  1. Welcome everyone. We have a wonderful crowd here

  2. today and we're so thankful we have visitors that are among us,

  3. and we want you to know that you are our honored guest and we

  4. welcome you back every time that we have an opportunity to

  5. assemble and worship God in spirit and in truth.

  6. As always is the case, I do consider it a privilege to speak

  7. concerning the Word of God. And I will say this, it's even a

  8. greater privilege to speak words that Jesus preached so long ago.

  9. We're continuing our series on the greatest sermon ever

  10. preached. It's called the Sermon on the

  11. Mount, found in Matthew 5-6 and seven.

  12. And you might remember the last time that I taught you.

  13. Remember that Jesus said, you have heard that it had been

  14. said, you shall not commit adultery.

  15. But Jesus says, but I say to you that whoever looks upon a woman

  16. to lust after her has committed adultery already in his heart.

  17. We talked about what that means in great detail last time.

  18. We'll not touch on any of that this morning.

  19. When Jesus finished those words, though, is the next two verses

  20. and he talks about marriage. And I want to tell you where I

  21. got the phrase or I got the title, Marriage is sacred and

  22. binding. I just got it from my Bible

  23. right above these two verses. As the Bible was being printed.

  24. Somebody wrote marriage is binding and marriage is sacred.

  25. So I just put that on as the title.

  26. That's where I got it. Let me say something about

  27. marriage, please. Marriage is the most primary of

  28. all relationships. And I have to tell you, if you

  29. have a good marriage, there's nothing in the world that's

  30. better. And perhaps if you have a bad

  31. marriage, there's nothing in the world that's worse.

  32. I get that. I will say this too.

  33. It's all about who you choose. And that's not the topic we're

  34. going to consider today. But you got to choose the right

  35. one. Your happiness depends on

  36. choosing the right one. The marriage relationship is the

  37. greatest relationship in all the world.

  38. When I think about that, I think about this, that God has

  39. ordained the marriage relationship meaning this.

  40. That somebody that knows me, every bit of me, with all my

  41. weaknesses, still loves me enough to want to be with me no

  42. matter what. That's great stuff.

  43. What did Jesus say about this great subject a long time ago?

  44. First of all, I'm going to say this about marriage.

  45. A lot of times in the world, people don't view it as sacred

  46. or binding. In fact, did you know I looked

  47. at this up this morning? These are the latest statistics

  48. as of 2022 in the United States of America in 2020, two, 50% of

  49. all marriages end in divorce. That's first marriages In the

  50. United States of America, 60% of all second marriages end in

  51. divorce. You see a trend and 75% of all

  52. third marriages end in divorce in the United States of America.

  53. Marriage though is sacred and binding.

  54. What did Jesus say in Matthew chapter 5?

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  55. Jesus says. Furthermore, it has been said

  56. whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of

  57. divorce. But I say to you that whoever

  58. divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality or

  59. adultery causes her to commit adultery.

  60. And whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.

  61. I have to say this before we go any further, please.

  62. You're going to hear me use words like this old law, old

  63. covenant, and you're going to hear me use words like new law

  64. and new covenant. And this is what I'm talking

  65. about when I say old law. I'm talking about the old law of

  66. Moses and the old law of Moses existing before Jesus.

  67. And when I talk about the new covenant, I'm talking about that

  68. which is an establishment after Jesus died, after he was buried,

  69. after he rose again the third day, ascended to his Father, and

  70. after the church was established in Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  71. OK, So when I say old covenant or old law, I'm talking about

  72. the old law of Moses before Jesus, before the church.

  73. When I say new law, I'm talking about that which applies to

  74. Christians in the church age that began in Acts 2 and it

  75. exists even today. OK, that being said, Jesus

  76. refers to the old part in the first part of this passage.

  77. It's on here in verse 31 he said.

  78. Furthermore, it has been said whoever divorces his wife let

  79. him give her a certificate of divorce.

  80. So in verse 31, it's basically a summary of what all the Mosaic

  81. system legislated regarding divorce.

  82. And what Jesus is doing is he's referring back to Deuteronomy in

  83. the Old Testament chapter 24, beginning with verse one as its

  84. basis. Notice when a man takes a wife

  85. and marries her and it happens that she finds no favor in his

  86. eyes because of some uncleanness in her.

  87. Please hold that phrase uncleanness because we're going

  88. to get back to what that means. Many people misunderstand that

  89. this is going back to the old law of Moses, OK, because he's

  90. found some uncleanness in her and he writes her a certificate

  91. of divorce, puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house

  92. when she has departed from his house and goes and becomes

  93. another man's wife. If the latter husband detests

  94. her and writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand

  95. and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies

  96. who took her as his wife, then her former husband who divorced

  97. her must not take her back to be his wife after she has been

  98. defiled. For that is an abomination

  99. before the Lord. And you shall not bring sin on

  100. the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

  101. OK, remember, before we go any further, regardless of what

  102. happened under the law of Moses, and we're going to get specific

  103. about that, regardless of what happened, God hates divorce.

  104. He hates it. It's always been that way.

  105. We know these very beautiful passages.

  106. I'm going to be very brief about the passage, but I want to make

  107. a point that maybe we don't always make.

  108. In the book of Genesis, when God created everything and He

  109. created man. God looks down upon man in his

  110. loneliness. What does he say?

  111. It's not good for a man to be alone.

  112. I'm going to give him a helper. We know the story.

  113. I use this passage every time I marry someone, perform a

  114. marriage ceremony. Absolutely, we all do.

  115. Anyone that does that, He causes a deep sleep to fall upon Adam.

  116. He took a rib from his side and made the woman.

  117. He brought the woman to the man. Remember what he said.

  118. You remember what the man said, he looked upon her and he said

  119. she is now bone of my bones, she is flesh of my flesh.

  120. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of

  121. man. Then he said therefore shall a

  122. man leave his father and his mother and shall be joined into

  123. his wife, and they shall become or be one flesh.

  124. OK, here's the point I want to make.

  125. If you ever stop to consider the gift that God just gave to man,

  126. the gift. It's not good for a man to be

  127. lonely. It's not good for a man to be

  128. alone. I wouldn't want to be that.

  129. It's the greatest relationship in all the world.

  130. And I'm going to tell you this, the marriage relationship is the

  131. greatest relationship in all the world except for your

  132. relationship with Jesus Christ. That's the only one greater.

  133. That's it. And God gave you that as a gift.

  134. He gave you a helper for life. He gave it for life.

  135. But God hates divorce. How do I know that?

  136. I didn't just speculate. The Bible says that Malachi 216

  137. for the Lord God of Israel says that he hates divorce, for it

  138. covers 1's garment with violence, says the Lord of

  139. hosts. Therefore, take heed to your

  140. spirit that you do not deal treacherously, OK?

  141. In addition, did you know that God never authorized divorce

  142. even under Mosaic Law? He didn't authorize it, but

  143. because of Israel's heart being hardened, He regulated it.

  144. How did He regulate it? He regulated it with a

  145. certificate of divorce. I did a little research.

  146. Historically, by the way, people were getting divorces for

  147. everything, anything and everything.

  148. I don't like you anymore. That's it.

  149. Al, you bother me. I'm really glad you can't get a

  150. divorce or leaving your clothes laying around.

  151. I might have been kicked out a long time ago.

  152. People were divorcing their spouse for ridiculous reasons.

  153. It was never to be that. It was always to be man and

  154. woman. And yes, one man married to one

  155. woman and that was for life. That's always the way it was

  156. supposed to be. But because of Israel's hardened

  157. heart, God regulated it with a certificate of divorce.

  158. You had to have your paperwork. And This is why there were two

  159. reasons. Please consider the following.

  160. Again, this is under the old Law of Moses.

  161. It protected the woman from being sent away by an angry and

  162. impulsive husband, number one. Number two, you had to have a

  163. certificate of divorce because it prohibited the marriage of a

  164. divorced woman to her first husband after she had been

  165. defiled by the second marriage. In other words, a husband needed

  166. to think twice. Do I really want to divorce my

  167. wife? Because if I do and she marries

  168. another, I can't take her back under the old law of Moses.

  169. So it was regulated by certificate of divorce.

  170. Here's another passage that supports what I just said.

  171. Jeremiah 3 and verse one. They say if a man divorces his

  172. wife and she goes from him and becomes another man's, may he

  173. return to her again, would not that land be greatly polluted?

  174. So to understand the meaning of Matthew 5 and 31 and what Jesus

  175. is about to say in Matthew 5 and 32, we have to notice the

  176. following please Mosaic law, please get this did not allow

  177. divorce for the cause of fornication.

  178. Remember when I said in Deuteronomy 24 and verse one

  179. that that phrase uncleanness, we're going to get to what it

  180. means. I'll make the statement 1st and

  181. I'm going to prove it to you, OK?

  182. Under the old law of Moses, divorce was not allowed for the

  183. cause of sexual immorality or the cause of fornication or

  184. adultery. It was not.

  185. So what do we mean? What we mean is if that's true,

  186. then Deuteronomy chapter 24 and verse one, that phrase some

    Deuteronomy 24 chapter mention

  187. uncleanness is not referring to fornication.

  188. It's not referring to adultery. Now what did Mosaic law address

  189. or what did Mosaic law say about fornication?

  190. There were actually 5 situations in the Scriptures regarding

  191. fornication, but not one of these allows for a divorce.

  192. I'm going to notice 5 things with you here.

  193. They are #1 premarital impurity between a man and unmarried man

  194. and an unmarried, unengaged woman results in marriage or a

  195. fine, but not divorce, as the Bible says.

  196. He may not put her away all his days.

  197. Those passages are Deuteronomy 22 verses 28 to 29 and Exodus

    Deuteronomy 22:28–29 Exodus 22:16

  198. chapter 22 verses 16 and 17. That's number one.

  199. Here's another one. Premarital unchastity between a

  200. man and an engaged woman not engaged to him.

  201. Get this? This is pretty rough.

  202. Results in a death sentence for the man under the old law.

  203. The woman's fate is dependent upon the location and

  204. circumstances surrounding impropriety.

  205. Deuteronomy 22, verses 23 through 27.

    Deuteronomy 22:23–27

  206. Here's #3 the post Marital discovery of a wife's premarital

  207. unchastity resulted in the death penalty for the wife.

  208. Deuteronomy 2213 through 21. Don't you?

  209. Aren't you glad you don't live under the Law of Moses?

  210. Adultery between a man and a woman not married to each other

  211. results in the death of both Deuteronomy 22 and 22.

  212. How about one more? Suspicion of adultery resulted

  213. in the priestly administration of a divine bitter water test.

  214. If found guilty, the woman suffers a slow and shameful

  215. death from the Lord. Numbers 511 through 31.

  216. Now I'm going to tell you something.

  217. If you want to know about this bitter water test, read numbers

  218. five 11231. Please don't do it now, then I

  219. won't have your attention. It's very long reading.

  220. But if you want to know what that bitter water test read that

  221. after services. 5 situations of fornication.

  222. In all 5 cases just mentioned, divorce is not an option even

  223. though sexual immorality had occurred.

  224. What resulted in those cases? Here they are, marriage,

  225. monetary fines, or death, but not divorce under the law of

  226. Moses. And why is that significant?

  227. I'll tell you why that's significant.

  228. Have you ever heard of the position no exception?

  229. Sometimes people have a no exception position.

  230. Now, by the way, Jesus is going to give an exception, but there

  231. are those that believe in a no exception position.

  232. It means that there's no exception.

  233. There's never a case when you can be divorced and remarried.

  234. Jesus is going to give the exception.

  235. People that believe in that concept or that position say

  236. that the only thing Jesus was doing is in Matthew 532.

  237. He was reiterating what was legislated under the old law.

  238. Not so fast, because under the old law, fornication was not a

  239. cause for adultery. That's not the case.

  240. Fornication never resulted in divorce under the Mosaic Law.

  241. It resulted in marriage, monetary fines, or death, but

  242. not divorce. OK, saying all that, this is

  243. what Jesus says he says. But I say to you, So in other

  244. words, he says, you've heard that it was said before this.

  245. But now I say to you, you know what he was doing?

  246. He was giving new authoritative law, just like he's done

  247. throughout the Sermon on the Mount so far.

  248. When he said, when he reached back and he said, you've heard

  249. that he'd been said, you shall not kill.

  250. But I say to you, if you're angry with your brother without

  251. a 'cause you've committed murder in your heart, see the point?

  252. You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that if you

  253. lust after a woman, you've committed it in your heart

  254. already. Here's new authoritative law

  255. regarding the marriage relationship, about marriage and

  256. divorce, and it exists for the church today.

  257. Then he says this, that whoever, and sometimes this phrase is

  258. very much misunderstood and there's much confusion.

  259. What does the word whoever mean? It's caused confusion among

  260. Bible students and so forth. But here's the question.

  261. Is this word a universal word? Some people believe that it is

  262. meaning anyone, period. Here's my question.

  263. Is this word whoever referring to everybody, even non

  264. Christians? Does the laws that Jesus was

  265. speaking here, does it refer to non Christians and marriages

  266. that non Christians may have before they ever become a

  267. Christian? The answer to that is no.

  268. The word whoever is exclusive to what he's talking about.

  269. Jesus was living under the law of Moses still because he had

  270. not died, He was not buried, he had not raised from the dead, He

  271. did not ascend to his father, and the church was not

  272. established yet in Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  273. So Jesus, when he preached the great Sermon on the Mount was

  274. preaching New Kingdom law, living under Old Kingdom times

  275. or the Old Testament times. He was saying that whoever.

  276. In other words, this is referring to Christians, this is

  277. referring to church members in the future.

  278. Jesus never dealt, by the way, with a marriage relationship in

  279. the New Testament that wasn't Christian, Christian.

  280. Now Paul did and 1st Corinthians Chapter 7 and that's a sermon

  281. for another time. When Paul dealt with A2 people

  282. and I think the context is they were both non Christians.

  283. They got married and then one obeyed the gospel and the Bible

  284. says that the marriage is sanctified by the believer and

  285. so forth. And Paul gave some rules for

  286. that. And that's another sermon.

  287. Jesus was saying Christians here.

  288. So whoever means Christians, members of the church baptized,

  289. believers baptized into Jesus Christ, church members today.

  290. OK. Notice this of why it doesn't

  291. apply to people before they are baptized or before they're

  292. Christians. As one scholar said.

  293. If Jesus teaching applies universally and would not

  294. include and would include non Christians as some believe, then

  295. a Sinner or a non Christian who is previously divorced and

  296. remarried for other than the specific cause of fornication is

  297. duty bound to separate from his current spouse before he could

  298. become a Christian. But nowhere in the New Testament

  299. is such an action required or even implied now.

  300. Simply put, Jesus was referring to Christians and this is what

  301. he says regarding divorce. Whoever divorces his wife except

  302. or for any reason except sexual immorality.

  303. And then it goes on further. But the exception of our Lord's

  304. instruction is here. But it doesn't diminish the rule

  305. or the force of the rule. Remember when I said God hates

  306. divorce? OK, It doesn't diminish the

  307. force of the rule. It just shows under what

  308. conditions that rule may be amended.

  309. Let's notice what the rule is. Here's the rule in Mark chapter

    Mark 10 chapter mention

  310. 10, verses 11:00 and 12:00. So we said to them, whoever

  311. divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against

  312. her. And if a woman divorces her

  313. husband and marries another, she commits adultery.

  314. That is the rule. So Matthew 532 is the exception

  315. to the rule. And I want to say something

  316. about the state of California. I know California gets slammed

  317. pretty hard, especially from people of other States and even

  318. people in our state slamming California.

  319. And I'm just going to be realistic with you.

  320. And to you at this time, first of all, I want to be honest.

  321. I love living in California. And I'm to be honest with you, I

  322. wouldn't live anywhere else. My life is here, my work is

  323. here, everything's here, my family's here.

  324. So I enjoy and I love living in California.

  325. Do I love everything about California?

  326. No. Do I love liberal views and

  327. liberal ideas in all aspects of California?

  328. No. Do I love all the liberal laws

  329. that exist in the state of California?

  330. No. But I do love living in the

  331. state of California. OK, all that being said, if you

  332. want to get a divorce in the state of California, you can

  333. only get a divorce for one real reason, under the umbrella of

  334. irreconcilable differences. You cannot legally in the state

  335. of California get a divorce for adultery as that cause.

  336. They don't care. They just consider it whatever

  337. whatever reason you call it. It's called irreconcilable

  338. differences, and you can get a divorce for whatever reason if

  339. it falls into the category of irreconcilable differences,

  340. whatever that is. OK, I thought that's the way

  341. that it was in all of the United States and all the other states,

  342. too. But the other, well, a couple

  343. months ago, I was holding the meeting in another state and I

  344. heard of a case where somebody left a man, she left her

  345. husband, and she wanted to get a divorce.

  346. There was no adultery. She had no scriptural grounds.

  347. They were just people taking it to the law.

  348. And they went to the law and they went to a judge and they

  349. tried to get, she wanted to get a divorce because she just

  350. wanted to leave her husband. You know what they said?

  351. It's illegal to divorce your spouse except for adultery.

  352. I'm glad there's at least some states out there that want to

  353. stick to the Bible. Jesus says there's one exception

  354. in that sexual immorality. That is adultery for divorce.

  355. Our state says whatever irreconcilable differences.

  356. But notice what else Jesus says. What happens when you divorce

  357. your wife for any reason except for sexual immorality?

  358. Notice what Jesus said. Not me.

  359. Jesus says you caused her to commit adultery.

  360. If a man dismisses or divorces his spouse for reasons other

  361. than sexual immorality, he makes her commit adultery.

  362. Now, why is that? Here's the idea, by the way, if

  363. the husband, and we'll get to why the husband's being

  364. addressed so much here, but if the husband initiates an

  365. unscriptural divorce from his wife, in other words, she's

  366. innocent. She didn't cheat on him, she

  367. didn't commit adultery and he wants to divorce her.

  368. He is aiding in her immorality. Jesus says he's causing her to

  369. commit adultery. Why is that?

  370. Very startling words. The assumption is this because a

  371. divorced woman will probably remarry and if she had an

  372. unscriptural divorce, she had no right to remarry.

  373. Please stay with me. It's going to get simple, I

  374. promise. The idea is referring back to

  375. maybe a culture that doesn't apply so much today about the

  376. need to remarry. I know that in our cultures, we

  377. have women that are educated, great.

  378. We have women that are independent, able to take care

  379. of themselves. So if a spouse of a husband left

  380. a woman today, she wouldn't necessarily have to be married

  381. to another man to be taken care of because she can take care of

  382. herself. So maybe culturally, that

  383. culturally may not apply that example so much today.

  384. Back then, oh, it applied ancient Jewish cultures, women

  385. didn't work. The man provided, the man went

  386. out and worked. The man had whatever career, the

  387. man had the job, the man provided and the woman was at

  388. home. So if a man divorced a woman

  389. unscripturally in those ancient societies, she would be all

  390. alone, destitute, all alone, needing help and assistance.

  391. She would actually have to be compelled to marry another man

  392. to take care of her. What Jesus says is if he she has

  393. been divorced for any other reason except sexual immorality,

  394. you've just caused her to commit adultery because she'll marry

  395. another man, be forced to remarry.

  396. Here's some other things that might apply today, and don't

  397. underestimate this one. How about loneliness?

  398. I'll tell you what, loneliness is rough.

  399. I'm fortunate I'm not lonely at all.

  400. But I know people that are really lonely because they're

  401. all by themself, and sometimes maybe we should be more

  402. considerate of the feelings of others that are lonely and maybe

  403. do more to come to their aid and support when they're lonely.

  404. Loneliness might cause somebody to get remarried.

  405. What else? Even today, How about

  406. unfulfilled natural desire? You got to throw that in.

  407. That's true. How about this, How about a

  408. negative or trying to avoid a negative social stigma?

  409. Now, it's not that big of a deal today, but there was a time and

  410. some of you older folks, and I just say maybe a little more

  411. seasoned than I am. You're older than 57.

  412. That's my age. I'll just say it that way more

  413. seasoned. Maybe you lived in a time like

  414. maybe in the 50s when divorce came with a tremendous stigma.

  415. Remember the phrase of the word divorcee?

  416. There was a time when that phrase divorcee had a real

  417. stigma to it. So maybe someone today might

  418. want to be remarried because avoiding the social stigma of

  419. being divorced. JW Mcgarvey said this.

  420. A woman, when divorced by her husband, naturally seeks a

  421. second marriage, if for no other reason than to vindicate herself

  422. from being the imputation cast on from the imputation cast on

  423. her by the divorce. So Jesus places the weight of

  424. this teaching squarely on the man's shoulders because the man

  425. has the role of or the responsibility of being the

  426. family caretaker. But I will tell you this, though

  427. I have to add this The rules apply to men and women both.

  428. The divorce and remarriage rule and law of the New Testament

  429. applies to men and women too, both.

  430. The weight of the teaching now is falling culturally,

  431. especially on the man, because he's the caretaker.

  432. It's his responsibility He is to provide both physically and

  433. emotionally by nourishing and cherishing his wife.

  434. Ephesians 529 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but

  435. nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

  436. That's the husband's role, and to do otherwise violates God's

  437. plan. I have to do it.

  438. If you think that your marriage is difficult and you have to

  439. work at it and maybe you're not happy, So what?

  440. So what? Work it out and because you have

  441. to work with your marriage and work with your spouse and your

  442. relationship, it doesn't mean your relationship is bad.

  443. Anybody that says I've never had to work something out with my

  444. you're lying or something's wrong with you because that's

  445. just part of it. Now, there is a reason there is

  446. an exception, but I'm just talking about getting along.

  447. I'm talking about working stuff out.

  448. I'm talking about that I'm going to get to some other things

  449. later. So hold, hold that thought.

  450. I'll get back to you if I know what you're going through your

  451. mind right now. I'll get back to some of the

  452. things you're thinking about. Let's just continue on our our

  453. flow here causes her to commit adultery and whoever marries a

  454. woman who is divorced commits adultery.

  455. The Lord's legislation, as one scholar said, if followed,

  456. eliminates the immorality that results from an unscriptural

  457. divorce. And when this the law is

  458. rejected, all parties become entangled with guilt.

  459. Please notice the following. Notice what happens in an

  460. unscriptural divorce. Here's what happens #1 The

  461. husband, because of an unscriptural divorce when he

  462. marries, commits adultery. That's number one.

  463. Number two, the second wife commits adultery because he's

  464. ineligible to marry her #3 the first wife becomes a fornicator

  465. when she marries another Romans 7 and two.

  466. Number four, and her new husband is guilty too because he married

  467. her. Wow.

  468. What's the Lord saying here? What the Lord is saying here is

  469. all four people are now involved in the sin, all because a man or

  470. a woman unscripturally divorced his or her spouse.

  471. Here's my point, folks. The impact of the Lord's

  472. teaching is this, that one who does not have the right to

  473. divorce does not have the right to remarry.

  474. And again, we're talking about Christians in the Kingdom,

  475. church members. We're not talking about

  476. unbelievers. We're not talking about people

  477. that have never been baptized by their mission of their sins.

  478. We're talking about Christians. So any attempt to justify an

  479. unscriptural divorce and subsequent remarriage is futile.

  480. So remember this, God's plan for marriage has always been the

  481. same. It's one man married to one

  482. woman and that's for life. That's number one.

  483. Number two, even under the law of Moses, remember God tolerated

  484. divorce, but that was never His plan or His desire.

  485. Matthew 19 and verse 8 says this.

  486. He said to them, Moses, because of the hardness of your heart,

  487. permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it

  488. was not so. He gave the rule of marriage

  489. that we've already established in Mark chapter 10, verses 11:00

    Mark 10 chapter mention

  490. and 12:00. So we said to them, whoever

  491. divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against

  492. her. And if a woman divorces her

  493. husband and marries another, she commits adultery.

  494. That's the rule. Here's the exception, except for

  495. sexual immorality. What am I saying, folks?

  496. I'm saying this under the Law of Moses, adultery was not a cause

  497. for divorce. There were other things we read

  498. about what they were bad stuff, right?

  499. Fornication brought marriage, fines and death.

  500. What Jesus is saying is this, but I'm saying to you, if your

  501. spouse cheats on you, commits adultery, you have a choice.

  502. If you so choose, you can divorce that spouse for the

  503. cause of adultery, and yes, you can be married to another.

  504. That's the exception. That's the exception.

  505. There's no other exception but that if that spouse decides I

  506. don't want to divorce my spouse, I want to forgive my spouse, can

  507. they do that? Absolutely.

  508. Take them back? You bet, but it's up to the

  509. innocent party or the one that was affected in it to make that

  510. choice. They have the choice.

  511. What Jesus was saying is I'm saying you to you.

  512. This under new authoritative law under the Kingdom, when the

  513. church is established, you got Christians that are married,

  514. right? Two Christians don't get a

  515. divorce. It's unscriptural except for the

  516. cause of sexual immorality, fornication, which is adultery.

  517. This is not the only time that Jesus mentioned this in Matthew

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  518. chapter 5. He also mentioned it in Matthew

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  519. chapter 19. That's the exception.

  520. Again, except for sexual immorality.

  521. Remember this as I draw my remarks to a close.

  522. There's only two things that separate marriage in God's eyes.

  523. Only two things. I don't care about

  524. irreconcilable differences. I don't care about the courts.

  525. When it comes to two Christians like Jesus was talking about,

  526. there's only two things that separate marriage in God's eyes.

  527. One is death. If your spouse dies, you are no

  528. longer married. And by the way, Jesus even dealt

  529. with that when the Sadducees questioned him.

  530. There's no marriage in heaven. There's no marriage in heaven.

  531. We're going to be like the angels of God in heaven.

  532. No marriage, not going to be marriage or given marriage in

  533. heaven. There's no marriage.

  534. We're spiritual beings in heaven.

  535. We're going to know each other, I think, as we were known.

  536. But there's no marriage. OK.

  537. So death separates marriage. That's number one.

  538. So if your spouse has died, you're no longer bound to that

  539. marriage law because your spouse is gone and it severs the tie,

  540. right? You're not married anymore.

  541. What's the other thing? Sexual immorality.

  542. Fornication. King James calls it adultery.

  543. That's the only other thing that separates that in God's eyes.

  544. Maybe you were thinking when I was talking about this.

  545. Wait a minute. I've been married to a creep.

  546. Do I have to stay with him? I'm a Christian for, for

  547. example, I'm I was married to an abusive man.

  548. He was horribly abusive to me. Do I have to stay with him?

  549. No, you don't. But there's only one scriptural

  550. ground for scriptural divorce and that is sexual immorality.

  551. You don't have to stay there, separate and get out of there,

  552. but it doesn't give you the right to divorce that horrible

  553. person and marry somebody else. Only one exception in Roman in

  554. in first Corinthians Chapter 7. I told you when Paul dealt with

    1 Corinthians 7 chapter mention

  555. the relationship 2 non Christians 1 obeys the gospel.

  556. So now what? You have a Christian married to

  557. a non Christian and as I said, it is sanctified in the eyes of

  558. God by the believer. So God recognizes that marriage

  559. in his eyes, right? OK, what happens when the

  560. unbeliever wants to depart? Paul says let him depart.

  561. You're not under bondage in such cases.

  562. What does that mean? Some people believe that means,

  563. oh, you're not under bondage means you can just go get

  564. married to anybody else. Under bondage means you're not

  565. under bondage of fulfilling your marital responsibility to that

  566. spouse and making it work. Let him go.

  567. But then what did Paul say? Here's your choice.

  568. Remain unmarried Christian, Christian spouse or be

  569. reconciled back to your spouse again, because there's only one

  570. exception, folks, and that's sexual immorality.

  571. If they do that, you can divorce them for that cause and you can

  572. be married to another scripturally.

  573. In conclusion, let me just say this, if you're contemplating

  574. marriage, it's a serious matter. So don't enter into it lightly.

  575. Don't you better make sure and make sure that the person that

  576. you are going to marry or you want to marry is on the same

  577. page that you are spiritually, where God is first and foremost

  578. in your life. I'm going to tell you something,

  579. a marriage that is based on that.

  580. You can take anything that comes your way, man.

  581. You can do it. You can handle it and even when

  582. the hardest things in life come your way, it won't pull you

  583. apart because you got God is number one and God is the focus

  584. and the center of your life and your marriage is what it should

  585. be because of it, man, you handle anything.

  586. Choose the right one, get the right one.

  587. Number two, don't enter into it lightly and understand this

  588. marriage is for life. I'm finished.

  589. Thank you for your kind listening.

  590. These were the words of Jesus. I hope that something was said

  591. that was edifying to you and explaining these passages that

  592. Jesus spoke so long ago. If you have any questions about

  593. what I have said in any way, please talk to me after

  594. services. I'll do my very best to answer

  595. any questions or clarifications that you might have.

  596. But now we've come to the time when we extend an invitation.

  597. We never preached from God's Word without extending an

  598. invitation. Do you remember when I said that

  599. the rules that Jesus was referring to refer to

  600. Christians? This is what you have to do to

  601. become a Christian here. It's very simple, and I know a

  602. lot of people have different ideas, but this is what you have

  603. to do to become a Christian. You got to hear the Word of God.

  604. Romans 10/17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the

  605. word of God. That's what generates faith is

  606. the word of God #2 what do you got to do?

  607. You got to make a choice. You got to believe with all your

  608. heart. Hebrews 11:00 and 6:00 But

  609. without faith it's impossible to please Him, for he who comes to

  610. God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those

  611. who diligently seek Him. What else Jesus says?

  612. I got to change my life. I got to repent of my sins.

  613. Acts 17 and 30. Truly these times of ignorance

  614. God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.

  615. What else I need to be able to make the greatest confession,

  616. say the greatest words ever stated, and confess that Jesus

  617. Christ is the Son of God. Acts 837 And Philip said, if you

  618. believe with all your heart, you may.

  619. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the

  620. Son of God. Upon taking these steps, you are

  621. now a fit candidate to contact the blood of Jesus.

  622. And this is what washes your sins away.

  623. It's the only thing that'll take your sins away.

  624. You can't hear it away, believe it away, repent it away, or

  625. confess it away. If you want your sins to be

  626. washed away, you got to do this. Be baptized for the remission of

  627. your sins. Mark 1616.

  628. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does

  629. not believe will be condemned. If you've never taken those

  630. steps of obedience and you would like to, we, we are standing

  631. ready to assist you. We would love to help you in

  632. that. Maybe you have taken those steps

  633. of obedience. Maybe there's something in your

  634. life that's not what it should be.

  635. Maybe you're a child of God and you've drifted away and it's

  636. time to come back. If you want to be the class,

  637. come forward while we stand and while we sing.
