  1. It is certainly wonderful to be here with all of you.

  2. I've enjoyed so far worshipping together.

  3. And all of you that are here, we say welcome and I hope and pray

  4. that what we have to consider for a little while this morning

  5. would be edifying, do you and very encouraging to you from the

  6. scriptures? Today, I'm going to start a

  7. series that will take us quite some time.

  8. I'm going to start a series on the great Sermon on the Mount.

  9. It was in fact and indeed the greatest sermon ever preached

  10. You know that phrase? I just said the greatest sermon

  11. ever preached. I was reminded of something.

  12. My mother may remember this my mother and father were baptized

  13. into Jesus Christ in 1973. And I don't know how many years

  14. after that that this event happened.

  15. But my father was asked at the last minute to give a lesson,

  16. and I remember as a little boy, what in the world is my dad

  17. going to teach on? My father got up in the pulpit

  18. and his introduction, and this is what he said, he said today,

  19. you're going to hear the greatest sermon you have ever

  20. heard. and I remember as a little boy, sitting there

  21. thinking man what you're going to say next, And my father, read

  22. The Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5, 6 and 7, I remember it.

  23. Took him about 20 minutes and I got to thinking about that.

  24. Some of you have heard me say this before some of you have

  25. not, I'm going to say it again. The greatest man that ever lived

  26. who was the greatest preacher, the world ever knew preach the

  27. greatest sermon ever preached in 20 minutes.

  28. Sometimes we as preachers and teachers of the Gospel think

  29. that in order to really exhaust a subject or edify on a subject

  30. or really get to the meat of the subject, we got to talk for a

  31. really long time. Jesus, the master preach, the

  32. greatest sermon ever preached. And by the way, I'll just say

  33. this in The Sermon, on the Mount, it is the richest deepest

  34. Medias, things, ever taught, and the Lord, did it in 20 minutes

  35. thought that was rather interesting.

  36. You know, I was given some great advice as a preacher as a young

  37. man and as I got older, I've been given a lot of advice as a

  38. preacher. Seems like a lot of people want

  39. to give people advice and some advice was really great and some

  40. advice was not so great but I'm going to tell you one of the

  41. greatest Things of the best advice.

  42. I was given as a preacher. I wish it was given to me

  43. earlier on, it was given to me later on, but I want to tell

  44. you, I don't always accomplish this, but I always try and this

  45. is what this man said to me. Very good friend of mine.

  46. He said, Frank, if you really want to maximize your

  47. Effectiveness as a speaker, then learn to say more.

  48. With less words. And that's what the master did.

  49. That is what Jesus did. He said more with less words,

  50. let's begin as an introductory text.

  51. Please in Matthew 5, verses 1 and 2.

    Matthew 5:1

  52. And by the way, this sermon here is just an introduction to The

  53. Sermon on the Mount. We're going to get into what he

  54. preached later on in other sermons.

  55. This is just an introduction. Matthew Chapter 5, beginning in

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  56. verse 1, And seeing the multitudes he went up on a

  57. mountain and when he was seated, his disciples came to him, then

  58. he opened his mouth and taught them saying.

  59. The things that Jesus said after that were nothing, short of

  60. masterful, he was indeed the greatest.

  61. Okay. So the Sermon on the Mount is

  62. Matthew, 5, 6 and 7, let's back up the first four chapters of

  63. the Book of Matthew successfully, portrayed, Jesus

  64. Christ as the Messiah, and number, To they demonstrate the

  65. Dual nature of his mission that's found in chapters 1

  66. through 4. What was the Dual nature of the

  67. Lord's mission number one to fulfill the Old Law of Moses.

  68. We're going to get to what that means in just a moment.

  69. But that's number one. He came to fulfill the Old Law

  70. of Moses. Number two, he came to establish

  71. the new law of Jesus Christ. His law that we are under today,

  72. but let's talk about the Old Law of Moses, for just a moment.

  73. And The fulfilling of the Old Law in the Old Law of Moses in

  74. Matthew Chapter 5 and verses 17 and 18.

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  75. This is what Jesus said, he said, do not think that I came

  76. to destroy the law or the prophets.

  77. I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill, he said not one jot

  78. or one Tittle will by no means pass from the law until all be

  79. fulfilled. What Jesus was saying, here in

  80. this passage, he said I didn't come to destroy.

  81. The law or the prophets, I came to fulfill the law or the

  82. prophets one of the Dual Natures of his mission.

  83. Ok now what he's saying is this, whatever this means we'll get to

  84. this in just a moment not even a jot or tittle will pass from the

  85. Old Law until all things are fulfilled.

  86. So what in the world is a jot? And what in the world is a

  87. tittle the word jot, by the way, is a word that actually means to

  88. Describe the smallest letter of the alphabet.

  89. Now, I don't usually do this. I usually just tell you, for

  90. example, something comes from the word in the original and

  91. I'll tell you what it means, but I don't usually pronounce the

  92. Greek words anymore. I used to get to the meaning of

  93. it, but I got to use this name and I got to say the name.

  94. I got to say, with the Greek word is, you know why?

  95. Because you and I know exactly what that is.

  96. Especially the old timers like my father, it's the word iota.

  97. Ever hear the word IO dinner sentence.

  98. My dad used to say we didn't accomplish anything though.

  99. No, you didn't accomplish anything today, Frank.

  100. Not one iota, meaning. Not the least little bit.

  101. What is Jesus saying here? Not the least little bit of the

  102. Old Law will pass away until all things are fulfilled.

  103. That's number one, that's called a jot.

  104. What's a tittle? A tittle comes from the Greek

  105. word literally, meaning little horn.

  106. Okay. And it's the smallest brush of a

  107. pen stroke. What's that mean?

  108. All right. In the English, alphabet, we

  109. need to have a little horn. We need to have a tittle to

  110. Penguins between two very similar letters.

  111. I'm going to give you an example to similar letters in the

  112. English alphabet. You know, what, we need to

  113. distinguish between the two. We need a tittle here.

  114. It is the capital letter C and the capital letter G, they look

  115. the same, but in order to distinguish between the two, we

  116. need this little Tunnel right there.

  117. We need the little horn right there.

  118. We had the tiny little pen stroke.

  119. What's Jesus saying he's living under the Old Law of Moses, he's

  120. preaching this sermon. Even during the Old Law of Moses

  121. and he's saying, not even the smallest letter of the alphabet

  122. or even the smallest. Pen stroke would change from the

  123. Old Law until when until all things are fulfilled.

  124. All right? What are you talking about about

  125. all things being fulfilled? First of all, all things are

  126. fulfilled when his Earthly Ministry or his Earthly mission

  127. is completed. and by the way, that ends in his death, on the

  128. cross in Colossians chapter 2 and verse 14, Having wiped out

    Colossians 2 chapter mention

  129. the handwriting of requirements. Get this.

  130. That was against us. What's that?

  131. That's the old law of Moses. But did you get the first part

  132. in that great having wiped out, the handwriting of requirements

  133. that was against us, which was contrary to us?

  134. All of that was the old law of Moses and he has taken it out of

  135. the way. What did he do?

  136. He nailed it to his cross. Now, guess what?

  137. Now, all things are fulfilled. So in Matthew 5, 6 and 7, Jesus

  138. preaches, his greatest sermon and he gives us a new system of

  139. law in The Sermon, on the Mount. He lays the groundwork for his

  140. subsequent Ministry, and development at the church by

  141. depicting the nature of the kingdom and its subject.

  142. And that's very important because guess what we are in the

  143. Kingdom, more of that in a minute.

  144. And we are the subjects. So we got to really listen to

  145. what he's got to say. Here's stop to consider that

  146. Jewish people back in those days.

  147. Really believed in and wanted a messiah.

  148. They really wanted a messiah. The problem with the Jewish

  149. people that lived in the days of Jesus, is they misunderstood

  150. grossly, misunderstood the nature of the Messianic Kingdom,

  151. they thought that Jesus was coming to relieve them or save

  152. them from the oppressive thumb of Rome.

  153. In other words, Roman occupation in Palestine and they thought

  154. that the Messiah was going to come and remove that by

  155. establishing a political Kingdom, an Earthly Kingdom.

  156. Rain on an Earthly throne and finally Rome would no longer

  157. oppress them. That's what they thought.

  158. And by the way, let's back up, you might remember years ago

  159. when I talk there, sermon on the triumphal entry into Jerusalem,

  160. I'll be very brief about this, but I got to make this point.

  161. He rides in on the back of a Colt of a donkey.

  162. Do you remember what the people said?

  163. They said, Hosanna to the highest.

  164. If you look up the word hosanna in an English dictionary, it

  165. will say something like this. A form of praise and

  166. recognition. So sometimes we hear the word

  167. Hosanna and we think he was just being praised in that passage

  168. not so fast. The word Hosanna.

  169. There comes from the Hebrew word hoshea nod, you know what it

  170. means? Save us.

  171. Save us. They thought that Jesus was

  172. going to come in and save them from Rome, but Jesus came to be

  173. our Messiah to save us from hell.

  174. I think I like what he did best. Who cares about oppression?

  175. He came to save our soul. The Sermon on the Mount reveals

  176. the true type of his kingdom that he came to establish by

  177. focusing on spiritual issues. He gave spiritual principles

  178. that demonstrates that he wants to rain.

  179. Get this please, he wants to rein in the human heart.

  180. That's what Jesus wants. He wants to rein in your heart,

  181. he wants to be the motivating factor in everything you do.

  182. He's not going to rain on an Earthly Throne.

  183. He wants to rein in your heart and change your life.

  184. I got to tell you something, we need to spend time trying to

  185. bring people to Jesus. Jesus, as the Messiah Jesus as

  186. the savior. Because if people would be

  187. converted to Jesus and truly have Jesus raining in their

  188. hearts, don't you see that? Everything else falls into place

  189. automatically? It's about being converted to

  190. Jesus. That's what he wants.

  191. He wants to rein in your heart and not an Earthly throne and by

  192. the way, it was never going to be an Earthly Throne.

  193. He made this point, very clear to Pilot Jesus said this before,

  194. pilot before he was crucified. He said, my kingdom is not of

  195. this world. If my kingdom were of this

  196. world, my servants would fight so that I should not be

  197. delivered to the Jews but now my kingdom is not from here.

  198. Okay. Now, the Jews believe in Jesus

  199. day, there were very fond of the Old Law.

  200. We know that Here was the problem.

  201. The religious leaders misapplied.

  202. It And they corrupted it. With their human Traditions.

  203. Okay. What am I talking about human

  204. Traditions? First of all, let's go to

  205. Matthew 15 and 3 he answered and said to them, why do you also

  206. transgress the Commandment of God because of your tradition?

  207. I got to say is I don't have time to go into Matthew 15.

  208. I'm just gonna say this quickly, the context of Matthew 15 and

  209. the context of what Jesus is saying here is very simple.

  210. He's talking about the tradition, the Tradition of the

  211. elders about hand washing. Okay.

  212. Now, is there anything wrong with hand-washing?

  213. Absolutely not for cleanliness purposes.

  214. Absolutely not. In fact, I don't want people

  215. touching my stuff for my food without washing their hands.

  216. We all know that washing your hands is a good thing.

  217. So what's he talking about Jesus says you transgress the

  218. Commandment of God because of your tradition.

  219. They were taking the tradition of hand-washing.

  220. Not for cleanliness purposes, they were doing it for Ceremony

  221. purposes because they believed it was an act of piety.

  222. It was an act of being holy and that became a human tradition.

  223. Now human Traditions, please stay with me.

  224. Human Traditions are not wrong in themself But when a human

  225. tradition causes us to transgress the Commandment of

  226. God, now we got a problem. That's what they were doing.

  227. The Lord's point to the Pharisees was this, they had a

  228. willingness to violate the law of God because of those human

  229. Traditions. I want to make a few points

  230. about tradition. Okay.

  231. First of all, there is Apostolic tradition this episode

  232. tradition. By the way, passed down by the

  233. apostles written, in the word of God in the New Testament.

  234. Okay, Apostolic tradition is binding and we must bind it and

  235. we can't deviate from it. In other words, it Speak with

  236. the Bible. Speaks beside it with a Bible

  237. silent. We stick to Apostolic tradition

  238. by the word of God. That is a binding tradition.

  239. Okay. There are other human Traditions

  240. though that are acceptable, but can't be binding.

  241. And may I just say this to it is just as wrong to bind with the

  242. Lord is not bound, as it is too loose with the Lord, has not

  243. loosed. Here's my question.

  244. What are human Traditions? One fast example in my house a

  245. And tradition is Thanksgiving and we do the same thing every

  246. every year at Thanksgiving. I'm so thankful for Tina being

  247. such a great hostess. Everybody comes over, we eat

  248. around a time of a certain football game where we cheer for

  249. a certain football team and hope that team doesn't lose that day

  250. tradition. Human tradition.

  251. No problem. But are there human traditions

  252. in the church? Yes.

  253. Give you an example. Are they wrong?

  254. No, let me show you what I mean. if a human tradition is an

  255. expedient, Which expedites the process of what's been

  256. commanded? No problem.

  257. For example, in the scriptures, we are told to sing, we are

  258. commanded to sing. We are commanded to sing with

  259. the melody in our hearts to the Lord, okay?

  260. So what we do to expedite that process is we have what we call

  261. a songbook, what do we need to say?

  262. We need two things, right? We need notes and we need to

  263. know what is the song book. It is a book filled with words.

  264. Treasury notes in tune. I mean words and to we need

  265. those two things words and tune, okay?

  266. A songbook expedite that process traditionally, we have a song

  267. book that includes words and to me, that's a tradition.

  268. In the Philippines. They have her songbook, it has

  269. words but they don't have a tune.

  270. You know why? They don't write the music.

  271. What they have is words and they already know the tune.

  272. So they sing the tune because they know the tune and sing the

  273. words. Same thing that's their

  274. tradition. No problem.

  275. Give another example. We are commanded to teach from

  276. the word of God when we Assemble.

  277. And you may remember some of this remember the old timers

  278. that use bedsheets? The old-time preachers, boy,

  279. they put that bedsheet up there and maybe it would have

  280. scriptures on there. Maybe an outline on there may be

  281. a diagram of the Tabernacle and maybe a preacher would stand

  282. there with a long stick, a pointer and he would point to

  283. various aspects of the Tabernacle he would say, look

  284. over here. This is this, and over there.

  285. That's is that. Anyone with that know it is an

  286. expedient that expedites the Commandment to teach.

  287. It doesn't add anything, it doesn't subtract from anything,

  288. it doesn't corrupt anything. So traditionally preachers would

  289. use a bedsheet, guess what? We no longer have that

  290. tradition. Another tradition came in human

  291. tradition. That expedited the process, it

  292. was called a chalkboard. Remember those?

  293. We don't have one now. We had a whiteboard on the other

  294. side of this, though, by the way, chalkboard, and people

  295. would write on the chalkboard and that would expedite the

  296. process, it would give a visual aid, it didn't add anything,

  297. didn't subtract from anything. You didn't corrupt anything

  298. Human tradition. I remember we got a white board

  299. here. You know what my father-in-law

  300. had amazing penmanship. And he said, one day, I hate the

  301. Whiteboard. I said why Darrell he said?

  302. Because I can write better with chalk.

  303. That was his preference. Either one was perfectly fine,

  304. it didn't matter, they were both expedience, Expediting the

  305. process by tradition. You might find a chalkboard or a

  306. whiteboard in a church building, which leads me to this

  307. tradition. PowerPoint.

  308. Now, you know a person may not like PowerPoint.

  309. But it doesn't add to anything. It doesn't subtract from

  310. anything. It doesn't correct anything.

  311. It's a tradition. Now, that many places have

  312. PowerPoint. The same thing, human,

  313. Traditions. That don't violate the

  314. Commandments of God, okay? Really quickly, what then would

  315. be a human tradition that we could bring into the church.

  316. That would violate the Commandment of God, it would be

  317. anything that would change what's been authorized?

  318. And that's why we in the Church of Christ, don't have

  319. instruments of music, because we've been commanded to sing and

  320. sing with the melody in our hearts to the Lord.

  321. So, adding an instrument, Of Music would change the music, it

  322. would change the Commandment therefore we don't have that

  323. that would be a human tradition. That would violate what the word

  324. of God is said, that's why we don't do it, okay?

  325. Let's go back to those Jewish, folks.

  326. The pervasive thought, among the Jews was that Mount Sinai.

  327. When you talk about revelation, God speaking to man Mount Sinai,

  328. symbolize the summit of God's communication to man.

  329. And by the way, that misunderstanding also plagued

  330. the days of the early church as the judaizers sought to

  331. discredit the teaching of the Apostles.

  332. Okay. There's Sermon on the Mount

  333. stands in contrast to Mount Sinai because God never intended

  334. for the Old Law. To remain forever, one of the

  335. purposes of the Old Law was to prepare Israel to bring the

  336. Savior For All Mankind. Galatians chapter 3, beginning

    Galatians 3 chapter mention

  337. in verse 23, before Faith came, we were kept under guard by the

  338. law kept for the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

  339. Therefore, the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ that we

  340. might be justified by faith. It was never God's intention

  341. that the Old Law of Moses or the oh, Old Testament precepts would

  342. stand forever as a ruling body or ruling piece of Authority for

  343. mankind. Notice this word right here, the

  344. word tutor, you may know this. It's also found in the King

  345. James version as Schoolmaster, what was the Schoolmaster and

  346. what was a tutor history tells us that a Schoolmaster or tutor

  347. never actually did the teaching? The Schoolmaster literally

  348. picked up the student and brought the student.

  349. To the master teacher, the master teacher is Jesus Christ,

  350. that's what the Old Law did. It took the student or the pupil

  351. it took man to Jesus Christ. The master teacher.

  352. Now. Jesus came, as we said to

  353. fulfill the Old Law of Moses. Matthew, 5:17 and 18.

  354. And number two, he came to be the perfect, savior, John 1 and

  355. 29. John the Baptist said, Behold

  356. the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

  357. He came to be the savior of the world, okay?

  358. In the New Testament, folks, in the new text of Testament.

  359. It is God's final Revelation to man.

  360. God has spoken for the last time and it's revealed in the New

  361. Testament, the essence of God's final Revelation is found in

  362. contained. In The Sermon on the Mount.

  363. And by the way there are reasons why it's the greatest sermon

  364. ever preached and you might say well you already said it's the

  365. greatest man that ever lived the greatest preacher the world ever

  366. knew obviously he is the Son of God.

  367. He was perfect in any way surely that's the reason it's the

  368. greatest sermon tow but wait there's more.

  369. There are reasons why it's the greatest sermon ever preached.

  370. The Sermon on the Mount was things that were preached by

  371. Jesus Christ himself that were fresh and new.

  372. They were not just a reinterpretation of Old

  373. Testament precepts. It is about new revelation,

  374. please get that new revelation and it's used to demonstrate

  375. God's will for Christians. Matthew said in Matthew chapter

    Matthew 4 chapter mention

  376. 4, and verse 23, that Jesus went about all Galilee preaching, the

  377. kingdom, preaching, the gospel of the Kingdom, what immediately

  378. follows that is The Sermon on the Mount.

  379. I like, what one scholar said, he said as a result of that, The

  380. Sermon on the Mount is Kingdom law.

  381. Its authoritative for the New Testament church today.

  382. And why is that important here? It is, folks, here it is.

  383. Because we are the church. And the church is the kingdom.

  384. So, the law comes from Jesus and what he preached was Kingdom

  385. law. You know, at the end of The

  386. Sermon on the Mount, the people were astonished at the teaching

  387. of Jesus. They were astonished at his

  388. Doctrine and it has at his authority such astonishment

  389. proves that what they heard was something that they had heard

  390. for the first time not like anything else taught before one

  391. scholar said, If The Sermon on the Mount is not law for

  392. Christians today, then the church is only left with the

  393. book of Acts. The Epistles or the letters and

  394. the Book of Revelation. But remember this, most of what

  395. we find in the first four books of the New Testament, that's

  396. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John occur before Jesus dies.

  397. So, as one commentator said, If The Sermon on the Mount is not

  398. does not apply to Christians today, then neither do the rest

  399. of those books. So in The Sermon on the Mount,

  400. Jesus use the context of the Old Law and contrasted it with the

  401. new law. Let me show you what I mean.

  402. Jesus Takes four basic positions, toward the Mosaic

  403. law. Number one.

  404. Jesus, sometimes accepts the teaching of the Old Testament.

  405. And then he brings it over just as it is in Matthew, Chapter 5

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  406. and verse has 43 and 44, you have heard that it was said, You

  407. shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say to

  408. you, love your enemies. Bless those who curse, you do

  409. good to those that hate you and pray for those who spitefully

  410. use, you and persecute you. So, In this passage Jesus,

  411. accepts that a man must love his neighbor and he binds it for all

  412. time. So, like I said, just a moment

  413. ago, sometimes, Jesus, accepts the teaching of the Old

  414. Testament, and he brings it over just as it is as found in

  415. Matthew, 5, 43 and 44, okay? But number two, now, Sometimes

  416. Jesus adds to the Old Testament teaching in Matthew chapter 5,

    Matthew 5:21

  417. verses 21 and 22. You have heard that it was said

  418. to those of old, you shall not murder.

  419. And whoever murders will be in danger of the Judgment.

  420. But I say to you, that whoever is angry with his brother

  421. without a, cause shall be in danger of the judgment and

  422. whoever says to his brother raka shall be in danger of the

  423. council, but, whoever says, you fool shall be in danger of Hell,

  424. Fire. Okay, In this passage.

  425. Jesus, accepts the prohibition of murder, but he also adds the

  426. prohibition of anger. I have to say something about

  427. anger and what this actual word here means because the Bible

  428. does say words like this, be angry.

  429. And sin not and incidentally the direct rendering of that is

  430. really this do not be angry that it causes you to sin.

  431. Is being angry in itself in a general sense, a sin?

  432. No, in fact, obviously, Jesus was angry, when Jesus came in

  433. and overturned. The tables of the moneychangers.

  434. He was obviously angry and yet, the Lord did not send.

  435. The Bible says, there was. Neither guile found in his

  436. mouth. He was perfect in every way.

  437. Jesus did not sin, so anger in itself is not sin.

  438. The question is, what is the word angry mean in this passage?

  439. Because what Jesus is saying is, yes, the prohibition of murder,

  440. that's true old law. But now I'm going to add the

  441. prohibition of anger. What's the anger he's talking

  442. about? Here it is.

  443. The word anger here means an emotional distaste for another.

  444. You fill in the blanks. Have you ever been mad?

  445. Yeah. Yeah.

  446. We've all been mad. Being angry is one thing being

  447. angry to the point that it causes us to have an emotional

  448. distaste for another. That's the prohibition.

  449. That Jesus added. What else did Jesus say?

  450. He said the word you can't say the word Rocca.

  451. What is that? That's an Aramaic term which

  452. scorns a man's mind. Calling him stupid.

  453. I know we don't like that word stupid.

  454. I know that's a word that we don't like I get it.

  455. But I'm going to tell you what the definition simply means.

  456. Lacking intelligence. And I want to say this to Jesus

  457. was not making a Prohibition for saying these words in a casual

  458. sense or even in a flippant sense, he's talking about the

  459. heart and all begins with an emotional distaste for another.

  460. Please get that because there are things that are stupid.

  461. In fact, the Bible doesn't even use that word.

  462. One translation says avoid foolish and unlearned questions.

  463. Another translation says avoid foolish.

  464. And stupid questions. It means that which, lacks

  465. intelligence, they gender Strife, okay?

  466. So that's one thing, but it's an entirely different thing to

  467. score in a man's man's mind by calling him that when you have

  468. an emotional distaste for him. And what else?

  469. The word fool? The word fool scorns, a man's

  470. heart and character. And I got to tell you something,

  471. there are things in life that are foolish, there really is.

  472. Oh, there are things that are foolish.

  473. That the Bible even says this too.

  474. By the way, in the Old Testament, says, only a fool

  475. says there is no God. So there is such a thing as a

  476. fool. Okay, there is such a thing and

  477. there are things that are foolish.

  478. Yes. And in the common vernacular,

  479. today people use that word like you're saying, hey buddy,

  480. they're using that word now, for some reason, Times have changed,

  481. you know, nowadays, but back in my day, they said, dude, hey

  482. dude. Now it's yo and bro, and fool

  483. and these are words used. That's not what Jesus is talking

  484. about. He's talking about using these

  485. words as an emotional, distaste for another scorning, a man's

  486. heart and character. That's what he's talking about.

  487. It's about the heart, it's about the intention of what you're

  488. saying it and how you're saying it, that's the point.

  489. That's the point. So what was this point about

  490. this first? Here it is, nobody has the right

  491. to emotions that lead to contemptuous speech, that demean

  492. others Or harmful Deeds are actions against his fellow, man.

  493. That's what he was talking about, okay?

  494. Number three, the third basic position toward the Mosaic law.

  495. Jesus sometimes subtracts from, or qualifies the Old Law, let's

  496. notice Matthew, 5, 31, and 32. Furthermore, it has been said,

  497. whoever divorces his wife. Let him give her a certificate

  498. of divorce, stop right there. By the way, in the beginning it

  499. was not. So in the beginning God always

  500. wanted. Yes one man.

  501. Yes to be married to one woman that was always God's plan and

  502. that they would be married for Life till death.

  503. Do they part? But under the Old Law of Moses

  504. because of the hardness of their hearts, the Bible says it was

  505. permitted to get a divorce. Only, if Moses said, if you got

  506. your paperwork in, you gave her a certificate of divorce meant

  507. that was under the Old Law. And you know what?

  508. Historically speaking, people were getting a divorce for

  509. anything and everything. What did Jesus say?

  510. He's going to add to it, subtract from it and qualify it.

  511. He says this. It has been said, whoever

  512. divorces his wife. Let him give her a certificate

  513. of course. But I say to you, that whoever

  514. divorces his wife for any reason except for sexual immorality

  515. causes her to commit adultery. And whoever marries a woman who

  516. is divorced, commits adultery. So in these passages, Jesus

  517. limits divorce to the cause of fornication and subtracts from

  518. it. The permissive Mosaic system,

  519. number four, the fourth position, Jesus Took toward the

  520. Mosaic law. Sometimes he rejected the Old

  521. Law in Thai early. Matthew 5:38 through, 42.

    Matthew 5:38

  522. You have heard that it was said an eye for an eye, and a tooth

  523. for a tooth. But I tell you do not resist an

  524. evil person. Whoever slaps, you on the right

  525. cheek, turn the other to him the other.

  526. Also, if anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let

  527. him have your cloak. Also and whoever compels you to

  528. go one mile, go with him two. Give to him, who asks you and

  529. from him who wants to borrow from you do, not turn away,

  530. amazing things. The Lord said, Jesus is making a

  531. contrast here. He's rejecting the concept of an

  532. eye for an eye. He is he is contrasting that

  533. with don't resist an evil person.

  534. It is other passages in The Sermon on the Mount he is

  535. contrasting. Hating one's enemy contradicting

  536. that with loving your enemy. So what Jesus taught in The

  537. Sermon on the Mount was new, it was fresh, it had never been

  538. taught before The Sermon on the Mount accomplishes three

  539. masterful purposes and truly making it the greatest sermon

  540. ever preached. Here they are.

  541. This is the reason is the greatest sermon ever preached.

  542. It depicts Jesus Kingdom as spiritual rather than physical.

  543. Number two, it contrasts the Mosaic law with a new law of

  544. Jesus Christ. Number three, it contrast.

  545. The religious hypocrisy of the Pharisees with the qualities of

  546. God's children. The sermon stands as a

  547. masterpiece one. Man said a Wellspring for

  548. countless sermons. No.

  549. Other selection of scripture more aptly.

  550. Depicts the nature of God Than The Sermon on the Mount.

  551. I've often wondered, I don't know about you.

  552. I've often wondered what it must have been like To be there that

  553. day. And then all of a sudden Jesus

  554. just starts preaching. And he goes from one subject to

  555. the next subject to the next subject to the next subject.

  556. And he spot-on, perfect. I don't know what that's like.

  557. No notes, no preparation. Just the son of God.

  558. The greatest one ever. And he just preached.

  559. I've often wondered what it would have been like to sit

  560. there and listen to the words that were coming out of his

  561. mouth. Preaching, the greatest sermon.

  562. Ever preached, you know, this sermon has been appropriately

  563. called the Magna Carta or the document of the Kingdom.

  564. It has been called the manifesto or the Declaration of policy of

  565. the king. It's also been called the

  566. compendium or the concise detailed information of Christ's

  567. Doctrine. And because it seems to come

  568. right after the choosing of the 12.

  569. It is also called his ordination address to them.

  570. But simply put simply put its the greatest sermon ever

  571. preached. To us today.

  572. Because it's the truth. It's just the truth. you know,

  573. sometimes it's really hard, do an introduction and keep it So

  574. it's not boring. I hope I've done that it's hard.

  575. But I felt like we needed to cover as an introduction in a

  576. sermon before we get into the context of what he actually

  577. preached to have a better understanding of what he means,

  578. as he goes through, it's going to take us some time to get

  579. through Matthew, 5, 6 and 7. But this is our sermon today.

  580. The greatest sermon ever preached, the introduction to

  581. The Sermon on the Mount and now we do what we always do.

  582. We never, we never close a service.

  583. After we teach them the word of God without extending an

  584. invitation to somebody that might be subject to the We'll

  585. call an invitation to someone. That's not a Christian that

  586. would like to become one. The steps are very, very simple.

  587. If you want to become a child of God, if you want to be saved,

  588. it's very simple. The Bible says, the first thing

  589. you have to do is hear the word of God, Romans, 10:17.

  590. So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God

  591. upon hearing the word of God. We have a choice to make in

  592. Hebrews 11 and 6. The Bible says, we must believe

  593. with all our heart without faith.

  594. It's impossible to please him for.

  595. He who comes to God, must believe that he is, and that he

  596. is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.

  597. Upon hearing the word of God and believing we have something else

  598. we must do to. Also we got to repent of our

  599. sins, acts 17 and 30 truly these times of ignorance, God,

  600. overlooked. But now commands all men

  601. everywhere to repent, all that means is I got to change my

  602. life, hear the word of God, believe in Jesus with all your

  603. heart. Repent, and change your life.

  604. I'm gonna change my life today. Then what are you going to do?

  605. You're going to say the greatest thing you will ever say.

  606. You will confess the Lord Jesus Christ, as the Son of God acts

    Acts 8:37

  607. 8:37. Then Peter said Philip said, if

  608. you believe with all your heart you made and he answered and

  609. said I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God upon taking

  610. these four steps that we've noticed so far, you're a fit

  611. candidate to go down to the Waters of baptism.

  612. That is the point of salvation. We must be baptized for the

  613. remission of sins, Mark 16:16. He who believes and is baptized,

    Mark 16:16

  614. will be saved. But he, who does not believe

  615. will be condemned. If you've never taken these

  616. steps of obedience, You can do that today.

  617. We would love to assist you in that.

  618. Maybe you have. Maybe there are things in your

  619. life that are not what they should be.

  620. Maybe you've straight away. Be a great time to come back.

  621. Just repent of those things. Confess, those things would pray

  622. with you and for you, and God will forgive and restore.
