  1. Hi there. Welcome back to the podcast

  2. again. This is Wade again.

  3. And like I mentioned before, we are missing a couple lessons in

  4. our First John series from the recordings.

  5. So you'll be hearing in this kind of personal format again

  6. today as we approach the second-half of First John 2.

  7. So First John Chapter 2, we're calling this Part 3 in the

    1 John 2 chapter mention

  8. series and 1st John. And so let's jump in first John

    1 John 2 chapter mention

  9. chapter 2 and verse 18. This section I set aside in this

  10. lesson because it deals with some, some kind of hot topic or

  11. buzzwords, you might say, of the anointing and the Antichrist.

  12. And I think there's a really beautiful picture of what these

  13. mean and their connection here in in the in the Scriptures.

  14. So let's dive here into first John chapter 2 verse 18.

    1 John 2:18

  15. It says there little children, it is the last hour and as you

  16. have you and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming

  17. even now many antichrists have come by which we know that it is

  18. the last hour. So this time is crucial time.

  19. As I understand this phrase, the last hour is, is to denote a

  20. time of high importance. It is high time.

  21. It is it is a kind of a crucial, pivotal time here being the last

  22. hour. And Jesus has just completed a

  23. huge work in crushing the devil and the devil's forces through

  24. his sacrifice and through his his work on earth.

  25. And so we have a huge surge from the protagonist, you might say a

  26. huge surge from the good guys. And whenever there is a special

  27. protagonist positive surge, the opposition logically will

  28. respond with all of its efforts. And, and in this crucial time,

  29. the Antichrist, whatever is contrary to Christ, anti against

  30. Christ. That's what we're talking about

  31. here. So there is something that

  32. counteracts Christ that is working hard against what Christ

  33. has done. Now, there are some things about

  34. the Antichrist that I think we can learn very clearly from

  35. this, from this Scripture. People say a lot of things about

  36. the Antichrist. They start connecting all these

  37. passages and they weave this big web throughout the Bible that

  38. I'm not very confident is valid. And you can listen to people

  39. with a lot of opinions on these things with a lot of details.

  40. I have not been convinced when I've heard or read different

  41. studies that people have communicated about the

  42. Antichrist trying to make a lot of cross scriptural connections.

  43. But what I do want to do, I don't feel the need to convince

  44. you that those are wrong. I want to talk about in this

  45. lesson the things we know for sure about the Antichrist.

  46. No matter what you believe about the Antichrist, there are some

  47. things that we need to know from this section of scriptures that

  48. it is clearly talking about in context.

  49. Number one, I think we need to know it's danger.

  50. We need to know what the risk of this Antichrist is.

  51. Number 2, we need to know how to avoid it, how to avoid the

  52. influence, and how to avoid following after whatever this

  53. Antichrist is. And #3 we need to know how to

  54. not be like it ourselves. And I think this passage will

  55. equip us with enough information to do just that.

  56. So to know the danger of the Antichrist, we should know

  57. John's profile. So as someone might be building

  58. a profile and investigation of somebody, I'm going to start to

  59. build a profile of this Antichrist just from the

  60. Scriptures we're considering here in first John.

  61. So the first thing we read is in that passage, verse 18, he says,

  62. as you've heard that the Antichrist is coming.

  63. Even now many antichrists have come.

  64. OK, so the first thing, if we're building our our Antichrist

  65. profile of this individual or this, let me rephrase, not the

  66. individual, this entity, this Antichrist, there are many who

  67. carry the influence and the work of the Antichrist.

  68. So some people really want to focus on this being one person

  69. and I don't see that in scripture.

  70. I see the message of the Antichrist as an entity.

  71. But here it's saying that there are many who carry this

  72. influence and work. Many antichrists have come.

  73. So that's that's number one goes on to say in verse 19, they went

  74. out from us, but they were not of us.

  75. For if they had been of us, they would not have continued with

  76. us, or they would have continued with us.

  77. But they went out that they might be made manifest or made

  78. evident or clear that none of them were of us.

  79. They weren't with us the whole time or they were they at some

  80. point left to distinguish that their identity was no longer

  81. with Christ. So the second thing is we're

  82. building a profile. We now know that they, this

  83. Antichrist started out as Christian.

  84. OK, so that's, that's John's profile.

  85. There's many who carry this work and this entity or these people

  86. started out who are Christian originally verse 20.

  87. But you have an anointing from the Holy one and you know all

  88. things. OK, so here we have that other

  89. buzzword come up of anointing, and I'm going to make a side by

  90. side profile of the anointing. So we're making a list of what

  91. the Antichrist is and we're making a list now of what the

  92. anointing is and that anointing. He just gave us our first clue

  93. about that anointing. He says, but you have an

  94. anointing from the Holy One. Who is he talking to?

  95. He's already said the little children.

  96. Who are the little children? Those are the Christians, the

  97. people that he is looking after and mentoring with his words.

  98. So all of these people, these Christians had it.

  99. They all had this anointing. OK, now that is supported by

  100. other Scriptures in second John or excuse me, in Second

  101. Corinthians one verse 21, it says now he who establishes us

  102. with you in Christ has anointed us is God.

  103. So he's writing to the Corinthians there.

  104. Paul's writing the letter to the Corinthians, and he has said

  105. they as the Corinthians have been anointed just like Paul had

  106. been anointed by God. So there's an anointing that all

  107. of these Christians have. It's not unique to just a few

  108. select Christians who have some special knowledge.

  109. This is to all Christians. So number one, they all had this

  110. anointing #2 about the anointing is that this anointing

  111. counteracts the influence of Antichrist because in that

  112. verse, So first John 220 said, but against the Antichrist when

  113. he said these people left, that none of them were of us.

  114. Verse 19, verse 20 starts by saying, but you have an

  115. anointing from the Holy One and know all things.

  116. So this anointing is presented as a counteract, counter action

  117. to the Antichrist. And thirdly, on this list of

  118. things we now know about the anointing is it is related

  119. somehow to complete knowledge. He says, but you have an

  120. anointing from the Holy One and you know all things the ESV

  121. says, and you all have knowledge.

  122. So we're going to talk about what that means there and what

  123. it might not mean later on in the study.

  124. But he says there you know all things and or another

  125. translation is and you have all knowledge.

  126. So we'll talk about later. What does that mean?

  127. What is this anointing resulting in complete knowledge.

  128. We'll dive into that later with some more clues.

  129. But the the thing I want to point out here is we now have a

  130. contrast between the Antichrist and the anointing goes on to say

  131. verse 21 of first John 2. I have not written to you

  132. because you do not know the truth, but because you know it

  133. and that no lie is of the truth. Sometimes we can feel like, can

  134. I really know? You know all these high things

  135. of God? Or someone might say, man, this

  136. is just a bunch of religious mumbo jumbo.

  137. No, the writer is writing a very simple letter.

  138. He simplifies. He says don't do that, You know

  139. this, don't over complicate this.

  140. He says I'm not writing to you because you don't know the

  141. truth, but because you already know it.

  142. You already know this stuff and so you're getting the sense that

  143. he's trying to take the eyes of the reader off of some deception

  144. and focus them on something. You guys, you already know this.

  145. He's trying to focus them in on something that they already

  146. know. Verse 22, who is a liar, but he

  147. who denies that Jesus is the Christ.

  148. Christ is is a phrase that means the Messiah.

  149. He is Antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.

  150. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either.

  151. He who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

  152. I love that last line. Jesus.

  153. Jesus claims us and when we claim Jesus and we follow him,

  154. we get Jesus, but we also get God the Father also is part of

  155. that package deal that we have access to?

  156. Wonderful stuff. OK, so from that section of

  157. verses we now have another thing to add to our list of the

  158. profile of the Antichrist. We know first of all from

  159. earlier there are many who carry the influence and work of

  160. Antichrist #2 these people started out Christian, they went

  161. out from them. Now thirdly on this list, the

  162. Antichrist denies the Son. OK, so denies the Son.

  163. We get some more clarity about that in first John 4.

  164. So skipping to later in the letter it says this, beloved, do

  165. not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they

  166. are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the

  167. world. By this you know the Spirit of

  168. God, every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in

  169. the flesh is of God and every spirit that does not confess

  170. that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.

  171. Here it is and this is the spirit of the Antichrist which

  172. you have heard was coming and is now already in the world.

  173. So that thing we added to list that the Antichrist or

  174. Antichrist denies the sun and more specifically later in the

  175. letter what that means the Antichrist denies the sun by

  176. denying that the sun came in the flesh.

  177. OK, so how do we know what lines up with God?

  178. If if this Antichrist is teaching something that doesn't

  179. line up with God, how do we know?

  180. Well it says to test the spirits in chapter 4 and it's all about

  181. what lines up with his word. He says by this you know the

  182. Spirit of God and he goes on to re teach what the Bible already

  183. says. So don't be afraid that you need

  184. to have some special knowledge. We can know what lines up with

  185. God's word based on what his word teaches.

  186. OK, so we've we've got to check to see if what people say is

  187. true and we're going to talk about that testing the spirits

  188. in a later lesson in this letter.

  189. But we know that the sun that the the Antichrist denies that

  190. the sun came the flesh contrary to what Scripture teaches.

  191. OK, verse 24. Therefore let that abide in you

  192. what you heard from the beginning.

  193. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you

  194. also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

  195. So back up. Let's start again that verse.

  196. Therefore let that abide. The phrase let it is, is talking

  197. about a surrender. It's a submission.

  198. Let, let this thing happen. There is a tendency when things

  199. get hard to look for other solutions, other answers that

  200. people may provide. When you struggle with your

  201. faith, you might want to look around and and when things

  202. challenge you, you might want to say, man, there must be an

  203. answer somewhere else. But part of the message of this

  204. letter is to not get too quick to look elsewhere for answers,

  205. sometimes in the middle of a trial or a challenge or someone

  206. challenging their faith like we're reading about in this

  207. letter. He says let that abide in you

  208. that you heard from the beginning.

  209. Let let it sink in and meditate on the things that you've

  210. already learned. These early Christians were

  211. facing false teachers, people who are trying to deceive them,

  212. as we're later going to learn, as we today face difficulties,

  213. confusions, questions in our faith.

  214. John's message is to listen what the Master has told you this

  215. whole time. When we have doubts, it's common

  216. to want to throw out everything we already know because we need

  217. to reboot, we need to reset. That's how it works.

  218. When you are challenged in something, it can make you

  219. question everything you think, and sometimes that's a good

  220. thing because you need to reevaluate, but other times it

  221. can be harmful because you can throw out things that you are

  222. established and that are already true.

  223. So part of John's comfort is to establish and stay and settle in

  224. the things that you already know.

  225. Don't. Don't let these false teachers

  226. pull you into thinking everything you think about your

  227. faith is wrong or it's false because they are providing a

  228. challenge. Don't let them do that to you.

  229. He says stay with what you've learned the whole time.

  230. Don't be disillusioned and wonder May my whole foundation

  231. is off because that happens with all with all of us.

  232. I think we run into challenges with our faith and it can feel

  233. at times like man, I'm questioning this and makes me

  234. question everything. Go back to what you know for

  235. sure. Focus on the truths that you are

  236. confident in from God's Word and you can deal through.

  237. Work with those things you have questions about, but don't throw

  238. out the baby with the bathwater. Don't throw away all the things

  239. that you have made progress in and have learned and have become

  240. established in. It's usually or often I might

  241. say it's often an issue of working through a current

  242. circumstance and turn to the source of the truth for those

  243. specific questions we have first Peter 119 has some some

  244. comforting advice in this. It says there.

  245. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do

  246. well to heat as a light that shines in a dark place, wherever

  247. your dark place is, until the day dawns and the morning star

  248. rises in your hearts. Don't give up on truth.

  249. Let truth have its way, and though those things might come

  250. up to detract from your faith and challenge you in your faith,

  251. there's going to be a light that dawns.

  252. The sun is going to come up on the darkness, and if you're

  253. holding on to what's true even in the darkness, you'll make it

  254. through the night, and that light will rise on your faith

  255. and hope will come alive like it never has before.

  256. Don't forget the things you already know.

  257. That's what John is telling them.

  258. As a side note, as he's just told us, let that abide in you

  259. that you heard from the beginning.

  260. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you

  261. will abide in the in the Son and in the Father.

  262. A side note of that. May we learn to abide in the

  263. peace of the Son and the Father. Relax and enjoy.

  264. Sometimes we can make it harder for so much harder than it

  265. really is. Now, I'm not saying relax and

  266. and do whatever you want. I'm saying maybe we as

  267. Christians sometimes need to learn to to enjoy and relax and

  268. to take peace. I was wisely told by another

  269. teacher when I started teaching high school, that teacher told

  270. me be comfortable because if you are come because if you are

  271. uncomfortable, your students will be uncomfortable too.

  272. Spiritually speaking, if we want to help others feel the joy and

  273. the love in Christ and and take away some of the negative

  274. narratives we can acquire as Christians or or members of the

  275. church, we have to start here. We have to start with the

  276. attributes that make us different, the peace that

  277. surpasses understanding, with the joy that fills our hearts.

  278. Sometimes we need to remember to abide in the peace and the joy

  279. of the Father. Maybe sometimes we don't make

  280. others feel and enjoy peace and joy.

  281. You know, people were trying to actively convert to the faith.

  282. Maybe sometimes we don't make them feel that or learn that

  283. peace is because we don't feel it ourselves.

  284. It can feel like we are the only victim in a crime of a living

  285. anxious, angry, lacking peace, lacking hope, not living the

  286. abiding joy and peace. It can feel sometimes like we

  287. are the only victim in that if we live a life.

  288. That is characterized by those things, but but others are

  289. affected because we are robbing others of an example that would

  290. show them Christ and what it means to walk in the light and

  291. the warmth of His light. It's not a victimless crime when

  292. we neglect abiding in the peace of the Son and the Father.

  293. So sometimes we need to learn to smile, relax a little bit, enjoy

  294. our life. So back to the context.

  295. So you just said let that abide in you, what you heard from the

  296. beginning. So let's remember he's talking

  297. about an anointing that will counteract the spirit of the

  298. Antichrist. And he's and he, he's using this

  299. statement to use the anointing to counteract the Antichrist in

  300. the way that you are letting things abide in you that you've

  301. heard this whole time. That is the counteracting

  302. influence. So we learned from Romans 10/17

  303. that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

  304. So as we build our definition of this anointing, it's related to

  305. complete knowledge. But he just said that he says

  306. let that abide in you what you heard from the beginning.

  307. So the things that that is filling them with knowledge is

  308. things that they have been hearing.

  309. So complete knowledge, whatever it is, has to come from hearing

  310. verse 25. And this is the promise that He

  311. has promised us eternal life. These things I've written to you

  312. concerning those who try to deceive you.

  313. So as we build the the profile of the Antichrist, we have

  314. another thing to add to the list.

  315. The Antichrist lives in others through deception.

  316. So he's writing to us concerning those who are trying to deceive

  317. us. So that's how the Antichrist

  318. works. The Antichrist lives through

  319. deception. Verse 27.

  320. But as the same anointing teaches you concerning all

  321. things, there it is again the contrast between the Antichrist

  322. and the anointing verse 27 But as the same anointing teaches

  323. you concerning all things and is true and is not a lie, and just

  324. as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

  325. So this anointing, as we go back to our definition of the

  326. anointing, it teaches complete knowledge because he says there

  327. this anointing teaches you concerning all things.

  328. So this anointing teaches complete knowledge.

  329. Now here's where maybe we can start to ask some questions.

  330. Is this knowing all things, a miraculous complete knowledge?

  331. Is it getting knowledge from God that you have an anointing and

  332. so you have some miraculous ability, a miracle ability to

  333. have knowledge of everything? Well, we have to remember a

  334. couple things from other scriptures.

  335. Sometimes it helps to rule out other things.

  336. To clarify, in First Corinthians chapter 12 we learned about how

    1 Corinthians 12 chapter mention

  337. miracles worked and the and what we learned from First

  338. Corinthians 12 is that only some had this.

  339. Not everyone had this miraculous knowledge.

  340. So there was bits and pieces of a group of people who had

  341. miraculous knowledge. So if we go back to where we

  342. started this conversation, we learned that every Christian has

  343. this anointing. So the kind of miraculous

  344. knowledge of God's word that is taught in First Corinthians 12

  345. says that only some people have it.

  346. So now we we know that these two things aren't lining up.

  347. Not everybody had miraculous knowledge.

  348. Some people had gifts in this area.

  349. Some people had gifts in another, and not everybody had

  350. miraculous knowledge of God's Word.

  351. So that's First off. In First Corinthians 12:00 we,

  352. we learned that in First Corinthians 14, we learned that

  353. only part of God's Word was revealed to the people who did

  354. even have miraculous knowledge. So let's say you know you are

  355. you are person #1 and that person #1 did have some

  356. miraculous knowledge from the power of the Holy Spirit.

  357. They knew things about Scripture miraculously.

  358. Well. First Corinthians 14 teaches us

  359. that that person didn't have complete knowledge of God's

  360. Word. They didn't know it all.

  361. They had a piece of it miraculously.

  362. Now they can learn more of God's Word by study, by asking

  363. questions, by being taught, by reading the letters from the

  364. apostles. But they didn't miraculously

  365. just have all the scripture knowledge of God's Word in their

  366. head. So they were told to one by one

  367. share their prophecy. They were told to take turns

  368. sharing what God had given them to teach.

  369. OK, so when we consider this this anointing, it now does not

  370. fit into the criteria of miraculous complete knowledge.

  371. This anointing does not mean that some people or all these

  372. Christians had complete knowledge of God's word by

  373. miracle, right? Because that's been disproved by

  374. First Corinthians 12 and chapter 14.

  375. OK, so the next question does this anointing that makes us

  376. know all things is that the Holy Spirit giving us direct

  377. knowledge, just popping information straight in our head

  378. from the Holy Spirit? Well, that is not a pattern that

  379. is given in Scripture. The Holy Spirit would then that

  380. would be a hotline of God revealing his word.

  381. Like I just get to, you know, I get to tell people that God told

  382. me this. God told me that.

  383. And we all know that there have been people who have said things

  384. that God told me this and it was a complete lie.

  385. So if we can just all say, you know, God told me this, that's a

  386. hotline for God's Word. And that is not a pattern in

  387. Scripture. So the Holy Spirit giving direct

  388. knowledge is is not really the pattern.

  389. Let's look at Romans 10. Romans 10 tells us the pattern

  390. in verse 14. It says, how then shall they

  391. call on him and whom they have not believed?

  392. And how shall they believe in him on whom they have not heard?

  393. He says they need to hear it first.

  394. And how shall they hear without a preacher?

  395. They need to have somebody to teach them.

  396. Verse 15 and how shall they preach unless they are sent?

  397. Goes on to say verse 16, But they have not all obeyed the

  398. gospel for Isaiah says Lord, who hasn't believed our report?

  399. Who's believed our teaching? Verse 17.

  400. So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

  401. So if we're wondering, you know, is this anointing the Holy

  402. Spirit just popping knowledge in people's head.

  403. That's not really the pattern for how knowledge is passed on

  404. in Scripture. So I think here's where we can

  405. build that anointing profile a little bit.

  406. Nor anointing is where the Holy Spirit teaches us complete

  407. knowledge that sets us apart. So in light of the Gnostics

  408. believed often times that they had some special knowledge.

  409. Now, if these people literally knew all things, if these

  410. Christians he's writing to literally knew all things, like

  411. this was a miraculous knowledge, why would John even be writing

  412. to them? Because they already had

  413. miraculous knowledge. I don't think that's the case.

  414. I think that's why John is writing the letter to them,

  415. because they don't have complete miraculous knowledge.

  416. Now in light of this special knowledge, you know, because

  417. getting it from the Holy Spirit through some mystical things

  418. sounds, sounds kind of special. Would it be cooler or more

  419. exciting if I had some miraculous special knowledge as

  420. opposed to something that I've learned from God's Word or by

  421. somebody teaching me plainly from scripture?

  422. Would it be cooler or more exciting if I had some

  423. miraculous knowledge? If God wants to anoint me

  424. through reasonable means like His Word, shame on me.

  425. If I look down on that. If I think that God's way to

  426. communicate and annoyed me with with His Word by his Holy Spirit

  427. is from people teaching me his word or me reading his word, If

  428. I look down on that, shame on me.

  429. If God chooses to work in my life, that's his.

  430. That's his decision. And may I not think, oh, it

  431. would be better if I got taught this way.

  432. You know, if I got some poof special knowledge sitting in my

  433. living room without doing any reading or just popped into my

  434. head, I shouldn't look at that like that's any better than the

  435. way God taught me, the way God teaches me through His word.

  436. Now I have to ask myself, if I do think it'd be cooler to get

  437. some special miraculous knowledge from God directly, why

  438. would it be cooler? I would argue that it's because

  439. of selfish desire, because when it would be rare, right, It

  440. would be rare. It would be unheard of if you

  441. got some special knowledge from God.

  442. Rarity is all based on I have something and other people

  443. don't. That that's what makes fancy

  444. things so important to people is because not everybody has it.

  445. Not everybody drives a Lamborghini.

  446. If everybody drove a Lamborghini, it would not be

  447. that cool. But because they're rare, man,

  448. it's cool. And so it's, it's for it's can

  449. be a selfish desire to be above someone else.

  450. And so may I not look at it like, oh, I didn't get some

  451. miraculous knowledge. That's not as good as if, you

  452. know, I just got some knowledge from reading God's word.

  453. May I not look down on God's Word that way, because to prefer

  454. something else than what everybody else gets would be

  455. kind of a selfish desire. Now, maybe it would make me feel

  456. special, right? If God gave me miraculous

  457. knowledge, I might feel special. He gave that to me.

  458. If I can't read the scripture of all God did for me and feel

  459. special. If I can't read scripture and

  460. get that, it's a focus issue and I would soon dull to a special

  461. message, right? If God popped some special

  462. message miraculously in my head, I would get dull to that sooner

  463. or later. That wouldn't be cool anymore.

  464. I would need something else to make me feel quote UN quote

  465. special. I can feel special by reading

  466. God's word, by studying and learning what He did for me.

  467. And man, you can't be more special than having someone

  468. sacrifice their child for you. So let's sum up the anointing,

  469. the Gnostic view. The Gnostics did have a view of

  470. anointing like they had some special knowledge and the

  471. anointing is to work against. And so in light of that, that

  472. that Gnostic view, there is the true Christian anointing which

  473. is from the Holy Spirit. Now the anti Christian

  474. principles were against the anointing and these Gnostics

  475. said they had a higher knowledge, they had something

  476. special from God that other people didn't have access to.

  477. Well John's response to this anti Christian idea and this

  478. higher knowledge quote UN quote that the Gnostics had.

  479. John's response in my own words is these guys say they had this

  480. special knowledge, don't listen to them.

  481. You all have all you need. That's what I believe the

  482. anointing is. He's saying you have everything

  483. you need. You are being taught by the Holy

  484. Spirit himself now. It doesn't have to be mystical.

  485. However, the Holy Spirit was teaching them during this time.

  486. However, the Holy Spirit is teaching us today.

  487. We are anointed by the Holy Spirit.

  488. Now maybe we haven't talked about the word anointing enough.

  489. So I'm going to do an extended cut on anointing for a second.

  490. And if if that's a little too you don't want to go into that

  491. rabbit hole, that's fine. Maybe Fast forward a few

  492. minutes, but looking at Scripture anointing in

  493. Scripture, where do we read this?

  494. Well, four times in Scripture it refers to how God anointed Jesus

  495. with the Holy Spirit and Luke 4, Acts 4, Acts 10 and Hebrews one,

  496. we learned about how the Holy Spirit anointed Jesus.

  497. OK. And in Luke 4 verse 18, it says

    Luke 4:18

  498. the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to

  499. preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the

  500. broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and

  501. recovery of sight to the blind. So that is a piece of how the

  502. anointing happens there. I'm not going to go through and

  503. read all those. That was just one in that list

  504. of the Holy Spirit anointing Jesus.

  505. But other uses of anointing in Scripture.

  506. We read about anointing priests and kings in the Old Testament

  507. with oil, for example, in Second Samuel 1 verse 16 and Exodus 30

    2 Samuel 1:16 Exodus 30:30

  508. verse 30. It was a process of setting them

  509. apart. So anointing in the Old

  510. Testament set people apart as different.

  511. We're we are marking them as something special and different

  512. kings and priests right in in Exodus 30, verse 30, it says

    Exodus 30:30

  513. anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so that they may

  514. serve me as priests. And he goes on to say, you know,

  515. if if anybody else don't make any other thing like this, don't

  516. replicate this, If anyone does something similar to this and

  517. tries to kind of make their own anointing, he says let them be

  518. cut off from the people. So this anointing was serious

  519. because it has an important role.

  520. And that should make us feel special because we consider that

  521. we are anointed by the Holy Spirit.

  522. What an honor. We are anointed with great

  523. intention, with great authority, and great individual

  524. acknowledgement of our role and value in God's service.

  525. OK, now let's talk about some more reasons.

  526. And the anointing was used. It was used in medicine.

  527. People were anointed with oil in Luke chapter 10 verse 34.

    Luke 10:34

  528. So you would take a, an oil, you would rub it on someone for, for

  529. medical uses. You know, you take the extract

  530. of the plant. We use essential oils today for

  531. medical things. You rub peppermint on the bottom

  532. of a baby's feet and they start to feel better.

  533. There's all kinds of things we do with oil to anoint and, and

  534. to rub on. It's for healing and medicine

  535. and Jesus uses and the word anointing, the Bible uses for

  536. Jesus's anointing of the blind man's eyes with spittle as he

  537. mixed it with with dirt in John Chapter 9 verse 6.

    John 9:6

  538. So kind of a way to summarize the word anointing.

  539. It's to smear something on. Jesus smeared the spittle on the

  540. eyes of the blind man. It was oil smeared on in

  541. medicine. It was smeared on in the act of

  542. anointing the kings and the priests in the Old Testament.

  543. We are healed by the anointing of God's word just like they

  544. were in medicine with the anointing of oil.

  545. We are set apart as Christians and identified as workers for

  546. God and we are Kingdom of priests today.

  547. We are anointed and set apart by God's Word.

  548. So as I summarize the anointing, I'm going to put it this way.

  549. We are set apart or anointed by a supernatural teacher and

  550. supernatural teachings. The ultimate teacher is the Holy

  551. Spirit who inspired the words of scripture that were from the

  552. beginning. These words give us what we need

  553. to overcome the anti Christian ideas that would hold us back.

  554. So there's the contrast between the Antichrist and the

  555. anointing. OK, hopefully that wasn't too

  556. hard to communicate over over just audio.

  557. I know it maybe help a little bit to have some visuals in

  558. front like a PowerPoint, but hopefully that was OK.

  559. So the Antichrist, let's summarize the Antichrist now in

  560. the profile of the Antichrist. The Antichrist started out

  561. Christian denies that the sun came in the flesh, undermining

  562. God's word by saying they had some higher knowledge of, of

  563. Scripture. They had their own quote UN

  564. quote anointing from the the Antichrist that we know that we

  565. have as Christians, a true anointing.

  566. So the Antichrist says there are there are many, though there are

  567. many who carry the influence and work of the Antichrist and it

  568. lives in others through deception.

  569. OK, So that's kind of the profile of the Antichrist that

  570. it's a danger. That's how we need to avoid it.

  571. We need to avoid its influence and I'm not going to go past

  572. that, the context of first Sean to talk about these things.

  573. But to end this study in a positive note, I want to go back

  574. to verse 25 because verse 25 said something super

  575. encouraging, he said, and this is the promise that he has

  576. promised us eternal life. God has promises for us that

  577. will change our life, you know, change our perspective on the

  578. world we're living in and how we see it.

  579. He says he's promised us eternal life.

  580. The the concept of eternity is hard to wrap my mind around.

  581. I love the analogy that I was told from a young age that stuck

  582. with me and and I was taught that it that eternity is like if

  583. you took a a bird and that bird. Picked up a grain of sand on the

  584. beach, and that bird proceeded to fly the miles and miles and

  585. miles and thousands of miles all the way to the moon.

  586. And that bird dropped off that grain of sand at the moon, and

  587. it proceeded to make the long journey, miles and miles and

  588. miles back, flying all the way back to Earth, where it picked

  589. up another grain of sand way back to the moon, dropped it

  590. off, came all the way back, picked up a third grain of sand,

  591. flew all the way back to the moon.

  592. Eternity. Is as if that bird flew all the

  593. way to the moon. And dropped.

  594. Off the entire planet Earth on the moon transferred the.

  595. Entire. Earth over to the moon.

  596. That is just the beginning. Of eternity Think.

  597. About how long? How many?

  598. Years it would take to to just transfer a handful of sand from

  599. from a local beach here in California, just a handful of

  600. sand would take, I'd have to imagine, thousands of years.

  601. Much. Less the entire.

  602. Coastline of California, much less.

  603. All of the the landlocked states of the United States, much less

  604. the entire depths of the ocean, all those miles and years of

  605. flying back and forth that is just.

  606. The beginning of. Eternity.

  607. The Bible. Says God has put.

  608. Eternity in our hearts. We have a concept, but we can't

  609. wrap our minds around it and. He has promised us eternal.

  610. Life. A life that will never end.

  611. A life that you you consider that it's unfathomable.

  612. And yet, that's just the beginning.

  613. Of what's coming after this. Brief vapor of life that we are

  614. living in He. Says he's promised us eternal.

  615. Life. Now let's focus on that word.

  616. Life you. Know we don't really truly.

  617. Experience true life here on earth for the most part when.

  618. You read the Bible, true. Life is free from death, and

  619. every single thing we've ever been through in this earthly

  620. life had. Kind of a background of.

  621. Death. You might have wonderful

  622. moments. In your life.

  623. But there is. Something hanging over you of.

  624. Death in the good times, you know that they're not always

  625. going to last. In the smiles.

  626. There are there is sorrow for some in every circumstance in

  627. life you may. Have had something good.

  628. Happening, but there were also things around that event that

  629. were not so good. Around the birth of my.

  630. First child, one of the best days of my life.

  631. It was came shortly after my father-in-law had had almost

  632. died. Had a had a life.

  633. Altering. Health crisis.

  634. And it even in the good time, there was something so severe

  635. and tragic and scary that there was, it was a big, it was a big

  636. time. Life is full of.

  637. Moments that are good and around it there are still things that

  638. are the stain, the sting of sin in life and the.

  639. The pains that come. Along with even the good things

  640. in life, I almost. Think about it like a.

  641. Like a, Like a. Sock when you if you.

  642. Ever, ever been hiking and walk through through the brush, you

  643. come out the other side and you have all of these, these burrs

  644. in your sock or, or foxtails in your sock and they, if you sit

  645. down and take time to pick them all out, your sock was full of

  646. hundreds and it took so long to remove all those thistles and

  647. burrs. I think sometimes life is.

  648. Like that, if you really sat down and looked at your life,

  649. you'd be able to say, well, I picked that one out.

  650. There is a there's a problem there and there's a problem

  651. there. There's a problem there even

  652. though there's good things happening.

  653. You could pick out all of these things in the sock of your life.

  654. Even in the good times. And so I I said all that to say

  655. this we don't truly know what true life is every.

  656. Bit of life we've ever. Experienced has had some death

  657. in it. Because of the curse of.

  658. Sin. I can't imagine a life.

  659. Where there's no pain. Where you are at a.

  660. At a birthday party and the grandparents are there and you

  661. don't have to have that feeling in the back of your mind of this

  662. is special, wonderful moments, but but those grandparents

  663. aren't always going to be there. Sometimes in the positive and.

  664. The happy there are sadnesses. We don't know what true.

  665. Life is really like. But there's going to come a day.

  666. Where there will be true life, and you and I have experienced

  667. beautiful pieces of life that are snippets and excerpts and

  668. just a taste of the good that is to come.

  669. Because everything in. Heaven and in life, in life, in

  670. true life in heaven, is going to be free from the burdens and the

  671. pains that detracted from life's pure joys.

  672. So. It says this is the.

  673. Promise that He has promised us eternal life.

  674. It's going to be forever and it's going to be something

  675. that's better and beyond anything that we have ever

  676. experienced in this life. Combining all of the good

  677. memories and separating them from anything negative.

  678. It's going to be good. I can't quite fathom it, but

  679. it's going to be good. And so to conclude this.

  680. Study, May we hold on to God's word and may we follow Him

  681. closely and walk in the light and avoid the influence of anti

  682. Christian ideas. And remember that we are

  683. anointed by the Holy Spirit that teaches us truth, that we don't

  684. have to fear what others would teach.

  685. We don't have to fear Gnostic teachings or any other teachings

  686. that would detract from the message of Christ, but the we

  687. are taught from God himself and we can believe and have faith in

  688. him. Finishing up in verse 28 and now

  689. little children first John 228 abide in him that when he

  690. appears we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him in

  691. his coming. If you.

  692. Know that he is righteous. You know that everyone who

  693. practices righteousness is born of Him.
