  1. and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Glory

  2. to Jesus Christ. Today's Gospel reading from

  3. Luke tells us about a man named Jairus. This

  4. same account of Jairus can also be found in the

  5. Gospels of Matthew and of Mark. And from these

  6. accounts we know that Jairus was a ruler of the

  7. synagogue. an important person, a respected man

  8. in Jewish society. And Jairus had a 12 -year

  9. -old daughter, his only daughter. And she was

  10. sick, very sick, close to dying. And as a loving

  11. father, he had tried everything that he could.

  12. He, even with his influence, There was no way

  13. that she could be healed. Nothing had helped.

  14. And yet Jairus had heard of Jesus. He knew that

  15. this person, this man walking around that people

  16. were talking about everywhere, that even in the

  17. synagogue, some negatively, but they had recognized

  18. he was there. that he knew that he has done miracles,

  19. that there had been healings. And so Jairus,

  20. this ruler of the synagogue, came to the Lord

  21. Jesus, fell down at his feet, and begged him

  22. to come to his house, for he knew that if they

  23. could just get there to his house where his daughter

  24. was, that Jesus would heal her. And so he begged

  25. the Lord to come to his house. And the Lord agreed.

  26. And Jesus took off with him towards his house.

  27. And then there were the crowds. People pressing.

  28. Can you imagine, Jairus? We just need to get

  29. to the house. And all these people, they're in

  30. the way. And he's worried for his daughter. And

  31. there is an urgency in him. And then Jesus stops,

  32. and he doesn't move anymore because he talks

  33. to a woman, the woman who had touched his robes,

  34. the woman who had an issue of blood, the woman

  35. whose power had gone out from Jesus and healed.

  36. And you may think that Jairus would be encouraged

  37. because here was a healing again, but the delay

  38. and... We're still not on the way. The journey

  39. to his house. Hurry, it might be too late. And

  40. Jesus said to this woman, the woman with the

  41. issue of blood now healed, daughter, be of good

  42. cheer. Your faith has made you well. Go in peace.

  43. Then a servant came, a servant of Jairus, and

  44. said, your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the

  45. teacher. But when Jesus heard it, he said, Do

  46. not be afraid, only believe, and she will be

  47. made well. And they came to the house of Jairus,

  48. and those who gathered there mourned for her.

  49. And Jesus said to them all, Do not weep. She

  50. is not dead, but sleeping. And they ridiculed

  51. Jesus. But Jairus remembered the words that were

  52. spoken to the woman, only believe. And Jesus

  53. said, only believe and she will live. And Jesus

  54. walked in and said to this young daughter of

  55. Jairus, little girl, arise. And she did. And

  56. she ate some food. And her parents were astonished.

  57. With our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ,

  58. all things are possible. Healings of all kinds.

  59. Bringing Jairus' daughter back from physical

  60. death to life was possible. For with God, all

  61. things are possible. And just as physical rejuvenation

  62. is possible, so is spiritual rejuvenation. The

  63. Lord Jesus will heal you. What is the affliction

  64. that you have? What is the thing that is holding

  65. you down? What is it? God can heal it. The Lord

  66. Jesus Christ. can heal you and save you and sanctify

  67. you. Follow the example of Jairus. Bow down before

  68. Jesus and believe. Well, also this day, we are

  69. celebrating and commemorating the holy wonder

  70. workers and unmercenaries, Cosmos and Damian

  71. of Mesopotamia. When their pagan father died,

  72. Their Christian mother raised them and they grew

  73. into righteous and virtuous men. And they were

  74. trained and skilled as physicians for the body.

  75. But they also believed God and were given by

  76. the Holy Spirit the gift of healing for spiritual

  77. healings as well. And God seeks to heal you.

  78. God seeks to heal us all, to bring us all to

  79. himself, to purify us and sanctify us and make

  80. us whole. What do we need to do? We need to believe.

  81. We need to go to the Lord as Jairus did and believe.

  82. We need, just as Cosmos and Damien went out,

  83. and healed others because of their strong faith

  84. in the Lord and the gifts he had given them,

  85. we too must have that faith and say, Lord, use

  86. my life, heal me, do what you would with me.

  87. Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk says this, Let us remember

  88. and meditate on how he, Jesus, while living in

  89. the world, did not refuse his mercy to anyone.

  90. He gave sight to the blind, cleansing to the

  91. lepers, health to the sick, hearing to the deaf,

  92. freedom to the demon -possessed, and resurrection

  93. to the dead. He heard those who came to him crying

  94. out for their bodily health, had mercy on them,

  95. and healed them. So how much more will he hear

  96. and heal those who ask spiritual healing? For

  97. he created both body and soul. Believe, only

  98. believe. Follow the Lord, seek his will. in all

  99. things, and see what he will do. Trust in the

  100. Lord with all of your heart. Lean not on your

  101. own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge

  102. him, and he will direct your paths. Glory to

  103. Jesus Christ.
