  1. Well, thank you again. I'd like to reiterate what Wade

  2. said to those who were responsible for inviting such a

  3. wonderful lunch and I will try to do my part in keeping that

  4. sugar as energy and not coma. We're going to take our study

  5. this afternoon, the topic that simply called a virtuous woman.

  6. I intentionally didn't put the passage up here.

  7. I've only given this one other time and so it's a new lesson,

  8. you're part of the guinea pigs, that have to help me work out

  9. the Kinks. But when I gave it at home, I

  10. think there were five or six people before.

  11. Service says, oh proverbs 31. Proverbs 31.

  12. And I said, no, that's why I didn't put the verse.

  13. In fact, I have a Sermon on The Virtuous Woman for proverbs 31,

  14. but I'll tell you. One of the most common negative

  15. responses I've had to that is women that say that just

  16. exhausts me. I love it.

  17. I know it's true but it's just overwhelming.

  18. I how can anybody be that? Well, we won't get into that.

  19. You know, proverbs 31 is an acrostic, it's basically Alpha

  20. to Omega which is the Hebrew version or that's the Greek

  21. version I guess. But it's a doozy.

  22. Of of a, basically a description.

  23. So it's takes all the letters of the alphabet and start sheets

  24. statement with that. And so, it's intended to be like

  25. this over in some ways, just overwhelming representation, but

  26. the idea or the concept of being a virtuous woman should not be

  27. overwhelming. Now, in fact, I'll say this

  28. about the sermon. If you're sitting here today and

  29. you're like, I'm not a woman so good.

  30. I get to sit here and think what I need to expect out of the

  31. women in my life. That's not where this Essence

  32. actually going. In fact this word virtuous in

  33. the Hebrew comes from a word that literally means a force.

  34. And in the scripture that I have reference it says I will do for

  35. you all that you request for all the people of my town know that

  36. you are a virtuous woman. They know that you're a force of

  37. a woman. Now, this word Force, as I

  38. understand it, I told you this morning, these Hebrew words are

  39. defined because they don't just take Bible manuscripts, they

  40. take any manuscript. They can get and try to

  41. understand how these words. The definition based on how they

  42. were used in context and an old manuscripts that are found other

  43. than biblical. This word is used to describe

  44. strength. That is used to describe power.

  45. It's used to describe melt might and even wealth.

  46. Now, in biblical usage. We know this is a force of good

  47. character. And this is indeed, I think the

  48. context of this, but I want us to broaden as we go into this

  49. study this afternoon. I don't want us as men to sit

  50. there and think, well, this is what the women should do.

  51. I don't want the young people to say this is what the adults

  52. should do. I want us in turn to look at

  53. this and say, how can we be a force of a Christian?

  54. In Bakersfield in the congregation here in the

  55. community, wherever you live, when I go back to Oakdale, how

  56. can I be a force in Oakdale for good for God?

  57. How can Rachel do that? How can we all take on

  58. characteristics? There was something about this

  59. woman that caused this person to say.

  60. I'm going to do for you what you've asked because everybody,

  61. I know this in the everybody, in town knows what a force of a

  62. woman you are. And I want to do this now.

  63. Who was this? I don't know.

  64. I found before Services people start saying, well, where is it

  65. then? Where is it?

  66. One person said, I see what you're doing.

  67. They knew where this came from mediately, once they Realized,

  68. it wasn't proverbs. Comes from The Book of Ruth.

  69. And Ruth chapter 3, Boaz is now talking and he says and now my

    Ruth 3 chapter mention

  70. daughter do not fear, I will do for you all that you request for

  71. all the people of my town know that you are a virtuous woman.

  72. You're a force of a woman. And I'm going to do what, what

  73. did Beau as know about Ruth would cause him to say, I've

  74. heard about you? Everybody in town knows about

  75. you and knows your virtuous. I'm going to suggest that one of

  76. the first two things that, but one of the first few things that

  77. Boaz knew about Ruth is that she had married into the people of

  78. God and she had been converted. She refused to go back to where

  79. she came from or even blame God when tragedy struck their lives.

  80. Now, if you're not familiar with the story of Ruth, I'm not going

  81. to go and read through the whole book.

  82. You can do that on your own time.

  83. I hope you don't do it during the sermon, but I'll just say,

  84. if you get bored, if you get lost, pull out your Old

  85. Testament, go to the Book of Ruth, it's a short read, you'll

  86. be done. Before I am And in fact I'm only

  87. going to cover. What's found up to Ruth chapter

    Ruth 3 chapter mention

  88. 3 and verse 11 because I'm trying to figure out what did

  89. Beau as what did the tell know about her by this time.

  90. If you back up to chapter 12, beginning of the story, you're

  91. going to find out that she had a husband named elimelech or she

  92. had a father-in-law named elimelech.

  93. Her mother-in-law's name was Naomi.

  94. They had two boys mail on and chili on They had left Judah

  95. because there was famine in the land of Judah and they heard

  96. that there was food in Moab. So they went, there just is a

  97. survival choice, they made. It seems they went to that place

  98. and while they're there. Elimelech dies.

  99. I don't know if he dies before, they took wives.

  100. The scripture says, they took wise and I don't know if the

  101. labor, they refused refers to a haemolytic and Naomi or if it

  102. were refers to Milan and chili on.

  103. I can't figure out when they elimelech died but they while

  104. they were there male on and Chilean.

  105. Married to Moab women girls, orpah and Ruth.

  106. And then those boys die. It's at least a decade after

  107. they have moved into Moab. And Naomi says, I hear there's

  108. food again and in Judah and I just need to return.

  109. And from the reading, I'm convinced that orpah and Ruth or

  110. are going along with them because the way I read it, she

  111. ultimately says, look girls, you don't need to go with me.

  112. I'm not going to have any more Sons.

  113. I'm not going to get married again, even if I did get married

  114. again, I even if I had a child tonight, are you really going to

  115. wait? They're men.

  116. No, you girls, go back, you go back to your people, go back to

  117. your gods. Time out.

  118. What Naomi is encouraging? Someone to go back to a false,

  119. god in the Hebrew. It's a little G.

  120. It's l I think is it's a generic word for God, it's not Yahweh.

  121. They have a little bit of a cry Fest.

  122. No, we're not going. Yes.

  123. We're going orpah. Ultimately goes back.

  124. And Ruth says, I'm not going. In fact, the next verses

  125. beginning in verse 16 Ruth, here's what she says to her

  126. entreat me not to leave you or to turn back from following

  127. after you, for wherever you go, I will go and wherever you

  128. Lodge, I will Lodge your people shall be my people and your God,

  129. my God. This is not that Hebrew word, l.

  130. She's like I'm not going back to those.

  131. That's not the same. She has, I'm converted.

  132. I'm not going back there and stop begging me to leave you.

  133. I'm not going to I won't turn for following.

  134. I'm going where you go, you know, I'm ashamed to tell you.

  135. I'm not sure how old I was, but I was a lot older.

  136. I was married with kids before it.

  137. Like there's, this aha moment that's not talking about two

  138. people in love. That are committing themselves

  139. in marriage. This is the daughter-in-law to

  140. the mother-in-law. That's awesome.

  141. Now, not that I want Taylor to leave her family, but I want her

  142. to have that kind of relationship with Rachel.

  143. I want our daughter lost to love one another.

  144. I want them to be kind and and had this kind of affection this

  145. kind of commitment to a family. She's not going where you go.

  146. I want to live where you live, your people are now my people,

  147. your God is my God. Where you die, I will die and

  148. there will I be buried? This was not just about Ruth

  149. saying I'm going to take care of you till you die.

  150. That I'll go back to my people culturally That might have been

  151. something. That's not what she's saying.

  152. She says, I'm going to be buried where you're buried.

  153. That's a big deal. You remember, how many of the

  154. Patriarchs, how many of those under the old Covenant?

  155. If they died in a land? That wasn't Thursday.

  156. Wouldn't have their their kids promise to take and put their

  157. bones back in the cave where the other families buried Joseph in

  158. the land of Egypt. He said before he died, I know

  159. this is going to be a long time before.

  160. Everybody is delivered out of Egypt and the great Exodus and

  161. that deliverance from slavery. But promise me when you go,

  162. you'll carry my bones with youth.

  163. Because he knew that was not his place.

  164. Is he really going to know that one of those bones win or not?

  165. No. But while he was living, he

  166. wanted his bones to be amongst his people.

  167. When they, when Bruce says her, she's going to be buried where

  168. she is saying, I am, totally converted, I am committed and I

  169. will tell you, that's the first. Massive lesson, if we get

  170. nothing else out of this this afternoon about what it takes to

  171. be a force of a person in our community and in our church it's

  172. that when we are converted were converted and we're not going to

  173. go back when things turn South and when tragedy strikes our

  174. life, even if the people that are closest to are ready to give

  175. up. We're not, we're never going to

  176. give up what else? Did Boaz know about her?

  177. I think second of all, he knew she didn't lose faith.

  178. Faith, when her family, when her Mentor became bitter.

  179. In fact, now, the two of them went until they came to

  180. Bethlehem and it happen. Now, we got to stop myself for

  181. just a second. In the verses in between, after

  182. Ruth, has told Naomi, don't plead with these stop.

  183. Stop trying to get me to do this.

  184. It says she spoke to her no more.

  185. Now, that's an interesting statement and I'm not sure if it

  186. means they wouldn't talk. If they were mad, if she was

  187. angry, or if it just means, They Mourn are no more talked about

  188. this matter. and it occurred to me, there's also a another

  189. option You know, sometimes when people are overwhelmed with

  190. grief, they just stop talking. At all.

  191. And I learned a lesson from Ruth in this fine, we'll just walk

  192. together. And it may be that the best way

  193. you can help somebody that needs you, when they grieve is just to

  194. walk with them. Don't try to tell them how

  195. everything's going to be. Okay, don't tell them our own

  196. world just be there. They'll talk when they're ready.

  197. I don't know if that's exactly what went on here, but I know

  198. that as a coping strategy and sometimes if we open our mouths

  199. we just stick our foot in it anyway.

  200. If they don't want to talk that's okay.

  201. Be with them. Walk with them.

  202. They walk along until they came to Bethlehem.

  203. It happened when they come to Bethlehem that all the city was

  204. excited because of them and the women says, is this Naomi that's

  205. fascinating to me because people don't change that much.

  206. Do they it's only been 10 years, maybe a little more and they're

  207. trying to figure out. If this is Naomi in my mind, I

  208. picture not only as this grief affected her inside, it's

  209. affected her outside. Maybe she used to care for

  210. herself baber, maybe she's grain wrinkles and she's forlorn knows

  211. what she is, but they have to ask us.

  212. This is her and she said to them, do not call me Naomi.

  213. Call me Mara for the almighty, has dealt with very bitterly

  214. with me, I went out full and the Lord has brought me home again.

  215. Empty imagine how truthful. Why do you call me Naomi?

  216. Since the Lord has testified against me and the almighty has

  217. Afflicted me Naomi literally He means Pleasant in the Hebrew,

  218. Mara you read the book of Exodus, the Waters of marah.

  219. What were they were bitter? They were poison.

  220. And it seems to me that Naomi thinks she's just poison.

  221. Everything's gone bad for her. She went out full of, she went

  222. out with hope. They had, they were trying to

  223. take care of things in the way they felt.

  224. Like they should take care of them and now she comes back and

  225. she feels like she's poisoned people around her a dying.

  226. She's a don't even call me by that anymore.

  227. Ruth is determined to stay and support.

  228. Her mother-in-law despite the fact her mother-in-law will just

  229. since she went back to her other gods.

  230. But by this point Ruth knows she has something far greater

  231. somewhere. She's going to stay.

  232. I want to tell you sometimes, the people that have influenced

  233. us the most that have perhaps brought us right to the steps of

  234. conversion and helped us understand the gospel and we put

  235. so much faith and confidence in them and then they disappoint.

  236. Maybe they fall away. I don't know.

  237. We all have our own story. The key to being a force of a

  238. Christian of a virtuous woman, a force of a woman.

  239. Like Ruth is that's not going to make us.

  240. Stop that will not cause us to leave.

  241. What else did Boaz know about Ruth that would cause her

  242. virtuous. He knew Ruth was an idol.

  243. He knew she just did what she could.

  244. In fact, in chapter 2 verse 2. It says, so Ruth, the moabite is

  245. said to Naomi. Please let me go to the field

  246. and glean heads of grain after him and whose side, I may find

  247. favor and she said to her, go my daughter, then she left and went

  248. and gleaned in the field after the Reapers.

  249. You know what The Gleaners were. They picked up scraps.

  250. In fact, according to the Old Law they were, if you had a

  251. field in a harvest, you weren't supposed to go back and harvest

  252. back through a second time. It was supposed to be left for

  253. the foreigners. It was supposed to be left for

  254. those that were poor. In fact, they weren't even

  255. supposed to harvest the corners of the fields, right?

  256. Fascinating point we could get off onto my idea of the, the

  257. social gospel. God never did tell those people

  258. you set up a Fruit Stand On The Edge and make it easy and bag

  259. everything up. So that the people that didn't

  260. have anything, we'll have something to eat.

  261. It wasn't a soup kitchen, they just handed out.

  262. He says, you provide that they can come in and work to God did

  263. not intend for us to just be takers all the time from what

  264. the other people had worked and Naomi was the kind of person she

  265. wasn't Idol. She says I can't just sit around

  266. here. I know you're grieving.

  267. I know that you need to do what you need to do but I To get out

  268. and do something please. Can I at least just go glean in

  269. the fields. She said, I want to take on the

  270. role of the Foreigner, the homeless.

  271. Like we just prayed for I want to take on the rule role of the

  272. lowest and society and that's okay with me.

  273. I'll do anything time out real quick.

  274. Got some young boys here. Maybe some young girls.

  275. When it's time for you to grow up, don't think you got to get a

  276. job like Frankie God or way got you know, at the top or whatever

  277. you got to immediately start doing this.

  278. You take, whatever you can get. I can't speak for everybody but

  279. I know a lot of people that got to where they are and they're

  280. successful now and they started out laboring sweeping the floors

  281. dewatering the site, taking a wire brush and brush in that mud

  282. off the rebar because the footings all got flooded, nobody

  283. wanted to do it. Lot of guys that I'm not doing

  284. that, I'll go home and sit at home before I'll do that.

  285. I know highly successful people that would do anything.

  286. They would have gleaned the fields.

  287. That's the that's part of what made Ruth, a virtuous force of a

  288. woman. She didn't have to say, look, I

  289. don't go see if I can get somebody, let me harvest in

  290. their field. When we go to the, get the

  291. corners before the hoarders, get them.

  292. She gleaned behind them, she left and she went and gleaned in

  293. the field. What did she do?

  294. She did what she could and in this congregation you may look

  295. and say I'd love to be able to do such and such but I don't

  296. know how to do that. I'd love to be able to do this,

  297. but I don't have the financial combat capability to do that,

  298. but what I saw this afternoon was pretty exciting.

  299. I saw people washing dishes wipe and tables.

  300. Doing what you can. When we will do what we can and

  301. not think everybody else is always going to do it for us.

  302. Then we become a Force in the Church of Bakersfield or

  303. wherever we're from what else did Boaz see?

  304. That would cause him to call Ruth virtuous.

  305. She thought of others and she shared her blessings in verse

  306. 14. It says now Boaz said to her at

  307. mealtime. Come here he eat of the bread.

  308. Dip, your piece of bread in the vinegar now.

  309. That used to sound gross to me. Honestly, I did not like vinegar

  310. least. I didn't think I did turns out

  311. pickles that vinegar in them. But dipping your bread and

  312. vinegar. And then I started the, these

  313. Greek Mediterranean restaurant started.

  314. Come around you. Put that will and vinegar and

  315. they take that kind of looks like communion bread.

  316. The pitas dip that. Wow, that's good.

  317. That's what I picture when I read this He's like, come on

  318. here, you eat with us here, have some of the vinegar, dip your

  319. bread. So she set beside the Reapers

  320. and past Parts Grant. And they and he passed Parts

  321. grain to her. And she ate and was satisfied

  322. and kept some back. Now, if you make the mistake, we

  323. sometimes making you stop reading there year, they stop

  324. and dwell on that you ever do that reading and you just stop

  325. and think about let some soaked in.

  326. You think that poor thing? She's so afraid, she's not going

  327. to get any more. She don't put some in her pocket

  328. because she knows you get hungry later and this spreads really

  329. good. Was that what she was doing?

  330. Good thing is, you don't have to read very far.

  331. It says, she took it up and went to the city and her

  332. mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned.

  333. So, she brought out and gave to her what she had kept back

  334. after. She had been satisfied, you know

  335. what she did with that food? She kept back, she thought nail

  336. me with like this. It makes me wonder did their

  337. bread tastes different, you know, did you talk about people?

  338. Say, well, I love her bread. It just like, I can't, it's

  339. breads bread, right? No, it's true.

  340. Turns out. It's not.

  341. I wonder, she wanted Naomi because this was special bread,

  342. or she just knew she'd been a hard day and know him Naomi

  343. wasn't eaten. Two things.

  344. I notice in this passage that help make Ruth be a force of a

  345. woman. First of all, she took care of

  346. her own needs. Scripture says she was satisfied

  347. first and some of you don't know how to take care of your own

  348. needs. You're so worried about making

  349. sure Naomi get some She took care of her own needs and that's

  350. okay. She still a force of a woman and

  351. she took, what was she could to set aside?

  352. And then go take care of other people, too.

  353. Don't neglect yourself as you try to be help to other people.

  354. You'll still be a virtuous woman.

  355. And in my mind, that's part of what helps you be?

  356. A force of a woman. Lest we forget guys, timeout.

  357. This is how anybody can be a force.

  358. A virtuous force in the church and she took it back.

  359. What else did Boaz know about her?

  360. That would call him cause him to call her virtuous.

  361. She knew she followed wise advice in issues of faith and

  362. issues of Liberty. If you go to chapter 2 and verse

  363. 22, now Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law.

  364. It is good. My daughter that you go out with

  365. his young women and that people do not meet you in any other

  366. field. She found out who she was with,

  367. he says, you need to stick close to him and to his people.

  368. So she stayed close by the young women of Boaz to glean until the

  369. end of The Barley Harvest and wheat Harvest she stays through

  370. both artists and she dwelt with her mother-in-law.

  371. This, I infer from this. She had choice.

  372. She could have gone any field she wanted to nobody.

  373. Her Naomi wasn't following her out there and stopping her Boaz.

  374. Encouraged her to stay with his people and he charged his men.

  375. You don't lay a hand on her. And he may be like well why

  376. would he have to say that? Very first verse of the Book of

  377. Ruth says this happens during the time of the judges.

  378. If you're not familiar with the Book of Judges, go back and read

  379. it, it's a longer read and I'm going to do that in 10 minutes.

  380. But now, look, you think the evening news is depressing, read

  381. the Book of Judges, and some of the things that happen,

  382. especially to young women that were beautiful.

  383. Poor ethic. Back to this story, you stay

  384. with my men, you don't leave their protection and young men

  385. don't lay a hand on her. Her mother-in-law says, is a

  386. good advice stick there. She had a choice.

  387. She took wise advice, it was her Liberty, go where she wanted to

  388. go? Which field she wanted to go?

  389. Whether it was with Boaz or not, she took good advice and she and

  390. she stayed Little with her mother-in-law.

  391. She kept taking care of her. She followed wise advice in

  392. faith. In Liberty.

  393. Think there's one last thing that she learned about Ruth or

  394. he knew about Ruth he knew, she chose virtuous priorities.

  395. Not wealth, not youth, not Beauty.

  396. When she made life's most important decisions.

  397. If you go into chapter 3 and, you know, we're getting a verse

  398. 11. So I'm about to run out of

  399. things. He knows about her.

  400. Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her.

  401. My daughter, shall I? Not seek security for you?

  402. That it may be well with you. What's that mean?

  403. Here's what I believe it means Naomi is like I'm not going to

  404. be here forever. I'm going to give you some

  405. advice that will help you be taken care of and it can you can

  406. have a good life, it will be well with you.

  407. Now, Boaz whose young women you were with is he not our

  408. relative? In fact he's winnowing barley

  409. tonight at the threshing floor. Why does this matter?

  410. He's a relative one things that seem to be very important about

  411. all of these cultures and probably even the culture.

  412. And Moab is that family names were everything.

  413. Still is you should have seen the text that Wade sent to me

  414. and his brothers when Charlie was a boy.

  415. That Branch name they haven't done that yet.

  416. He's doing his part. Under the Old Law.

  417. If a situation like happened in omi's family, where the men are

  418. all gone, how's the family name? What's going to carry that?

  419. And if you know the Old Law, you know, that's how their property.

  420. That's how they had land. That was, it was territories,

  421. were based on this name. She says, he's part of the

  422. family. In fact, he's wondering barley

  423. therefore, wash yourself and anoint yourself put on your best

  424. garment and go down to the threshing.

  425. Floor Ruth, you need to clean up You need to know yourself.

  426. It's like a perfume. And one to make yourself known

  427. to that. I do not want you to make

  428. yourself known to the man till he's finished eating and

  429. drinking you just go down there and you wait.

  430. Wonder what time. She went down there.

  431. She says, then it shall be when he lies down that you shall

  432. notice the place where he lies, you shall go in uncover, his

  433. feet and lie down and he will tell you what you should do.

  434. Now I got a film that's what the way they courted in Moab.

  435. I know if anybody said that to any of us and this Society, we

  436. think, what are you crazy? And she said to her, all that

  437. you say to me, I will do. She's Takin advice in faith and

  438. in Liberty. So she went down to the

  439. threshing floor did, according to all that her mother-in-law

  440. instructed her. And after Boaz had eaten and

  441. drunk and heart. His heart was cheerful.

  442. He went to lie down at the end of the Heap of grain, stop,

  443. right there. Just second I like this verse,

  444. because Bull. A seems like a good guy.

  445. Seems like a honorable guy who does a lot of things for good.

  446. Guys you ever feel like I don't know if I'm was working too

  447. much. I filmed, I've had some nights

  448. that I got so tired. I just laid down there on the

  449. floor in the office and then I ask myself, are my priorities,

  450. right. I'm sleeping in my office at

  451. night, and I read this about Boaz, I'm like, well, there's

  452. Godly men that did that in the passed some time Harvest

  453. happens. And you just sleep.

  454. When you're tired and you get back up and work.

  455. It's okay, can't be year round. We got to keep everything in the

  456. right priority. She came softly, uncovered his

  457. feet and she laid down. Now, it happened at midnight.

  458. What time did she go lay down, I guess I'm not the only dead

  459. sleeper. It's been a while.

  460. She uncovered his feet, she laid down there.

  461. How long is she? Wait, it's after midnight that

  462. he was startled and he turned himself and there a woman was

  463. lying at his feet. She's not the one that woke him

  464. up. Now, some of you might have

  465. woken up soon as somebody pulled the covers off your feet, He's

  466. tired. He realizes when he goes to roll

  467. over after being startled, that she's there.

  468. He said, who are you? And she said, I am Ruth.

  469. Your maidservant, take your maidservant under your wing for

  470. you or a close relative. This is in here.

  471. If you haven't figured it out yet, she's saying I will be your

  472. wife. If you will be my kinsman

  473. redeemer. So that we keep the family name

  474. going for Naomi. Then he said, blessed are you of

  475. the Lord? My daughter.

  476. For you, have shown more kindness at the end than at the

  477. beginning. In that you did not go after

  478. young men, whether poor or Rich, Now I assume Boaz new girls

  479. didn't like him or something because he's blown away.

  480. He knows all this other stuff about how she's been Takin Care

  481. of Naomi and all the things she's done.

  482. And he had, he said, your you're showing more kindness by

  483. offering to be my wife, then in all the other things you've

  484. done, Because you've where your priority is placed and now my

  485. daughter don't forget, do not fear.

  486. I will do for you all that you request for all the people of my

  487. town know that you are a force of a woman.

  488. You're a virtuous woman. Now, I'm not even going to go

  489. through the rest of this story. You may be somewhat familiar

  490. with it. There's another one and he

  491. thinks he wants the land but he doesn't want the wife and so it

  492. all turns around and Boaz gets that.

  493. But here's what I do want to run fast forward to some of you know

  494. this already and some of you may not she ended up having a son.

  495. To carry the family name. That son became one of the

  496. grandparents of King David. And she is in the lineage of

  497. Jesus Christ, the Messiah. A moabite.

  498. The law says a moabite, couldn't even go into the temple to the

  499. tenth generation because of some of the issues they had with the

  500. moabites. What did Jesus is Greg?

  501. Greg, Greg, Greg, Greg Greg, Greg grandmas Couldn't even

  502. Worship in the temple and we're reminded that his blood of

  503. reconciliation flew. Black flew belt flowed backwards

  504. from the cross as well as forward.

  505. That's fascinating to me. And all it could have been done

  506. a million ways. But God carried this out through

  507. a virtuous woman, a force of a woman who was willing to leave

  508. Moab and turned herself to the people of God.

  509. Why did moas know about Ruth that would call her virtuous

  510. Ruth married into the people of God and she was converted she

  511. refused to go back. Blame God when tragedy struck

  512. today. If you want to be a force of a

  513. Christian in Bakersfield or wherever.

  514. Ever we're from. We have to be converted.

  515. because, as much as I love, Whoever was instrumental in my

  516. conversion and you insert the name for you.

  517. If they fall away, that's not where my faith lying.

  518. If they die and they pass away, I'm not going to blame God that

  519. that tragedy struck. I am converted.

  520. That's a way to be a force of a Christian.

  521. She did not lose faith when her family or a mentor became

  522. bitter. I've had some people in my life

  523. that turned. I don't know if you call it,

  524. bitter, but they just turned their back on what was truth and

  525. right. and they chose things that directly, if contradicted

  526. what the word of God says, And you got a choice when that

  527. happens. Am I going to follow them and

  528. stay with them? Or am I going to say bye and

  529. stay where God is, even if I lost this person or these people

  530. that were so key in my life, if I want to be a force of a

  531. Christian, I'm not going to follow them.

  532. I'm going to stay with truth. No matter what happens and I'm

  533. not going to be idle Ruth was an idol.

  534. She did what she could and I'm going to be the same way, it

  535. doesn't matter if the trash needs to get taken out.

  536. If somebody just needs to help the older ladies put their stuff

  537. in their car, it's vacuuming the Floors, if it's wiping down a

  538. toilet. I'm going to do whatever I can.

  539. Well God find greater things for us to do very likely but he may

  540. not, we'll do what we can. She thought of others and shared

  541. her blessings and mentioned it this morning with Zacchaeus, And

  542. I'll just say it coming up again.

  543. This afternoon, this is Freudian, I didn't intend for it

  544. to happen but one of my greatest concerns is that we as Americans

  545. are so blessed and rather than it, helping with our generosity,

  546. we began to try to. I need, how much am I going to

  547. need to retire? And what?

  548. And, and we accumulate, and I'm not saying that's all wrong.

  549. As Ruth took care of her own needs, she was satisfied, but

  550. she also thought of others, there's got to be that balance

  551. of Our blessings with those who stand in need, she followed the

  552. wise, advice in faith. And in Liberty, I know I've had

  553. to face some decisions in my life that there was no Bible

  554. verse for anybody to give me. And then we get a, we get to an

  555. issue of Liberty. Some things the Bible tells us

  556. plane and it's like, I just needed somebody to show me.

  557. I'm like, okay, that's what we do.

  558. Other things aren't like that, it's an issue of Liberty.

  559. Talk to people that you respect spiritually, the older ones.

  560. Be willing to follow that. Advice in issues of Liberty,

  561. Ruth chose, virtuous, priorities, not wealth.

  562. Not youth, not Beauty. She put her faith, we're things.

  563. And so I ask you today, if this doesn't describe your faith, are

  564. you ready to be current be converted and be this a child

  565. like this. If you're not a Christian, we

  566. talked about it this morning. You have to hear the word of

  567. God. You have to be willing to

  568. believe it. Have to be willing to change

  569. your life. That's repentance from

  570. self-willed and God's will to confess our faith.

  571. Before men, that Jesus is the son of God and be baptized

  572. according to Galatians 3:27. If you're a Christian today and

    Galatians 3:27

  573. you desire of, perhaps the prayers of the church that you

  574. say I just need to get things together and I know I can pray

  575. to God and he's just and faithful to forgive me and

  576. cleanse me from all unrighteousness but I want the

  577. prayers of the church. One of them know what I'm

  578. battling here. Then we want to pray with you

  579. and for you if there's one of either class won't you come

  580. home? We stand what we see.
