  1. Good morning, everyone is great. Day to be here, to worship, God,

  2. together to sing his praise, to put him back in his place that

  3. he needs to be in our lives to put him first.

  4. And this is a great place to be to, to have everything the way

  5. it should be at least for a day, at least for a couple hours in

  6. our week. He is the first and most

  7. important thing in this room, he is the first and most important

  8. thing we're going to talk about and study about think about sing

  9. about and pray about. Out and he is first here today.

  10. And I know he's been glorified by what's been done here today

  11. and I pray that he'll be continued to be glorified in the

  12. confession. And the agreement that we have

  13. on his word, as we study through the book of Galatians.

  14. If you want to turn your Bible there, in order to have the funk

  15. big enough on the screen to accommodate our whole audience,

  16. I need to have only a little bit at a time.

  17. So you may benefit by having the scripture in front of you as it

  18. might be a little confusing. If they're just Snippets at a

  19. time. You might want to have Relations

  20. one in front of you. We're going to walk through the

  21. whole chapter today and we just came off of Hebrews and there's

  22. a very similar thread here, going through the book of

  23. Galatians as we cover in Hebrews.

  24. So I think this is a good time to to walk through it.

  25. And we may have several of our other teachers who pick up where

  26. we leave off today and Galatians, but we'll be going

  27. through the book of Galatians over the next several months.

  28. So, in this book, I have we're going to do a quick overview

  29. this And maybe a little outline and things like that.

  30. Galatians, chapter 1 is mostly about Paul and his conversion

    Galatians 1 chapter mention

  31. who he is and the defense of Paul himself.

  32. So a little bit of background for this letter as we open up.

  33. Paul and Barnabas set up several churches, and the Roman province

  34. or region of galatia. So, this is not written to a

  35. single church. This is not a city of galatia,

  36. it's a region of galatia. So, Paul and Barnabas went and

  37. set up those churches in the first trip in Acts chapter 13,

    Acts 13 chapter mention

  38. through verse through chapter 14, we read about this where the

  39. churches were set up and their second trip featuring Silas.

  40. When he went with them, where they went and visited, the

  41. Brethren is Acts chapter 16. Now it is estimated by Scholars

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  42. that Paul was about 15 years into his Christian Life at this

  43. point, so he's established and he's going to go through and

  44. describe his conversion a little bit here.

  45. So he's a seasoned man in the faith and and he is he's

  46. prepared. Now, at this point to defend

  47. himself and to give the if affirmations as a preacher of

  48. the Gospel that he's going to give The whole premise of this

  49. letter is that there were judaizers basically Jewish

  50. people are a people who wanted to press the Jewish law on the

  51. Christians in this time. So as we read in Hebrews, they

  52. were thinking about going back. This is a similar thread.

  53. There are judaizing teachers, who are pushing these galatian

  54. people these galatian Christians to go back to the Old Law And

  55. basically to tack on well you can be a Christian but Paul's

  56. Missing a couple things, you gotta, you gotta also do this.

  57. You also have to be circumcised. You also have to really do this,

  58. if you want to be in God's family.

  59. And this debate is featured in The Book of Acts chapter 15

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  60. where there's a big kind of debate coming together and

  61. budding heads in in Antioch. And what's happening at this

  62. point is the gospel was first preached to the Jews, but at

  63. this point the jute, the gospel has gained so much traction with

  64. the outside world outside of the Jewish Nation.

  65. The now there's a conflict going on, it's no longer the Jews are

  66. God's Has only special people, it is a seed, there's a seed of

  67. faith that is going to live on through God's people and the

  68. Jews don't like that. Necessarily one of the first

  69. things these judaizers and teachers do is they try to

  70. discredit Paul himself and his apostleship in order to

  71. undermine his teachings of faith in Christ?

  72. And one of the things they leaned on is that this doctrine

  73. of Faith leads to loose living. So we're going to go through

  74. this throughout the letter. There's a little background.

  75. And I think if there's one thing csis statement, one theme or big

  76. picture statement for this letter.

  77. If you're trying to get the essence of the book of

  78. Galatians, is this verse in Galatians, 5:1, where Paul says

  79. Stand Fast, therefore in the liberty and the Freedom by which

  80. Christ has made us free? And do not be entangled again

  81. with the Yoke of bondage, that yoke of bondage.

  82. He's talking about the Old law and what they're trying to tie

  83. people in and bind them up in. And so there's the whole theme

  84. of the book that we want to live free.

  85. We want to live at peace and joyful and the freedoms that

  86. Christ has given us. And so we'll get more into what

  87. that means. Later on the letter and I read

  88. this one, quote about the book of Galatians.

  89. One man said, Galatians is a passionate letter, the

  90. outpouring of the soul of a preacher on fire for his Lord.

  91. Deeply committed to bring his hearers to an understanding of

  92. what saving faith is. That's a well said, here's a

  93. quick outline today. Are we're going to cover just

  94. about the first couple points in this outline and it's going to

  95. start out with Paul's defense of his own apostleship.

  96. We're going to do an introduction before verse 11 and

  97. chapter one, but around the next whole chapter is going to be

  98. defending. Paul's apostleship.

  99. And the first section, you might call the divine origin of his

  100. gospel. So where did call Paul's message

  101. come from came straight? From God, we're going to talk

  102. about his relationship to the apostles, and how Peter and his

  103. early years. As a Christian, we're going to

  104. talk about the Jerusalem Council, how he was sanctioned

  105. by James cephas and John. We're going to talk about the

  106. rebuke of Peter. This is a, this is an

  107. interesting event where one of the other Apostles gets stood up

  108. to his face. It says, and will learn a lesson

  109. on Suffocation by faith. The second section is going to

  110. begin in chapter 3 where Paul had been begins defending.

  111. The gospel of justification by faith.

  112. So where they wanted to be justified by The Works of the

  113. law and circumcision of the flesh.

  114. The message that Paul brings is in, he's defending is

  115. justification by faith. And now go on through about the

  116. end of chapter 4, he's going to give five arguments, he's going

  117. to give the personal argument At the scriptural, the Practical,

  118. the sentimental, and the allegorical arguments, all

  119. things we will cover and lessons to come.

  120. And finally, this is where all of the applications going to

  121. really hit and it's going to land.

  122. Whoever gets this chapter is going to have a lot to to chew

  123. on into work through because chapters 5, then the beginning

  124. of six is all about. He's done his defense and now he

  125. gets to move on to the good stuff.

  126. He gets to move away from all these.

  127. He has to take care of and finally into now stand fast in

  128. the liberty and the freedom. He's gonna say and it's a

  129. liberty that exclude circumcision.

  130. It's a liberty, that fulfills the Old Law, they don't have to

  131. worry about the looseness that they're accused of because they

  132. are fulfilling the Old Law in the way that they're living.

  133. Now as Christians, they will live in Liberty, which is one

  134. led by the spirit. We're going to talk about and

  135. Liberty with a sense of Of responsibility.

  136. And after that there will be a conclusion to this letter.

  137. Okay. So now here we are going to

  138. start in Galatians chapter 1, beginning in verse 1.

    Galatians 1 chapter mention

  139. It says they're appalled and Apostle.

  140. The word Apostle means sent from God and he's saying not from men

  141. nor through man but through Jesus Christ and God the Father

  142. who raised him from the dead, Okay?

  143. So pop pole is starting right after he says his name and his

  144. title. He's immediately jumping into a

  145. defensive. He's saying, I am not or my

  146. gospel. My apostleship is not from Men.

  147. I didn't get this stuff from any of the other Apostles.

  148. I didn't get the gospel from the apostles.

  149. I didn't get the permission to be an apostle, from the from the

  150. other Apostles. He says, I didn't get that

  151. through any man, but through Jesus Christ himself and God,

  152. the Father, who raised him from the dead.

  153. If you remember, Paul's conversion in the book of Acts,

  154. he is met by Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus and he has

  155. stopped, he's blinded. There's this whole scene where

  156. he just, he Goes down and he has, he stopped in his tracks.

  157. He is given blindness as a, as a, as a comparison between his

  158. spiritual blindness and his physical blindness.

  159. He's shown that he cannot see. And once he has converted, he

  160. regains his sight and he is able to go on and teach the gospel.

  161. So he is met by Jesus Christ himself when Jesus says, why are

  162. you persecuting me? He didn't get his apostleship by

  163. the laying on of hands or through the other Peter James or

  164. John or any of them. He got it straight from God.

  165. He says but through Jesus Christ and God the Father Now, God

  166. wants us to first know, in this letter, the first thing he

  167. pointed out. He makes it clear that he raised

  168. Jesus Christ from the dead, the God, who we are going to talk

  169. about and the gospel that we're going to talk about is one who

  170. raised Jesus from the dead first.

  171. Now, this is important because Paul is going to talk about

  172. spiritual resurrection and Romans chapter 6, God physically

    Romans 6 chapter mention

  173. resurrected Jesus proving that he can.

  174. Spiritually. Resurrect us proven that he can

  175. spiritually. Bring us back from the dead and

  176. as we learned in Hebrews chapter 6 that he can cleanse us from

    Hebrews 6 chapter mention

  177. dead works. So our God is a God that raises

  178. the dead and many different ways.

  179. Paul himself was raised to walk in newness of life.

  180. We get to share in that. And ultimately, we can trust Our

  181. God because of this statement. If our god did not raised Jesus

  182. from the dead, we would have no confirmation that we can be

  183. raised from the dead. It's like if if you were to

  184. okay, there's this product called a saw stop and in

  185. construction a table saw is a very dangerous tool.

  186. So what they do is they put this tool called a soft stop on the

  187. blade mechanism and motor. And if that saw blade, it's got

  188. technology on it. That that saw blade touches any

  189. skin. It'll immediately stopped and

  190. all All you will get, you won't cut your finger off, you'll get

  191. a little prick. Maybe we'll blood.

  192. Like you just drew blood with the blood draw.

  193. That's all. It'll happen.

  194. They've got this amazing technology now made no.

  195. Imagine if the person who invented that technology said

  196. it'll work but I'm not going to test it on myself.

  197. I'm not going to I'm not going to put my own finger risk.

  198. You would you would question their product, but when you

  199. watch those guys who invented that product, the saw stop, they

  200. stick their finger on there and ban the mechanism stops.

  201. They still have their finger intact, you believe them and you

  202. trust them with your hand, with your saw because they prude with

  203. their own. Jesus was the first fruits from

  204. the dead. He came and proved God's message

  205. was valid because I'm going to sacrifice my own son.

  206. I'm going to sacrifice my own life.

  207. So you can now trust that your life is in good hands, your

  208. spirit, your eternal life is in good hands.

  209. You can trust me. God, put his own arm and Isaiah

  210. the in Isaiah it says that the arm of God, extended to us, he

  211. put his own arm on the line, it goes on to say, so he gives us

  212. the introduction and he says, and all the Brethren who are

  213. with me, so to the churches of galatia.

  214. Again here we're not talking to one church, but Churches and

  215. region of galatia. And I think that's likely

  216. because this problem it's spread so widely than it needed to go

  217. out to all the churches. Now, when he says, and all the

  218. Brethren who are with me and many letters, he'll give an

  219. introduction sometimes it includes like Timothy and so

  220. maybe it was written along with Timothy.

  221. I don't believe this is him and his co-workers writing together

  222. and the Brethren who are with him.

  223. I believe this is a core jollity.

  224. I believe it's a It's of showing respect and a greeting from the

  225. Brethren. Not necessarily.

  226. I'm writing this note this letter with the Brethren, and I

  227. say that because as you read on, in verse 6, he's going to use a

  228. lot of I statements, I Marvel, I am amazed, and I cannot believe.

  229. And those denote that Paul is writing this from himself.

  230. And I think this who all the Brethren is is more of a

  231. formality and a show of Christian love and writing that

  232. he's including the and who are with him.

  233. Verse 3. He says grace to you and peace

  234. from God, the father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

  235. Some of the most moving and Powerful Concepts in the Bible

  236. are written in the introductions and the closing of letters.

  237. Have you ever noticed that they often don't get a lot of

  238. attention? Because it might not take a ton

  239. of time to explain the essence of Grace and peace, for example,

  240. I could say grace is unmerited favor.

  241. We get something from God. We do not deserve.

  242. We never earned. Doesn't take a long time to

  243. understand that. Peace is the comfort and the joy

  244. that we get from knowing that it doesn't take a long time to

  245. understand and explain the essence of something.

  246. It takes longer to explain the ins and outs of working through

  247. sin. And the pain, we may cause how

  248. to handle the communion responsibility, how to handle

  249. divorce biblically or maybe an unbelieving spouse.

  250. It takes longer to explain those things. but peace and grace are

  251. often more easily felt than explain, because I cannot

  252. explain to you fully and you can explain to me fully the depths

  253. of fear, the depths of concern, when you really realize That you

  254. were in danger of spending eternity away from God.

  255. I cannot explain to you the internal feelings that that

  256. brings in the fear, and the reality, and the Soul separation

  257. from God. And even once you've joined and

  258. once you start to follow that, God, the continual failures.

  259. We experience. I can't explain that to you and

  260. you can't explain that. To me.

  261. You can't explain to me the depths the full depth of the

  262. pain, you felt. And your life's experience that

  263. bring a longing for grace and for peace in your life that

  264. extends beyond what you've seen here.

  265. I think we get to the point that we almost forget that there is a

  266. Time coming and we can't imagine that there is a Time coming when

  267. we can have true Grace and true. Peace.

  268. And that because of that we can have confidence today that we

  269. have that grace extended to us now.

  270. And in eternity, now piece can spill over into our into our

  271. physical Life, as we prepare for an eternal life of peace.

  272. I think we forget that. Because as Paul says, he fights

  273. that inner fight all the time. Paul said I beat my body into

  274. subjection. I War Within Myself.

  275. And so it's hard to fully, explain the depths that make

  276. this statement that Grace comes to us.

  277. And peace comes to us, it's hard to contact to communicate that

  278. in a few words. When it's a life of experience

  279. that, you know, that on the inside, when the people on the

  280. day of Pentecost were approached with the gospel for the first

  281. time, they learned that they were enemies with God that they

  282. were enemies. And had an enemy that had a

  283. legion of angels. Twelve thousand Angels ready to

  284. just wipe them all out when they realized.

  285. I'm at odds. I'm an enemy on the other side

  286. of the line from God, they said, what do we do?

  287. Men and Brethren. They are fearful.

  288. And at the start of the New Testament, he could have been a

  289. vindictive, God. He could have been an Angry God

  290. but he starts out almost every letter.

  291. With these words, grace to you. And peace from God, the father,

  292. and our Lord. Jesus Christ, not God, the

  293. father, and a hardened vindictive, Jesus, the son who

  294. went through a lot. And so, he's just not really

  295. here to entertain you guys. Now, And not a loving Jesus who

  296. would sacrifice, but a bitter father, who wanted revenge for

  297. the suffering of his son. No both God the father and the

  298. Lord, Jesus Christ are coming United with united front of good

  299. news that they're offering Grace and peace.

  300. Praise God for his goodness. Despite the line that we drew,

  301. he says this father. And our Lord, Jesus Christ who

  302. gave himself for our sins, that he might Deliver Us from the

  303. present evil age. This word deliver doesn't mean

  304. delivering from the presence of, but from the power of, we're

  305. delivered from the power of this evil present age.

  306. Now, there are many perspectives on this world, we're living in

  307. right. Now, many people could say there

  308. are so many Souls out there who are good and you are seeking and

  309. longing for the gospel who have a need for the gospel.

  310. And that's true. You could also say the world is

  311. evil in there. So many bad things around me.

  312. That is true. You could also say, you know,

  313. there's a lot of people who are trying to do good to improve our

  314. world, to environmentally improve things, to try to do

  315. good things in the world, for, for homeless and needy.

  316. That's true. Ew.

  317. But the big umbrella that we live under, after all those

  318. things might be true as we live in evil age.

  319. We live in an evil age because I think it's as simple as this.

  320. The devil's influence is over this age.

  321. The devil's influence caught and the pain and the suffering from

  322. sin. When sin entered the world has

  323. created an evil age, no matter what good.

  324. We might see here, the dividing line is because there's going to

  325. be an age where the devil no longer has influence with a

  326. devil is banished away from here.

  327. So, we are in a present evil age.

  328. I think we forget or can't really fathom a life without

  329. this kind of evil influence. It's coming, there will be a

  330. time but right now, we get deliverance from this present

  331. evil age in the power of the devil's influence, according to

  332. the will of God according to the will of our God and Father to

  333. whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

  334. You know this statement Glory forever and ever as proprietary

  335. proprietary to God No other entity in the world can say that

  336. they will be glorified forever and ever.

  337. Our God is the only one that can be and will be glorified forever

  338. and ever. A lot of times we use hyperbole,

  339. you know, we say, I've been going through this seems like

  340. forever or I've been or this is going been going on for forever

  341. and ever. It has it.

  342. There's only one person who is forever and ever and you has

  343. been and he will be glorified forever and ever, Our God Alone

  344. can claim that Verse 6. Paul is going to jump in after

  345. his introduction here. Now, he says, I Marvel that you

  346. are turning away so soon from him who called you and the grace

  347. of Christ. Now, you notice many of the

  348. letters. He starts with a thank you.

  349. I'm so thankful, and every time I think of you, I'm thankful and

  350. I'm blessed to know you and all these things, Paul here jumps,

  351. right into his letter. And he's it's because he is

  352. frustrated, there's a problem and he needs to get right.

  353. He says that you are turning away.

  354. So soon. It's estimated.

  355. This letter is around 5060 ad, this is the church's Nova know

  356. that long he says. So soon from him, who called you

  357. in the grace of Christ. Now, why in the world did you

  358. just jump straight into this? Did to this to this criticism

  359. and we have to remember that God always has the best interest of

  360. everyone involved. So it is best for these people

  361. that they hear a direct aggressive message from Paul.

  362. And I wonder kind of why that is we, you know, we learn from the

  363. New Testament that went that to some we are to be gentle and

  364. long-suffering and and to be more patient as we coax them

  365. along and with others. It says to snatch out of the

  366. fire. It seems like Paul here is going

  367. with more of the snatch mentality.

  368. And it's, it's often treating The people in the New Testament

  369. are often treated that way with this type of problem, when they

  370. are going back to the Old Law or holding people to the Old Law.

  371. And that's because they are trying to take away the saving

  372. freedom and so he is angry about that.

  373. He's frustrated by that, they're trying to just take away the

  374. saving freedom. and I believe, maybe it's because This is a

  375. mindset issue, some sins. Take time to overcome and

  376. struggle, back and forth, you win some, you lose some but

  377. understanding accepting what truth is and we're truth come

  378. from and where you need to put, your faith is not an issue, that

  379. takes a lot of back and forth and struggling win loss.

  380. We need to be snatched away from him and tality here.

  381. And the Paul, the Apostle, one of them to be snatched away from

  382. a mentality. You cannot turn back to buying

  383. things from the Old Law away from the grace, that is in

  384. Christ. Goes on to say they're being

  385. called from the grace of Christ to a different gospel, which is

  386. not another gospel, but there are some who trouble you and

  387. want to pervert which means to distort or turn around the

  388. gospel of Christ. And the old King James, it says

  389. another gospel here, instead of different and there's two words

  390. used there is another of the same kind and then there's

  391. another of a different kind and he says you haven't got another

  392. Gospel of the same. Find.

  393. You've got a gospel of a different kind, it's not even

  394. gospel, you're not getting good news at all.

  395. There are some who trouble you with this gospel and want to

  396. distort. The pure simple gospel of

  397. Christ. Why would someone want to

  398. pervert the gospel of Christ? I think to understand that we

  399. might need to think about a couple reasons.

  400. Number one, I believe the gospel offends, our pride, it tells us

  401. the gospel tells us that we need a savior that we cannot save

  402. ourselves. We need a savior.

  403. We are hopeless. And for a lot of men, they don't

  404. want the help of other people. I know, speaking for men,

  405. specifically. We don't want anybody's help.

  406. We got this, we can handle it. It offends, our pride that we

  407. can't save ourselves. I can't save my family.

  408. It gives us no credit and instead gives credit to the

  409. saving work of Jesus Christ. The Gospel offends, our pride,

  410. the gospel offends, our wisdom We are saved by something that

  411. many men call foolish. Why would God all infinite God,

  412. die, a humiliating your disgraceful death?

  413. Why wouldn't that God stand up for himself?

  414. You know, one of the most common phrases I hear my class for my

  415. students. They kind of say jokingly

  416. sometimes but personally I wouldn't take that they say that

  417. all the time personally, not. I would not me, I wouldn't take

  418. that and there's this common idea that if somebody says

  419. anything to you, that's that as somewhat disrespectful.

  420. You got to stand up for yourself.

  421. You can't take that. I heard one person it was on a

  422. podcast saying I lost a lot of respect and I lost all respect

  423. for Christians because I realized how little they will

  424. defend themselves. And what I mean by that is I

  425. think what Jesus intended of us. We don't have to war and fight

  426. with people. It's not productive to fight

  427. with people who aren't going to listen.

  428. But the reality is, a lot of people see God's plan as

  429. foolishness we learn. I believe it's in the book of

  430. Romans. Romans, it's foolishness to

  431. those who are perishing. And certainly, I believe the

  432. gospel offends, our knowledge. It goes against many and every

  433. natural law that we see around us that a dead man.

  434. Jesus rose from the dead and lives eternally now at the side

  435. of the father that goes against our knowledge or study or

  436. science that we are familiar with.

  437. And so I believe this gospel offends in many ways and so

  438. there are people who want to distort or pervert the gospel I

  439. love Christ for many different reasons, but even if we or an

  440. angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we

  441. have preached to you, let him be accursed.

  442. This is a strong statement. If we pull saying even, I if me

  443. or any people who are with me or even if an angel from heaven,

  444. Now, that's a big statement. That's overstepping, you know,

  445. they revered Angels, because Angels delivered God's word in

  446. the Old Testament. As we learned Hebrews, Angels,

  447. were judge forces of judgment and they could destroy.

  448. And so, when he basically points his finger up and says, if there

  449. isn't even any Angels Spiritual Beings, who preach a different

  450. gospel than what we have preached to you, let him be

  451. accursed or damned or judged, that is a serious.

  452. Statement, as we have said before.

  453. So, I now say, again, if anyone preaches, any other gospel to

  454. you than what you have received, let him be accursed misapplied,

  455. then specifically, to the context of a gospel that was

  456. drawing them back to the old law, but are also applies today,

  457. there are different gospels. There are people who have

  458. claimed to have been given a message from God.

  459. And cave and tablets. Even if they might teach some

  460. good things. There is a curse placed on

  461. anyone who would detract or turn away others.

  462. From the pure simple word of God.

  463. And so you might say how can we know them?

  464. What to trust if Paul saying even if I teach it, how do we

  465. know what to listen to remember. This is by inspiration.

  466. Holy Spirit, he's got this. It's also confirmed by this holy

  467. spirit so you don't have to worry about who to trust because

  468. back then they were confirming this message with signs and

  469. wonders things that you could not doubt.

  470. You could not question if you have a sincere heart.

  471. So, you don't have to worry, or wonder, who can I trust?

  472. And personally, I need God's pure simple word.

  473. Recently, I've got to listen to a lot of podcast and, you know,

  474. from any areas of life and people have got opinions about

  475. everything and there are people on both sides of that opinion.

  476. You will debate for hours, about that opinion about everything

  477. from parenting to Fitness to religion to personal

  478. Improvement. I'm so glad I get the pure

  479. simple word of God and then when I listen to this, when I read

  480. this, nothing else can talk to me.

  481. Nothing else can pollute that. I'm reminded this week of how

  482. serious that is because I was studying in my classroom with a

  483. couple of students who were in there for, for a Bible Club

  484. where they come in and want to talk about the word except

  485. Thursday. And, and one of the questions

  486. when I'm brought up is they said We are supposed to be out doing

  487. God's Will and we have to be doing we required to do that.

  488. How do I know that? I'm not teaching people wrong.

  489. And the sincerity of that question.

  490. The honesty of that question is obvious.

  491. These are innocent young kids who are who are just developing

  492. their own minds. That made me angry for all of

  493. the misinformation for all of the mistruths and wrong.

  494. That is out there because The word is simple.

  495. There are so many things out there to detract, and to

  496. distract and to turn people away from that, it made me Furious

  497. and sad. When that kid asked that

  498. question because I know there's a good chance, there's some of

  499. those kids who are in there are going to follow another way.

  500. And so Jesus said, in Matthew 18 verse 6, whoever causes one of

    Matthew 18:6

  501. these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better

  502. for a millstone were hung around his neck and he He were drowned

  503. in the depths of the sea, a millstones, a giant concrete.

  504. Wait, he said it'd be better. If one of them was Chuck to the

  505. bottom of the ocean without hung around their neck.

  506. We have a responsibility, I have a responsibility to teach God's

  507. word and truth and hopefully in Simplicity sometimes we need to

  508. have conversations that get a little deeper and so I'm not

  509. saying anything that isn't just plain and simple is is wrong.

  510. We need to have all the conversations.

  511. But the Simplicity of God's word can never be detracted from

  512. because it is intended to be a message of Purity for all

  513. generations, to never be distorted.

  514. He goes on to say in Galatians, 1:10, for do I now persuade men

  515. or God? If I was really trying to get

  516. people on my side when I have said something, like, if anyone

  517. preaches to you I'm gonna put a damnation and a curse on him

  518. even an angel. When I say that, if I was trying

  519. to be a man pleaser or a men, Persuader, no, you don't talk

  520. like that. He says, do I now persuade men

  521. or God obviously God, or do I seek to please men, obviously,

  522. not Not for if I still pleased men, I would not be a

  523. bondservant of Christ. He says, basically you can't do

  524. both, we are going to have a primary concern of one or the

  525. other. We're going to be either

  526. concerned about what all people think.

  527. We're going to be concerned about what God thinks.

  528. There's really always one or the other in our lives.

  529. I believe. He says, I would not be a

  530. monster of. I could not be a servant a true

  531. servant of Christ. If that was the case.

  532. May we work on shifting, our Focus from not being so worried

  533. about what other people think. Doesn't mean that we're not good

  534. and kind of people, obviously we have to learn people and treat

  535. them well. But ultimately who were trying

  536. to please Is our God. This is where he begins his very

  537. pointed defense of his apostleship and he's wanting to

  538. wanting to show that this message was from God.

  539. He goes on to say in verse 11 but I make known to you

  540. Brethren. That the gospel which was

  541. preached by me is not according to man.

  542. So this is kind of his whole what?

  543. He's focusing. His next several verses on is

  544. he's trying to convince them that the gospel is not from man.

  545. For I neither received it from man, nor was I, I taught it but

  546. it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

  547. Again, nobody can say that unless they are able to back up

  548. their word with Miracles and signs and wonders.

  549. Okay. So Paul was able to say that and

  550. the apostles were able to say that For you.

  551. I've heard of my former conduct and Judaism, how I persecuted

  552. the Church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it.

  553. This is in direct contact or a direct relation to what he just

  554. said. It's not according to man

  555. because you know how I was persecuting this movement.

  556. I did not come up with this. I did not orchestrate this

  557. because clearly I was trying to destroy it wouldn't make any

  558. sense for me for this to be my idea of that was the one

  559. fighting against it. Verse 14.

  560. And I advanced in Judaism Beyond many of my contemporaries in my

  561. own Nation being more exceedingly zealous for the

  562. traditions of my father's. Put yourself in Paul's shoes for

  563. a second. We can all be saved.

  564. I leave. We are saved.

  565. Just like Paul was saved, but not every conversion and not.

  566. Every you say not every response, to the gospel, is the

  567. same. So as we sympathize and

  568. understand Paul's argument here, we have to understand what he

  569. went through. Not many people shift, this

  570. severe of a direction sometimes, if our routine gets messed up,

  571. we get all flustered. Much less when our whole world

  572. gets turned upside down. Like Paul's did, he said my

  573. whole youth? I was growing, I was improving,

  574. I was at the top of my game. He was exceedingly zealous for

  575. God's work if this was about self-promotion.

  576. He would have stayed where things were good.

  577. People try to undermine Paul, but if he was really trying to

  578. seek his own needs, he would have stayed where it was good.

  579. Because in this judaic system, we have to remember, it wasn't

  580. just a religion, it was a societal system.

  581. And so he was able to have a high place in that Society

  582. because of what he was doing. He was able to have a good job.

  583. Many people today if their preachers their work isn't

  584. considered like, it's Not like I socially.

  585. Oh that's a great job. You have, you know it's not like

  586. they are just chomping at the bit to have a career where

  587. they're moving up in the world of preaching.

  588. It's a service people who preach do it because they would do it

  589. for free if they haven't with the right heart.

  590. That's not the case for Paul and not date.

  591. It was a good job. They likely would have been

  592. probably paid well, socially respected, unlike our society

  593. today. So imagine being on track for

  594. both your God's service and social winner.

  595. Like Paul was And then have everything just crumble in front

  596. of you. The emotion behind this.

  597. It's interesting here. That Paul says he was

  598. exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my father's, he's

  599. able to admit that his zealousness had turned into

  600. something that wasn't zealous for God's will anymore.

  601. We know that he was zealous for God but he's able to admit he

  602. was now the zealous for the traditions and it's hard to

  603. remove from that verse 15. But When it pleased, God, who

  604. separated me from my mother's womb and called me through his

  605. grace. To reveal his son in me that I

  606. might preach him among the Gentiles.

  607. I did not immediately confirm with flesh and blood.

  608. So we go back now. This God separated him from his

  609. mother's womb, this is highlighting the Eternal.

  610. And for known purpose of God. This is highlighting God's plan.

  611. Before Paul was even born God separated him from his mother's

  612. womb from the time, he was born and called him.

  613. Through his grace, God had a plan through all of this.

  614. He might say, you know, why why didn't God get Paul started

  615. Young on this process? Why didn't he grooming like

  616. Jesus? When he was 12 years old?

  617. He was doing his father's will. None of this plan would have

  618. worked out the way that God wanted in Les.

  619. Paul had been through what he had been through two, then bring

  620. the gospel like he did. And this passage, it says this,

  621. he is separated from his mother's womb.

  622. This denotes a place of Safety and Security.

  623. He just said, He was locked in and zealous for the traditions

  624. of his father's. So when he then says he was

  625. separated from his mother's womb, I believe he's talking

  626. about the Eternal purpose, but I believe he's also saying he was

  627. separated from his, the Traditions, the safety compared

  628. to his mother's womb that Safety and Security from his ancestors.

  629. He lost that. God called him out of that out

  630. of the womb and out of that Safety and Security and called

  631. me through his grace. To reveal his son in me that I

  632. might preach him among the Gentiles.

  633. He says, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood.

  634. So let's pause there. If Paul was trying to promote a

  635. gospel that was man's idea, he would have gone to men to

  636. orchestrate this player, but he didn't, he didn't go immediately

  637. to talk to people, flesh and blood Nor did I go up to

  638. Jerusalem to those who are Apostles before me?

  639. I didn't go. Hey guys, let's go.

  640. Join up for us in Jerusalem. Have this great party?

  641. No, I didn't do that. He said, but I went to Arabia,

  642. way out there in the the peninsula of Arabia would have

  643. been kind of a deserted direction to go away from all

  644. these other things, he went to Arabia and returned again to

  645. Damascus. Then after three years, I went

  646. up to Jerusalem to see Peter Her and remained with him fifteen

  647. days so he still making this point.

  648. If this was about people and people-pleasing I would have

  649. done this. If you're a people pleaser, you

  650. jump to the crowd and you go to the people who when buddy buddy

  651. up with you he's like I didn't do that.

  652. Three years. He went to Jerusalem after that.

  653. Then he went to see Peter, this word.

  654. See his story. Oh, means for my from what I

  655. understand, more like to visit to get to know Peter, he didn't

  656. go up there to say hey Peter, can you teach me the gospel you

  657. were up there just to get to know Peter and to see him and he

  658. would have stayed 15 days if that wasn't the case.

  659. You know, when we travel now that sounds two weeks is a long

  660. time but if you're traveling on foot you better stay somewhere.

  661. At least 15. Is to make your journey worth

  662. it. So that wasn't a long trip.

  663. He just came got to know Peter and he went on.

  664. From here, on through part of chapter 2, he's showing them

  665. that the Apostle Paul had just enough contact with the

  666. apostles, to demonstrate perfect agreement, but also to prove his

  667. purity of his work and his intentions.

  668. He's going to say I met with them.

  669. Things were good. I went on my way showing that

  670. they were, there were agreement. They were United in the gospel.

  671. But not long enough to be like yeah, I was just making this big

  672. plan on our own. Paul was also not an

  673. isolationist. He went alone to Arabia but we

  674. don't know what he did there. He wasn't isolationist me.

  675. Like he was just trying to hunker in his fate to himself.

  676. He just wasn't approaching the gospel with bad intentions and

  677. people-pleasing. Okay, verse 19, but I saw none

  678. of the other Apostles except James the Lord's brother.

  679. Now concerning the things, which I write to you indeed before

  680. God, I do not lie, this is not how corrupt man made plans.

  681. Go, he would have gone to all the big wings if you're going to

  682. hop companies and try to be high up in that company you go talk

  683. to all the CEO. You talk to the CFO is and all

  684. the high people. He signs see any of them except

  685. for James, the Lord's brother. I'm telling the truth. afterward

  686. I went into the regions of Syria and cilicia and I was Unknown by

  687. face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ, they

  688. didn't even see him. if your people pleasing, you want to see

  689. people's face, The last verse of our last couple verses of what

  690. we're going to study, but these people who hadn't seen him by

  691. face or hearing Only He Who formerly persecuted us.

  692. Now, preaches, the faith he wants.

  693. Try do it, destroy? And their only response, and

  694. they glorified God in Me. Praise God for God's saving work

  695. through Paul, his conversion of Paul.

  696. And we can, we can understand how big of a switch.

  697. How big of a game changer that is to take And from the other

  698. side, so to speak and put them into God's plan and his purpose.

  699. We learned New Testament, Jesus Says by their fruits, you shall

  700. know them. And when God is glorified by the

  701. preaching of Faith, Paul was producing good fruit already

  702. even though he wasn't doing it to please all these people.

  703. So there's our lesson, there's our first chapter of the book of

  704. Galatians. Today, we've started the path

  705. through and we're going to get into the meat more this letter,

  706. but I think we can all learn that.

  707. We need to Please God first we need to preach his gospel and

  708. faith and follow his plan, and not be worried so much about

  709. other people. And if you are ready to start

  710. your walk today with Christ, or if you are ready to make

  711. something right on your walk, we can take care of that today.

  712. If you want to start the walk, it takes hearing the word of God

  713. to produce faith in you. We've started a little bit

  714. today, we have to then respond with repentance agreeing.

  715. That I'm going to change my life.

  716. Paul turn a 180 degrees. He was converted.

  717. We have to be able to confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of

  718. God, who saves and be baptized for the remission of our sins.
