  1. Good morning. Everyone is a wonderful day, a

  2. wonderful New Year. We have the start and a no, not

  3. a better way to do it, and what we have this morning to start

  4. our new year and praise to God, and learning from hills, will I

  5. pray and from doing those self evaluation today.

  6. So everyone was supposed to get one of these little papers.

  7. If you do not get one, I will try to get 10 after services, so

  8. please just come see me. I don't like giving homework in

  9. my classroom, but I think homework is very important for

  10. Christian because we have to be doing this stuff all the time.

  11. So I beg you. Please do this.

  12. Please take this self-assessment.

  13. I've given at some point. If you're like me, I wouldn't

  14. benefit the most from, doing it during the service.

  15. Although I went, I think we should all be doing that during

  16. a study, please. If you will take this home and

  17. do it yourself and keep it for you, it's not to turn into

  18. anything this. Is for you.

  19. This is for us to do individually today and this is

  20. what our whole study is about. Our whole study.

  21. This morning is a where I am. And I appreciated, Salas prayer

  22. this morning. He asked for us to have clear

  23. minds and Open Hearts. And that's a perfect.

  24. Perfect request for a study like this.

  25. And my little introduction versa have on the board is Psalm 119

    Psalms 119:59

  26. verse 59, kind of the driver of everything.

  27. When I think on my on my, on my ways, the psalmist said, I turn

  28. my feet to your testimonies when I think on my ways that causes

  29. me to turn my feet to your testimonies.

  30. And so this morning, my goal is for us as we start this New Year

  31. to evaluate ourselves where are you at today?

  32. And specifically I'd like us to look at it through the lens of

  33. where have you come in the past year, where have you grown in

  34. the past? Past year, where has your

  35. progress been made? Where's your development come in

  36. the past year? But if you want to look at this

  37. from a where you're at, in general, either one is fine.

  38. Those will both be very productive Endeavors.

  39. Now, I'm trying to find a ways and I've been trying to look for

  40. different ways. I can work it.

  41. When I've learned as a teacher through the all the classes we

  42. took and all the things we have to go through as teachers to

  43. leverage that to better my teaching and here and this is

  44. something we do in the classroom, a lot

  45. self-assessment, and we'll talk more in a little bit.

  46. The reasons for that, but it's a great indicator of your maturity

  47. level. If you can self assess, if you

  48. are self aware enough to look at yourself and any skill in life

  49. and say, how can I be better? Higher level of growth and

  50. development. And so we try to do this in the

  51. classroom and I'll start out by giving so much I think

  52. justification why I think it's important that we do this just

  53. real quick. I will have this QR code on the

  54. board after Services. I'm not going to leave it up so

  55. if you're familiar with this you just scan this with your camera

  56. and it takes you to a digital version of the survey, please do

  57. both. So this one that I've handed out

  58. is for you. The what I'm going to put on the

  59. screen for after services on your Our own time is it's going

  60. to be anonymous, so I'm not going to know who sent it in,

  61. but if I figure out some 50, 60 people, you know, how strong am

  62. I in? And identifying ways?

  63. I can help serve the church. How strong have I how strong

  64. have I been in this area? If we can collect data?

  65. That's an honest and say okay we had 20 people say I'm not very

  66. good in this area that's going to be very helpful for us as

  67. teachers and teaching we try to use data driven practices to

  68. really get to the The heart of what are our congregations needs

  69. or what is our group's needs? So please do both.

  70. It will really help you for this one and us as teachers for this

  71. one after Services. Okay, those are your only two

  72. things. I'm going to ask you to do.

  73. So here's our outline for this study.

  74. Number one, we're going to look at some examples.

  75. We're going to look at the purpose and the value of

  76. self-assessment second. We're going to look at some

  77. barriers to self-assessment thirdly.

  78. We're going to actually do the self-assessment.

  79. We're going to walk through each of these questions and talk more

  80. about them. And number 4, we're going to ask

  81. ourselves the question. Hopefully get an answer to the

  82. question. What is one thing I should do

  83. going forward? Because the whole point of any

  84. self-assessment, I do in my room, they're not graded, it's

  85. the point is, how do you move forward?

  86. What is our best? Stepping stone.

  87. Now, to go forward from where we're at.

  88. That's the whole point of this. So, no, at no point.

  89. Do I want anyone to get locked or lost in the past in your old

  90. year, about moving forward. So first, one of the reasons.

  91. So what is our, what is the purpose of a self-assessment and

  92. it's to combat stagnant faith. And these first couple questions

  93. will just lead us off. Are you in the same place that

  94. you were a year ago? Spiritually.

  95. Now life can be challenging and it can put us in tough

  96. situations and sometimes those situations make us grow.

  97. But it doesn't always mean we're growing spiritually, you might

  98. have grown as a person, but are you growing spiritually?

  99. Are you the same place? You were five years ago?

  100. Spiritually. Or not even 10 years ago.

  101. And another important caveat is, we're not looking for today is

  102. not about numerical growth. I want everyone today to put on

  103. blinders in some sense. I have to talk to everyone, so I

  104. don't have the same blinders on, but I'm gonna go home and I'm

  105. gonna do the same thing. We need to put blinders on

  106. because we're not worried about numerical growth.

  107. What's going on around us? We're not worried about the

  108. person sitting next to us or across the building.

  109. This is about our own individual development.

  110. How can we ever expect to grow for not self-aware?

  111. Lamentation, Lamentations, ver 3:40 says, let us test and

  112. examine our ways and return to the Lord.

  113. Psalm, 139:16 23 through 24. Several of these verses are from

  114. the ESV Search me, o God and know.

  115. My heart. Try me and know my thoughts and

  116. see if there be any Grievous way in me and Lead Me in the way

  117. Everlasting. Search me, try me and Lead me.

  118. That's our ultimate goal and we we ask God to help us do that.

  119. But we have to turn our own our own brains on to be an active

  120. part in this process Joba 1323. How many are my iniquities in my

  121. sins? Jobe ask this question.

  122. How many are they? And we learn later.

  123. Job was a blameless, man. But He was asking God.

  124. This question make me to know my transgression, and my sin, and

  125. that is our prayer this morning, I appreciate Frank, praying

  126. night, it will be self-reflective.

  127. And I hope if any of us start to days off this morning, we

  128. realize we're only hurting ourselves.

  129. God make me to know our transgressions.

  130. First Corinthians, chapter 11 28, let a person examine himself

    1 Corinthians 11 chapter mention

  131. then and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup that's

  132. regarding communion. We're supposed to examine

  133. ourselves in every area of our life.

  134. First Corinthians 10 verse 12. Therefore, to anyone who thinks

    1 Corinthians 10:12

  135. that he stands take heed, lest he fall.

  136. Galatians chapter 6, verse 3 and 4.

    Galatians 6:3

  137. If anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing,

  138. he deceives himself. But let each one test his own

  139. work. We are very much in danger of

  140. deceiving ourselves and if we don't take a careful look at

  141. ourselves, that's that's a big part of this lesson.

  142. This is the set of pattern of self-reflection.

  143. So we get the value of that and we set our own goals and make

  144. our own pattern of self-reflection.

  145. Second Corinthians 13, verse 44 though he was crucified and

  146. weakness. Speaking of Jesus yet he lives

  147. by the power of God for. We also are weakened him but we

  148. shall live with him by the power of God towards you examine

  149. yourselves as to whether you are in the faith, test yourselves

  150. Paul writes and Second Corinthian letter.

  151. James chapter 14, if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a

  152. doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in

  153. the mirror for. He looks at himself and goes

  154. away at once and forgets what he was like, but the one who looks

  155. into the perfect law, the law of Liberty and perseveres.

  156. Being a here being no here who forgets but a doer who acts, he

  157. will be blessed in his doing. Okay, so kind of starting to

  158. close up our preparation for the self-assessment.

  159. This is some emphasis on the idea that I don't want us to

  160. look around at other people or other people in our life because

  161. in 2nd Corinthians chapter 10. It says not that we dare to

  162. classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are

  163. committing themselves. But when they measure themselves

  164. by one, another, and compare themselves with one another,

  165. they are without understanding they are ignorant.

  166. He says when we look around and just try to compare ourselves

  167. with others, the only people we should be comparing ourselves

  168. with is the Lord Jesus Christ, and his standard, and our own

  169. past self for betterment. That's our only source of

  170. comparison, Philippians 2:12. We're told I'm going to skip

    Philippians 2:12

  171. down to the end to work out our own salvation with fear and

  172. trembling Psalm 19 says, who can discern his errors.

  173. And that ultimate perspective of this is to ask God that.

  174. God declare me. Innocent from the hidden faults,

  175. keep back your servant from presumptuous sins.

  176. It's a prayer for God to help us avoid not knowing ourselves, so

  177. that we don't look past our own wrongs in our own sins.

  178. So we are going to need God's help in this process and we will

  179. talk about that that prayer and asking.

  180. For God's help is a vital part of this process.

  181. So and kind of summary the big Main It's the reason why

  182. self-assessment is so important is.

  183. It is a great indicator of maturity level.

  184. In anything you do, whether it's your job, whether it's, your

  185. family. If you're able to look at your

  186. own life and say, how can where am I at?

  187. And how can I be better? That's a mature person that

  188. area, that's an experienced person.

  189. And the people who don't look at that are considered infants in

  190. their field. So, number one, it helps us the

  191. great skill of Taking stock objectively which is self

  192. awareness understanding the standard as a huge part of

  193. self-assessment. You got to understand the

  194. standard. So ignorance and knowledge are

  195. very intertwined in this study identifying ways to move

  196. forward. These are the three main points

  197. of self-assessment as I've got to come up with them.

  198. And one last emphasis Jesus is great criticisms, his most fiery

  199. criticisms of people or based on A lack of doing that.

  200. He says you're like whitewashed tombs Frank talked about the

  201. other day. They weren't aware of what they

  202. truly were on the inside where Jesus says later Matthew 22

    Matthew 22:29

  203. verse 29. You do not understand the

  204. scriptures or the power of God. So I want to help us avoid these

  205. issues. Some to start off this

  206. self-assessment. We're now looking at the very

  207. top. I'm going to work our way down

  208. this paper. If you want to read that.

  209. In front of you, I'll have the questions up here.

  210. Our first category, I I put on there is prayer.

  211. Question number one, and we're going to be rating ourselves.

  212. I have at the top, a scale of one to five.

  213. Number one will be week, number five, will be strong.

  214. So anywhere in between there, you think you're at, you can

  215. write that number. So on a scale of 1 to 5 from

  216. weak to strong, where are you? And they're in the area of, I

  217. pray God's word, back to him regarding his plans and his will

  218. Do you do that in the question? It the way?

  219. It's phrase. I hope it's not confusing but

  220. the question is, do I pray? God's will back to him regarding

  221. his plans and his will. When I've done Bible studies

  222. with people when they're ones. We have going on right now with

  223. with Jose and Eric over Zoom right now.

  224. One of the best things that you start to see happen is when, you

  225. know, you're starting out do an introductory prayer or a closing

  226. prayer and they're praying about the things that you either

  227. talked about last study or that you've just studied about.

  228. Praying God's word. Back to him is a way of

  229. communicating about God's will and his desires and your

  230. understanding connection to it. Do you pray?

  231. God's will back to him saying God I heard that you said this

  232. helped me to have an open heart, help me to go the Second Mile,

  233. whatever that teaching is. In Psalm chapter 37 verse 1,

    Psalms 37:1

  234. through 8, I think it captures the importance of doing this.

  235. It says do not fret because of evildoers nor be envious of the

  236. workers of iniquity for. They shall soon be cut down like

  237. the grass and wither as the green herb trust in the Lord and

  238. do good dwell in the land and feed on his faithfulness.

  239. So basically the first thought is Trust in God don't worry

  240. about the evil doers but here is the kicker verse 4 says delight

  241. yourself also in the Lord and what will happen and he shall

  242. give you the desires of your heart.

  243. So, if we are going to be praying, God, asking God for

  244. things later, like Jesus says, ask and you shall receive.

  245. We have to follow this pattern, then the things we want to have

  246. to be the what the things that God wants.

  247. Because when Jesus says, ask and you shall receive he later,

  248. says, you don't receive you. Ask amiss that you will spend it

  249. on your pleasures and so you don't get what you want.

  250. So the this in summary, God will give us a, give us what we want.

  251. But not if it's just a serve our own Pleasures, God will give us

  252. what we want. If our desires are lined up with

  253. him. So back to that verse delight

  254. yourself in the Lord set up, your desires, your goals, your

  255. motivations toward him, and that he's going to satisfy that

  256. desire. He's going to fill that with the

  257. right response and prayer and then the satisfaction in our

  258. lives. So are we praying God's will

  259. back to him? Are we praying with the

  260. intention to fill God's purposes and God's will he goes on the

  261. sale to finish out the rest. The couple sentences about

  262. Psalm. He says, commit your way to the

  263. Lord trust in him and he shall bring it to pass.

  264. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light.

  265. Not your evil selfish desires, your righteousness and your

  266. justice as the noon day. And this is a side point and

  267. we're going to get to some other areas later in the survey that

  268. talk about this but I love this, this passage it go.

  269. This is continuing on the same idea rest in the Lord and wait

  270. patiently for him, do not fret because of him who prospers in

  271. his way because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass

  272. cease from anger, and forsake wrath do not fret.

  273. The only causes call. We're going to talk about

  274. rejoicing later in this study. But it's easy to get caught up

  275. in fretting and worrying and being angry about the wicked.

  276. What we need is not people to continually fret and worry about

  277. the wicked because that can always just cause harm to the

  278. people who are trying. May we be examples young and old

  279. of how to rest in the Lord. This is a place of rest from the

  280. Troubles of the world, not a place to worry, over the

  281. Troubles of the world, all the time.

  282. This is a place where we should share in and learn in resting in

  283. the Lord young and especially older.

  284. Please be example, show us how to do that.

  285. Show us how to find rest in God's presence, and rest in his

  286. purposes and how to wait patiently for the Lord.

  287. Because fretting often only causes harm.

  288. Question. Number 2, do I leave my time of

  289. prayer with peace. Do I leave my time of prayer

  290. with peace and a week in this area or my strong.

  291. First Peter 5 verse 7 says casting all your anxieties on

    1 Peter 5:7

  292. him because he cares for you, Matthew 6 verse 7.

    Matthew 6:7

  293. And when you pray this is the ESV.

  294. I like how it says it do not Heap up empty phrases as the

  295. Gentiles do when I get it mental image in my head.

  296. I don't this is super accurate but almost like you're taking

  297. trash bags and was throwing them on a pile.

  298. You're not doing anything with it, it's just empty.

  299. It's pointless. When you pray, do not just Heap

  300. up empty phrases as the Gentiles do for they think they will be

  301. heard for their many words, he goes on to say, Go talk to your

  302. father in the secret place. One on one and say what you

  303. mean. It doesn't have to be a long

  304. prayer is the essence of what he goes on to say.

  305. Now, the reason I think this question is such a helpful

  306. indicator for me, personally of, whether my prayer life is being

  307. effective, is because when I don't leave my prayer time with

  308. peace, it's often because I'm just keeping up, I'm just, I'm

  309. just throw it all on there. I'm not really trusting God, I'm

  310. not really We are taking something to God and then laying

  311. it. They're casting the anxiety on

  312. him. I'm just piling it up.

  313. Are we trusting in God enough to leave time of prayer with peace?

  314. The third question. Are you an M?

  315. I constantly in prayer. First Thessalonians 5 Verse 6

    1 Thessalonians 5:6

  316. says to pray without ceasing it just means prayed non-stop

  317. praying without stopping. Don't stop praying.

  318. You could say that in a bunch of different ways, And the idea

  319. behind that is that we should all be running conversation with

  320. the Lord of our life. Doesn't mean, you have to

  321. literally have a distracted mindset old.

  322. I'm talking to God right now all the time.

  323. It means you have a running conversation about what's coming

  324. in your day. What's happening in your day and

  325. what happened in your day? Are you praying God's will in

  326. your day? Are we constantly talking to

  327. God? On a scale of 1 to 5.

  328. The next category, we're on to Fellowship question for having

  329. to do with fellowship with one another.

  330. The question is the first one here.

  331. Do I carry responsibility in the congregation?

  332. On a scale of 1 to 5. Am I weak?

  333. Or am I strong in the area of caring responsibilities in the

  334. congregation? I think this is a helpful time

  335. to look at. I saw this visual online.

  336. I'm not going to go through all of it, but as this person

  337. outlined from scripture, what they thought might be a dead

  338. Christian and infant Christian, a child, a young adult.

  339. And a parent, many of the things that we consider to be good

  340. Christian habits. You can be an immature Christian

  341. and doing them. And I think the visual you can't

  342. see because I had to zoom in enough to see the whole all the

  343. words. But the parent version of this

  344. this image is lifting others up. So in your maturity level, are

  345. you the one getting pulled up? Are you an infant?

  346. Are you the one may be going along by your own strength, but

  347. still pulling on others. Are you?

  348. The one climbing wall? You're pulling up others or

  349. maybe are you the one who's actively just using all of your

  350. energy to help others? zup that can be a good

  351. indication of where we're at because we might be doing good

  352. Christian habits, but it often a sign of Christian maturity is

  353. where is your responsibility In a congregation we are we are

  354. member or we are a congregation. That is close-knit, in many

  355. places don't have the kind of individual responsibility that

  356. we have here but individually, when is your responsibility an

  357. infant? It says, here they are the Lord

  358. of their life. They're beginning to learn

  359. truth. A child goes on to say they are

  360. growing in their relationship with God.

  361. They're building relationships with other believers.

  362. They're developing habits of Bible study and prayer there.

  363. Plugging into relational environments for discipleship.

  364. So plugging in here in the congregation but I think that

  365. it's interesting they include that with still being a child.

  366. And I think these things can be filled in all the other areas

  367. but if that's all you're doing consider some of the

  368. responsibilities of maybe young adult, they're becoming less

  369. self-centered and more other-centered they're beginning

  370. to see themselves as servants. they are giving to the two

  371. others into the church comes from a place of thankfulness and

  372. love and their understanding of the Kingdom, the Kingdom Purpose

  373. of going out and serving other members of the congregation.

  374. Some phrases. They might say, I kind of like

  375. this. Well, let's go the phrases, the

  376. child, they say some phrases a child.

  377. Chris you might say, is I love my church because I feel like I

  378. belong. I love my church because people

  379. make me feel welcome and there's nothing wrong with that.

  380. But if that's the extent of how you see things, for example, a

  381. young adult Christian here, it says they might say, I'm going

  382. to visit so-and-so in the hospital tonight rather than

  383. going to the movies. I'm going to serve in this way

  384. so that it can benefit someone else and they have here as a

  385. parent Christian, they might say they're teaching other people

  386. how to serve So there's various levels of responsibility on this

  387. and this is not straight from the it's based on biblical

  388. principles but I'm not going to spend too much time on it

  389. because that they further on to say I'll start here the

  390. spiritual child. At this stage, people are

  391. growing in their relationship with God and are also beginning

  392. to grow and their relationship with other Christians.

  393. They are applying God's word, however it's still mostly about

  394. them their needs their A spiritual young adult.

  395. And this stage people are making a big shift from being

  396. self-centered. They're serving others being

  397. doers of the word. A spiritual parent as a solid

  398. understanding of God's word and a deep abiding relationship with

  399. the father. They're living out God's word,

  400. other sent others centered, and God dependent.

  401. They are able to reproduce mature Disciples of Christ by

  402. inviting others to follow. Okay.

  403. I think that's enough time. I've spent on that.

  404. So, the question was, where is your responsibility level in the

  405. congregation? Number 5, do you share or how

  406. much do you share accountability with someone in the

  407. congregation? Where are you with sharing

  408. accountability with someone in the congregation and anything?

  409. You you go in the world. If anyone is struggling with

  410. someone, something you have to attach an accountability partner

  411. to get out of a cycle of not succeeding, whatever you're

  412. doing, attaching accountability, partner, and I, and my personal

  413. experience, and from advice from others, having an accountability

  414. partner. That's other someone other than

  415. your spouse or a close family member, it can become an echo

  416. chamber. The same things are being said,

  417. the same things are being thought and maybe even you need

  418. to get outside that to confess some things that might help you

  419. aside. From that relationship in my

  420. experience, having someone who is separate from your normal

  421. every single day around relationship can be helpful.

  422. So, do you share accountability with some of the congregation?

  423. For example, I'm going to work on this.

  424. Can you hold me to that next, by next week?

  425. I just did this with my, one of my students, we're working on.

  426. She's trying out to be a liar and she said, okay, we're going

  427. to start tomorrow, come back, tell me.

  428. If you've lied in 24 hours, we're going to work on this.

  429. She didn't do that. So in three days, and three days

  430. you're gonna come back. You're going to we're going to

  431. celebrate the fact that you didn't Terrell tell a lie in

  432. three days and in a week and she had made it a week.

  433. He was a compulsive liar. We have to have accountability.

  434. Do you have someone that you are accountable with?

  435. Number 6. Do you study and discuss the

  436. Bible with someone else in the congregation as we were to tie

  437. it back to maybe what an infant a child or young adult?

  438. Might do I thought maybe an infant would always be led by

  439. others and study? Maybe a child will be studying

  440. hand-in-hand with another person.

  441. Maybe a young adult would be leading a study.

  442. And I have said here, don't over complicate.

  443. Getting started is the hardest part, because we often feel like

  444. we have to have something special to say in my study.

  445. Is he? I'm not saying I'm the model at

  446. all. But, but in my studies, I read

  447. with them. And we talked about what they

  448. think. It means that what from my

  449. understanding, what it's what I understand.

  450. And if I don't get it, I say I'll come back to you on that.

  451. Don't overcomplicate it. Read it together.

  452. And let that just be that simple.

  453. Are you leading a study? Even if you don't feel like, you

  454. know, everything I do not know everything by any means.

  455. But you can lead a study, maybe if you're an adult Christian

  456. maybe this is a strong level of maturity.

  457. You lead, other leaders and study.

  458. So maybe a little perspective shift to where we think I'm

  459. studying God's word that's enough.

  460. Well we still might be not taking enough responsibility of

  461. study with others. Okay, our next category, I've

  462. labeled it service number 7 in service to others.

  463. And scale of one to five. How much have I identified ways?

  464. I can help and actively seeking opportunities to use those

  465. skills, or those ways I can help.

  466. So I have identified ways, I can help.

  467. Have you done that on a scale of 1 to 5 and how much are you

  468. actively seeking opportunities to use them?

  469. And maybe a few helpful steps. You know people talk about.

  470. I just you know I need a little more.

  471. How exactly do we do that? I put maybe I put together a

  472. little list so make a list of something of some things that

  473. you are able to do, make a list and right ways that you could

  474. hypothetically see yourself using those.

  475. And then pray with a sincere heart for opportunity to do to

  476. see opportunity to be aware of your talents and to build those

  477. Talent. I think that would get us pretty

  478. far if we would do those things, that's just what I came up with.

  479. Maybe you have a better strategy for finding ways and seeking

  480. opportunities to use them. Matthew 25.

  481. There's a parable there of the talents where Jesus talking

  482. about using intelligence in that context was money.

  483. But the idea is, do you use what you have for God?

  484. And he's, he doesn't say, you know, the people who buried and

  485. didn't use their abilities, or what they had or fine, he called

  486. them Wicked. Are you actively seeking to use

  487. the abilities that you have? And it's not an excuse to just

  488. not know, we have to figure it out and sometimes we may need to

  489. ask others for help but don't rely on asking other people.

  490. To tell you what to do all the time because as a worker, you

  491. know, when you're if you have an employee's under your and and

  492. that employees always have to say, okay, what do I do now?

  493. What do I do now? How do I move my hand?

  494. Now, I'm here, now in here. Now maturity says, I'm going to

  495. help you for a little while but you're going to start figuring

  496. out on your own, what you can do.

  497. So it's a process, it's all processed, but ways to make it

  498. grow in these areas. Okay, the next question, I'm

  499. going to start moving faster through these.

  500. We're going to we're going to make pretty good time.

  501. Number 8. in the regard to benevolence or giving in the

  502. contribution, how much do I give Cheerfully and generously.

  503. So on a scale of 1 to 5. Am I weak or my strong?

  504. In the area of giving cheerfully and generously to the

  505. contribution. An approval Asterix here next to

  506. being mindful of the works and the needs involved with because

  507. those should motivate are giving even further and I think that's

  508. an area that we as the male members have been talking about

  509. being better, we want to talk more about, where's the money

  510. being used? How can we make it more

  511. transparent to our people see? Hey, this is was well, I was

  512. able to support whether it's the Filipino Brethren, the eight

  513. preachers or so that we're supporting to spread the gospel

  514. or we want to keep it, you know, discreet.

  515. I don't want to make people feel bad if their members getting the

  516. support, but just to know, we've supported members who are in

  517. need in this congregation who have needed the help.

  518. That's a huge blessing to them and it's a blessing to give to

  519. them. So we're going to I think we're

  520. going to work on doing that more.

  521. How much a scale 1 to 5? Are you benevolent in the

  522. contribution? Second Corinthians 8, verse 2,

    2 Corinthians 8:2

  523. Chris shared this in one of our meetings, the other day, the

  524. scripture and it's it's a beautiful passage.

  525. It says they're in a great trial of Affliction.

  526. The abundance of their joy and the Deep poverty abounded in the

  527. riches of their liberality. So out of a trial of Affliction,

  528. not a typical place, we might think.

  529. Oh that's where good things are going to come from the abundance

  530. of their Joy. In their deep poverty, actually

  531. abounded in the riches of their liberality.

  532. That's the Christ effect. That's the Christ effect for I

  533. bear witness that according to their ability, what they could

  534. do. Yes and beyond their Ability

  535. Beyond what they could do. They were freely willing

  536. imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift

  537. and The Fellowship of the ministering to the Saints and

  538. not only as we had hoped. I love this part.

  539. This is a key. I think to everything we're

  540. talking about but they first gave themselves to the Lord,

  541. that's how all this happened. The reason they're able to give

  542. with joy and liberality eight of them, out of their poverty.

  543. Was they first gave themselves to the Lord and then To Us by

  544. the will of God. Giving ourselves to the Lord

  545. will produce fruit beyond what we expect to be normal.

  546. Now here I want to pause for a careful caution as you're going

  547. through the survey as I did, it became easy to think.

  548. Well, I mean, what does it really mean to do that in this

  549. list? Like I think I'm doing it.

  550. And I don't mean to be overly self-critical but I want to be

  551. careful that we don't start to classify our way out of growing

  552. because that's what happened with Jesus.

  553. And the Pharisees verse Luke, 10 verse 25, it says there and

    Luke 10:25

  554. behold a certain lawyer stood up and tested him.

  555. Jesus saying teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life.

  556. And he said to him what is written in the law?

  557. What is your reading of it? So he answered and said, You

  558. shall love the Lord, your God with all your heart, your soul

  559. with your strength and all your mind, and your neighbor as

  560. yourself. And he said to him, Jesus said

  561. to him, you have answered rightly do this and you will

  562. live, but he wanting to justify himself said to Jesus.

  563. And he was my neighbor. We can easily ask questions that

  564. kind of scorm ourselves out of responsibility out of growth.

  565. We can classify wolf. Well, who really is my neighbor?

  566. I me, I'm giving to this and that and, you know, I'm serving

  567. this way. But who do I really need to

  568. serve let's be careful that we answer these questions honestly

  569. for ourselves because it can be easy to classify our way out of

  570. doing something. Myself included.

  571. Number nine, benevolence in our personal lives.

  572. So we've talked about benevolence in the congregation.

  573. What about benevolence in our personal lives toward Brethren.

  574. First of all, we can be good to our Brethren.

  575. And it says in Matthew 10 verse 42, that you give even a cup of

    Matthew 10:42

  576. cold water basically God sees that as the idea of you can give

  577. a something simple to the Brethren God appreciates that

  578. but also in general, And what I mean by that is is it your

  579. life's Habit to be generous person on a scale of one to

  580. five? How generous are you in general?

  581. The parable of the Good Samaritan.

  582. We call them in the parable of that good man.

  583. The whole point of the parable, I think is it wasn't specific.

  584. The good man who gave you wasn't giving specifically to who the

  585. victim was. We didn't really know much about

  586. the victim who was hurt in that parable of the Good Samaritan.

  587. We know about the perspective of The Giver, the perspective of a

  588. givers, I guess I don't have the verse there but he basically

  589. says, Frank mentioned this in his lesson the other day,

  590. whatever he needs. When I come back I'll give it to

  591. him. I'll pay for whatever he needs.

  592. He came along saw a man that was hurt on the road.

  593. He took him to an end paid for Sighs.

  594. I'll take care of the needs. When I come back, do you stop

  595. and say, well, do I need to help this guy's it really within my

  596. jurisdiction of money, to help? It was just a spirit.

  597. Let me help. This guy who's in need, whatever

  598. he needs out, pay for it. I will take care of it.

  599. That's the perspective on a scale of 1 to 5.

  600. How much do we have that? Yeah, I'm doing this for myself

  601. to I'm not not a standing above anyone even though I'm up on the

  602. stage number 10. How much do I step out of my

  603. comfort zone regularly for God's work in, whatever form it takes

  604. A scale of 1 to 5. Do I find myself stepping out of

  605. my comfort zone regularly for God's work in whatever form.

  606. It may take The next category of Outreach, number 11, do I

  607. actively befriend people who are lost.

  608. In regard to outreach how much of scale 125, Dwight, actively

  609. befriend people who are lost. And I think this is important

  610. for outreach and evangelism because consider how we would

  611. respond to someone who is trying to teach us about religion.

  612. We have to be we have to be honest, our beliefs are pretty

  613. guarded. Now for Goodwill we need to have

  614. a strength about our convictions.

  615. That's not just going around with every foot in the fleet.

  616. We have to be strong, but we do have pretty guarded beliefs.

  617. It is hard to penetrate to our faith to make us change.

  618. So why would we expect others to change?

  619. If we don't befriend them first and tear down.

  620. Those barriers with Art of Christ plan.

  621. Part of his work Christ, love that will help us get past.

  622. Those barriers through befriending people.

  623. Who are lost? Number 12.

  624. How much do I work? Spiritual matters into

  625. conversation as I was thinking about this, you know, especially

  626. growing up, thinking that I had to have a certain way of talking

  627. to people about God. Now, maybe I will grow in these

  628. different ways that I'm not there yet, but I have a hard

  629. time walking up and saying something like, have I told you

  630. about my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  631. That's not how I talk and work it into conversation.

  632. I don't Don't communicate like that.

  633. That's not what I do. And so it might look different

  634. for everyone for how you work in those spiritual matters in the

  635. conversation. Again, I'm not the standard, but

  636. just tell you my for my experience, just having a casual

  637. conversation, it's going to come up if it's a pattern in your

  638. life. So you don't have to do

  639. something. Extravagant here to be working,

  640. spiritual matters in the conversation.

  641. But are you doing it regularly? The next category, we're moving

  642. quickly through no disposition. So in the category of Christian

  643. disposition, your attitude and perspective.

  644. Number 13 scale of one to five. How is your patience with

  645. others? Are you weak in this area?

  646. Are you strong your patients with others?

  647. Number 14? How is your patience with

  648. yourself now? I've gotten parentheses here

  649. perseverance because I think / patience with yourself.

  650. Is part of just having a patient.

  651. Christians are to be patient, and I think it permeates into

  652. your patience with others. Your patience with yourself, as

  653. you seek to grow, and it applies heavily to perseverance.

  654. If I am patient enough with myself, I say, okay, I didn't do

  655. well there, but I can't overreact and just get too

  656. discouraged because then you don't persevere, you have to

  657. have enough patience with yourself to say, okay, I'm going

  658. to lay on my side. Those things are behind and move

  659. on to things that are ahead. And I'm going to persevere.

  660. How much do you have patience with yourself?

  661. As you grow as a Christian. What a joy seeing.

  662. So we talked a little bit earlier, we're going to get back

  663. to it, on a scale of one to five.

  664. How do you feel like you are? Are you weak?

  665. Are you strong about rejoicing? I'm gonna break it into two

  666. separate ones. I didn't have enough space in

  667. the paper on one side to do two separate questions, but it could

  668. definitely get its own questions.

  669. How are you about rejoicing publicly?

  670. I don't mean standing on the street corner, like the

  671. Pharisees. I mean, there's a way about

  672. having that excited disposition and Joy about your faith.

  673. That doesn't have to be fake and self-promoting.

  674. Like the Jews. Did the Pharisees did.

  675. Are you weak in the area of rejoicing or you should strong?

  676. Specifically, I think it's important to look at how we

  677. rejoice when we're alone. Do you find yourself rejoicing

  678. in God alone? So I think that will spill over

  679. into the public part. Once you start rejoicing more on

  680. your own time, Philippians 4, verse 4.

    Philippians 4:4

  681. Gives us a command to rejoice in the lord always whether it's in

  682. public, whether it's alone. You rejoice in the Lord.

  683. Again, I will say rejoice, God, repeated himself for a reason.

  684. Do we rejoice? And where the tough thing is.

  685. I've there have been quite a few Christians, I've known who I've

  686. had 40 or 50 conversations with about how bad the world is.

  687. But maybe one conversation of rejoicing in the Lord.

  688. Think about your ratio of rejoicing to criticism.

  689. You're rich, you're a ratio of rejoicing to criticism has

  690. effect on people. You talk to Do you rejoice in

  691. conversation when you come together with the brethren?

  692. You rejoice in the assembly, when you're sitting in your seat

  693. praising from your heart when you're sitting your car.

  694. Driving down the road talking to the Lord.

  695. On a scale of one to five. How much do you rejoice, 16?

  696. Am I open to finding new ways to grow?

  697. Even if it doesn't come from a source, I want to hear from We

  698. can often learn and find ways to grow the most from people.

  699. We do not want to hear it from. When I I find the areas I need

  700. to grow the most when it's somebody I don't really like

  701. Jesus said what credit is that to you?

  702. When you do good to those who are good to you, even the even

  703. the Sinners do that. It's a given.

  704. So are we open to growth even when it doesn't come from a

  705. source? You want to hear it from

  706. oftentimes? We just would, well, we'll take,

  707. we'll take criticism, will take ways to grow from people that we

  708. like anybody else. We'll find a way to criticize

  709. them and push your way their feedback.

  710. Even if it might be valid. Okay, next category, purity.

  711. Number 17, I welcome God's word to expose my sins instead of

  712. hiding them. Scale of 1 to 5, do you?

  713. Welcome God's word exposed sins, instead of wanting to hide them,

  714. 18? How much do I seek

  715. accountability for both? Identifying and fleeing sin in

  716. my life. So identifying sins.

  717. Sometimes we need somebody else to help us.

  718. See it, we have blind spots. We don't see our own self.

  719. That's why I'm so thankful to be married because I find a lot of

  720. my blind spots with the woman standing at the back.

  721. Identifying and fleeing sin in my life so someone can help you

  722. see your sin. And as we talked earlier getting

  723. away from that involves accountability, and I put

  724. specifically seeking accountability, not open to

  725. accountability. Because as we mentioned last

  726. question, we often reject people's attempts to help us and

  727. get keep us accountable. So if we're not actively seeking

  728. accountability, there's a good chance we're not getting

  729. accountability and we're not really open to it.

  730. Because people who have tried to give us accountability, have

  731. long probably been dismissed. Am I after we seeking

  732. accountability. Hey, so and so would you, you

  733. know, maybe somebody you trust? I'm not saying grab anybody, but

  734. Will you help me in this area? I'm going to check back with you

  735. next week. Once you to ask me how this went

  736. for me this week. Now, as Jonathan mentioned,

  737. count, abilities Partners might not be totally reciprocal, and

  738. you might have a different accountability partner for

  739. different struggle. Maybe somebody else can relate

  740. to you and you trust them because they've been through

  741. that totally understandable. Okay, we're coming close to the

  742. end. No, and habits number 19, how

  743. much did your knowledge grow this year?

  744. And how much did you set aside time for daily reading?

  745. Okay, so I put grow here, especially for this question

  746. because your knowledge might not be what you want it to be ever,

  747. but how much did it grow this year?

  748. How much did improve? And that's a related question

  749. that we set aside time for daily reading.

  750. This year, verse 20 or number 20, when I find a weakness, do I

  751. take daily? Measures of maybe meditation,

  752. prayer and scripture reading in that specific area, So, like a

  753. localized treatment for that area of weakness.

  754. Do I do a spiritual rehab or therapy for that muscle?

  755. That's weak and my spiritual life.

  756. That will cause growth. Do I do that with a focus and

  757. intent? To cause growth final category

  758. is the heart. We're going to look at and we're

  759. going to move through pretty quick.

  760. Where is your love for truth? Second Thessalonians 2:10, says,

    2 Thessalonians 2:10

  761. withhold Wicked deception for those who are perishing because

  762. they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

  763. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion that they may

  764. believe a lie or what is false. He doesn't just say that they he

  765. didn't talk about how they didn't believe the truth.

  766. He said they didn't love it. And the reality is, we don't

  767. love truth or more than likely. Not going to hold on to it.

  768. The way God wants us to There is a relationship between belief

  769. and love. I don't believe you can love

  770. something unless you believe it. But just because you believe, it

  771. doesn't mean you love it. Do you love truth?

  772. Do you take pleasure and joy as we mentioned earlier, delighting

  773. in the Lord and his ways. Number 22, a mic.

  774. My confident and assured, that I am going to heaven.

  775. Am I confident and assured that I'm going to have on a scale of

  776. 1 to 5 number 23? On a scale of 1 to 5.

  777. Where is my passion to share Jesus with others?

  778. That can be in word or an action.

  779. What is my passion level? To share Jesus with others.

  780. Number 24. Are you available to God?

  781. Throughout the scriptures where you learn, this is not about

  782. your ability. Jesus chose the lowest class

  783. people to do is work the lowest, maybe educated people to do his

  784. work. It's not about our ability.

  785. It's about our availability to God.

  786. Are you available a scale of one to five to God?

  787. 25. Where is your reverence for God,

  788. on a scale of 1 to 5. Where is your deep and residing

  789. reverence for the creator of this world that is in this room

  790. with us today? Even though we can't see him?

  791. And the final question. Where is your desire to make God

  792. proud? You have a weak desire to make

  793. God. Proud to make him happy and

  794. pleased in your life or is a strong you wake up, wanting to

  795. make, put a smile on the face of the father because we can do

  796. that. We learned that in scriptures,

  797. he exalts and excites and shouts over his children with joy.

  798. How much do you want to put a smile on God's face?

  799. We're going to close up today. Thank you for your patience with

  800. a couple last thoughts. Someone asked his eye Was

  801. talking to them about the study, they thought, what do you think?

  802. Is that one thing? That if our congregation would

  803. do this one thing, what would it be?

  804. That would make everything change.

  805. And you know what? I think.

  806. I think it's the one on this list.

  807. Maybe not that you're the worst at could be.

  808. But the one that you kind of cringe at, when you read it, the

  809. one that you least want to do when you go home, because you're

  810. going to want to, if you go home, look at this, you're going

  811. to think. Ok, I'm going to start with

  812. this. We're probably not going to

  813. gravitate toward the one. That's the one we need the most.

  814. But I think if every single one of us finds the one we least

  815. want to do or maybe the one where the weakest F and we work

  816. on that. Everything will change.

  817. When Jesus was asked just what one thing do, I need to do to be

  818. saved? He said, all these, the Rich

  819. Young Ruler said, all these things I've done for my youth

  820. just said, one thing you need to do is give what you have to the

  821. poor. And Jesus said that because it

  822. was the one thing he didn't want to give up, just didn't really

  823. require all of his servants to be poor living on the streets

  824. with nothing. He knew that this man had

  825. something in his heart. He did not want to give up.

  826. So if we want to really grow we have to gravitate toward that

  827. thing that we do not want to or have not grown in the most and

  828. it's true. There are physical development

  829. working out in the gym, a bunch of my buddies, you know, we

  830. always get together and whether it's football, players and stuff

  831. and football players and tutorials for bench press.

  832. Is squatting, the weight and doing a clean and pray clean and

  833. jerk. So they do basically just a

  834. couple lifts the really strong on.

  835. You see these guys walking through the gym, you think

  836. that's a strong person but they have really serious areas of

  837. weaknesses because that's all that they do.

  838. They do those three main things. And one day I was warming up and

  839. I was doing a hip workout in the gym, okay?

  840. It was just a warm-up exercise to get my hip flexors going.

  841. And one of them was like laughing, he's like what are you

  842. doing that for? What's that about?

  843. Get over there in the squat machine.

  844. I said I'm going there but I found that my hips are the

  845. weakest muscle in my body and when I worked on those, my whole

  846. body got stronger and everything felt better.

  847. My legs felt connected to my back.

  848. Everything start feeling good, when I worked on my weakest

  849. muscle. And that dude was playing

  850. linebacker in college football and he's like, oh yeah whatever.

  851. And he tried it with me, he came back to me a month later and he

  852. said I do that before every single workout now.

  853. He's like, I love it, I feel so much better.

  854. I'm stronger, my lips have all gone up, I'm better in every

  855. area because I worked on my weakest muscle that I thought

  856. was Dumb and I didn't need to mess with it.

  857. And I think it's true spiritually as well.

  858. What is that one area? Number one today?

  859. Please be honest with yourself, take this self-assessment.

  860. Pray about what exactly on your mind.

  861. The exact thoughts that you want to talk to God about pray, those

  862. thoughts because God cannot work with insincerity.

  863. No matter how moral we are. God cannot work with

  864. insincerity, no matter how, no matter how moral we are.

  865. But God can work with honest. Sincere, efforts, and honesty

  866. with ourselves. No matter how Tangled in sin.

  867. We might be, that's the lesson this morning again, I'll put

  868. that QR code. Backup on afterwards.

  869. If you please, take that survey, so we can figure out as

  870. teachers. Where's our congregation?

  871. Now, what ways can we grow? What ways can we help?

  872. So that we can be more effective public teaching and hopefully,

  873. our goal to be more effective as a congregation individually and

  874. collectively wear you out today. We've asked a lot of questions,

  875. are you saying have you heard the word believed repented of

  876. your past life, then willing to change and turn around

  877. confessing? That Jesus Christ is the Son of

  878. God. I mean, baptized for the

  879. remission of your sins, have you done that?

  880. If you have, it's a joyful thing to be a member of the body, and

  881. maybe you need support today, maybe you need to ask

  882. forgiveness of sins. You need support of this body,

  883. maybe you want Collective accountability.

  884. We were talking about individual accountability one-on-one, you

  885. can do that. But if you want Collective

  886. accountability this morning, we're happy to do that.

  887. We're here for each other and there's one of either class,
