  1. A couple of years ago, I took the congregation here through a

  2. series on the last week in the life of Jesus and as we got near

  3. the very end it would be the day that Jesus was crucified on

  4. Friday. I did talk about the idea of

  5. pilate when Jesus was before him from the 19th Chapter of John.

  6. What I want to do today though is I want to back up when Jesus

  7. was taken to the praetorium two pilots Hall and the events that

  8. transpired between verses 28. Eight and thirty eight as a text

  9. though, I've chosen beginning in verse 35.

  10. Pilate answered a mi Jus your own nation and chief priests

  11. have delivered. You to me what have you done?

  12. Jesus answered. My kingdom is not of this world.

  13. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight.

  14. So then I should not be delivered to the Jews but now my

  15. kingdom is not from here. Pilate therefore said to him,

  16. are you a king Vin? Jesus answered, you say, rightly

  17. that I am a king for this cause I was born and for this cause I

  18. have come into the world that I should bear witness to the

  19. truth. Everyone who is of the truth

  20. hears, my voice pilate said to him, what is truth.

  21. And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and

  22. said to them. I find no fault in him at all,

  23. correct. Red and barring any mistakes

  24. reads. Those passages of scripture that

  25. we read, in the 18th chapter of the Gospel of John, Now

  26. interestingly when John in the gospel uses the word, the Jews

  27. or reference to the Jews, it's very important to understand

  28. what he meant and divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit when

  29. John wrote these things. So long ago, he was not talking

  30. about the multiplicity of people with Jewish blood running

  31. through their veins or even those that were proselytized or

  32. converted to Judaism. He was talking about the

  33. religious leaders. That opposed Jesus Christ.

  34. And that's when he talks about when he says, when he talks

  35. about Jews he's talking about those Jewish leaders.

  36. Now bringing us to the point where he's taking the pilot in

  37. the middle of the night. He was taken to Caiaphas and the

  38. Sanhedrin. The next morning, he was taken

  39. again to Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin.

  40. Here's the question though. Why did you bring Jesus to

  41. pilate? Why did the people bring Jesus

  42. to pilate understand this though, in the Jew, in this

  43. point, in time? In Jewish history, not only the

  44. Jews, but all of Israel was under the thumb, or under the

  45. oppression or under the governmental structure and

  46. authority of Rome. In fact, at this time, there was

  47. something that was ushered in and it was called from Latin Pax

  48. Romana. And that literally means And

  49. Roman peace and what that meant is Rome allowed those subjects

  50. under it to have their own government, they could have

  51. their own corks, you know, the juice can have that they can

  52. have their own court system, their own legal system, but when

  53. it came to executing somebody, the right of the sword, belonged

  54. only to Rome and that was under the structure or under the idea

  55. of keeping Roman peace, capital punishment had to be issued or

  56. ushered in by row. Rome.

  57. Now, if you go back a couple of chapters, remember Caiaphas is

  58. very important. Kai fish said it's expedient,

  59. that one man should die and a nation be spared.

  60. Now, do you remember the events that happened right before he

  61. said that Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead.

  62. I put this in your mind. It doesn't say that Caiaphas

  63. heard that Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.

  64. In other words, like a rumor, it states is fact that Caiaphas

  65. knew that Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.

  66. Do you remember what the men said when they went to Caiaphas?

  67. They said it's no problem. It'll all go away and Caiaphas

  68. said, no, you don't know what you're saying.

  69. It's good for one man to die and a nation to be spared.

  70. And that that point Jesus Christ, the death of Jesus was

  71. applauded. The religious trial was purely a

  72. mockery to carry out that plot accusations and indictments.

  73. There was nothing before Anna anise in the middle of the night

  74. and it was really a joke in a plot to kill.

  75. Jesus remembering the right of the sword belonged to roam.

  76. The why does it matter why does it matter?

  77. Well, first of all understand that a Jewish execution would

  78. have been stoning, but in order for the Bible to be true, it had

  79. to be a crucifixion and if it had to be a crucifixion, it had

  80. to be authorized or it had to be given by Rome.

  81. That's how Rome executed someone.

  82. Now, let's just back up and let's talk about why All the way

  83. back in the Old Testament and Numbers chapter 21.

    Numbers 21 chapter mention

  84. You remember when the people were bitten by serpents or

  85. snakes and they died and all of a sudden God gets their

  86. attention through that very act. So, what are the people do?

  87. The people? Go to Moses and they said, oh

  88. pray to God that he takes away the snakes that he takes away

  89. the Serpent's. You know, God doesn't take that

  90. away. You know why?

  91. Because the biting of the Serpent's represented sin, the

  92. serpent represented sin, and God didn't take away that sin.

  93. Without the means that he's going to talk about what God

  94. told Moses to do is, I'm not going to take away the

  95. Serpent's. What I'm going to do is this,

  96. I'm going to tell you, you put a Brazen serpent up on a pole and

  97. when the people were bitten, whoever would look up to that

  98. pole, look up to that Brazen serpent.

  99. It was a look of faith believing.

  100. They would not die. They would live In John chapter

    John 3 chapter mention

  101. 3 and verse 14, I believe it says Jesus says, As Moses in the

  102. wilderness as people looked up in the wilderness, that's how

  103. the son of man is going to be crucified.

  104. He'll be lifted up it signified. The kind of death that Jesus

  105. would die. In other words, it was a look of

  106. faith, believing that took away sin in that regard, took away

  107. the serpent in that regard. Now, you know it's interesting

  108. too. I talked about the idea of a

  109. Jewish execution being stoning. One of the things that they

  110. accused Jesus of was blasphemy and the reason that they accused

  111. him of blasphemy is because he said, I am the Son of God.

  112. And by the way, the two things they hated about Jesus, what he

  113. said on the Son of God, into the way handle the Sabbath, and they

  114. hated him for it, especially those among the sect of the

  115. Pharisees, but in Leviticus says that a man that was actually

  116. guilty of blasphemy would be stoned to death.

  117. Now, it can't be a Jewish state. Owning it has to be a

  118. crucifixion. Now, what's interesting to me

  119. is, is this law right here, pox, Romana, or Roman peace, and that

  120. law began in ad 30. Jesus was crucified in ad 33.

  121. Do you see the connection? Jesus starts his Earthly

  122. Ministry in a T30 and for about three years until a t-33.

  123. That's when Jesus was on this Earth and preaching as he went

  124. about in his life. Three years.

  125. The law changed in ad 30. So only Rome could execute

  126. someone legally and he died in ad 33.

  127. There's really no, I don't think that's by accident at all.

  128. You might send a wait a minute, though.

  129. Wait a minute, wait a minute. What about Steven?

  130. remember when Stephen stood before his accusers and they

  131. stoned him to death, So, what about Steven?

  132. You know, a stone was a horrible thing.

  133. What about Steven? That was different with regards

  134. to Steven. That was a mob reaction.

  135. It wasn't lawful they broke the law.

  136. There were so angry, they broke the law, but it wasn't a legal

  137. execution, a legal execution. Could only come from Rome, and

  138. it began at a T30. That's the reason that they were

  139. able to or they did Stone Steven.

  140. Now, what's ironic here though? Is Jesus, as one scholar said,

  141. was the Friend of Sinners and he was Shackled by the hate of

  142. Sinners. And yet in this whole thing,

  143. what dominates the scene is his innocence.

  144. In fact, not once, not twice, but six times pilot said, I find

  145. no fault in him. Innocent.

  146. Completely innocent. You know, pilot doesn't want the

  147. blood on his hands. He wants to say, I find no fault

  148. in him. The three parts of the religious

  149. trial were over. There was the trial before Annas

  150. Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin in the night.

  151. The next morning was the mock trial to try to legalize what

  152. they had done illegally at night time and while it is early in

  153. the morning, they brought Jesus to pilate for execution, do you

  154. know why? They had to go to the Roman

  155. court and the Roman Court began at Sunrise, and it ended its

  156. Sunset. So early that morning at dawn,

  157. here they come with Jesus. Now we go back to verse 28.

  158. Then they LED Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium and

  159. it was early morning but they themselves did not go into the

  160. praetorium. Lest they should be defiled, but

  161. that they might eat the Passover.

  162. You know what's interesting here this is really A classic case of

  163. hypocrisy. They don't want to go into the

  164. Pretoria more the house of a gentile because they don't want

  165. to be defiant. We can't be defiled.

  166. You know why? Because we want to eat the

  167. Passover. Look at the hypocrisy, though.

  168. They take Jesus and they're willing to kill the one.

  169. That was the Fulfillment of the Passover.

  170. That was Jesus Christ. You know, there was many times

  171. when Jesus dealt with aspects of their hypocrisy, we've talked

  172. about hypocrisy in great detail over the years.

  173. I'm just going to make this point.

  174. Remember what Jesus said to them?

  175. They were really good one time in Matthew chapter, 23, Jesus

  176. points out. They were really good at even

  177. making a tithe of even the kitchen spices 9, for me, one

  178. for God 94. Me one forgot.

  179. In other words, things that they could be seen for.

  180. And Jesus says, what's your like, is this is what you're

  181. like, you're like one who strains out a gnat and swallow a

  182. camel. You know what's interesting

  183. about this Annette was the smallest of unclean things.

  184. A camel was the largest of unclean things.

  185. And the Bible says about unclean things a clean animal or one

  186. that they could eat. For example, would be one that

  187. chewed its cud and had a cloven hoof.

  188. Leviticus says that a camel, chews, its cud, but does not

  189. have a cloven hoof. And the Bible says, in the Book

  190. of Leviticus Guess they're for a camel is unclean.

  191. Now what did Jesus mean when he said you're straining out a gnat

  192. and swallow a camel, you might remember this.

  193. They took a strainer cloth and put it over a vessel to put it

  194. over a cup and they would pour the beverage through the

  195. strainer cloth. You know why?

  196. They didn't even want a little tiny nap to get in there.

  197. One scholar said, some of these fastidious Jews would even drink

  198. the beverage through clenched teeth to keep the bug from going

  199. down their throat. Jesus Says, by the way that you

  200. are, you know what you are, You're straining out a gnat, but

  201. you're swallowing a camel. He hits him again.

  202. In Matthew 23, here he goes, the greatest preacher ever.

  203. He said, you know, what, you're like, you're like whitewashed

  204. tombs. And, by the way, what a fitting

  205. example, around the time that we're talking about right now,

  206. Passover time because in Jerusalem around Passover time

  207. after the rains, and everything would be washed clean, they

  208. would take lime powder, and mix it with water and they would go

  209. to all the tombs and they will. Whitewash, the tombs with that

  210. lime powder that they mixed with water.

  211. Do you know why? Because the Bible says, under

  212. the Old Testament that a man that would touch a grave would

  213. be ceremonially unclean for seven days.

  214. Therefore, it's Passover, time we don't want our visitors.

  215. Millions of people perhaps to come into Jerusalem and be

  216. unclean at Passover time. So they whitewashed the tombs

  217. Jesus said to them. That's what you are on the

  218. outside. But inside, you're just Dead

  219. Man's Bones. You're just a grave with dead

  220. men's bones. That's what you are.

  221. You know, I get this idea as they come to the praetorium.

  222. They're doing the same thing. They don't want to enter,

  223. they're not going in. Oh no, we don't want to go to

  224. House of a gentile, but we're willing to kill the Messiah, the

  225. Fulfillment of the Passover. You are dead men's bones.

  226. Now in the next verse pilot, then went out to them and said,

  227. what accusation Ation do you bring against this man?

  228. Pilate knew that Jesus was innocent pilot really was no

  229. dummy. He was very smart.

  230. The problem that pilot had was pilot was a coward.

  231. It takes courage to stand in the face of opposition and it takes

  232. courage to stand in the face of opposition, especially when that

  233. opposition can do you harm in any way.

  234. I don't want to have any harm done my way.

  235. It's easy to Have Courage when there's no ramifications for the

  236. choice, right? So here it is.

  237. Pilot looks out and they couldn't bring Jesus in because

  238. I don't want to be defiled, so he looks out.

  239. And he says what accusation do you bring against him?

  240. Now notice this though, in chapter 19 and verse 12, From

  241. then on pilot sought to release him.

  242. But the Jews cried out saying if you let this man go you are not

  243. Caesars friend. Whoever makes himself a king

  244. speaks against Caesar. You know, really what they're

  245. doing is they're blackmailing him kind of like we're going to

  246. tell on you. We're going to tell on you and

  247. later we're going to get to this.

  248. Jesus says I'm a king so therefore they bring that

  249. accusation and what they're saying the pilot is So pilot,

  250. you know, there's only one king where there's only one king

  251. pilot. You better do the right thing

  252. pilot. And they were blackmailing him

  253. to do the right thing. In other words, if you want to

  254. keep your job, you gotta do the right thing here.

  255. But notice this right here, what accusation do you bring against

  256. this man? And by the way, this is the

  257. first fair thing ever stated regarding the trial of Jesus.

  258. What did he do, wrong? What accusation do you bring

  259. against this, man? But you know, they didn't want

  260. to trial, they wanted an execution and that's why they

  261. went to pilate also. Verse 30, they answered and said

  262. to him if he were not an evildoer we would not have

  263. delivered him up to you. What an amazing way to respond.

  264. Pilot says, what's the accusation, you know?

  265. They said there was no accusation, by the way, see what

  266. they said? Oh, you knew how we are.

  267. You know, how we are. We're great.

  268. Men of character. We wouldn't have brought him to

  269. you. Had he not been an evildoer.

  270. Skirting the issue in that way. They don't answer the question.

  271. They just say. If he wasn't an evildoer, we

  272. wouldn't have brought him to you.

  273. There was no answer because there was no accusation, they

  274. don't have a charred that would hold up in a Roman court.

  275. And this is that point about blasphemy that I mentioned just

  276. a moment ago. You know, they can say all they

  277. want to about blasphemy. They can say that he is guilty

  278. of blasphemy because he said, I am the Son of God, but do you

  279. know this, that charge does not hold up at all to a Roman Court

  280. from didn't care about that. He didn't care about that at

  281. all. So nothing could be stated about

  282. that. He was perfect.

  283. He is without sin, he would die for our sins and not his own.

  284. He was perfect in every way and that brings us to verse 31 and

  285. 32. Then pilate said to them, you

  286. take him and judge him according to your law.

  287. Therefore, the Jews said to him, it is not lawful to put anyone

  288. to death that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which

  289. he spoke signifying by what death, he would die.

  290. Here's a point of reference as Jesus is speaking really as a

  291. prophetic God, here's a point of reference in Mark 10 and verse

  292. 32. Now they were on the road and by

  293. the way, this is before John Now, when they were on the road,

  294. going to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them and they

  295. were amazed. And as they followed, they were

  296. afraid that he took the twelve aside again and began to tell

  297. them the things that would happen to him.

  298. Then the next verse behold, we are going up to Jerusalem and

  299. the son of man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the

  300. scribes and they will condemn him to death and deliver him to

  301. the Giles. Now Jesus speaks concerning

  302. these very things that are going to happen.

  303. So now we go back to John, 18 and verse 31.

  304. Then pilate said to them, you take him and judge him according

  305. to your law. Therefore, the Jews said to him,

  306. it's not lawful for us to put anyone to death.

  307. You know? You've heard me say this over

  308. the years and I really think it's a point worth making it all

  309. times. Jesus Christ was no man's

  310. victim. He was no man's victim.

  311. That's what makes his sacrifice even better.

  312. It's one thing to just willfully submit to something that comes

  313. your way. That's one thing.

  314. But for someone to be like Jesus, who could dictate the

  315. whole thing and be totally in charge, and totally in control

  316. and set aside that and then died for the sins of the world that

  317. makes the sacrifice even greater.

  318. NOW Watch, What Happens pilot knows that Jesus is innocent.

  319. So pilate says, you take him and judge him, according to your

  320. law. In other words, pilot was saying

  321. I'm giving you the right to break the law you decide. and

  322. then they said, It's not lawful for us to put anyone to death.

  323. Then in verse 32 that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled,

  324. which he spoke signifying, but what death, he would die.

  325. You know. Jesus spoke about this in John

    John 12 chapter mention

  326. chapter 12 and verse 32 he said and if I am lifted up from the

  327. earth will draw All Peoples to myself now, I heard somebody say

  328. one time that what this means is this If practically I Lift Jesus

  329. up in my life. And if Christians would Lift

  330. Jesus up in their life, it will draw all people unto Jesus

  331. Christ. And I suppose that's true in a

  332. separate and apart since. But that's not what, the Lord

  333. met here. And the reason that I know,

  334. that's not what the Lord meant is because after he says, and if

  335. I be lifted up from the earth on the cross, what he was speaking

  336. of, I will draw All Peoples to myself.

  337. Verse 33 says this signifying. The manner of death that he

  338. would die. He had to be lifted up.

  339. Totally in control. Pilot says go ahead do it

  340. yourself. They said, oh no.

  341. We can't do. That is one of those times when

  342. God uses the wrath of men to praise him.

  343. He was a perfect man. He's the prophetic God in every

  344. way. And now we look also in verses

  345. 33 37. And in this group of scriptures,

  346. John exalts, Jesus. Really as a supernatural King,

  347. the juice finally came up with something that they thought

  348. would stick. They thought I got one.

  349. In fact, in Luke chapter 23, listen to this.

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  350. Verse 2. Luke said, and they began to

  351. accuse him saying we found this fellow perverting, the nation,

  352. that's a lie. Forbidding to pay taxes to

  353. Caesar. That's a lie.

  354. Say that he himself is Christ a king and that's the one thing

  355. that they thought we got him on. now, picture this picture this

  356. When Jesus is portrayed as someone that's going to come in

  357. as a revolutionary, and he's going to come in and do

  358. something by way of a Revolt. That's the only thing that might

  359. have touched the mind of pilot. That's it.

  360. That's the only thing. In fact, they said this to at

  361. one point, they said we have no King.

  362. But Caesar. What's interesting?

  363. Is the Jews. Absolutely hated Caesar but they

  364. said we have no King but Caesar And so when Jesus was claiming

  365. or they said he was claiming to be an Earthly King, then the

  366. idea was he's going to start a revolution and by the way let's

  367. back up a little bit. Do you remember when Jesus was

  368. coming into Jerusalem a week ago and he's going through it.

  369. Got headed towards Jerusalem and there were people that were

  370. following with him, you know, that there were many people that

  371. followed Jesus because they thought that once he got to

  372. Jerusalem, he would establish an Earthly Kingdom.

  373. And when he did Did maybe it would remove the oppression of

  374. Rome and lift that thumb of repression over off of them once

  375. and for all an Earthly Kingdom, they didn't get it.

  376. So he's accused of perhaps starting a revolution.

  377. So now in verse 33 Then pilate entered the praetorium again

  378. called Jesus said to him. Are you the king of the Jews?

  379. You know, it's interesting at first glance.

  380. It seems like he's just asking him a question.

  381. Really does in the English language and you can look at all

  382. the translations and it just appears like he's asking him a

  383. question but there's so much more.

  384. It doesn't say it like this in the Greek.

  385. In the Greek. It says this.

  386. You are the king of the Jews. Did you get that?

  387. He wasn't saying are you the king of the Jews?

  388. He's saying you you the king of the Jews.

  389. In other words, it's ludicrous in his mind as he looks out.

  390. And he sees Jesus, you the king of the Jews standing there with

  391. a garment of a peasant, you the king of the Jews standing before

  392. me with hands bound. You don't look like a king to

  393. me. They said he's the king of the

  394. Jews. He said that he was the king of

  395. the Jews. He said, you the king of the

  396. Jews. It's unbelievable to pilate.

  397. It's unbelievable. But here's the Dilemma.

  398. If Jesus says, yes, I'm a king. The problem is pilot only

  399. understood an Earthly King. So he would lead the Jews in a

  400. Revolt. If he said, I'm not a king, he

  401. would deny his kingship. So, he qualifies to question.

  402. This is how he responds. Jesus answered him.

  403. Are you speaking for yourself about this or did others tell

  404. you this concerning me? Brilliant.

  405. Absolutely brilliant. He clarifies the question.

  406. Pilate said, am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief

  407. priests have delivered you to me, and then he said this,

  408. please get this. What have you done?

  409. You know, I didn't know this. Till I studied some history

  410. about this. But, you know, pilot broke the

  411. law right here. Pilot, broke the law.

  412. It was kind of a fifth amendment deal that we might relate to.

  413. But here's really the point. Another word, the Fifth

  414. Amendment says that you don't have to say something that will

  415. incriminate yourself, okay? You plead the fifth, you don't

  416. incriminate yourself, but it's more.

  417. There was a law, a Roman law that stated.

  418. You could not be executed. You cannot be convicted based

  419. upon your own testimony of yourself.

  420. In other words, there was no other testimony.

  421. There was no other accusation that stood up.

  422. So finally he said this what have you done?

  423. Give me the charges and you'll legal question and a desperate

  424. question to you couldn't be condemned by your own testimony.

  425. And Jesus said this, my kingdom is not of this world.

  426. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight

  427. so that I should not be delivered to the Jews, but now

  428. my kingdom is not from here. You know, Earthly kings are

  429. appointed by the people, right? They're appointed by the people,

  430. when King Saul was appointed, he was the People's Choice.

  431. God didn't choose King. Saul.

  432. The people chose King Saul because King Saul was Head and

  433. Shoulders above everyone. He was one of the men.

  434. The four men in the Bible that are spoken of as handsome and

  435. Built. Well, he wanted to be a king of.

  436. They wanted to have a king that was like all the other nations

  437. and he stood up above everyone. So they picked it.

  438. I was the People's Choice. Okay.

  439. God, chose David. That was God's choice and the

  440. Bible says that Jesus would be a king like David.

  441. And in many ways he was a king, like, David.

  442. And I don't have time to go into all of those things.

  443. But I will say this, he was a king like, David specifically

  444. here in that he was God's choice.

  445. Jesus was God's choice to be king, king of kings, and Lord of

  446. lords. Oops.

  447. You know, really when they were in the garden and they came to

  448. arrest Jesus. This whole thing plays out

  449. because Malcolm is pulls out his sword and he cuts off the right

  450. ear or a Peter pulls out his sword and cuts off Mal kisses

  451. right ear. And when he does, so Jesus puts

  452. it back on and he told Peter, put your sword away.

  453. For they that lives by the sword, shall also perish By The

  454. Sword. Jesus also said that if my

  455. kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight.

  456. He could have called down twelve, Legions of angels and

  457. put a stop to the whole matter. I appreciate our brother leading

  458. that song in Pilots Hall that we just guilty of loving me that we

  459. just saw Thousands of angels, hovering nigh.

  460. Waiting to hear the Lord's. Famous cry.

  461. But Jesus instead chose the cross.

  462. Willingly and willfully. You know why?

  463. His kingdom was not of this world?

  464. Then verse 37. Pilate therefore said to him,

  465. are you a king then? Jesus answered, you say, rightly

  466. that I am a king for this, cause I was born and for this cause I

  467. have come into the world that I should bear witness to the

  468. truth. Everyone who is of the truth

  469. hears, my voice, I want to spend a little time on breaking this

  470. passage down for the first thing we want to notice, is this?

  471. It is when Jesus says for this, cause I was born, okay?

  472. Well, the born part is The Human Side.

  473. Everybody, that's human is born. But the Bible talks about Jesus

  474. as being the son of man, meaning fully human.

  475. Our Messiah was fully human. That's this part.

  476. He was to be a king and for this, cause he was born in human

  477. form. What else?

  478. He says, also for this cause I have come into the world.

  479. This is the Divine side. In other words, if Jesus came

  480. into the world, it means that he existed somewhere else before,

  481. if I come into the world, I have to come from somewhere and that

  482. somewhere was Heaven. That's the Divine side.

  483. That's why Jesus is called the son of man and the Son of God.

  484. Both in John, chapter 17 and verse 5, this shows that Jesus

    John 17 chapter mention

  485. existed before. And now father, glorify me with

  486. yourself with the glory, which I had with you before the world

  487. was The Bible also says that in the beginning was the word, John

    John 1 chapter mention

  488. chapter 1, and the Word was with God.

  489. And the Word was God, the same was in the beginning with God.

  490. All things were made by him. And without him was not anything

  491. made that was made verse 14 and the word became flesh and dwelt

  492. among us and we beheld his glory, the glory, as of the only

  493. begotten of the father, full of grace and truth.

  494. So Jesus tells him in this little sermon, he's preaching a

  495. pilot. I came to be born into this

  496. world to be king for this, cause I left where I came from to be

  497. king. I am fully divine.

  498. And then, Back In this passage again the end of this passage.

  499. Then I should bear witness to the truth.

  500. Everyone who is of the truth hears, my voice.

  501. Jesus is the great proclaimer of Truth.

  502. He said, I am the way, the truth and the life.

  503. No one comes to the father, except by or through me, John

  504. 14, and 6, the great disclaimer of Truth.

  505. One scholar said this to know, Jesus is to know the truth.

  506. And Jesus is the king and his scepter is truth.

  507. But notice this pilate said, what is truth?

  508. Have you ever heard somebody say truth is relative?

  509. In other words, what you think is truth is okay for you.

  510. But what's truth to me is, okay, for me.

  511. And everybody determines what their own truth is going to be.

  512. I want you to notice pilot is doing that very thing.

  513. In fact, when he said what is truth?

  514. It literally means everyone who is of the truth hears.

  515. My voice of Jesus said when he says what is truth, he is

  516. referring to this. He's saying this there is no

  517. such thing as truth. What's it mean to here?

  518. The word here in the Greek literally means to listen

  519. intently and Obey. So to hear the truth is to obey

  520. the truth. Number one time when Jesus gave

  521. a little lesson after he gave a parable, he said be careful how

  522. you listen in other words, take heed, how you hear the way you

  523. hear, the word of God will determine your spiritual

  524. condition. One of those ways is obediently,

  525. you cannot hear properly without the idea of obedience, and

  526. that's what he was telling him. That's what Jesus was telling

  527. him. There's no truth outside of

  528. Jesus Christ. He went out again to the Jews

  529. and said, I find no fault in him.

  530. Everyone who is of the truth hears, my voice, which means,

  531. intently, Listen and Obey. And then also this He said,

  532. simply this, I find no fault. In here.

  533. You know, many times I've tried to put my mind in my mind's eye.

  534. I've tried to go back to how it was for pilot.

  535. Jesus appears to be on trial. The religious trial is over, and

  536. he seems to be in this other trial with pilate and pilate has

  537. the authority and the power. To let him go or crucify him.

  538. He's got the power. But he never stopped to

  539. consider. There's no indictment, there's

  540. no accusation. Jesus really wasn't on trial

  541. here pilot was In fact, in chapter 19, we find Pilots

  542. failing proposals to try to let him go.

  543. He knew he was innocent. He knew he wasn't guilty. but

  544. the people said crucify him and he gave in so, a long time ago,

  545. Jesus standing before Pilate and Pilots Hall Starts the events

  546. that we talked about today. And the question is this,

  547. though. Here's the question for all of

  548. us today. What's your response to that?

  549. You know, when Jesus died on the cross for your sins, it means

  550. nothing to you if you don't respond to the gospel.

  551. Whether the gospel saves her offends, is your response to it.

  552. The gospel is the good news of the death burial and

  553. resurrection of Jesus. So what is your response to

  554. that? If you're here, for example, and

  555. you are hearing the word of God, preached, and you're hearing

  556. about Jesus the invitation being extended.

  557. Maybe you've heard the invitation over and over again,

  558. but here it is again. What is your response going to

  559. be? You must hear the word of God

  560. believe in Jesus repent of your sin.

  561. Ins confess his name as the Son of God and be baptized in water

  562. for the remission of your sins and contact, the blood of Jesus

  563. and have your sins washed away. What is your response to what?

  564. Jesus did for you so long ago. We thank you for listening to
