  1. While Christians today are not under the Old Testament, as a

  2. system of justification, the Old Testament, is still of Great

  3. Value to you. And I today, for as we find from

  4. the words of the great Apostle Paul so long ago, as he was

  5. divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit and wrote the Roman

  6. letter. He said in Romans chapter 15 and

    Romans 15 chapter mention

  7. verse 4 for whatsoever, things were written aforetime were

  8. written for our learning. That we through patience and

  9. comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

  10. And you remember as the Apostle Paul, the very same author

  11. inspired by the very same, holy spirit of God, wrote to the

  12. young evangelist Timothy and second Timothy 3 and verses 16

  13. and 17. When he said that all scripture

  14. is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for Doctrine

  15. for reproof for correction for instruction, in righteousness.

  16. That the man of God, God may be perfect or complete thoroughly

  17. furnished unto all. Good works what Paul said there.

  18. So long ago is this, that all things that are found in the 66

  19. books of the entire Bible are God breathed that all scripture

  20. comes from the very inspiration of God.

  21. And when you and I picked up this grand old book today and we

  22. read, what's found in God's word?

  23. It is as if God through the Holy Spirit was Is speaking to us

  24. directly the things that are found in God's word, are all

  25. those things that are god-breathed and Paul said to

  26. Timothy that its profitable for Doctrine for reproof for

  27. correction for instruction in righteousness.

  28. That the man of God may be complete thoroughly furnished

  29. unto all good works. This is especially true with

  30. regard to the Minor Prophets, The Minor Prophets are the 12

  31. books of the last 12 books. The Old Testament scriptures and

  32. they begin with Hosea and end with the Book of Malachi.

  33. I am convinced though today that those that are willing to study

  34. these books, will as one man said one time and I'll just pass

  35. it on. They will be able to have their

  36. lives enriched as they increase number one, their knowledge of

  37. God's holiness his righteousness, his judgment and

  38. his Mercy, we will And our lives enriched as we increase our

  39. understanding of God's dealings in the nation of man.

  40. And finally in certainly not least, we will find our lives

  41. enriched as we increase our appreciation for the Bible as a

  42. literary Masterpiece. But the question is, who were

  43. the prophets? First of all, let me just say

  44. this under the old Covenant, under the law of Moses, they had

  45. different kinds of instructors of instructors, And we'll just

  46. begin with Moses. Since we've just mentioned his

  47. name, Moses was the lawgiver. But also the Bible says and

  48. teaches us and we can study from God's word that under the law of

  49. Moses or under the old Covenant. There were priests and the

  50. priests were administrators of the law.

  51. Then, there were wise, men, and wise.

  52. Men were those who gave Council then.

  53. There were psalmist. And the psalmist were the poets

  54. or Week singers of Israel. And finally, there were the

  55. prophets and the prophets were communicators of the word of

  56. God. Simply put, I'll just say this

  57. that a prophet was the spokesman for another.

  58. Do you remember not long ago probably about a month ago?

  59. Now we spoke on a subject or I preached a sermon in your

  60. hearing about the excuses that Moses made when God said, I've

  61. heard the Cry of my people, their cry has come unto me.

  62. And I am going to deliver them from Egyptian bondage but he

  63. said this is how I'm going to do it.

  64. I'm going to send you, Moses and you are going to speak to the

  65. people. And one of the excuses that

  66. Moses make so long ago was this. I can't do it.

  67. I'm not the right man for the job.

  68. Surely I could not stand before man and communicate your will to

  69. them because I'm not an eloquent man.

  70. I am slow of speech. I am slow.

  71. Whoa of tongue. But you know, God knew all that

  72. God knew his shortcomings. God knew what he was out, what

  73. he was able to do and new his capabilities.

  74. So he said this, he said there's going to be a spokesman for you

  75. and his name is your brother. Aaron in Exodus chapter 4 and

    Exodus 4 chapter mention

  76. verses 15 and 16 it says and thou shalt speak unto him and

  77. put words in his mouth and I will be with thy mouth and With

  78. his mouth and will teach you what you shall do and he shall

  79. be thy spokesman unto the people and he shall be even he shall be

  80. to thee instead of a mouth and thou shalt be to him.

  81. Instead of God, the word Prophet as defined.

  82. I understand literally means to boil up like a fountain and

  83. these profits while they were under the influence of the holy

  84. spirit of God, they were the spokesman for God.

  85. I'm in second Peter chapter 1 and verse 21.

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  86. You remember that Peter said for the prophecy came not in Old

  87. Time by the will of man but by holy men of God spake as they

  88. were moved by the Holy Ghost. You know I love this.

  89. I'm going to pass it on something.

  90. I read somebody said one time, maybe you've heard it.

  91. But a fellow said one time, there's two kinds of preachers.

  92. I think this is true. There really is and the two

  93. kinds of preachers are these. There's the good preacher and

  94. there's the poor preacher and then he said, this is how you

  95. can tell between a good preacher and a poor creature, it's not

  96. one who is eloquent speech and one who's a great orator makes

  97. him a good preacher and one who doesn't have great speaking

  98. ability. Makes him a poor preacher.

  99. No, he said that what makes a good Sure is one who has

  100. something to say. While the poor preacher simply

  101. has to say something and that's the difference, but then he said

  102. this, there's a third and even higher class of preacher.

  103. And that's the man who has something to say, and it burns

  104. down deep within him. And he can't stay put and he

  105. can't be still. And he has to say it thus were

  106. the prophets of God. Jeremiah A whale represents this

  107. latter class as he explains his feelings, you remember his

  108. complaint in Jeremiah chapter 20 beginning in verse 7, listen to

    Jeremiah 20 chapter mention

  109. these words he said O Lord thou Hast deceive me and I was

  110. deceived Thou Art stronger than I and Hast prevailed.

  111. I am in derision daily. Everyone Market me for, since I

  112. spake, I cried out, I cried violence and I cried spoil.

  113. Because the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me and a

  114. derision daily. Then I said, I will not make

  115. mention anymore in his name, but notice what happened to Jeremiah

  116. the very next words are these. But his word was in my heart as

  117. burning fire, shut up in my bones and I was weary with

  118. forbearing and I could not stay thus were the prophets.

  119. Of God. Well, how are the prophets

  120. classified in the Bible? There are classified into

  121. different classifications and they are these, there were the

  122. oral prophets and then there were the literary prophets.

  123. Well, it's quite obvious who would be the oral prophets and

  124. who would be the literary prophets, or what was the

  125. difference? Here's the difference.

  126. The oral prophets were still the spokesman for God and they went

  127. out as for Taylor's and forth. Tellers to convey the Words of

  128. God, that God wanted them to do so.

  129. But the oral prophets were the ones that did not bear any

  130. writings in their name. Simply put, they are these.

  131. I'll just give you a couple of examples, though.

  132. We could cite a whole lot of them today.

  133. The Prophet Elijah was one who fell under the category of his

  134. of an oral Prophet. The Prophet Elijah, Nathan Gad,

  135. and many, many others. They were ones with that were

  136. the spokesman for Oh God, it, boiled up like a fountain within

  137. them and they conveyed the word of God.

  138. But they did not have any writings bearing, their names

  139. simply put. Now we understand what a

  140. literary. Profit is a literary, prophets.

  141. Are those that had writings that bore their names and of those

  142. literary prophets. They are categorized into

  143. different categories. The Major Prophets, and the

  144. Minor Prophets, but let's understand something.

  145. Today, when I say Major Prophets and I say Minor Prophets, it

  146. doesn't mean that the major prophets were more important

  147. than the Minor Prophets. And it does not mean that the

  148. Minor Prophets were inferior in any way by way of importance, by

  149. way of the man, as the prophet, or even the message that was

  150. being conveyed. It does not mean that they were

  151. inferior to the Major Prophets. It simply is referring to the

  152. length of their writing. The major prophets, were these

  153. Isaiah, Jeremiah Lamentations Ezekiel and Daniel were the

  154. major prophets and in the Minor Prophets.

  155. As we mentioned, a moment ago, it begets, the last 12 books of

  156. the 39 books of the Old Testament scripture beginning

  157. with Hosea and they were Hosea, Joel, Amos Obadiah Jonah.

  158. Micah Nahum habakkuk Zephaniah haggai, Zechariah and Malachi

  159. the last 12 books. Acts of the Old Testament,

  160. scriptures made up the Minor Prophets.

  161. Now today, let's begin with the prophet Obadiah.

  162. I am convinced that this was written in the 9th century,

  163. during the early Assyrian period in about 845 BC.

  164. I also understand that it is it is really probably unlikely to

  165. pin down for sure between these two dates but some say that in

  166. 586 BC that this letter was written, or this book was

  167. written solely. Long ago, but I contend that it

  168. was the earlier date. And I think context wise

  169. supports that, that would make this writing the earliest of

  170. all, of the prophets of the Minor Prophets in 845 BC.

  171. Historically, speaking, you remember that?

  172. This was during the period of the divided Kingdom in Israel's

  173. history to the north, and to the east.

  174. The Empire of Assyria was beginning to make its presence

  175. known in Israel. Let me Just say this.

  176. Who was Obadiah? And I am convinced that it's not

  177. possible to know, for sure, who the prophet Obadiah was, though.

  178. There are many names or many times, when the word or name

  179. Obadiah is mentioned, was it talking about Ahab servant?

  180. So on was it talking about another occasion in second,

  181. chronicles, 17, and 7, we don't know.

  182. But one man said this about Obadiah, it's not necessary that

  183. we understand who, the man was what's necessary, is we

  184. understand what his message was. Us.

  185. And that's what we have. We find very little in God's

  186. word. In fact, we find nothing in

  187. God's word about this particular Obadiah that wrote this book, so

  188. long ago. Let me just give you the message

  189. really quickly. The message of this prophecy was

  190. simply this the fall of Edom, and there's a reason for the

  191. fall of Edom. It's going to be because of its

  192. sinful pride. And let me just say this

  193. whatever was wrong. Back in 8, 45 BC with regards to

  194. Pride is going to be wrong it with you.

  195. And I today as we live in this Christian Life it has always

  196. been wrong. In fact, you remember when Satan

  197. and a third of the hosts of Heaven were cast out because of

  198. their sinful pride pride. The Bible says, goes before

  199. destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

  200. So why was Edom going to be brought down and destroyed?

  201. Why was judgment going to come on the people or the Edomites

  202. that dwelt in that land simply put because of their sinful

  203. Pride, number one and number two because of their cruelty to

  204. Israel. They're cousins you know those

  205. are two things and two themes that ring true today, you can't

  206. have any pride and be acceptable in the eyes of God.

  207. And you certainly cannot be cruel to your fellow man.

  208. Those were things that Jesus taught in the Christian

  209. dispensation before the church was established, Jesus preached

  210. about those things, all those things came into effect in Acts.

  211. The second chapter when the church was established and those

  212. things are wrong today as they were wrong.

  213. So long ago, here's more of the message, Zion would be exalted.

  214. When Mount Isa or Mount seir, which was the Edomite

  215. counterpart design would be cast down.

  216. And when that happens, that's going to happen.

  217. When the rescued of Israel will be in, Zion listen for in it.

  218. The redeemed shall be found. Does that sound like something

  219. else that we know about? In Zion is where the redeemed

  220. would be. Found there's a picture of

  221. something there that Obadiah wrote so long ago and 8:45 BC

  222. will get back to that in Greater detail in just a little while.

  223. But the history of Edom, the people of Edom descended from

  224. Esau Jacob's twin, brother, their sibling rivalry between

  225. Edom. And Israel, though was found,

  226. first in the Twins and Esau and Jacob in their mother's womb,

  227. you Remember the 25th chapter of the Book of Genesis?

  228. We find that the twins struggled in their mother's womb.

  229. You remember also before that though, that Isaac and treated

  230. the Lord for Rebecca because Rebecca was bearing and the

  231. Bible says that she conceived. But the two twins, these two

  232. boys that were in her womb were struggling against each other

  233. struggling together mightily so much.

  234. So that she asks God the question she says, why is this

  235. so Why do these struggle within me?

  236. And God said, this two nations are in thy womb and to manner of

  237. people shall be separated from thy bowels and the one people

  238. shall be stronger than the other people and the Elder Shall Serve

  239. the younger. And the Bible says that when

  240. that when they were in their womb, they struggled, but one

  241. day they were delivered in. The first came out red all over

  242. like, a hairy garment and they called his name.

  243. Esau and after that his brother came out holding on to Esau's

  244. heel and they called him. Jacob.

  245. And the Bible says that the boys grew and Esau was a cunning

  246. Hunter, a man of the field and Jacob was a plain man dwelling

  247. in tents and Isaac loved Esau because of he did eat his

  248. venison but Rebecca loved Jacob you know, this sibling rivalry

  249. continued one day when Jacob had sawed pottage the King James.

  250. Version, I didn't reference other translations but the King

  251. James version says sod pottage. Now what does that?

  252. That's just a fancy way of saying, he boiled some stuff in

  253. a pot. I think this very I think we

  254. need to look at the language of the things that transpired that

  255. day to have a really good understanding of just exactly

  256. the mindset of Esau with what he was willing to give up all of a

  257. sudden Here Comes Esau from the field and he was faint and he

  258. was faint so much so that he thought he was going to die.

  259. Died and he sees Jacob with this, sod pottage and he comes

  260. to him and says this, get this give me that same red pottage.

  261. You know, there was nothing spectacular, there was nothing

  262. special about what he was cooking that day.

  263. It was the same red pottage that he had seen so many times

  264. before. But Esau was desperate and he

  265. comes to Jacob and he thinks he's going to die.

  266. He says I faint give me some of that.

  267. Same red pottage and Jacob. Thought, you know what?

  268. I'm going to do, I'm going to capitalize on the situation.

  269. I'm going to capitalize on his weakness and he said this, give

  270. me your Birthright. Tell me your Birthright in

  271. exchange for some of this pottage and Esau said this, I'm

  272. dying. Anyway, I'm going to lose my

  273. life, I'm faint to the point of death than a birthrights.

  274. Really not going to do me any good anyway.

  275. Deal done, give me the potage and he begins to eat it and so

  276. on and so forth. And the Bible says from that day

  277. forward. Esau did despised his Birthright

  278. but the sibling rivalry continued didn't It you remember

  279. one time when Isaac, the Bible says, Isaac was old and his eyes

  280. were faint in that he could not see, you know, I've tried to

  281. picture how come he didn't understand or how come, he

  282. didn't know. It was Jacob as an imposter

  283. really on that occasion. How did he not know that it

  284. wasn't Esau or at that? How did he not know that?

  285. But the Bible says that, that Isaac says to Esau, he said, I

  286. want you to go out and kill. Me some meat and bring back some

  287. of that venison. Bring me back some of that

  288. savory meat that I love so much, and I'm going to eat and be

  289. filled with it. And then when I'm done, I'm

  290. going to give you the blessing of the firstborn and off.

  291. Esau goes, I don't know how long he was gone, but he was gone

  292. long enough, but overhearing, what was happening?

  293. There was Rebecca. You remember the Bible says that

  294. Rebecca loved Jacob and Rebecca comes to Jacob.

  295. And he says And she says this, your brother Esau is about to

  296. receive his Blessing, the blessing of the firstborn.

  297. He's out there trying to bring some meat in, he's going to

  298. bring venison or savory meat to your father, and have the

  299. blessing go quickly now. And get two goats from the flock

  300. and you bring them in and I will prepare Savory meat for thy

  301. father. And Jacob said, I'll never get

  302. away with it. Esau is a hairy man and I am a

  303. smooth man. He will reach back and touch

  304. behind my neck and find that I am smooth on my neck and,

  305. therefore, he'll know, it's me. He said, and if I try to deceive

  306. him, he's gonna know it's me. And not only, am I not going to

  307. receive the blessing? I'm going to receive a cursing

  308. from him, and Rebecca said, let his curse be on me do, as you're

  309. told, and he does. And the Bible says, they took

  310. those skins with the Furs and she put those On his hands.

  311. And she put it on the back of his neck.

  312. And here, he comes with the Savory meat to bring to Isaac.

  313. And he says here, father, it is as I paraphrase.

  314. Here's the venison that you wanted.

  315. Here's the Savory meat and he's going to eat that.

  316. And he says, and then you can give me my blessing.

  317. And Isaac said, how can it be? So you sound like Jacob, but you

  318. feel like Esau when he reached out and touched the hands of

  319. Jacob and found those So first skins, he said you feel like,

  320. like, Esau, you sound like Jacob, who isn't?

  321. He says I'm he saw and he ate it and he gave the blessing to

  322. Jacob and we know the story. Esau wanted to kill Jacob and

  323. Rebecca told him that to flee, and get away from that.

  324. And so on, here's really the point though, as they reconciled

  325. later on in about Genesis, the 32nd and 33rd chapter, we find

  326. that they did reconcile. But their descendants still

  327. struggled together. And so we find also that those

  328. descendants continued as we find in The Exodus.

  329. When Edom refused Israel Passage through their land.

  330. Notice the numbers, the 20th, chapter beginning in verse

  331. number 14 and Moses sent Messengers from Kadesh under the

  332. king of Edom, thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all

  333. the travail that hath. Befallen us how our fathers went

  334. down into Egypt and we have dwelt in Egypt for a long time

  335. and the Egyptians vexed us and our fathers.

  336. And when We Cried unto the Lord, he heard our voice and send an

  337. angel and hath brought us forth out of Egypt and behold.

  338. We are in K Desh a city in the uttermost of vibe order.

  339. Let us pass. I pray thee.

  340. Through thy country, we will not pass through the fields, or

  341. Through The Vineyards. Neither will we drink of the

  342. water of the wells. We will go by the Kings Highway.

  343. We will not turn to the right hand, nor to the left until we

  344. have passed thy borders. And Edom said unto him.

  345. Thou shalt not pass by me. Lest I come out against thee

  346. with The Sword and the children of Israel said unto him, we will

  347. go by the highway and if If I and my cattle drink of the

  348. water, then I will pay for it. I will only without doing

  349. anything else. Go through on my feet and he

  350. said, Thou shalt not go through and eat them.

  351. Came out against him with much people and with the strong hand

  352. the descendants of those at odds with one another Edom.

  353. Do you remember? Historically speaking was

  354. finally subjected by David in second.

  355. Chapter 8 and verses 13 and 14 where it says this and David got

  356. him a name when he returned from smiting of the syrians, in the

  357. valley of salt being 18,000 men, and he put Garrison's in Edom

  358. throughout all Edom, put he Garrison's and all they of Edom

  359. became David servants and the Lord preserve David.

  360. Whithersoever, he went, but then in second Kings chapter, 18

  361. verses 20 through 22. To that in the days of joram, or

  362. jehoram Edom, revolted and located, south of the Dead Sea,

  363. and built their cities in the cliffs and they thought

  364. themselves impregnable and that no one was mighty enough to

  365. overthrow them and that was a problem.

  366. That rang true all the way until 8:45 BC, when Obadiah the

  367. prophet spoke as he did. So long ago, they thought, you

  368. know what we're going to do, we're going to revolt And we're

  369. going to go make our cities in the cliffs.

  370. We're going to be hidden here. They'll never come and get us

  371. will see them coming and we're going to be protected here and

  372. no power and no might of man could ever overthrow us for.

  373. We are Mighty in this way but you know by 100 BC they were

  374. finally conquered. Many of them were forced to be

  375. to be circumcised and accept the law becoming nominal Jewish

  376. proselytes and By 100 AD historically speaking, eat them

  377. as a race and nation was lost to history.

  378. Let me just very briefly, give you the outline of the book.

  379. First of all, there's the coming Judgment of Edom in verses 1

  380. through 9 that Edom do deceive by pride of her location will be

  381. brought down and that, that destruction will be absolutely

  382. complete. That Edom will be betrayed by

  383. its allies to, you know. People do sometimes when they

  384. think they've got friends. Let me just tell you this, in

  385. the world. In the flesh, we have people

  386. that we think are our lives. We think sometimes that we're

  387. going to be strong or for example, we have something that

  388. we have to stand up for a cause that we have to stand up for.

  389. Now, I'm not talking about members of the body of Christ

  390. who stand for truth and right and listen, we stand together

  391. and we always will stand together and may we never be

  392. apart with regard to right and wrong.

  393. With what you and I must stand for as the body of Christ as

  394. Christians. But I'll tell you something else

  395. though, you know what happens when you're in the world and all

  396. of a sudden you have to stand for a cause and you have allies

  397. and you got people backing you up.

  398. Have you ever been placed in a position in your life?

  399. When all of a sudden because, you know, their strength in

  400. numbers and you stand there, you stand there, strong and you turn

  401. around and your allies have left.

  402. You Have you ever had that happen?

  403. It turn around and you're all alone.

  404. The allies of Edom, they thought that because of the strength of

  405. their allies and because of the strength and power of their

  406. location, there was no way that they could be brought down.

  407. And yet, those were prideful things that condemn them.

  408. Their allies left them and not even all the wisdom and all the

  409. might In the Flesh. Could save them.

  410. Now, then Obadiah gives the reason for violence and

  411. unbrotherly conduct toward Jacob.

  412. He gives a rebuke of such and then he says this in verses 15

  413. and 16 where he speaks of the day of the Lord, the day of the

  414. Lord is the day that God manifests himself to overthrow

  415. his and Enemies. And I'll tell you this though,

  416. when we have conduct toward each other, that is not like it ought

  417. to be We're going to answer for that.

  418. Sometimes people say, and I'm not trying to be repetitive.

  419. You've heard me preach this. I'll say his really quickly

  420. about judging others. We can judge.

  421. Yes, we do, we judge righteous judgment.

  422. We use the word of God. We consider thyself, ourself.

  423. Absolutely lest we be tempted and we have to have the right

  424. heart Spirit motivation intention and all of that.

  425. When we stand in judgment over another, without those things,

  426. we're going to hear the very same thing.

  427. Back on the day of judgment, the things that these people had

  428. done. We're going to hear it back in

  429. their literal destruction because of what they had done.

  430. And in the day of the Lord, that's the day that God,

  431. overthrows his enemies, he did. So and the day of the Lord for

  432. you and I is the Judgment Day and that's the day that God will

  433. overthrow his enemies as well. And we're going to hear Here,

  434. how we had judgment over another on that day.

  435. I don't know about you, but I kind of think I need all the

  436. help. I can get, I don't want to hurt

  437. myself on the day of judgment because I've judged wrongfully

  438. in this life and let me just say one more thing and I'll move on

  439. You can stand for what's right? You can go to your brother and

  440. you can rebuke him and you can do so strongly, but you can do.

  441. So with the right heart, you can do.

  442. So with the right intention and the right motive that you want

  443. your brother to repent, because you know what's coming down the

  444. line. If they don't, I'll tell you

  445. something, there's nothing in the world wrong with that.

  446. In fact, you know what Jesus said said, he said get the beam

  447. out of your eye. So you see clearly to help your

  448. brother, not just leave him alone and he leaves you alone.

  449. No, we don't leave Other alone, we just cast out our own

  450. problems. So we can see clearly to do what

  451. help our brother live the Christian Life.

  452. Third thing, we find in this chapter in this book is the

  453. exultation of Israel over Jordan.

  454. Overeaten, deliverance and Holiness will be found in Mount

  455. Zion, not Mount, Esau or Mount seir.

  456. Which was the prominent mountain in Edom?

  457. The house of Jacob. Shall consume the house of Esau

  458. the children of Israel. Shall possess Edom and

  459. surrounding Nations. And the ultimate rule will be

  460. that of the laws. You know, the Fulfillment of

  461. this prophecy was twofold. It was immediate with the

  462. literal fulfillment of it. Beginning when edom's

  463. destruction began with the Babylonian Invasion under

  464. Nebuchadnezzar and about 600 BC and we spoke of just a moment

  465. ago historically by what happened by 100 BC and as they

  466. were finally destroyed and by 100 AD, there were the people as

  467. a race and Nation were lost to history.

  468. But there's also the ultimate fulfillment.

  469. Most likely coming with the Messiah with Jesus Christ for

  470. with his coming and establishment of the spiritual

  471. Kingdom. Beginning at Jerusalem and that

  472. deliverance and Holiness did come from Mount.

  473. Zion in Jerusalem, in Luke 24. You remember after Jesus was

  474. crucified and after he was buried, he rose from the dead on

  475. the third day. And he was about to spend about

  476. 40 days with those disciples. And what did he say?

  477. He said in Luke the 24th chapter he said, and that repentance and

  478. remission of sins would be preached in his name among Among

  479. all nations beginning where beginning at Jerusalem, then it

  480. says that the ultimate rule will be that of the Lords.

  481. Jesus said those words and the twenty-eighth chapter of the

  482. Book of Matthew and beginning in verse 18, what did Jesus say?

  483. He said all power or all authority is given unto me in

  484. heaven and in Earth and because of that power because of that

  485. Authority, he was able to say to go either.

  486. For and teach All Nations, baptizing them in the name of

  487. the father, and of the son and of the Holy Ghost and then

  488. teaching them to observe all things whatsoever.

  489. I have commanded you and lo, I Am With You Always even to the

  490. end of the world and first Peter 3 and 22.

  491. Who is gone into heaven? And is on the right hand of God,

  492. angels and authorities and Powers, being made subject unto

  493. him. But finally along this line, the

  494. house of Jacob. The true.

  495. Spiritual Israel did possess Edom as the Gentiles among them

  496. became Christians. We're faithful Gentiles are

  497. spoken of as being grafted into the stock of Israel time will

  498. not permit us. Us to go there, Romans 11 and

  499. verses 13 through 18, to support this interpretation.

  500. You remember that in the Old Testament prophecy Mount Zion is

  501. used as a symbol of spiritual Jerusalem.

  502. And that being today, the church.

  503. And as Obadiah pointed out, the literal place of safety and

  504. refuge would be found on literal Mount Zion understand this, the

  505. only place that the child of God or You want in the whole world

  506. is going to have refuge and security and safety is found in

  507. Mount. Zion in the church, there is

  508. nothing outside of the body of Christ.

  509. That is a place of Refuge. Obadiah pictures to mountains.

  510. One is the counterpart of the other one is in Edom is going to

  511. be destroyed, but all of those that are not going to be

  512. destroyed, will not be destroyed because they found refuge in

  513. solace in Mount. Zion the only place that you can

  514. find that kind of safety, I'll touch on that one more time at

  515. the very end of our talk. And I'm almost through stay with

  516. me. Let me just talk to you now

  517. about some lessons learned Learned from the book of

  518. Obadiah. As we mentioned before that,

  519. Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a

  520. fall Proverbs 16 and 18. You know, one of the things

  521. that's wrong with pride is it leads to vanity and it leads to

  522. a sense of independence from God if I live my life in a prideful

  523. state or prideful condition if I Elevate myself too highly and

  524. I'm filled with all of my Wonderful Pride, that is in me.

  525. I'm really saying by my actions. I am demonstrating.

  526. I don't need God. I can exist in my independent

  527. state with all of my pride because of how great that I am

  528. because of where I live, because of what I have because of the

  529. friends that I hang out with and so on and so forth.

  530. If I do that, then what I'm doing is I'm demonstrating to

  531. God that I don't need him in my life and that's not true.

  532. Just as Edom took pride in their geographical location, allies

  533. wisdom and might such arrogance. God will always punished and

  534. Isaiah 13 beginning in verse nine.

  535. Listen to this, behold the day of the Lord cometh cruel both

  536. with wrath and fierce angle anger to lay the land desolate.

  537. And he shall destroy the Sinners there of out of it, for the

  538. stars of Heaven. And the constellations thereof

  539. shall not give They're like the sun shall be darkened in his

  540. going forth and the moon shall not cause her like to shine.

  541. And I will punish the world for their evil and the wicked for

  542. their iniquity and I will cause the arrogancy of The Proud to

  543. cease and will lay low, the haughtiness of the terrible may,

  544. we always all the days of our life be on guard against such

  545. Pride. Second lesson, Don't mistreat

  546. your brethren. That's something else we learned

  547. to. Don't mistreat your brethren.

  548. Everyone here has a family of some sort, some sighs, maybe

  549. you've had a sibling, maybe you've been married, you know

  550. what happens sometimes. Sometimes the people that were

  551. related to that, we're supposed to be the closest to where the

  552. worst to. I don't know why.

  553. That's the way that it is. But it is we have all done that

  554. a time or two will be on our best behavior in the eyes of the

  555. world. But then when we get to the

  556. confines of our own family, the people that were supposed to

  557. love and cherish and protect. Sometimes where the very worst

  558. to let? That never be said, among the

  559. people of God to themselves. Don't ever let.

  560. That we said that we treat the people of God we that are, are

  561. the people of God, treating each other wrongfully.

  562. That was another thing that these people did that was wrong

  563. that condemn them and brought down their destruction.

  564. In verse 10 of the book of Obadiah.

  565. It says for thy violence against thy brother.

  566. Jacob, shame shall cover thee and thou Be cut off forever.

  567. And so we learned that how we treat our Brethren, affects our

  568. relationship with the Lord. Paul said in First Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 8 chapter mention

  569. chapter 8 and verse 12, but when you sin so against the Brethren

  570. and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

  571. And so may, we always be careful of how we treat.

  572. One another, thirdly get this one.

  573. Don't rejoice in the Calamity of another.

  574. Don't rejoice when something happens to another, that's bad.

  575. Let's be real honest though, right now.

  576. And the ever done like I have at least once or twice, I would

  577. imagine Imagine there's quite a few more I just can't remember,

  578. but say you have an enemy. and he missed treats you and he says

  579. things to you and he does evil against you and so on, you're

  580. trying to have the Christian attitude, you don't retaliate

  581. because we don't Then all of a sudden, something happens.

  582. Bad in his life. You know what?

  583. You kind of say inside? That's the way, all right.

  584. Oh, that's great. He sure had that coming and then

  585. we Rejoice because something bad happened to someone else.

  586. That's another lesson that we find that we need not to do.

  587. Don't rejoice when your enemy Falls.

  588. Proverbs 24, 17 and 18 says, Rejoice, not when thine enemy

  589. falleth and let not thine heart. Be glad when he stumbleth less

  590. the Lord see it and it displeased him.

  591. Excuse me, and he turn away his wrath from him.

  592. You know, this Edom did when Judah was plundered and verse

  593. 12, but Thou shalt it's not have looked on the day of thy brother

  594. in the day that he became a stranger.

  595. Thou has rejoiced over it over the children of Judah.

  596. In the day of their destruction, neither shouldst.

  597. Thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress rejoicing.

  598. In the Calamity of another is a sin.

  599. And, you know what else? His too.

  600. You can't rejoice in their bad things, that happened to him.

  601. But you know what else you're not supposed to do.

  602. You're not supposed to see that they're in need and passed by on

  603. the other side doing nothing to help them.

  604. Remember when Jesus talked about that he said that there was a

  605. man and he was traveling on about a 15-mile road that

  606. descended some 3,000 feet, it was rough and it was Rocky and

  607. it descended, some 3,000 feet beginning with that Jerusalem,

  608. down to Jericho, he said this man falls among Thieves and

  609. somebody comes and takes what he has and they almost beat him to

  610. death and they leave him for dead.

  611. You know what I think about there are folks here that are

  612. from the same area. I was in the Oxnard area and

  613. you'll remember when I'm talking about, but in the colonial

  614. Colonial area, you didn't go down there at night.

  615. That's a good way to get in trouble.

  616. You didn't drive down those streets.

  617. You didn't walk down those streets.

  618. It was a rough place to be. Well, this fella, I understand

  619. is traveling on a road that's just as rough and he falls among

  620. Thieves. Here's my point two men passed

  621. by One of them. Surely he's going to stop.

  622. You know why? He's a priest.

  623. He's a worshiper of God. He's a worshipper in the temple.

  624. Surely. He's going to stop and help this

  625. man. But he passes off.

  626. Passes on by, then Jesus said, there's a levite, all, he's

  627. going to stop. You know why?

  628. Because he's a man that rolls up his sleeves, he's a worker in

  629. the temple, he's a helper. He's a man that's going to stop.

  630. Surely you know what the Bible says that he does?

  631. Jesus says he looks on the man and deliberately passes on the

  632. other side. It's wrong to do that.

  633. We don't rejoice when they're have lll, come their way, but we

  634. certainly don't pass on the other side doing nothing when we

  635. can help them. But not only did Edom passed by

  636. on the other side refusing to help but she also joined in the

  637. attackers to loot them. Surely, you've seen on TV down

  638. in l.a. something bad happens. In that awful, people have their

  639. houses and they have their businesses and they have things

  640. of value in those buildings and something happens, that comes

  641. their way and earthquake flood a fire some sort of tragedy in

  642. their life, whatever it is. And not only do you pass on the

  643. other side and do nothing to help.

  644. Not only do you rejoice in their Calamity but how about the

  645. people that actually go inside their buildings and steal?

  646. What they have, that's what Edom did they joined in with the

  647. attackers and looted them? We're getting a pretty good

  648. picture of why they were to fall.

  649. Let's never rejoice when our enemy Falls.

  650. Let's be there to help those that are in need and surely, I

  651. don't have to say this to God's people but surely we would not

  652. join in with the attackers and take what they have.

  653. But finally, and then I will be through in the division, the

  654. time of divine judgment. God provides a means and place

  655. for escape for those who turn to him and verse 17.

  656. Obadiah says that upon Mount Zion shall be Deliverance.

  657. Today, spiritual Mount Zion is the place that we can turn and

  658. let me just tell you this. I understand that you and I are

  659. in the flesh. I know that. but the place of

  660. Refuge is the church, and let me just tell you this too, I know

  661. that sometimes because we're in the flesh, maybe we don't always

  662. behave ourselves, the way that we should, and we regret that

  663. But I'll tell you this, too. We know that we cannot get to

  664. God the Father in Heaven one day except through Christ, through

  665. his body, being the church and that's a blessing because it's

  666. the ultimate victory in heaven. But let me just say this to,

  667. when you have challenges in your life, when you have things that

  668. come your way that are difficult to handle.

  669. I'm going to tell you something else too.

  670. The church is the place of Refuge, because in the church is

  671. where God's people are. And those sometimes we don't

  672. always behave as we should God's people are the greatest people

  673. in all the world. The reason for that, not because

  674. of our own conceit in our own Pride.

  675. But because we go by a different standard.

  676. We ever desire and strive to be like, Christ in all that we do

  677. the church, Zion is the only place of Refuge for, as Obadiah

  678. said, so long ago for in it, the redeemed shall be found.
