  1. It certainly is wonderful to be here with all of you today.

  2. We have a wonderful crowd and we're so thankful.

  3. We have, as has been mentioned, we have some visitors that are

  4. among us and we want you to know you are our honored guest.

  5. And we just simply say welcome. I've been very encouraged by the

  6. teachings of Jesus in this masterful sermon he preached so

  7. long ago in Matthew chapter 5-6 and seven.

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  8. And as we continue our series on the great Sermon on the Mount,

  9. we now come to Matthew Chapter 7 and verse #1 And I'll just say

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  10. at the very outset of this lesson, this verse is one of the

  11. most misunderstood and abused passages in all of the teaching

  12. of Jesus. Many people look at this passage

  13. and they say to justify sinful behavior, sinful actions, or

  14. sinful choices by saying, look, Jesus says I'm not allowed to

  15. judge anybody and that judging is condemned.

  16. Some people in in the attempt to try to justify cultural

  17. relativism, make an appeal to this verse of Scripture because

  18. sometimes people just don't believe that there's actually a

  19. definitive standard of truth anymore.

  20. Even though Jesus says in John 17 and 17 sanctify them by your

  21. truth, Your word is truth. The passage that we are in

  22. reference to is one that we all heard and one that we all know,

  23. and that is this Matthew Chapter 7 and verse #1 Jesus says judge

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  24. not that you be not judged. What was Jesus saying here?

  25. Was Jesus condemning all forms of judgment?

  26. Here's the problem when people try to convince themselves that

  27. there's no standard of truth, that standards don't matter and

  28. all of that. The problem with all of that, if

  29. that is true, then everything that we do in our life is

  30. without responsibility and without accountability.

  31. And you know what? Have you ever stopped to

  32. consider? If everything in life is without

  33. responsibility and accountability, then absolutely

  34. nothing in life matters. Nothing matters and everybody

  35. can do anything that they want to do and it really doesn't

  36. matter. And I will not violate my

  37. conscience and you can't say anything to me because after

  38. all, Jesus says don't judge. OK, Let me just say very clearly

  39. here, Jesus when he made that statement was not condemning all

  40. forms of judgment. Please get that.

  41. He is not condemning all forms of judgment.

  42. Give you some examples in this very chapter.

  43. Later on, beginning in verse 15, Jesus said this.

  44. Beware of false teachers. Right after that he said this,

  45. that we have to discriminate between what is right and what

  46. is wrong. Furthermore, the Bible says in

  47. first John chapter 4 and verse 1, John tells us to test the

    1 John 4 chapter mention

  48. spirits to see that they are of God.

  49. Some translations say try the spirits.

  50. Who are the spirits? The spirits in reference to the

  51. context of that passage is people that would say that

  52. they're speaking by way of divine inspiration.

  53. In other words, beware of those that are going to be false

  54. teachers and understand who they might be.

  55. Then he said this John says that we have to reject them when we

  56. see them. Second John and chapter second

  57. John and 10. Finally, Paul says to reject any

  58. other gospel than that which we have been given.

  59. That's the Word of God passed down by Apostolic teaching,

  60. Apostolic tradition, which is the word of God in the New

  61. Testament. And we got to reject any other

  62. gospel. You know what that involves

  63. every one of those things. It involves judging.

  64. It involves making judgments. I'm going to make a bold

  65. statement that I made a couple months ago.

  66. I didn't expound upon it. I didn't elaborate on it.

  67. And the reason that I did not is because I knew Matthew Chapter 7

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  68. was coming. But understand this, and I

  69. believe is with all my heart, I think this is true.

  70. Everybody makes decisions and judgments every day of your

  71. life, even about people. We all do.

  72. We make judgments even about people every day.

  73. Remember, there's a difference between judging and making and

  74. being judgmental. Somebody might say this too.

  75. If you make a judgment about something or someone, somebody

  76. might say, oh, you're being judgmental.

  77. Not necessarily. What is the difference?

  78. And this is review. What is the difference between

  79. judging and being judgmental? Judging, you remember, is this.

  80. It is making a decision. It is drawing a conclusion.

  81. It is making an assessment that is based on two things, evidence

  82. and fact. That's what it means to judge.

  83. Anything wrong with that? Absolutely not.

  84. What's the difference between judging and being judgmental?

  85. The definition of the word judgmental is this.

  86. It is being overly concerned with judging others.

  87. One denotes an attitude. So judging is an action.

  88. Judgmental is an attitude. What the Lord's going to condemn

  89. is he's going to, he's going to condemn a specific kind of

  90. judging. That all stems from an improper

  91. attitude. That's what it means to be

  92. judgmental. But let me just give you

  93. something. Let me just share something with

  94. you that can happen to us if we are overly concerned with

  95. judging others, which is the definition of being judgmental.

  96. Let me tell you what can happen to us.

  97. It can cause us to meddle in affairs that are not our own.

  98. Seems to me I read something in the word of God about that.

  99. Seems to me that the wise man Solomon of old and Proverbs said

  100. something about that. He said this.

  101. He that meddles in affairs that are not his own is like taking a

  102. dog by the ears. You want to know what that's

  103. like? Go up to a mean old dog, go up

  104. to his ears and get you a hoped. Go ahead.

  105. That's what it's like when you meddle in affairs that are not

  106. your own. I want to share something

  107. personal with you. Many years ago, when I was young

  108. and I'm no longer that, when I was young and I decided I'm a

  109. crack out and preach, I got a lot of tremendous, wonderful

  110. advice from a lot of people, much of which came from older

  111. preachers and I cherished everything they ever said to me.

  112. Some of those preachers that I dearly loved and respected are

  113. no longer with us. Some still are, many aren't.

  114. But you know what? One of the greatest bits of

  115. advice that I was ever given was given to me by a sister in

  116. Christ. And you know who she is?

  117. Her name was Patsy King. You know what Patsy said to me

  118. one day? I was about ready to crack out

  119. and go preach. She said, listen, she was trying

  120. to tell me, beware when you go places that people don't pull

  121. you in and try to draw you into all their stuff.

  122. And then all of a sudden you're getting involved in matters that

  123. are not none of your business. She said to this.

  124. And you know, if you know Patsy, she's just looking.

  125. I love her. She'll look at you right in the

  126. eye and get you told. She'll just get it straight out.

  127. I love it right from the hip. And Patsy said this to me.

  128. She said, Frankie, you go hold your meetings, you preach your

  129. little sermons, you collect your little check and you haul your

  130. freight out of there. Great stuff.

  131. You know, I'm glad for that. But she didn't need to tell me

  132. that because I don't want to do that.

  133. I'm too busy with my own work and my own stuff then to be

  134. involved or force myself into situations that are not none of

  135. my business, like a very famous football coach said one time.

  136. I'm just trying to keep my own house and burn it down to then

  137. to be concerned with other affairs and other things that

  138. are not my business. Remember, judging is an action.

  139. Judgmental is an attitude. That being said, in context,

  140. what is the Lord condemning? He is condemning #1 hypocritical

  141. judgment. Please get that hypocritical

  142. judgment. We'll get to what that actually

  143. is, but that's what he's condemning now.

  144. The Jewish religious elite that made-up the scribes and the

  145. Pharisees and the Sadducees, they were so filled with their

  146. own self righteousness, it led to what?

  147. It led to the unjust condemnation of others.

  148. Hypocritical judgment. Case in point, by the way, the

  149. Pharisee and the public, and I don't have time to go into that.

  150. I'll just make the statement because you all know the story.

  151. When the Pharisee looked down his nose at the at the public

  152. and or the tax collector and when he prayed to God and he

  153. thanked God for all the great things that he was all about, he

  154. was doing often times what we can fall prey to.

  155. And if we're not careful, we can make the awful mistake of doing

  156. this. Please get this because

  157. sometimes we do this, we garnish our own traits and we tarnish

  158. the traits of other people and that's something we need to be

  159. careful about. OK, let's go to the passage and

  160. let's look at the word judge. What does the word judge

  161. actually mean in the passage? The word judge refers to this.

  162. It refers to prejudicial or unfair condemnation.

  163. That's what the Lord was talking about.

  164. I like what JW Mcgarvey said. JW Mcgarvey said it this way.

  165. He said all judging from surmise or from insufficient premises or

  166. from ill will is prohibited. That's what he's talking about,

  167. by the way. What is judging by surmise?

  168. It's assuming something is true without evidence.

  169. It's making a judgment that is not based on evidence.

  170. You know what it also is? It's insufficient premises,

  171. making the determination based on that, too.

  172. How many times has somebody took a little bit of information,

  173. they didn't get down to the bottom of the whole thing, and

  174. then they drew a conclusion about somebody that really

  175. wasn't true and then went out and told everybody about it.

  176. And they drew a conclusion about somebody that was not true

  177. because it was by surmise or insufficient premises.

  178. Seems to me that that wise man Solomon said something about

  179. that too. In Proverbs 18 and 13, it says

  180. he that answers a matter before he hears it is like folly and

  181. shame to him. When we're making judgments,

  182. especially with regards to people, let's do our best to get

  183. to the bottom of it and get all the facts.

  184. But before we make a judgment about somebody that may not be

  185. true, let's not judge by surmise.

  186. All right then Jesus says this in verse 2.

  187. Keep going back to the clicker is not working for with what

  188. judgement you judge, you will be judged, and with what measure

  189. you use, it will be measured to you Again.

  190. Remember, the way we judge is the way God's going to judge us

  191. in a secondary sense too. By the way, if I am unmerciful

  192. in my judgement of others or unfair in my judgement of

  193. others, isn't it true that there's a pretty good chance

  194. when other people judge me, they're going to be unfair too?

  195. It's it's highly possible that's going to happen, or if I judge

  196. in a good way, it's highly possible that people are going

  197. to judge me in the same way. But that's not the context.

  198. That's not the point. The point is the judgement that

  199. really matters is judgement from the Lord.

  200. And that's what Jesus is saying. For with what judgement you

  201. judge, you will be judged, and with what measure you use, it

  202. will be measured back to you again.

  203. OK, remember a couple things Jesus has already said.

  204. He said this. Only the merciful are going to

  205. obtain mercy. Only those that forgive are

  206. going to be forgiven. And James says that judgment is

  207. without mercy to one who shows no mercy.

  208. So here's the point. If we self righteously and

  209. unmercifully judge others, then God's going to hold us to that

  210. very strict standard. OK, got to make a point here.

  211. Got to slip something in. I don't want you to

  212. misunderstand me. This is not saying that if I

  213. wink at the sin of somebody else, God's going to wink at my

  214. sin. That doesn't mean that at all.

  215. You know why? Because God doesn't wink at any

  216. sin. And I can't wink at any sin, and

  217. you can't wink at any sin. We're going to all stand before

  218. the judgment seat of Christ. We all have to give an account

  219. for what we do. We're not talking about winking

  220. at sins. What we're talking about is the

  221. way that we are either merciful or unmerciful.

  222. I don't have time to go into this very far, but Matthew

    Matthew 18 chapter mention

  223. chapter 18, when Jesus gave the parable of the unmerciful

  224. servant, what a powerful passage.

  225. Peter had come to Jesus, and Peter says, Lord, how many times

  226. shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him?

  227. Seven times, Peter said, and Jesus says, no, I say to you not

  228. 7 times, but 70 * 7. In other words, an infinite

  229. amount of time, right? Then Jesus gives a masterful

  230. parable. He said the Kingdom of heaven is

  231. likened unto a king. What do that is is likened unto

  232. a king who's got all these servants.

  233. And one day he calls in the servants and he calls in their

  234. debts. In other words, I'm going to

  235. settle up with my servants. One servant comes to him and he

  236. owes 10,000 talents a huge amount.

  237. The man comes to the master. The master says you can't pay

  238. me. He says you're going to be sold,

  239. your wife's going to be sold and your kids are going to be sold

  240. and all that you have is going to be sold to satisfy the debt.

  241. The servant falls down before the master and he says have

  242. mercy on me and I will pay you all.

  243. The Bible says the master showed compassion for him and he

  244. forgave the entire debt. Then that servant that was

  245. forgiven a tremendous amount had another fellow servant that owed

  246. him a little amount, 100 denarii.

  247. And he goes to that man and he not only tells him pay me, he

  248. grabs him by the throat and he says pay me what you owe me.

  249. I don't have the money. He said.

  250. He falls down before his fellow servant and he says have mercy

  251. on me and I will pay you all. He said Nope, no mercy at all.

  252. And he threw him into prison because he couldn't pay his

  253. debt. The servants got together and

  254. they went to the master and they told him what happened and the

  255. master was angry and the master went to that unforgiving servant

  256. and he went to him and he said this.

  257. I forgave you a huge amount. You should have extended the

  258. same mercy for your fellow servant and extended him that

  259. same forgiveness. Now I'm going to deliver you to

  260. the the new King James says the torturers, wow.

  261. Until your dead is satisfied. The King James says the

  262. tormentors until your dead is satisfied.

  263. Then Jesus sums it up like this. He said, So you're my heavenly

  264. Father also will do to you, if each of you from his heart does

  265. not forgive his brother his trespasses.

  266. I like what Branus said. Branus said this.

  267. I thank him best and most thoughtless, who pardons others

  268. as if he himself sinned every day, yet abstains from sins as

  269. if he pardoned no one. OK, then we get to verse 3.

  270. And by the way, there's so many things I can say.

  271. I got to keep moving. We got a lot to cover.

  272. We got to keep moving. So let's go to verse 3.

  273. Jesus says, and why do you look at the speck that is in your

  274. brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own

  275. eye? I'm going to tell you what

  276. people think this means. Sometimes people think that

  277. Jesus was talking about a tiny thing versus a big thing, a tiny

  278. sin versus a big thing, and that the speck was just some tiny

  279. little insignificant thing. Robertson said it this way.

  280. This word is not referring to a minute piece of dirt, but rather

  281. to a piece of dried wood or other small particle that could

  282. be blown into the eye and cause irritation.

  283. So we're not talking about just a tiny, tiny, tiny little

  284. Chrome. We're talking about something

  285. that still is significant. He's not comparing a tiny sin

  286. with a big sin. Please get this, He's up.

  287. He's comparing a big sin with a gigantic sin.

  288. Got to make a point about big and small because I know, you

  289. know, I believe sin is sin in the eyes of God.

  290. So what makes something a bigger sin or a lesser sin if it's all

  291. sin in the eyes of God? Lying in the eyes of God is just

  292. as so condemning. If we don't make those things

  293. right as murder, what's the difference between what really

  294. we can consider a smaller sin and a bigger sin?

  295. It's not by way of how God looks at it.

  296. It's by way of this because all sin is awful in the eyes of God,

  297. OK, and we all have sin. It's talking about this when you

  298. talk about big or small. Some sins have greater

  299. ramifications than other sins. Some sins have bigger

  300. consequences than other sins. That's what it's talking about.

  301. It's all sin in the eyes of God. And we're going to find out.

  302. By the way, we need to work together and helping each other

  303. rid all that from all of our life.

  304. OK, so first of all, he said about the speck.

  305. Then he says about the word plank.

  306. What does that mean? In the King James, the word

  307. means beam, but the word means plank or square timber, such as

  308. would hold up a house according to Mr. Barnes.

  309. Here's the point. Before we try to hypocritically

  310. propose to extract a smaller yet significant sin in the life of

  311. our brother, clean up your own backyard 1st and rid your own

  312. backyard of those sins that are in your life too.

  313. It is unjust, please get this. And it is unchristian to judge

  314. another harshly while missing the gross errors in our life.

  315. That's the point. It's kind of like this.

  316. It's kind of like a blind ophthalmologist that thinks he's

  317. qualified to remove somebody else's cataracts.

  318. My brother-in-law, Darren, is brilliant and he's blind and

  319. he's brilliant. I would trust him to do all

  320. manner of things. I don't want him working on my

  321. eyes, right? Same principle.

  322. Look at verse 4. Or how can you say to your

  323. brother, let me remove the speck from your eye and look, a plank

  324. is in your eye. JW Mcgarvey said it like this.

  325. He said the Lord's statement must not be construed as

  326. requiring us to get rid of all of our faults before we can

  327. attempt to correct others. He's not saying that for on this

  328. condition none would be qualified for the position of

  329. teachers, but it requires that we shall rid ourselves of a

  330. given fault preparatory to rebuking that fault in another.

  331. Then verse 5. Hypocrite, first remove the

  332. plank from your own eye and then you will see clearly to remove

  333. the speck from your brother's eye.

  334. Verse 4 describes somebody who seemingly ignores the gross sins

  335. in his life but sets out to fix somebody else, right.

  336. I love verse 5 though, because verse 5 gives the process by

  337. which both sinners can be cured because guess what?

  338. Both are sinners and nobody's perfect.

  339. You know what I thought about? I thought about Kylie.

  340. She was a little girl when this happened.

  341. We were having a little Bible study and I had the kids over at

  342. my house and they were little. And we were talking about

  343. sometimes people make mistakes. And from the mouth of babes, the

  344. precious little voice that sat there and said, yeah, because

  345. nobody's perfect. Nobody's perfect.

  346. Verse 5 is a matter of two people recognizing that they're

  347. not perfect. It is the manner in which we can

  348. help each other. But the first person going to

  349. the other person, we're going to talk about how we do that.

  350. We're going to get specific later, but when you look at that

  351. idea and that concept, it is a matter of two people recognizing

  352. that neither one is perfect but has love for the other one and a

  353. love for the Lord to get it right.

  354. We're going to talk about those steps, but first we have to look

  355. at the word hypocrite. Why is this hypocritical

  356. judgement? It is hypocritical judgement

  357. when we do this, when we attempt to cure another of the same

  358. disease of sin that we refuse to cure in our self.

  359. And I got to tell you that can be generally, and that can also

  360. be specifically in a general sense where nobody's perfect and

  361. everybody has sins. It applies, OK, But have you

  362. ever stopped to consider that it also applies very specifically?

  363. Isn't it true that sometimes we are harshest on people who are

  364. guilty of the very same things that we are guilty of?

  365. I've seen it happen. Got one example for you?

  366. Number of years ago, there was one brother who was incredibly

  367. harshly in his attitude, judging another brother.

  368. Was he wrong with judging? The brother said absolutely not,

  369. we have to do that. His attitude was incredibly

  370. harsh and without mercy. You know what else it was?

  371. It was also hypocritical. You know why He slammed this

  372. brother for five years and then I found out five years later he

  373. was guilty of the very same sin. That's hypocritical judgement.

  374. Unmerciful hypocritical judgement.

  375. That's what the Lord's condemning.

  376. OK, then Jesus says this. This is what you're going to do

  377. first. First remove the plank from your

  378. own eye. And when you do that, I love it,

  379. then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your

  380. brother's eye. I've heard Matthew Chapter 7

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  381. beginning in verse one and going all the way through the specks

  382. and the beams and all of that. I've heard people say what that

  383. means is Jesus says don't judge it all.

  384. We're not allowed to judge. Everybody's got specs,

  385. everybody's got beams, everybody's got their own stuff.

  386. So everybody just worry about yourself and leave everybody

  387. alone. That's not what he said.

  388. Don't you see? The Lord is saying, here's

  389. something very powerful. He's saying we have a

  390. responsibility to each other. First, get the plank out of your

  391. eye so you can what? Help your brother get the speck

  392. out of his eye. Have you ever stopped to

  393. consider the tremendous responsibility we have toward

  394. each other when it comes to sins in our life?

  395. A tremendous responsibility. Let's go to Galatians chapter 6.

    Galatians 6 chapter mention

  396. Brethren, if any man is overtaken in any trespass, you

  397. who are spiritual restore such an one in a spirit of

  398. gentleness, considering yourself, lest you also be

  399. tempted. The word trespass is often

  400. translated fault. So if anyone is overtaken in a

  401. fault, guess what? We're not perfect.

  402. We're going to be overtaken from time to time.

  403. Please understand this. The motive is not to crush him,

  404. demoralize him, make him feel rotten, line him out.

  405. No, there's a motive behind the ACT.

  406. What do you got to do? You got to go to the person.

  407. And who are the ones to do it? Those that are spiritual.

  408. What's that mean? Oh, is that the preacher?

  409. Is that the elder? Is that the Deacon?

  410. That the other church leaders? Is that Christians that have

  411. been members of the church for 50 years?

  412. Is it the people that walk around thinking they got it all

  413. figured out? I want to know, because this is

  414. very practical, who are the ones that are spiritual?

  415. Because it's very important. If somebody's overtaken in any

  416. trespass, somebody's spiritual has got to come to the rescue.

  417. Who's that? What does it mean to be

  418. spiritual? Not somebody that's that's

  419. finally reached some higher level of perfection because

  420. nobody's going to do it. It is simply those that are

  421. walking. Please get this according to the

  422. Spirit or the Word of God. Give you some Bible though

  423. Galatians chapter 5 verse 16. I say them, walk in the spirit

    Galatians 5:16

  424. and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

  425. Galatians 5 and 25, if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk

  426. in the Spirit. So who are those that are spirit

  427. in the spirit or those that are spiritual are those that aren't

  428. living in the Spirit? Who are those that are living in

  429. the Spirit, those that are walking in the Spirit?

  430. How do you know if you're living in the spirit and walking in the

  431. Spirit? I said this two months ago in

  432. another sermon. Going to be very brief about it,

  433. but I'm going to hit it again. The only way that you really

  434. know and that everybody else really knows, if you're living

  435. in the Spirit and walking in the Spirit, it's when you are

  436. manifesting in your life the fruit of the Spirit.

  437. The Bible says by you, their fruits, you shall know them.

  438. I'm not going to go into every one of these like I did last the

  439. last time I did. I'm just going to mention them

  440. briefly. But the fruit of the Spirit is

  441. Lovejoy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness,

  442. faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

  443. Against such there is no law that is the fruit of the Spirit.

  444. OK. And as I said before, big

  445. debate, is this referring to my human spirit?

  446. Is it referring to the Holy Spirit?

  447. Does it involve my human spirit? Does it involve the Holy Spirit?

  448. Here it is. It's both.

  449. Thayer says the word fruit means nature.

  450. OK, He said the word spirit here means Spirit of God.

  451. Who's that? That's the Holy Spirit, OK?

  452. These things exist independent of me, and they don't become my

  453. fruit in my life by direct operation of the Holy Spirit or

  454. miraculously, something has to happen.

  455. What has to happen when I make the willful choice by my human

  456. spirit to apply the fruit of the Holy Spirit to my life?

  457. That's by choice. And guess what?

  458. Then all these wonderful qualities, which is the nature

  459. of the Holy Spirit, becomes my fruit.

  460. And when that happens, everybody looking at me can know that I'm

  461. a Christian and I can say, oh, I'm not perfect, but what am I?

  462. I'm spiritual. If you're living according to

  463. God's Word, you are spiritual. On the flip side, though, on the

  464. flip side, if we're not obeying the dictates of the Spirit and

  465. we're following the impulses of the flesh, then the flip side of

  466. that is we are carnal. 1st Corinthians 3 and three, you are

  467. carnal for where there are envy, strife, divisions among you, are

  468. you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

  469. OK, so here's Paul's point here. When somebody falls into sin,

  470. when they fall to the human tendencies, somebody spiritual

  471. has to come to the rescue. To do what?

  472. Please get this restore. What's restore mean restore.

  473. How many times did Jesus in his teaching tell us the importance

  474. of the attitude behind the ACT or the motive behind the ACT?

  475. Jesus would make statements like this, you have heard that it had

  476. been said, and then quote something from the Old

  477. Testament, he says. But I say to you, in other

  478. words, even the motive behind the ACT is in question or judged

  479. by God. What's the motive?

  480. The motive for going to your brother that's overtaken in any

  481. trespass or fault. Somebody that is spiritual,

  482. following the dictates of the Spirit, manifesting those things

  483. in his life by willful choice, has to go to restore that

  484. person. What's the word mean?

  485. The word restore means this comes from a Greek word that

  486. means to mend. It carries the idea of repairing

  487. something that is broken or damaged.

  488. I found in my life people are more inclined to listen to

  489. others when they're being taught and not just being told.

  490. People would rather be taught than told.

  491. When you go to restore, you have to have the mindset and the

  492. spirit of teaching them why that they're in error or wrong,

  493. because you love them, because you want to do what you want to

  494. fix that which is broken. I love what it says in Hebrews

    Hebrews 12 chapter mention

  495. chapter 12. Notice, therefore, strengthen

  496. the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make

  497. straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be

  498. dislocated, but rather healed. OK, he says this.

  499. Somebody's spiritual got to come to the rescue for the purpose of

  500. restoration, but you got to do it with the right way, in the

  501. spirit of gentleness. You've heard me say this.

  502. I got a number of Frank isms. I'm old enough now to have a

  503. bunch of Frank isms, and people usually know what they are.

  504. Preachers get these isms. You know, the things that you

  505. say, like Cullen Smith, he always says been there, done

  506. that, saw the video about the T-shirt.

  507. I mean, it's a Cullen ISM and preachers sometimes have isms

  508. that they say all the time. You've heard me say this, I'm

  509. going to say it again. If you have to remove a family

  510. from somebody's forehead, you don't need a hammer.

  511. Paul says. Do it in the spirit of

  512. gentleness. And by the way, that's one of

  513. the fruits of the Spirit. Then he says this considering

  514. yourself, lest you also be tempted.

  515. You know, there's two things involved here.

  516. Number one, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

  517. Number one, please get this. Don't ever think it could never

  518. happen to you. Don't ever have the mindset it

  519. could never happen to you. That's one way you can be

  520. tempted. Paul said consider yourself lest

  521. you're tempted in that way. Don't do that number two way you

  522. can be tempted. Don't feel in a spirit of

  523. arrogance or conceit or condescension or haughtiness,

  524. because you're the one doing the correcting and you think you're

  525. better than that person. Don't do that either.

  526. Consider yourself lest you also be tempted, and do so in the

  527. spirit of gentleness for the purpose of restoration to fix

  528. that which is broken. Wow.

  529. Then he says this. I love this.

  530. Then he says bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law

  531. of Christ. The word burdens by definition

  532. is heavy loads, hard to carry. And I got to say it is a general

  533. principle as a Christian that we bear one another's burdens in

  534. general. Like I'm going to just give you

  535. some examples like illness, setbacks, catastrophes, loss,

  536. pain, suffering. All of that is true in a general

  537. sense. And Paul deals with that in

  538. First Corinthians 12 where the body of Christ and members

  539. individually, when one suffers, we all suffer.

  540. When one rejoices, we all rejoice.

  541. That is a biblical, biblical principle.

  542. But the context of this bearing one another's burdens is not

  543. talking about that. The context of this word

  544. burdens, which is heavy loads, hard to carry, goes back to

  545. verse one. What is the context of verse

  546. one? If anyone's overtaken in a

  547. trespass or a fault or a sin? So in context, I am responsible

  548. to my brother. After I go to him to restore or

  549. pick him up, I got more to do. I have to bear his burdens,

  550. which are heavy loads that are hard to carry, heavy burdens

  551. that are causing him to sin that's helping him through those

  552. temptations. That's what the passage is

  553. talking about in context. Heavy burdens that are causing

  554. your brother's sin. I'm going to tell you something.

  555. Temptation is a heavy burden and a heavy load, isn't it?

  556. Heavy burden and heavy load. You know what else is really

  557. heavy? Habitual sin.

  558. And many times, many times when we have habitual struggles, they

  559. are the same things that we struggle with over and over and

  560. over again. Everybody's got their own, but

  561. usually it's the habitual things that keep rearing up their head

  562. at us. And just because a person is

  563. restored and forgiven doesn't mean the temptation is gone.

  564. In fact, you know what? Sometimes those temptations come

  565. with such force. They pull us back into those

  566. sinful habits. So what do we got to do?

  567. We go to them and we pick them up.

  568. But then we got to hold them up too.

  569. How do we hold them up? James 5/16 Confess your

  570. trespasses to one another and pray one for another that you

  571. may be healed. The effective fervent prayer of

  572. a righteous man avails much. Obviously, I've referenced this

  573. passage hundreds of times with you, so I'm just going to say

  574. this prayer is first and foremost the effective fervent

  575. prayer of a righteous man avails much.

  576. James 516 is talking about habitual struggles.

  577. That's what he's talking about. If I have a habitual struggle,

  578. I'm going to confess that to my brother and he's going to pray

  579. for me In the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails

  580. much. That is first, that is foremost.

  581. That is true. But please, let's not

  582. underestimate the importance of a secondary benefit or a

  583. practical benefit, which is this.

  584. How about accountability? I've just made myself

  585. accountable to my brother, and he's going to work with me and

  586. help me. And you know why?

  587. Why? That's going to be great.

  588. You know, it takes 21 days to remove a habit, maybe sometimes

  589. even longer, and it takes 21 days, they say, to form a new

  590. habit. If I'm working with my brother

  591. and I know not only helped him up, but now I'm holding him up,

  592. he's accountable to me. I'm praying for him.

  593. The longer he goes, the better chance he has to lose that bad

  594. habit and get a better one. Wow, isn't that great stuff from

  595. the Lord. May I suggest something please?

  596. If somebody confides in you, keep it to yourself.

  597. Nobody has the right or the business to know anything that

  598. your brother confided in you regarding something personal in

  599. their life like that. I'm going to tell you something

  600. right now. I knew of a case.

  601. This is awful. Somebody confided in somebody

  602. and asked that person not to repeat it.

  603. The person said they wouldn't repeat it.

  604. Do you know how long it took for that information to travel

  605. across the United States and back to the the place of origin?

  606. Yeah. How long you took?

  607. Two hours. Shame on them.

  608. Shame on them. I'm so thankful that I have some

  609. people in my life. Then if I confided in them, I

  610. know for a fact they'll take it to their grave.

  611. I've told my pal Don L King things that I know he took to

  612. his grave, that he didn't even tell Patsy because he said to

  613. me, I won't even tell Patsy unless you give me permission.

  614. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

  615. That's what it's about. If somebody confides in you with

  616. the struggle that they're going through, keep it to yourself.

  617. Oh, such damage can be done. What happens when we bear one

  618. another's burdens? Paul said you fulfill the law of

  619. Christ. What is the law of Christ?

  620. Everything that the Jesus describes and that's all that

  621. matters. No specifically when you do that

  622. you fulfill the law of Christ and the law of Christ is the law

  623. of love. John chapter 13 beginning verse

    John 13 chapter mention

  624. 34 A new commandment I give you, that you love one another as I

  625. have loved you, that you also love one another.

  626. By this all will know that you are my disciples, If you have

  627. love one for the other. Galatians 5 and verse 14 For all

  628. the law is fulfilled in one word, even this you shall love

  629. your neighbor as yourself. OK, so in this passage that

  630. we've already talked about burdens here and I'm almost

  631. finished. Burdens here in this passage are

  632. heavy loads that are causing your brother to sin.

  633. OK, what about in verse 5 when the King James Version says that

  634. we all must bear our own burden? Let's look at that passage.

  635. For each one shall bear his own. The new King James says load.

  636. Is there a contradiction? Absolutely not.

  637. What he's saying is here. The word load are things that we

  638. will all give an account for. What it means is this, we need

  639. each other to help each other and to bear one another's

  640. burdens that cause us to sin. You know why?

  641. Because all of us are going to have to stand before God and

  642. bear our own burden. That's why got to work out our

  643. own salvation. By the way, working out your own

  644. salvation doesn't mean I do it my way.

  645. You do it your way, and we all choose our own thing and that's

  646. not what that means. Working out your own salvation

  647. is this. Here's the standard.

  648. It doesn't mean I choose my own standard.

  649. It means here's the standard and I got to work it out on my own.

  650. That's why it's so important. It's so important that young

  651. people understand something vital to their Christianity.

  652. And I say young people because you know why?

  653. Because young people, when they're raised, they brought the

  654. church, they brought the services, they become

  655. Christians. They follow what they've been

  656. taught, they follow what they they've been told, they follow

  657. the example. But you know what?

  658. Something has to happen for every one of those young people

  659. at some point. That faith has to become their

  660. own. That faith has to become their

  661. own faith. Not the faith of their Father,

  662. not the faith of their mother, but their own faith.

  663. That's when it all begins with working out your own salvation

  664. with fear and trembling. But the faith has to be based

  665. upon 1 standard, and that's the word of God, not our own way to

  666. choose. OK?

  667. You've been such a wonderful audience.

  668. So now we come to the three words that sometimes we long to

  669. hear. And that's and in conclusion,

  670. here we go. In conclusion, what did we learn

  671. today? Number one, please get this.

  672. Jesus did not condemn judging of all kinds.

  673. And if somebody would say Jesus said you can't judge, that's not

  674. what he said. What Jesus condemned is

  675. hypocritical, prejudicial, overly harsh judgment and

  676. judgment with the wrong attitude or the wrong motive.

  677. That's what he was condemning. So if that is the case, when we

  678. do make judgments, and we must, the motive behind the ACT has to

  679. be this, to pick up, hold up and build each other up.

  680. That's the point. That's what we got to do.

  681. That's our job. We're in this together.

  682. We never know the hearts and minds of those that are present.

  683. I don't know how it is with you, but maybe you're here today and

  684. you're not a Christian. We never teach from the Word of

  685. God without extending an invitation to somebody that

  686. might be subject to the gospel call.

  687. The steps to become a Christian are very simple.

  688. First of all, you got to hear the Word of God.

  689. Romans 10/17 So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word

  690. of God. After we hear the word of God,

  691. we have a choice. We have to believe with all our

  692. heart. Hebrews 11 and 6.

  693. Without faith it's impossible to please Him, for he who comes to

  694. God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those

  695. who diligently seek him. Then what?

  696. I got to repent of my sins. I got to make the determined

  697. resolve in my life. I'm no longer going to live in

  698. the direction that I was living or the direction I was going.

  699. I want to live for God. I'm going to change my life.

  700. It's called repentance. Acts 17 and 30.

  701. Truly these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands

  702. all men everywhere to repent. And then what?

  703. Then be willing to confess Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

  704. The greatest words you will ever said, say then Philip said, if

  705. you believe with all your heart, you may.

  706. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the

  707. Son of God. Upon taking these steps of

  708. obedience, you're now a fit candidate to go to the point of

  709. salvation, and that's to be baptized for the remission of

  710. sins. Mark 1616.

  711. The Lord said this, he who believes and is baptized will be

  712. saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.

  713. Maybe you've taken these steps of obedience.

  714. Maybe you've drifted. Maybe there are things in your

  715. life that you need to correct. Then just repent of those

  716. things. Confess those things.

  717. We'll pray with you and for you, and God will forgive and

  718. restore. Be one of either class.

  719. Come forward while we stand, while we see.
