  1. Good morning, everyone. It is a beautiful day.

  2. We have here today, not only to worship God, but he's given us a

  3. beautiful day outside. This is when most beautiful days

  4. of the year I've seen. So we are blessed to have this

  5. day. And most importantly, though on

  6. this day to have our time together to worship God, I'm

  7. thankful to be able to be here with you today and especially as

  8. I get to choose what we study and Hebrews chapter 3 today.

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

  9. So we've been kind of slowly making our way through Hebrews.

  10. We're in the third chapter now and Today, I plan to cover the

  11. whole chapter. So if you'd like to turn to

  12. Hebrews chapter 3, that's where we'll be spending pretty much

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

  13. all of our time this morning and Hebrews chapter 3, kind of our

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

  14. Arc or keynote verse is the first one that says, therefore,

  15. holy Brethren partakers of the Heavenly calling consider the

  16. Apostle and high priest of our confession.

  17. That's a simple sentence and today, I hope that you can take

  18. that and you can consider him because I can talk up here, I

  19. can get a presentation together, but ultimately, Our God has

  20. asked each one of us to consider him ourselves and to consider

  21. him individually. Let's go ahead and read the rest

  22. of the chapter. Before we begin going on in

  23. verse 2, it says this. So This Christ Jesus who was

  24. faithful to him who appointed him as Moses.

  25. Also was faithful in all his house.

  26. For this one has been counted worthy of more Glory than Moses

  27. and as much as he He who built the house, has more honor than

  28. the house for every house is built by someone, but he who

  29. built all things is God and Moses.

  30. Indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant for a

  31. testimony of those things, which would be spoken afterward.

  32. But Christ has a son over his own house, whose house we are.

  33. If We Hold Fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the Hope

  34. firm to the end verse 7. Therefore as the holy spirit

  35. says, today if you will hear his voice, do not Harden your hearts

  36. as in the rebellion and the day of trial in the wilderness where

  37. your father's tested me, tried me and saw my Works 40 years.

  38. Therefore, I was angry with that generation and said they always

  39. go astray in their heart and they have not known my ways.

  40. So, I swore in my wrath they shall not enter my rest.

  41. Beware Brethren lest there, be any of be in any of you, an evil

  42. heart of unbelief unbelief in departing, from the Living God.

  43. But exhort one another daily while it's still called today.

  44. Lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin

  45. for? We have become partakers of

  46. Christ. If we hold the beginning of our

  47. confidence, steadfast to the end while it is said today, if you

  48. will hear his voice, do not Harden your hearts as in there.

  49. A billion in the last couple verses for who having heard

  50. rebuild and D, wasn't not all who came out of Egypt led by

  51. Moses. Now with whom was, he angry, 40

  52. years, was it not with those who sinned whose corpses fell in the

  53. wilderness and to whom did he swear that they would not enter

  54. his rest but to those who did not obey.

  55. So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

  56. So these are the verses we're going to consider today.

  57. And just reading this chapter and isolation, it looks a little

  58. bit negative. But warning a little bit

  59. dangerous, but I think the context that it's immersed in in

  60. Hebrews is really a well-rounded one.

  61. And so let's back up for a minute to consider what he had

  62. just said in Hebrews 2. So the first verse of Hebrews 3

  63. says, therefore, so it's very important that we see what we're

  64. leading into the therefore with from a Hebrews 2.

  65. So this is a very important. I don't want to go back too far

  66. but the previous verses lead right into it, so let's talk.

  67. Talk about Hebrews 2, verses beginning verse 10.

  68. So he said, therefore consider him and light of all these

  69. things. And light of the fact that in

  70. verse 10, it was fitting for Jesus for whom are all things

  71. and by whom are all things in bringing many sons to glory to

  72. make the captain of their salvation.

  73. Perfect through sufferings and light of that, consider him for

  74. both, he who sanctifies and those who are being Sanctified

  75. are all of One. We're one with Jesus consider

  76. him because of that for which reason he is not ashamed to call

  77. us Brethren saying here I am and the children whose got whom God

  78. has given me in as much as the children have partaken of Flesh

  79. and Blood. He himself likewise shared in

  80. the same that through death, he might destroy him.

  81. Who had the power of death, Jesus destroyed, the devil who

  82. had the power of death. He took away that power that he

  83. had over us. That is the devil and release.

  84. Those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject

  85. to bondage. The first verse in Hebrews 3 is

  86. going to say consider him because of all this because he

  87. freed you from the fear of death.

  88. For indeed. He does not give Aid to Angels

  89. but he does give Aid to the Seed of Abraham.

  90. We learned that to us through God's promises verse 17.

  91. Therefore in all things, he had to be my made like his Brethren,

  92. that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest.

  93. East and things pertaining to God to make propitiation for the

  94. sins of the people. For in that he himself, has

  95. suffered being tempted. He is also, he is able to Aid

  96. those who are tempted. So, the first verse in Hebrews

  97. 3, we can't just take it from there and say, okay, we're going

  98. to take it, starting there, we have to consider all these

  99. wonderful blessings that God has given us.

  100. We spent a lot of time the last time I spoke talking about

  101. these, these promises and this freedom From death, and how

  102. Jesus is our high priest. And what that means, as the one

  103. who intercedes for us and makes offering for sins.

  104. So, because of all of this awesome stuff, he said, in

  105. Chapter 2, consider him Consider Jesus.

  106. This word consider. I'll get to that in just a

  107. second. So first before he talks about

  108. what he's, what we're going to consider the first verse of

  109. Hebrews chapter 3, says, therefore holy Brethren.

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

  110. So it's important that we remember who he is addressing,

  111. he's addressing Hebrew Christians now.

  112. Just Hebrews and not just Christians their Hebrew

  113. Christians, so they are Brethren.

  114. So they're not just people who he's addressing with the gospel

  115. with the first time and this is all linked.

  116. Also linked back to chapter 2, when he calls him, holy

  117. brethren. Because he said that Jesus is

  118. not afraid to call you his brother.

  119. He's not afraid to call us his brothers and sisters, so he's

  120. kind of harkening back to that. And then the second point about

  121. this word, holy Brethren is that these Hebrew Christians need

  122. encouragement. They needed kind of a kick in

  123. the backside, you know, to show them what was right to show them

  124. the reality that they were coming into as as new followers

  125. of this New Covenant. They needed the encouragement

  126. and they weren't perfect, but they were still holy Brethren.

  127. He could have come into this letter and just beat them

  128. upside. The head with the fact that men,

  129. the Son of God just came and you guys are starting to slack in

  130. your faith. How are the world?

  131. Could you do that? But he does acknowledge that

  132. their Brethren their holy Brethren and they're in the

  133. middle of a fight and that is a theme that we can all relate to.

  134. We are all in the middle of this fight and even if we may have

  135. struggled, We Are Holy Brethren. So don't count yourself out if

  136. you feel like, man, I'm my faith is weak.

  137. He wrote this to them because their faith needed to be

  138. strengthened. He goes on to say, holy Brethren

  139. partakers of the Heavenly calling.

  140. So we talked about the other day, how there is this?

  141. Great need that man has in life. There's there's this great need

  142. to get back to the Garden scenario where man.

  143. Was living in peace with God and complete exposure before God.

  144. They were together. It was Paradise.

  145. And this Narrative of Bible is once man gets kicked out of that

  146. Garden, how do we get back to a place where we are one with God?

  147. And not and not perfect place where there's no pain and where

  148. there's no suffering? And so, this, this sentence kind

  149. of hits on that that God's taking care of the two great

  150. needs. We need, we need to number one,

  151. we need to hear from God. We need to hear from God through

  152. his word and through the Heavenly calling, that he gave

  153. to us, but that calling implies that he wants us to do

  154. something. He wants us to come to him, he's

  155. calling toward us, not just to us.

  156. He's calling us to come to him. So this great Narrative of what

  157. do we do? Now that we're outside of the

  158. garden separated from God, we need to hear him, we need to

  159. hear the calling, and we need to go to God.

  160. And because God has made this calling, we are partakers Yes,

  161. and because we Are Holy Brethren.

  162. Remember big to become holy Brethren, they're not just first

  163. time, here's of the Gospel. They were converted Christians

  164. who had been added to the church, okay?

  165. So then he goes in to say, consider this Apostle and high

  166. priest of our confession, this work consider means to fix your

  167. attention on something to learn its inner meaning.

  168. This is a word that was also used by Jesus when he said to

  169. consider the Ravens and Luke chapter 12 and it is an implies,

    Luke 12 chapter mention

  170. a context of something that may be so simple and obvious.

  171. But if we don't slow down to really think about it, we will

  172. miss it entirely. So, we need to consider it with

  173. contemplation and not necessarily to just find the

  174. answer and move on, but to let the process of considering

  175. habits work in our hearts. Now, an important note from this

  176. is that remember, let's say it again, they were already

  177. Christians, so it's implying that it's not automatic that.

  178. If we're Christians, we just automatically, think about

  179. meditate on Jesus. It's not automatic, he's having

  180. to tell them. You have to take thoughtful

  181. considerate. Time to consider this Jesus for

  182. us. It is not going to automatically

  183. happen. It's hard to carve up time where

  184. I had can slow down enough and make enough space in our day for

  185. Clear thoughtful. Time to consider Jesus.

  186. It's not automatic But I like this quote, I have I read on

  187. this verse. Someone said every meditation on

  188. his person, speaking of Jesus, and his salvation will suggest

  189. more wisdom new motives to love confidence and obedience.

  190. And I think that's very true. There's not everything that can

  191. be explained with a step-by-step.

  192. Here's what you need to do. Step, ABC, and D.

  193. Then you'll be at this point, sometimes we need to take time

  194. to consider him and that was Of the prescription for the growth

  195. of their faith for the Hebrews. Okay.

  196. So he says to consider this Apostle this word Apostle is, we

  197. might think well well I thought the 12 apostles were the ones

  198. following Jesus, why does he call Jesus?

  199. An apostle? Well, this word Apostle simply

  200. means sent one. I think a lot of times we hear

  201. the title of someone and we don't associate the real meaning

  202. with it, that the Bible had behind it, Apostle means sent

  203. one. So, Jesus is going to be God's

  204. one he sent to us. So Jesus had 12 Apostles that

  205. were coming from Jesus to the rest of the world to share Jesus

  206. truth with the world. And similarly, like Jesus had

  207. his 12 Apostles that were sent to the world God.

  208. And the beginning sent Jesus, the Apostle to us.

  209. So these sent one for our salvation for our learning for a

  210. teaching. Now and I it's easy to be

  211. confused between Apostles and disciples.

  212. Remember disciple is someone who just follows Jesus Apostle, is

  213. someone who specifically sent for a purpose.

  214. So these are both titles that people were specifically sent,

  215. very obviously speak. Speaking of Jesus here he was

  216. the chosen sent one from God. Okay?

  217. Then he's mentions him as the high priest.

  218. We talked about that in Hebrews chapter 2, What that means.

    Hebrews 2 chapter mention

  219. But in summary, the high priest represented, the people before

  220. God and offered sacrifices for sins.

  221. So, here in this verse, he's kind of setting up this.

  222. This picture Jesus is both the one who was sent down from God

  223. to man. And once he was, man, he also

  224. made a way to get from man back to God.

  225. He is everything in between, he is both the one that sent to

  226. teach. And the one who sacrificed

  227. himself and mediated for the people to go from man to God,

  228. Jesus Is God to man, and man to God fascinating.

  229. Well-rounded Concepts Our Savior embodied.

  230. Okay. So going into verse 2 and this

  231. verse the writer of Hebrews, we don't know who wrote it.

  232. Remember the writer of Hebrews starts to compare Jesus to the

  233. Old Testament greats. So this is going to be a theme

  234. throughout a big portion of the book of Hebrews.

  235. So they would have known and appreciated and honored, their

  236. Heroes of Heroes of Faith in the past.

  237. And so, he's already earlier in the book of Hebrews, he's

  238. already compared Jesus to Angels.

  239. Remember Angels, were these great, massive Mighty Powerful

  240. Beast, that they were terrified of and, and God.

  241. And the writer of Hebrews says, Jesus is a way above that.

  242. And so now he's going to take the The Heroes of Faith in the

  243. Old Testament and say Jesus as way above that.

  244. So here, we'll start with Moses verse to consider a Christ

  245. Jesus. Who is faithful to him.

  246. Who appointed him as Moses also was faithful and all his house,

  247. I read a someone was some sources were saying that the the

  248. Jews, consider Moses, maybe to be the greatest man who ever

  249. lived and that they even thought he was better than an angel.

  250. So I don't know how much ground That holds in the Jews as a

  251. whole or what? But they highly, highly regarded

  252. Moses. And so the writer of Hebrews is

  253. meeting them where they're at. Okay?

  254. You understand an angel, you understand Moses.

  255. Now Jesus is so far above that and I like how he keys on this

  256. idea of faithfulness. A huge part of Moses's credit

  257. for being Godly, was he was faithful through a lot of junk

  258. leading, a million people who are ready to turn on you for

  259. $40. Years and all the things he went

  260. through in the Old Testament. It was his faithfulness that

  261. stood out. That's one of the lessons will

  262. learn. From today is the faithfulness

  263. that Jesus and Moses both shared and it says that he was faithful

  264. and all of God's house. So, verse 3, for this one,

  265. Speaking of Jesus has been counted worthy of more Glory

  266. than Moses as teachers. One of the things weren't Acted

  267. to do. One of the key ideas were

  268. supposed to use in a classroom is to take your students from

  269. where they're at and then move them forward.

  270. If you just try to teach everybody the same way or teach

  271. everybody, the same thing, you're going to lose most of the

  272. people. And so I like what the writer of

  273. Hebrews does here, he understands his audience and

  274. this is kind of a side point for our own use of spreading the

  275. gospel and teaching others. About the truth is to remember

  276. to People wear their act, the writer of Hebrews used as Moses

  277. and uses Angels, because in education they call it accessing

  278. prior knowledge. If you can use a starting point

  279. for someone, what they do understand, they have a

  280. reference point from where to go next.

  281. And this writer of Hebrews understood his audience and he

  282. was ready to meet them where they are at, okay, that was kind

  283. of a side point. So Jesus is counted worthy of

  284. more Glory than Moses. We understand what the word

  285. Glory means. I think it's kind of hard to

  286. nail down the definition but Chris Taylor look a lot of

  287. Dodger fans he got that game-winning Home Run for the

  288. Dodgers the other night he got a lot of Glory for that.

  289. Okay. So the the glory and athlete or

  290. someone great gets from doing something awesome.

  291. We understand that. So this is in a spiritual sense

  292. and in an eternal sense, Jesus is countered of more Glory than

  293. even Moses. Inasmuch, as he who built the

  294. house, has more honor than the house.

  295. Okay. So he's saying that Moses was

  296. part of the house that God was building, but Jesus was the one

  297. building the house. Okay.

  298. So and he's comparing their honor because he's saying the

  299. one who build something has more honor than the house itself.

  300. And we understand that. So, Michelangelo and assisting,

  301. Chapel. He's the one who gets credit for

  302. all of the beautiful work he did there.

  303. So obviously we don't go, man, Sistine Chapel.

  304. You're so awesome on your own Merit.

  305. You're so great for what you are, we say, wow.

  306. He did an incredible piece of work.

  307. And if you is there, everyone, we going over shaking his hand

  308. and saying how awesome, he did the Eiffel Tower.

  309. The man who designed it? Alexandria, Eiffel.

  310. It is. Tied to his name and he's the

  311. one who gets credit for that. The tower itself is inanimate.

  312. It is just what it is. It's the The building, the

  313. person who gets the glory and the honor for something, is the

  314. one who built it. We understand that, and he's

  315. saying that Jesus has. He's on a different level

  316. because Moses is just the house. He's just part of the building.

  317. Frank talked about that a lot and his lesson about how, and

  318. First Peter chapter 2, that we are being built up as a holy

    1 Peter 2 chapter mention

  319. house, Well, we're just part of the house.

  320. Jesus is the Builder. Our God is the Builder of this

  321. house verse 4 for every house is built by someone.

  322. But he built all things is God my somehow my roof got a little

  323. off-kilter there but the house is much better built than that.

  324. Verse 44 every houses. So the point I was going to pull

  325. out here is that he's drawing this.

  326. This idea that that one has been counted worthy of more Glory

  327. than Moses as he who built the house as more Glory than the

  328. house. And he's saying that every house

  329. is built by someone who built all things is God.

  330. So he's making the points drawing the conclusion, that

  331. Jesus is deity, he's not God the father but his deity.

  332. He is one of the Builders of our holy Virtual house.

  333. Okay, he's continuing to lift Jesus up in their eyes so that

  334. they Revere, Jesus and don't slip back to the Old Law.

  335. Continuing on in verse 5 and Moses, indeed was faithful and

  336. all his house as a servant for a testimony of those things, which

  337. would be spoken afterward. But Christ as a son over his own

  338. house. So again, he could have said, a

  339. lot of things about Moses. And when we read the Old

  340. Testament, Talk about that in a minute.

  341. There's a lot of things he could have said maybe to Moses credit

  342. to his detriment, but he talks about him in a positive light.

  343. Here he is not at all. Trying to defame Moses or to

  344. bring Moses down. That's because his point is not

  345. to, to tuber Aid, the humanity of Moses, he's trying to lift

  346. Jesus up. So he points out the, hey, he

  347. was faithful as a servant. He did a great job as a servant

  348. and it was a testimony of those things, which would be spoken.

  349. Afterward, but it's not even the same thing, it's apples, and

  350. oranges Jesus. It was, but Jesus was a son over

  351. the house. He wasn't a servant in God's

  352. house Jesus as a son of the house of God.

  353. So, there are apples, and oranges.

  354. They're not even close. Jesus is so far above Moses, and

  355. it says he was a test. He was a servant as a testimony

  356. of those things, which would be spoken afterward.

  357. I believe that Moses is a great example of the fact That you can

  358. be a servant in God's house and receive Glory and Honor from God

  359. and praise and appreciation from God, the in the church age,

  360. that's especially emphasized, that the things that would be

  361. spoken of afterward, the new, the new law, and the New

  362. Covenant, how much you would emphasize service in the Lord's

  363. House. Moses was an example of that,

  364. and he served as a testimony, that that's always been a value

  365. in God. His kingdom.

  366. It's always been powerful in God's kingdom, to serve his

  367. people. And that was a testimony even in

  368. the Old Law, okay? So in verse verse 6, he goes on

  369. to say whose house we are. If We Hold Fast the confidence

  370. and the rejoicing of the Hope firm to the end, that is an

  371. awesome thought. He already said in the last

  372. chapter, that he's not ashamed to call us Brethren how awesome

  373. that is that we are God. Sistine Chapel, so to speak,

  374. that we are his house. We are his special building of

  375. all the beautiful works that were out there, God's special

  376. work and his Is great. Joy in his work stems from us.

  377. Not just from his own beautiful creation that he made.

  378. He cares about the people who can turn and praise him.

  379. We are that house and that is a special awesome thought for us,

  380. to consider our own importance in the grand scheme of the

  381. world. But there's a condition.

  382. We are his house, if we hold fast the confidence and the

  383. rejoicing of the Hope firm to the end.

  384. It's interesting. The Bible says, a lot of

  385. different things that you'll be saved.

  386. If you do this or or you you you're one of God's children if

  387. you do this. And this is an interesting

  388. point, you makes here that we are in his house if we hold fast

  389. the confidence and the rejoicing of the Hope Philippians 4:4

    Philippians 4:4

  390. says, Rejoice in the lord always.

  391. And again I say rejoice that is a command to us.

  392. We are commanded to be confident and hold on to the rejoicing of

  393. our hope. That's not optional, That's

  394. essential for our life. That is our oxygen.

  395. We must rejoice in the Lord, that is a sign of a healthy

  396. Christian and we can rejoice as part of this house.

  397. No, this was just a member of the House.

  398. David was a member of the House. You and I are part of this house

  399. that God is building up a royal priesthood.

  400. We must rejoice and you might say, well, can I really control

  401. what? I hope it can it.

  402. Can I really control what I'm excited for because I hope

  403. things that seem like I don't really control it.

  404. It just kind of happens when I'm hoping for isn't always.

  405. I can't tell my mind with hope for is that true?

  406. I believe it is definitely true that we have control and what we

  407. hope and I believe it's cyclical.

  408. This maybe this is a little rough but when you think about

  409. something a lot when you consider it a lot, like we've

  410. been commanded to when we consider and think about our

  411. savior and we live the way he wants us to live.

  412. We see it's fruits. We see what it brings in our

  413. life. We see the good that happens and

  414. the terrible things we can avoid and we rejoice in that.

  415. And that's been, we've been commanded.

  416. Maybe we're missing part of this puzzle and maybe if you feel

  417. like you're not in control of what you're hoping in, maybe

  418. you're missing one of these pieces.

  419. Are you thinking about God's word?

  420. And everything I'm talking about today was a direct kick at me

  421. and and it was a challenge for me so I'm not talking at you at

  422. this. This was a huge challenge for me

  423. to step it up. Some are you living it?

  424. Are you seeing it's fruits? Are you taking time to look and

  425. see what God is doing? And if you see that, are you

  426. rejoicing in that? Are you missing any of the

  427. pieces of this cycle that we can hope and God, and we can create

  428. a cycle where our minds will continue to hope and build faith

  429. and trust in him through a cycle of changing, what we have

  430. hoping, and we can do that. Okay.

  431. Now verse I mentioned from 1st, Peter chapter 2, it said you

  432. also as living stones are being built up a spiritual house, a

  433. holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable

  434. to God through Christ Jesus. Okay.

  435. Going on verse 7. It says, therefore as the holy

  436. spirit says, today if you will hear his voice, do not Harden

  437. your hearts as in the rebellion and the trial of the Wilderness

  438. where your father's tested me, tried me and saw my Works 40

  439. years. Therefore, I was angry with that

  440. generation and said they always go astray in their heart and

  441. they have not known my ways. So, I swore, in my wrath, they

  442. shall not enter my rest. This is where it starts to get a

  443. little harsh. But the rebellion in the trial

  444. are Around the Wilderness wanderings in the Book of

  445. Numbers where Israel complained against God.

  446. So in Numbers Chapter 13, there were spice and into the land,

    Numbers 13 chapter mention

  447. god commanded them to go into the land and take it and so they

  448. sent spies. And it says in the promised land

  449. that when they came to the valley of eskil and they're cut

  450. down a branch with one cluster of grapes.

  451. They carried it between two of them on a pole.

  452. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs the Place

  453. was called the valley of eskil because of the cluster, which

  454. the men of Israel cut down there.

  455. So in the wilderness, when they were told to go in into the

  456. promised land, they went in and took these clusters of grapes.

  457. That's what that's what the word eskil means.

  458. It means cluster. They had to carry it, between

  459. two of them on a pole. I can't imagine seeing a cluster

  460. of grapes that big even though we're in California, What

  461. happened? Next verse 27, then they told

  462. him and said we went to the land where you sent us, it truly

  463. flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

  464. And nevertheless, the people who dwell in the land are strong,

  465. the cities are fortified in very large.

  466. Moreover, we saw than the descendants of anak there.

  467. The amalekites dwell in the land of the South, the Hittites, the

  468. jebusites, and the amorites, the wall in the mountains, and the

  469. Canaanites dwell by the Sea and along the banks of the Jordan.

  470. So they came in and they said, man.

  471. This place has everything. You talked it up to me, it is

  472. unreal, it is awesome, but there's Giants, we're afraid of

  473. them. But here's all the, here's all

  474. the reasons that were scared and we can't maybe trust God to go

  475. in. There's too many too many

  476. dangers, too many risks. Going on in verse 30.

  477. It says then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said,

  478. let us go up at once and take possession.

  479. There's a couple guys who like, no we got this, let's go.

  480. But then the men who had gone up with him said, we're not able to

  481. go up against the people for they're stronger than we.

  482. And they gave the children of Israel, a bad report of the

  483. land, which they had spied out saying the land through which we

  484. have gone has, as spies in Al and devours inhabitants, and all

  485. the people, whom we saw in, it are men of great stature.

  486. Thatcher there, huge the big dudes.

  487. There we saw, the Giants, the descendants of anak came from

  488. the Giants and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight

  489. and so we were in their sight. They said we walked in and we

  490. thought we were grasshoppers compared to them and they

  491. thought we were grasshoppers compared to them.

  492. We were all in agreement. We were small.

  493. We did not look good. It does not look good for us to

  494. go up against them. So there's these positive and

  495. negative. Some people who want to go in

  496. some people are are not faithful.

  497. And this is where all the wandering started, this is where

  498. God saying, you frustrated me to no end.

  499. You were never faithful, you always went away from me and it

  500. started with this one lack of faith.

  501. One of the lessons we can learn from this is that there will

  502. always be at least two ways to look at every situation now,

  503. will be the positive hopeful and full of faith in God's ability

  504. to act. There will be that position in

  505. every situation weren't There's also going to be the perceived

  506. risks worries and the if this then that we can come up with in

  507. our minds. We can apply this to a lot of

  508. different things. But whatever situation we get

  509. into in our individual lives in our church.

  510. There's always going to be both of these.

  511. They weren't wrong. That the Giants were huge and on

  512. their own. They could have been defeated

  513. very quickly and easily, they're huge, they would have gotten

  514. wiped out on their own. But the difference is God,

  515. wanted them to see him as greater than every concern and

  516. worthy of their faith, okay? So there may be things that are

  517. true. It may be true.

  518. That hey, this looks bad, this looks difficult, this looks

  519. hard, there's a lot of risks here.

  520. But there's always going to be risks God's people succeed when

  521. they, when they take the positive hope and fullness of

  522. faith and they're aware of the perceived risks.

  523. And they overcome that by an awareness of God's power and his

  524. ability to act. So, may we always look at God

  525. and let him develop a faith within us that responds.

  526. Okay, another side point. He talks about Moses

  527. faithfulness, Moses at age, 40, He mustered up the strength to

  528. choose God's people. So he decided to leave Egypt and

  529. say, you know, I'm going to support my people.

  530. He went out and defended one of his own people, the Israelites

  531. and it did not go well that was at 40 years old.

  532. He finally at 40 years old after a long time, almost twice my

  533. lifetime. He was finally like all right I

  534. got to do something. He got out and did something and

  535. it didn't go well and he was out in the wilderness, he went off

  536. on his own. At age, 80 was when the burning

  537. bush situation happened, where God called him back and said

  538. you're going to go now. And even when he was finally

  539. called to do that, man, Moses didn't look good.

  540. That's not the point of Hebrews chapter 3, but Moses did not

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

  541. look good. He was like, well, I can't

  542. because of this, I can't because of this that and there's this

  543. risk and that risk So Hebrews 3 is talking about the good things

  544. in Moses, but as a side point for us, look how long it took

  545. for Moses to get started, he was 80 before he really got started.

  546. But he started and that's a point that we need to remember.

  547. We are a lot of people in here and different points in life, no

  548. matter where you're at. You can get started today.

  549. We can get started wherever we're at and Moses is a great

  550. example of that because the testimony after that he was

  551. faithful and that's what he is remembered for even by the

  552. scriptures. Okay?

  553. Quickly go on verse 12, beware Brethren, lest there, be in any

  554. of you. An evil heart of unbelief in

  555. departing from the Living God, but exhort one another daily

  556. while it's called today. I like that we don't have

  557. tomorrow. We don't have the past but we do

  558. have today. Take what you got?

  559. Today, encourage and exhort one another, while it's still called

  560. today, the beauty of that is everyday is called today.

  561. When you get to tomorrow, it'll be called today then and we have

  562. a chance every day to make it what it can be to exhort one

  563. another. He says lest any of you be

  564. hardened through the deceitfulness of sin for we have

  565. become partakers of Christ. If we hold the beginning of our

  566. confidence steadfast to the end while it is said today, if you

  567. will hear his voice, do not Harden your hearts as in the

  568. Rebellion he's saying Of the same thing, he's emphasizing.

  569. Don't let your hearts get hard and kind of antidote.

  570. He said, for being hardened through the deceitfulness of

  571. sin. It was what he just said, he

  572. said exhort one another daily. And I'm so thankful.

  573. God gave us a body, he gave us a church to be exhorted daily so

  574. that we don't get hardened because the reality is sin will

  575. deceive us to where we don't even see ourselves anymore to

  576. her. We don't don't even see

  577. ourselves changing. We have to talk to somebody else

  578. and somebody else can see the change in us and say, hey, come

  579. on, let's go get, get back on the right track or hey, you're

  580. doing a good job. Keep.

  581. Keep the faith you're doing. You're doing good work.

  582. God is brilliant, and in the design and his body for support

  583. for one. Another may we take advantage of

  584. that, may we exhort one another daily.

  585. That's something I need to be better about.

  586. I think the quarantine kind of kept us all a little bit

  587. separated, but we have ways. Maybe we exhort one another

  588. daily So we're coming really close to the end.

  589. I saw this, this little it is kind of a It is a it's a story

  590. basically from a demon's point of view on the Persistence of

  591. faith and in this someone wrote this it's a fictional

  592. perspective from a demon. Tempting, a person tip

  593. attempting a Christian and so it's a demon either thinking to

  594. himself. We're talking to another demon,

  595. listen to this. It says the enemy has guarded

  596. him from you, so the Enemy being God has guarded him from you

  597. through the first Great Wave of Temptations.

  598. But if only he can be kept alive, you have time itself for

  599. your ally, the long dull, monotonous years of middle-aged

  600. Prosperity or middle-aged diversity are excellent

  601. campaigning whether you see it's so hard for these creatures to

  602. persevere. The routine of adversity, the

  603. gradual decay of youthful, loves and Youthful hopes, the quiet

  604. despair hardly felt his pain of ever overcoming The Chronic

  605. Temptations with which we Again and again defeated them the

  606. drabness which we create in their lives and inarticulate

  607. resentment with which we teach them to respond to it all.

  608. This provides admirable opportunities of wearing out a

  609. soul by attrition, attrition means you just break them down.

  610. Just solo, take away their food and water and a war of attrition

  611. you just cut off their resources.

  612. I'm wearing out a soul by attrition.

  613. If on the other hand, the middle years for from prosperous.

  614. Our position is even stronger. Prosperity.

  615. And it's a man to the world. He feels that he's finding his

  616. place in the, he's finding his place in it while really, it's

  617. finding its place in him. That is why we must often wish

  618. long life to our patients. 70 years is not a day, too much for

  619. the difficult task of, unraveling their souls from

  620. heaven and building up a firm attachment to the Earth.

  621. And sometimes, it's interesting to think about stuff like that.

  622. The demons perspective, maybe on a someone came up with this, but

  623. it's true, isn't it? Some of those words, the

  624. inarticulate resentment that we can build that Satan wants us to

  625. develop in our hearts. That's what the devil wants.

  626. That's what his helpers want the challenge for the Christian is

  627. to remain faithful and full of exhortation and encouragement

  628. for one another as we fight against him, faithfulness is a

  629. heroic act and Hebrews chapter 2 verse 11.

    Hebrews 2:11

  630. I think it's 11 verse 2, Maybe by faith, Jacob, when he was

  631. dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and worshipped leaning

  632. on the top of his staff. This study Made me think and

  633. really appreciate all the people in this audience who have

  634. continued to hold the face strong.

  635. That last thing we read about the difficulties of Life over

  636. time, wearing down, someone's faith and discouraging people,

  637. and trying to undermine The spiritual strength of God wants

  638. us to have. I have a renewed appreciation

  639. for the older folks and the Middle Ages as the, you know,

  640. the the demon was saying, we're continuing to fight and hold on

  641. to the faith. I appreciate you very much.

  642. Because faithfulness is a heroic act and I that picture of Joseph

  643. in the Old Testament worshipping leaning on the top of his staff

  644. is one of the coolest pictures of faithfulness in the Bible

  645. that I can read. There is value in faith.

  646. In faiths longevity because we are told to be steadfast to the

  647. end in our faithfulness, in our rejoicing, in Hope.

  648. And this passage shows. It's exemplified in both Moses,

  649. and Jesus, Jesus being so much better for so many reasons.

  650. Okay, finishing up verse 16 for who having heard rebelled and D,

  651. wasn't not all who came out of Egypt led by Moses.

  652. Now with whom was he angry, 40 years was it?

  653. Not those who sinned whose corpses fell in the wilderness?

  654. And to whom, did he swear that they would not enter his rest

  655. but to those who did not obey. So we see that they could not

  656. enter in because of unbelief. So all the words, highlighted In

  657. this, passage are kind of connected.

  658. They have a common root. It says in Hebrews 3 of

  659. unbelief, these people did not have a belief inside that it was

  660. strong enough. Now people say see you just need

  661. to believe you don't have to obey and see this is the whole

  662. point is believing well, the point is they're all connected.

  663. You can't really have one without the other.

  664. He says they didn't obey and it was connected to their own

  665. belief, they sinned and it was connected to their unbelief.

  666. And it's interesting that they came out of Egypt, Egypt is a

  667. picture of leaving sin. They came out of Egypt but they

  668. still fell into unbelief. That's kind of a sobering

  669. thought for us. We can still fall into unbelief

  670. and we can be hardened. Now this is this is a lot of -

  671. chapter 3 ends right here. Chapter 4 is going to go on to

  672. talk about the rest that's coming.

  673. So it's I wish we could just keep going to get really get the

  674. whole picture, but this is where we're going to stop today and

  675. Hebrews chapter 3. Ending with kind of a warning.

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

  676. But it's also a reminder that we should consider how great Jesus

  677. is and that we don't want any part of that the unbelief in the

  678. consequences from it. So today we learned that Jesus

  679. was faithful and I asked you. And I ask myself to consider our

  680. own faithfulness, to him. Faithfulness is a heroic act

  681. that takes a lot of time. Ask you along with me to

  682. consider our own willingness to take a risk and grow.

  683. Because in that passage where their faithfulness was a

  684. problem, it had a lot to do with they weren't willing to take a

  685. risk and grow. So it's not just staying where

  686. they were staying faithful isn't just putting your feet in the

  687. ground and sit in their faithfulness implies willing to

  688. take risk and grow like Caleb. Did he was like, no, we can go

  689. in this land. We can get this.

  690. We got this. I ask you to consider both areas

  691. of these in your life. Maybe one of these is easier for

  692. you than the other. But a full round of faith will

  693. be faithful and willing to grow at the same time and ready to

  694. take on challenges. Jesus was similar to Moses in

  695. several ways but he was on a whole nother level.

  696. So these questions are you taking time out of your day to

  697. consider him to consider Jesus? Are you rejoicing in your hope?

  698. This is a strong command that he indicates will affect our own.

  699. Participation in the household of God if we're rejoicing him

  700. steadfast to the end and are you encouraging others?

  701. Daily. Please think about these things

  702. with me. This is our lesson today.

  703. I hope you can take it and and we can grow together as we seek

  704. to serve him from the things. We've learned in Hebrews chapter
