  1. It is wonderful to be here with all of you.

  2. Today, we have a wonderful crowd for which we are thankful, and

  3. it's good to be here. It's good to worship together.

  4. As always is the case. I am honored to be your speaker

  5. and I am very excited about this series.

  6. Last time we had an introduction to the series that I'm going to

  7. preach with you and for you and that is on the greatest sermon

  8. ever preached, the great Sermon on the Mount.

  9. Remember last time we talked about why is it the greatest

  10. sermon ever preached? Well obviously it was preached

  11. by the son of God. And Jesus was the greatest man

  12. that ever lived. He was the greatest preacher,

  13. the world ever knew. So obviously and these are the

  14. obvious things. It's going to be the greatest

  15. sermon ever preached, but it's not the only sermon that the

  16. Lord preached. He preached, many sermons, Jesus

  17. had a life of preaching he would come into areas and he would

  18. Overlook the scene in the setting and the people and know

  19. exactly what to preach and what to say he indeed and in fact was

  20. the master. So why is The Sermon on the

  21. Mount? The ETA sermon ever preached.

  22. We mentioned this last time for three reasons, The Sermon on the

  23. Mount. Accomplish three masterful

  24. purposes, making, it truly the greatest sermon ever preached

  25. for three reasons, number one in The Sermon on the Mount.

  26. It depicted Jesus Kingdom as spiritual rather than physical.

  27. And by the way, this literally flew in the face of Jewish

  28. expectation, that's number one. Number two, reason it contrasted

  29. the Mosaic law of the Mosaic law, which was imperfect with

  30. the new law of Jesus. East, which was and is perfect.

  31. And number three, it contrasted the religious hypocrisy of the

  32. Pharisees with the qualities of God's children.

  33. So for these reasons, we can say, it is the greatest sermon

  34. ever preached. All of that was covered in our

  35. introduction. But now we continue our series

  36. with the sermon itself and I have to tell you as you saw on

  37. the screen, the title, The Beatitudes.

  38. You may be thinking of wait a minute you preached on these

  39. about a few years ago. And that's just, that's true.

  40. And I have to tell you what I was gonna do.

  41. I actually was going to skip the first 12 verses of the Book of

  42. Matthew. The Gospel of Matthew and get

  43. into in verse 13 because I had dealt with the Beatitudes

  44. before. And then I got to thinking how

  45. in the world could I possibly do that?

  46. How can I eliminate the first 12 verses of the greatest sermon

  47. ever preached? Where Jesus lays, the foundation

  48. for everything he's going to say in Matthew 5, 6, and 7.

  49. So I gotta preach on the Beatitudes again, but here's my

  50. promise to you. These are not the same sermons.

  51. I'm not going to reteach the sermon that I preached before.

  52. These are brand-new, and I'm going to dig deeper and I'm

  53. going to try to have things that might be.

  54. In addition to what I said before, okay?

  55. And by the way, this sermon is covering two verses.

  56. So when we talk about the series of The Sermon, on the Mount

  57. Matthew 5, 6 & 7, it may take us a year to get through it, but

  58. here we go. We're going to notice two of

  59. them to versus today, but let's back up to Matthew chapter.

  60. ER, 5 beginning in verse 1 and seeing the multitudes, he went

  61. up on a mountain. And when he was seated, his

  62. disciples came to him and then he opened his mouth and he

  63. taught them saying. First of all, this phrase he

  64. went up on a mountain. Where was the mountain?

  65. We don't know the scripture. Doesn't tell us.

  66. I'll tell you what. Tradition says, tradition says,

  67. it was a mountain that was in between the Mount Tabor and the

  68. Sea of Galilee which would be known as the Mount of

  69. Beatitudes. Is that true?

  70. I don't know. We don't know that for sure.

  71. That is tradition. Other Scholars say that it

  72. wasn't a literal Mountain like brought us.

  73. For example broader says it was a mountain region.

  74. It and it could have been, here's the point.

  75. It doesn't matter. All we know is Jesus went to a

  76. mountain and he saw the multitudes and when he was

  77. seated, that's very important seated.

  78. You know, it's very customary today when a speaker is going to

  79. teach, he stands. I'm doing that right now.

  80. That is our custom. And we stand, because we're so

  81. we could be seen by the crowd and heard by the crowd, the

  82. custom of the day was different than they didn't stand the

  83. teacher. Actually, which sees himself.

  84. So picture, this, if you will, whether it is at the sea at the

  85. Mount of Beatitudes, that is called, or a mountain region

  86. itself, whatever it was, Jesus found an area.

  87. That was What happened that he could sit down creating a

  88. natural pulpit and the multitudes came to him and when

  89. he saw his disciples, he began to speak and that's what he did.

  90. What's amazing to me is the first thing that he has to say.

  91. In verse 3, he said blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is

  92. the kingdom of heaven. Now I'm going to tell you

  93. something of all the things to say, He sits down, he sees the

  94. multitudes. And he begins to speak.

  95. Can you imagine what they thought and what they were

  96. thinking when they heard the words that first came out of his

  97. mouth? They were sitting there ready to

  98. hang on his every word. What is this master going to

  99. preach? And he says, first, Blessed are

  100. the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

  101. All right, first of all, let's back up.

  102. Now these are things that are going to overlap because

  103. definitions are definitions and facts are facts and information

  104. is information. So some of the things that I've

  105. said in the past will overlap like this word right here and

  106. that is the word blessed. The word blessed is comes from a

  107. Latin term. This Latin term right here and

  108. from that Latin term it means blessed.

  109. That's where we get the term. Or the phrase, the Beatitudes or

  110. the title of the Beatitudes, that's because it comes from

  111. this Latin phrase and the sound of this Latin phrase.

  112. That means blessed. So we call these things, the

  113. Beatitudes in the Greek. You remember, it means.

  114. Happy fortunate or Blissful. What an amazing thing.

  115. Our lord said he's saying happy fortunate and blessed 'full.

  116. Are those that are poor in spirit?

  117. Wow, what an amazing thing to say.

  118. He is using it to symbolize happiness.

  119. That is based on pure character and Holiness, listen to this

  120. quote, here very important, Scriptural blessedness is not

  121. based on outward circumstances or superficial feeling

  122. scriptural. Blessedness is based upon the

  123. reality that one is dedicated to God and is approved by him.

  124. How do you know if you're approved by God, you're approved

  125. by God when your life is molded by the principles that are found

  126. in his word? If you want true blessedness in

  127. your life, it's not going to be on a superficial feeling.

  128. It's not going to be how you feel inside.

  129. It's not based on that. And you know what else?

  130. It's not going to be based on the circumstances in your life.

  131. That's the beauty of being a Christian.

  132. You can have this even if the circumstances in your life are

  133. terrible, How do I have this bet?

  134. This blessedness the Lord's talking about.

  135. Got to do two things. I got to be dedicated to God,

  136. and I have to be approved by him and I'm approved by him when I'm

  137. following his word. Okay.

  138. But Jesus says this, he says blessed are the poor in spirit.

  139. Let's back up, historically. Okay, let's go back in our mind

  140. to the days of Jesus, when Jesus would have preached this.

  141. What did Jesus know? That's why he was so brilliant

  142. in the master I think that's why he's beginning with poor in

  143. spirit, you know what, Jesus knew that maybe you and I would

  144. not know. Jesus knew something very, very

  145. important. Jesus knew that Judaism or the

  146. religion of Judaism had become all about materialism.

  147. In fact, outward form had completely replaced in word

  148. substance. What have we said in the past?

  149. We have said in the past that they're supposed to go together,

  150. right? It begins in the inside,

  151. supposed to manifest itself on the outside K, that's living the

  152. Christian Life, That's being true.

  153. And authentic on the inside, it's supposed to manifest itself

  154. on the outside, what happened to under Judaism in the Lord's day,

  155. especially among the religious leaders.

  156. It became all about outward form and eliminated inner substance

  157. and he knew that and he knew it was all about materialism. so,

  158. something else about this to the current thinking of the day was

  159. when the Messiah would come And they did believe in a messiah.

  160. They did believe in a Messianic Kingdom.

  161. We've talked about in the past, they just misunderstood the kind

  162. of Kingdom. The Lord was going to establish.

  163. It wouldn't be political and it wouldn't be physical.

  164. It wouldn't be Earthly, they just misunderstood that.

  165. But you know what, they really thought they really thought that

  166. when the Messianic Kingdom came that the citizens of the

  167. Messianic Kingdom, we're going to be blessed monetarily with

  168. riches that were overflowing. Does that sound familiar today?

  169. Day. How about the prosperity

  170. preachers on TV today that say all you got to do is follow

  171. Jesus. And if you do that, you're going

  172. to have riches Untold. You're going to be blessed with

  173. a windfall. I heard one man, say one time,

  174. if you follow Jesus, then tomorrow, your bank account is

  175. going to be overflowing. Listen, this is nothing new.

  176. It goes all the way back to the religion of Judaism.

  177. When it was all about materialism when they thought

  178. the Messianic Kingdom would come and bring great wealth and

  179. riches to its citizens. What did you say?

  180. Uh-huh. No poor.

  181. In spirit it's going to clarify the kind of poor just a moment,

  182. so hang on. in this beatitude, It flies in the face of their

  183. expectation, you know what they also believed.

  184. They also believe that God himself would give to the higher

  185. class, the rich, and the religious Elite, the highest

  186. privileges in the kingdom and they were all about the highest

  187. privileges member. We talked about that in the

  188. past, they wanted the chief seats in the synagogue.

  189. They wanted the best couches or the chief couches to recline on

  190. the best seats at the at the Banquets and all of that.

  191. And Jesus is saying the opposite in contrast to all of that, all

  192. right. So what is it?

  193. What is he talking about here? Well, first of all, what is the

  194. word? Poor me.

  195. And I know these are not very nice words.

  196. The word poor that's used in. This passage means destitute.

  197. It means crouching cowering or cringing Those things don't

  198. sound, very fun. What he's saying is this is

  199. total? Utter poverty.

  200. Okay, but he's not talking about physical poverty.

  201. So don't think you have to go get rid of everything you have.

  202. Okay, he's talking about spiritual poverty.

  203. When Jesus says, blessed are the poor in spirit, he says blessed.

  204. Are those that understand? I am absolutely nothing without

  205. God. I need God.

  206. I'm destitute of Merit. I'm dependent upon him.

  207. I've said this before, I believe this with all my heart.

  208. Do you know what God wants you to be vulnerable?

  209. Especially when you pray to him. I think God wants to hear words

  210. like this when we pray. I think God wants to hear words,

  211. like, I am nothing without you. I need you.

  212. I need your strength. Do, you know why?

  213. Because everything depends upon God.

  214. So, God gets the glory and God gets to praise.

  215. It's not about our strength. Philippians 4:13.

    Philippians 4:13

  216. I can do all things through Christ.

  217. Who strengthens me? If you have the strength to

  218. endure something in your spiritual life, don't think it's

  219. from you. Don't think it's because of you.

  220. Understand that God gives you that strength.

  221. To persevere and endure. God gives you the strength.

  222. I can do all things through Christ who through strengthens

  223. me. And by the way, every time the

  224. disciples tried to do it on their own.

  225. They failed Every Time. Peter told Jesus, I will never

  226. deny you. I will never leave your side, I

  227. don't even care. If they kill me with you, I'll

  228. never do it. And Jesus says, before the cock

  229. crows, you will deny me three times what did he do?

  230. He denied the Lord three times trying to do it on his own.

  231. What about the other disciples, all forsook him and all fled?

  232. Trying to rely on their own strength when they couldn't

  233. perform a miracle because they lost faith, they try to do it on

  234. their own strength, they couldn't do it.

  235. And Jesus frustrated Lee says, how long am I going to tell you

  236. the same stuff over and over and over and over and over again?

  237. Oh you of little faith. On our own.

  238. We're nothing. Jesus says, blessed are the poor

  239. in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

  240. Let's notice Isaiah 66 and to for all those things, my hand is

  241. made and all those things exist says the Lord.

  242. But on this one, will I look on him who is poor and of a

  243. contrite spirit and who trembles at my word?

  244. That's what God wants. You know, Jesus needed them to

  245. understand this very principle because many of the conflicts

  246. that Jesus had to encounter in this day, arose over their pride

  247. of self-sufficiency. But Jesus says, blessed are the

  248. poor in spirit. And then he says, this for

  249. theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. The first step to becoming a

  250. citizen of Christ's Kingdom. Is to shed yourself of all

  251. self-righteousness and acknowledge you are spiritually

  252. bankrupt without God. What's wrong with that?

  253. I don't know why that's a bad thing to people.

  254. Why is it bad to say, God, I'm nothing I need you.

  255. You have to shed yourself as one Bible passage and we're going to

  256. get to that in just a moment speaks of the filthy rags of

  257. self-righteousness. You got to rid yourself of that.

  258. That's the first thing that a person has to do.

  259. When you come to, Jesus got to rid yourself of that.

  260. We talked about being self-righteous for just a

  261. moment. Don't have a lot of time but I

  262. got to take some time. What do you think about when you

  263. think about being self-righteous?

  264. I think about one example, I'm not going to go into the store,

  265. you know the story, The Pharisee and the tax collector.

  266. Okay? Why didn't Jesus give that

  267. story? Jesus says, because of those who

  268. trusted in themselves, that they were righteous and despised

  269. others, okay? One translation says like this,

  270. they trusted in their own righteousness and they look down

  271. on. On others.

  272. Okay. Maybe you think about this?

  273. I kind of do sometimes when I think about somebody being

  274. self-righteous. I think it's somebody being

  275. arrogant and conceited. I think about somebody that

  276. thinks they're better than somebody else.

  277. Maybe somebody that is overly critical of others because they

  278. do believe they're better than they are.

  279. I think about people like that. And by the way, nobody likes

  280. that guy. That is nobody's friend.

  281. Nobody likes that guy. So you may be saying, no, wait a

  282. minute, I'm not guilty, any of that.

  283. So I'm not self-righteous. My point is, you don't have to

  284. be guilty of any of that to be guilty of being self-righteous.

  285. All you have to do is believe you are righteous, all by

  286. yourself, give you an example. I know a lot of great people in

  287. this world. Wonderful people in this world.

  288. They'll tell you, this does say this, I don't believe in

  289. organized, religion, I don't go to church.

  290. I don't follow the Bible, but I'm a really good person.

  291. So I think it's going to be okay.

  292. I think God will save me. I believe in God, and I think

  293. God has saved me because I'm a good person.

  294. Oh, righteous all by yourself. Jesus says, you got to shed that

  295. and realize you are destitute without Jesus.

  296. You are destitute without God. Let me give you another Bible

  297. passed into please. Isaiah 64:6, but we are all

    Isaiah 64:6

  298. like, an unclean thing. That's all of us.

  299. All of us are and all our righteousnesses are like filthy

  300. rags. We all fade as a leaf and our

  301. iniquities like the wind have taken us away.

  302. Away. So, please get this salvation is

  303. not been offered to us. Because of our own righteousness

  304. or because I'm a good guy, I'm a good person.

  305. So salvation is offered. It's not about that salvation

  306. has been offered, not received yet, but Salvation has been

  307. offered because we were void of Merit.

  308. Because we were destitute spiritually.

  309. And because we needed God and we couldn't do it on our own

  310. everything. Everything all glory belongs to

  311. God, Romans 5:8, but God demonstrates, his own love

    Romans 5:8

  312. toward us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for

  313. us. So, not on our own

  314. righteousness. Was salvation offered.

  315. It was offered when we were yet, sinners.

  316. But let's go further. Let's go to Titus Chapter 3

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  317. notice. This not by works of

  318. righteousness, which we have done.

  319. So here's another passage proven the point that I just said, it's

  320. not on our own righteousness. Or our own Merit that God saved

  321. us, but we are saved according to his Mercy.

  322. Remember, Grace, is giving us what?

  323. We don't deserve that salvation. Mercy is not giving us what we

  324. do deserve and that's to be lost.

  325. By God's mercy. He saved us but there's more you

  326. have to do something. There's two things there are two

  327. things here. Number one through the washing

  328. of regeneration. What does that mean?

  329. There's two things here by the way.

  330. So God gives to things that are going to make man, righteous in

  331. his own eyes in God's eyes, not our own eyes and God's eyes, not

  332. our own righteousness, but we're going to do something by gods.

  333. Mercy. He has extended a plan and

  334. there's two things that save us in this passage number one.

  335. It's the washing of regeneration number two, and we'll get to

  336. that in a moment. It's the renewing of the Holy

  337. Spirit. Okay, let's talk about the

  338. washing of regeneration first. What is the washing of

  339. regeneration? The washing of regeneration, is

  340. baptism, Hebrews. Chapter 10 and verse 22.

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  341. Let us draw near with a True Heart in full Assurance of

  342. Faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil

  343. conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

  344. Okay? Baptism is also called a washing

  345. in Acts chapter 22 and verse 16. Very, very, very briefly here.

    Acts 22 chapter mention

  346. This was the Apostle Paul's account of his own conversion,

  347. okay. In Acts chapter 9, is the

    Acts 9 chapter mention

  348. chronological account where Luke writing the book of Acts.

  349. It's the chronological account of when he was converted.

  350. And by then back, then he was called Saul of Tarsus in Acts

    Acts 22 chapter mention

  351. chapter 22. He is called Paul my whole life.

  352. I've heard people say Paul's salt I've heard he was like

  353. Saul's name was changed to Paul. No, it wasn't.

  354. In Acts chapter 13 and verse 9. It says, from that point

    Acts 13 chapter mention

  355. forward, he was referred to or he was called Paul.

  356. His name wasn't changed. His name is always Paul.

  357. Saw was his Hebrew name. Paul was his Latin name.

  358. So in Acts, chapter 13 and verse 9 from that point forward, he is

    Acts 13 chapter mention

  359. now referred to as a name, he's always had his Latin name and

  360. that's Paul. So in Acts chapter 22, this is

    Acts 22 chapter mention

  361. Paul. Now speaking of this of this

  362. event, let me fast-forward through the event fast here.

  363. Jesus appears before him, he blinds him.

  364. He says, why are you persecuting me?

  365. He says, who are you Lord? He said, I am Jesus, whom you

  366. are persecuting. He said, what do you want me to

  367. do? He said, you go into Damascus,

  368. you go down to the city, which is the street, which is called

  369. straight and it's going to be told you what you must do.

  370. Ananias comes on the scene right, he's praying for three

  371. days. Couldn't pray sins away.

  372. He's praying for three days and Acts 22:16 it says and now why

    Acts 22:16

  373. tarriest thou arise And be baptized and wash away.

  374. Your sins washing of regeneration and wash away, your

  375. sins. Calling on the name of the Lord.

  376. Baptism is the washing. How does God Save Us by his

  377. Mercy? How is that?

  378. How do we take part in that washing of regeneration that's

  379. baptism for the remission of sins?

  380. Another passage here. Briefly Ephesians 5:26.

    Ephesians 5:26

  381. It talks about sanctifying her through the washing and the

  382. word, or by the word, Folks, listen, the word is what leads

  383. us to how to know how to be baptized?

  384. After were baptized the word is what guides us through our life.

  385. You can't take the word away. You can't remove the word of God

  386. from our instruction before or after baptism.

  387. Okay. There's another thing though.

  388. What about this? The renewing of the Holy Spirit.

  389. What does that mean? The renewing of the Holy Spirit

  390. refers to the spiritual nourishment, that the child of

  391. God needs to sustain their life as they serve him.

  392. That is the renewing of the Holy Spirit.

  393. It is a strengthening Okay. So baptism is a part of God's

  394. way of making man righteous in God's eyes, but so is renewing

  395. of the Holy Spirit, but how did all of that begin?

  396. What was the spiritual role from?

  397. The beginning? Here it is, the Spirit came to

  398. the apostles. That's the Holy Spirit.

  399. Came miraculously through them, the apostles.

  400. Jesus Christ was preached to the world.

  401. Number three that produced faith, it changed the heart and

  402. led man to be baptized for the remission of sins.

  403. Was the spirit's role originally in bringing the word of God, the

  404. teachings of Jesus to mankind to be saved.

  405. Okay, but there's more. The holy spirit continues to

  406. strengthen through the word. That transforms and renews our

  407. mind in Romans chapter 12 and verse 2 and do not be conformed

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  408. to this world but be transformed.

  409. Here's that word again, same word with renewing of the Holy

  410. Spirit by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is

  411. that good and acceptable and perfect will of God, where do we

  412. get spiritual nourishment? We get spiritual nourishment

  413. from the word of God. In fact, from the milk of the

  414. word in First Peter, chapter 2 and verse 2 as On babes desire.

    1 Peter 2 chapter mention

  415. The pure milk of the word that you may grow, thereby.

  416. So, the first beatitude is, this blessed are the poor in spirit.

  417. For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

  418. As first thing you got to do. You got to say, look, I'm

  419. nothing without you. Lord, I'm nothing without God.

  420. I need. Jesus can't do it on my own.

  421. We just ask you really quickly. What was wrong with that?

  422. I'm Nothing Without You. Lord, I need you.

  423. Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of

  424. Heaven. That's beatitude number one.

  425. Now comes beatitude number two. He says this blessed are those

  426. who mourn for, they will be comforted.

  427. First of all, let's talk about morning and I'm going to talk

  428. about this to man is a creature. That's obsessed with physical

  429. comfort. Enjoyment and happiness.

  430. And you know, what we do? We do everything we can to

  431. eliminate pain and suffering and that is normal.

  432. We want any part of pain and suffering.

  433. I was talking to a good friend of mine.

  434. Yesterday he said, you know, I'm really been blessed in my life

  435. and I was kind of wondering. You know why I've been blessed

  436. in my life is now. I don't I'm not complaining.

  437. I don't want any trials. I don't want any Hard Times.

  438. I don't want any sickness or sadness, I don't want any of

  439. that. I'm just very fortunate.

  440. He says that in my life, it's been pretty smooth and things

  441. are pretty well. We do everything we can to have

  442. happiness and enjoyment and comfort.

  443. We do everything we can to avoid the pain and that's normal.

  444. I get it. The heartache, in fact, every

  445. year, billions of dollars are spent to help man, forget his

  446. Human Condition. In fact, drugs and alcohol

  447. today. Drugs and alcohol are billed as

  448. the prescription for happiness. And by the way, I got to say

  449. this to when I say drugs, I'm not talking about medicine as

  450. prescribed by a doctor for someone that is depressed, which

  451. is a real thing. And they need medication.

  452. That is not what I'm talking about.

  453. When I'm talking about is I'm talking about drugs and alcohol.

  454. And you know what that means and that's build as you got to have

  455. that stuff for happiness. You know why?

  456. Because people want to try To numb the senses, do the senses,

  457. and people want to try to do all they can to avoid The Human

  458. Condition and sometimes that's painful The Human Condition.

  459. But Jesus says this, he tells that his followers are going to

  460. find happiness in morning. In other words, happy are the

  461. sad. What is this paradox mean?

  462. Well, first of all, there's many things that a child of God can

  463. mourn over Many. Thanks, General things.

  464. Let's talk about those first. How about the wickedness of the

  465. world? And I got to say, I am not one

  466. believes that the whole world is rotten.

  467. I am not one that says that all the people in the world are

  468. rotten are bad or nothing because that's just flat, not

  469. true. And if you think that everything

  470. in the world and everybody in the world is bad and wicked and

  471. and and awful. And as you know what, you're you

  472. know what you're doing, you're not getting out among people

  473. because you don't see it because there's wonderful people all

  474. over this world. I have people that are all in my

  475. life that are wonderful people. But that doesn't mean that there

  476. is not wickedness in the world. There is, there's always been

  477. wickedness in the world. So a Christian could mourn in a

  478. general sense. It's only the wickedness of the

  479. world. That is true.

  480. What else? How about this?

  481. How about the plight of the oppressed?

  482. Certainly, that's something we're about this.

  483. How about the Affliction of the innocent?

  484. We look at this and we say it's not fair.

  485. When the innocent is Afflicted, these are things in a general

  486. sense that we could. I could say honestly mourn over.

  487. But that's not the context of this passage, and that's not

  488. what Jesus was talking about. Jesus was talking about a

  489. specific kind of morning, he was talking about mourning over your

  490. personal sins. So in the first beatitude he

  491. reminds us that we need to recognize.

  492. We are nothing apart from God in the second.

  493. Beatitude he wants us to recognize that there's one thing

  494. that separates man from God and that is sin.

  495. That's the one thing. It separates man from God.

  496. He ever stop to consider why God hates sin so much I think the

  497. obvious stuff everybody. I think the obvious stuff is

  498. number one. God is so pure and holy he can't

  499. even look on sin. When the sins of the world were

  500. placed on Jesus, on the cross, he turned his face away.

  501. Jesus had to endure the Affliction of the Cross bearing

  502. the sins of the world as Hebrews 12 says even the shame of the

  503. cross. Though he was pure and innocent

  504. and perfect. So yes, sin is ugly.

  505. And God can't look at that. So God hates that.

  506. Yes, that's true. but number two, God, hates sin folks

  507. because that's the one thing that'll keep you from him

  508. forever. God wants you to go to heaven.

  509. He wants everybody to go to heaven.

  510. The one thing that'll keep somebody from heaven and keep

  511. somebody from the presence of God for all eternity is sin.

  512. So what's Jesus want you to do? Understand.

  513. I'm nothing without God. I need you, Lord, and then mourn

  514. over your sin because that's what's going to keep you from

  515. God. A passage here, please.

  516. Isaiah, 59. And to but your iniquities have

  517. separated you from your God and your sins have hidden his face

  518. from you, so that he will not hear.

  519. I know sin is fun and I'm not going to spend a lot of time

  520. talking about this, but I want to say this about Sin.

  521. I know people sometimes say, let's not talk about Sin let's

  522. just call it something else. Remember a preacher back in the

  523. old days you might remember this.

  524. But one preacher in the old days says why this is kind of a

  525. general idea today? Why can't we just say this, can

  526. we stop calling? It's in.

  527. Can we just call it an unfortunate circumstance in the

  528. upward? Progress of man?

  529. Let's call it something like that.

  530. No, let's call it what it is. And it's ugly.

  531. But I also know this too. I'm not naive.

  532. Sin is fun. To the flesh.

  533. It's fun. It is it gratifies the flesh?

  534. But did you know that true blessedness or true happiness

  535. and sin are completely incompatible?

  536. They don't go together. A person may think they're happy

  537. and joyful in their sinful life. But you can't have true

  538. happiness and have sin in your life.

  539. You can't, they're incompatible. Send it to, happiness are

  540. incompatible. And by the way, God's people

  541. have always been those who mourn when they trespass against him

  542. at me, give you an example. When David sinned with

  543. Bathsheba, this is what David said have mercy upon me.

  544. O God, according to your loving-kindness, according to

  545. the multitude of your Tender Mercies blot out my

  546. transgressions Wash Me thoroughly from my iniquity and

  547. cleanse me from my sin for I acknowledge my transgressions

  548. and my sin is always, before me. Against you.

  549. And you only have I sinned and done this evil in your sight.

  550. Another example. When Peter denied Jesus, like I

  551. mentioned just a moment ago. Remember what Peter did by the

  552. way, he denied Jesus, not only three times but even the Bible

  553. says cursing and swearing, he says I know not the man.

  554. How did Peter feel about that? Felt pretty bad about that,

  555. didn't he? Because in Matthew chapter 26

    Matthew 26 chapter mention

  556. and 75, Peter says this, the Bible says is of Peter.

  557. I mean, He went out and he wept bitterly.

  558. Because he sinned against God. And I got to say, this is not a

  559. bad thing, it's not a bad thing. Paul reminds us that Godly

  560. sorrow has a vital role because it produces repentance to

  561. Salvation. Second Corinthians chapter 7,

    2 Corinthians 7 chapter mention

  562. and verse 10 notice. But Godly sorrow, produces

  563. repentance, leading to Salvation, not to be regretted,

  564. but the sorrow of the world produces death.

  565. Let's look at the first part of this.

  566. When we talk about morning here, what are we talking about?

  567. We're talking about Godly sorrow.

  568. That is a good thing, why? Why?

  569. Because Godly sorrow produces a change in you, it's called

  570. repentance. What's that going to do?

  571. It'll lead you to Salvation? And what does Paul say In this

  572. passage? That's not to be regretted

  573. another words. That's not a bad thing.

  574. It's a good thing, okay? It's okay to mourn for your sin.

  575. On the flip side, though. Worldly sorrow.

  576. Is something else. There's sorrow of the world,

  577. produces death. What is the sorrow of the world?

  578. The sorrow of the world is to be sorry because you have committed

  579. a sin or because you were caught in a sin.

  580. There's a lot of people and their past, their troubled,

  581. about their past and their guilty about their past.

  582. And I'm going to get to that in a moment.

  583. But they do nothing about it. What is that?

  584. Worldly sorrow. It didn't lead to repentance.

  585. Worldly sorrow. They did nothing about it.

  586. Give you a perfect example. Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus.

  587. Was he sorrowful? Yeah, he takes the money.

  588. He takes it back to them. He gives it back to them.

  589. He throws it on the ground. He says, I can't take the money.

  590. I betrayed innocent blood. You know, they said big deal,

  591. your problem, get lost. Sorrowful.

  592. Worldly sorrow. No repentance.

  593. What did he do? The Bible says he went out and

  594. he hung himself. Physical death.

  595. He never repented. Spiritual death.

  596. But the good kind of Sorrowing, the good kind of morning, that's

  597. the kind that's leads to repentance that leads to

  598. Salvation, and that's a good thing.

  599. All right, let's talk about this word sorrow for just a moment,

  600. the word sorrow. There's actually nine different

  601. words for the word, sorrow or morning.

  602. And what's amazing to me is Jesus uses the one that is the

  603. strongest and most severe. It is the word that is used.

  604. By the way, to those describing someone who's lost a loved one

  605. and with gut-wrenching morning, they Mourn, their passing.

  606. It's the same word. But please get this.

  607. He wasn't saying you got to hate yourself.

  608. He was saying, you got to hate your sin.

  609. It's wrong to Hate Yourself. It's wrong to do that.

  610. God doesn't want that. by using this term in this beatitude he's

  611. picturing total, humility acknowledging one spiritual

  612. plight and Jesus says, when you mourn over sin, when you do

  613. that, You're going to be comforted.

  614. The Lord does not leave us comfortless and he does not want

  615. us to live our life in a state of Perpetual mourning.

  616. He doesn't want that in our sorrow.

  617. He doesn't want that. He promises the peace that

  618. surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7, what's the

    Philippians 4:7

  619. piece? Please get this The piece is

  620. first of all, I'm mourn over my sin so that I make it right.

  621. It leads to repentance it produces that in my heart, it

  622. leads to Salvation. So what's the comfort?

  623. I'm forgiven. Man.

  624. Forgiven. Like it never happened.

  625. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding is

  626. knowing. Knowing for a fact that I have

  627. been forgiven and everything is okay between me and God, that's

  628. the peace that surpasses all understanding.

  629. I'm forgiven. We don't have to suffer from

  630. Perpetual guilt. So in context, this beatitude

  631. promises comfort from the grief of Sin from personal infractions

  632. against God. Let me give you some passages

  633. now. First John, chapter 1 and verse

    1 John 1 chapter mention

  634. 7 conditional here. If we walk in the light as he is

  635. in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood

  636. of Jesus Christ, his son cleanses us from all sin.

  637. But I'm going to tell you something, folks.

  638. We talked about the washing of regeneration that is baptism,

  639. right? That's when the, our sins are

  640. washed away, but I'm going to tell you something, you will sin

  641. again. And God, put the plan in place

  642. of what you do when you sin again and you will, there is not

  643. a prayer that I pray. Where I don't ask God to forgive

  644. me. Maybe I committed a sin and I

  645. didn't know it. I want that one covered too.

  646. And you know what's going to cover it, it's going to be the

  647. blood of Jesus. How do I get the blood of Jesus

  648. to cleanse my sin? After I've been baptized after I

  649. have contacted the blood of Jesus.

  650. What's the maintenance process? Brilliant passages.

  651. First John chapter 1 and verse 9.

    1 John 1 chapter mention

  652. Here it is. If we confess our sins, he's

  653. faithful. And just to forgive us our sins

  654. and what cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  655. This word confess means this. When you confess that sin to

  656. God, you are literally saying the same thing that God says

  657. about that sin. You hate that sin look familiar.

  658. There it is morn. Same thing.

  659. Morning, you confess that sin to God but that's not just

  660. admission by the way, that is confession with Godly sorrow and

  661. repentance. What happens when I do that.

  662. He is faithful meaning I can trust him.

  663. He's going to forgive us of those sins and even cleanse us

  664. from all unrighteousness. That means this even the

  665. contamination of that sin is gone.

  666. I said that I said I was going to get back to this.

  667. I want to talk about guilt, I want you to please listen to me.

  668. This is very important. If God forgives you.

  669. You must forgive yourself. I know.

  670. Guilt is a strong terrible thing.

  671. I know what? It's like to be hard on

  672. yourself. but if the promise is that God is going to forgive

  673. you, when you are repentant and you confess that to God, Why in

  674. the world would you still hold on to it?

  675. Let it go. We tell you what happens with

  676. guilt. And not forgiving yourself of

  677. your past. I know people that can't get by

  678. their past. They're Christians, but they

  679. just can't turn loose of the past.

  680. The guilt is so strong, they can't lose it.

  681. You know, what happens, it cripples them in their service,

  682. to God, it's crippling So, please remember this, if God

  683. forgives you, let it go. And forgive yourself, too.

  684. There's something else too. There's even a plan for habitual

  685. sins because you know, what happens sometimes to us, we are

  686. weak. We are not perfect.

  687. And sometimes our sins that we struggle with are the same

  688. things over and over and over again.

  689. And there's a plan for that too. There's a plan for habitual

  690. sins. James 5:16 confess, your

    James 5:16

  691. trespasses to one another and pray one.

  692. For another that you may be healed the effective fervent

  693. prayer of a righteous man avails much.

  694. Okay, I'm going to come to my brother here.

  695. I must say, brother, I'm struggling.

  696. With and you fill in the blank, the Senate.

  697. I asked God to forgive me. I know.

  698. God. Forgives me.

  699. And I'm repentant every time I ask God to forgive me, but I

  700. just keep struggling. I'm weak and I keep falling back

  701. into the same habitual pattern. And I need your help.

  702. My brother is going to pray for me.

  703. And the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

  704. It's going to get the job done, right?

  705. That's number one, but there's benefit.

  706. Number two. I've now just become accountable

  707. to my brother. We don't we have accountability.

  708. And now I go to my brother and he's going to come back to me

  709. and say, hey how you doing with that problem?

  710. How you doing with that? Struggle still praying for you.

  711. Pray for you everyday. I'm going to add one little

  712. thing here. This is the pattern here for

  713. helping us live the Christian Life and avoid habitual sins.

  714. Like, we struggle with so, if somebody comes to you, As their

  715. brother or sister in Christ and when they come to you, and they

  716. confess something like that, privately, keep it to yourself.

  717. Keep it to yourself. It's a precious precious plan.

  718. To help you get through it. And don't broadcast it beyond

  719. what your brother or sister confessed to you keep it there.

  720. Stick to the plan. It's a great thing, being a

  721. Christian, that's great stuff. Okay, in conclusion.

  722. When add one more thing. The specific context of mourning

  723. is mourning over your sin. That is the specific context.

  724. In a general context because in a specific context when we mourn

  725. over our sin, we're going to be comforted and that Comfort is

  726. that I've been forgiven and we know that that's true, but in a

  727. general sense, we are comforted from every get this.

  728. Please Earthly sorrow. About the world's Injustice or

  729. anything else. As a Christian, we also have

  730. comfort. I don't know what you do and

  731. it's not bad what you do and I'm not saying, don't do it.

  732. I'm just saying what I do and what I don't do.

  733. I don't watch the news. It is a bummer.

  734. It is depressing. When I talk to people, they want

  735. to talk about what they heard on the news and all the bad stuff

  736. that's about to happen. I've been hearing about bad

  737. stuff going to happen, by the way, for years, it was supposed

  738. to happen like next week, so Been hearing that for years but

  739. next week's the big thing. It's depressing.

  740. So I don't do it. But whether I did were look at

  741. the news or whether I don't look at the news, I do understand

  742. that there's trouble out there. And I'm a moron over that.

  743. And so, will you? But to the child of God, there's

  744. comfort in that to do. You know why?

  745. It's knowing the assurance that God is totally in control.

  746. No matter what? so, I'm comforted Jesus says,

  747. blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of

  748. Heaven. Blessed are those that mourn

  749. for? They will be comforted.

  750. I'm nothing without God. I'm moreover my sin and I'm

  751. comforted. When I Repent of those things,

  752. and take care of those things in my life.

  753. To know, I've been forgiven, I'm also comforted to know.

  754. Listen, I'm going to put my life in the hands of God and both

  755. Time and Eternity. And it's going to be okay

  756. because he's in control more comfort.

  757. That's it. I'm finished.

  758. Let me ask you this, do you want today the benefit?

  759. That we've talked about of piece of Salvation and comfort.

  760. Do you want that benefit? If you do?

  761. Here's the invitation, here's how you get it.

  762. First of all, you got to hear the word of God.

  763. You've done that today, Romans 10:17.

    Romans 10:17

  764. So then faith comes by hearing and hearing, by the word of God,

  765. hearing the word of God produces something, it produces Faith you

  766. have to believe, with all your heart.

  767. Surely, you do Hebrews 11 and 6, but without faith, it's

  768. impossible to please him for. He who comes to God, must

  769. believe that he is. That he is a rewarder of those

  770. that diligently seek him. Then what here's that word?

  771. Again, we talked about it today, you got to repent, repent of

  772. your life. Repent of your sins acts 17 and

  773. 30. Truly these times of ignorance,

  774. God, overlooked. But now commands, all men

  775. everywhere to repent And then we make the greatest statement will

  776. ever make. We make the confession that

  777. Jesus Christ is the Son of God acts 8:37.

    Acts 8:37

  778. Then Philip said, if you believe with all your heart, you may be

  779. baptized. And he answered and said, I

  780. believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

  781. But next, the point of Salvation Mark 16:16.

    Mark 16:16

  782. You got to be baptized for the remission of your sins.

  783. Mark 16:16. He who believes and is baptized,

    Mark 16:16

  784. will be saved. But he, who does not believe

  785. will be condemned. If you do that.

  786. You could be saved, you could be forgiven, you can have your sins

  787. washed away, you can be comforted.

  788. If you'll do that today, maybe you've taken those steps of

  789. obedience, maybe you straight away.

  790. What a great time to come back. Repent of those things confess.

  791. Those things will pray with you and for you and God will forgive

  792. and restore it. We thank you for listening to
