  1. This evening, I'd like to invite your attention to the book of

  2. 1st Corinthians. The fifth chapter, and we want

  3. to read a few verses there. And then we'll read two verses

  4. in the book of Titus. First Corinthians chapter 5 and

    1 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  5. beginning. In verse 1, the Apostle Paul

  6. said it is reported commonly that there is fornication among

  7. you and such fornication as is not so much as named among the

  8. Gentiles. That one should have his

  9. father's. Father's wife and ye are puffed

  10. up and have not rather mourned that.

  11. He hath done, this deed might be taken away from among you, for I

  12. verily as absent in body, but present, in spirit, have judged

  13. already as though, I were present concerning him.

  14. That have so done this deed, in the name of the Lord Jesus

  15. Christ, when you are gathered together and my spirit with the

  16. power of our Lord, Jesus Christ to deliver such an one unto

  17. Satan for the destruction of the flesh that the spirit may be

  18. saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

  19. And then in verse number 11, Paul says, but now I have

  20. written unto you not to keep Company If any man that is

  21. called a brother, be a fornicator or Covetous, or an

  22. idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner with

  23. such an one. No, not to eat.

  24. Now, in the book of Titus, the third chapter will read Verses

  25. 10 and 11. A man that is in heretic after

  26. the first and second admonition, reject knowing that he that is

  27. such is subverted and sinneth being condemned of himself.

  28. This morning as a quick review, we talked about what do we do?

  29. What does the child of God do? And what does the church do with

  30. reference to one that has sinned against another personally?

  31. We talked about what Jesus said, Jesus said, If thy brother

  32. trespass in the King James version, it says trespassed.

  33. And that word means sin. That if your brother sins

  34. against you, your to go to your brother.

  35. And between the two of you and only the two of you, you are To

  36. rebuke or reprove, your brother. And Jesus said that if he hears

  37. you you've gained your brother but if not the second step would

  38. be to take one or two others. And if he neglects to hear those

  39. folks, then it goes before the church.

  40. And if he will not hear the church, Jesus said, let him be

  41. as a heathen man and a Publican. But tonight for a little while,

  42. we want to talk about, what does the church do when one is guilty

  43. of Of the immoral acts that are described in 1st Corinthians 5.

  44. And what do we do with the heretic?

  45. And what is that a trend prevails among churches in the

  46. religious world today to have unrestricted Fellowship within

  47. its members? If the members are immoral

  48. immoral, in business, social life, or in their physical

  49. relationships, or if they're living ungodly and

  50. unrighteousness, An unrighteous in any fashion.

  51. They are deemed worthy of acceptance.

  52. If they are inclined to be religious, if we do not accept,

  53. such we are considered to be narrow bigoted prejudiced

  54. Hypocrites. We are charged with being

  55. unwilling to prove encouragement, to the very

  56. persons who need it. The most in fact, unless we

  57. receive them with open arms, we are considered to be less worthy

  58. than they. This truly is a sad commentary.

  59. I'm Terry on our society in general and on the modern

  60. religious attitude, specifically today, the church at Corinth had

  61. its trouble along this very same line.

  62. Not only, did they have a member who was guilty of practicing

  63. fornication, but the rest of the members were proud of the fact

  64. that they were so open-minded, that they could Embrace such

  65. people, it was bad enough to have one.

  66. That was a member of that congregation guilty of Things

  67. that he was guilty of, but it's even worse.

  68. As the great Apostle Paul would convey to them.

  69. When the entire congregation, the entire group were not

  70. willing to do anything about not disturbed about, or even they

  71. were puffed up about their condition at the very beginning.

  72. Part of First Corinthians, chapter 5 and verse 1.

    1 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  73. Paul says these words, he said it is reported commonly that

  74. there is fornication among You and such fornication as is not

  75. so much as named among the Gentiles.

  76. That one should have his father's wife.

  77. I understand that the word commonly here as defined by mr.

  78. Robinson, and also Thayer, it is defined as everywhere or

  79. commonly, strong, defines it as altogether.

  80. So in other words, this was an act that everyone knew about

  81. this was not something that was going on.

  82. Behind the scenes that was private and only one or two

  83. folks knew about it. This was something that was

  84. commonly known throughout the entire Convoy congregation the

  85. revised Standard Version. Renders.

  86. This verse like this, it is actually reported that there is

  87. immorality among you and of the kind that is not found.

  88. Even among pagans for a man is living with his father's wife.

  89. The word fornication in our text is defined as illicit relations

  90. of a sexual nature according to Thayer, it is defined by strong

  91. as Harlot re which includes adultery and incest.

  92. Historically, speaking, we are told that acts of fornication

  93. were prevalent among the Corinthian Gentiles.

  94. However, the specific act that this brother was guilty of was

  95. something that was even considered among the Greeks and

  96. Romans. Those pagans as That was

  97. infallible. There was no one that would be

  98. guilty of such things even when they would support other forms

  99. of sexual immorality. Because this involved a man and

  100. his father's wife and that is considered to be incest.

  101. Now, acts of incest have always been strongly forbidden, not

  102. only by the Christian standards, but also by the law of Moses

  103. Moses said, in Leviticus chapter 18 and Verse 8, the nakedness of

    Leviticus 18 chapter mention

  104. thy father's wife, shall bow, not uncover, it is thy father's

  105. nakedness. The same instruction is also

  106. repeated in the long ago in the book of Deuteronomy, the 22nd

  107. chapter and in verse 30. Where the Bible says, a man

  108. shall not take his father's wife under the law of Moses.

  109. The penalty for such hideous sins was nothing shallow or

  110. nothing short of death. In Leviticus chapter 20 and

    Leviticus 20 chapter mention

  111. verse 11. The Bible says the man that

  112. lieth with his father's wife, hath uncovered, his father's

  113. nakedness, both of them, surely be put to death, their blood

  114. shall be upon them. The Apostle Paul says that even

  115. the Gentiles would not have even done this, surely not even the

  116. Gentiles would have their father's wife.

  117. You know, that word have their that phrase have their Others

  118. wife. That phrase is translated from

  119. the Greek from a Greek phrase which means to have or use a

  120. woman unlawfully as a wife. That's what this man was guilty

  121. of. He was guilty of having a woman

  122. unlawfully as a wife. I believe that the phrase his

  123. father's wife though, refers to someone other than his mother.

  124. Even though the Apostle Paul does not make the Distinction

  125. between a mother or a stepmother here in the Old Testament

  126. Scriptures, it does make the distinction between the two

  127. notice. In Leviticus chapter 18 and

    Leviticus 18 chapter mention

  128. verse 7, the bible says, the nakedness of thy mother shalt

  129. thou, not uncover. She is thy mother.

  130. Thou shalt not uncover, her nakedness.

  131. But we've already read in the very next verse in the

  132. eighteenth chapter of The Book of Leviticus, Us and verse 8.

  133. Now, the nakedness of thy father's wife, shalt, thou, not

  134. uncover It Is by father's nakedness and so therefore, it

  135. is more likely, I believe that this case involves a man who has

  136. taken unlawfully his stepmother and not his natural mother, for

  137. the reasons that thus. Given the Apostle Paul says, in

  138. verse two, then he addresses their wrongful attitude toward

  139. the man. You know, that tells me right

  140. there that Not only was the things that this man was guilty

  141. of hideous and horrible but also there's something other that

  142. needs to be described here. There's something else.

  143. Paul doesn't just say addressing this one man sin, he's

  144. addressing now their attitude, their wrongful attitude and

  145. their wrongful acceptance of this brother who was guilty of

  146. such a horrible thing. Notice In verse 2, he did

  147. addresses that wrongful attitude and he said, you should have

  148. been morning. You should be saddened.

  149. You should be absolutely overwhelmed with sorrow that you

  150. have that. You have a man among your midst

  151. in the midst of your congregation, that is guilty of

  152. this. But he said this not only did

  153. you accept it, but your puffed up about it, you're proud of it

  154. and so on. When you should have rather,

  155. Burned or lamented over the wicked character.

  156. They were puffed up over that, even this shameful incestuous

  157. relationship that was among them.

  158. Did not even moderate their self esteem.

  159. Paul, then says, I am absent in body, but present in spirit.

  160. And therefore, I have judged already as if I were present.

  161. Let me just notice with you. Something here about this verse

  162. Some Scholars said, well, what Paul was saying is is because he

  163. was an inspired man inspired by the Holy Spirit.

  164. He could be absent from body away from that congregation away

  165. from their midst and be able to judge accordingly as if he was

  166. there. Other scholar says that what he

  167. was saying is that he was saying that this is so obvious, you

  168. should have seen it. It's as clear as the nose on

  169. your face. You should have been able to

  170. discern in this. Matter, you should have been

  171. able to judge in this matter but you have not.

  172. And so what he's saying is, I am outside of the body where you

  173. are. I'm not present with you.

  174. I'm present in spirit and I've judged already like I was there

  175. either way. It's quite obvious that they

  176. should have known what to do and if they didn't know the steps of

  177. discipline, they surely should have known to reject this man

  178. for doing the things that he had done.

  179. And as a Result of this the Apostle Paul pronounces, the

  180. sentence by the authority of Jesus Christ.

  181. The first specification though, there are three things we got to

  182. notice the very first specification is it's to be done

  183. when they the church are gathered together.

  184. You know, this teaches me tonight that no final Act of

  185. discipline can be done. Except when the church has met

  186. together. Now, what time or place that

  187. this is, whether it's talking about, Some Scholars said it's

  188. talking about when they would normally come together in the

  189. assembly. I know one thing I know when

  190. they all came together in the assembly, that would be

  191. acceptable because that would be a time when they all came

  192. together, whether Paul was saying, have a separate meeting

  193. and all of you come together. We really don't know.

  194. What Paul is saying is the very first thing specified.

  195. Is you are going to pass down this judgment to this brother

  196. when you are come together as the body of Christ.

  197. When Church has come together. That's the time that you're

  198. going to do this. Secondly, and when they would do

  199. this, the Apostle Paul informs them that his spirit will be

  200. with them in this great and solemn action, which would be

  201. true of all congregational actions that are according to

  202. Apostolic teaching and that ladies and gentlemen, would

  203. apply to you. And I today thirdly, moreover,

  204. this action would be backed up by the power.

  205. Of the Lord Jesus Christ, so that it could never be

  206. considered as an act of personal revenge on the part of the

  207. Brethren. And so, here comes the verdict.

  208. He gave the specifications. And now comes the verdict.

  209. This is the verdict that Paul has going to pass down that must

  210. be made by the congregation also to coincide with what he said in

  211. the second letter and second Corinthians 2 and 6 that Maybe

  212. the action of many notice. This form of discipline is the

  213. action of. Not, just one man, not just to

  214. men, but this is the action of many.

  215. It's to be done congregationally when they come together.

  216. Now, here's the verdict. Sounds rather harsh, doesn't it?

  217. Here's the verdict deliver. Such an one unto Satan for the

  218. destruction of the flesh. This phrase, according to fair,

  219. is to give over into one's power or use.

  220. That's what he's saying. Deliver this one into the use or

  221. power of the prince and power of Darkness, The Prince and power

  222. of the are being Satan himself. Mr. Thayer further explains it

  223. in this place as follows, the phrase seems to have originated

  224. from the Jewish formula of Excommunication.

  225. Because when a person is banished from the assembly, he

  226. was regarded as deprived of the protection of God and delivered

  227. up to the power of the devil. What's the idea?

  228. Very simply the ideal is that by expelling him from the

  229. congregation, it may cause him to realize the terrible

  230. condition that he is in on account of having lived for the

  231. gratifications of his fleshly desires.

  232. And as a alt he will be his crucifying of the flesh with the

  233. affections and lust as Paul said in Galatians chapter 5.

    Galatians 5 chapter mention

  234. And verse 24. Then we just insert something

  235. here as we did on a number of occasions this morning, let me

  236. just insert here. The idea is to restore the

  237. brother. And by the way, what seems to be

  238. very harsh and what would seem to be absolutely ridiculous in

  239. the world's eyes today, especially in the religious

  240. world for the church to take a stand such as that.

  241. I'm going to tell you something. It worked and if you reach

  242. Second Corinthians in the second letter, we find that this

  243. brother Stood and I'll tell you something.

  244. This is God's plan. Now man's Wisdom.

  245. I might think no, wait a minute. That might be a little harsh.

  246. I think I'll just do it this other way.

  247. That's what man thinks God's way worked God's way of does work.

  248. But there's another reason too, and I'll get to you that a

  249. little bit later of why we would put one outside of the

  250. congregation for that. The phrase delivered on just

  251. Satan is not anything new by Paul Paul used.

  252. In another time you remember and First Timothy chapter 1 and

    1 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  253. verses 19 and 20, where he says holding faith and a good

  254. conscience which having which having which some having put

  255. away concerning Faith, hath made shipwreck of whom is hymenaeus.

  256. Us and Alexander, who might have delivered unto Satan that they

  257. may learn not to blaspheme. That's the reason they needed to

  258. learn something they needed to change their ways.

  259. So he said he delivered them over to Satan, he rejected them.

  260. He separated himself from them, that they might learn a lesson.

  261. A lesson is this the lesson is for him to repent.

  262. Stop doing those things. And be saved in the day of the

  263. Lord. The obvious outcome that Paul

  264. desired. Is that the brother would

  265. because of the church's actions, repent and put himself in a

  266. position to be restored to The Fellowship of the Saints where

  267. he can so live that his Spirit or his Immortal being may be

  268. saved when the Lord comes again. Next.

  269. We find that these Corinthians were so full of Pride over there

  270. supposed strength that they seem to think that, A simple case of

  271. wickedness would not hurt them spiritually.

  272. But then Paul uses the illustration of Levin to show

  273. how this complacent attitude was wrong.

  274. And in this illustration, it would certainly make sense to

  275. all those. That would understand a little

  276. something about leather. And there was enough, Jewish

  277. Christians in the area, they'd understand about Levin.

  278. You know what else? There were Gentiles that were

  279. watching Jews when they were practicing.

  280. Under Jewish law to understand, also, the Jew and Levin, and

  281. they would understand phrases like Purge out the old.

  282. Leaven, they would understand that about getting rid of Leaven

  283. someone that would bake something would know this too.

  284. And I think that's what Paul's message is here.

  285. Notice if you're going to make a loaf of bread, and the bread is

  286. going to be this big. You don't have to have Levin.

  287. That is this big? You only have to have leaven

  288. that is ever so small. Mall.

  289. And it will leaven the whole lump.

  290. It will expand. It will grow, and it will

  291. overtake it, and it will make the entire loaf rise.

  292. You see what he's saying? He's not talking about bread, is

  293. he he's saying that something that you people are looking at

  294. that? You don't consider could harm

  295. you or hurt you as the body of Christ in any way because this

  296. is just one offense, one offending brother.

  297. You were looking at this like it could not harm you or hurt you

  298. but let Tell you a little something about Levin and that's

  299. what Paul gives as an example. Oh, they could understand this.

  300. They can understand this greatly, likewise one bad

  301. character. Who is permitted to remain in a

  302. congregation will finally defile the whole body.

  303. You know, this coincides with something.

  304. He said later in this letter in 1st Corinthians, 15 and 33.

  305. Paul said, evil Communications. Corrupt, good manners.

  306. And so, Paul has introduced the subject of Leaven for the

  307. purpose of illustration, you know, I'll just mention this

  308. though because they could understand this and exodus 12,

  309. it talks about purging out the old leaven here, notice the

  310. connection, notice how it fits. You remember that, at the time

  311. of the Feast of the Passover, in the seven days following, The

  312. Jews were required to put away, leaven out of their houses.

  313. Exodus 12 and verse 15 in order that they might keep their feast

  314. acceptably. That's the whole point.

  315. They had to get rid of the leaven in order to have their

  316. feast acceptably. What's he talking about now?

  317. He's talking about doing something, you got to do

  318. something. Now, you as the body of Christ,

  319. you as the church at Corinth, do something in that your feast or

  320. your service would be acceptable to notice.

  321. Paul uses this language on this occasion for the instructions to

  322. these Brethren. He says Purge out therefore the

  323. old leaven and that is purged out that Wicked fornicator and

  324. when they would do that, they would be a new lump.

  325. Meaning the church would be free from the leaven of this wicked

  326. man. And in so doing, they would

  327. become fit for the service of our Lord and Savior Jesus

  328. Christ. Having now the education become

  329. on leavened. I know sometimes we don't think

  330. that outer influences affect us so but they do, let me just say

  331. this to, we know, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if we

  332. leave these doors and go through our week, And in all of our

  333. associations, if we are completely Associated and

  334. surrounded with worldly things, we know that's going to weigh us

  335. down. We understand that.

  336. But the church God's people is our place of Refuge that stuff

  337. can never go on here. And Paul said, you have to do a

  338. couple of things. First of all, there's a couple

  339. of reasons. Number one, you have to have

  340. your set your service be acceptable.

  341. So you got to be unleavened. You got a purge out?

  342. The old leaven now, what are you?

  343. You're a new New lump, you are fit for the service as they were

  344. in the book of Exodus as well under the Old Law of Moses. and

  345. it will not influence you as the body of Christ negatively by

  346. doing so, Paul is telling them to treat this brother, who is a

  347. fornicator in the very same way that God will treat him.

  348. Paul is saying how you do it. You don't keep company with and

  349. that word means you don't be intimate with them.

  350. You don't associate with them, Paul said in Ephesians 5 and

  351. verse 5, he said for this, you know, that no whoremonger or

  352. unclean person or Covetous, man, who is an idolater hath any

  353. inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and of God to the

  354. Thessalonians. Paul said you remember have no

  355. company with but any but with those but he said this, here's

  356. the reason that they may be ashamed of the evil Deeds that

  357. they have committed. Now he says, don't keep company

  358. with the fornicator, but we're not talking about those that are

  359. in the world. We have to live among them.

  360. We live in the world. We're not of the world, that's

  361. what's different. We have to live among them.

  362. We have to go out and work possibly for a boss that is

  363. guilty of fornication. We might be in a classroom of

  364. students and have a teacher that's guilty of fornication.

  365. We may have all manner of associations in the world that

  366. we have no say in In that we have to do something with them

  367. or have something to do with them in our daily lives.

  368. But Paul is saying this as that is impossible, to make sure that

  369. you rid yourself from any fornicator in this world.

  370. There's something you can do though if one be called a

  371. brother, if one is a Christian and that's what he says.

  372. And he says, but I have written unto you not to keep Company If

  373. any man that is called a brother, be a fornicator.

  374. Or Covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an

  375. extortioner with such an one. No, not to eat the phrase to eat

  376. is from a word, which they are defines to eat with to take food

  377. together with the word refers to the physical act of partaking of

  378. material food, the application to you.

  379. And I today's this the application would be not to

  380. participate with them in any Any act or any association that

  381. would indicate a social recognition?

  382. That's what it means. You know, when I invite somebody

  383. into my home. And we sit down and we have

  384. something to eat together. I am saying that this person is

  385. in association with me. That's an intimate thing.

  386. Somebody comes into my home, they sit at my table.

  387. They eat food that my wife had fixed and we sit there together

  388. and we eat. I am basically in essence doing

  389. this. I am taking my signature and I

  390. am signing my name to the behavior of this brother.

  391. If this brother is guilty of these sinful acts and he comes

  392. to my house, And I accept him in that way.

  393. How is he ever going to feel ashamed?

  394. So that he repents, you know, I made a little quick thing this

  395. morning about how we handled folks that are out of Duty and

  396. so on and so forth. And let me just say this to, I

  397. don't believe if somebody's out of Duty, say you have a family

  398. member that's out of Duty, but they're not guilty of these

  399. sinful things that Paul describes here.

  400. I don't know that they're violating a scripture by

  401. associating with them in a social setting.

  402. But let me just say this, may I ask you something.

  403. If you have somebody that you dearly loved, that is not living

  404. right? And there are Christian and you

  405. have complete association with them and you socialize with them

  406. and are intimate with them. And every way, How are they ever

  407. going to feel the need to come back?

  408. you know, in the story of the prodigal, the father loved him

  409. so much. He longed for him and I would

  410. just imagine he stood on that porch and waited and waited and

  411. waited and looked and wanted him to come back.

  412. But you know what happened? With this young man, when he

  413. finally finds himself among those pigs, do you remember, he

  414. thought of two things, didn't eat two things?

  415. What did he realized, you? Remember, you remember what he

  416. recognized? He realized number one, where he

  417. was and number two, where he was not the third thing.

  418. He says, my father has servants that have food and to spare and

  419. I perish with Hunger. I hear The purposing will arise

  420. and I will go to my father. But, what if?

  421. What if there was never associate a separation of that

  422. Association that fellow has the best of both worlds, doesn't he?

  423. That's the danger of that, that's what I mean.

  424. When I said what I said when somebody says all let me just

  425. throw one right back to you Frank.

  426. What if it's Taylor and Tanner? That's what I meant this

  427. morning. What if I just pray that I would

  428. love them enough to do what's right?

  429. And just maybe just maybe they will feel the separation and

  430. come back. You know, if you want to know

  431. who the greatest kids in the world are I'll tell you later.

  432. You know, how I feel about those little guys of mine.

  433. And as a preacher said, one time, I may lose my kids to the

  434. devil and I hope and pray. That doesn't happen, but it will

  435. not be before the fight. Not tell you something.

  436. If they get the best of both worlds, we give them.

  437. Absolutely no reason to return. That's why folks not out of

  438. hatred out of real love. Real love in conclusion of this

  439. chapter Paul clearly expect explains the course of action

  440. that the congregation is to take toward a brother.

  441. That's guilty of immorality. Six things real quick.

  442. Take him away from among you verse 2 number to deliver such

  443. an one unto Satan verse 53. Purge out the old leaven verse 7

  444. for not to keep company with him.

  445. Verse 9 5 with such an one. No not to eat verse 11.

  446. And finally verse 13, put away from among you, that Wicked

  447. person the removal of this immoral person has a two-fold

  448. purpose. Number one, it's done to keep

  449. the church pure and that's what we're a part of folks.

  450. And we need to keep it pure, we need to keep it acceptable.

  451. How do we do that? We get rid of any old.

  452. Leaven number two. As we've said that he Recognizes

  453. error. And therefore, by be saved in

  454. the day of the Lord Jesus. Incidentally, I'll just say

  455. this, Paul refers to this, man. Again, the second letter pretty

  456. harsh here, isn't it? You know, what he says?

  457. When he repented you accept him, you love him.

  458. You forgive him that he might be, or might not be overtaken

  459. with overmuch sorrow. Listen, folks, when somebody

  460. makes it right, we need to embrace them and encourage them,

  461. strengthen them and do whatever. Guilt is a horrible thing.

  462. I was studying with the young lady this week, one of our new

  463. members and she said, sometimes the guilt just doesn't go away.

  464. When somebody has things in the past in their life, that they're

  465. not proud of, they know they're forgiving, but sometimes the

  466. guilt just doesn't go away. Well, listen, if God, can

  467. forgive me, I need to forgive myself.

  468. That's a, that's not a very strong suit of mine, but as they

  469. say, that's a whole nother Oprah.

  470. It's a whole nother deal, but I'm working on that.

  471. But sometimes the guilt is so strong.

  472. It can overcome us even though we know we've been forgiven.

  473. So what do we do? Brothers and sisters, we embrace

  474. them. We love them and we encourage

  475. them. Because now they're doing that,

  476. which is right quickly. Now, one more thing that Paul

  477. talks about in Titus 3, he talks about a man.

  478. That's a heretic wonder what that is.

  479. A heretic. A heretic Paul, says, first of

  480. all, in verse 10, a man that is a heretic after the first and

  481. second admonition, reject knowing that he, that is such

  482. subverted and sinneth being condemned of himself.

  483. This word heretic appears only this one time in all the New

  484. Testament. Scriptures.

  485. The words heresy though or heresies are found in other

  486. places of scripture in the New Testament, like acts 24 and 14.

  487. First Corinthians, eleven nineteen, Galatians, 5 and 20

  488. and second, Peter 2 and verse 1. Mr. Vine defines heresy, as

  489. that, which is chosen, hence an opinion, especially a self Build

  490. opinion which is substituted for submission to the power of Truth

  491. and leads to division and formation of sect or a party.

  492. It carries the meaning of choice and the word denotes, a person

  493. who chooses to follow erroneous opinions at the expense of the

  494. unity of the body of Christ. The word heretic refers to one

  495. who creates the Or faction by teaching opinions.

  496. A heretic would appear as we look in the case of Titus.

  497. A heretic that Paul might be referring to to Titus would

  498. appear to be someone who was dissatisfied with the doctrines

  499. that are found in the word of God, the apostles Doctrine, the

  500. preaching of Titus and would reject what he had said and said

  501. and basically I am dissatisfied with what Tidus is preaching and

  502. the doctrine he's delivering so So I am going to gather others

  503. around me who also are dissatisfied and we're going to

  504. create a party within the body. We're going to create a sect

  505. within the body. That is a heretic.

  506. Now, more about that. Not only does he have erroneous

  507. opinions but he propagates them and creates contentions over

  508. them. He's the same kind of person who

  509. causes divisions and offenses. Among you as Paul said in Romans

  510. 16 and 17, let me just say this because this is really

  511. important. Because somebody has a

  512. misunderstanding. About a passage of scripture.

  513. And preaches it with the right heart and spirit.

  514. He just as wrong on the subject that in itself, does not make

  515. him a heretic or a false teacher.

  516. We gave a whole lot of definitions about this fella.

  517. First of all, it's a choice he's making he is making a choice at

  518. the expense of that which is right.

  519. And Paul knew that and Paul told Titus about this fella, this

  520. type of person and what they're doing is they're going to reject

  521. Eject the truth, they're going to go amongst the body of

  522. Christ. They're going to cause divisions

  523. and offenses and so on and they're going to draw into

  524. themself a faction or sect of people that also are

  525. dissatisfied and love. Not the truth.

  526. As Paul said in second Thessalonians chapter 2, got to

    2 Thessalonians 2 chapter mention

  527. love the truth. You can love the truth and make

  528. a mistake. You can love the truth, and

  529. teach something wrong, and not be a heretic, big difference

  530. between someone that's mistaken. And someone who is a heretic, a

  531. heretic also is more than a person who has an erroneous

  532. opinion, but he uses the opinions to create that group,

  533. he is a factious person, creating a division in the

  534. church, Galatians 1 inverse. 9, the Apostle Paul said, in one of

  535. the few passages of scripture that repeats itself in

  536. Galatians, chapter 1, beginning in verse 8, Paul says he says,

    Galatians 1 chapter mention

  537. but if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that, which

  538. we have preached unto you let him be accursed as we said

  539. before. So, say I now again, if any man

  540. preach any other gospel unto you than that, ye have received, let

  541. him be accursed. Let him be separated from God.

  542. Well, what he says here is after the first and second admonition,

  543. you reject, the Greek word, reject means to beg off or

  544. refuse. It means to avoid all

  545. association with him. Paul is instructing the church

  546. to refuse or turn away from the one, who would create the

  547. faction. The congregation would no longer

  548. extend a hand of Fellowship to him as a faithful brother.

  549. Paul says, these people People are to be marked and avoided

  550. Romans 16 and 17. Paul tells Titus to admonish

  551. twice, then if he remained factious or continued to Foster

  552. division, he was to be shunned and avoided and then in verse

  553. 11, In verse 11, he says knowing this knowing that he that is

  554. such is subverted and sinneth being condemned of himself.

  555. The word subverted means this. Here's the reason, here's the

  556. reason The word subverted means to turn aside from the proper

  557. course. That's what that word means.

  558. If I am some subverted, it means I've turned by way of Choice, by

  559. definition, I have purposely chosen to turn from the proper

  560. course, and there's only one proper course.

  561. Now something else, if I've turned from the proper course,

  562. it means I'm heading in a direction that I am lost without

  563. hope until I what I changed. The course, I changed my course

  564. of action, and as long as I am, subverted turn from that and

  565. heading in that direction, there is no hope.

  566. So, something desperately has to be done.

  567. I have to be woken up that I might return and get on the

  568. proper course. Nothing outside of the proper

  569. course can be, right? It follows that when a man

  570. leaves that course, he sins as is here stated.

  571. And finally Finally, get this. He is condemned of himself. if

  572. that is not a mouthful of personal accountability, I don't

  573. know what is he's purposely chosen to take the improper

  574. course. At the sake of loving, what was

  575. right? And now he is condemned of

  576. himself. This doesn't mean that he

  577. accepts his wrong either. You know what this means, he's

  578. made the choice, and he is lost, and it's his fault, because

  579. that's the path that he chose. That's a heretic, folks.

  580. He's condemned by the things that he himself is doing and he

  581. made a conscious choice to do. So three things, personal sin,

  582. one sins against another. We learned that, what you do,

  583. those are the steps of Matthew, 18, and only Matthew 18.

  584. And the idea is so that folks will come to the realization

  585. that they're lost in that sand, make it right and save the

  586. greatest possession they have and that's their sole one.

  587. That's living in an immoral. In moral environment one that's

  588. doing immoral acts. First Corinthians 5, we notice

  589. exactly what we're to do there to wear to reject those and

  590. Purge out the old leaven so that they will see the need to come

  591. back and also keep the body of Christ pure and finally the

  592. heretic who's chosen this path after the first and second

  593. admonition. Reject.

  594. You know, Bible talks about God is love, I have a talks about

  595. wonderful things, it does. But it also talks about

  596. disciplinary things as well. Let us never Embrace wrong at

  597. the expense of doing that which is right.
