422. commanded as the church were commanded.

  423. All the saints to sing doesn't matter if you sing like a canary

  424. or something, like a moose. You're supposed to see now if

  425. you sound like a moose, you don't have to be the loudest

  426. singer, but you still command to save, we're all committed to

  427. saying we're all committed to participate in the song service,

  428. all men, all women, every Christian where to sing and make

  429. melody in our hearts, every Christian is commanded to sing

  430. in the New Testament. Christians are only found

  431. singing and praising God with her.

  432. It's now I want you to look at this passage.

  433. We already read it, but I'm gonna read it again.

  434. Speaking to one another in Psalms, and hymns, and spiritual

  435. songs singing and making melody in your heart, to the Lord.

  436. Now, we know that singing is vocal nobody questions that but

  437. notice now, the command is to every Christian number one to

  438. sing, then number two to make Melody.

  439. Now, there's a lot of controversy among language

  440. Scholars about the word making Melanie.

  441. Some people think that the word making melody means too strong

  442. or too twitch. Now, let's give people the

  443. benefit of the doubt, maybe that's what it means.

  444. Now, first of all, if that is what it means, just like

  445. everybody has to sing. Everybody has to play See.

  446. And it, isn't it interesting that the Lord solves the

  447. problem. Because he tells us what we

  448. play. He says, seeing with your voice

  449. and then he says play, but he doesn't just say play, he tells

  450. us what to play. He says, play in your heart.

  451. He specified what the instrument is.

  452. It's our hearts. He's not only told us to sing

  453. with our voices, but if that word making, Melody really does

  454. mean to Twitch her to pluck. He's talking about plucking, our

  455. hearts And you see every one of us can do that.

  456. Everyone. Now my sister could play the

  457. piano. There's a few songs that she

  458. learned to play When I was a lot younger when she was a little

  459. girl. And those are some of my

  460. favorite classical songs and she would play those very beautiful

  461. in the piano. Great.

  462. That's a good thing but we can't bring that in the church.

  463. It isn't that we don't like musical instruments and has

  464. nothing to do with it. We're talking about what the

  465. Lord Ants we're talking about what the Lord has commanded and

  466. he's commanded us to sing and make melody in our hearts

  467. knowing during the New Testament age ever is found using an

  468. instrument of Music. Jesus, Peter, Paul, and all the

  469. rest saying with their voice in, praise to God now, how or when

  470. did this change? This is interesting.

  471. We're going to talk a little bit about history for several

  472. hundred years. I'm going to read to you a few

  473. quotes. Now, Justin Martyr was a

  474. Christian far as I know and he lived in the second century

  475. about 39 years after John died. I want you to listen what he

  476. says. The use of instrumental music

  477. was not received in the Christian churches.

  478. Now this is after the Apostle's have died.

  479. He says, we're not using instrumental music.

  480. As it was among the Jew in their input state, but only the use of

  481. plainsong, Simply singing is not agreeable to Children.

  482. The aforementioned mentioned Jews, but singing with lifeless

  483. instruments and with dancing and clapping is on this account.

  484. The use of these kinds of instruments and have others

  485. agreeable to Children. Is removed from the songs of the

  486. churches and there is left, remaining simple singing.

  487. Now we read what happened in the early church.

  488. Now we've read what happened after the last Apostle died.

  489. Now, let's look at somebody else here.

  490. Lipscomb. Wrong way here.

  491. Tertullian he lived in the third Century.

  492. He said, musical concerts with vile and loot belong to Apollo.

  493. No, he was a false god to the muses to Minerva and Mercury who

  494. invented them, ye who are Christians hate, and abhor these

  495. things, who's very author's, themselves must be the object of

  496. loathing and a version in amazing.

  497. Yet people want to bring these in to the worship of the church

  498. eusebius to Who lived in part of the third Century into the

  499. fourth Century of all at the time of those of the

  500. circumcision, we're worshiping with symbols and types.

  501. It was not inappropriate to send up, hymns to God with the

  502. psaltery and the cathode area, but we in an inward manner, keep

  503. the part of the Jew. According to the saying of the

  504. Apostle Romans, 2:28 we render our hymns with a living Salter

  505. and a living. Thorugh with spiritual songs.

  506. The Unison of voices of Christians would be more

  507. acceptable to God that any a musical instrument another

  508. fella. Wrote.

  509. And this man was a denominational man in 1987 in

  510. Christianity. Today, his name was Paul

  511. Earnhardt. After studying their reformers

  512. and the ancient histories he says, it is evident that the

  513. post-apostolic churches did not worship with musical instruments

  514. in an amazing. You'd think, by the way, people

  515. act that it's always been the way it is today, but obviously

  516. it was not in 606 as we stay. He'd last evening, the Roman

  517. Catholic Church started with his 666.

  518. Pope the Italian, authorized the use of his room music, but they

  519. were such a storm of protest to its introduction.

  520. It was thrown out of the Catholic church and it was, of

  521. course, gone for many years until Pope Gregory.

  522. Reintroduced it in 1074. Or do I got that wrong?

  523. Pope Gregory abolished. If it didn't course, it was

  524. brought back in later. Now, I want to talk a little bit

  525. about this Reformation. And I mentioned last night.

  526. Martin Luther hero tree. Wrote this about it.

  527. The organ in the worship is the Insignia of Baal and then

  528. amazing. The organ of worship is the

  529. Insignia Bell. John Calvin says, Men who are

  530. found a fond of outward, pump May Delight in that noise.

  531. But the Simplicity, which God recommends to us is far more

  532. pleasing to him. And he says here, he's, he was a

  533. founder and the organizer of modern presbyterianism and he

  534. again states, that musical instruments should not be found

  535. in the Church of Our Lord. Again, John Wesley says who

  536. founded the Episcopal Church? I have no objection to the

  537. instruments in our chapels provided.

  538. They are neither heard nor seen. I thought that was interesting.

  539. Adam Clark says, he was a Methodist commentator.

  540. I'm an old man and an old Minister and I hear declare that

  541. I never knew that him that his musical instruments productive.

  542. Any good in the worship of God and have had reason to believe

  543. that they were productive of much evil.

  544. Music as a science, I esteem and admire but instruments of music

  545. and the house of God I abominate and abhor, this is the abuse of

  546. music. And here, I rest register my

  547. protest against all such Corruptions in the worship of

  548. the office e in the worship. Charles Spurgeon wrote, we do

  549. not need them. That is musical instruments.

  550. They would rather they would hinder rather than help our

  551. praise sing unto him. This is the sweetest and best

  552. music no instrument like the human voice, what a degradation

  553. to sub plant. The intelligent song of the

  554. whole congregation, by the theatrical, prettiness of a

  555. quartet. And refined niceties of a choir

  556. or the blowing off of wind from the inanimate Billows and pipes.

  557. We might as well. We'll listen to this.

  558. We might as well pray with Machinery or by Machinery as to

  559. Praise by it. Now, these fellows were

  560. denominational been and yet, they recognized that in the

  561. first century Church. There was not anything like

  562. instrumental music found in the services.

  563. The Lord commanded not God's people respected the Bible, they

  564. follow the teaching of the scripture, they realized that

  565. they had to follow a. Thus saith the Lord and all of

  566. those things that we've been talking about, we're not within

  567. the scope of the scripture, they left out all those things that

  568. sometimes people bring in to the church.

  569. The Lord wants congregational singing in praise to God.

  570. Where is the piano? Drums?

  571. Choir guitar? Dancing clapping.

  572. Well they're outside the truth. They're outside the truth and

  573. whatever the name is on the building.

  574. If we offer strange music, then we're going to suffer the

  575. consequences and we're going to face judgment for that.

  576. Now, there's a lot more that could be said about that, but

  577. I'm going to stop right there. If you're here tonight.

  578. I want to ask you are you on the Lord's Side?

  579. Joshua said in the long goal, choose you, this day, whom you

  580. will serve. As for me and my house.

  581. We will serve the Lord. Are you ready to serve the Lord

  582. today? Are you ready to allow the blood

  583. of Jesus to forgive you of seein?

  584. The scripture tells us that we have to be washed in the blood

  585. of Jesus. you know, and John the 20th, chapter is a beautiful

  586. picture portrayed you remember that That Martha came or rather,

  587. Mary came to the feet of Jesus. And Jesus said touch me.

  588. Not, ER, or He explained to her that he had a mission.

  589. He said, I have not yet ascended to my father.

  590. He said, I've got to go to the father, but he said, I want you

  591. to hasten and go tell the disciples that I am going to

  592. present myself to them. And then he disappeared and Mary

  593. went and carried out her task. Well, a lot of people believe

  594. that when Jesus left, he carried his blood to Heaven, he went

  595. with his own blood. Not for his sins.

  596. He was Guiltless, you know the high priest went into the holy

  597. of holies with the blood of bulls then he came back out and

  598. made a sacrifice of a goat and then he went back in a second

  599. time. But Jesus went once.

  600. With his own blood. For you, and you and me.

  601. And now, all we have to do is access that blood and Paul says,

  602. no you not that. So many of us as were baptized

  603. into Jesus, Christ were baptized into his death.

  604. It was in his death, he shed his blood.

  605. So if you're here tonight and you believe with all of your

  606. heart that Jesus is the Christ, you're willing to repent of your

  607. sins. You're ready to confess his

  608. name. You're ready to be buried with

  609. him in baptism. Didn't do it.

  610. Don't let anything stop. You make up your mind that

  611. you're going to serve the Lord and you're going to follow him,

  612. whatever it takes, whatever it costs.

  613. And Jesus, please come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy

  614. laden and he makes a promise he says I will give you rest.
