  1. We're learning about nothing new this morning stuff that we heard

  2. before in the past. But I hope to bring it in a way

  3. that we may be sheds. A little different light than we

  4. have seen before and I hope that we can all learn something from

  5. it. We're going to take our text

  6. from 2nd Corinthians, chapter 5, verse 11.

  7. And our study will go all the way through chapter 6 and verse

  8. 3. And we are title of our lesson

  9. is just simply God, So we'll begin reading our text in second

  10. Corinthians. Begin 5.

  11. Beginning in verse 11, knowing therefore the terror of the

  12. lord, we persuade men but we are well known to God.

  13. And I also trust are well known in your constance's.

  14. For we do not commend ourselves again to you but give you

  15. opportunity to boast on our behalf that you may have an

  16. answer for those who boast in appearance and not in heart for

  17. If we are beside ourselves, it is for God.

  18. Or if we are of sound mind, it is for you for the love of

  19. Christ, compels us because we judge thus that if one died for

  20. all then, all died. And he died for all that those

  21. who live should live no longer for themselves.

  22. But for him who died for them and rose again therefore from

  23. now on WE regard no one according to the flesh even

  24. though we have known Christ according to the flesh yet now

  25. we know him. Thus no longer.

  26. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation old

  27. things have passed away, behold? All things have become new.

  28. Now, all things are of God who has reconciled us to himself.

  29. Self through Jesus Christ and has given us the ministry of

  30. reconciliation that is that God was in Christ.

  31. Reconciling the world to himself not imputing their trespasses to

  32. them and has committed to us the world of reckons word of

  33. reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for

  34. Christ as though. God were pleading through us.

  35. We implore you on Christ's behalf be reconciled to God for.

  36. He made him who knew no sin to be sin for us that we We might

  37. become his righteousness of God in him, become the righteousness

  38. of God in him. We then, as workers together

  39. with him, also plead with, you not to receive the grace of God,

  40. in vain for, he says, in an acceptable time, I have heard

  41. you and in the day of salvation, I have helped you behold.

  42. Now is the accepted time behold. Now is the day of salvation.

  43. We give no offense in anything that our ministry may not be

  44. blamed. so, as members of The church here had plans Road, and

  45. Bleak Bakersfield May the fear of God Captivate Us in verse 11,

  46. he says Since then, we know what is to fear the lord, we try to

  47. persuade others. Paul says, I do.

  48. We do we all do what we do, because of the fear of God,

  49. there's a hunter over 300 times in different times, in the

  50. scripture, where the fear of God is talked about 300 times.

  51. Like in Psalms 1 11 and verse 10, says, the fear of the Lord

  52. is the beginning of wisdom. And so, when we go to the

  53. commentaries of this passage here, in second Corinthians

  54. dealing verse 11, we immediately read that this is talking about

  55. about reverence and respect of God and I have no doubt in my

  56. mind that that's partly what it means.

  57. But I don't want us to think that when we read just about

  58. reverence and respect, we miss to have the fear of God to fear

  59. Him. You, when I read that, that's

  60. what I see. And when in you know, we read

  61. about people who came into contact with God, you know, in

  62. the Old Testament, we read about, you know, Isaiah got a

  63. glimpse of the glory of God and his immediate rack reaction.

  64. Was I am dead. I am dead.

  65. Can't even lift his face before God.

  66. And some people say, well that's just the Old Testament, you

  67. know, things were different back then.

  68. Well, that's not the case. You know, if we go to Revelation

  69. John, John, who was the Beloved disciple in the one whom Jesus

  70. loved John. Got a glimpse of Jesus in heaven

  71. and he says as soon as I saw him, I fell over as though I was

  72. dead. And then he goes on to write

  73. about of course, thousands and thousands of angels who are

  74. bowing down to the throne of God and awe and Dreadful fear to

  75. God. And I'm convinced that if we got

  76. a glimpse of God here today we would not be standing.

  77. We would be in fear and in awe of God.

  78. And if we knew the gravity of the one who we've gathered here,

  79. this morning to Worship in this room and he came, we would not

  80. be standing, we'd be on our faces and that causes me to look

  81. at my life and see such a lack of fear.

  82. Sometimes that I have that we have from God.

  83. You know, do we realize who were worshipping Even in prayer, do

  84. we realize who are praying too. I know when I pray my mind tends

  85. to wander sometimes. You know.

  86. I think about what people are thinking of me when I pray.

  87. What are they thinking about my prayer?

  88. And I'm not even thinking the fact that we're praying to God

  89. and we're about to listen to God's passages.

  90. Here, listen to the word of God, speak to us here through what

  91. we're going to study. And and we just need to

  92. understand that and I hope we not of course, gather here this

  93. morning just to hear myself, preach or hear some good Harmony

  94. and her songs. And if we are here for that and

  95. we've missed the whole point, the entire point.

  96. We've gathered here to meet with God and sometimes Sunday after

  97. Sunday, it feels like sometimes there's such a casual casual

  98. approach to our worship to what I've done and what we do.

  99. And that cannot be so It makes no sense.

  100. Of course, this is casual Christianity in our culture

  101. right now, very casual So I want us before we go any further.

  102. I want us to think about what we've gathered here who we've

  103. gathered here to meet with into worship.

  104. And before we go any further, I've asked for Brethren to come

  105. forward and and give us four passages that I've either told

  106. them to read or that they suggested to me to read which

  107. explains the fear of God, that shows the reverence and respect

  108. that we got to have God and once they come up here, I will get

  109. back up and finish up my lesson. So we'll have all start with a

  110. with a first passage and then the brother know which ones are

  111. coming up. For that.

  112. So, Psalms 97 verses 1 through 6.

    Psalms 97:1–6

  113. The Lord Reigns let the Earth Rejoice.

  114. Let the multitude of the aisles be glad clouds and darkness

  115. around him. Righteousness and Justice are

  116. the foundation of his throne of fire goes before him and burns

  117. up his enemies. Round about his Lightnings like

  118. the world the Earth sees and trembles the mountains.

  119. Melt like Wax at the presence of the Lord at the presence of the

  120. Lord, the whole Earth. The heavens declare his

  121. righteousness. And all the people see his

  122. glory. I'm reading from Isaiah, the

  123. fortieth chapter 1 verses 21 through 26.

  124. Prophet Isaiah says, have you not known?

  125. Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from

  126. the beginning? Have you not understood from the

  127. foundations of the earth? It is he who sits above the

  128. circle of the earth and it said to habitants are like

  129. grasshoppers who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and

  130. spreads them out like a tent to dwell in he brings the princes

  131. to nothing. He makes the judges of the earth

  132. useless. I scarcely shall they be planted

  133. scarcely? Shall they be sewn scarcely.

  134. Shall there? Stop take root in the earth when

  135. he will also blow on them and they will wither and the

  136. Whirlwind will take them away like stubble to whom then will

  137. you liken me or to whom shall I? Be equal says the Holy One lift

  138. up your eyes on high and see who has created these things who

  139. brings out their host by number. He calls them all by name by the

  140. greatness of his might and the strength of his power.

  141. No one is missing. I'll be reading from Isaiah

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  142. chapter 6 and we will read verses 1 through 5 Isaiah

  143. chapter, 6, verses 1 through 5. In the year that King Uzziah

  144. died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne high and lifted up and

  145. the train of his robe. Filled the temple.

  146. Above it stood seraphim. Each one was with six wings to

  147. the covered, his face with two that covered his feet.

  148. And with two he flew and one cried to another and said, holy

  149. holy holy is the Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of his

  150. glory and the post of the door were shaken by the voice of him,

  151. who cried out and the house was filled with smoke.

  152. So I said, woe is me for. I am undone because I'm a man of

  153. unclean. Unclean lips and I dwell in the

  154. midst of people of unclean, lips for my eyes, have seen the king,

  155. the Lord of hosts. I'll be reading, I'll be reading

  156. from Psalms 51. Chapter 16 to 23.

  157. But to the wicked, God says what right?

  158. Have you declare my statute or take my common in your mouth

  159. seeing you hate instructions and cause my words behind you.

  160. When you saw her thieve, you consent.

  161. And with him and have been partaking out daltrey's, you

  162. give your mouth to evil, and your tongue for frames descent.

  163. You sit and speak against your brother.

  164. You slander your own mother son. These things you have done and I

  165. kept silent you thought I was that I was altogether like you

  166. but I will rebuke you and send them in order before your eyes.

  167. Now, consider this you who forgot God.

  168. Lest I tear you a pieces and there'd be none to deliver.

  169. Hi ever. Offered Praises.

  170. Glorify me and then and to him who ordered his conduct again.

  171. Alright, I will show the salvation of God.

  172. I'll be reading from Revelations, the fourth chapter,

  173. I'm reading from the King, James version, relishes for, and I'll

  174. begin reading there in verse number 4.

  175. And around about The Throne were four and 20 seats.

  176. And upon the seats, I saw four and 20 Elders sitting clothed in

  177. white raiment and they had on their heads, crowns of gold and

  178. out of the throw proceedings Lightnings and thunderings and

  179. voices. And there were seven lamps of

  180. fire burning Before the Throne which are the seven spirits of

  181. God. and Before the Throne, there was a sea of glass like

  182. unto Crystal and in the midst of the throne and around about The

  183. Throne were four beasts full of eyes before and behind And the

  184. first Beast was like a lion and the second beast, like a calf,

  185. the third Beast had a face as a man, and the fourth Beast was

  186. like a flying eagle. and the four beasts had each of them,

  187. six wings about him and they were full of eyes within and

  188. they rest not day and night saying, holy holy, holy Lord God

  189. Almighty, which was and is and is to come

  190. just think for a moment about the way your life changes, when

  191. you realize this is the god That we worship.

  192. When were captivated by the fear of God, we look back up to

  193. Second Corinthians 5 and verse 6, because down in verse 11, he

  194. says, therefore knowing the fear of the Lord.

  195. So we know that he's building upon something, that's why he,

  196. that's what he just said because it says therefore in light of

  197. this. So what's he building on

  198. inverse? Listen to verse 6, he says

  199. there. So we are always confident

  200. knowing that, while we are at home in the body, we are absent.

  201. From the Lord. For we for we walk by faith, not

  202. by sight. We are confident.

  203. Yes. Well, please rather to be absent

  204. from the body and to be present with the Lord therefore we make

  205. it our aim, whether present or absent to be well pleasing in

  206. him. So whether we are at home or

  207. away, we are to please him. And then we listen to verse 10

  208. here says for, we must all appear before the Judgment seat

  209. of Christ. That each one may receive the

  210. things done in the body according to what has been done

  211. whether good or bad. So here's where I don't

  212. necessarily necessarily think that it's just reverence of

  213. respect for Paul here. This is fear in his own life, he

  214. knows that one day, he's going to be standing before Jesus to

  215. be Arched and he knows what I want to remind all of us here

  216. this morning, every single person in this room that we are

  217. going to be standing before Christ one day and he will be

  218. judging us. So salt Paul says, as a result,

  219. my aim in my in my life is to please him.

  220. That's my only aim, that's his only goal is to please him.

  221. And I think about, you know, my life and even in my, you know,

  222. my teaching and singing and in this congregation My aim is not

  223. to please you. My aim is not to please anybody

  224. else. Like in a in a sense but not in

  225. an arrogant way, I could care less about what you think about

  226. me. Because in the end you're not

  227. going to judge me. Jesus will be our judge.

  228. We are going to stand before him and I'm going to be held

  229. accountable for whether I did or did not do what Jesus instructed

  230. us to do. So instructed me to do, my aim

  231. is to please him. Our aim is to please him.

  232. So this is where I realized the beauty of the fear of God.

  233. It's what Proverbs 19 23 says, the fear of the Lord leads to

  234. life and he who has it will abide in satisfaction.

  235. So whoever has the fear of the Lord can be satisfied.

  236. Why can't it be satisfied? Because we're free from fearing

  237. anything else in this world? If we have the fear of God,

  238. we've got nothing else to fear. We don't have to be afraid of

  239. anything else. We don't have to be afraid of

  240. death itself. We don't have to fear death.

  241. We don't have to fear, man. We don't have to fear anything

  242. else When We Fear, God, and it changes us, it changes you.

  243. We live with courage. In this world, we're not afraid

  244. to speak the gospel to those around us.

  245. Those that we work with. We're not afraid of being

  246. awkward around them, because of that, we're not afraid of

  247. rejection. What we're afraid of is standing

  248. before Christ Hyundai and being accountable for what we did in

  249. our lives for him. Man is not our judge.

  250. Christ is our judge and we should fear Him.

  251. Then we think about how that compels us the way we live with

  252. others. Then he says in verse 11 knowing

  253. therefore the terror of the lord, we persuade men but we are

  254. well known to God. And I also trust are well known

  255. in your consciousness. And he's talking about the work

  256. of the ministry is sharing the gospel with those around him,

  257. with other people, he's trying to persuade them to come to

  258. Christ. He does this because of the fear

  259. of the Lord because there's not, he knows it's not just him

  260. that's going to be standing for Christ.

  261. One day, it's going to be everybody standing before Christ

  262. will day. So Paul is trying to spread the

  263. gospel and do the work that he has been instructed to do.

  264. So we think about our friends or coworkers or family members who

  265. don't know. Christ one day, they're going to

  266. be Standing before Christ, as well as judge, it could be

  267. tonight. None of us, not one of our

  268. family members are guaranteed tomorrow or the next hour for

  269. the next week. We're not guaranteed that.

  270. So the fear of God leads us to persuade them today.

  271. And here we realize knowing the fear of God is a few huge effect

  272. on our day-to-day living. So, if we approach church or

  273. Christianity as a casual ho-hum, then, you know, we're not

  274. compelled the next day to go to our co-worker, or to our

  275. friends, or those who were acquainted with and, and, and,

  276. and say, you need to hear about Christ.

  277. I want to persuade you to trust in Christ, why?

  278. So they can participate in the routine that we go through.

  279. No. When were gripped by the fear of

  280. God. And we see a co-worker tomorrow

  281. morning or a friend, or we talked to them, concern for

  282. their soul concerned, for the Judgment Day or compelled to

  283. persuade them, it even came up in a conversation.

  284. The other day that there are roughly 2 billion people in this

  285. world right now who have little to no access or know who Jesus

  286. is. They've never heard his name or

  287. don't have access. Stu the gospel.

  288. All those people are going to be accountable as well.

  289. There are going to be accountable whether or not

  290. they've obeyed, Jesus for salvation, having not heard the

  291. gospel, they will have no opportunity to trust in Christ

  292. and Obey him. They're going to stand before

  293. him and be sentenced to either eternity of parkour with him.

  294. So people who fear God and know that judgment is coming, we

  295. don't sit back and use all of our resources, making church a

  296. little more comfortable for us or for ourselves and so, Hope

  297. that encourages us. So some might be thinking well,

  298. the fear of God was it all just fear and doom and gloom.

  299. Why just fear doesn't God loved us.

  300. Of course he does. Look at this may the fear of God

  301. control us. So, Paul after talking about the

  302. fear of the Lord starts, commending himself in his

  303. ministry, he's he's describing his ministry.

  304. He says in verse 13 before, if we are beside ourselves, it is

  305. of god. Or if we are of sound mind, it

  306. is for you. And then he says, in verse 14,

  307. which is a great phrase for the love of Christ, compels us the

  308. love of Christ. Compels us were compelled were

  309. controlled by the love of God. One translation, I came across

  310. said the love of Christ leaves me, no other option.

  311. Like leaves us? No other option.

  312. Christ's love for us. There's nothing else that we can

  313. be doing. And it's in a sense, were

  314. controlled by his love. because we judge this, that if one died

  315. for all, then, all died and he died for all, That those who

  316. live should no longer live for themselves. but for him who died

  317. for them and rose again, So we need to contemplate the

  318. immensity of God's love for all. So he died for all verse 15 says

  319. now, some people take this text immediately and going to

  320. universalism and say well that means everybody is going to be

  321. saved in the end because Christ died for all, and that's not

  322. what this passage is saying. At all, the passage is clearly

  323. talking about those who have died with Christ who have

  324. trusted him and obey the gospel call, which is what we're going

  325. to talk about the second when it comes to reconciliation.

  326. But we but we know of course, in John 3:16 God.

    John 3:16

  327. So loved the world that he gave his only son.

  328. God loves the whole sinful world and he loves everybody.

  329. Second Peter 3:9 says the Lord is not slack concerning his

    2 Peter 3:9

  330. promise as some count slackness but is long-suffering toward us

  331. not willing that any should perish but that all should come

  332. to repentance. He desires all people.

  333. Everyone all to come to repentance.

  334. We think about the worst people on the planet, where's

  335. terrorists? You know, we just heard this

  336. last week of guy who went to his workplace in San Jose and

  337. decided to take a few of his co-workers lives and then his

  338. own God desires him. Desired him at one point for

  339. repentance. We think about people who, in

  340. the most vile people in the world, God died or Jesus died

  341. for them as well. He created that person in his

  342. own image. We just need to contemplate the

  343. immensity of that and his love for us.

  344. So when we think about everybody around us, our friends, our

  345. co-workers, our acquaintances God, died for them as well.

  346. And this is what I love about Paul when he says Christ died

  347. for all because Christ death is sufficient, Parole in Galatians,

  348. 2:20 says, I have been crucified with Christ is no longer I who

  349. live but Christ lives in me and the life, which I now live in

  350. the flesh, I live by faith. And the Son of God who loved me

  351. and gave himself for me. Jesus died for us, Jesus Loves

  352. Me. Jesus loves you.

  353. And so we just think about this for a minute, all these passage

  354. that we read the god around whom thousands upon thousands of

  355. Angels at this moment right now are bowing down never-ceasing

  356. day and night Singing. Holy holy, holy is the Lord God

  357. Almighty. This is the god.

  358. Who calls the Stars by name? The God, who can, who is the

  359. consuming fire? This is the god who spoke all

  360. creation and came into being. He spoke a word and we got

  361. light, he spoke a word and we receive Darkness.

  362. He spoke a word in the ocean. We had oceans and mountains.

  363. He spoke a word and you got animals.

  364. This is the god right now who is sustaining seven billion people

  365. in this world at this time and on top of that number he

  366. sustaining all the animals and plants and weather and the

  367. insects everything. He's allowing you to take that

  368. breath that you just took God sustains.

  369. All and this God loves you, and I And when we think about that,

  370. and we understand God. It'll take and should take

  371. control of Our Lives. It will leave us with no choice

  372. and that's what's so interesting.

  373. It goes against all, the self esteem in the self, take care of

  374. yourself culture that we live in it.

  375. And this time, you know, we think love means that we need to

  376. think about ourselves more often.

  377. And that's that completely opposite of what God tells us to

  378. do the love of God for Paul, cause Paul for him to think less

  379. about himself and to think more about living for Christ in

  380. others. And so may the love of God

  381. control us. The gospel of God reconciles us.

  382. We're going to go come back in verses 16 and 17 and second but

  383. in verses 18 through 21, he starts talking about the

  384. reconciliation and he uses that word five different times in

  385. verses 18. 19 and 20 be reconciled reconciling

  386. reconciliation reconciled. And the whole picture here is

  387. not just reconciliation to God. But reconciliation to others.

  388. Remember, the context that were talking about here in

  389. Corinthians Paul? It was experiencing conflict

  390. between the members at Corinth here and he was trying to write

  391. about reconciliation with others and with them.

  392. And but he knows that reconciliation with them is only

  393. based on reconciliation with God first And understanding the

  394. gospel and that's what brings us together here in this building,

  395. right? This is what makes the church.

  396. The church. The gospel of reconciliation is

  397. God reconciles himself to us. He reconciles us to each other

  398. and it brings us together. What unites Us in this room is

  399. not gender. Or ethnicity or socioeconomic

  400. status of this kind, or a background of that kind or

  401. political positions or that kind of political position.

  402. No, we're brought here together solely by the fact that we have

  403. been reconciled to God through Christ.

  404. That's why we are here together. In our sin, we were separated

  405. from God as his enemies. So members here in this

  406. congregation in our sin we were once separated from God as his

  407. enemies that was all of our problem.

  408. We were all enemies of God. James 4:4 says adulterers and

    James 4:4

  409. adulteresses. Do you not know that friendship

  410. with the world is enmity with God?

  411. Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes

  412. himself an enemy of God. Because we have all sinned

  413. against God. Every single one of us in this

  414. room has rebelled against God and this, this holy God, that we

  415. that we worship and every single one of us has said at some point

  416. you are not Lord of my life. I'm going to go ahead and do

  417. things my way, we've all done. We've all said it in every one

  418. of us has turned aside from his way to our way.

  419. This is The God Who Speaks in the ocean waves, obey the God,

  420. who speaks in the clouds, go out and come in according to his

  421. word. And this is the god who speaks

  422. and everything in all creation responds in obedience to him

  423. until we get back to man, you and I and this God speaks, we

  424. have the audacity to say no. We had the audacity to reject

  425. God. What he has told us to do.

  426. And in our sin as a result. We have been set free from God

  427. as his enemies. So what is this God done.

  428. Through our substitute. We have been reconciled to God.

  429. In verse 15. When it said that one is died

  430. for all that preposition for means, or in the place of.

  431. But for him who died for them in our place, he was died.

  432. He died in raised talking about Jesus.

  433. The same thing down in verse 21. For our sake, are in our place.

  434. Got 44, he made him who knew no sin to be come sin.

  435. This is where through our substitute.

  436. We see from the very beginning of the Bible, all the way

  437. through the Bible because of are rebelling against God, we

  438. deserve to be separated. From him forever because of our

  439. sin, the payment for sin is death, Eternal Death, and All of

  440. Us in this room deserve it because of our sin against God,

  441. we deserve Eternal Eternal debt. This is the reality of Bible

  442. teaches it, from cover, to cover, sin, leads to death.

  443. So what has God done? He has sent his son to come to

  444. us and in verse 21, it says Christ had no sin in Christ had

  445. no sin, nothing perfection. Jesus lived the life that none

  446. of us could live. Jesus lived a perfect sinless

  447. life but then died. So well if the punishment for

  448. the payment for sin is death and Christ died, why did he die?

  449. If he had no sin? How is that possible?

  450. Well, he is the substitute for sinners.

  451. He's dying in our place. Because of our sins.

  452. He's taking the payment of sin do to you and to me upon himself

  453. so that we can be reconciled to God.

  454. But that's not the end though, it.

  455. And that's the beauty of reconciliation is that it just

  456. takes us one step further one Rider.

  457. Summed it up best, he said, justification is a Judicial term

  458. that used that's used in the court.

  459. A judge, May acquit and accused person without ever entering

  460. into a personal relationship with him or her.

  461. He announces the verdict, not guilty, the accused hardly

  462. expect to be invited over for dinner by the judge and probably

  463. hopes. He will never see that judge

  464. again in the judges, same for him.

  465. But here the judge enters into a personal relationship with the

  466. accused, which is necessary because the judge is the one who

  467. has been sent against as the focus of the a personal

  468. hostility. God does not simply make a

  469. bookkeeping alteration by dropping charges against Isis.

  470. Instead God gives himself to us. How is this possible Verse 18?

  471. All things are of God. So get this.

  472. The God is the author of reconciliation.

  473. God does all this William Temple said.

  474. The only thing that I contribute to my Redemption is the sin from

  475. which I need to be redeemed. That's the only thing we bring

  476. to the table is the problem and that's the beauty of

  477. reconciliation. Every time we are reconciled,

  478. the word reconciled is used here as a verb.

  479. It's a passive verb. Like we are reconciled to God,

  480. which begs the question, who's the subject who's reconciling is

  481. It's God reconciling us to God. God is the author of

  482. reconciliation. So, stay with me here for a

  483. second. It can take just a couple

  484. minutes kind of show this to you.

  485. He's The Giver of the Gospel. We don't reconcile ourselves

  486. where we reconciled by God, and only God can do this in us.

  487. Then he's the gift of the Gospel.

  488. So what's the gift of the Gospel?

  489. That God offers offers offers in reconciliation, he offers

  490. himself. God reconciles us to himself,

  491. God gives himself in verse 21. His righteousness in the gospel

  492. and God gives us himself which is why we completely turn aside

  493. from the Contemporary teaching of persuasion in the church that

  494. says he'll come to Christ for Prosperity.

  495. Come to Christ for health, come to Christ for wealth come to

  496. Christ you know for the best life and come to Christ to get

  497. this or that. That's not why we come to

  498. Christ. We come to Christ to get God.

  499. And he's the one we want and he's the one we need.

  500. We take all the things of this world.

  501. We don't, we don't need all the things in this world.

  502. All we need is God. He is the one we need.

  503. He's the one were created to know and to enjoy and to worship

  504. and to glorify forever and ever. And we want and need this God,

  505. and he is the gift of the Gospel.

  506. In the end, he is the goal of the Gospel, the one who gives

  507. all this grace and he gets the glory.

  508. He gets all God glorifies himself in reconciling Sinners

  509. to can self. So how does he do this?

  510. Christ is the agent of reconciliation.

  511. It is only possible through Christ Verse 18.

  512. Says who through Christ reconciled us to himself and

  513. verse 19 in Christ. God was reconciling the world to

  514. himself verse 21 for our sake. He made him sin to be sin.

  515. He made him to be sin who knew no sin.

  516. That's Christ. So that in him Christ, we might

  517. become the righteousness of God. So, what does this mean?

  518. In our sin? We were separated from God.

  519. We went over that. And we were God's enemies and

  520. Jesus came as our substitute. And he suffered our separation

  521. meaning that he took our place as the enemies of God.

  522. This is why on the crucifixion cross, Jesus looked up into the

  523. skies and cried out, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me

  524. and mysterious picture of the sun becoming sin, and taking

  525. that payment sin upon himself? And we think about You know, we

  526. think about the sins that we've committed in our life.

  527. We think about Everything that we've done, that is just been

  528. despicable. We can't think of all of them of

  529. course but the ones that come to your mind You know, we think

  530. about that stuff. And we think about those that

  531. we've done wrong against. we think about the cinnamon, you

  532. know, if we display this, our sins upon this screen here, We

  533. would shudder to think that anybody, who know that we've

  534. done, some of the things that we've done, we would run out of

  535. here and embarrassment and shame.

  536. And then we realize those sins. Have been put on Jesus.

  537. There's payment for those. There's payment for those sins

  538. and he stepped in between you and that payment and took it.

  539. You suffered our separation and in doing so he secured our

  540. salvation. So that he takes our sin, this,

  541. this glorious exchange that we can read about.

  542. He takes our sin and we get his righteousness.

  543. So that right now when we stand before God, and he looks at you

  544. and I he doesn't see that sin. He sees the righteousness of his

  545. son. And that is the Glorious truth

  546. that we can read about. He secures our Salvation.

  547. We are the acceptors of reconciliation.

  548. What do we bring to the table? We simply bring the problem.

  549. God, does it all? We would need to be reconciled

  550. to God and having been reconciled to God.

  551. And when you are reconciler, if you have been reconciled, what

  552. happens is that we have a new entire identity.

  553. And that's the beauty backing up into verse 17.

  554. It says, therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation

  555. old things have passed away, behold?

  556. All things have become new. New Creation, new heart, a new

  557. spirit, new ones, new desires, New Life new identity.

  558. We're now reconciled to the one who's created us to have life

  559. and enjoy life now and forever. Transformed, he's transformed us

  560. inside and out. An entirely new identity.

  561. That's why Paul said in Galatians. 2:20 he says I have

    Galatians 2:20

  562. been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live but

  563. Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the fresh

  564. flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave

  565. himself for me. It all comes together.

  566. This is our identity, you are in Christ crisis in you.

  567. And that's what defines you. And I we are not ultimately a

  568. husband or a wife, a mom or a dad single or married widowed or

  569. divorced we're not defined. By how we look by what we wear,

  570. by, what you do, for a living, how much you make, where you

  571. live, who you cheer for, who you root for your identity is not

  572. found in your gender, your ethnicity or your socioeconomic

  573. status. You're not defined by your past

  574. as an addict, or an alcoholic or a victim of abuse in one way or

  575. another, you're not. What counselors would say that

  576. you are defined by your genetic makeup or your past history.

  577. You are not what your boss is. My till you were defined by or

  578. your present performance? It's on the job.

  579. You are not what your parents and teachers might tell you that

  580. you are based on your potential or in the future.

  581. No, you are in Christ. Christ is in you.

  582. He is your identity. He is who we need to model

  583. after. Don't let this world steal that

  584. away from you Christ is in you now and forever that is our

  585. identity forever. We have a new identity which

  586. leads to an entirely different perspective.

  587. Verse 16 of our passions. Therefore from now on WE regard

  588. no one according to the flesh even though we have known Christ

  589. according to the flesh yet, now we know him.

  590. Thus no longer. This is what Paul is trying to

  591. say. We don't we don't view the world

  592. from a worldly perspective anymore.

  593. Or it goes back to what we said earlier about, not boasting on

  594. outward appearance. But it's what's in our heart.

  595. It's who we are in our heart that matters to God and we have

  596. a different perspective on people around us as well.

  597. And when we look at people, you know, we don't see them in

  598. mainly terms of, you know, their status in Life or their

  599. ethnicity or this or that or whatever it may be.

  600. We look at people whether they're either in Christ or not

  601. in Christ. That's what we should be going.

  602. After is their salvation in the end.

  603. We love and care for those around us.

  604. We serve each other here in the church, we lay down our lives

  605. and sacrifice for each other. Here in this.

  606. Congregation for those in the church, that's what Paul is

  607. saying. Here, are you saying church here

  608. at Corinth be reconciled to God and then be reconciled to each

  609. other. And then are entirely different

  610. perspective on the world comes in.

  611. We look at our neighbors and our co-workers, and we have the

  612. courage to go to them and ask them if they're in Christ or

  613. not. We are now at that point

  614. privileged to work with God. Second Corinthians 6 and one.

  615. Right after all this, in chapter 5.

  616. Paul says we, then that's workers together with him.

  617. Which is God also plead with you not to receive the grace of God,

  618. in vain for. He says, in an acceptable time I

  619. have heard you and in the day of salvation, I have helped behold

  620. now is the accepted time behold. Now is the day of salvation.

  621. This is quite the phrase working together with God.

  622. How has God chosen to make this message of reconciliation?

  623. No. We think about it, you know, God

  624. could do anything he wanted to do right now, to let the whole

  625. world know about his Plan of Salvation.

  626. He could he could write it in this in the sky to us this

  627. morning, we could look up and we could see our name or he could

  628. put it in the Stars, his Plan of Salvation or he didn't think it

  629. and put it in our minds and we wouldn't need the scriptures

  630. anymore. God could do that but he has

  631. chosen not to why has he chosen to do it that way?

  632. Because he's just chosen to work with you and I working together

  633. with God. It's an awesome thing to see. to

  634. speak for God and teaching up here and I hope we're not

  635. gathered here every week just to hear one man or you know, Go

  636. through the motions and then rest of the week, we're not, you

  637. know, worshipping God in other ways, we've got the privilege to

  638. work with God every day of our life every hour that were awake

  639. to spread and work with God. It's a privilege.

  640. Paul is saying. Here.

  641. Also, in verse 3, which I love verse 3, He says, we put no

  642. obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault.

  643. May be found in our ministry. That's English Standard Version.

  644. Pulsing I've done everything. I can to keep from being an

  645. obstacle for some from somebody following the gospel.

  646. He's in all he can. And can we say that?

  647. Can we say the same thing? Can we say that somebody has not

  648. obeyed the gospel of Christ? Only?

  649. Because the rejecting Christ, not because we've got the way

  650. because we do a good job of messing.

  651. Things up all the time, we do a really good job with that.

  652. So let the gospel. Do its work.

  653. Work alongside with God? So we all met stand before the

  654. Judgment seat of Christ, one day, and being good faith with

  655. him. That's the lesson.

  656. We went through three points with the fear of God, Captivate,

  657. Us me the fear of God control us and the gospel of God

  658. reconciles. We thank you for listening to

  659. our podcast, put on by the Church of Christ at 22:15 plans.
