  1. We're going to be reading from the 11th chapter of the Gospel

  2. of Luke. Let Luke chapter 11 would begin

    Luke 11 chapter mention

  3. reading in verse 1. The Bible says it happened that

  4. while Jesus was praying in a certain place after he had

  5. finished one of his disciples said to him, Lord teach us to

  6. pray. Just as John also taught his

  7. disciples must have been an amazing thing to hear.

  8. Someone like John the Baptist Pray to God.

  9. Someone who had had such intimate in remarkable and

  10. encounters with God unique in the history of the world.

  11. There were other prophets, but that was not a common

  12. experience, given to men and women over and over throughout

  13. the years. What John new of God's Eternal

  14. purpose. The tasks that had been laid

  15. upon his shoulders, the burden that he felt for his people, and

  16. for the unfolding of God's purpose.

  17. And what it must have been to your him.

  18. Pray, but all the more, what must have been to hear Jesus.

  19. Pray, we only have a few examples in the scripture that

  20. list or record in detail the words that he spoke on occasions

  21. like that. I think John 17, of course, the

  22. prayer that he prayed for his disciples and then later, the

  23. prayer that was brief and repetitious.

  24. In The Garden of Gethsemane, as he was begging God for

  25. deliverance, if it were possible, but he prayed many

  26. times in his life, he who knew God even in a greater and closer

  27. way than John the Baptist or any other Prophet before.

  28. And he had been in the bosom of the father, before he became

  29. flesh to dwell Among Us what message of been to hear him

  30. pray. And so, when the disciples heard

  31. him were not surprised that they would ask.

  32. Teach us to pray and he did in verse 2.

  33. He said to them, when you pray, say our father who is in heaven,

  34. Hallowed Be Your Name, Your Kingdom come.

  35. Now he said more than that, and we're not going to go on and

  36. look at the rest of this model or instructive prayer.

  37. That Jesus presented to his disciples.

  38. We're going to focus our attention on that one.

  39. Online. Your kingdom come.

  40. This comes into the theme of the meeting so far.

  41. If you have not been with us in previous studies, the theme of

  42. this meeting is the establishment and increase of

  43. the kingdom of God. And so tonight we're going to

  44. consider what Jesus meant when he taught his disciples to pray.

  45. Your kingdom come. So tonight, we're going to be

  46. talking about the establishment and increase of the kingdom of

  47. God. I think this merits a little bit

  48. of review from what we spoke about last evening.

  49. What is the kingdom of God is the kingdom of God present in

  50. the world today, if so? When was it established, is it

  51. now all that it will ever be or does it have a future stage and

  52. is that future stage going to be good and glorious?

  53. Or is it going to be tragic and ended in Failure?

  54. If the kingdom will grow and spread and increase?

  55. How exactly would that happen? Well, these are the sorts of

  56. questions. We're going to be working on in

  57. this lesson, but first, we need to understand what the kingdom

  58. is. The word Kingdom carries for

  59. essential ideas within its definition.

  60. We have them represented in the top panel farthest from me a

  61. kingdom, refers to a rank, a rule, or realm and Terrain.

  62. A rank is the power to rule then there is the Practical

  63. expression or exercise of rule. There is the territory and the

  64. people over which the rule is exerted.

  65. And finally, there is the time when that power has been given

  66. and the authority is being exercised and expressed.

  67. Now the phrase kingdom of God or it's alternative in Matthew's

  68. gospel Kingdom of Heaven. Furs in the Old Testament to the

  69. rank rule realm and reign of God himself.

  70. God, because he is, God has the Supreme right to rule over the

  71. Earth. He created it for his own.

  72. Pleasure says, the fourth chapter of the Book of

  73. Revelation. It was made according to his

  74. will and it exists. Rightly only, according to his

  75. purposes, he rules over the universe by his decrees, which

  76. brings certain things infallibility to pass.

  77. And by his Revelations, which inform his intelligent

  78. creatures, what he wants them to do and by his permissions, which

  79. Grant certain creatures, the ability to do things, according

  80. to their own will, some of which are actually contrary to his

  81. revelation. His realm is the whole universe

  82. spiritual and material visible and invisible, and his Reign is

  83. without beginning, or end from Everlasting to Everlasting.

  84. In the New Testament, these phrases find a new meaning, cast

  85. around the person and work of Jesus Christ.

  86. Jesus has received the Kingdom from the father and he has a

  87. rank. And a rule and a realm and a

  88. reign of his own. His rank was given to him by God

  89. the Father his rule also consists of his own decrees and

  90. permissions and Revelations. His realm is the whole universe

  91. material and physical and visible and invisible.

  92. His Reign had a beginning and there will come a time when it

  93. concludes what it accomplishes its purposes.

  94. Now, it's vital here to remember the Bible story.

  95. Last evening, I suggested that we could break the Bible story

  96. down into four related sections creation, corruption, correction

  97. and completion in the first section creation.

  98. God made the universe. So that he might rule over it

  99. and receive glory in and through it.

  100. And then, in the midst of the universe, he created Earth to be

  101. his Temple and on the earth, he placed a garden called Eden in

  102. which he would dwell and he filled that temple with humans

  103. or at least that was his intention.

  104. He put humans as priests within the temple.

  105. Ministers of the sanctuary. Who would there be his image

  106. bearers and Tate, the spread of his knowledge and Glory

  107. throughout the world. At this point, everything was

  108. very good because it was operating all precisely.

  109. According to the rule of God, God spoke and it was so, and it

  110. was good. The kingdom of God was intact

  111. and in order, however, in the second stage of the Bible story,

  112. the corruption things change significantly.

  113. And for the worse, Humanity was led by Satan to rebel against

  114. God. God's rule was abandoned in his

  115. kingdom, became broken and disorderly.

  116. Things were no longer the way that God wanted them to be and

  117. all kinds of problems and evils began to permeate the universe

  118. to its deepest and most fundamental parts.

  119. And in the midst of God's realm a new rival, Kingdom was

  120. established seeking to wrench more and more power away from

  121. the Creator. This was the kingdom of Satan or

  122. the kingdom of darkness as the scripture also calls it.

  123. Now, at this moment, God might have destroyed the universe and

  124. it would have been a very reasonable thing for him to do,

  125. because it was no longer accomplishing the purpose for

  126. which he created it, but instead he began the third section of

  127. the Bible story, The correction and here, Gob set in motion a

  128. plan to restore and redeem creation to put down the

  129. rebellion and to destroy Satan. And his kingdom, and bring

  130. everything back to his stage of goodness.

  131. Once More by reclaiming, it under his Rule.

  132. Now we should note that Jesus was present from the very

  133. beginning of this story. The Bible tells us and passages

  134. like John chapter 1 and Colossians chapter 1, that all

John 1 chapter mention Colossians 1 chapter mention

  135. things were created through him. And without him nothing was

  136. made, that was made by his word and his power.

  137. All things came into existence and found their order and

  138. structure and purpose and stability.

  139. But Jesus Takes center stage in the correction narrative and

  140. Here, we learn that God's Eternal plan was to give his

  141. kingdom over to Jesus because Jesus was going to accomplish

  142. some important works. That would ultimately result in

  143. what the Bible calls the restoration of all things.

  144. Acts chapter 3 and verse 21. That's very important to

    Acts 3 chapter mention

  145. understand that the work of Christ is not merely a work of

  146. salvation. Sometimes I think people limit

  147. it to that exclusively but Jesus is not merely a savior, the work

  148. of Christ is a work of restoration and in restoring

  149. creation back to God's purpose. Jesus will indeed save.

  150. What can be saved? But he will also destroy what

  151. cannot be saved. John the Baptist said that

  152. Messiah would come with spirit and with fire with blessings,

  153. but also with judgment those who Jesus saves and restores to the

  154. kingdom are gathered together as the redeemed people of God,

  155. called The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  156. Finally beginning, to accomplish all that God intended Humanity

  157. to accomplish from the start. When the Bible story ends, in

  158. the last section of completion, we see a glorious vision of what

  159. it will look like when Jesus accomplishes.

  160. All that God intended in the universe, the story is essential

  161. to appreciating some of the things that we're going to

  162. consider. Today, I want to begin with

  163. three questions, which will explain the establishment of the

  164. kingdom of God. How did?

  165. Jesus receive his rank. When did the Reign of Jesus?

  166. Begin. And how is the rule of Jesus

  167. expressed. If we answer all three of these

  168. questions will know, a great deal of significant information

  169. about the Bible story and especially about this Kingdom

  170. concept. Now, you'll note that when I ask

  171. these questions I'm putting them all in the past tense and sort

  172. of revealing to you. You that I understand these

  173. things have already happened. Of course.

  174. There are many people in the world who would insist that none

  175. of these things have happened and they put them off into a

  176. future stage. Even after the second coming of

  177. Jesus, as we consider the Bible answers to these three

  178. questions. However, I think that we'll see

  179. very plainly that a futuristic understanding of the kingdom of

  180. Christ. Cannot be supported by

  181. scripture. The Bible is very plain in

  182. explaining how Jesus received his rank that is his right or

  183. his authority to rule, it was given to him by the father.

  184. Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, all authority has been given to me

    Matthew 28:18

  185. in heaven and on Earth, of course, Jesus said this after

  186. his death and his resurrection, and I believe that the Bible

  187. teaches it was because of his death and his resurrection.

  188. Direction that he received this Authority.

  189. The Authority was a reward conditioned on his victory, over

  190. Satan and sin and the curses of sin chiefly among them death and

  191. this victory was accomplished by the cross.

  192. And the resurrection of course foundational to this work was

  193. Jesus coming to Earth and being incarnate in the form of a man.

  194. During his time on Earth. Jesus could say the kingdom of

  195. God is in your midst. The kingdom of God has come upon

  196. you because in him, the kingdom was inaugurated already.

  197. Its presence was already underway, but it was not merely

  198. his life, but his death, which established the kingdom, fully

  199. and provided, the means for Rebels for Sinners and the

  200. kingdom of Satan to be pardoned. And Got back into the kingdom of

  201. God in Matthew chapter 16 and verse 18.

    Matthew 16 chapter mention

  202. Jesus famously told, his Apostles, that death would not

  203. stop him, from establishing his congregation, his church, and

  204. creating a people for himself in the world.

  205. That little did Satan know that. It was actually through Jesus

  206. death, that he would establish it and would defeat death and

  207. sin. As the Bible says in Hebrews

    Hebrews 2:14

  208. chapter 2, Verses 14 and 15, he defeated death in his own death

  209. because after he died, he rose again to life Everlasting and he

  210. manifests his resurrection by many convincing proofs.

  211. And then the Bible says that Jesus ascended back to heaven.

  212. And in his Ascension, the scripture tells us that he led a

  213. host of captives in his train that unusual statement.

  214. Found in Psalm 68 verse 18, but it's quoted in Ephesians 4:8 and

    Psalms 68:18 Ephesians 4:8

  215. the Apostle Paul applies it. To the Ascension of Jesus

  216. Christ. It refers to Jesus, taking the

  217. defeated devil and the evil spirits and demons and making a

  218. spectacle of them before the Holy Angels.

  219. And before God himself, as he vanished from the side of the

  220. Apostles, on the The other side of the clouds.

  221. The scripture says he was joined by an innumerable company of

  222. Angels, the heavenly host in all of its glory and fullness and

  223. they March together with him in a victory Triumph.

  224. And behind him in Chains where the old agitators and enemies of

  225. God's kingdom, Satan, and all of his spiritual forces and powers,

  226. and they were LED in this Victorious.

  227. Aid through the Gates of Heaven into the very presence of God

  228. the father in Daniel chapter 7 verses 13 through 14.

    Daniel 7:13–14

  229. The Bible tells us what happens next.

  230. Daniel was caught up into the dwelling place of God and he was

  231. given a vision from the Heavenly perspective.

  232. He says I kept looking in the night visions and behold with

  233. the Clouds Of Heaven one. Like the son of man was coming

  234. now sometimes when he read a passage that talks Talks about

  235. the son of man coming with the Clouds Of Heaven.

  236. We might be intuitive to think it's talking about him.

  237. Coming back to Earth the second time, that's not the case here.

  238. Remember that? Daniel is viewing this scene

  239. from up there, he's seeing Jesus, coming with the Clouds Of

  240. Heaven up. There he is.

  241. Coming up to the Ancient of Days, to the throne of God, the

  242. father. And he was presented before him

  243. and to Was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all

  244. the peoples and Nations and Men of every language might serve

  245. him. His Dominion is an everlasting

  246. Dominion, which will not pass away.

  247. And his kingdom is one, which will not be destroyed.

  248. The writers of the New Testament, describe this in

  249. several different ways. Mark, 16:19 simply says he was

  250. received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God in

  251. Acts 2 verse 34, Peter quoting. From Psalm, 110 says that When

    Acts 2:34

  252. Jesus ascended, the Lord said to my Lord, that is God, the father

  253. told Jesus sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a

  254. footstool for your feet. How do you remember what that

  255. phrase means? Some of you weren't here last

  256. evening, but last evening, we discovered that that expression

  257. of footstool for your feet Was an old poetic way of describing

  258. enemies being subjugated and brought under the power of the

  259. rule of a king, sometimes by being utterly destroyed, and

  260. sometimes by being made his Slaves by being forcibly pulled

  261. out of the state of rebellion and Independence in which they

  262. once lived. And now brought under his power.

  263. God the father said, sit at my right hand until I make all your

  264. enemies a footstool for your feet.

  265. And Peter interpreted this to mean that God had given the

  266. Throne of his father David to Jesus.

  267. That's what he says in Acts chapter 2 and verse 30.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  268. He gave him that Throne not on Earth but over the Earth in

  269. heaven, it was not a chair. It was a position of authority

  270. in the Nation of God's old Covenant promises to Israel long

  271. before in Philippians 2:5-11. Paul says that Jesus could have

    Philippians 2:5–11

  272. claimed the right to rule over the whole universe by his own

  273. nature because he had equality with the father.

  274. But in the interests of God's plan, he did not, he humbled

  275. himself and he became a man. He was obedient to the father's

  276. purposes even to the point of Of death on the cross.

  277. And for this reason also God highly exalted him and bestowed

  278. on him the name which is above every name.

  279. So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow of those who

  280. are in heaven and on the earth and under the Earth and that

  281. every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the

  282. glory of God, the father. Now if the rank of Jesus was

  283. given to him on the basis of the Read that he won by his death

  284. and Resurrection. Then he has that right now

  285. because he has accomplished that work.

  286. So the reign of Jesus Christ which begins when the rank is

  287. received, has already begun. We know that this is true

  288. because all of the language that we have just read about sitting

  289. down on a throne at God's right hand and being given a kingdom

  290. and given dominion and being highly.

  291. Exalted over all peoples and receiving a name that is above

  292. every name. Well, this is coordination

  293. language. It's the language of the

  294. official installment of a king and the Bible says that all of

  295. that happened when Jesus ascended and returned to Heaven,

  296. two, thousand years ago. If there was any doubt, Jesus,

  297. demonstrated, what had taken place in Heaven by wonderful

  298. signs on the Earth? Do in particular, the baptism in

  299. the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost and the destruction of

  300. Jerusalem in ad 70. I believe that when John the

  301. baptizer said that Messiah would come and he would baptize in the

  302. spirit and in fire, that fire was specifically a reference to

  303. God's judgment against Jerusalem.

  304. This was the great and terrible day of the Lord that had been

  305. foretold by the prophet Joel in Joel chapter 2.

    Joel 2 chapter mention

  306. ER, to the baptism in the spirit, symbolized, all the

  307. blessings that God gives to those who are redeemed into the

  308. kingdom, and the destruction of Jerusalem, symbolize the

  309. Judgment against those who reject the Messiah by the

  310. removal of old Israel, and their replacement with the true

  311. spiritual Israel, the New Jerusalem, which had come down

  312. from heaven, the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  313. And if we have ears to hear and eyes to see, These things were

  314. designed by God and they were laid out on the landscape of

  315. History to show us incontrovertibly indisputably

  316. unequivocally that Jesus Christ has become king and he is

  317. raining. Now, now, there's one more

  318. question. Along this line that we need to

  319. answer. How is the rule of Christ

  320. expressed It's one thing to say that Jesus is King, but it's not

  321. much of a kingdom. If the king cannot express his

  322. will and express our expect the people to obey it.

  323. If I told you that I was the king of Madagascar, but nobody

  324. in Madagascar. Knows it.

  325. I've never been there. I've never met any of them.

  326. They've never heard of me. They've never heard anything

  327. that I've said, but I'm the king of Madagascar.

  328. You'd say yes. Some King.

  329. Not very impressive. So, how can Jesus be the king of

  330. the universe if Jesus is in heaven, and his people are on

  331. earth? I don't know how Jesus rules

  332. over angels. I know that he does the Bible

  333. says that God has placed the Angels under his feet.

  334. I don't know how Jesus exercises his authority over the sainted

  335. dead. I know that he does because

  336. Jesus said that Abraham and Isaac.

  337. And Jacob and all those Noble, faithful men, and women of God

  338. from the ages past. Said in the Kingdom of the

  339. Messiah. I don't know how Jesus

  340. exercises, his rule over infants, but I know that he does

  341. because Jesus said of such, is the Kingdom of Heaven.

  342. I don't know how Jesus exercises, his rule, over the

  343. lower creation, centipedes, and rhinoceroses and giraffes and

  344. octopuses are however, the you say the plural of that, and

  345. Those and volcanoes and black holes and how does Jesus keep

  346. all that going the way that it should?

  347. Well, I don't know that the Bible affirms his authority over

  348. all those things but it doesn't seem to be that interested in

  349. it. It doesn't explain it, it simply

  350. affirms it, but the Bible does answer this question.

  351. How does Jesus rule over the church?

  352. That's an important question to answer.

  353. Jesus, when he prophesied the establishment of the church in

  354. Matthew. 16:18 then said in verse 19 to the Apostle, Peter,

    Matthew 16:18

  355. I will give to you the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and

  356. whatever you bind on Earth will have been bound in heaven and

  357. whatever you loose on Earth will have been loosed in heaven.

  358. This language about Keys is an Old Testament prophetic image.

  359. For stewardship and authority. Jesus was making Peter the

  360. custodian. Over the kingdom, he would be

  361. gone. Someone would have to take care

  362. of it in his absence, and it would be the Apostle.

  363. Peter, he would become the mouthpiece of Jesus Christ in

  364. the world. And Jesus would communicate his

  365. authority to the church through Peter.

  366. Now, that promise which was initially given to Peter is

  367. extended to the whole College of the Apostles in John 14 verses

    John 14:16–21

  368. 16 through 21 and 26, John 16 verse Verses 7 through 15 and

  369. John 20 verses 22 to 23. And the promise was fulfilled on

    John 20:22–23

  370. the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came to them as a

  371. Helper and began to work in them.

  372. And those to whom they gave the gifts of the Spirit until they

  373. had received and delivered the complete body of the testimony

  374. and teaching that constitutes, the will of King Jesus and

  375. deposited it in the Holy scriptures so that it Be present

  376. for all believers in all ages, throughout all time.

  377. And thus, those who would be servants and subjects of King

  378. Jesus today. No, and obey his rule by

  379. continuing steadfastly in the apostles teaching.

  380. That's what the Bible says. In Acts chapter 2, Jesus was

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  381. already gone from the Earth but his kingdom was proclaimed.

  382. And people said, what should we do?

  383. And when they were pardoned and brought into his kingdom, they

  384. continued steadfastly in the apostles teaching Acts 2 and

  385. verse 42 says. Now, what this means is that,

  386. there is no reason why Jesus should not be understood as

  387. ruling and reigning. Now, his Reign was inaugurated

  388. at his Ascension. His rule is expressed in the

  389. teaching of the Apostles. Apostles, which is now given to

  390. us and the New Covenant scripture and in its

  391. interpretation and application of the old Covenant scripture

  392. and with all of this considered It's very common for someone to

  393. object and say, well, if this is the reign of Christ, it isn't

  394. very impressive. I mean, just look at the

  395. condition of the world, but there's much we could say about

  396. that. And perhaps, as the meeting

  397. continues, will say more, but I think that the most important

  398. response to that objection is to remember that the reign of Jesus

  399. Christ is not the completion stage of the Bible story.

  400. The reign of Jesus Christ is the ultimate manifestation of God's

  401. purpose in the correction stage. The reign of Jesus Christ is

  402. about fixing the broken world. That's the very reason that it's

  403. happening. That's the reason it was

  404. inaugurated to begin with. It's true that right now,

  405. everything is not yet the way that it should be, but because

  406. of the reign of Jesus Christ, the power of God is now present

  407. in the world for everything to get there in time.

  408. So that brings us to our next question.

  409. How is the kingdom of God practically manifest in our

  410. lives? And in the lives of our families

  411. and our communities and in Nations and all over the world?

  412. How should we expect to see it increasing and progressing?

  413. I believe that the Bible teaches the kingdom of God in Christ is

  414. Manifest and grows in four ways. I remember when I talked about

  415. the kingdom of God in Christ, I'm not only talking about the

  416. institution of the church, that's part of this thing.

  417. We're discussing, that's a society that is formed and

  418. created through the work that Christ is doing.

  419. But I'm talking about the rank and Rule and realm and rain.

  420. Reign of Jesus in all of its fullness.

  421. How does that grow? How does it go?

  422. How do we see it in the world? First, we see it through the

  423. conversion of the Lost second. We see it through the

  424. transformation of the saved into the image of Jesus third.

  425. We see it through the unification of Believers and

  426. forth. We see it through the increase

  427. of the knowledge of God. God, the education of humanity

  428. to a better grasp of who God is and what God has done and what

  429. God is doing and what God wills. And as these four things

  430. increase, then the church increases and the kingdom of

  431. God, fills the Earth, more and more and more, where these

  432. things are not present. The kingdom of God is Not.

  433. Not yet present. That has the potential to be

  434. there. It's been inaugurated, but it's

  435. not there yet until these things happen in history, the

  436. conversion of the Lost involves the preaching of the Gospel that

  437. is the proclamation of God's work.

  438. In ancient Israel, culminating in the Incarnation of Jesus

  439. Christ, and his death and burial, and resurrection and

  440. Ascension and glorious reign. Faith in Jesus, which were going

  441. to talk about tomorrow night submission to Jesus through some

  442. repentance and baptism resulting in justification by the pardon

  443. of our sins. This is how one who was

  444. previously, a rebel against God in the Kingdom of Satan, or of

  445. darkness is taken out of that condition in the Bible says in

  446. Colossians chapter 1, verses 13 and 14 translated out of the

    Colossians 1:13

  447. kingdom of darkness and And into the kingdom of the son of God's

  448. love. Now the transformation of the

  449. saved into the image of Christ is also necessary.

  450. It's not enough for God to Simply forgive Sinners, just

  451. pardoning criminals. Does not restore his rule over

  452. the Earth, they're going to have to change from criminals into

  453. law-abiding, citizens from centers into something.

  454. Greater something that obeys God's Commandments.

  455. That's why they need to be transformed into the image of

  456. Jesus. God created Humanity to be his

  457. image Bearer. There was never anyone on Earth

  458. who was more perfectly the image bearer of God, then Jesus

  459. Christ, he is the express image of the invisible.

  460. God, the Bible says and thus, we find our purpose in him.

  461. We find the Fulfillment of the real reason we were made by our

  462. Conformity Into His Image by are following his pattern by are

  463. imitating, him more and more. And this is a painful and

  464. lifelong process. The Apostle Paul calls it being

  465. led by the spirit of God and that doesn't sound too bad, but

  466. then he goes on to discuss that being led by the spirit of God.

  467. Involves the person, you used to be dying.

  468. And not dying easily, not dying in his sleep, but being

  469. crucified mortified, put to death, you take the old

  470. character, the old lifestyle, the old Ambitions, and loves,

  471. and wishes, and dreams, and hopes.

  472. Those that had bound you to Satan and made you part of his

  473. kingdom, and you kill those things.

  474. So that when they die a new life can be formed a life.

  475. In the likeness of Jesus as the flesh.

  476. No longer is the guiding principle of life.

  477. It is replaced by the spirit, which has been LED and filled

  478. and directed and educated. By the holy spirit of God,

  479. through the teaching of the word of God.

  480. And over, the course of many years, a radical change takes

  481. place. And one who was like, Satan,

  482. Begins to resemble Jesus and each time a growth a movement

  483. forward takes place. The kingdom of God is more

  484. abundantly present in this world.

  485. Then we have the unity of Believers, the unity of

  486. Believers refers to the increasing Oneness of heart and

  487. mind, and the supernatural christ-like.

  488. Love that binds. All of Jesus followers together

  489. into a great worldwide Brotherhood.

  490. By their growing apprehension of christ-like character.

  491. And the truth of Christ is revealed in the apostles

  492. teaching. When you become more like Jesus,

  493. you grow closer to others who are doing the same and something

  494. amazing begins to happen. Old enemies.

  495. Begin to be brothers and sisters, the oppressor and the

  496. oppressed embrace one, another and love one another and they

  497. take their swords and they beat them into plowshares and their

  498. Spears, and they beat them into pruning hooks because they've

  499. changed and they're going to study war.

  500. No more. That's what the Bible says

  501. happens in this world. When the kingdom of God comes to

  502. it. It and finally the knowledge of

  503. God refers to the understanding of God's self-revelation which

  504. results in a fuller grasp of his glory and majesty and a greater

  505. strength to triumph over the lies of the devil.

  506. It is the result of Bible study and teaching and participation

  507. and worship and all aspects of the life of the church, which

  508. God has designed for the edification of his people.

  509. Now, you'll note that each of these Four principles are

  510. mutually, codependent and supportive of one.

  511. Another, in fact, in reality, one cannot occur without the

  512. others and one necessarily leads to the others.

  513. You cannot turn to God, really. Without being transformed into

  514. the image of Christ, you cannot be transformed into the image of

  515. Christ without growing in love, for others who are experiencing

  516. the same. You cannot be transformed

  517. without growing in the Ruth, the knowledge of the truth and will

  518. of Christ. And so these things all flow

  519. together in one great, glorious Direction toward one ultimate

  520. end. Jesus is making a redeemed.

  521. People in this world right now. By these principles, he is

  522. redeeming you and me, and all of us by these principles.

  523. And when he is finished, he will take his people now converted

  524. transformed unified and enlightened, and he willfully

  525. deliver them from the curse by giving them immortality in the

  526. resurrection and utterly purging from the universe, all the

  527. remaining vestiges of rebellion and satanic influence.

  528. And then the Bible says, he will give that rescued.

  529. Creation over to God, the Father for his eternal glory.

  530. So that God, may be all in all. That is the kingdom of God,

  531. that's how the kingdom of God, comes and grows and increases.

  532. Now in Matthew 6:10 and Luke chapter 11 verse 2.

    Matthew 6:10 Luke 11:2

  533. Jesus taught his disciples that when they pray.

  534. Are you one of his disciples then I should change that?

  535. Shouldn't I should say when we pray, we should pray and open

  536. our prayers with the petition to this effect.

  537. Your kingdom, come. This is God's purpose and Jesus

  538. wants it to become our purpose as well and because God has made

  539. us as his priests in this world he has made us with a tremendous

  540. intercessory power. Where our petitions to him help

  541. to bring his will to pass in the world.

  542. And so Jesus said, all of this can only happen.

  543. If it begins to dominate our cries to God, the Father,

  544. Father, your kingdom, come before you ask anything for

  545. yourself before you say, give us this day, our daily bread and

  546. forgive us of our sins and do not lead us into temptation

  547. before you say anything about that.

  548. Pray first for God's purpose to be accomplished your kingdom

  549. come. Now, some people who have seen

  550. the problems with the idea that the reign of Christ is Future

  551. and will not begin until his second coming.

  552. We know that, that cannot be true.

  553. We know that Christ is raining now.

  554. So some people who have seen that have I think mistakenly

  555. concluded that this prayer is no longer appropriate for Christ.

  556. People, I've heard people preach that all of my life. in fact, I

  557. think I've preached that before, They suppose that when Jesus

  558. said these words, when you pray, pray your kingdom.

  559. Come that. All he meant was that the

  560. disciples should pray for the establishment of the Kingdom

  561. through his death. Resurrection Ascension, and the

  562. outpouring of the spirit. Now, if that was all that Jesus

  563. meant, I would agree that we should no longer be asking for

  564. that to happen. I'm not in the habit of praying

  565. for the Virgin birth. To take place because it already

  566. took place and I don't expect that.

  567. It should ever happen again. And if Jesus meant pray for the

  568. day of Pentecost, pray for my crucifixion and resurrection and

  569. Ascension into Glory. If that's what he meant then we

  570. ought not to pray that anymore. But I don't believe that's what

  571. Jesus meant. This example, prayer, first of

  572. all is given in the midst of The Sermon, on the Mount, which was

  573. designed to teach how we should live within his kingdom.

  574. Not how people should live in the Old Testament, to prepare

  575. for his kingdom. And most importantly, it is

  576. given in the style of Hebrew poetry now, some of us might not

  577. know much about Hebrew poetry. Some of us might not know much

  578. about any delish poetry and it can be a little difficult to

  579. understand sometimes, but in Hebrew poetry, the chief

  580. characteristic of Hebrew poetry is a structure called

  581. parallelism. Now depending on what printing

  582. of the Bible you use, you will note that in certain parts of

  583. the Bible. When a poem is being recorded,

  584. you will see the Lions or sort of staggered like this into two

  585. verse sets. And that's how, you know, I'm

  586. reading a poem here, I'm not reading Pros.

  587. Now, the two verse sets are coupled together and they work

  588. together to get the message across by relating to one

  589. another somehow, the first verse said, and the second verse set

  590. are parallel in some respects sometimes, they mean the same

  591. thing. The first and the second are

  592. just two ways of saying the same thing.

  593. Sometimes the second verse set is the opposite of the first

  594. verse set. Sometimes the second verse set

  595. completes the idea of the first four set.

  596. The Beatitudes are written this way.

  597. Blessed are the poor in spirit. Why for theirs is the Kingdom of

  598. Heaven. You say the second verse set,

  599. explains the first one. But the most common form of

  600. parallelism in Hebrew. Poetry is when they both

  601. basically mean the same thing. The second percent simply

  602. repeats the idea of the First with greater Clarity, it

  603. amplifies, it and explains it. Such is the case in Matthew 6,

  604. and verse 10, when Jesus says that we ought always to pray

  605. your kingdom, come, he explains that he does not mean pray for

  606. the day of Pentecost to happen. He means pray your will be done

  607. on Earth as it is in heaven. That's how the kingdom comes.

  608. That's what it means for the kingdom of God, to be really

  609. present in this world. Not just for Jesus to be

  610. enthroned in glory, but for people on earth, To submit

  611. themselves to his Rule and to live out, his will on Earth as

  612. it is in heaven. Rather Steve's prayer was

  613. beautiful. I love to hear him pray and he

  614. painted for us, a very graphic picture of the disparity between

  615. Earth and Heaven. but the purpose of the kingdom of God is

  616. to bring Heaven to Earth, That is its purpose and it happens

  617. through the conversion of the lost, the transformation of the

  618. saved, into the image of Jesus Christ, the unification of

  619. Believers, and the increase of the knowledge of God, Jesus is

  620. Calling on us to pray for the increase of the Kingdom to its

  621. completion. And that work remains to be done

  622. in my life. And in yours and in all the

  623. world, how does the kingdom of God in Christ?

  624. Come by the rebellious World, being conquered and reclaimed by

  625. Jesus Through The Gospel and thus restored to the rule of

  626. God. This is God's will and he would

  627. have it become our will also
