  1. I was sitting in on a study that online study when the

  2. congregation at Oakdale was having this last week, and One

  3. of the readers read from Daniel the third chapter.

  4. And the part that he read, just really brought out some good

  5. points. And I thought, well, I'll study

  6. that and and see if I can put together a little lesson that

  7. hopefully will help us and benefit us all and encourage us

  8. in our daily living, the times were living in.

  9. And I'm not talking about necessarily the pandemic that we

  10. that we're living in. I'm talking about the morality

  11. of this world, the times that we are living in our something like

  12. we've never seen before, things that are wrong are celebrated.

  13. And things that are right, are looked down upon.

  14. Morality is looked down upon if your moral, you're just an old

  15. prude. You're you're you're just not up

  16. with the world today and if you're immoral it just seems

  17. like you're praised and your glorified all the things that

  18. God has ordained are looked down upon in all things.

  19. God condemns Or praised. It seems today that everything

  20. is upside down. and so, What? We're going to notice this

  21. morning is that in the Book of Daniel, the nation of Israel was

  22. going through some troubling times as well.

  23. And they were in Babylonian captivity in here in, Daniel the

  24. first chapter verses 1 and 2, and the third year of the reign

  25. of jehoiakim, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon.

  26. Came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

  27. And the lord gave jehoiakim, king of Judah into his hand.

  28. And some of the Articles of the house of God, which he carried

  29. into the land of shinar to the house of his God, and he brought

  30. the Articles into the Treasure House of his God.

  31. So, God's people. God allowed them to be taken

  32. over. And to be besieged and the

  33. Articles, all these things were then taken to Nebuchadnezzar's

  34. stockpiles if you want to say and taken out of out of the

  35. possessions of the children of Israel, excuse me.

  36. This was decreed by God and it was because the nation of Israel

  37. was not following God and not doing the things, God wanted

  38. them to. They were, they were committing

  39. sin against God. and so, during this time, There were Daniel and

  40. several others that were selected and and were trained

  41. for three years, to have to be special servants to King

  42. Nebuchadnezzar, rest of Chapter One deals with that and then

  43. chapter 2 deals with Daniel interpreting the Kings Visions

  44. or the Kings dreams. These, these four men, the of

  45. the nation of Israel were the cream of the crop.

  46. They are the ones that were healthy.

  47. They were the ones that were smart and skilled in knowledge.

  48. They were given special food. Only the even the king 8, but

  49. then these men stood up and said, and especially Daniel

  50. said, we're not going to defile ourselves and eat things that

  51. are not pure and things that are not right. so, but they were

  52. then when they went into service, For King

  53. Nebuchadnezzar, they were given special names.

  54. Daniels name was Balthazar a servant of bail.

  55. And Anaya was given the to the name Shadrach, which means

  56. inspired by the sun. God Michele means who is what

  57. God is was renamed. Meshach I knew I wasn't going to

  58. pronounce it, right? So I had to stop and think about

  59. it. Me Shaggy.

  60. Who is known as the moon. God Azariah means the Lord's

  61. help but Abednego means servant of Nebo.

  62. So they were given these Babylonian names names to more

  63. being in tune with the gods that they worshipped and the idols in

  64. the and the false gods. So, these are the men that were

  65. going to talk about this morning.

  66. Not necessarily Daniel but Shadrach Meshach and Abednego

  67. Abednego So we've been going to begin our study in verse 1 of

  68. chapter 3. And it says Nebuchadnezzar, the

  69. king made an image of gold whose height was 60 cubits and it was

  70. and it's with six cubits. He set it up in the plain of

  71. dura in the province of Babylon. And King Nebuchadnezzar sent

  72. word to gather together. The satraps, the administrators,

  73. the governor's, the counselors, the treasure Jurors the judges,

  74. the magistrates and all the officials of the province's to

  75. come to the dedication of the image, which King Nebuchadnezzar

  76. had set up. So the set traps, the

  77. administrators, the governor's, the counselors, the treasures,

  78. the judges, the magistrates, and all, the officials of the

  79. Providence has gathered together for the dedication of the image,

  80. that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before the

  81. image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

  82. Then he heralded, he a Herald cried, then a Herald cried aloud

  83. to you. It is commanded.

  84. Oh people Nations and languages that at the time you hear the

  85. sound of the horn. Flute, harp lyre and sultry.

  86. In Symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and

  87. worship the gold image. That King Nebuchadnezzar has set

  88. up and whosoever does not fall down or worship shall be cast

  89. immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

  90. Now, today we see all kinds of laws and rules for living in

  91. this society that we live in the tells us that we need to think

  92. and we need to act in certain ways and will understand on some

  93. of those. We understand that if we need to

  94. drive down the right-hand side of the road and everybody else

  95. is driving down, the right-hand side of the road, we don't have

  96. a problem with that. But there are a lot of things

  97. today that tell us that we need to think a certain way that is

  98. not in tune with what God tells us to do.

  99. They tell us as we said, everything is upside down these

  100. days but they tell us we need to accept certain Lifestyles.

  101. We need to believe certain ways, and if you don't believe in that

  102. way, then you're named certain names, maybe it's a bigot, maybe

  103. it's a homophobe, maybe it's whatever you want to call it

  104. these days. But there are a lot certain laws

  105. that are in opposition to God's laws.

  106. And also then there is the peer pressure that we sometimes are

  107. put under to act in certain ways.

  108. When we're around, certain people are in certain

  109. atmospheres. If you want to say, it's going

  110. to verse 7. so at that time when all the people heard the sound

  111. of the horn, The flute harp and liar, in Symphony, with all

  112. kinds of music, all the people Nations and languages fell down,

  113. and worship the gold image, which King Nebuchadnezzar had

  114. set up. The king had his men build this

  115. image. That was by calculation over 90

  116. feet tall and almost 20 feet wide and it would have been

  117. visible for Rob probably miles in that area of the country, the

  118. king for all called, for all these different officials to

  119. come together for that meeting and be kind of like someone

  120. saying, well, everyone that's on the federal payroll needs to

  121. show up for this. All the officials of the land

  122. were supposed to show up and be there for this meeting.

  123. That was mandatory So he said from this point on every one

  124. Must Fall Down and Worship this image which the king had made.

  125. And if they didn't, they would be thrown into the fiery

  126. furnace. And so there was no waiting

  127. period. There was no trial or anything

  128. like that. If you didn't bow down, you

  129. would be noticed and you'd be immediately thrown into the

  130. fiery furnace. We know waiting.

  131. So as soon as the music Started soon, as the instruments were

  132. playing right at that first note, you'd see the whole crowd.

  133. Bow Down. That'd be a sight.

  134. Just to hear a sound and all of a sudden, everyone just drops to

  135. bow. Well, everyone did except three

  136. How was Shadrach Meshach and Abednego?

  137. So as that happens, of course, certain people notice these

  138. three men standing and here comes the social police.

  139. Here comes the as today they're called maybe Karen's they're the

  140. ones that come up and they're ones that are going to tattle on

  141. these three guys. So listen to verse 8 therefore

  142. at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the

  143. Jews they spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar oh King live

  144. forever. You O King have made a decree

  145. that everyone who hears the sound of the horn.

  146. Flute harp lyre and psaltery and Symphony with all kinds of music

  147. shall fall down and worship the gold image and whoever does not

  148. fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of the

  149. burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom you

  150. have set over the Affairs of the province of Babylon.

  151. Shadrach Meshach and Abednego these men O King, have not paid

  152. due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or

  153. worship the gold image, which you have set up.

  154. Oh, there's that. Always that little tattletale

  155. comes around, you know, and wants to spread that news and

  156. and and tell on someone else. And maybe we may be ridiculed,

  157. we may be intimidated, we may be falsely accused and so on for

  158. our faith and it seems that more and more is the case.

  159. These days, you will be ridiculed for your faith.

  160. These men were standing for what they believed in, no matter

  161. what, the decree was, no matter what the intimidation was, no

  162. matter what their peers thought of it, no matter what, the rest

  163. of the crowd. Did know what, no matter what

  164. anything did they knew what they had to do.

  165. And so do we these days? We may be ridiculed for what we

  166. believe in and what we stand for.

  167. Notice verse 13, then Nebuchadnezzar in Rage and fury

  168. gave the command to bring Shadrach Meshach and Abednego.

  169. So that, so they brought these men before the King,

  170. Nebuchadnezzar, spoke saying to them, is it true?

  171. Shadrach Meshach, and Abednego that you do not serve my gods,

  172. or worship the gold image, which I have set up.

  173. Now, if you are ready at the time, now notice here, King,

  174. Nebuchadnezzar is like, saying, I just want to make sure you

  175. understand this that you didn't misunderstand the decree that

  176. was given previously, I want to repeat it to you and make sure

  177. you understand it, he says. So now, if you are ready at the

  178. time, you hear the sound of the horn, the fluid the harp lyre

  179. and psaltery and Symphony with all kinds of music and you fall

  180. down and worship the image, which I have made.

  181. Good. But if you do not worship, you

  182. shall be immediately cast into the midst of a burning fiery

  183. furnace. And who is the god, who will

  184. deliver you from my hands. You see this was a man that

  185. thought in worldly ways he was at acknowledging, God for what

  186. God really was, he wasn't recognizing God.

  187. He was worshipping the idols and all these other things and all

  188. the gods that they had made amongst themselves and he says

  189. basically which one which God is it?

  190. That's going to save you from that.

  191. Well, they declared their faith, listen to The Confidence of

  192. these three. Young men verses 16 through 18,

  193. Shadrach Meshach and Abednego answered and said to the king o

  194. Nebuchadnezzar. We have no need to answer you in

  195. this matter. Wow.

  196. What a statement to a King? In other words, we don't answer

  197. to you Nebuchadnezzar. He's the one that's in

  198. Authority. He's the one that's in rural.

  199. He's the one that has their lives in his hands and they

  200. stand there and say we don't answer to you King,

  201. Nebuchadnezzar. If that is the case, our God.

  202. Whom we serve is able. To Deliver Us From The Burning

  203. fiery. Furnace That's a statement.

  204. A declaration of their faith. We don't have faith in your

  205. gods. In other words, we don't answer

  206. to you, we don't answer to other gods, we don't answer to

  207. anybody, but our God, whom we serve is able to Deliver Us from

  208. the fiery furnace. That's pretty strong.

  209. That's really strong. That's our God today.

  210. That is our God today. And he says, he goes on to say,

  211. And he will Deliver Us. From your hand.

  212. Oh King. But if not now notice he says

  213. let it be known to you. He says I'm putting you on.

  214. Notice I'm putting you on notice King, O King that we do not

  215. serve your God. Nor will we worship the gold

  216. image, which you have set up? These three men were not afraid.

  217. They were not afraid to decide to declare their faith in God.

  218. They were not afraid to stand up to at the intimidation.

  219. They were not in frayed, to stand up to the threats.

  220. They were not afraid to stand up to the ridicule.

  221. They were not afraid to stand up to the tattletales.

  222. They were not afraid to stand up to anyone else or anyone at all.

  223. Said we will serve our God because he is able to Deliver Us

  224. from the fiery furnace. That's our God, too.

  225. That's our God. He's able to Deliver Us from all

  226. the things that we put up with in this life.

  227. The pain. The suffering, the intimidation,

  228. the mental abuse, the the worry, the sin, and all of these

  229. things, God is able to deliver us.

  230. Because he has that ability. They stood for what they

  231. believed. These three young men, I'm sure

  232. remembered the command that was given to back in Exodus the

  233. second chapter verses to thrive. He said I am the Lord your God.

  234. Who brought you out of the land of Egypt?

  235. Out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods

  236. before me, you shall not make for yourselves.

  237. A carved carved image, any likeness of anything that is in

  238. heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the

  239. water, under the Earth. You shall not bow down to them

  240. nor serve them for. I am the Lord your God.

  241. I am a jealous God. Our God is a jealous God.

  242. Our is a god that is the only God whom we serve.

  243. We do not serve man, we do not serve anything else.

  244. Other than our God, that's it. We get caught up in all kinds of

  245. things of the world, get distracted by things of the

  246. world that pull us away from the things, but they made this

  247. commitment. You know, I like people that

  248. make commitments just like you do.

  249. When someone comes to how your house and maybe gives you a bid

  250. on cleaning, your carpets or painting your house or putting a

  251. roof on your house or whatever, and you shake hands with them or

  252. you sign a contract and they come and they do that job and

  253. they do it the way they intended to do it.

  254. And you what you thought they were doing it, they're committed

  255. and everything goes good. We like commitments.

  256. We like people that are committed to do what they say

  257. they're going to do. Seems like more and more of

  258. these days that, you know, when you go to sign a contract, you

  259. have to have a team of lawyers behind you to make sure that

  260. nobody's going to get away with something.

  261. The old handshake is not what it used to be.

  262. I like people that make commitments but we need to be

  263. committed to serving God today, too.

  264. We need to be committed to not be participating in Morality In

  265. sexual sin. In and even the appearance of

  266. evil the marriage vows that we that we made when we were, when

  267. we were younger or those still things that were committed to

  268. today in the world today. Those vows almost mean nothing.

  269. Committing ourselves on our families to serving the lord,

  270. make a commitment to raise our children in the nurture and

  271. admonition of the Lord. So that they become Christians

  272. so that they can be saved. Making that commitment.

  273. These men made a decision to remain holy and faithful, no

  274. matter what the circumstances. and, you know, we make that

  275. decision. To remain.

  276. Holy and faithful. Not when we're confronted with

  277. The temptation, but way before, were confronted with the

  278. Temptation, you've heard me say that before our decision should

  279. have been made a long time ago, that if this ever happens, this

  280. is what we will do. Why is it we have to talk people

  281. down from from sin sometimes? Well, Shadrach Meshach, and

  282. Abednego didn't have to be talked down in into this

  283. commitment. It was what they wanted to do

  284. to, please God. You know, as I said we're so

  285. pulled away were so Lord, by the things of this world that the

  286. world has to offer us and it pulls us away from our

  287. commitment to God and remaining faithful.

  288. They knew that there was a possibility that they would die,

  289. whatever the Lord's will was, but they didn't know what the

  290. Lord's will was. They knew that there was a

  291. possibility that they would die. But they also remembered that

  292. command, that they should serve no other gods and they were

  293. willing to do what God Said. To please him.

  294. Sometimes we know what we are going to have to give up.

  295. To make the right choices and remain faithful to God.

  296. And sometimes that's we struggle with that.

  297. Sometimes, it's notice verse 19, then Nebuchadnezzar was full of

  298. Fury and the expression on his face changed towards Shadrach

  299. Meshach and Abednego. He spoken meant commanded that.

  300. They heat the furnace seven times more than it was at

  301. usually heated. So maybe I'm pretty mad.

  302. Of course, you know, a king, the one that is in Authority, the

  303. one that everyone bows down to in the one that gives all the

  304. rules and all the all the way that he wants everything done.

  305. And then these three men come up and say we don't answer to you.

  306. King what you have to say about it doesn't mean anything to us.

  307. Do you imagine how mad he'd get? Yeah.

  308. Could you imagine one of your children come to you and say you

  309. tell them I want you to go out and side mow the yard, I don't

  310. care what you say Mom and Dad, I ain't do it.

  311. Would get pretty upset. You know what?

  312. And you know God I believe had a hand in the Wake.

  313. King Nebuchadnezzar reacted here.

  314. Because I think he wanted God wanted to prove beyond a shadow

  315. of a doubt that he was in control.

  316. King said heat that furnace up and Stoke it up seven times

  317. hotter on what it usually is. Don't you think God was kind of

  318. making sure that King Nebuchadnezzar made it sure that

  319. there was no doubt that when all this happened and is we're going

  320. to see happened that there was no doubt that God had a hand in

  321. it, it was God in that was in control.

  322. And remember. When we were at home, you know

  323. with come in from maybe being out gone from home for a while

  324. and we had a wood stove in the house and it be kind of cold.

  325. And say boys won't just woke up that fire and get it.

  326. Get it going, get it warmed up. No, someone would get that

  327. thing. Go to open up the dampers on it,

  328. and just get the thing just blazing.

  329. Get that sometimes we got a little too hot, see the old

  330. stovepipe, just read Got a little too hot that's what they

  331. were doing. Stoke up that fire, get it seven

  332. times hotter than what it is. First something that we're

  333. afraid of? Our total all of our parents

  334. told us, never play with fire, you're going to get burned.

  335. We do everything to keep the in our power to keep fire under

  336. control. We have smoke detectors in our

  337. in our homes. We keep fire extinguishers

  338. nearby and just in case we haven't set our pants on fire if

  339. we're welding, But they had total faith that God would

  340. deliver them. They had trust in God.

  341. When I was younger. Not too long after we got

  342. married, I was, I was working with the fire department there

  343. in Cottage Grove middle of night.

  344. We got alarm went out there was an auto parts place that was on

  345. fire, they had paint and things like that.

  346. And well, you know, when you pull up, it's a little different

  347. today than it was then. Got off the truck Lieutenant.

  348. Grabbed me by the back of the, by the back of the jacket.

  349. And said, let's go. Grab the hose and we didn't, we

  350. didn't put on an air mask or anything at that point in time.

  351. We just ran right in there. Smoke was so thick.

  352. You couldn't see your hand in front of you.

  353. You were breathing smoke, not air.

  354. And he grabbed a hold of me and just shove me right in there

  355. and, and was but, but you know what, I had trust and I had

  356. faith in him because he had the back of my jacket and I had

  357. trust that he knew what he was doing.

  358. And if things got too bad, he was going to yank me and pull me

  359. right out of there. That's the way God works with

  360. us. We have to trust him.

  361. We have to put faith in him because he is able.

  362. Absolutely is Abel. Isaiah 41:10 fear.

    Isaiah 41:10

  363. Not for I am with you be. Not dismayed for I am.

  364. Your God. I will strengthen you.

  365. Yes, I will help you. I will hold uphold you with my

  366. righteous right hand. There is peace with whatever.

  367. God's answer was to them. They had that piece in their

  368. mind, God is able notice Ephesians 3 and verse 20.

  369. Now to him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above

  370. all that we ask or think, according to the power that

  371. works in US. We know God is able.

  372. We know he's able to take us and help us through time trying

  373. times of trial and troubles and problems in our life.

  374. But beyond what we can even comprehend God has abilities

  375. that we do not even understand. So why not put faith in him?

  376. he abundantly exceedingly abundantly above all that we can

  377. even think or ask all we get on our print knees and we pray and

  378. we pray and we pray and we ask and we ask and ask and God is

  379. able to do that and even more God is able now, this is verse

  380. 20 through 25. Any commanders, certain Mighty

  381. Men of Valor who were in his army to bind, Shadrach Meshach

  382. and Abednego and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

  383. Then these men were Bound in their coats, their trousers,

  384. their turbans and their outer gone out.

  385. Other garments and were cast into the midst of the burning

  386. fiery furnace. Therefore, because the king

  387. command, the King's Command was urgent.

  388. The furnace exceedingly, hot, the flame of the fire killed

  389. those men. Men who stood up.

  390. Who took up Shadrach Meshach and Abednego.

  391. That fire was so hot. They had an experience that

  392. before because this fire was seven times hotter than what

  393. they had ever experienced that the men that threw them in their

  394. died. And these three men.

  395. Shadrach Meshach and Abednego fell down bound into the midst

  396. of the burning fiery furnace. Then King Nebuchadnezzar was

  397. astonished and heroes in haste and spoke saying to his

  398. counselors. Did we not cast three men bound

  399. into the midst of the fire? They answered and said to the

  400. king. True O King.

  401. Look, he answered, I see four men loose walking in the midst

  402. of the fire and they are not hurt.

  403. And the form of the fourth is like the son of God.

  404. I think God had a hand in that, no doubt about it.

  405. This wasn't King Nebuchadnezzar's gods.

  406. This was God. The Shadrach Meshach and

  407. Abednego decided to remain. Holy and faithful to God.

  408. They serve God and no one else in the world that we live in.

  409. We don't have to participate in the Sin that's around us.

  410. We have to live among it but we don't have to participate in it.

  411. No. To Second Corinthians 6 and

  412. verses 14 through 18. I got a hold of ahead of myself.

  413. Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers for

  414. what Fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness

  415. and what communion has light with darkness and what Accord

  416. has Christ with Belial or what part has a Believer with unbeli

  417. an unbeliever and what argument agreement has the temple of God

  418. with Idols for you? Are the Temple of the Living.

  419. God as God has said, I will dwell in them and walk among

  420. them. I will be their God and they

  421. shall be my people. Therefore come out from among

  422. them and be separate says, the Lord.

  423. Do not touch, what is unclean and I will receive you.

  424. I will be a father to you and you shall be my sons and

  425. daughters says the Lord Almighty We have to live in a world of

  426. sin. But we don't have to partake in

  427. it. He says come out from among them

  428. and be separate. Separate means there is a

  429. dividing line, a separation, a complete separation from what is

  430. sinful and what is not sinful. That doesn't mean that you can

  431. walk over here part of the time and then come back across the

  432. line. It says, what come out from

  433. among them and be separate. Separate ourselves from the

  434. things of the world. And there is a value in

  435. remaining faithful while we're going through these trials and

  436. testing of our faith. Our faith will be tested

  437. Revelation 2 and verse 10. Do not fear any of those things

  438. which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to

  439. throw some of you into prison, but that you may be tested and

  440. you will have tribulation 10 days, be faithful unto death and

  441. I will give you the Crown of Life.

  442. Their faithfulness, these three men their faithfulness affected

  443. other people, whether they realized it or not, but it

  444. affected other people. And so, does our lives, we may

  445. not realize how we influence and affect other people in our

  446. faithfulness to encourage others, to be faithful, and

  447. remain faithful in the patterns of Our Lives.

  448. People are watching us to see how we react when we go through,

  449. trials and problems in life. And we have the opportunity to

  450. influence those people. Look how it affected.

  451. King Nebuchadnezzar. Then Nebuchadnezzar went near

  452. the mouth of the burning fiery, furnace and spoke saying,

  453. Shadrach Meshach and Abednego Servants of the most high God

  454. come out and come here. All of a sudden King

  455. Nebuchadnezzar acknowledges God. Look how that affected, the

  456. king, he wanted them, not to just too long ago to Bow Down

  457. and Worship his idols and his gods.

  458. And now he is recognizing the one and only true God.

  459. It says, come out and come here, and Shadrach Meshach, and

  460. Abednego came from the midst of the fire, and the set traps

  461. administrators Governors, and the Kings counselors gathered

  462. together. And they saw these men on Whose

  463. bodies, the fire had no power. The hair of their head was not

  464. singed nor were their garments affected and the smell of the

  465. fire was not on them. Well, you know how it is, where

  466. we sit around a campfire. We're not sticking our hand in

  467. the fire. We're not doing all these things

  468. but we sit around that fire and we go away and we smell like

  469. campfire smoke, don't we? There was not a hair on their

  470. head, that was even singed. Nor even the smell of the fire

  471. on them. Nebuchadnezzar spoke saying,

  472. blessed, be the god of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who sent

  473. his Angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him,

  474. and they have frustrated, the king's words and yielded, their

  475. bodies that they should not serve nor worship, any God,

  476. except their own God. Therefore I make a decree that

  477. any people Nation or language would speaks against amidst a

  478. Miss against the god of Shadrach.

  479. Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut in pieces.

  480. And their houses shall be made in a sheep because there is no

  481. other God who can deliver like this.

  482. Then the king promoted, Shadrach Meshach and Abednego and the

  483. province of Babylon. You see how these three?

  484. Men's faithfulness, impacted the lives of other people.

  485. So does our faithfulness, when we remain faithful in times of

  486. troubles and trials Humans and Their Kingdoms, glorify their

  487. own power and they redefine, right and wrong.

  488. And don't acknowledge God as the true king.

  489. You can say that something is right?

  490. That doesn't make it right. We know that God knows that.

  491. We can say something is wrong, that doesn't make it wrong.

  492. We know that God knows that. We just need to remain faithful

  493. to God. God has promised that he will

  494. overcome and has overcome the kingdoms of this Earth.

  495. And one day those kingdoms will be destroyed and the only

  496. Kingdom that will remain is the kingdom of God.
