  1. We're continuing our series on the Day the Kingdom Came, and

  2. this morning's sermon is entitled.

  3. Actually, it's Peter's Sermon Part 2.

  4. But it's the story of Jesus and how fitting and appropriate it

  5. is that we just sang that song, Victory in Jesus, because it's

  6. all about what Jesus did. And in Peter's masterful sermon,

  7. divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit of God, preached another

  8. masterpiece. In this section of that sermon

  9. as an introductory text, I direct your attention to Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  10. chapter 2, beginning in verse 22.

  11. Peter says men of Israel hear these words.

  12. Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested by God to you by

  13. miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did through him in

  14. your midst, as you yourselves also know him, being delivered

  15. by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have

  16. taken by lawless hands, have crucified and put to death whom

  17. God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was

  18. not possible that he should be held by it.

  19. As an introduction, I'm going to be very brief summarizing what

  20. we've studied. Jesus told the apostles to wait

  21. in Jerusalem till they got endued with power from on high.

  22. That's Acts 1. Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  23. Power came in the form of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

  24. It came to 12 men, it came to 12 apostles and it caused them to

  25. be able to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

  26. We studied in great detail last time.

  27. These tongues were not gibberish.

  28. It was not ecstatic Babble. It was actually normative

  29. languages. You remember what they said?

  30. What meaneth this? As the King James says, these

  31. men are from Galilee and yet we hear them speak in our their own

  32. language, the wonderful works of God.

  33. What else? In our own language that we were

  34. born and that word means dialects.

  35. So they understood. But when they did that, there

  36. was an interesting response. Their reaction was they were

  37. perplexed as what could this mean?

  38. And others said, oh, wait a minute, these guys are drunk.

  39. And then Peter's response is twofold. 1 He appeals to their

  40. logic. And #2 he appeals to prophecy

  41. first. He appeals to logic.

  42. He said these guys aren't drunk like you say they are.

  43. It's only 9:00 in the morning, the third hour of the day.

  44. And as we noticed, it's even customary for even in Scripture

  45. for people to understand that those that get drunk get drunk

  46. in the night. So it appeals to their logic.

  47. And that kind of got their attention.

  48. But then he says what you're seeing is the words of the

  49. fulfillment of the prophet Joel. And that was last time.

  50. That was our last sermon. Now we come to this one.

  51. Beginning in verse 22, Peter now comes to the real theme of the

  52. message, and that is the story of Jesus Christ.

  53. It is the greatest story ever told.

  54. It is the story about Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah that the

  55. Jews rejected. And the first thing that Peter

  56. calls him is Jesus of Nazareth. You know, we understand because

  57. we are believers in God. We are believers in Jesus

  58. Christ, and we know all about what the Scripture says

  59. regarding who Jesus is. He's our Lord, He's our savior,

  60. He's our mediator, He's our Redeemer.

  61. He's our propitiation, fancy word meaning he paid our fine.

  62. He's all that stuff. He's our king and we serve him.

  63. We know that. So why the words Jesus of

  64. Nazareth? He's so much more than that.

  65. Interestingly, the phrase Jesus of Nazareth, he's called a

  66. Nazarene because he was from Nazareth.

  67. Do you remember? Even in the Garden of

  68. Gethsemane, Jesus prays to his Father.

  69. Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me.

  70. Not my will, but your will be done.

  71. Then with a determined resolve, he goes forward.

  72. And here is this band of men. Here's these Roman soldiers.

  73. Scholars tell us about 600 of them along with the temple

  74. police and the mob. Right.

  75. And out in front is the awful betrayer, that vile betrayer,

  76. Judas. Jesus goes forward and Jesus

  77. says first, who you're looking for?

  78. I'm not getting into the story. We all know the story.

  79. Just saying one thing. Who you looking for?

  80. What did they say? We are looking for Jesus of

  81. Nazareth. The reason they phrased it as

  82. such is they didn't recognize Jesus from whom we recognize who

  83. Jesus is. They were looking for a Galilean

  84. Carpenter and his friends and they called him Jesus of

  85. Nazareth because that's where he was from.

  86. How about on the superscription? What about the title above the

  87. head of Jesus that Pilate wrote? And by the way, it was written

  88. in the three ancient languages of the time, Hebrew, Greek and

  89. and Latin. You know why?

  90. So everybody that walked by would look up and not only see

  91. it, but they could read it and they could understand it.

  92. Three ancient languages. What were the words?

  93. Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross, and the writing

  94. was Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.

  95. But you know that name will be declared as a source of power

  96. and a source of authority from this point forward all the way

  97. through history and even now. Here's the sermon.

  98. Men of Israel hear these words, Jesus of Nazareth.

  99. And then he says, a man attested by God to you by miracles,

  100. wonders and signs which God did through him in your midst, as

  101. you yourselves also know. You know what's amazing Here

  102. Peter begins to speak undeniable facts about Jesus.

  103. You know one scholar put it this way, undeniable facts about the

  104. hated Nazarene. But you know what?

  105. These are the same facts that are going to cause some about

  106. 3000 to be cut to the heart. You know, I got to thinking

  107. about that. The Bible is filled with

  108. undeniable facts about Jesus. And did you know that because I

  109. believe in it and I do with all my heart and I am I, I am

  110. absolutely certain I'm speaking to an audience of people that

  111. believe it like I do. You believe in Jesus, The

  112. undeniable facts about Jesus, right?

  113. We get it. But did you know that because we

  114. believe it doesn't make it true. If somebody doesn't believe it,

  115. it doesn't make it not true. He's presenting undeniable

  116. facts. What happened?

  117. Some were cut to the heart and said later on, we're going to

  118. get to in the next sermon, men and brethren, what shall we do?

  119. And then the solution came, right?

  120. But there was 3000 that did that.

  121. And we look at that and say, man, 3000 souls, what an amazing

  122. sermon. What an amazing gospel meeting.

  123. I say this, scholars tell us there was over maybe a million

  124. people there that day. So only 3000, OK, undeniable

  125. facts 3000 were cut to the heart.

  126. The majority was not. But it didn't change the truth.

  127. It didn't change the truth. JW Mcgarvey says this, though in

  128. one breath they're reminded of the wondrous miracles and signs

  129. that Jesus wrought among them. They are charged with knowing

  130. this is true. In other words, he says, man of

  131. Israel hear these words about Jesus of Nazareth, all the

  132. things it was facts and you know that it's true.

  133. You know that it is. And then he continues on in the

  134. next verse, his statement here, him being delivered by the

  135. determined purpose and foreknowledge of God.

  136. I got to stop and make a little point here.

  137. OK, When the Jews delivered Jesus to the Romans to be

  138. crucified, it was by the determined purpose and

  139. foreknowledge of God. I'm going to get to the Jews

  140. role in just a moment, but I want to make a point because I

  141. was driving down the road and I was listening on the radio.

  142. Sometimes I TuneIn this stuff and there was a big debate going

  143. back and forth on who was responsible for crucifying Jesus

  144. and somebody says, well, the Jews crucified Jesus and this

  145. guy got on there. He called in, he was infuriated.

  146. He was saying why blame it on the Jews?

  147. I'm tired of people blaming it on the Jews.

  148. It was the Romans that crucified Jesus.

  149. Hold that thought. I'm going to make my point again

  150. though. When the Jews delivered Jesus to

  151. the Romans, it was by the determined purpose and

  152. foreknowledge of God. It's according to the definite

  153. plan that was orchestrated by God himself from the foundation

  154. of the world, that Jesus would be God's Lamb.

  155. John 316. We know that passage.

  156. Everybody knows that passage. Sporting events hold up that

  157. passage. For God so loved the world that

  158. he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him

  159. should not perish, but have everlasting life.

  160. So it was all by the determined purpose and for knowledge of

  161. God. OK, let's get to the next

  162. statement. I'm going to prove my point.

  163. You have taken by lawless hands, have crucified and put to death.

  164. OK, who's you? Who's he talking to earlier on?

  165. It says in Jerusalem there that day, on the day of Pentecost,

  166. there were Jews, devout men gathered there out of every

  167. nation under heaven. So who's the you?

  168. The you was the Jews. Little side point here.

  169. Why did the Jews take Jesus to Pilate?

  170. You might remember from a previous lesson, they did so

  171. because they had to the right of the sword belonged only to Rome.

  172. So the only way that you can lawfully execute somebody was to

  173. go to Rome. They had to do it.

  174. And by the way, incidentally, it also had to do that to fulfill

  175. prophecy that Jesus would be lifted up on a cross and fulfill

  176. what the Old Testament said and not a Jewish Stony.

  177. We know all that. So why this then?

  178. Why does it say you Jews have been taken by lawless hands?

  179. What does that mean? Well, Bruce says it this way.

  180. While the hands that carried out the grisly work of the

  181. crucifixion were the hands of lawless men, that is to say the

  182. Romans, why were they called lawless men?

  183. Because they were outside the range of the law received by

  184. Israel. They were outside of Jewish law.

  185. The Jews were God's people. The Jews took Jesus to those

  186. that were outside of God's people, and they were called

  187. lawless men. Notice he further says.

  188. Yet the instigators of the ACT were the Jews.

  189. It was the chief priestly leaders of the people who

  190. engineered his death. It was the Jerusalem mob, egged

  191. on by those leaders who yelled crucify him.

  192. But all who took part either directly or indirectly and

  193. putting him to death were unconsciously fulfilling the

  194. determined purpose and foreknowledge of of God.

  195. Amazing God's plan. By the way.

  196. Can I just slip this in? Doesn't that make you feel a

  197. greater desire to serve God and follow Jesus when you realize

  198. that the terrible acts that were done to him that God allowed,

  199. not only did God allow it, it was by His divine purpose, His

  200. foreknowledge, and He set it into motion.

  201. How about that kind of makes you want to serve Him more?

  202. But notice continues the thought in verse 24, whom God raised up,

  203. having loosed the pains of death.

  204. Now there's a sharp contrast between what man did to Jesus

  205. and what God did for him. Now I want to notice, please,

  206. there's a literal application and there is a spiritual

  207. application. So notice this.

  208. First of all, Zur brings up the physical aspect or the literal

  209. application. He said this.

  210. This statement here in this passage means that God released

  211. his son who had been bound in a death that had been accompanied

  212. by pain. That was literal, that was

  213. actual, that was physical. Jesus died, but God loosed the

  214. pains of death. Now remember, there's also a

  215. spiritual application. But notice this phrase right

  216. here. Because it was not possible that

  217. he should be held by it. That doesn't mean any

  218. impossibility on God's part, on Jesus's part.

  219. The impossibility is on death's part.

  220. Remember that song leads to saying death could not keep his

  221. prey. Jesus my Savior, He tore the

  222. bars away. You know why?

  223. Because God was going to raise him up and loose the pains of

  224. death and he did. So.

  225. A big contrast between what man did to Jesus and what God did

  226. for him, and not only for him, but all of mankind.

  227. That's the literal application. What is the spiritual

  228. application here? First of all, know this, when

  229. Satan caused Jesus to be put to death, he sealed his fate.

  230. Do you remember when Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper?

  231. Do you remember when Jesus has that private conversation with

  232. Judas Iscariot and Jesus says to him, after he said, one of you

  233. will betray me? And then Jesus says, whatever

  234. you're going to do, do it quickly.

  235. Go do it. Go do it quickly, right?

  236. And then it says Satan entered Judas.

  237. It didn't mean he was demonically possessed.

  238. It means he was listening to Satan.

  239. So when Satan LED those men to not only betray Jesus, but to

  240. crucify Jesus, the spiritual application of this passage is

  241. this. It sealed the devil's fate.

  242. Oh, but the very same act. It unleashed the power of God to

  243. salvation. In other words, man crucified

  244. Jesus, but then God used the pains of death.

  245. And it was all by the determined purpose and for knowledge of

  246. God. Twofold application, both

  247. literally for Jesus and spiritually for all mankind.

  248. And I'm so thankful. And by the way, that's the

  249. reason. OK, may I just say something a

  250. little comforting here? That's why we have hope.

  251. Death has no more sting to the child of God.

  252. To those that are in Christ, death has no more sting.

  253. Why? Because of what Jesus did.

  254. God raised him and loosed the pains of death.

  255. It's truly the great mystery of all the ages, the hidden wisdom

  256. of God. In all my life I've heard people

  257. say when something bad happens to a good person, they say, why

  258. in the world did God allow it? What is God's thought on that?

  259. Blaming God, questioning God, all the stuff that I've heard

  260. all my life well, you know what? If you want to question

  261. something, why don't you question this?

  262. You know why nobody questions this?

  263. Because we get a great benefit from it.

  264. We don't usually question stuff that we are the recipient or

  265. beneficiary of something good. We just question when it's bad.

  266. I got news for us all. As you know, it's still the same

  267. God who's still in control. And look at what God did for all

  268. mankind. Notice 1st Corinthians 2

  269. beginning in verse 7. But we speak the wisdom of God

  270. in a mystery. Interesting word, mystery.

  271. Sometimes I've heard it interpreted well.

  272. Mystery means plan. No, it doesn't.

  273. It's talking about the plan of God.

  274. It was always the plan of God. But the mystery, the word

  275. mystery doesn't mean plan. The word mystery means mystery.

  276. It means something that existed in the mind of God.

  277. I know it's just semantics, but I want to say it.

  278. It's something that existed in the mind of God but was not yet

  279. revealed. It was God's plan.

  280. What was God's plan? Notice the hidden wisdom of God

  281. ordained before the ages of glory for our glory, which none

  282. of the rulers of this age knew, for had they known, they would

  283. have not crucified the Lord of glory.

  284. It was always God's plan. It was the great mystery of the

  285. world that was not made known yet.

  286. Wow. OK, now we're going to fly

  287. through the next few verses because you're going to refer to

  288. Psalm 16, verses 8 through 11, and it's verses 25 through 28.

    Psalms 16:8–11

  289. We'll just read this and we're going to move on.

  290. For David says concerning him I foresaw the Lord always before

  291. my face, for he is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.

  292. Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue was glad.

  293. Moreover, my flesh also will rest in hope.

  294. For you will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will you allow

  295. your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me my

  296. way, the ways of my, to me the ways of life.

  297. You will make me full of joy in your presence.

  298. Again. It's a direct quote from Psalm

    Psalms 16:8–11

  299. 16, verses 8 through 11. OK, here's the point.

  300. David's speaking in first person, but he's not talking

  301. about himself. Peter's going to show that the

  302. Holy One who will not see corruption, I mean corruption

  303. meaning the body decaying, right?

  304. It can't be David. He's going to make that point

  305. again. The whole story is about Jesus.

  306. The thrust is to reveal Jesus and no one else as the promised

  307. Messiah. OK, so he begins this in verse

  308. 29. He says men and brethren.

  309. First of all, this is talking about kinship, brethren, meaning

  310. Jewish brethren, not Christian brethren.

  311. They weren't Christians yet. So he says men and brethren, we

  312. know there was men there. I already said that about men

  313. out of every nation under heaven.

  314. Jews, OK, but he calls them brethren, showing a kinship with

  315. them. And you know what?

  316. Tell you something. I know the whole sermon is

  317. divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit, but this is brilliant.

  318. Anytime you've got to make some real stern or serious points, it

  319. is always wonderful to make a connection of some sort in some

  320. way. But it's also the same kind of

  321. phraseology when a coach would go to a player and try to

  322. establish something positive. What he's doing here is he's

  323. establishing kinship. In other words, he changed and

  324. he's Jewish also. He says, men and brethren, what?

  325. Let me speak freely to you. What does that phrase actually

  326. mean? Well, Vincent says it means this

  327. speaking everything and therefore without reserve.

  328. In other words, Peter's saying, I'm going to give it all to you.

  329. And the first subject, or the subject in particular, is about

  330. the patriarch David. That's a very important subject.

  331. David is a very important subject to a Jewish person.

  332. Do you know why? Because King David was the

  333. greatest king Israel ever knew in the Old Testament.

  334. That's number one. Number two, the Jews also

  335. understood. OK.

  336. They also understood that it would be through the lineage of

  337. David that somebody was going to rise and sit on David's throne

  338. and rule Israel. That promise was given in the

  339. Old Testament in Psalm 132 and 11.

  340. The Lord has sworn in truth to David.

  341. He will not turn from it. I will set upon your throne the

  342. fruit of your body. They understood that.

  343. Here's where they messed up, and here's where they had trouble.

  344. They thought the Jews, they thought it was going to be an

  345. earthly king. They thought it was going to be

  346. a Kingdom of this world. They thought it was going to be

  347. a messianic king Kingdom that was part of this world.

  348. They all longed for that, to possibly even remove the

  349. oppressive thumb of Rome. They missed the point.

  350. The Kingdom of Jesus Christ, though, is what we're talking

  351. about, and it is a spiritual Kingdom.

  352. It is not of this world. Jesus even said himself, My

  353. Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this

  354. world, my servants would fight. Like Brent talked about the

  355. other day. He talked about the very idea

  356. when he was waiting on the table before the communion, and he

  357. said that he could have called more than 12 legions of angels

  358. and put a stop to the whole matter.

  359. You know why? Because he had the authority to

  360. do that. But he didn't do that because

  361. his Kingdom was not of this world.

  362. And you know, that very thought became a very major stumbling

  363. block to the Jews. Then he says, Speaking of the

  364. patriarch David, very specific here.

  365. He's both dead and buried. And his tomb is with us to this

  366. day. Here's an undeniable truth that

  367. David cannot be the Holy 1. He cannot be the one that did

  368. not see corruption. You know why?

  369. Because David is dead. David is buried and the tomb is

  370. still there. And by the way, I don't know how

  371. many years before this David was dead and buried, but many, many

  372. years. These words were written in AD

  373. 33, and I understand about the adjusted calendar of 8030 or 33.

  374. I do believe it's 8033. That's a sermon for another

  375. time. But let's just suffice it to say

  376. this was written a whole lot of years later, right?

  377. And Peter says the promised 1 of Psalms that did not see

  378. corruption can't be David. Why?

  379. Because David is dead, David is buried, and David's tomb is

  380. still with us this day, 8033. We live in in 2025 and if the

  381. Lord wills, we're going to see 26 in a few days if the Lord

  382. wills, right? Do you know what when that

  383. happens, David will still be dead, David will still be

  384. buried, and David's tomb is somewhere so he can't be the one

  385. that didn't see corruption. You get in the point.

  386. The attention of the Jews now in this sermon should be off of

  387. David and toward the correct Holy One in the book of Psalms.

  388. Then in verse 30 he said, therefore, being a prophet, he's

  389. talking about David. David being a prophet, he just

  390. prophesied back in Psalm 132 and 11 about this very thing.

  391. David the prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath

  392. to him. The promise is that through the

  393. fleshly lineage of David, Jesus would come.

  394. You know, over a dozen times in the New Testament, Jesus is

  395. referred to as the Son of David. Here's just three, Matthew 1 and

  396. verse one, Matthew 12 and verse 23, Luke 18 and 20 and 38.

  397. It was prophesied that from the fruit of his body, according to

  398. the flesh would come the Savior would come, the Messiah.

  399. Paul said the following two by the way, in Romans chapter 1 and

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  400. verse three he said concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord,

  401. who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh.

  402. Again, not trying to be redundant.

  403. These verses are proving his point.

  404. It's about Jesus now. Peter laid this foundation.

  405. The main point of the entire discourse is the Holy 1 is not

  406. David. Then who is it?

  407. It has to be Jesus to reign in this new Kingdom and that comes

  408. in verse 31 He would raise up or verse 30 he would raise up

  409. Christ to sit on that throne. He's the one.

  410. Verse 31, he foreseeing this spoke concerning the

  411. resurrection of Christ. Now obviously David is speaking

  412. by direct inspiration from God. He knew David knew the reference

  413. was not to himself, but it was to the Christ that would come.

  414. And I want to notice this right here.

  415. This is very important. Remember where's David?

  416. He's dead. He was buried and his sepulchre,

  417. his tomb, his grave is still there.

  418. What about the Holy 1 though that would not see corruption.

  419. He David foreseeing bespoke concerned the resurrection of

  420. Christ, that his Jesus soul was not left in Hades, nor did his

  421. flesh see corruption. OK Hades.

  422. Hades is defined by fear as the common receptacle of disembodied

  423. spirits in the New Testament. It's also called paradise.

  424. It's a place where Jesus went when he died.

  425. It's a place where he took that dying thief, the dying thief

  426. that said to Jesus, and by the way, please get this, this is

  427. very important. Where do you go when you die?

  428. Stay with me, Jesus said to this dying thief who said the

  429. question or said the words, Lord, Remember Me when you come

  430. into your Kingdom. Jesus says today you will be

  431. with me in paradise. Paradise is where the save go

  432. when they die. That's where Jesus went.

  433. It's the same word as Hades. Let me ask you a question.

  434. Where's David? Well, he's dead.

  435. He was buried. His grave still here.

  436. Where's David? David is in Hades or paradise,

  437. where dead people go when they're saved.

  438. By the way, can I just suggest something here too?

  439. Sometimes the word paradise can refer to heaven.

  440. But in this case, when Jesus said paradise, Luke 16 with the

  441. rich man of Lazarus, it's talking about paradise.

  442. That word is heydays. It's talking about the place

  443. that you go when you're saved, awaiting the resurrection.

  444. It is not heaven. So where's David?

  445. David's still in paradise. What about Jesus though?

  446. His soul was not left in Hades. So in other words, the physical

  447. body goes to the ground. The Bible says the spirit, the

  448. life force, goes back to God who gave it when you die.

  449. But what else then? The soul goes somewhere.

  450. The soul never dies. The saved go to paradise.

  451. OK, David's still there in paradise.

  452. Lazarus is still there in paradise.

  453. All those that have died are still there in paradise that are

  454. saved. Abraham is in paradise.

  455. All those that are saved are redeemed.

  456. Christians that are redeemed are in paradise.

  457. Now here's my question. He was not left in Hades.

  458. And the second thing, he didn't see his flesh, did not see

  459. corruption. So I want to ask you a question.

  460. Have you ever wondered about the significance of three days?

  461. OK, we know about three days. What is the significance

  462. scripturally about 3 days? When they came to Jesus in

  463. Matthew chapter 12 and verse 40 and they wanted to know, they

    Matthew 12 chapter mention

  464. said give us a sign, show us some kind of a magic trick that

  465. you are who you are and all that stuff.

  466. You know what he said? An evil and adulterous

  467. generation seeks after a sign. Then he said, And the only sign

  468. you're going to get is the sign of the prophet Jonah.

  469. For as Jonah was 3 days and three nights in the belly of the

  470. great fish, so also shall the Son of Man be 3 days and three

  471. nights in the heart of the earth.

  472. Significant. Jesus told his disciples, I'm

  473. going to die, and three days after that I'm going to rise.

  474. What is the significance of three days beyond scriptural

  475. proof? What about the practicality of

  476. that? We'll notice please, when a man

  477. dies, his soul or inner man goes to the unseen or intermediate

  478. realm and that's called Hades that we just noticed.

  479. His body remains on the earth, but after three days it will

  480. begin to decompose or see corruption.

  481. This fact explains the words of Martha in John Chapter 11 and

    John 11 chapter mention

  482. verse 39. Remember, Jesus is going to

  483. raise Lazarus from the dead. He goes there and he says take

  484. away the stone. And Lazarus's sister Martha

  485. says, oh, wait a minute, Lord, it's been 4 days and he's

  486. already, there's already a stench.

  487. That's what the new King James says.

  488. The old King James says he already stinketh.

  489. He's decomposing. Why it's been 4 days?

  490. Because in three days that's exactly what happens.

  491. Notice but this noted passage, Acts 231 means that the soul of

  492. Jesus was not to remain in Hades long enough for his body that

  493. had been placed in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea to start

  494. decaying. This is why it was necessary for

  495. Jesus to be raised from the dead after three days according to EM

  496. Zur. OK then he says this.

  497. In summary, he says this Jesus God raised up, of which we are

  498. all witnesses. Jesus, a descendant of David,

  499. now has been raised to be ruler over God's people.

  500. I'm going to give you 2 Old Testament passages, Psalm 89.3

  501. and four. I've made a covenant with my

  502. chosen. I've sworn to my servant David

  503. your seed. I will establish forever and

  504. build up your throne to all generations.

  505. One more passage, Second Samuel 712 and 13.

  506. When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your Father's, I

  507. will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body,

  508. and I will establish His Kingdom.

  509. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the

  510. throne of His Kingdom forever. Notice, in spite of this record,

  511. there's a lot of people today that are still looking for Jesus

  512. to come and establish a Kingdom. That's really sad.

  513. Three things. Irrefutable facts about the

  514. Kingdom. OK, the Kingdom was established

  515. during the lifetime of the apostles promised in Mark

    Mark 9 chapter mention

  516. Chapter 9 and verse one fulfilled in Acts chapter 2 #2

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  517. What's the Kingdom? The Kingdom of Jesus on the

  518. earth is His church that He promised to build in Matthew

  519. 1617 and 18. OK, who are those?

  520. Who does that make up? Some club?

  521. No, not a club you join up. What is the club?

  522. No club. The church is made-up of those

  523. who've been baptized for the remission of sins.

  524. Acts 238 Baptized believers in Jesus Christ are members of the

  525. Kingdom or the church that Jesus said that he would build.

  526. OK, what else about Jesus? Verse 33.

  527. Therefore, being exalted by the right hand of God.

  528. Now Peter is answering not only an anticipated question about

  529. where Jesus is, but by the phrase the right hand of God.

  530. He's not just talking about a location.

  531. In other words, this phrase means God raised Jesus and has

  532. given him power and authority. OK, He's given him power and

  533. authority to do what? Having received from the Father

  534. the promise of the Holy Spirit, he poured out this which you now

  535. see and hear. So he's summing up the events on

  536. Pentecost. They just witnessed it, the

  537. great multitude. Here's the results.

  538. It's the promise of what Jesus made to the apostles.

  539. And that's what happened. Now, the last two verses of this

  540. sermon for David did not ascend to the heavens.

  541. Can I pause there, please? Did you see that?

  542. And when I said David's not in heaven yet, I wasn't talking out

  543. of school, folks. But trust me, if you stay with

  544. me, it's going to get real good at the end, OK?

  545. Just don't misunderstand what I'm saying.

  546. It says David did not ascend into the heavens.

  547. It's not there yet, but it's about Jesus.

  548. And he says of himself, the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right

  549. hand till I make your enemies your footstool.

  550. Now Sir says it this way. Coming back to David, Peter

  551. reminds them again that the prophet had not ascended to

  552. heaven and was therefore not at God's right hand.

  553. That would explain that another noted prophecy could have not

  554. meant David, for it says the Lord who was Christ was to sit

  555. on the right hand of God until Christ had become a universal

  556. conqueror. And this prediction is in Psalm

  557. 110 and verse one. That's the quote that we just

  558. read in the previous verse. So how long is Jesus going to

  559. reign as king on the throne at the right hand of God with all

  560. authority and all power? How long is Jesus going to

  561. reign? First Corinthians 15 beginning

  562. in verse 24. Then comes the end when he

  563. delivers the Kingdom to God the Father, when he puts an end to

  564. all rule and authority and power.

  565. For he must reign till he has put all enemies under his feet,

  566. and the last enemy that we should be destroyed is death.

  567. OK. So are men still dying today?

  568. Yeah, unfortunately, yeah. So as long as men are still

  569. dying, Jesus is still reigning over the Kingdom.

  570. I said David did not ascend to heaven.

  571. So when will David finally get to go to heaven?

  572. It didn't say when saved, didn't say he's paying a price in

  573. purgatory. That's unscriptural.

  574. I didn't say any of that. He's the place where the saved

  575. go, awaiting something. When will David finally get to

  576. heaven and when will the saved get to heaven?

  577. Let's answer it with the Bible first Thessalonians 4, beginning

  578. in verse 15. For this we say to you by the

  579. word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain unto the

  580. coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are

  581. asleep, and that means that have died, OK.

  582. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a

  583. shout, with the voice of the Archangel, with the trumpet of

  584. God, And the dead in Christ will rise first.

  585. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with

  586. them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

  587. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

  588. OK? If people die and go straight to

  589. heaven, why would he come back to bring us home?

  590. Sister Sue don't want to embarrass Sister Sue.

  591. She said something beautiful last Sunday.

  592. We were talking and she said, you know, one day we're going to

  593. all be there together. Amen and Amen.

  594. I'm going to add something to it.

  595. Not only are we going to all go and be together, we're going to

  596. all go together. We're going to all go together.

  597. When I didn't make this up when give you bobble on that for as

  598. Adam all die Even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

  599. That's talking about spiritually alive, but each one in his own

  600. order. Christ the first fruits.

  601. In other words, Jesus Christ is the first fruits, meaning he's

  602. the first one to ever die raised from the dead, never to die

  603. again. That's how he's the first

  604. fruits. He's first.

  605. What about the rest of us, but afterward, those who are Christ

  606. when at his coming, I'm going to tell you something we talk about

  607. and I don't know how it's going to be.

  608. I don't I don't know. I don't know.

  609. I don't know how it's going to be, but I do know this.

  610. We talk about a great reunion and him listen, we get to take

  611. the trip together. My son-in-law, 11 time we were

  612. going skiing and my son-in-law loves all the prep to get ready

  613. to go on a trip, you know, getting the truck ready, getting

  614. this ready. He said, man, this is the this

  615. is the best part, best part. And I was thinking to myself

  616. when he said that before he left my second man, if he thinks this

  617. is the best part, he's going to be blown away by the ski trip.

  618. Can you imagine the road trip together?

  619. We're not only going to be together, we're going to go

  620. together. So last Sunday when Chris LED

  621. that song about what we're going to see, you know what the beauty

  622. of that is? It's true.

  623. But we're all going to see it together at his coming.

  624. OK, That's Peter's sermon. What's next?

  625. The results and the blessings that's coming next.

  626. Stay tuned on that. We never know the hearts and

  627. minds of those that are present. I don't know how it is with you

  628. today. I talked about how important it

  629. is for a Christian because death has no more sting to a

  630. Christian. And it's all because God removed

  631. or released Jesus from the pains of death when he raised him from

  632. the dead. The spiritual application is it

  633. opened the floodgates for man's salvation.

  634. So if a person wants to go to heaven, they can.

  635. Jesus says whoever will. In other words, if you'll come

  636. to Jesus, you get to go. Isn't that great?

  637. If you want to, and you will, you can.

  638. Period. But this is what you got to do.

  639. You got to hear the word of God. These are the steps to become a

  640. child of God. Romans 10/17.

  641. So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

  642. After you hear the word of God, you got a choice.

  643. You got to believe with all your heart.

  644. Hebrews 11 and 6. Without faith it's impossible to

  645. please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and

  646. that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

  647. Do you believe in Jesus? Surely you do, Surely you do.

  648. Then you're willing to just make a little change in your life in

  649. your mind. First you got a repent of your

  650. sins. I'm going in this direction.

  651. I'm going to follow Jesus and go in that direction.

  652. Acts 1730. Truly these times of ignorance

  653. God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.

  654. Then what? I got to confess Jesus as the

  655. Son of God. Acts 837 Then Philip said, if

  656. you believe with all your heart you may.

  657. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the

  658. Son of God. These points lead to salvation,

  659. but the point of salvation is being baptized for the remission

  660. of sins. Acts 238 Mark 16/16.

  661. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does

  662. not believe will be condemned. And finally, first Peter 321

  663. from the old King James. I like the way the old King

  664. James renders this verse the light figure wherein the even

  665. baptism doth also now save us, not the putting away the filth

  666. of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God by

  667. the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  668. If you've never become a Christian, we would love to

  669. assist you in that. And these are the steps to

  670. become one. Contact the blood of Jesus, rise

  671. to walk in newness of life and be saved today.

  672. Maybe you've taken these steps. Just maybe there's some

  673. correction you need to make in your life, something of a public

  674. nature. Maybe we can pray with you and

  675. for you. Whatever be the case, let your

  676. request be made known while we stand and while we see.
