  1. Well, good morning. Everyone is a wonderful day to

  2. be here. It's good to see you all today.

  3. We're thankful to have the chance to come together to as we

  4. said no multiple times to magnify God together and we'll

  5. Circle back around to that idea today.

  6. But that should be our goal. Whenever we come to worship that

  7. everything else will get smaller in relation to An Almighty God,

  8. that deserves the praise and focus that we make our goal to

  9. do today to bring our Focus to him and we're going to do that

  10. partially today by studying and Hebrews.

  11. It's chapter 12. We should finish the chapter

  12. today. So, this is kind of second half

  13. of about last time I spoke was on the first half of Hebrews,

    Hebrews 12 chapter mention

  14. chapter 12, and we're gonna continue on their roughly in

  15. verse 18. So, I had to stop in the middle

  16. of a whole flow of thought because of the next section was

  17. going to take a little bit. So we're right in the middle of

  18. Hebrews chapter, 12 this morning and just to get a little

  19. momentum back from where we left off.

  20. He had been talking about the importance of them,

  21. understanding, how God could Chasin, correct, and guide them

  22. in their faith. Now, they might have

  23. difficulties, they might have pains.

  24. It seemed until this in verse 11, it tells me that they were

  25. going to be trained and training.

  26. Involves difficult hard things where you are corrected in

  27. their, in their faith and Hebrew specifically, they were

  28. drifting, they were forgetting the things he said.

  29. Tells them they were starting to slip away and part of their

  30. correction was that they needed to be very focused and centered

  31. on the god that they serve. And what is plan now says and

  32. that's going to be kind of a theme as we run into these next

  33. verses but after telling them the importance of handling God's

  34. correction in the right way, he says, therefore because you need

  35. to handle God's correction like a true son.

  36. A true. Son is discipline by Father,

  37. therefore strengthen the hands which hang down and the feeble

  38. knees, the people who are weak around you, the Brethren their

  39. week around you, strengthen them down there, strengthen them up

  40. and help make straight paths for your feet.

  41. So that what is lame, may not be dislocated.

  42. We don't need any members of the body dislocated, but we want

  43. everyone to be healed, pursue peace with all people and

  44. Holiness without, which no one will see the Lord.

  45. Verse 15 looking carefully, lest anyone falls short of the grace

  46. of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up cause

  47. trouble? And by this many become defiled

  48. lest there, be any fornicator or profane person remember profane

  49. was something that is common East Side was a common man.

  50. Why? Because he saw the promises of

  51. God. And he for one morsel of food,

  52. for one little bit of fleshly satisfaction sold his Birthright

  53. for, you know, that afterward when he To inherit the blessing,

  54. the blessing from his father Isaac.

  55. He was rejected for, he found no place for repentance though.

  56. He sought it diligently with tears.

  57. And the point we made last week was that Esau gave up his

  58. Birthright, and we need to be careful.

  59. Not to give up our spiritual birth, right?

  60. Our Hope Of Heaven. So leading into Hebrews chapter

    Hebrews 12:18

  61. 12, verse 18, so we need to be careful of this for you have Not

  62. come to the mountain. That may be touched and that

  63. burned with fire and to Blackness and darkness and a

  64. tempest. So everything we've led up to

  65. the fact that they need to leave, but they need to not

  66. leave behind their faith in their hope.

  67. And Jesus, the fact that they need to not leave behind

  68. everything they've learned is because they want to serve the

  69. god, that they have come to know and they want to go back to the

  70. Old Testament. The Old Testament was worried

  71. about this situation. When Moses went up, Mount Sinai

  72. and word god, met them on the mountain.

  73. It was a scary sight but he's telling them, it's not like it

  74. used to be, that's not the god that you're coming too right

  75. now, it's the same God but it's not the situation that we are

  76. meeting him out for you have not come to this mountain that

  77. burned with fire in a Blackness and darkness and a tempest and

  78. the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those

  79. who heard it begged, that the word should not be spoken to

  80. them anymore. He says this isn't This isn't

  81. the situation you're coming to for, they could not endure.

  82. What was commanded these people in the Old Testament and it was

  83. told them was if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it

  84. shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.

  85. Okay. If you're jumping into this and

  86. you've never read this then like this might sound a little weird

  87. but stay with it. And so terrifying was the site.

  88. This presence of God were God met the mountain and he just he

  89. set a boundary says don't come here as his serious.

  90. It was so terrifying that Moses said I'm exceedingly afraid and

  91. trembling Moses was was, the was the go-between, he was the one

  92. who was a, he was a faithful follower of God and even him,

  93. even he said I'm terrified. So if you're not familiar with

  94. this, let's take a little step back, just to show you Exodus

    Exodus 18:10

  95. chapter 18 verse 10. It says, then the Lord said to

  96. Moses, go to the people and consecrate them today and

  97. tomorrow basically make them ready.

  98. Prepare them set them apart. Part and let them wash their

  99. clothes, the cleansing and let them be ready for the third day

  100. for on the third day. The Lord will come down upon

  101. Mount Sinai in the sight of all people, you shall set bounds for

  102. the people. All around saying, take heed to

  103. yourselves and watch out that. You do not go up to the mountain

  104. or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain

  105. shall be surely, put to death. Not a hand.

  106. Shall touch him, so don't even go out there and get him.

  107. Don't even go out there yourself and retrieve him.

  108. Him. But he shall surely be stoned or

  109. shot with an arrow, whether man or beast.

  110. He shall not live. When the trumpet sounds long,

  111. they shall come near the mountain.

  112. So no just went down for the mountain, to the people, and

  113. sanctify, the people, and they wash their clothes.

  114. And he said to the people be ready for the third day, do not

  115. come near your wives, then it came to pass on the third day in

  116. the morning that there were Thunders and Lightnings and a

  117. thick Cloud on the mountain and the sound of the trumpet was

  118. very loud. So that all the people who are

  119. in the camp trembled and Moses brought the people out of the

  120. camp to meet with God and they stood at the foot of the

  121. mountain. Put yourself in the shoes of

  122. people seeing this happen right now.

  123. Seeing it on Mighty God in the in the way that he chose to meet

  124. them in this instance God has chosen many different ways to

  125. express himself and in this situation it's with power and

  126. with fear Now Mount Sinai was completely in Smoke because the

  127. Lord descended upon it in fire, it's smoke ascended like the

  128. smoke of a furnace and the whole Mountain quaked greatly.

  129. I've never been on a, I've really never even felt an

  130. earthquake, it's kind of crazy living in the state's been

  131. through so many never felt them. I can't imagine being on a

  132. mountain that is shaking and when the blast of the trumpet,

  133. sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke and God

  134. answered him by voice, then the Lord came down.

  135. On upon Mount Sinai on the top of the mountain and the Lord

  136. Called Moses to the top of the mountain and Moses went up.

  137. Now it goes on the same the next chapter.

  138. In all the people witness this, they saw the thunderings, the

  139. Lightning's the flashes, the sound of the trumpet and the

  140. mountain smoking. And when the people saw it, they

  141. trembled. And they stood afar off, they

  142. respected. The danger of it, then they said

  143. to Moses you speak with us and we will hear, but let not God.

  144. Speak with us less, we die and Hebrews.

  145. The Hebrew writer is saying, these people could not handle

  146. it. They were terrified.

  147. They were, they were overwhelmed and Jesus said to the people do

  148. not fear for God, has come to test you and that his fear maybe

  149. before you so that you may not sin. so the people stood afar

  150. off, but Moses Drew near the thick Darkness where God was The

  151. point of what he's saying here. He says, you haven't come to

  152. this. You didn't come to this kind of

  153. mountain. The whole point of Hebrews is

  154. we're taking a step forward. Don't take a step backward to

  155. this mountain, the place that we are coming to is a verse 22, the

  156. grand reveal but you have come to Mount Zion.

  157. Not Mount Sinai did was burning and terrifying.

  158. You've come to Mount, Zion Mount Zion is a symbol of God's

  159. Victory and the place where his people will have.

  160. A meeting with him nouns Island into the city of the Living.

  161. God, the heavenly Jerusalem. They saw Jerusalem as their holy

  162. place. They wanted to go back to

  163. Jerusalem to Judaism. This is all a part is

  164. contrasting, it with what? They want to go back to.

  165. Don't go to Mount Sinai. Don't go to Jerusalem, go to the

  166. Heavenly Mountain, Zion go to the Heavenly Jerusalem, to an

  167. innumerable company of angels, we think were weird, I think.

  168. Supposed to think about what he's already talked about.

  169. In Hebrews right here, we've talked about the powder of

  170. angels. And how one Angel here, and

  171. there did a great thing. He says, you haven't come to one

  172. Angel, who delivered the word or maybe two, who brought a

  173. message, you've come to an innumerable and innumerable

  174. company of angels to the general assembly and the Church of the

  175. firstborn who are registered and Heaven.

  176. To God, the judge of all to the spirits of just men made

  177. perfect. He said the angels that you guys

  178. revered because of their power and even the just men made

  179. perfect who were revered in your past, and your history of

  180. Judaism. All of these people.

  181. If they really walked in faith and they were just men, you're

  182. all coming to the same place. You're not leaving.

  183. The girls of the people before you to move on to the New

  184. Testament, they are coming to melt xylem.

  185. They just came through a physical Jerusalem, you are as

  186. Christians, you're not necessarily going through

  187. Jerusalem anymore. It's not Judaism, but you are

  188. going to the same Mountain, the same place to meet God because

  189. you like them are trying to be just men who God makes perfect

  190. and whole and Jesus Is What Makes Us whole and he is what

  191. saves the people. Evil from the past, as well.

  192. He emphasizes life, he emphasizes that it is a city of

  193. the Living. God, we've talked a lot about

  194. sacrificing death in this letter, but this is a city of

  195. the Living God who brings life to the people.

  196. All of this is part of the same plan, verse 24, you have come to

  197. Jesus, the mediator of the New Covenant, and the blood of

  198. sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

  199. Okay? So there's a couple of things to

  200. point out here. This, this is an interesting

  201. phrase that I had to study quite a bit and we'll we'll dive into

  202. this phrase. What is the blood of Abel speak?

  203. And I think there's two different things we could take

  204. out of this. Some people emphasize one aspect

  205. of this statement and other people emphasize another.

  206. I'm going to share them both with you because I think they

  207. both fit. I think they're both true.

  208. And so which one is emphasizing right here?

  209. You decide they're both true points.

  210. So, when he says that the blood of Jesus speaks better than

  211. things than that of Abel. I think the first thing Thing,

  212. he could be referring to is the blood of Abel's sacrifice.

  213. So we learn from the Old Testament, you have Adam, who is

  214. the first man than he had two sons Cain and Abel.

  215. Cain offered a sacrifice of the field, but Abel offered a

  216. sacrifice in faith of an animal, he sacrificed that animals life.

  217. And so that animal was by, in some ways, one of the first, or

  218. maybe the first sacrifice made, So he was the first man Abel was

  219. born. Into a fallen world where he had

  220. to kill an animal to sacrifice to God.

  221. He was born into this Fallen World, where Adam, his father

  222. had made a mistake that got them kicked out of the garden, but

  223. Abel was in a fallen world. He didn't necessarily have a

  224. response. He wasn't responsible for it.

  225. And it was his responsibility to respond by killing something

  226. that they had previously in the garden.

  227. Had a peaceful relationship with, they didn't have to kill

  228. animals in the garden for sacrifice.

  229. And so this was not the ideal system.

  230. God did not want a place where animals had to die for people's

  231. sins to connect with God. So it was not the ideal system

  232. and it was also an insufficient sacrifice, even the animals that

  233. were brought before God and killed with, with this

  234. sprinkling of blood, they were not sufficient sacrifices.

  235. So where the blood of Abel wasn't so many different ways.

  236. Not the intention of God from the beginning.

  237. Jesus is sacrifice and the blood of Jesus speaks so much greater

  238. things because as Abel. Sacrificed to a world that was

  239. Fallen full of death. Jesus speaks life into a fallen

  240. world where death and sin, had its way.

  241. Jesus brings the life Jesus is sacrificed is to repair a world

  242. that was broken. In the very beginning when man

  243. sinned and was kicked out of the garden, Jesus brought life.

  244. He also fixed an imperfect system.

  245. Jesus ended the need of sacrifice.

  246. That was continuing every year. The fact that Jesus put a stop

  247. to this continual death, is such a blessing and it's brings no,

  248. it speaks to the life that Jesus brought.

  249. And Jesus provided the perfect sacrifice that all those Lambs.

  250. All those Bulls were not perfect.

  251. Jesus brought a perfect sacrifice to fix an imperfect

  252. system. And brought life to a world that

  253. was fallen. So I think in this sense Abel's

  254. sacrifice or Jesus acts of sacrifice is so much greater

  255. than Abel's literal sacrifice that he offered.

  256. Okay, so I think that's one way that this Blood of Abel could

  257. have factored in. So, that fact is true.

  258. Jesus sacrifice is so much greater, but many people

  259. emphasize how Abel's blood himself.

  260. The blood of Abel in, in the fact that his brother killed

  261. him. It's speaks something Jesus

  262. speaks greater than the blood of Abel.

  263. So let's let's dive into that for a minute in Genesis chapter

    Genesis 4 chapter mention

  264. 4. When, when Cain kills Abel, God

  265. says to Cain, what have you done the voice of your brother?

  266. Abel's, blood cries out to me from the ground.

  267. So there's this concept of Abel's blood speaking, something

  268. and crying out, something from the day, and we learn, That

  269. that, that cries, a terrible cry.

  270. And this this idea of people who have died for their faith,

  271. people who have died in faith is carried on Revelation chapter 10

  272. verse 19. It says, when he opened the

  273. fifth seal, this is a lot of symbolic imagery.

  274. We're not going to unpack all this.

  275. But here's what happened. I saw under the altar, The Souls

  276. of those who had been slain for the word of God.

  277. And for the testimony, which they held and they cried aloud

  278. with the loud voice saying, how long O Lord, holy and true until

  279. you judge and avenge Enjoy our blood on those who dwell on the

  280. earth. There's this picture of people

  281. who have died crying out to God, their blood, and their loss

  282. crying out to God, even in heaven, in a white world was

  283. given to each of them. And it was said to them that

  284. they should rest a little while longer until both the number of

  285. their fellow servants and their Brethren who would be killed as

  286. they were was completed. There's going to be a day where

  287. this tragic stuff stops happening.

  288. Okay, but there's this picture of crying out and death.

  289. So the question is okay, if we're talking about Abel's

  290. blood, the Martyr Abel who died because of his brother.

  291. If that's the blood that's crying out, what might that

  292. blood be safe? Number one, I think it cries out

  293. Vengeance and justice for the innocent.

  294. As we talked about in Revelation, how long before this

  295. Justice gets brought all these terrible things that are

  296. happening. How long?

  297. and Abel's blood and Genesis for was crying out from the ground,

  298. and speaks to the wrong that was done and Vengeance needing to be

  299. taken because Of the terrible actor.

  300. So cried out for vengeance and Justice, I believe.

  301. But I also believe it cries out something else, and Hebrews

    Hebrews 4:11

  302. chapter 4, verse 11 verse 4. We've talked about this already

  303. by faith Abel brought to God, brought got a better offering

  304. than Cain by faith. He was commended as

  305. righteousness when God still, when God spoke well of his

  306. offerings and by faith Abel still speaks.

  307. Even those he's dead. So there it is again.

  308. Now, phrase of Abel's blood, Abel's death him.

  309. Still speaking, I think the second thing Abel's blood Cries

  310. Out is righteousness and faithfulness to God despite the

  311. evil of Cain, okay? So if Abel's, blood cries out

  312. for vengeance and cries out for justice against against the

  313. people who have done wrong for the innocent and it cries out

  314. even speaks of righteousness in faithfulness.

  315. Against evil. How does what Jesus did speak

  316. better things than all of this terrible mess.

  317. I believe number one that Jesus blood, Cries Out, mercy and

  318. forgiveness. Where Vengeance would normally

  319. take place? Because really, we all deserve

  320. Vengeance and we all deserve justice against us.

  321. Now, would not work well for us of Justice were to happen

  322. because Justice would convict us of wrong.

  323. It would find us guilty. We learned that all have sinned

  324. and fallen short of the glory of God.

  325. Whether we realize it this morning, we're there.

  326. We care that much about it. Whether you're sitting in your

  327. seat today and you care about that fact or not.

  328. It's true. You are guilty.

  329. I am guilty. So we don't want Justice even

  330. though it might take care of her things wrongs, we've seen done,

  331. it would take care of us, just as bad.

  332. So Jesus is blood speaks so much greater things because it cries

  333. out, mercy and forgiveness. Even in the situation of Abel, I

  334. was talking to somebody this week, you know, can you be

  335. forgiven for murder? while yes Vengeance know the

  336. legal system needs to do, what it does, God can forgive that,

  337. God can forgive And we should be so thankful for that Jesus blood

  338. speaks so much greater things than even the Vengeance though.

  339. It might be sweet as necessary. So Jesus blood is Chris speaks,

  340. Greek speaks better things, concerning righteousness and

  341. faithfulness, because even though able was good, even

  342. though he was faithful to God, That alone is not going to save

  343. him. Jesus blood speaks greater

  344. things because that cries out, salvation and righteousness.

  345. In a way that enables goodness. Abel's.

  346. Faithfulness, never could have brought for himself.

  347. So this verse to Jesus, the mediator of a New Covenant and

  348. to the blood of sprinkling, Jesus is blood of sprinkling

  349. that speaks so much better things than that of Abel, no

  350. matter at what angle you want to.

  351. Look at this app. Jesus blood speaks so much

  352. greater things than the sacrifices that have been made

  353. or even the blood that cries out from the ground.

  354. Okay, verse 25, see that you do not refuse him who speaks for if

  355. they did not Escape, who spoke, if they did not reach me,

  356. starting it. If they did not Escape, who

  357. refused him, who spoke on Earth. Much more, shall we not Escape

  358. if we turn away from him, who speaks from Heaven, and the Old

  359. Testament? They were spoken through

  360. prophets, we learned in the earlier, in this book.

  361. How God spoke to them in many ways from Earth, and from

  362. profits. So with, they did not Escape.

  363. Ape. Who refused him.

  364. Who spoke on Earth? Thank Moses in the wilderness.

  365. The people who rebelled against Moses, the ground opened up and

  366. swallowed them. They did not escape the sons of

  367. Korah. So if they did not Escape, how

  368. shall we escape Us in the New Testament age?

  369. If we turn away from him, who speaks from Heaven, Jesus came

  370. down to earth and spoke to us on Earth.

  371. And now, his call continues from Heaven, if you and I do.

  372. Do not accept that and follow that today.

  373. Do we really think we're going to have a chance to get away in

  374. the judgment? Now this is a dark picture but

  375. it's only dark. If you stay here, the other side

  376. is beautiful, but this is truth. This is love to tell everyone to

  377. tell ourselves we will not Escape judgment if we do not

  378. cling to Jesus, and if we do not cling to the new law that saves

  379. us, Because he's speaking from Heaven, whose voice, then shook

  380. the Earth. But now he has promised saying,

  381. yet once more, I shake not only the Earth, but also heaven So

  382. this is referring to again from chapter 19 at tallest the

  383. mountain quaked greatly. So, if the mountain quaked, he

  384. says His voice then shook the Earth.

  385. But now he has promised saying, yet once more, I shake not only

  386. the Earth, but Heaven also. Now this yet once more indicates

  387. the removal of things that are being shaken, as of things that

  388. are made that the things which cannot be shaken May remain.

  389. So, what is this? This is a question I had.

  390. What does it mean? Heaven is going to be shaken.

  391. Does that mean the place where God dwells is going to be

  392. affected by this great shake-up of everything?

  393. If you look in haggai, Chapter 2, Verse 6, this is kind of the

    Haggai 2:6

  394. connection. This, this quote here is being

  395. connected to haggai, chapter 2, verse 6, where it says for thus,

    Haggai 2:6

  396. says, the Lord of hosts. Once more is a little while, I

  397. will shake heaven and earth the Sea, and the dry land.

  398. And I will shake All Nations, and they shall come to the

  399. desire of all Nations, and I will fill this temple with Glory

  400. says, the Lord of hosts. So this passage for context are

  401. for understanding. What the, what Hebrews is

  402. talking about, this passage is saying Heaven and Earth, the Sea

  403. and the dry land. There's different words for

  404. heaven. This Heaven is talking about the

  405. sky. It's basically saying all

  406. creation is going to be shaken up.

  407. Heaven year of the sea and all dry land.

  408. So, If everything is going to be shaking the ground that you

  409. stand on the ground that you walk on today in the sky, that

  410. you look up to, if all that's going to be shaken, we should

  411. hold on to things that cannot be shaken.

  412. Hold on to Hope. Hold on to faith and promises

  413. because verse 28, therefore, since we are receiving a

  414. kingdom, which cannot be shaken. We are receiving a kingdom.

  415. That cannot be shaken. And these people probably were

  416. shaken in a lot of ways at this point.

  417. Let us have Grace by which we may serve God acceptably with

  418. reverence and godly fear for our God is a consuming fire at this

  419. point, these people who are hearing this letter are either

  420. so dull that they're not hearing God's command in there.

  421. Just inattentive, you know, hearing this letter, maybe there

  422. was being read from the audience and they're sleeping in their

  423. seats. Or if they were taking it to

  424. heart, they were shaken. Their faith was shaken.

  425. By hearing these this wake-up call, maybe they were shaking

  426. because of this great warning and realizing where they were

  427. out, or maybe their faith was shaken before the letter,

  428. whatever the cases, these people were shaken up.

  429. And they need to understand and refocus this whole part of this

  430. section of the letter is refocusing them on a, on a great

  431. God. And this is where I was wanting

  432. to reference that verse in Psalm 34, Verse 3, where the psalmist

    Psalms 34:3

  433. said, o magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name

  434. together. So that we're magnifying, I

  435. always read over it. And then in the songs I read

  436. over it. But magnifying something, if you

  437. take a magnifying glass to it is to make that one thing bigger

  438. than everything else by choice. Relative to the things that are

  439. rounded. So, if I take a magnifying glass

  440. to a bug, I'm choosing to see the details to focus and make

  441. this thing bigger. So I can zoom in on that and

  442. make my field of view more consumed by that thing, as

  443. Christians as humans. Who are living this Human

  444. Experience. We have the choice.

  445. What we're going to focus on. We can exalt God, we can focus

  446. our attention on God and make him bigger, and zoom in to

  447. examine his Lowering in the lift him up or we can choose to let

  448. him slip into the mundane slip into the things that don't

  449. matter in our life. Perspective is such a

  450. fascinating thing. There's a song with the with the

  451. lyrics. It's a o meno, earthborn Cloud

  452. arise to hide thee from thy servants eyes.

  453. The song is saying, I don't want anything from Earth to get in

  454. the way of me seeing you. God to me focusing on you,

  455. because I don't want those things, those Earthly clouds,

  456. those Earthly, whatever can get in our way to hide God from our

  457. own site. We don't want anything to get in

  458. the way of being able to see him because as this picture shows

  459. really, you can put your thumb up to the sun and the Sun goes

  460. away. You cannot see the sun behind

  461. your thumb if you put it at the right angle.

  462. Does that mean the sun is not big?

  463. Does that mean the sun is not powerful?

  464. Does that mean my thumb is bigger than the Sun or that I

  465. can really stop the sun. No it's perspective.

  466. I can let things in my perspective, get in the way of

  467. the greatness. That is there?

  468. It is our job to magnify God and our week coming to church once a

  469. week is not enough to magnify the Lord in our hearts.

  470. He will slip into the details into the mundane if we let it

  471. myself included and this is something I want to work on this

  472. week. Magnifying the Lord however I

  473. can And this is what they needed to be reminded of to focus on

  474. The God Who had this master plan from the beginning because they

  475. were slipping into their view of what God was God was Old

  476. Testament, God was this, God was sacrifices, but God wants to

  477. point them. Back to him and to what he tells

  478. them, their face should be grounded on.

  479. He says let us have Grace because of this, let us have

  480. Grace. Now some people say this means

  481. let us be grateful. Let us show Grace in our hearts

  482. and that's true. We should be grateful because of

  483. that and that will help us serve God acceptably acceptably with

  484. reverence and godly fear. But others emphasize that this.

  485. Let us have Grace means more to let us have and hold on to

  486. Grace, let us clean closely to it.

  487. That we can serve God acceptably with reverence and fear and I

  488. think those are both true. Sometimes it feels like we

  489. cannot serve God acceptably sometimes, you know, our own

  490. insecurities, our own perspective, makes it feel like

  491. we cannot serve God in an acceptable way.

  492. But God tells us that we can serve him acceptably with

  493. reverence and godly fear. So may we may we fight that

  494. desire or that thing that stirs up in our hearts too.

  495. To demean what we can do in the sight of God, we can serve God

  496. acceptably in this life, part of that includes receiving the

  497. kingdom, accepting it, accepting the grace of God, and with

  498. reverence and godly fear serving him.

  499. However, he asks We can serve God acceptably, and it's

  500. important because he is a consuming fire.

  501. He is still the great God of the Old Testament, but he's

  502. revealing himself in this Grand way with Jesus and the Heavenly

  503. Jerusalem and a better Covenant. I'll make one more point on

  504. this. I want to caution us against a

  505. mistake, I have made and that I think sometimes we can fall into

  506. easily in this. I've underlined let us have

  507. Grace Let us hold on to Grace. It is true that we need to

  508. always maintain a balance, understanding Grace's role in

  509. our lives, and our responsibility.

  510. As followers of God, we must both wholeheartedly serve God,

  511. the whole heartedly understand that we cannot earn this.

  512. We cannot deserve this, we cannot able SAG, we cannot do a

  513. righteous Abel, Works enough to save ourselves and I've said in

  514. the past, I've talked about over emphasizing Grace as a problem.

  515. And that comes from a desire to counteract people who D

  516. emphasize the importance of our own efforts in our life, our own

  517. works, you know, because we cannot, we've only been learning

  518. from this letter. We cannot see God without

  519. Holiness, Holiness is following God and living out the fruits of

  520. the spirit. So we cannot leave behind either

  521. Grace or our own role in Walking in the spirit.

  522. And I think sometimes we can say, you know, they focus too

  523. much on Grace or they maybe I should say different.

  524. Sometimes we say they overemphasize Grace but I don't

  525. think Grace can be over emphasized enough.

  526. We just have to make sure there's a good balance.

  527. We have to we can't D emphasize Grace in order to make the

  528. balance, right? We have to emphasize Grace and

  529. emphasize our responsibility as Christians may.

  530. We be careful not to undermine or ever.

  531. Downplay the grace of God because we need it so

  532. desperately and so completely and if we start doing that we

  533. may unintentionally undermine God's grace.

  534. In our own hearts, are in the hearts of others.

  535. This concludes this chapter and I want to just read a section

  536. from Romans chapter 8. This is Drew my attention to

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  537. Romans chapter 8 in the beauties that are conveyed about the

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  538. gospel there in verse 8, it says there is therefore now no

  539. condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk

  540. according to the flesh. But according to the spirit for

  541. the law of the spirit of life in Christ, Jesus has made me free

  542. from the law of sin and death for what the law could not do in

  543. that. It was weak.

  544. The flesh God did by sending his own son in the likeness of

  545. sinful Flesh on account of sin. He condemned sin in the flesh

  546. that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in

  547. us, who do not walk, according to the flesh.

  548. But, according to the spirit, For those who live, according to

  549. the flesh, set their minds on things of the flesh.

  550. But those who live, according to the spirit, the things of the

  551. spirit for to be carnally, minded is death but to be

  552. spiritually. Minded is life and peace.

  553. I switched these slides on accident.

  554. So this is I want back these are out of order because the carnal

  555. mind is enmity against God for. It is not subject to the law of

  556. God nor indeed can be Go down to verse 23, we ourselves groan

  557. within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the

  558. Redemption of our body. For we were saved in this hope

  559. but hope that is seen is not hope for.

  560. Why does one still hope for what he sees.

  561. But if we hope for what we do, not see, we eagerly wait for it

  562. with perseverance. Who verse 35, who shall separate

  563. us from the love of Christ. We've come to this Mount, Zion,

  564. we've come to this, great city of the Living God and God is

  565. here for us. All and all of his great power.

  566. Who shall separate us from this love, shall tribulation, shall

  567. distress or persecution, or famine, or nakedness or Peril or

  568. sword at his rating as it is written for your sake.

  569. We are killed all day long. We are accounted as sheep for

  570. the slaughter. That's kind of a, that's a

  571. unique connection to the able there.

  572. Yet in all these things, we are more than conquerors through

  573. him. Who loved us for?

  574. I am persuaded that neither death, nor life nor angels nor

  575. persevere principalities nor powers nor things present.

  576. Aunt, nor things to come nor height nor depth, nor any other

  577. created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of

  578. God, which is in Christ Jesus, our lord, our God is a consuming

  579. fire. But he is also a God who

  580. welcomes us into his presence. He was Schurz us of our

  581. Salvation in him and we should be persuaded that, no matter

  582. what happens. We should put our trust in him

  583. and focus on him and our focus on Jesus because nothing can

  584. separate us from him except ourselves in our own decisions.

  585. May we serve God acceptably this week with reverence and fear

  586. that we devote ourselves to him in the way that he asks and will

  587. close. Chapter at the end of chapter

  588. 12. Next time to continue on in

  589. chapter 13. If you have started this walk,

  590. or if you've never started this walk as a Christian part of that

  591. acceptable Services, taking seriously his commands, it's

  592. taking seriously, what he asks of us and not D, emphasizing

  593. their over emphasizing your where we might say anything.

  594. Against one another, we're told we got here, the word we're

  595. told. We have to believe that we have

  596. to repent and change our lives so that we can live in the

  597. spirit as we read in Romans. So we can live an acceptable

  598. life and ultimately Mately a life that's better for us as

  599. well and we can be baptized for the remission of sin.

  600. We can confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and be

  601. baptized for the remission of our sins.

  602. And once we've done that, if we mess up, if you're here today

  603. and you've been added to the church but you want to make

  604. things, right? Our God tells us we are welcome

  605. to ask for forgiveness and you can take care of that in your

  606. seat, but if you would like some help with that this morning, if

  607. you would like to lift the burdens off of yourself and help

  608. and give them to the congregation so that we can help

  609. in any way, please. Please come forward this morning
