  1. Welcome everyone. This morning we're glad that

  2. you're here as has been already mentioned.

  3. Good to see some that have been away and have been sick.

  4. Able to be back with us. We're just glad that that with

  5. all the things we're going through these days that we've

  6. all done as well as we have, and we're thankful for that and

  7. answered prayers. Want to talk this morning about

  8. denominationalism whether it is of god or whether it's of man.

  9. and one of the reasons is, of course we've got some newer

  10. members here and we instruct not only them, but we instruct the

  11. body here because we've seen even within the body of Christ,

  12. those that have decided to change the way that they think

  13. God has revealed his will, to to us all denominationalism is

  14. defined as the tendency to Rate into religious denominations or

  15. large groups of congregations United under a common faith and

  16. name organized, under a single administrative and legal,

  17. hierarchy, a synonym for division, it consists of several

  18. hundred this coordinate, religious sects.

  19. Having no unity in name organization Doctrine, or

  20. practice. Might go on to quote from the

  21. dictionary of American history. Crucial to the notion of

  22. denominationalism here was the idea that several churches

  23. despite disunity were part of the true church.

  24. The churches in the United States would not attempt to set

  25. themselves up as the only church with legitimacy as the Church of

  26. England had. Instead, they agreed to

  27. recognize each other as sharing a common Mission.

  28. Even if holding two different Creed's, or forms of worship.

  29. The historian are Lawrence more exemplified, this change changed

  30. Outlook and argued as did 19th century observers of American

  31. religion that Division and the creation of new religions not

  32. interdenominational cooperation is the religious mainstream in

  33. the United States precisely because of the nation's

  34. tradition of religious freedom, and faiths capacity to give

  35. identity to people living in society without clear.

  36. R structure and delimit delineated, social roles as more

  37. rights. The American religious system,

  38. may be said to be working only when it is creating cracks

  39. within denominations, when it is producing novelty, when it is

  40. fueling antagonisms. In other words, one church is as

  41. good as another and division is the goal of denominations.

  42. The term denomination simply means a dividing or separating

  43. into different sects. If you sit want to say

  44. denominationalism is found founded on division, when we

  45. read the Bible, we find that the scriptures do not endorse the

  46. religious diversity of division. That is found among the

  47. denomination's, even in the Old Testament.

  48. David said in Psalm 133 in verse 1 behold, how good and how

  49. pleasant it is for Brethren to dwell together in unity. and if

  50. Unity is good and pleasant than division must be evil and

  51. unpleasant On the night Jesus was betrayed, he specifically

  52. prayed not that his followers would Embrace some kind of

  53. tolerance for religious diversity but instead to a call

  54. to Unity, Jesus prayed to his father, in John 17 and 20 and

  55. 21. I do not pray for these alone

  56. but also for those who will believe in me through their

  57. word, That they must all be. Be one as you father are in me

  58. and I in you that they also may be one in us that the world may

  59. believe that you sent me. The Apostle call Paul called for

  60. Unity in Romans 12 and verse 16 be of the same mind toward one

  61. another. Again, Paul writing to the

  62. church in Philippi, Philippians 2 and verse coup and fulfill my

  63. Joy by being like-minded. Having the same love being of

  64. one Accord, Board and of one mind also in Philippians 3 and

  65. verse 16, nevertheless to the degree that we have already

  66. attained. Let us walk by the same rule.

  67. Let us be of the same mind. And we respect God's word as the

  68. ultimate Authority. Agreement on the basis of its

  69. teaching and Doctrine is easy when we all read the same word

  70. and it says the same thing. And we agree on those basic

  71. things Doctrine is easy. But it will never be possible to

  72. unite the doctrines and Commandments of men, because

  73. men's ideas keep changing and our imperfect.

  74. We see that so much in the world today, remember, what it was

  75. like, almost two years ago when they When they started talking

  76. about the coronavirus, how many times have the rules changed?

  77. The rules have changed many times because man is imperfect,

  78. he doesn't know everything. God is all-knowing.

  79. God is supreme. And what he, the laws that he

  80. has given to mankind. So we cannot rely on man's ideas

  81. or his philosophies because they are imperfect, Creed's

  82. confessions of Faith Church. Manuals are a continual problem

  83. to the unity of the religious community.

  84. Jesus intentionally made Unity among his followers or priority.

  85. The only way that a person can really come to believe and Obey

  86. Jesus is to hear the truth of the gospel of Christ.

  87. Not man. Ideas.

  88. Notice. John 17, verse 17, sanctify them

    John 17:17

  89. by your truth. Your word is truth.

  90. The word of God is the truth. When a man's ideas, contradict

  91. the truth, then the man's ideas are wrong.

  92. Notice also Romans 10 verse 17. So then faith comes by hearing

    Romans 10:17

  93. and hearing by the word of God. So, the greatest barrier to

  94. Unity is the disunity of denominationalism I'm that

  95. prevails in the religious world today.

  96. Denominations freely admit that their organizations are human in

  97. origin and offer, nothing that is essential to Salvation.

  98. They however, insist on maintaining those, they would

  99. tell you to select the Church of your choice.

  100. How many times have you heard that statement?

  101. Not? What is the church that you can

  102. read about in the scriptures in the Bible that God and Jesus

  103. taught about that? Is that is true in the

  104. scriptural? On that we use today.

  105. Such Innovations as false doctrine that are that are

  106. taught, is that baptism is not essential for salvation.

  107. That instrumental music and the worship service is makes us all

  108. feel better. That the Lord's Supper candy be

  109. divided up into multiple cups and multiple loaves that takes

  110. away. That immunity that speaking in

  111. tongues is, is the way that we should worship today.

  112. That Fellowship that all the religious community today, well,

  113. I whatever it may be and wherever it is, is in fellowship

  114. with each other that in Today is more important than worship.

  115. So division and denominationalism is the result

  116. of false teaching. Notice, second, Peter 2 and

  117. verses, 1 through 3, but there were also false prophets among

  118. the people even as there will be false teachers among you who

  119. will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even

  120. denying the Lord who bought them and bringing on themselves Swift

  121. destruction. And many will follow their

  122. destructive ways because of Whom the way of truth will be

  123. blasphemed live covetousness. They will exploit you with

  124. deceptive words for a long time. Their judgment has not been idle

  125. and their destruction does not slumber.

  126. If denominationalism is a designation as a designated

  127. division. As and results from Paul's

  128. teaching. Then unscriptural then it is

  129. unscriptural and not of God, denominationalism is sin.

  130. And First Corinthians 12 verses 10 through 13.

    1 Corinthians 12:10–13

  131. Now I plead with you Brethren by the name of our Lord, Jesus

  132. Christ that you all speak the same thing and that there be no

  133. divisions among you. But that you all be that you be

  134. perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same

  135. judgment for it has been declared to me concerning you my

  136. brethren. By those of Chloe's household

  137. that there are contentions among you Now I say this, that each of

  138. you says, I am appalled or I am of Apollo's or I am of cephas,

  139. or I am of Christ is Christ. Divided was Paul crucified for

  140. you or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

  141. Paul says here in verse 10, he says, I plead with you brethren.

  142. I plead with you that you all speak the same thing and that

  143. there be no divisions among you, but that you are perfectly be.

  144. Perfectly joined together in the sign.

  145. Same mind and in the same judgment.

  146. That is Unity, that is not diversity.

  147. That is not a dividing that we all speak the same thing.

  148. There's no division Among Us. In this section of the scripture

  149. carefully, note, the God said that there be no division among

  150. you, the times, the normal, a tional world will tell you, try

  151. to tell you and justify Itself by saying, well, we all breathe

  152. on the essentials that there is a God that we ought to obey him.

  153. That Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died for our

  154. sins. And so, a lot of times, that's

  155. where it ends, that's where the agreeing.

  156. Ends that we shouldn't go out and kill.

  157. We shouldn't cheat. We shouldn't lie and all those

  158. kinds of things. First of all, God never gave us

  159. a small list that we can agree on and in a large grit large

  160. list of non-essentials on which we can be divided.

  161. God didn't plan it that way. Paul goes on to say now I say

  162. this that each of you says, I am appalled, I am of a paulus or I

  163. am of cephas. Or I am of Christ.

  164. Is Christ. Divided.

  165. If God, condemned the dividing because of within the apostles

  166. and and some were saying, well, I'm a follower of Paul or I'm a

  167. follower of cephas if God condemned that wouldn't, he also

  168. wouldn't be even more can dim putting men's names on religious

  169. organizations today, falling men that are not inspired.

  170. Continuing on Paul was crucified for, you was Paul crucified for

  171. you. Excuse me?

  172. Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

  173. The only person that the believer can follow and adopt

  174. their name as a religious designation, is the one who died

  175. for us. And in whose name, we have been

  176. baptized and that is Jesus Christ.

  177. Why do people today, then call themselves by other names?

  178. Even men's names. One thing that is clear in these

  179. verses is that if a man is bat is a baptized believer, then I

  180. should only wear The name Christian x 11 verse 26, and the

  181. disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

  182. So if we try to put any other name on this building out here

  183. that we're we meet and and we call it by a man's name or we

  184. call it by any other name than a Biblical name, the Church of

  185. Christ and we as brothers and sisters are Christians, it's

  186. wrong. We can't put names on.

  187. God's organization men's names on God's organization.

  188. We can't do that. Well, let's notice a little bit

  189. about the church in Prophecy, and even in the Old Testament,

  190. we would get a look at the church.

  191. The, the Oneness of the body is stressed Ezekiel wrote.

  192. Of the time when the Lord's people would be one nation,

  193. Ezekiel 37, 22. And under one Shepherd, 34:23

  194. Daniel predicted, the arrival of the Lord's Kingdom.

  195. Daniel 2, and verse 44. Also, when Jesus was on the

  196. earth, he spoke of a time when his people would be one.

  197. Flock in John, 10 and verse 16. Paul, when he wrote to the

  198. Christians at Ephesus declared that there is one body if he's

  199. in is 4 and verse 4, that we're going to notice a little bit

  200. more about in just a moment. And other passages note that

  201. this one body is the church Ephesians 1 verse, 22 and 23 and

  202. Colossians 1 verses 18 through 24.

    Colossians 1:18–24

  203. If denominationalism is division, then the lack of

  204. division is unity. Ephesians 4 and verses 1 through

  205. 6 I therefore the prisoner of the Lord beseech you to walk

  206. worthy of the calling with which you were called with all

  207. lowliness and gentleness with long-suffering forbearing one.

  208. Another in love endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in

  209. the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit

  210. just as you are called in one, hope of your calling one Lord,

  211. One Faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is above

  212. all and through all and in you all Some have argued that this

  213. is the only list of of doctrinal issues that we can.

  214. We, if we just agree on these things, then we're all unified,

  215. if we can just agree on that but note that the domination will

  216. doesn't even agree on these seven principles this Oneness.

  217. If you want to say these want seven ones that are mentioned

  218. here, one body one Spirit one, hope one Lord, One Faith, one

  219. baptism. And one God, even the

  220. denominational world doesn't believe that when you talk about

  221. is a member of your denomination.

  222. Excuse me, I got ahead of myself.

  223. Many denominations don't agree on the the talk of one baptism

  224. here, they don't believe that. Baptism is says essential for

  225. salvation. As taught in Acts 2 and 38.

  226. And first Peter 3 and 21. The one body is the church,

  227. which is the body that Jesus will save.

  228. If he's ins 5 and 23 and the body that Jesus purchased with

  229. his blood Acts, 20 and verse 28, but if you were to go and asked

  230. someone in a domination denomination, a question, Is

  231. membership in your denomination necessary for salvation.

  232. Most denominational leaders and members would say no.

  233. They would say you can choose the Church of your choice.

  234. And you'll be saved. So an answer like that admits

  235. the denominational bodies are not part of the body mentioned

  236. here in Ephesians 4 membership. In the one body is essential for

  237. salvation first, Peter 3 and verse 21 the like figure

  238. whereunto even baptism doth also.

  239. Now, save us, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,

  240. but the answer of a good conscience toward God, by the

  241. resurrection of Jesus Christ. The church that Jesus

  242. established is commanded to stress the whole counsel of God

  243. and not just certain aspects of it acts 20 verse 27, God good,

    Acts 20:27

  244. just set up an arrangement where where one religious body stress

  245. is one aspect of his will While others stress something else or

  246. other things. That's not the way God planned

  247. it, that's not the way God wants it.

  248. We are to be like minded. Of one Accord speaking, the same

  249. thing be of the same mind. Denominations kind of celebrate

  250. their uniqueness and their diversity.

  251. Jesus actually condemns human traditions because it gets away

  252. from obeying God, they Pride themselves in heaven, all kinds

  253. of different programs. Within their Church, they call

  254. it one. That is one, that is pushed

  255. towards the young people in ones that have pushed towards the

  256. older folks, and they separate even the services one for more,

  257. traditional than one for more conventional and one for more

  258. contemporary and all these different kinds of things.

  259. There are even now, cowboy churches, and if you want to be

  260. go to a Cowboy Church, you can go to Cowboy Church and feel

  261. good about that. So the Church is of the same

  262. mind. And of the same actions of one

  263. Accord doing the same things. Here are their arguments that

  264. are used to justify denominationalism.

  265. Some would say, well, one church is as good as another and God,

  266. accepts and approves of all denominations.

  267. Well, let's read acts 4 and verses 10 through 12, Peter

  268. standing before the council. Let it be known to you all and

  269. all and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus

  270. Christ, whom you crucified whom God raised from the dead by him.

  271. This man stands before you here before you whole.

  272. This is the stone, which was rejected by you builders Which

  273. has become the Chief Cornerstone nor is there salvation in any

  274. other. For there is no other name under

  275. Heaven, given among men whereby we must be saved.

  276. That tells me if I try to put a name on that, sign out there in

  277. front of the building this morning. because one preacher or

  278. one man or some person that we think is an apostle or whatever

  279. it is if we put his name out there because of what he said,

  280. It's being condemned right here in the scripture.

  281. There is no other name, given among men whereby, we must be

  282. saved. That mean Jesus Christ.

  283. The Chief Cornerstone, he is the builder of the church.

  284. Well, another another argument, maybe the different churches are

  285. just different routes to heaven and we are all going to the same

  286. place. We're all just getting there in

  287. different ways. How many times have we heard

  288. that? well, notice what John says, in

  289. John 14 verses 5 through 6, Thomas said to him, Lord we do

    John 14:5–6

  290. not know where where you are going and how can we know the

  291. way Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life.

  292. No one comes to the father, except through me. it isn't

  293. going to happen any other way, I've said this before, but I

  294. believe Jesus was almost being so emphatic.

  295. Here, that how dare you? Try to think that there is any

  296. other way to get to heaven. Other than through me.

  297. I'm the one that put up with all the abuse and the spitting on

  298. and the beatings and went to the cross and was crucified for you.

  299. And no one is going to get to heaven, except through me.

  300. There's no other way. well how do we come to the father through

  301. Christ and Galatians 3 and verses 26 and 27 for you are all

  302. sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus for as many of you

  303. as were baptized into Christ, have put on Christ so, when we

  304. are baptized, We come to the father through Christ.

  305. Next argument, maybe well attend, the Church of your

  306. choice as we said the denominational World actually

  307. exist to allow a person to shop for a church.

  308. I was talking with I secure a few weeks ago, and he mentioned

  309. earlier on, in his, in his life, how he was going around from

  310. from church, building to church, building an organization that

  311. organization to try to find a church.

  312. And when he finally came to the Church of Christ, he realized

  313. that this is the true church. The church that Jesus Built. the

  314. only true church that we can read about in the gospel because

  315. all the other of the other religious organizations, or

  316. so-called churches out there, have certain things that they

  317. put their emphasis on and it's not worshipping God in spirit

  318. and in truth. So some denominational leaders,

  319. praise God for the different churches or folks may find Doc a

  320. different Doctrine or practice that fits their life.

  321. No, their churches. You can go to and you can just

  322. if you want to go fishing on a Sunday, will you can go fishing

  323. on a Sunday and you can kind of make up for it here, there or be

  324. on a committee or whatever it may be.

  325. But God commands, his people, his children on Sunday on the

  326. first day of the week to worship Him in spirit and in truth and

  327. to remember the death burial and resurrection of his son.

  328. So we don't plan things on Sunday, like Others May view,

  329. but I can go out and find a church that I can feel good

  330. about that. You see where I can do other

  331. things and and feel good about that if I just search shop

  332. around long enough to find that religious organization.

  333. Of course, this is not something that's good and scriptural and

  334. unifying. And second Timothy 4 and verses

  335. 2 through 4, preach the word be ready in season and out of

  336. season, convince rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and

  337. teaching for the time will come. When they will not endure sound

  338. Doctrine, but according to their own desires because they have

  339. itching ears, they will Heap up for themselves teachers.

  340. And they will turn away. Turn their ears away from the

  341. truth and be turned aside to fables.

  342. So yeah. we see that happening today, And there are a lot of

  343. folks going around with itching ears and you scratching just

  344. like you do a dog and they'll stand there all day and let you

  345. scratchin. Sadly we live in a time when

  346. religious groups exist that reject all sorts of biblical

  347. teachings but they give a false Comfort to people that are that

  348. they're calling Christians, too many think of the church as a

  349. democracy in which people decide What is acceptable rather than

  350. recognizing? The Christchurch is a kingdom.

  351. He is the king and he is the lawgiver.

  352. Also they say, well, each denomination composes a segment

  353. of the true church or the one body.

  354. And each denomination is a part of the whole of course, the

  355. problem with this view is that according to the Bible,

  356. Individual Christians, members of the bodies of body of Christ

  357. compose, the one body, not the whole religious world.

  358. Romans 12 and verse Verses 4 and 5 for, as we have many members

  359. in one body but all the members do not have the same function.

  360. So we being many are one body in Christ and individually members.

  361. One of another so we talkin about all of us have many

  362. members in one body, all of us are members of that one body but

  363. we all but all the members do not have the same function you

  364. don't have the same function as brother so-and-so or sister so

  365. and so you don't have that some of us have certain functions and

  366. certain things that we take on within the within the church and

  367. others maybe or Freight or they don't have the ability or

  368. whatever it may be but We all have a purpose and we all have a

  369. part, right? So we being many are one body in

  370. Christ and individually members of one another.

  371. All of us together make up that one body.

  372. Just like this hand is part of this body.

  373. It's not this hand, but as part of this body, this finger is not

  374. this finger but it's part of this body.

  375. And we all work together in unity as God designed it. 1st

  376. Corinthians 12 and verse 27. Now, you are the body of Christ

  377. and members individually. So this claim is forced to admit

  378. that the whole religious bodies are baptized in and we know

  379. that's not the case. First Corinthians, 12, and verse

  380. 13, for by one Spirit, we were all baptized into one body.

  381. The only way to get into one body is to be baptized.

  382. That's the only way. It says it right here in

  383. Scripture. They also try to argue that the

  384. branch has talked about in John 15 or the various denominations.

  385. But such a claim didn't not fit the actual wording in the

  386. context, notice abide in me, and I, in you as the branch cannot

  387. bear fruit of itself. Except it abide in the vine.

  388. No more can ye, except ye abide in me.

  389. I am the vine. Ye are the branches.

  390. He that abideth in me and I in him the same bringeth forth,

  391. much fruit for without me. Ye can do nothing.

  392. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch and is

  393. withered. Men gather them and cast them

  394. into the fire and they are burned.

  395. If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what

  396. you will and it shall be done unto you.

  397. So shall ye be my disciples. Jesus said if amen and Jesus did

  398. not say, Jesus did not say abide in a branch, he didn't say that.

  399. So, that's a branch over there. You just go by to that, Branch

  400. over there. And you go Biden.

  401. This Branch over here. He said, if a man instead, he

  402. said abide not in me. He said that ye are branches and

  403. abide in me and you will be my disciples.

  404. So when we abide in Christ, we all are members of that body and

  405. we are all unified. You cannot.

  406. We cannot remain faithful to Christ.

  407. While practicing unscriptural Doctrine notice in Matthew, 15

    Matthew 15:9

  408. verse 9. And in vain, they worship me

  409. teaching as doctrines, the Commandments of men.

  410. So when these man-made organizations and the

  411. denominations that are brought on by men are are pushed and we

  412. find that their worship is in vain to God.

  413. Well, can we or should we Fellowship, denominations or can

  414. we worship with them? I think this is probably the big

  415. question. The big elephant in the room if

  416. you want to say. Can we just decide on some

  417. Sunday morning that we want to go over here to some mega church

  418. and and worship there and it be acceptable in God's eyes or can

  419. we just pick one that that fits the time that we want to worship

  420. or it fits our need or fits what we want?

  421. Can we worship there and be in fellowship with them there at

  422. that place? Well, what is fellowship?

  423. It's translated from the Greek word Koinonia I know Nene?

  424. Yeah I cannot pronounce that word, excuse me.

  425. Koinonia. Yeah, that's it.

  426. Which is defined as Association communion joint participation

  427. according to Thayer, Nelson's Bible dictionary.

  428. Says in the New Testament. Fellowship has a direct

  429. spiritual meaning the distinctly, excuse me, spiritual

  430. meaning, it is a joint participation with other

  431. Christians in activities related to being a Christian.

  432. What it, what do we? What do we do together?

  433. We worship together. We worship according to Spirit

  434. and Truth. Notice that first John 1 verse 7

    1 John 1:7

  435. says, but if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we

  436. have Fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ,

  437. his son cleanses us from all sin.

  438. So if someone is not walking in the light, are we in fellowship

  439. with them? Notice the illustration when you

  440. are in fellowship with God, and I am in fellowship with God,

  441. then you and I are in fellowship with each other.

  442. That's the simplest way that we can illustrate it.

  443. So, how is a person in fellowship with God, they obey

  444. God and they do his will and his Commandments, they worship Him

  445. in spirit. And in truth, the way that God

  446. commanded them to worship Him. And when we find a church like

  447. that, this doing things, according to Bible pattern, yes,

  448. then we can Fellowship them. We can have fellowship with him

  449. because we have all things in common, we are one mind.

  450. We are one body. We all have one hope because of

  451. the one. God. so, in conclusion, There is

  452. a way that seems right to a man but it's end is the way of

  453. death. Certainly, if we Look at

  454. denominationalism today, worshiping an error, it's it's

  455. wrong. It's not according to Bible

  456. pattern and we can't we can't do that.

  457. We can't be a particular of that.

  458. We can't be a part of that. We have to worship God the way

  459. that he designed, the lesson is yours this morning.

  460. I hope that something has been said A benefit us in some way,

  461. we never know the minds of those that are present.

  462. There may be someone here this morning, that is not a child of

  463. God and hearing the word wants you to repent of it.

  464. Won't you repent of your life, won't you then make the

  465. confession of your faith. That you believe that Jesus

  466. Christ is the Son of God and then be baptized into Christ for

  467. the remission of your sins. And be added to the church, the

  468. body of Christ. If you've taken those steps for

  469. some reason you've turned away and done, things that you feel

  470. requires a public confession of your fault, won't you come with

  471. repenting heart and confess your faults and we'll pray with you

  472. and for you. We thank you for listening to
