  1. We're going to talk about the idea of worship and then we're

  2. going to talk about two different practices that are

  3. often used or often done in the religious world and one is the

  4. elevation of hands or lifting up holy hands and the other is

  5. clapping in the assembly. What we want to notice is are

  6. these things appropriate or are they not?

  7. And if they're right, why are they right?

  8. If they're wrong, why are they wrong?

  9. So we want to notice these things for a little while today.

  10. Day. But first of all, our text is

  11. taken from the words of Jesus in John chapter 4 and verses 23 and

    John 4 chapter mention

  12. 24 where Jesus said, but the hour is coming.

  13. And now is when the true worshipers will worship the

  14. father in spirit, and in truth, for the father is seeking such

  15. to worship him. God is a spirit and those who

  16. worship Him must worship Him in spirit.

  17. And in truth, may I just say, At the very beginning of this

  18. lesson worshipping God in spirit and in truth is of utmost

  19. importance and it is greatly significant.

  20. In fact, the word of God is very clear on the subject.

  21. Many things are taught about the aspect of worship.

  22. Jesus himself, preached about Worship in our passage in John

    John 4 chapter mention

  23. Chapter 4, verses, 23 and 24, the Apostle Paul on Mars Hill.

  24. Preached on worship Acts chapter 17, So the question is, what is

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  25. worship? What is it?

  26. Well you know when God says something one time in the Bible

  27. it's really necessary for us to understand that it's greatly

  28. significant. Even if God says it one time,

  29. after all everything, in the word of God is inspired by God.

  30. Therefore they are words that are god-breathed and even though

  31. inspired writers inspired by the Holy Spirit, pinned these things

  32. for us, these were Birds literal words that came directly from

  33. God. All that being said, if God says

  34. something one time, it's enough. But the word worship or the

  35. concept of worship is mentioned in the God's word 119 times.

  36. If something is mentioned by God 119 times I would imagine it is

  37. something that is greatly significant for us today.

  38. I think there needs to be more preaching and teaching on the

  39. subject of worship. And may I say this too?

  40. I think it's extremely important that we talk about the items of

  41. worship or as they afraid as they used under the law of Moses

  42. ordinances of divine service. Every aspect of our worship

  43. needs to be in truth as we'll get to in just a moment.

  44. But the items of worship and the emblems of worship are very

  45. significant so it's important that we deal with those things.

  46. Absolutely. But sometimes in dealing with

  47. the items of worship, we neglect other things, too.

  48. Like Like the reason for worship and how we worship the spirit or

  49. the motivation behind our worship.

  50. Sometimes we just sometimes perhaps go robotically and

  51. methodically through the service, never really thinking

  52. about the aspects of them, or their significance or the heart

  53. and spirit behind them. Now I'm going to ask you

  54. questions, the general question, answer this question to

  55. yourself. How important is worship to you?

  56. I mean, sometimes people talk about going to church and by the

  57. way, I want to make a point about going to church saying the

  58. phrase going to church. It's not wrong to say going to

  59. church because in the word of God, even though the church is

  60. not the building and the church is the ekklesia the called out

  61. the people even though that's true when the Bible talks about

  62. in the phrase, like for example, women are to be silent in the

  63. church. It means their to be silent in

  64. the assembly. So if you say I'm going to

  65. church, it's not unscriptural. You're saying, I'm going to the

  66. assembly, but let me ask you this.

  67. How important is worship in your life?

  68. Is it of utmost importance? Is it significant to you?

  69. Do you look forward to the day? Do you prepare your mind for the

  70. Lord's day? Let me just ask the following

  71. questions. These are General and I'll just

  72. present them like this in answering the question.

  73. Do you enjoy it? Do you actually enjoy worship?

  74. Are you late coming in? Are you early to leave?

  75. Are you bored? Are these questions that

  76. sometimes can prick our own conscience?

  77. Here's another one. And we're going to get back to

  78. this. So, I've highlighted this in

  79. another color, Do you participate?

  80. Now, the reason that we're going to get back to that is it's very

  81. significant because worshippers are not observers, we are not

  82. the audience and every one of you that is under my the sound

  83. of my voice. You are not a spectator, you are

  84. a participant In Worship. God is the audience we are the

  85. participant. So let me ask you, how important

  86. is it to you? Do you participate or do you

  87. just go through the motions questions for all of us?

  88. Perhaps to consider somebody said one time that too many

  89. times people show up the church at 10:30 dull.

  90. Begin a dull service. And then by noon, the church

  91. gives up her dead. I think that's really true.

  92. Sometimes that's not be that though.

  93. Let's take a passage that is found in John chapter 4 again.

    John 4 chapter mention

  94. And in this, classic texts on worship.

  95. We have in the analysis of it, we have the following, we have,

  96. with regards to worship. We have an absolute.

  97. We have an action. We have a name, we have an

  98. attitude, and We have a standard all found in this worship.

  99. In this passage, God is a spirit and those who worship Him must

  100. worship Him in spirit and in truth, the first thing I want to

  101. talk about is the absolute. And that's the word must.

  102. Must is a modifier and may I say this.

  103. Also, sometimes people in looking for things religiously

  104. are looking for a church instead of looking for the truth.

  105. And I think there's more people in the world that are looking

  106. for a church. Then looking for the truth.

  107. Let me give you a little example, Tina.

  108. And I were driving down the road the other day.

  109. And there was a great big billboard and it was from a

  110. local church and it was an advertisement.

  111. I'd get that. But it said why not try Church?

  112. I think that's the mindset of people in the religious World.

  113. Why not try Church? In other words, you have your

  114. life. You like your life, maybe you

  115. have challenges in your life. I got an idea.

  116. What you try to church, you know, there's nothing in the

  117. word of God that says trying Church.

  118. In fact, it talks about worshippers and the modifier is

  119. an absolute and that's the word must.

  120. Can I say this to you? Now I'm going to be as direct as

  121. I can. All of you sit?

  122. Being here in this building. Today, must be here to worship

  123. God. You must be in the assembly

  124. somewhere of God's people on the Lord's day.

  125. It's the appointment that we have with our Lord must as a

  126. modifier. And by the way, when I say

  127. modifier, what I'm talking about is I'm talking about something

  128. that is clarifying or qualifying, something else to

  129. subject. So the Bible talks about a must

  130. in other things to write like faith And Hebrews 11 and verse

  131. 6. It says without faith, it's

  132. impossible to please God, for he, that comes to God, must

  133. believe that he is, and that he is, a rewarder of them that

  134. diligently seek him. So, we understand that we must

  135. have faith. Number two, we must be baptized

  136. in order to be saved. Jesus said that in Mark 16:16.

    Mark 16:16

  137. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.

  138. He that believeth not shall be damned.

  139. We understand that. So faith is a must baptism is a

  140. must but worship is also a must. It's a must There's no greater

  141. appointment that we have in our life.

  142. In fact, you're the word must is the strongest word in the

  143. English language. One scholar called it like this.

  144. He said, must is Heavens imperative.

  145. It is the Masters mandate, we must worship.

  146. The word. Must also modifies, three

  147. elements that constitute worship.

  148. Here's our passage, again must modifies the object or the aim

  149. and that is God. Must modifies the attitude.

  150. It must be in spirit must also modifies the standard and that

  151. is truth. So notice, here we go.

  152. Must is the Divine mandate. You got no choice if you want to

  153. be a servant of God, you must what worship who God, you must

  154. have the proper attitude and it must be by the proper standard,

  155. which is truth, or that, which is in accordance with revealed

  156. truth. So the object.

  157. Attitude and standard of our worship is vital, but I want to

  158. talk about worship itself sometimes, I don't think we

  159. realized that worship. I don't mean to insult anyone's

  160. intelligence, by saying this, but let me just say, worship is

  161. an action word. It's an action.

  162. It requires doing something. Worship by according to mr.

  163. Webster defines worship like this.

  164. It is courtesy or reverence to worth hence.

  165. It is honor and respect. It's an act.

  166. That's an action word of paying Divine honors to deity.

  167. That's God, religious reverence or homage?

  168. That's what mr. Webster says, about the word

  169. worship. Now the English word Worship in

  170. the scriptures is translated in the New Testament.

  171. Estimate from several different Greek words, three of which are

  172. used more than once. The first ones found in our

  173. passage in John chapter 4 and verse 24.

    John 4 chapter mention

  174. This is the Greek word and it appears 60 times in the New

  175. Testament, and this is what it means.

  176. Means to kiss the hand to or towards one, in token of

  177. reverence to fall upon the knees and touch the ground, with the

  178. forehead, as an expression of profound, reverence, what else?

  179. Here's another word. It's found 10 times in the New

  180. Testament and it means this it means to stand in awe to

  181. venerate to, reverence, to worship, to adore and one more,

  182. one more It's this word here the true.

  183. Oh, it's found 21 times in the New Testament and that word, by

  184. the way, translated 17 times in English as service and four

  185. times its translated as worship. And this is what that means.

  186. It means to render religious service of homage to worship God

  187. in the observance of Rights instituted for worship.

  188. So, From these words studies it's very clear that true

  189. worship entails participation, we must be the participants not

  190. the spectators. As I've said, worship is an

  191. action word and we are the participants of that and God is

  192. the audience. Let me ask you a question.

  193. Do you realize when you came to worship today?

  194. That you were doing something that was to bow in the reverence

  195. of God, and you are doing something in honor and all of

  196. God, and God was watching. God is watching this worship

  197. service is not for me and it's not for you.

  198. It's for us to be participants for the audience, the object,

  199. the aim, and that's God. He's watching.

  200. And we must worship Him in spirit and in truth, you've

  201. heard people say this, I'm not going to, I'm not going to beat

  202. this dead horse. You've heard people say this

  203. many times. I'm sure.

  204. Have you ever heard somebody say, I'm just not getting

  205. anything out of it. I'm not going to go down that

  206. road very long, but I must say this.

  207. We all know what the answer to that is if you're not getting

  208. anything out of it, You're not putting anything in it.

  209. And, you know, even if a Speaker gets up, maybe he's not the best

  210. speaker. So what?

  211. Maybe he's not the best speaker. The emphasis is not to say.

  212. Oh, what a speaker, the emphasis afterwards is to say, Oh, What A

  213. Savior. So the message is what's

  214. important? Not the messenger, or the

  215. speaker. So there are things that we can

  216. all get from a lesson from any lesson.

  217. Now, I will tell you this, it is of utmost importance for the one

  218. that stands up here and teaching from the word of God to study

  219. and be prepared and do the best that he can.

  220. It's an awesome responsibility. Absolutely.

  221. But it's also the responsibility of those that are in the

  222. audience and participating in worship to listen, and be

  223. encouraged and edified by the message.

  224. So, if somebody says, well, I'm just not getting anything out of

  225. it these days. Well, maybe it's because we're

  226. not putting enough in it. Mere attendance must never be

  227. equated with worship punching a Time Clock.

  228. Check in, in warming, a seat that must never be equated with

  229. worship. Worship is a drawing nigh to

  230. God. Not drawing nigh to a church

  231. building. All right.

  232. Notice in Matthew, 15:8. These people draw near to me

  233. with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their heart

  234. is far from me. Do you know what's absolutely

  235. sobering about this passage if you apply it practically today?

  236. If you apply this practice this, this passage practically today,

  237. then you would say this. It's entirely possible for

  238. somebody sitting right here in this assembly today and going

  239. through the motions and check it off the list and all that

  240. punching in your clock, put your time in.

  241. And God doesn't have your heart at all.

  242. And your heart is somewhere else.

  243. It's entirely possible. What the Lord say, these people

  244. draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips,

  245. but their heart is far from me. You know what God wants your

  246. heart And by the way, may I also extend that not just in worship.

  247. He wants your heart and worship absolutely.

  248. But he wants your heart in your life, he wants you every day.

  249. He wants everything that you have to serve him, that's what

  250. God wants from you. That's the purpose of your life,

  251. to give him everything that we have.

  252. All right, so the action part is worship.

  253. We get that. So, the object though, the

  254. object of worship is him or it's God.

  255. You know the Bible brilliant brilliantly teaches us that God

  256. is to be the sole object of worship.

  257. In fact, in Matthew chapter 4, when the devil tempted, Jesus,

    Matthew 4 chapter mention

  258. the Bible says when Jesus, neither ate nor drank, and for

  259. those 40 days and he was tempted of the devil, the Bible says,

  260. the devil took him up on an exceeding high mountain and

  261. showed him all the kingdoms of the world.

  262. And the devil said to the Lord Sid, you can have every bit of

  263. it. All you got to do is Fall Down

  264. and Worship me. And the King James says Jesus is

  265. response. He says it like this, get down

  266. behind me, Satan for it. Is written, Thou shalt Worship

  267. the Lord God, the Lord your God and him only shalt thou serve.

  268. We came here today to worship God.

  269. He's the exclusive object of our worship.

  270. Every other objects are off the table.

  271. Wednesday night. We were studying about

  272. Colossians chapter 2 and really there's some deep meat that are

    Colossians 2 chapter mention

  273. found in those passages. And one of the phraseology is

  274. that were given and one of the things condemned that Paul was

  275. condemning among the false teachers in colossi was a phrase

  276. called the worship of angels. Now what they were actually

  277. doing is there were people that were false teachers that entered

  278. in and what they were doing is they were trying to get people

  279. to understand, God cannot be touched.

  280. T', wouldn't that be awful? If God could not be approached?

  281. If he really wasn't Abba, Father, he really wasn't our

  282. heavenly father and we have a relationship with him, wouldn't

  283. be a terrible thing. Well, false teachers came into

  284. the flock and what they try to do is they try to teach people,

  285. you can't approach God. So, what you do is you approach

  286. something that is subordinate to God or lesser than God like

  287. angels and you pray to the angels, who are messengers They

  288. convey your message to God, absolutely false and wrong and

  289. unscriptural. Now, prayer is a form of

  290. worship. So, Paul condemned the worship

  291. of angels, it is always been condemned the worship of

  292. anything else. Other than God, Jesus himself.

  293. Even said and him only shalt thou serve.

  294. When we assemble here is the body of Christ.

  295. We are worshipping one. Being we are worshipping God.

  296. Oh, what about Jesus? What about Jesus?

  297. Don't we have the communion? Absolutely absolutely.

  298. But we are worshiping God and in the worship of God, who is the

  299. only being that we worship? We honor his son.

  300. We remember his son, we commemorate, the death burial,

  301. and resurrection of his son in the communion.

  302. But the worship is only to God. Something else.

  303. And by the way I'll just say quickly, you know, people today

  304. that want to reverence people And they want to give people

  305. positions of Honor that they don't.

  306. Well, they don't deserve and they should not have.

  307. In fact, other religions have beings that are supposed to be

  308. like God and so forth, but let me just make one reference to

  309. one Passage. If that's the case then why in

  310. Acts chapter 10 when Peter goes to the household of Cornelius,

    Acts 10 chapter mention

  311. do you remember what Cornelius does when Peter comes in?

  312. The Bible says, they fell down or Cornelius boughs down before

  313. him to worship Him. Do you know what Peter does?

  314. Does he accept the worship? No, he says, get up.

  315. I'm a man. Just like you.

  316. I myself the King James says, and also a man.

  317. We don't worship men. We don't worship angels, we

  318. don't worship anything, but god Jehovah himself, and we must do

  319. that in spirit and in truth. And that's the next Point,

  320. that's the attitude and that is the standard.

  321. I put these things together. And and instead of breaking them

  322. down. Early.

  323. Because this absolutely has to go together.

  324. You cannot do one without the other be acceptable to God.

  325. You have to have the spirit part connected to the truth part, you

  326. have to have both, so I just put them together.

  327. The attitude is has to be right, one scholar, wrote it this

  328. night. I thought it was interesting.

  329. He said worship to God as being a spiritual being must be from a

  330. spiritual nature. In fact, he said a spiritual

  331. being like God can only be pleased with worship that comes

  332. from the heart and that which is Guided by the truth.

  333. Okay, that's Worship in a nutshell.

  334. That's what we're trying to do today.

  335. We're trying to Worship in spirit and in truth, meaning the

  336. emblems are the items of worship.

  337. The ordinances of divine service.

  338. We cannot change that. We have to do that according to

  339. the Divine pattern, but we're going to put all of our spirit

  340. in it. We're going to do.

  341. So from a A heart from the right motive and all of that.

  342. All right. What about this?

  343. What about the lifting up of? Holy hands?

  344. What's that mean? One of the latest practices in

  345. the religious world. Is the practice of holding one's

  346. arms up. And perhaps, I don't know, maybe

  347. swaying to the music with elevated hands in the assembly

  348. as some worshipful posture. That's very common in the

  349. religious world today, and one of the things, one of the

  350. reasons about the actual literal elevation of hamp's is because

  351. of in large part, the mission turp rotation of one passage of

  352. scripture that's found in first, Timothy Chapter 2, and verse

  353. Verse 8 where Paul said I desire therefore that men pray

  354. everywhere lifting up, holy hands without wrath and doubting

  355. just a little side note. Before we go any further, this

  356. is not exclusive, it's not saying in worship only, it says

  357. men everywhere. So, whatever is being meant

  358. there in that passage, it means for men to do it everywhere.

  359. Stay with me, I will be back on that.

  360. All right. So giving credit, where it's due

  361. this command. In this passage does seem to

  362. allude to the Old Testament. Practice of uplifted hands in

  363. respectful petition to God. It was actually done in the Old

  364. Testament Nehemiah chapter 8 and verse 6 and Ezra blessed the

    Nehemiah 8 chapter mention

  365. Lord, the great God, then all the people answered.

  366. Amen. Amen.

  367. While lifting up their hands and they bowed their heads and

  368. worshiped. Worship the Lord with their

  369. faces to the ground. Second Passage.

  370. Psalm 141 and to let my prayer be set before you as incense the

  371. lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

  372. One final passage the book of Lamentations chapter 3 and verse

    Lamentations 3 chapter mention

  373. 41. Let us lift up our hearts and

  374. hands to God in heaven. All right?

  375. Was lifting up their arms. Lifting up their hands toward

  376. the heavens. A prayer posture.

  377. Yes. But so were six others.

  378. It wasn't exclusive six others you don't, they were six.

  379. Other postures are mentioned kneeling with head bowed arms

  380. raised knees on the ground under the body.

  381. With the forehead touching the ground standing, with head

  382. bowed, low with eyes uplifted with arms, raised toward the

  383. heavens and also lying face down on the ground.

  384. So today, the The lifting up of hands comes more from a

  385. following, the fads of today, rather than a serious Bible

  386. study. In fact, while various prayer,

  387. postures are mentioned in passing.

  388. In the Bible. The overwhelming emphasis is

  389. clearly on the attitude and thought of the one that's doing

  390. the prayer. In other words, it is the

  391. posture of the heart that really matters.

  392. You may be a man that kneels down when you pray in the

  393. assembly, you may walk up here and speak into the microphone to

  394. be heard standing. That's all right kneeling.

  395. That's alright standing. That's all right.

  396. The whole idea, is the posture doesn't matter.

  397. What matters is the posture of the heart.

  398. That's what matters. Not a literal posture.

  399. All right, so In 1st Timothy Chapter 2 and verse 8.

  400. In In this passage, it is not a demand for any particular

  401. posture in prayer or even the physical lifting of hand and may

  402. I just say this, is it okay for somebody to lift their hands?

  403. Yeah, that's fine. That's nothing unscriptural

  404. about that. But in this passage, it's not

  405. giving a directive to do that, literally with your hands.

  406. What it is, is this it's actually a figure of speech

  407. known as metonymy in which the writer substitutes an

  408. association word for what is actually meant.

  409. What I'm saying is this, holy hands means holy life.

  410. That's the simplest way to put that what he was saying is I

  411. would that all men everywhere. Then, I think the King James

  412. says, all men everywhere and that would include both Jewish

  413. and Gentile Christians that when they pray here, talking about

  414. men that have a holy life or living a holy life, that's the

  415. picture. They're not the literal

  416. elevation of your hands. Paul teaches that men who lead

  417. in prayer should possess a character of purity.

  418. And holiness. 1st Peter, chapter 1.

  419. In verse 15 and 16. But as he who called you is,

  420. Holy you also be holy in all your conduct because it is

  421. written be holy for. I am Holy again, holy hands

  422. means holy life. That's what that means.

  423. It's a metonymy. It's a figure of speech.

  424. All right, but let me just say this while lifting up one's

  425. hands is not wrong in itself. It's not wrong to have your

  426. hands up. When you pray to God, let me

  427. Consider with you, the following.

  428. Nowhere in the scripture. Are we allowed to have anything

  429. that is potentially self-serving?

  430. And designed to impress, the participants rather than focus

  431. on God. Nothing is about us.

  432. It's not to impress someone outwardly by our own posture.

  433. It's for the focus of God. As a matter of fact, Jesus

  434. criticized religious leaders in his day, for their persistent

  435. attention to external displays, appearances, shows and hype.

  436. Jesus said this in Matthew 16 verse 5.

    Matthew 16:5

  437. When you pray, you shall not be like the Hypocrites for.

  438. They love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the

  439. corners of the streets. That they may be seen of men,

  440. assuredly, I say to you. They have their reward.

  441. I guess what I'm saying is this what's the motive behind it?

  442. If the motive is to look a certain way while you pray that

  443. motive is wrong, has nothing to do with how you look has

  444. everything to do with what your heart looks like.

  445. That's what God's looking at God's looking at the heart.

  446. That's all that matters. That's the posture that God

  447. wants. So, ask yourself the following

  448. if I elevate my hands in prayer, what's the motive behind it to

  449. be seen? Can't do that, that's bad.

  450. But it is something that you do on your own, whatever, it

  451. doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, the motive

  452. behind it is everything. All right?

  453. I'll just say this to you remember when you've heard me

  454. preach many times and others too, but when Jesus spoke of the

  455. Pharisee and the Publican, I just want to make this one

  456. point. I have said this, I have said,

  457. in my mind's eye, I picture a man that perhaps a standing

  458. there with elevated hands and eyes up toward the heavens.

  459. Yeah, that was probably literal, he probably was doing something

  460. like that. It fit what they did, it fit the

  461. prayer posture of the Old Testament.

  462. It fits some of those things. Some of those customs of the day

  463. and maybe he was doing solo because he wanted to be seen by

  464. others. Like the Pharisees that went to

  465. the street corner. They want to be known for their

  466. long prayers and much speaking. The heart was wrong, not the

  467. hands, but also The last point. Is what about hand clapping?

  468. So, let me just summarize. What I've just said is it wrong

  469. to elevate your hands in prayer? No, it's not ask yourself the

  470. question though. What's the motive behind it?

  471. All right. What about hand clap?

  472. What about clapping? That's a different subject

  473. altogether. There's two reasons.

  474. Why people clap two reasons? Number one is to keep the beat

  475. of the song. In other words to keep up with

  476. the song you've seen it, a guy goes to hold a concert or he's

  477. performing somewhere and then all of a sudden during the song

  478. gets to the course and starts clapping his hands for everybody

  479. to clap along with him you're keeping the beat of the song by

  480. the Clapping of hands. That's the one reason.

  481. The only other reason that you would clap and I'm going to get

  482. back to this but the only other reason you would clap is for the

  483. purpose of applause. Okay, let's talk about the first

  484. one though. Let's talk about musical

  485. accompaniment. This is clearly unscriptural on

  486. the grounds that it is parallel to a mechanical device, that

  487. might be used to supplement vocal music.

  488. Clapping our hands along with the music is no different than

  489. beating a drum playing a piano or playing a guitar.

  490. For example, clapping of hands is a non-vocal natural

  491. instrument. While a piano is a non-vocal

  492. mechanical instrument, it's the same thing and both of those are

  493. unauthorized because God demands vocal verbal articulation in

  494. music, only Ephesians 5 and Teen speaking to one another in

  495. Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.

  496. Singing. And making melody in your heart.

  497. To the Lord. The only two instruments

  498. authorized are the vocal cords and the Heart.

  499. That's what God wants, not the accompaniment of anything else,

  500. so you can have a piano and it's going along the beat of the song

  501. in the tune of the song. You're adding something to what

  502. God has not authorized. And by this passage here by the

  503. laws of exclusion. It excludes, all other manners

  504. are all other methods. One final thing about this

  505. though. Don't ever let somebody say,

  506. well, what about a song book? It's just an expedient like a

  507. songbook. No it's not.

  508. Instrumental music is not an expedient and inexpedient

  509. expedites the process of that which is commanded, what's

  510. commanded is to sing. So if we add musical instruments

  511. to the assembly to the worship, we add something to what God is

  512. not authorized. When we have a songbook, the

  513. songbook expedites the process of singing, the notes, the words

  514. and so forth and so on. And that Is scriptural.

  515. All right. What about clapping for

  516. Applause? I got to tell you I've been in

  517. the Philippines and there's and there's a lot of folks that show

  518. up and they're not members of the church and they hear that

  519. the Americans are coming people. Invite them, there are times

  520. when the when the assemblies are really large even in small

  521. confined areas packed and sometimes because they don't

  522. know any different if we get up and give a lesson.

  523. They just feel compelled to do what you do after somebody

  524. performs and start clapping start, banging your hands

  525. together. Start clapping and they just

  526. don't know any better. That brings me to my point about

  527. what hand-clapping really is. It's for Applause.

  528. The proponents though of hand clapping today in the religious

  529. World, say it's just a modern form of the word.

  530. Amen. Well, no, it's not and consider

  531. the following. I looked this up, I looked up

  532. clapping as used in American culture, okay?

  533. So this is a response to somebody saying that clapping

  534. your hands after a sermon is the same thing as saying.

  535. Amen. All right, Clapping Your Hands

  536. in an American culture. Number one, the primary function

  537. of Applause is to indicate personal approval of a

  538. performance like at a football game, an actor or even a mute

  539. musician. To another function of Applause

  540. is the showing of recognition of the performer.

  541. We express our appreciation for their Skill 3.

  542. Another function of hand clapping is an expression of

  543. excitement for a fourth function.

  544. Action of Applause is to manifest courtesy.

  545. That's not saying, amen. That has all the emphasis on the

  546. performer and the performance. I don't read that in the Bible

  547. at all you You know, what's amazing is the Apostle Paul

  548. divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit to write over two-thirds

  549. of the New Testament. He said this, neither he that

  550. plants is anything. Neither, he that Waters is

  551. anything, but God gives the increase.

  552. There is never a time that I was stand before you that I am

  553. worthy of your applause. It's not about that.

  554. Difference though, between Applause and amen.

  555. Let's talk about, amen, that's a great work.

  556. Amen. As used in the Old Testament.

  557. First, our English word, amen. Is a transliteration of a Hebrew

  558. word. That means firm.

  559. It is a term, meaning, certain and true.

  560. Now, a transliteration, a transliteration is something

  561. that changes the letters from the words, original alphabet to

  562. similar-sounding. Letters in a different alphabet.

  563. Here's the difference between a Action.

  564. And a transliteration. A translation means the same in

  565. other words, m word, that means the same and a transliteration

  566. sounds, the same, the English word.

  567. Amen. Is a transliteration of a Hebrew

  568. word that means firm, or certain and true.

  569. In the Old Testament. There were two uses for the

  570. word. Amen.

  571. Number one, it signified, the individuals acceptance of a

  572. statement. Numbers 5 and 22.

  573. Also indicated truthfulness. By the way you say, Amen, meant

  574. this statement is true. First Kings, chapter 1 and verse

    1 Kings 1 chapter mention

  575. 36. That's the Old Testament.

  576. What about the New Testament? We're concerned about the New

  577. Testament. The word is found 126 times in

  578. the New Testament and it affirms that a statement is certain

  579. true. And reliable to say, Amen, was

  580. to confirm The Binding nature of those truths.

  581. That was the purpose of the word, amen.

  582. In fact, Jesus often said that, Add this.

  583. Jesus often said, verily, verily or truly, truly, as I said, just

  584. a moment ago, Applause in our society.

  585. Is a response to the entertaining Performance Based

  586. and it's emphasized on the performer saying, amen.

  587. Focuses on the message rather than the giving of the mess from

  588. the messenger. It focuses on the message.

  589. Somebody says, amen. What they're saying is?

  590. I agree with that. That is a true statement.

  591. That is a statement, of fact, not the preacher said it real

  592. nice and he needs to be applauded.

  593. There's a difference folks there.

  594. Huge difference between clapping hands and saying, Amen, in

  595. conclusion, and I'm just about finished now.

  596. This passage right here. What have we learned?

  597. God is a spiritual being. So he's only going to be pleased

  598. with us when our worship our service to him is done properly.

  599. We've learned this to that must is a modifier.

  600. Must is an absolute. We must worship.

  601. God, God is the subject. He's the only object of our

  602. worship. And when we assemble, we must

  603. understand it is for God. We are the participants.

  604. God is the one as The Spectator, he is the one observing us.

  605. Worship means basically this to kiss the hand of or from a

  606. spiritual perspective, we are Thoroughly saying how great God

  607. Is by our actions in worship, we are bowing before him and always

  608. in that way. But we also understand this, it

  609. must be in spirit. And in truth, it must denote the

  610. proper attitude, the proper mindset and it has to be that

  611. which is in accordance with revealed truth lifting up.

  612. Holy hands. What's that mean means?

  613. Lifting up. Holy lives that the let the men

  614. have holy lives. Those that are Ryan as simple

  615. and other passages, bear that out finally clapping.

  616. That's clapping is not something that's appropriate in the

  617. assembly. That's a way to carry on a tune

  618. and that's not authorized. And it's also a way to applaud

  619. the speaker, and that is not authorized either.
