  1. It's good to see everybody here tonight.

  2. We've got a smaller crowd and we need to continue to pray that

  3. the crowds will grow as this weekend continues.

  4. Well, you know that there are some journeying to this place.

  5. Let's pray that they have a safe journey if God gives us time.

  6. And we're thankful to have our visitors with us here this

  7. evening. And we want you to know you're

  8. welcome at any time to be with us.

  9. Please, if you have any questions about the message

  10. tonight or the worship, please just ask and we'll try to give

  11. an answer for The hope that lies within us first Peter 3:15, we

    1 Peter 3:15

  12. are trying to do things that please God here.

  13. We're trying to teach things that are in accordance with his

  14. will and not just have a Social Club.

  15. There are many things in this world that are designed to

  16. support Society, but the church is designed to give glory to God

  17. and we support Society by doing that, but that's not its initial

  18. design. Its design is to glorify God, it

  19. is the beautiful bride of Christ.

  20. Which glue Glory to the one who purchased it by his blood.

  21. And so tonight we're thankful that you're here and we hope

  22. that what we have to say will be helpful to you in.

  23. I, in some way. Let's summarize tonight.

  24. We're going to try to summarize all of our thoughts on change

  25. and tomorrow night. We're planning on teaching a

  26. little something different, come back and be with us tomorrow.

  27. But we're going to wrap up our thoughts that we've been

  28. teaching on in this week and that is been the necessity for

  29. change. We've we've looked intently at

  30. acts 17 verse 30, where they're the Bible says, God is

    Acts 17:30

  31. commanding all men everywhere to repent.

  32. We've looked at that word repentance, which means to

  33. change, it's not a word, repent isn't a word.

  34. We use to mean change in our common language, but repentance

  35. the word god uses to bring about change in our life.

  36. It means a change of Direction on a change of loyalty.

  37. And most of all a very Real change in our behavior and

  38. priorities, we're going to be looking at tonight as well.

  39. It makes a change in our world view on our Outlook, our goals

  40. and those are something that are very important for us to change

  41. in this world. If there was no need for us for

  42. to change, then Jesus command in Acts 17:30 mean is meaningless

    Acts 17:30

  43. and Jesus Christ. Coming was seems to be

  44. meaningless because God wants us to not sin any longer.

  45. Anger, not live, according to the flesh, but live reflecting.

  46. The fact that we were created by a Creator.

  47. Our soul is imitating, is in some ways similar to God.

  48. In John 4, verse 23, and 24. The Bible says, God is spirit

    John 4:23

  49. and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and Truth.

  50. Well, that's part of our nature that is similar to God.

  51. God is called in Hebrews, for the Hebrews, excuse me. 12, the

  52. father of spirits, God is the father of our spirits.

  53. And for those who are Christians, he is the father of

  54. which we expect an inheritance and eternal inheritance in

  55. heaven. So, this week, we've been

  56. looking at the changes that it takes in order to become a

  57. Christian. Christian means follower of

  58. Jesus Christ. We've got to change those

  59. aspects of our life. That Christ did not leave us an

  60. example to change. We've looked at passages such as

  61. Ephesians, the fourth chapter right quick, we're just going to

  62. notice these and Ephesians chapter 4, notice it Says in

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  63. verse 20, you did not learn Christ in this way, notice

  64. indeed, if you have heard of him and have been taught in him,

  65. just as the truth is, in Jesus that in reference to your former

  66. manner of life. You lay aside the old self,

  67. which is being corrupted in accordance with the lust of

  68. Deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind and

  69. put on the new self, which is in the likeness of God, and has

  70. been created in righteousness and Holiness of the truth, So

  71. there's real if you will a description of the change that

  72. must take place, he says we've got to put away the old self and

  73. put on the new self or lay aside The Old Man and live a new life

  74. in Christ Jesus. We've talked about the

  75. difference between the inner and the outer man.

  76. We've talked about the Flesh and the spirit this week as well.

  77. We've talked about we're going to talk more at link tonight

  78. about those things above and things that are of this world.

  79. World as well. This is a change of perspective

  80. and this is something that is an essential.

  81. If you will primary foundational, truth in

  82. Christianity, those who are in Christ, have a different.

  83. Hope we have different priorities based on different

  84. objectives and the Bible tells us that we're supposed to lay

  85. aside, the things that are of this Earth if you'll turn to

  86. Colossians 3:1 right quickly in Colossians 3 verse 1, he's To

    Colossians 3:1 Colossians 3:1

  87. newborn Christians and he there makes a conditional statement

  88. and tells us all to reflect on our baptism, if you will.

  89. Now this is interesting. I want to show you that he's

  90. talking about baptism and just a moment but notice what he says

  91. here in Colossians the third chapter verse 1.

  92. Therefore if you've been raised up with Christ now I want you to

  93. look at that phrase. If you've been raised up with

  94. Christ, what's that talking about?

  95. Is it talking about? Someone's just decision to

  96. follow Christ. As a philosophy teacher, is it

  97. talking about somebody who's made a decision to become a

  98. disciple or a learner from? Jesus Christ?

  99. No In this passage whenever he uses the term raised up.

  100. He's talking about baptism, if you will look back at chapter 2

  101. just the previous chapter chapter 2 and verse 12.

  102. Well, let's start reading verse 11.

  103. And in him you were also circumcised with a circumcision

  104. made without hands and the removal of the body of the flesh

  105. by the circumcision of Christ. Having been buried with him in

  106. baptism in which you were also raised up with him through

  107. faith, in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

  108. Now this is what he's talking about here.

  109. He says you have to be raised up with him.

  110. That's an important phrase and he talks About.

  111. That's how we get United with him in the likeness of his

  112. death. Romans 6 verse 3, really

    Romans 6:3

  113. starting read verse 1. Through verse 6 of Romans, 6

  114. chapter it, basically teaches the same thing that were United

  115. with Christ in the likeness of his death, burial and

  116. Resurrection in baptism whenever we come and we die to our old

  117. life of sin are immersed in water and raised up to walk in

  118. newness of life. Isn't that wonderful?

  119. That's what's being talked about here and it says this This

  120. person who is trusting in God and baptism, is not trusting

  121. that the water washes away, anything.

  122. You know, that's something interesting about baptism before

  123. we go on the Bible tells us, it's not the element of water

  124. that is Holy in, baptism. There's nothing in the water.

  125. Unlike those beer commercials there's nothing really important

  126. about the water other than it's a it's an element that we are

  127. immersed in so it doesn't have to be holy water that somehow

  128. Water itself is affections and taking away sin.

  129. No, that's not it and it's not even us in baptism, you know,

  130. the Bible doesn't, you know, it's really interesting when

  131. people begin to talk about the Plan of Salvation.

  132. They say now listen, the Bible says salvation in Ephesians,

  133. it's not of Works. Lest any man should boast and

  134. baptism is a work there for baptism is not be essential, but

  135. guess what? The Bible takes pains to tell us

  136. that baptism is not our work. Notice what he Says, right here,

  137. again, verse 12 having been buried with him in baptism in

  138. which you were raised up with him through faith in the working

  139. of God. God does the working in baptism?

  140. It's not man. Whenever a man does his own

  141. believing. The Bible says Jesus said,

  142. unless you believe I am, he you shall die in your sins, in John

  143. 6, and he tells us to do our own repenting.

  144. It's our responsibility to repent acts 17:30.

    Acts 17:30

  145. It's our responsibility. Us ability to confess Christ.

  146. Matthew 10:32, whoever shall confess me before men him?

    Matthew 10:32

  147. Will I confess before my Father, which is in heaven, but when it

  148. comes to baptism, you have to submit to somebody else.

  149. If baptism is a work, it's somebody else's work and that

  150. and we have to submit. We are most passive in baptism,

  151. but the Bible says, the person doing the work of baptism is God

  152. It says, through faith in the working of God.

  153. God is the one who washes away sin and first, Peter, 3, and

  154. verse 21. The Bible says, the baptism is

  155. not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but an

  156. appeal of a good conscience toward God.

  157. It's not, it's not that out of the water.

  158. It's obeying. God, it's where we meet.

  159. God, God meets us with salvation.

  160. Titus 2:11 says the grace of God, that brings salvation has

    Titus 2:11

  161. appeared unto all men. It's appeared to everybody.

  162. Then why isn't everybody saved? Because not everybody receives

  163. the gift. That's right.

  164. Not nobody can earn to earn it. Nobody can purchase it.

  165. The gift is offered to everyone but everyone has to receive a

  166. gift. A gift on received his not

  167. enjoyed. If I say your birthday, your

  168. birthday car is over at my house Frank and all you have to do is

  169. come get it. You say well, thank you Glenn

  170. and you never come. Get it for a month or two.

  171. I'm going to call you Up and say why haven't you come and picked

  172. up your car? Oh I know it's there.

  173. Thanks very much and I say but you're never going to enjoy it

  174. if you don't come get it. And that's what God says to man.

  175. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all

  176. men know the doctrine of predestination where God only

  177. elect some people to be saved. And so people will be lost is

  178. not true. Jesus said it's offered all

  179. Jesus. Tasted death for every man, God

  180. loves the whole world. First Timothy to God is not

  181. willing that any should perish but that all should All should

  182. come to repentance. God wants everybody to be saved,

  183. and it's offered to all but not everybody receives the gift.

  184. Well, Glenn, how do I receive the gift?

  185. Ah, how do you receive the gift in your faith?

  186. You repent of your sins. You confess his name before men

  187. and you're baptized for the remission of your sins Acts

    Acts 2:38

  188. 2:38. That's how you receive the gift,

  189. you obey the Lord and whenever you obey the Lord a baptism you

  190. are raised up to walk with him. Now let's go back.

  191. If you will to Colossians Colossians chapter 3, And let's

    Colossians 3 chapter mention

  192. begin. Let's talk about what we do.

  193. I do after we've been raised up with Christ Colossians 3 verse

    Colossians 3:1

  194. 1. Therefore if you've been raised

  195. up with Christ, like I said that's an illusion of baptism.

  196. Chapter 2 verse 12. He says, keep seeking the things

  197. above where Christ is seated, at the right hand of God, not the

  198. things that are on the earth for you have died and your life is

  199. hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life is

  200. revealed? Then you also Be revealed with

  201. him in glory. He says here not the things that

  202. are of the earth and it uses the word world.

  203. We're going to notice in first John 2 and just a moment these

  204. are similar are if you will send an M ideas, they're parallel

  205. metaphors. God says if we have been saved,

  206. if we have been baptized, that symbolizes a death to an old

  207. life, and a resurrection, to a life that has a new Direction.

  208. A new objective things that are set above, not the things that

  209. are on the earth, we have another objective, we have

  210. another goal, another Journey. We are heading in a different

  211. direction than people in this world are headed in.

  212. Is all your life's objectives are.

  213. They were Lee goals. Are all the things you want to

  214. accomplish or acquire, or all the things that you want to do

  215. with your life of a worldly nature.

  216. Are they have Worley accolades or worldly Rewards or do we have

  217. the, our life set toward those things that above are we laying

  218. up Treasures in Heaven or Treasures on Earth.

  219. This is a primary change of objective.

  220. For those who are in Christ This is a I marry change those who

  221. are Christians aren't looking for all of their rewards in this

  222. world. In fact God tells us that if we

  223. try to live Godly in Christ Jesus, we will suffer

  224. persecution here. And throughout history, this has

  225. been the case, we live in an unusual time in history, where

  226. Christians have the freedom to speak their mind, where

  227. Christians don't have. We don't have any fear right

  228. here. And right now of our faith,

  229. there are some brother and in foreign lands, Do I'll guarantee

  230. you some of our brethren in the South Philippines are scared for

  231. their life. And I just talked to Doug

  232. Edwards. Not like, who'd got back from

  233. India, he's been over there setting up some Churches and in

  234. eastern India, and some of their preachers.

  235. And some of their members get beat up for confessing Christ to

  236. Hindus. They get beat up.

  237. Now, this isn't just a nice story, it's nice to read about,

  238. it's something that has happened a long time ago.

  239. This happened just in the last few months.

  240. I You to think about that. Do you really have a fear of

  241. when you inviting someone to church?

  242. That somebody's going to say, you're why I'm going to beat you

  243. up for that. And not only that, the laws of

  244. the land are set up, not not to benefit you.

  245. In fact, you can be arrested by the law of the land for trying

  246. to evangelize a Hindu the laws of the land.

  247. You can be put in prison justly for confessing Christ or

  248. carrying a Bible to somebody who you didn't know, didn't want it.

  249. Now, that's what I'm talking about.

  250. We're talking about real persecution really today, but

  251. some people preach, what we call the health and wealth

  252. Christianity, and that is, if you're living right?

  253. Everything should be Rosy. And You have to do is just open

  254. your mailbox and money. Pours out my friends, God told

  255. us that we are not supposed to look to this world for our

  256. reward. He tells us to set up sites and

  257. sets our affections on things above not on things of this

  258. world. So this is a primary shift

  259. because often, where our heart is, where our treasure is, there

  260. will our heart be also where our treasure is so So, we've got to

  261. shift our treasure. From one of an Earthly nature,

  262. to one of a Eternal nature from a temporal to an eternal shift

  263. in priorities. We really must because that is

  264. so key to living a successful Christian life.

  265. Because what happens if you're like the brethren in Africa?

  266. What happens if you're like the brother in India who are not?

  267. Physically blessed, is your god, cursing, you in some way, are

  268. you cursed? Because you're not wealthy.

  269. No, God, never promised us Earthly wealth, he Promised us

  270. Heavenly wealth, he promised us Eternal reward.

  271. Not attempt reward, the Bible takes pains to tell us not to

  272. lay up Treasures on Earth. Where moth?

  273. Where moth not Moss, where moth and can corrupt it.

  274. We're thieves can break in and steal.

  275. But the lay up Treasures in Heaven.

  276. And so the Bible tells us to redirect our Ambitions, our

  277. Ambitions to spiritual Ambitions, please turn to First

  278. John, the second chapter right quick.

  279. I want you to know that this is a real priority of the heart.

  280. Here he tells us and he uses some terms here in 1st John that

  281. are that I think are real practical and telling us how to

  282. make this heart shift. First John uses the word love

  283. often. In fact the word love is used in

  284. first John 26 times. He uses the word love and we

  285. know what the word love carries with it.

  286. The baggage this world has word has with it.

  287. The word love, implies commitment, the word and love

  288. implies emotional attachment. The word love, implies a

  289. willingness to sacrifice for the good of the object love.

  290. In other words, we we want to, we love someone, we want to

  291. sacrifice for their welfare Philippians 2 3 through 5.

  292. That's what the word love entails and God uses the word

  293. here to talk about our priorities.

  294. Notice what he says, well I just want to show you how the word is

  295. used, and my friend, John uses it positively many times.

  296. Throughout the book look at 3:11, the this is the message

  297. which we have heard from the beginning.

  298. That we should love one another. Not as Cain who was the evil one

  299. and see. Brother.

  300. And for what reason did, he slay him?

  301. Because his deeds were evil and his brothers were righteous.

  302. Okay, heated, love. And because of that, in be

  303. gripped in and caused him to kill his brother.

  304. Notice. He says, in verse 13 do not be

  305. surprised Brethren if the world hates you.

  306. Right there, verse 13 verse John chapter 3.

    John 3 chapter mention

  307. So we know that we have passed out of death and life because we

  308. love the Brethren he who does not love abides in death.

  309. Oh, that love is important here and the Apostle.

  310. It, excuse me, John is making it very, very clear here, that who

  311. we love and how we love our. So, vitally, vitally important,

  312. and how we can't hate anyone, because if we hate, it's

  313. evidence of a lack of fellowship with God, God notice verse 16.

  314. We know love by this, that he lay down his life for us and we

  315. ought to lay down our lives for the Brethren.

  316. Well, this is talking about a real change, isn't it?

  317. Yeah, we've got a love the Brethren and he teaches this

  318. over and over. And again all the way through

  319. this passage, one of the things he says Here toward the end of

  320. this book is that we're not to love in word or in tongue, but

  321. in deed, and in truth. Well, all the way through.

  322. They are Verse 18, excuse me, 3:18 little children, let us not

  323. love with word or with tongue but in deed and in truth verse 7

  324. of chapter 4 brother--and, let us love one.

  325. Another for love is from God. So you see, he knows how to use

  326. this word but then there's a few times in this book that he uses

  327. it negatively that is that we're not supposed to look.

  328. He often says love, I want you to learn how to love.

  329. I Want to Love Like Jesus loved and then he says, oh and I want

  330. to tell Tell you, there's something that I don't want you

  331. to love as well. Notice if you will in 1st, John

    John 2 chapter mention

  332. Chapter 2, we're going to start reading with verse 15.

  333. Notice what he says right off the bat, do not love the world.

  334. This is something he says. I want you, you know how to

  335. love, and here's something. I don't want you to love.

  336. I don't want you to love the world.

  337. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in

  338. him. Whoa, this is pretty basic it.

  339. Evidently reflects salvation, he tells us this is such a great

  340. priority that if you can't change your heart here, it's an

  341. evidence that you don't know God.

  342. Now that's pretty good. That's pretty impressive.

  343. It's a real test. Notice for all that is in the

  344. world verse 16, the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the

  345. boastful pride of life is not from the father, but is from the

  346. world and the world is passing away and also its lusts, but the

  347. one who does the will of God lives forever.

  348. What all does this mean? What how can I know that?

  349. I don't love the world. I don't want to love the world

  350. after reading that he tells me stuff is specifically, I must

  351. not love the world. World.

  352. In other words, I've got to put this out of my life and make

  353. sure that I love those things that are above love, the proper

  354. things. How can I make sure?

  355. Well, let's study the word world for just a moment tonight.

  356. And see if we can get a real handle on this because this is

  357. so vitally. Vitally important, the word

  358. world is used, basically three ways in the scriptures, the word

  359. world, it's talking about three ideas.

  360. Now, we know how words can be used as Figures of speech.

  361. There are words that are used in our culture that don't don't

  362. survive. If you will a literal definition

  363. of their terminology, I remember back in the 60s, people used to

  364. say, well, that's really cool, you know?

  365. And what we don't do that anymore.

  366. We are kids, whenever we say, oh, that's really cool.

  367. Our kids go, man, that you're showing your age is showing your

  368. age. You know, that's not evening.

  369. And then I remember when listening to my kids and they

  370. said, man, that's really bad, that's really bad.

  371. And what does that mean? And that meant good.

  372. I finally figured that out something bad was good, that's

  373. really bad and then for a little while they use the world that's

  374. real fat. That was good, that was good.

  375. I still use that word that way. But anyway, the whole point is

  376. that what's what we're talking about is that words can have

  377. different meanings in the scriptures.

  378. Well, the word world has that same kind of Thing, the word

  379. world can apply to many many different than the one.

  380. One thing that we all expect is that the word word world

  381. sometimes is used in reference to the cosmos.

  382. And that is in reference to the planets, in reference to the

  383. sphere. The material sphere upon which

  384. we live. Let's, let's look at some of the

  385. passages. Notice the Bible says, in Acts

  386. 17 and verse 30 24, Mmm. Excuse me.

  387. Acts 17 verse 24. God it says The God Who made the

    Acts 17:24

  388. world and all things in it since he is, Lord of Heaven and Earth

  389. does not dwell in temples made with hands.

  390. Well, here in this verse the word world and all things in it,

  391. is talking about the literal dirt Planet.

  392. He's talking about this sphere and he says, God made the world

  393. and everything in it. He's talking about created

  394. things and he says, God made this word, although the world.

  395. Now in Romans 1 and verse 20, it's used this way and verse

  396. well contextually in Romans 1 verse 20.

    Romans 1:20

  397. For, since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes.

  398. His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen

  399. being understood through what has been made.

  400. So that they are without excuse here.

  401. He's talking about the created world as well.

  402. And he says this world is just the material world, the dirt,

  403. the planet itself. John is says this, this is,

  404. excuse me in these passages. The Bible is just talking about

  405. the material world that matters You will and notice.

  406. He says, that's something that God made.

  407. And after he looked on all that he had made, he said it was good

  408. but this can't be what John is talking about.

  409. And first, John 2, when he says love, not the world.

  410. It's not, it's not a sin to enjoy this world in this way.

  411. And the book in Acts 17 verse 24, the Bible says, God is Lord

    Acts 17:24

  412. of Heaven and Earth. There's nothing immoral or

  413. inconsistent. With God's creation, and with

  414. his nature, God, appreciated everything that he had made and

  415. called it good. In this world, God doesn't say.

  416. In order for us to live, here we as Christians have got to hate

  417. existing. I want to get that really

  418. playing because the gnostics at the time of Christ taught that

  419. very Doctrine and the book of Colossians was written to refute

  420. it. In other words, he they were

  421. teaching That God is all spirit and world is all evil is all

  422. carnal and they could not coexist.

  423. That's why they denied that, Jesus Christ came in the flesh

  424. because they could not believe that a spirit God would combine

  425. with this world. The world was evil.

  426. Spirit is all good and therefore, we should deny the

  427. flesh. We should all inflict pain on

  428. the Flesh and it somehow it showed spiritual superiority and

  429. Paul speaks. He says the severe treatment of

  430. the body is a false religion. He says it really is.

  431. Is and there's people who still believe that today that you

  432. ought to be a Hermit. You want to deny this flesh, and

  433. deny that God made anything pleasurable.

  434. As one writer said in history, a famous one, by the way, he said

  435. he believed God created everything from the waist up and

  436. the devil everything from the waist down, well that's not God.

  437. Looked at everything he made and said it was good.

  438. So man has taken worldly things and use them to create lust.

  439. Lust is unlawful desire, but the desires that we have in this

  440. world are not inherently evil. God looked on his creation and

  441. said it was good. So don't fall into the Gnostic

  442. trap. Don't fall into that trap of

  443. thinking. This world does not reflect God.

  444. The Bible says it does Romans 1, this world reflects God, Well,

  445. the hating, this world will lead people to commit suicide and and

  446. leads people drink Kool-Aid, Guyana and all kinds of things.

  447. The Bible doesn't say that is the sign of his followers.

  448. Know, there is a form of the love of this world that we're

  449. going to get to in a minute. That the Bible says is wrong,

  450. but God doesn't say, I want you to hate material existence but

  451. there's a second way in the word.

  452. The word world is used in the scriptures and And that is in a

  453. more symbolic sense. It refers to Mankind in general

  454. by naming the planet. In other words, it's metonymy,

  455. he names the planet to expect to be a.

  456. If you will suggest its inhabitants, John 3:16, one of

    John 3:16

  457. the verses that everybody knows and scriptures God.

  458. So loved the world. Well, it would be wrong to

  459. return, put that planet, excuse, they got ahead of myself, it

  460. would be wrong to interpret that statement that God loved the

  461. dirt of this world that God loved the dirt only and you

  462. know, people he just kind of tolerates.

  463. There's some people that, that practice, the worship of Nature

  464. and they literally teach the world would be.

  465. Better off all the people were dead off of it that we're one of

  466. the biggest environmental hazards in the history there.

  467. I know some tree huggers guys. It was grew up in Oregon, but

  468. the whole fact of the matter is is that's not what this passage

  469. is teaching when it says God, so loved the world.

  470. It's really not suggesting anything about the planet he's

  471. talking by metonymy about you and I, as inhabitants as

  472. inhabitants of this world, he's naming the planet or the Earth

  473. to suggest the people on the Earth when God so loved the

  474. world that he gave his only begotten son, notice the

  475. scriptures on this if You will in John 1 and verse 10.

  476. The Gospel of John chapter 1 and verse 10.

    John 1 chapter mention

  477. The Bible says, he was in the world and the world was made

  478. through him and the world did not know him.

  479. Now, 18 seems to suggest that it gives the dirt a suggestion of

  480. intellectual knowledge, or ability to know something.

  481. No, no. We know that the dirt doesn't

  482. have that kind of memory he's talking about people.

  483. He's saying the people didn't know him in that sense.

  484. In John 1 verse 29, go on down. The few verses to verse 29, the

    John 1:29

  485. next day he saw, Jesus coming to him and said, Behold the Lamb of

  486. God who takes away the sin All of the world.

  487. I didn't know that the planet could commit a sin.

  488. The Bible says in John, the first chapter that lost proceed

  489. sin and sin. When it is finished, bringeth

  490. forth, death, you mean the planet can lust, no, my friends,

  491. everything in this world obeys God's design except for man

  492. whenever an animal does what it does it's not lusting when a

  493. when a lion kills an antelope it does it's not a moral issue.

  494. You don't find lions with ulcers over worrying about the

  495. antelopes family. You don't find them going.

  496. Oh, my, what have I done? No, they kill because it's God's

  497. design, the everything else in the world.

  498. Every other creation of God does what it does by Design man, is

  499. the one who has guilt where the one who could commit moral and

  500. ethical sin, not this planet, and not even animals in this

  501. plan. Therefore, whenever it's saying

  502. takes away the sins of the world, he's talking about us by

  503. metonymy, he's talking about us, you and I and so he's not

  504. talking about this planet. He's talking about Mankind, in

  505. general notice, there are many other passages.

  506. That we could talk about tonight, but we're not going to

  507. have time to get to all them. Let's get to the what first John

  508. 2 is really talking about in first John.

  509. The second chapter whenever he says, love not the world,

  510. neither the things in the world. The word world is used in this

  511. sense of sin. If you have your Bibles, please

  512. open to Galatians chapter 6. And Galatians chapter 6 right

Galatians 6 chapter mention Galatians 6 chapter mention

  513. quick. Notice what he says, here in

  514. verse 14, may it never be that? I should boast except in the

  515. cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Christ through which the world

  516. has been crucified to me and I to the world.

  517. Now, what's he talking about here?

  518. He wasn't literally talking about this world or house.

  519. Paul Couldn't Write what he wrote.

  520. He would be dead. Whenever he used the word

  521. crucified here and use the word world.

  522. He's talking about choices and decisions and priorities.

  523. And he's saying there's a certain sphere that I have no

  524. life. I have died to that.

  525. I no longer live in and any sins.

  526. This is the type of the world that the Bible tells us not to

  527. love. It is talking about a world of

  528. sin and unrighteousness. It's talking about that, which

  529. is alien to God. It's talking about, Thing that

  530. God didn't create that dirt in it, it's talking about that,

  531. which man, engages in a world or atmosphere, or if you will a

  532. culture of sin, notice some other passages in James.

  533. The first chapter in verse 27, the word is used this way in

  534. James 1. And verse 27.

  535. The Bible says pure and undefiled religion in the sight

  536. of our god, father is this to visit orphans and widows in

  537. their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

  538. Now mother's you should not use this passage to tell your

  539. children not to get dirty because that's not what he's

  540. talking about. It is misusing the scriptures to

  541. apply it. So literally he is using here,

  542. the symbol of the world to suggest the sphere of sin and he

  543. says to keep oneself unstained from the world means to keep

  544. oneself out. Of the culture of sin out of

  545. this sphere of sin. So it is in this way that the

  546. world is used here in 1st John Chapter 2, If any man comes to

    John 2 chapter mention

  547. God he must not love the world of sin.

  548. He's not talking about loving your coffee, he's not talking

  549. about loving a sunset. He's not talking about loving

  550. your beautiful wife or beautiful husband or horse or anything

  551. else so your flowers are your roses Some people say, well,

  552. it's a sin to love anything in this world.

  553. That is not what first John. 2 is saying he's saying, don't you

  554. love sin, Christians have to hate sin.

  555. In fact, the Bible says it in very explicit terms, like that

  556. to love, God is to hate sin and evil and the wicked way that is

  557. the attitude. That is the kind of love.

  558. We're supposed to give up. If you will Romans 12 and verse

  559. 9 to a love, God is to abhor evil.

  560. And to love what is good? We've got to abhor evil.

  561. We've got to have an attitude change about evil.

  562. Hmm, let's look at a few other passages in James, 4, and verse

  563. 4. Just go over a few verses James

    James 4 chapter mention

  564. chapter 4 and verse 4, you adulteresses, do you not know

  565. that friendship with the world? There's that word world again.

  566. Friendship, is the world. Is hostility toward God.

  567. Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes

  568. Himself, an enemy of God. Does that mean we're not

  569. supposed to love the environment that we're not supposed to love

  570. other people who are in this world that are of a temporal

  571. nature? Once again, no, that's not what

  572. he's talking about. He's talking about loving sin,

  573. loving unrighteousness, loving wickedness, Desiring wickedness,

  574. wanting wickedness. He says, if you want to be a

  575. friend with the world, that is the sinful world, then you

  576. cannot be. A friend of God, you can't love

  577. God and sin at the same time. You've got to put one of them to

  578. death in your life. Notice in Matthew, the 6th

  579. chapter in verse 24. This concept is put just a

  580. little bit different terminology, Matthew 6, and

  581. verse 24. No, man can serve two masters

  582. for either. He will hate the one and love

  583. the other or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.

  584. You cannot serve God and wealth. Or Mammon is what the King James

  585. says, you can't serve both of these things.

  586. Well, who is your lord? Who is your god?

  587. Who do you try to be friends with?

  588. Here's if I'm going to sum up what I'm trying to say tonight

  589. is there's a lot of people in this world.

  590. Having a loving have a love affair with sin. and they want a

  591. love affair with sin, but they want the benefits of the

  592. Covenant. With God, they want heaven after

  593. all this world is over. They want to be married to God,

  594. but God says, listen in order to remain, married to me, you've

  595. got to be faithful, you've got to say forsaking all others.

  596. I will keep myself only unto him, but we want to carry on a

  597. love affair. After were married to God, we

  598. want to love the world and the things in the world.

  599. We want to sin, we want the pleasure of sin would your wife

  600. tolerate, that would your husband tolerate that well

  601. knowing God doesn't Either he says the church is the bride of

  602. Christ in the Book of Revelation.

  603. And he doesn't want his church to have a love affair with the

  604. world. We've got to break up.

  605. We got a break up, dating the world.

  606. We got to break up our relationship with the world.

  607. You we can't be married to Christ and still carry on a love

  608. affair with the world. We can't do it.

  609. Now if we, if that makes sense to us in this world.

  610. Can't we understand that spiritually?

  611. That makes sense. Spiritually, that makes sense.

  612. That's what the Bible says. You've got to forsake, your love

  613. affair with the world. You got to break up with the

  614. world, in order to have a great relationship with your husband

  615. Christ. He's the one that loves the

  616. church. He died for the church.

  617. Ephesians. 5 tells us Christ. Loved the church so much.

  618. He died for her. He paid a price for her and we

  619. need to be committed and devoted back to him.

  620. So, we've got to get out of loving the world.

  621. No man can serve two masters and my friends.

  622. You can't love the world and love God to sin.

  623. Is this world of Darkness, that we've got to get out of our

  624. hearts. We've got to change our

  625. priorities, we've got to change our love's in Colossians, the

  626. first chapter in verse 13. The Bible says that this way, he

  627. rescued us, from the domain of darkness and transferred us into

  628. the kingdom of his dear son, one, the domain of darkness is

  629. the world of First, John 2. It him is the light, but God is

  630. of the light. And in him, there is no

  631. Darkness. First John 1 and verse 5, we

  632. cannot love both God and sin. So do you love sins?

  633. Is there any sin in your life that you're in love with?

  634. The Bible says, to put it out of our life, we have got to no

  635. longer loved the world. This is that change change of

  636. heart. Change of priorities that we've

  637. been talking about. Let's look at first John 2 very

  638. very quickly and then we'll bring our lesson to a close

  639. tonight. In first John 2, he names, he

  640. names this, these things and context really I believe the

  641. questions answered but let's go first.

    1 John 2:15

  642. John 2 verse 15 and 16 again, look at it really carefully as

  643. we read it together. First, John 2 verse 15, do not

    John 2:15

  644. love the world or the things in the world.

  645. If anyone loves the Father, the Excuse me, loves the world.

  646. The love of the father is not in him for all that is in the

  647. world. Now he's going to tell us what's

  648. in this world that we're not supposed to love the lust of the

  649. flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life is

  650. not from the father. Well, he can't be talking about

  651. this planet because it is of the father, but he says sin is not

  652. of the father. This planet is sin is not Sin is

  653. created whenever we choose to satisfy a god-given desire in an

  654. ungodly way. That's what lust is.

  655. It's to satisfy a god-given desire.

  656. In a ungodly way, is not of the father, but is from the world.

  657. Now, we've got to change that. The lust of the flesh is of,

  658. it's talking about the things, the way, the world, satisfies

  659. its desires, We have got to put these things out of our Lives.

  660. Take care of first second Corinthians, 10, verse 5 as we

    2 Corinthians 10:5

  661. reviewed last night. The Bible says, we've got to

  662. take every thought captive and bring it to obedience to Christ.

  663. And I've got to hush, I've got two more pages of notes, but I

  664. can't get to them tonight. Hush I do want to get leave you

  665. with one last illustration right quick.

  666. Listen, very carefully, Hernando Cortes whenever he sailed over

  667. here to conquer, if you will America and Mexico and all that

  668. area whenever he landed here, he had 11 ships and 700 men and he

  669. landed at Veracruz in the spring of 1519.

  670. And you know what? He did, whatever he landed

  671. there. He did something that caused a

  672. certain kind of motivation in his men.

  673. He unloaded the ships and he burned them.

  674. He burned, the ships isn't that amazing?

  675. Why would a guy do that? Well, you know, if you're in a

  676. new place and you get into trouble, there's always that

  677. sense. Well well, you know if this gets

  678. too rough, I can just pack up and go home.

  679. I can just load up, leave load up and leave.

  680. But he wanted a kind of commitment out of his men where

  681. they knew there wasn't any going back and he says when we get

  682. back, we're going to have to build ships to go back.

  683. We're not, that's what he wanted, some commitment out of

  684. it. You know what?

  685. I'll tell you what. That, if I was a soldier on that

  686. ship, it would give me some commitment to succeed, wouldn't

  687. it? I wouldn't be one and say, well,

  688. you know, we got two options here.

  689. We can fight these guys, or we can get the ship and leave.

  690. Oh that's right. The ship has been burned.

  691. I guess we only have one option. We got to fight these guys and

  692. we got a win, right? Will Christians.

  693. That's what we've been talking about here tonight.

  694. How many of us want to go to heaven?

  695. But we not broke up with the world yet it's time, we burn

  696. some bridges. It's time, we burn some ships,

  697. it's time. We took stock of our heart and

  698. realized that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

  699. James 1 and verse eight year are not going to live a successful

  700. Victorious, Christian Life. As long as you have two hearts,

  701. as long as you have two Ambitions, two goals.

  702. In two sets of priorities. You may have one set of

  703. priorities. Iot.

  704. That works some of the time and the other side of the, but you

  705. are going to be unsuccessful at both.

  706. You're going to be a miserable Sinner and a miserable

  707. Christian. As long as you have two hearts

  708. in this world. If you want to be successful,

  709. you're going to have to purify your hearts and James 18.

  710. James, excuse me, 48. Tells us purify your hearts you

  711. double-minded. Purify the word purify means

  712. makes single something that was double context, really make

  713. single make of single substance purify your hearts.

  714. In other words, make one out of two, you got to get rid of wine

  715. whenever we come to Christ, we've got to give up our love of

  716. sin. Glenn, I don't love sin, really?

  717. No, you just want to cheat on God, we want the pleasure of

  718. sin. We don't want a relationship, we

  719. want what God has to offer. We want the inheritance.

  720. We want the father's house when we go to heaven, but we want a

  721. little something on the side. We want sin in our life still,

  722. and as long as that happens, James 18 says, we will be

  723. unstable in all our ways. There's a reason why Christians

  724. aren't successful. It's because they not broken up

  725. with the world. He's got a breakup.

  726. Got a breakup. You've got to tell Christ.

  727. I'm going to be faithful to you. I'm going to be committed to

  728. you. I'm going to be respectful of

  729. you. I'm going to honor you.

  730. I will forsake all others and cling only to you.

  731. Because we are the Bride of Jesus Christ so it's time we

  732. burned some chips. It's time we take every thought.

  733. Captive it's time. We set our eyes on things above.

  734. Not the things are on this world and if there's ever going to be

  735. a compromise, my friends with things in this world, we got to

  736. make sure that we remain faithful to God and our call to

  737. follow him in All in every situation.

  738. I hope this has been helpful. Like I said, I didn't get to

  739. everything I wanted to say tonight but be thankful for

  740. that. So tonight, I just want to, I

  741. just want The challenge, all of us in summarizing what we?

  742. This is kind of what we've been talking about all week.

  743. A lot of times we talk about this all week and people go.

  744. Yeah, you have it that's hard and that's difficult.

  745. But tonight we just wanted to really focus that it is

  746. essential that we love not the world.

  747. It's essential that we break up because we won't be successful

  748. if we don't That's why we are unstable is because we've not

  749. purified our heart. Do you want to go to heaven

  750. tonight? Then what in this world is worth

  751. leaving? In your life?

  752. That's in. There is no cynic worth,

  753. exchanging heaven for get rid of desire to sin.

  754. Don't let your heart in be sinners.

  755. Like we talked about last night, don't desire things that are in

  756. this world. Set your heart on things above,

  757. not the things that are on the earth for your life is hidden

  758. with Christ in God. If you'd then be raised up with

  759. Christ set, My mind on things above.

  760. So tonight rearrange your priorities rearrange your life.

  761. If there's any compromise between your job and following

  762. Christ, who's going to suffer. If there's any compromise that

  763. has to be called for what's going to go.

  764. God's got to come first God's got to come first.

  765. So tonight, are you willing to be purifying your heart and your

  766. mind, are you willing to give up forsake?

  767. All others, are you willing to make yourself pure and only for

  768. God tonight? That's It takes 4 before you

  769. answer question. Yes.

  770. And marriage. You have to think about those

  771. things. Don't you Don't you before you

  772. have to say. Now, I've got a file of dating,

  773. I've got to ask myself, do I want to stop dating?

  774. You know. Some girls.

  775. And guys, they don't want to stop dating when they get

  776. married. That's really bad.
