  1. Well, good morning everyone. It is a great day to be here

  2. together. I've enjoyed this worship so

  3. far, very much thank you to the song leaders and those who like

  4. prayers for those participants in your seat.

  5. I am thank you to Chris for leading that song.

  6. I think it paints a beautiful picture of the whole crucifixion

  7. scene, and it definitely has my mind in the right place this

  8. morning. So thank you for being here.

  9. It's great to see everyone. Today, we have a few visitors.

  10. It's, it's great to be with you today to worship Our God

  11. together. Today we're going to be studying

  12. from Hebrews chapter 5 and in this chapter we're going to be

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  13. building on as everything has in this letter, the previous

  14. chapters, the previous everything that's come before

  15. this in the book of Hebrews. So we'll do a quick review but

  16. we're going to try to plug through quite a few verses today

  17. and let the context do the work. So if you want to get your

  18. Bibles out with me, will be pretty much we spending most of

  19. our time Hebrews and you Can follow along their, I'll be

  20. using the new American Standard. So it's a just a little bit

  21. different than the new King James, but it's should be pretty

  22. easy to read easy to understand for us.

  23. So, typically, I read the whole chapter, we're going to go

  24. through, but in order to save time, I'm just going to go

  25. through it, verse by verse to start.

  26. So Hebrews chapter 5 leading up to this.

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  27. We just covered Hebrews chapter 4.

    Hebrews 4 chapter mention

  28. Last time I spoke and in the book of Hebrews, we've covered

  29. these main ideas so far. The fact that number one and

  30. chapter one. Jesus is divine.

  31. Then we went on to talk about how Jesus is greater than those

  32. great, and awesome Angels even those Destroying Angels Jesus is

  33. greater than them. Jesus is now greater than the

  34. prophets. This is quite a large section of

  35. the book of Hebrews talking about how he is greater than the

  36. prophets. He's the Fulfillment of the Old

  37. Testament, but yet he is soup. He supersedes even the Old

  38. Testament, people and the actions there.

  39. So, in the book of Hebrews, we've come this far.

  40. And last time, that the immediate context is a couple of

  41. verses, I'll read from chapter 4 verse It for of Joshua had given

  42. them rest. He would not have spoken of

  43. another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath rest

  44. for the people of God, for anyone who enters God's rest

  45. also rests from their works just as God did from his, let us

  46. therefore make every effort to enter that rest.

  47. So that no one will perish by by following their example of

  48. Disobedience. Then he goes on to say,

  49. therefore since we have a great high priest this Jesus Who has

  50. passed through the heavens who has come down to us and who has

  51. gone back to God. Jesus, the son of God, let us

  52. hold fast our confession, hold on, tight, and grow for.

  53. We do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our

  54. weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are

  55. yet without sin. So this is the immediately

  56. preceding verses remember, the original writers didn't put

  57. versus, so there's no break here.

  58. This is a continuation of I thought.

  59. And so, we move right on into Hebrews chapter 5, verse 1 for

    Hebrews 5:1

  60. every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf

  61. of men and things pertaining to God.

  62. So, before we jump in to the extensive, this study, this

  63. topic of the priesthood keeps coming up.

  64. And not everyone who reads this as familiar with it, with what a

  65. priest was. Now everyone in here, has an

  66. extensive knowledge of the Old Law.

  67. And so just for a A quick background.

  68. We learned last week when Shah hey taught us about, he gave us

  69. a pretty big overview of the whole Bible.

  70. And we talked about how Adam and Eve were kind of a type of

  71. priests in the garden working. Before the Lord, then in the Old

  72. Testament, the priests were those who were designated to

  73. serve in God's house. They were the, the tribe of Levi

  74. or Levis family his descendants. And then now in the New

  75. Testament, we're told that we are a kingdom of priests.

  76. One of us here, who is a member of gods.

  77. Family is a kingdom of priests, but simply put the role of a

  78. priest is someone who goes to God on behalf of man, and

  79. connects with man on behalf of on behalf of God.

  80. That's a simple concept. It's a connection to the Divine.

  81. Now, this isn't unique to Christianity though, and I think

  82. it's something that God put inside of us to understand it's

  83. a natural law or a natural desire to Have someone to help

  84. us understand the Divine to connect to the Divine you.

  85. It doesn't matter what religion, you go to or even really, what

  86. spirituality because some people aren't don't consider themselves

  87. religious, but maybe they're a spiritual person.

  88. They're in tune with spiritual things.

  89. They might say, they still go to maybe a yogi.

  90. Maybe someone goes to a shaman, they go to another religions.

  91. You have the, the Dalai Lama for Buddhism, you have the pcre.

  92. You have different levels of people who act as a go-between

  93. between God, and man, supposedly.

  94. And so, the priest in the Old Testament is this is this

  95. fulfillment someone who had helped man, understand God, and

  96. his word, and would help man offer sacrifices in the Old

  97. Testament. And now connect to God today,

  98. just like we do. So very simple concept.

  99. Someone needs to go between, man and God.

  100. So Jesus was not just a priest. He Was the high priest.

  101. So he started out in verse 14, every high priest taken from

  102. among men is appointed on behalf of men and things pertaining to

  103. God. So Aaron was the first high

  104. priest. He was appointed by God and

  105. place of Moses, he was appointed by God for this role and so the

  106. high priest. Don't choose this for

  107. themselves. No, God appoints them in order

  108. to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins, that was

  109. the role of the high priest in the Old Testament to off.

  110. Gifts and sacrifices for sins. It was also though that he could

  111. deal gently with the ignorant and misguided.

  112. This is the way The New American Standard.

  113. Words it the new King James and several others word it, the

  114. ignorant and I think gone astray.

  115. So we'll talk about that difference in just a minute.

  116. He can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided since he

  117. also himself has beset with weaknesses.

  118. Now, this is a beautiful concept that I think has been tarnished.

  119. Act a little bit when we think of religious leaders, a lot of

  120. times, it's it's muddy with the idea that we've seen in the

  121. world and especially people who don't have a religious

  122. affiliation. They've got a really muddy

  123. tainted idea. Of what a religious leader

  124. should be. We hear so much of corruption

  125. and, and relate and religious Elite or corruption with church

  126. leaders. Where they were stealing money,

  127. or maybe they were committing inappropriate acts, they were

  128. getting that scan. Dalls this.

  129. And that we, there's a lot of. What's the word?

  130. There's a lot of shady Behavior. We've seen from church leaders,

  131. who've taken advantage of their role, but that's not the role of

  132. God designed, and it's really beautiful.

  133. When you read it, even from the Old Testament, he was one who

  134. went to God offering sacrifices, and he was designed to be

  135. someone who wasn't just high and mighty about the people, but he

  136. was with them enough to be gentle with them.

  137. And I think it's important to understand God's design for this

  138. role for a spiritual leader, because it's not the the nasty

  139. role that we've seen it becoming in many circles.

  140. God has designed a beautiful system even from the beginning

  141. of time, even when maybe in the Old Law and the old days, we

  142. would have considered that to be a hard time, an eye for an eye

  143. time, where there's a lot of Wars there was a lot of things

  144. going on that, that we look. Back and say man, we have it

  145. easy now for survival in many things like that.

  146. Even in a time like that God didn't Overlook the need for his

  147. leaders to be gentle with his people.

  148. And now he's and now he's taking this and he's showing us Jesus

  149. and light of this concept since he himself is also beset with

  150. weaknesses. That's why the high priest can

  151. understand and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices

  152. for sins. As for the people.

  153. So also for himself. So, the high priest didn't just

  154. go. All you poor guys down there

  155. with your immorality and sin, know he was doing it for himself

  156. to it was for him. But is different for Jesus,

  157. because Jesus never sinned. Now, I underlined these words,

  158. ignorant and misguided and this is kind of a side point.

  159. So we'll kind of take a pause and talk about this for a

  160. minute. When I think about those who are

  161. lost, sometimes I have a view of them.

  162. I don't think I should have He points out here that people can

  163. be ignorant and misguided. Now, this word ignorant, doesn't

  164. mean you have a hard heart necessarily.

  165. Ignorance just means you don't know something about it.

  166. I think is Mark Twain that said we're all ignorant, just about

  167. different things. We all have a lack of

  168. understanding and we could all especially be misguided.

  169. I like the way, the New American Standard, where did that the

  170. other word is maybe gone astray, but it has a connotation either

  171. way you look at the translation. Of being misled or being

  172. misguided. And this is a concept that we

  173. can see throughout the Bible and Romans chapter 10 verse 14.

    Romans 10:14

  174. It says how then will they call on him in whom they have not

  175. believed, how will they believe in him whom they have not heard?

  176. And how will they hear without a preacher?

  177. How will they preach, unless they are sent?

  178. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good, good news

  179. of good things so people can be ignorant in the world.

  180. Old, but I think we got to be careful.

  181. Not to look at the world like it's just a bunch of people who

  182. don't never want the gospel. We can be ignorant ourselves.

  183. And so, especially if you're ignorant of this, that's the job

  184. of God's people specifically, its mentioning of the high

  185. priest minutes and gods people's job to help with ignorance and

  186. those who are misguided and this one, especially I want to talk

  187. about for Roman from Jeremiah chapter 23.

    Jeremiah 23 chapter mention

  188. This idea of being misguided, really hit home for me when

  189. Oakdale was doing the eldership study and we were talking a lot

  190. about the role of a Shepherd. The Shepherd and the elders

  191. described as one. Who should be a Shepherd helping

  192. the people along. And in that process, I came

  193. across this verse in the study of that.

  194. And Jeremiah chapter 23, it says this.

    Jeremiah 23 chapter mention

  195. God's people had gone all astray were committing sin, but in the

  196. middle of all that, it says woe to the Shepherds who are

  197. destroying and scattering the Sheep of my pasture, declares

  198. the Lord. Therefore thus says, the Lord

  199. God of Israel concerning the Shepherds who are attending my

  200. people, you have scattered, my flock and driven them away and

  201. have not attended to them behold.

  202. I'm about to tend to you for the for you.

  203. For the evil of your Deeds, declares the Lord in the midst

  204. of a Nation who has Off. And who is sinning, God?

  205. Went after the Shepherds who are misleading the people.

  206. He says, I'm going to come down on them verse 3, then I myself

  207. will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries

  208. where I have driven them and bring them back to their Pastor.

  209. I believe this is a prophecy of Jesus to come New Testament and

  210. they will be fruitful. And multiply I will also raise

  211. up Shepherds over them and they will tend them and they will not

  212. be afraid longer nor be terrified.

  213. Nor will any be missing declares the Lord God was going to come

  214. back and get them and Shepherd them himself Jesus.

  215. Did that? Jesus came down himself and saw

  216. a bunch of leaders who had misled his people.

  217. And he was frustrated angry with it, and he said, I'm going to

  218. come down myself and I'm going to leave my people, and I'm

  219. going to Shepherd my flock. And the point is until we have

  220. compassion for the misguided, we will just be bitter against the

  221. world. We're going to have an

  222. us-versus-them mentality. We're going to throw mental

  223. grenades out of this building at them.

  224. But our job is to have compassion on the ignorant and

  225. misguided to know that we ourselves could be in there.

  226. Same shoes, what we want. God's will is for his people,

  227. not to just know what to share with compassion.

  228. So the world can know, because if we are see the world as a

  229. world full of people who don't want it, what kind of life is

  230. that to live, is that really the gospel driver?

  231. I was talking earlier, I heard Isaac say, you know, my friend

  232. who was converted, he's spoken here before he was talking about

  233. this idea of evangelism and this idea of people thinking, man,

  234. nobody wants it. And he was like they were

  235. telling me that they were talking to me, someone who's

  236. converted there was someone else in the situation was converted

  237. telling us about how nobody wants it and he was like, what

  238. does that make you feel? How do you think I feel about

  239. that you're sitting here telling me nobody wants this?

  240. I am a convert. He's now a preacher of the

  241. gospel and he's saying, no, but nobody people are telling him

  242. nobody wants it. That's not true.

  243. May we have compassion on the ignorance and misguided.

  244. That is the role of God's leaders of all time.

  245. Going on in verse 4, And no one takes the honor to himself, so

  246. this honor of being set apart as a high priest, no one takes to

  247. honor to himself. But he receives it when he is

  248. called by God, even as Aaron was so in the Old Testament, you

  249. didn't just say, I'm going to step into this role.

  250. God had to appoint. You Aaron was the first one,

  251. versified. So also Christ did not glorify

  252. himself. So as to become a high priest,

  253. but he who said to him, you are my My son.

  254. Today, I have begotten, you just, as he also says, in

  255. another passage, you are a priest forever, according to the

  256. order of Melchizedek. So this is tying in a lot of the

  257. concepts of Jesus being the Eternal Son of God being Gods,

  258. son. We talked about in chapter two

  259. of the book of Hebrews and he's continuing to spiral that in and

  260. to his into his teaching that Jesus didn't pick.

  261. Didn't do this for himself, but God.

  262. Chosen and God appointed him and it says, you are a priest

  263. forever. According to the order of

  264. Melchizedek, who in the world, is that funny name?

  265. We'll talk about that more, probably another study, because

  266. he doesn't spend a lot of time on here.

  267. Verse 7 in the days of his flesh.

  268. Speaking of Jesus off, he offered up both prayers and

  269. supplications with loud, crying and tears to the one able to

  270. save him from death. And he was heard because of his

  271. piety. I highlighted this phrase the

  272. days of his flesh because I just thought it's going to be

  273. interesting. Is it's just crazy to think that

  274. one day, we're going to be able to talk about our lives as the

  275. days of our flesh. There's going to be a day.

  276. Once this life is over, we're going to maybe look back and

  277. heaven and think man, you know, the days in my flat, when the

  278. back in the days in my flesh, that's what this is referencing

  279. of Jesus. The days when he was alive on

  280. Earth, he offered up prayers and supplications with loud crying.

  281. And tears to the one able to save him.

  282. What time is when you, when we hear of a hero and literature

  283. and movies or whatever it is, the hero is / shown as this

  284. person who's never never wavered.

  285. Never never slipping up. Never, never daunted.

  286. But man, it paints such a real picture of Jesus.

  287. And one that I'm glad God gave us the reality of that he was

  288. and you had loud crying and tears.

  289. He was driven to the point. Of coming on his knees to God

  290. from his trials. That is something that we can

  291. all relate to jibon. Jesus was driven to his knees by

  292. life and he did wasn't driven to the point that he just overcame

  293. everything on his own. Even he went to the one who was

  294. able to save him from Death. We are driven to our knees

  295. sometimes with nowhere to go. Even Jesus did that?

  296. And he was heard because of his piety, you know, it's

  297. interesting you could have said anything like he was heard

  298. because he was God's son, he was heard because he was God

  299. himself. It says that he was heard

  300. because of his piety or his reverence you that can be

  301. translated. He wasn't just gives a reason.

  302. It's very specific. Frank prayed today that without

  303. an attitude of reverence, he started his prayer with he said,

  304. and Jesus Was Heard because of his reverence, it's a hard

  305. concept to grasp deity, being reverent to deity, but it is a

  306. beautiful example for us. Verse 8, although he was a son.

  307. Speaking of Jesus, he learned obedience from the things which

  308. he suffered Jesus had to learn obedience.

  309. Jesus had to go through things like ordinary life and he had to

  310. be obedient, he had to be obedient through this

  311. spectacular challenges. Like, the crucifixion, he had to

  312. be obedient. As a young man, he had to learn

  313. obedience as a child and he had to learn obedience to human

  314. authority. And Luke 2:51, it says and he

    Luke 2:51

  315. went down with him. Speaking of when he was in

  316. Nazareth, was his parents. He went down with them and came

  317. to Nazareth and he continued, excuse me.

  318. This is a situation where Jesus had gone to Jerusalem with his

  319. family and then he was left by himself, and his parents came

  320. came back looking for him and they finally found him after

  321. they found him and he said, didn't you know that I would be

  322. about my father's business? He was in the temple.

  323. Talking and asking questions and speaking with them.

  324. After that says, and you went down with them.

  325. So we went back with his parents and came to Nazareth and he

  326. continued in subjection to them and his mother treasured, all

  327. these things in her heart, the things about Jesus potential in

  328. his in his goals, and his mindset, verse 52 and Jesus kept

  329. increasing in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and Men,

  330. it gives us four things here that Jesus increased in.

  331. He grew in understanding his physique, grew.

  332. He became a man, he grew. Spiritually his favor with God,

  333. and he grew socially his favor, with men.

  334. Jesus had to learn and to learn obedience.

  335. He had to learn how to be a man, how to be a person.

  336. Verse 9 of Hebrews chapter 5 goes on to say and having been

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  337. made perfect. So, there's that idea again.

  338. He wasn't just, it wasn't just when he was born, he was

  339. perfect, he had to become it. We know his people, there's a

  340. certain level of becoming we've already talked about in Hebrews

  341. where you have to sort of earn your stripes, he became, and he

  342. was made perfect through the things that he endured and

  343. learned. He was made perfect and he

  344. became to all those who obey him the source of Eternal salvation.

  345. It is fascinating to think that there is a source of Eternal

  346. salvation. You know, it's awesome.

  347. If you're need water to find a source of water, we think of a

  348. source of would, you know, if you're in a forest, that's a

  349. source of wood, a source of something, you need, you can

  350. find a source of gold in the mountains and is crazy.

  351. What people will do to get to that goal, they will carve up

  352. mountains. They will take away mountains,

  353. it will excavate and filter and sift to no end to find gold. and

  354. it's fascinating that we have a source of Eternal salvation and

  355. it's in the person of Jesus Christ himself, we have a source

  356. of Eternal salvation Goes on to say verse 10 being designated by

  357. God as a high priest, according to the order of Melchizedek

  358. concerning him, we have much to say there's a lot to say about

  359. Melchizedek and it is hard to explain.

  360. Why is hard to explain because you have become dull of hearing.

  361. They were to the point where their, their ears weren't

  362. necessarily bad. He's not saying it's their ears

  363. that they couldn't hear, he's saying that their hearts, Yes,

  364. often said he who has ears to hear.

  365. Let Him hear everybody has ears, but he's talking about a

  366. spiritual disposition. To listen.

  367. We've already learned that the book of Hebrews told us that the

  368. word of God is sharp is our hearing Sharp.

  369. Is our spiritual hearing sharp, or do we have Dole hearing?

  370. May we have sharp spiritual ears.

  371. There's people in here who are hard of hearing or have Dole

  372. hearing physically, but are very sharp spiritual Minds that's

  373. what matters in God's sight. There's people here with hearing

  374. aids, who have sharp spiritual ears.

  375. It doesn't matter how you here, it's a matter about how your

  376. mind receives it may. We have sharp spiritual ears,

  377. Verse 12 for though. By this time, you ought to be

  378. teachers by this time, there they are.

  379. Hebrews, who have learned the word, their Hebrew Christians.

  380. By this time, these people have heard it.

  381. Long enough, you should be teachers, but you have, but you

  382. have need again for someone to teach you, the elementary

  383. principles of the Oracles of God and you have come to need milk

  384. and not solid food. So the issue one of the things

  385. he's kind of finally built up. Do you understand this great?

  386. Jesus. You understand how powerful and

  387. mighty he is? And you're lacking, you should

  388. be a teacher of this. You should understand how great

  389. this is to where you should be teaching other people.

  390. But you still have to have people teach you.

  391. I've heard this referred to as kind of mouth open Christianity.

  392. Feed me. And it can be like that

  393. sometimes for us at church. Do I come to church?

  394. Do I approach my spiritual life with a feed me mentality.

  395. Do you come to here, waiting for someone else to feed you?

  396. What do you come here? Ready to participate in courage.

  397. To try to strengthen others. Or are we the ones feeding off

  398. of other people constantly and he, specifically, talking and

  399. teaching. Now, with the teaching, he does

  400. not extinct distinguish between man and woman, and he does not

  401. distinguish between public or private.

  402. That's the beauty of this passage to me.

  403. If there's not anybody in this room.

  404. Who is exempt. Any sentient person in this room

  405. who can understand God's word can understand the beauties of

  406. it. And I've known it for long

  407. enough, we should be teaching, you might not be have to teach

  408. up here, that's not the role he's talking about.

  409. He's talking about any role where you can teach someone

  410. else. God's word is designed to not be

  411. kept herself. If you learn it and you truly

  412. understand it, you can't keep it to yourself.

  413. That's why when Jesus says the man Willa God will come and make

  414. his home with him. And the word of God will become

  415. a Fountain of Living Water springing out of him.

  416. You can't keep it in. Water goes in, it's got to come

  417. out of a fountain and that's the idea with God's word is, it

  418. cannot Not just be learned and kept, you don't have to teach up

  419. here, if that's your role. Great, but for, for the women,

  420. this is just as much. You, you have just as much of a

  421. role in this that if you've been knowing God's word long enough,

  422. if you have known it long enough, You should be ready to

  423. teach now. Not everyone in this room is in

  424. that position. There's people who are

  425. spiritually young, and that's fine and we'll talk about that

  426. in the next slide. He says, for everyone who

  427. partakes of only milk, only milk is not accustomed to the word of

  428. righteousness. For he is an infant.

  429. The word of righteousness, is something you have to get

  430. accustomed to. You have to immerse yourself

  431. that you have to Live it and study it for it, to become

  432. something. You can handle more of because

  433. if you don't do that, you're going to be stuck on milk.

  434. You're going to be stuck with the baby food and God does not

  435. want that. And, you know, as I teach this,

  436. I want you to be clear. I forgot to say this at the

  437. beginning. A lot of this is going to sound

  438. like I'm preaching at you. This is just as much as me, but

  439. I feel like it's a disservice if I don't teach you with the

  440. urgency that the Riders saying, but if I don't move on from milk

  441. and if I don't get accustomed, God's word.

  442. I'm a spiritual infant, and that is supposed to be kind of funny,

  443. but also not funny. It's cute for a while.

  444. When a baby is eating baby food, they need to be taken care of.

  445. They need to be nurtured. Someone else has to feed them,

  446. but there's a point at which it's not cute anymore.

  447. It's not cute to be a man being fed by somebody else or to be

  448. man, drinking from a bottle of milk.

  449. It's supposed to be funny because it's embarrassing to be

  450. a baby still when you're old. But it's also not supposed to be

  451. funny because it's like, seriously, that's bad.

  452. God's will does not just go away.

  453. God's word is eternal. Jesus said Heaven and Earth will

  454. pass away, but my word will never pass away.

  455. This is going to be here for eternity.

  456. Are we going to be spiritual babies for eternity?

  457. Are we going to be spiritually immature for eternity?

  458. So the question is, who's feeding you?

  459. Because we went in this verse, you ought to be teachers, is

  460. someone else exclusively teaching you, there's nothing

  461. wrong. I'm talk to all the time.

  462. I have a lot to learn to. I'm Todd from my seat as well

  463. but it is that my exclusive diet is that my exclusive spiritual

  464. diet. Is it all the spiritual

  465. nourishment? You get when you come to church

  466. Or are you able to feed yourself?

  467. Because once you can feed yourself then you can work on

  468. feeding others. That's the natural life.

  469. Cycle of Christian. That's not supposed to be

  470. forever. It's cute.

  471. Beautiful and natural for a baby to be a baby while it's a baby,

  472. but not after that. Verse 14.

  473. But solid food is for the mature who because of practice, how do

  474. you become mature practice repetition, who became who

  475. because of practice have their senses trained to discern Good

  476. and Evil. For a while, it can be

  477. frustrating. Because even if you care about

  478. spiritual things, you're going to be frustrated by the process

  479. of practice. There's a lot of times where

  480. I've had questions and I could feel frustrated but just having

  481. the questions and never the answers and and even when you

  482. have the answers you don't feel like you fully understand it.

  483. I have tons to learn. And and there many people in

  484. here who were way more mature than I am, But are we practicing

  485. spiritual things and our our, our senses being trained to

  486. discern good and evil. You can't always explain the

  487. process. You can't always hear it from a

  488. lesson and have somebody tell us in a lesson what to do, what

  489. think we have to practice it ourselves to be discerning. when

  490. I was going through my teacher training, we had this tool we

  491. use called the depth of knowledge wheel And the wheel of

  492. depth of knowledge, they called The dok Wheel.

  493. There's level one, two, three and four.

  494. And basically we our goal is to take students from level one to

  495. where they can do level for type things and I know it's really

  496. small but level 1 is basically recall.

  497. So if you can recall a lesson that would be what would be

  498. considered a level one depth of knowledge level 2 would be a

  499. skill or a concept that you can take away.

  500. Level 3 is where we're at is as teachers they were really He has

  501. to work on stay in the level 3 and 4 type of activities where

  502. you can get your students. Assessing comparing

  503. investigating differentiating drawing conclusions, citing

  504. evidence critiquing, formulating developing a logical argument.

  505. It's great. And I remember the first time

  506. that I was really starting to memorize, or is it memorized

  507. there's memorize up here? That first time when I was

  508. starting to learn. My first verses, that was all I

  509. could do. It was great.

  510. Well, I've memorized my first couple verses that was great and

  511. we need to continue to do all these things.

  512. But just recall and just repeating and just stating or

  513. even listening. Listening is not even on this

  514. because that's that's just an act.

  515. It's not even a skill necessarily Level 2 being able

  516. to get more parameters for understanding it and a little

  517. bit more ability to interact with the concept, but level 4 is

  518. what we're encouraged to connect to synthesize to, to basically

  519. apply. That is basically the whole idea

  520. of level 44, students, if we want them to apply a concept,

  521. that's why they want student projects that's life for

  522. Christian. Once we can take something, put

  523. it into application. I tore lives and even to explain

  524. it to others. I think there's one on here

  525. where you can explain to others, if my student can explain how to

  526. do something to another, I know they've got that down.

  527. That's a simple biblical concept all along.

  528. So, this is Hebrews chapter 5, we're a little bit early, so I

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  529. didn't know if I was going to go into chapter 6, a little, but

  530. you cannot stop the context here.

  531. So I'm going to go a little bit further.

  532. But so far and have chapter 5, we've learned these few things,

  533. we need to have compassion on the ignorant, misguided that we

  534. have Christ. As an example, he had to learn

  535. obedience, the hard way, just like us.

  536. And we have a source of Eternal salvation.

  537. Don't be a man-child. Those are our lessons from

  538. Hebrews chapter 5 but the context does not stop there and

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  539. I don't want to leave us with that kind of harsh.

  540. Ending Hebrews chapter 6, goes on to say therefore after all

    Hebrews 6 chapter mention

  541. those things we just said therefore leaving the elementary

  542. teaching about the Christ. The basics, the very milk of the

  543. word, let us press on to maturity, not laying again, the

  544. foundation of repentance from dead works and of Faith toward

  545. God. If you were going to build a

  546. building, you just laid the foundation over and over the

  547. house won't get anywhere. Says, don't keep laying this

  548. out. The same Foundation from dead

  549. works and of Faith toward God, of instruction, about Washings

  550. and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and

  551. eternal judgment. And these we will do if God

  552. permits. It's not like we're not like

  553. we're eliminating these but we need to move on to the next

  554. thing and I think maybe we'll talk about this more later but I

  555. want to get the points. He's Making.

  556. Verse 44 in the case of those who have once been enlightened

  557. and have tasted of the Heavenly gift.

  558. And I've been made partakers of the Holy Spirit and have tasted

  559. the good word of God and the powers of the age to come and

  560. then have fallen away. It is impossible to renew them

  561. again to repentance. Since they again, crucify to

  562. themselves, the Son of God and put him to an open.

  563. Shame. Not too long ago.

  564. I heard the read that verse and I was like, is it saying that

  565. there's people who it's impossible to save?

  566. Because it sounds like that at first read now, maybe we'll

  567. spend more time on this next time but in short, I'm number

  568. one, I believe that a lot of this is talking about the powers

  569. of the age to come. Maybe being the church age where

  570. the New Testament Church, they were given miracles to see the

  571. powers of the age to come where they were proving that Christ

  572. was the Messiah with Miracles and setting up his church with

  573. Miracles. So I don't know if this is even

  574. necessarily talking about All in this dispensation but either

  575. way, I feel I think we can still get the point.

  576. He says those people who have fallen away after seeing all

  577. this after partaking of the Holy Spirit after tasting, the

  578. Heavenly calling, it's impossible to renew them again

  579. to repentance now. The point being, it's dangerous.

  580. If you go through all the steps of knowing and then you just

  581. Don't progress. This is the danger of not

  582. progressing that we started last chapter.

  583. He said, it's dangerous to stay spiritual maybe because if you

  584. just see all that and you move on, there is nothing that can be

  585. done for them. Now, does that mean there's

  586. anyone in this room is danger of in danger of never being able to

  587. be saved? I believe what this is saying

  588. is, it's impossible for anyone else to renew them.

  589. Because there's nothing that I can do.

  590. For one of my friends who has left the church, it's up to

  591. them. I cannot renew them to

  592. repentance. That is totally up to them and

  593. there's nothing that I can do to change their hearts if they've

  594. heard it already. It's up to them.

  595. So I don't think this is saying that there's people in this room

  596. who can never be saved or that there are friends who just

  597. their, they're a lost cause I think it's just saying that we

  598. cannot always control it, it's up to them.

  599. Since they again, crucify to themselves, the Son of God, and

  600. put him to open shame. Now after backing off that

  601. point, the point is still the same.

  602. It's it's a bad thing. It's humiliating for Christ to

  603. be, put to an open shame after already seeing everything

  604. beautiful. He's done for them after already

  605. being having seen the wonders of Christ.

  606. It's a shame to him. What if that was used sacrifice

  607. and saw somebody just walk away from you.

  608. Now hurt that would be an open shame for the ground and drinks

  609. in the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation

  610. useful to those who seek. It is also tilled receives a

  611. blessing from God. So he's going to tell us two

  612. types of ground, one ground takes that rain and it produces

  613. vegetation, that's basically the good soil that accepts and lives

  614. and thrives and grows and God's word that receives a blessing

  615. from God. But if it yields thorns and

  616. thistles, it is Worthless and close to being cursed.

  617. These are two types of people. One type of person who takes

  618. God's word and lives it out, and grows in it.

  619. Is blessed by God. But someone, if someone takes

  620. God's word and just doesn't grow anything good from it, That's

  621. that's close to being cursed. If you have a field that never

  622. puts out any good crops they would curse that field and say

  623. forget it we're moving on to a different part of the land.

  624. No, obviously God's got a mercy so that doesn't that whole

  625. analogy doesn't completely apply, but that's oil, that will

  626. not ever repent. The end is to be burned and

  627. that's a really harsh reality, but it's the reality and we will

  628. be wrong to not teach it. You have the choice.

  629. Are you going to be a thorny ground?

  630. That doesn't respond? Or are you going to be good

  631. ground? Good ground, doesn't always look

  632. green and fertile though. Sometimes there's stages.

  633. Were Ground takes a while it. Can, you can have the ground

  634. with all these plants and all the foliage?

  635. It takes time sometimes But today, you can set a course.

  636. Am I going to be good ground or am I going to be thorny ground

  637. from God's word verse 9? This is where I couldn't end.

  638. I couldn't end before because he goes on to say, but beloved

  639. people, we love. We are convinced a better things

  640. concerning you. We're convinced that you're not,

  641. that you're not going to be stopping there, you're going to

  642. be better than that. You got this and things that

  643. accompany salvation, though, we are speaking.

  644. In this way, we're talking some harsh things but we're confident

  645. you can be better than this for God is Not unjust as to forget

  646. your work and the love which you have shown toward his name.

  647. This is deeply personal. Maybe there's people in this

  648. audience who don't feel like they're at the spot where they

  649. may be used to be. Or maybe you your, we go through

  650. phases, sometimes we're up. Sometimes we're down.

  651. And maybe this is, if this is a down face for you.

  652. God is Not unjust to forget your work and the love, which you

  653. have shown toward his name, even if you are in a down spot, God

  654. doesn't forgive. That's incredibly encouraging.

  655. I had there's a song called remember the Bad and the good

  656. you just forget, that's not God. God remembers that love that

  657. you've shown toward his name and having Minister door served and

  658. instill ministering serving to the Saints.

  659. God doesn't forget that. That's a wonderfully, comforting

  660. scripture, verse not verse 11. This is the last one will cover

  661. and we desire. The each one of you show the

  662. same diligence. So as to realize the full

  663. Assurance of Hope until the end so that you will not be sluggish

  664. but imitators of those who through faith and patience

  665. inherit the promises. He says he doesn't just say, I

  666. want you to be diligent. So you'll make the church

  667. stronger which you could have said that.

  668. But the diligence is also for the full assurance.

  669. Of Hope of the individual. So you're not going to have the

  670. full Assurance of Hope. Unless you're a diligent person

  671. in Christ, it is for the benefit of others, and for Christ, cause

  672. what you can, it seems your. You can only have the full

  673. Assurance of Hope, when you're immersed in it, when you're

  674. living it. And when you are all about it

  675. until the end, God wants us to be assured in Our Hope.

  676. God does not want us to be unconfident.

  677. First John says that that I believe the first job says that

  678. that he has written to them so that they wouldn't know and have

  679. Assurance of their salvation, that's God's plan, and we must

  680. be diligent to enjoy it that way.

  681. And the cure for sluggishness. Is diligence imitators of those

  682. who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

  683. You know what? I don't want to work out the

  684. most, it's actually not even when I'm sore from another

  685. workout. It's not when I'm just worked

  686. out the day before. The time that I want to work

  687. out, the least is when I've worked out in a month or two.

  688. My body is in a I've no momentum.

  689. I feel sluggish. But when I get up and get going

  690. and I work out today, the next day, I want two more in the next

  691. day. I want to even more because my

  692. body has momentum. It's like, it's a continual

  693. snowball of good things. That is our lesson for today.

  694. I hope that we can myself starting with myself, take

  695. something from this and learn from Hebrews, chapter 5 and half

    Hebrews 5 chapter mention

  696. of Hebrews chapter 6, so that we can become fruitful and multiply

    Hebrews 6 chapter mention

  697. in the service of our God together.

  698. If you've heard the word today and maybe you're not even,

  699. you're not even started on this process yet.

  700. Maybe you're not even a baby. Maybe you're just, maybe you're

  701. waiting to be reborn at this point.

  702. You can be reborn again. Today you can hear the word what

  703. you've already done today. You can believe on Jesus Christ.

  704. You can repent of your past life and change to go his way and

  705. confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and be baptized for

  706. the remission of your sins and be born again at that point.

  707. If you want to start by being a babe, it's beautiful.

  708. Ooh, it is a beautiful process. We've seen it recently and man,

  709. there's nothing better than. And then from there go on to

  710. live a Christian Life. Like she hates all last week.

  711. It's we're not we're not stopping there.

  712. It is. A whole plan where we live it

  713. out in our lives. And if you either want to start

  714. today, or if you want to get something right, we'd be happy

  715. to help you this morning while we stand while we see.
