  1. It's wonderful to be here with. All of you today.

  2. And we have a wonderful crowd here that's with us.

  3. We have visitors from other congregations.

  4. We have. Visitors from the community.

  5. And we want you to know that you are.

  6. Our honored guest and we say welcome and thank you for being

  7. here with us today. We just have a wonderful crowd.

  8. And it is. As always the case.

  9. It's my honor to. Speak to you concerning.

  10. The word of God. This morning we're continuing

  11. our. Series on the day the.

  12. Kingdom came and the title of our lesson this morning is

  13. Peter's sermon Part 3. The answer, the benefits and the

  14. results. Our introductory text is found

  15. in Acts chapter 2, beginning in verse 36, where Peter says

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  16. therefore let all the house. Of Israel know, assuredly.

  17. That God has made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord

  18. and. Christ now when?

  19. They heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter

  20. and the rest of the. Apostles, men and brethren, what

  21. shall. We do.

  22. Then Peter said to them. Repent.

  23. And let. Everyone of you be baptized in

  24. the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall

  25. receive the gift of the Holy Spirit for the promises to you

  26. and to your children, and to all who are far off, as many as the

  27. Lord our God. Shall call now verse. 40 And

  28. with many other words, he testified and exhorted them,

  29. saying, Be saved from this perverse generation.

  30. Then those who gladly received his word were baptized, and that

  31. day about 3000 souls were added to them.

  32. Let me just say this. Please before we go any further.

  33. If you've been a Christian. Any amount of time in your life,

  34. I don't know, 20 years? 30 years, 40 years 50.

  35. Years. I have no idea how long you've

  36. been a Christian. Maybe in your mind you're saying

  37. I've heard these verses my whole.

  38. Life. And maybe it causes us sometimes

  39. when we look at verses that we've seen so.

  40. Often in our life, and for so many.

  41. Years, just maybe in our mind we can kind of check out and say

  42. been there, done that, saw the video.

  43. About the T-shirt, I'm going to ask you not to do that.

  44. I'm going to. Ask you to saddle.

  45. Up and ride with me today. I'm going to.

  46. Ask you to stay in tune because just maybe there might be a

  47. nugget or two. That you can take in your life

  48. and just. Maybe if you know these things

  49. inside and out, just maybe. You might have a nugget.

  50. That you can use to give an answer of the reason of the hope

  51. that is in you with meekness and fear.

  52. When somebody asks. You Why do you believe the way

  53. you believe? So stay with me please.

  54. By way of an introduction, let me just say.

  55. And I'm going to be very brief. Our series began on the Kingdom

  56. all the way back in Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  57. In the very beginning, Jesus had promised those disciples, his 12

  58. apostles, that they would have the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

  59. They got the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

  60. They spoke in tongues. As the Spirit gave them

  61. utterance, we noticed that those tongues were not gibberish.

  62. It was not ecstatic Babble. It was normative languages and

  63. they actually heard. In their own native not only.

  64. Tongue, but even in their. Own.

  65. Native dialect, Did they understand?

  66. They absolutely did, they said. We hear the wonderful.

  67. Works of God, they heard it in their language.

  68. Then they wondered what could this mean and some said these.

  69. Guys are drunk. And I like what Peter says.

  70. Peter responds to their comment about these men being drunk.

  71. He does so number one in a two fold manner.

  72. But number 1, he does so by appealing to their logic.

  73. He said these men are not drunk and as you suppose, it's 9:00.

  74. In the morning, that's number. One more importantly, these are

  75. the words that were spoken by the prophet Joel, one of your

  76. Jewish prophets. But all that was just laying the

  77. foundation. This is why they're able to

  78. speak in tongues. This is why you're seeing what

  79. you're seeing. But now comes the sermon, the

  80. very heart. Of the lesson and.

  81. It was the story of Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah, that the

  82. Jews longed for, that the Jews even.

  83. Rejected. And that was our last sermon in

  84. this series. And he preaches to them about

  85. Jesus Christ. Now.

  86. It took them all the way down through verse. 35 And now we

  87. begin in verse 36. Today, therefore, let all the

  88. House of Israel, I want to just stop and make a point.

  89. About that phrase right there. That phrase indicates the

  90. following number one in context with regards to who crucified

  91. Jesus. It is an all inclusive phrase

  92. that means all the House of Israel is talking to the Jews.

  93. They are all guilty. And no one's to be excluded.

  94. That's number one in context, but you know something else.

  95. Number 2IN context, and this is beautiful, it is the fulfillment

  96. of what the Word of God says, that the gospel was going forth

  97. to the Jewish people first. The Bible even says that.

  98. For I'm not. Ashamed of the gospel of Christ,

  99. Paul said. For it is the power of God to

  100. salvation to everyone who believes.

  101. For the Jew 1st, and also for the Greek.

  102. Now notice this interesting phrase here.

  103. Greek. I'm glad that.

  104. We understand what that. Means it means Gentiles.

  105. And I'm glad that the gospel went forth to the Gentiles too,

  106. because guess what? I think everybody in this room

  107. is a Gentile. I don't, I don't know.

  108. Maybe you have? Jewish blood in your body, and I

  109. have no idea about it, but I'm just telling you right now, I

  110. think. Everybody's probably a Gentile.

  111. I'm glad about that. That's wonderful.

  112. The gospel went forth to the Jewish people first.

  113. So that phrase right there is an all inclusive phrase of the

  114. entire House of Israel, all the Jews we get.

  115. That now something else though. I want you to notice this phrase

  116. here, please, for it is the power of God to salvation.

  117. For who? Everyone who believes?

  118. Did you know whether I believe the gospel?

  119. Or not. Has absolutely no bearing

  120. whatsoever on whether it's. True or not?

  121. Jesus said in John 17 and 17 when he prayed to his Father, He

  122. said sanctify them by your truth.

  123. Your word is truth. That is absolute truth.

  124. And whether I believe it or whether.

  125. I don't believe it has no bearing on whether it's true.

  126. It is true. In other words, my.

  127. Response to it is going to determine whether it's saves or

  128. fails. I tell you something sometimes.

  129. When the gospel is preached, people get offended, don't they?

  130. Sometimes people get offended. I don't want to hear that stuff,

  131. but you know, a person's response to the gospel

  132. determines whether it saves or offends.

  133. It's your response. In fact, Paul says it has the

  134. power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.

  135. OK, now going back in context, let all the House of Israel know

  136. assuredly that God made that same Jesus that you crucified.

  137. You know what this is called? This is called using the sword

  138. of the Spirit to cut. The heart of the hearer.

  139. Ouch. That's the sword of the Spirit.

  140. You know what the sword of the Holy Spirit is?

  141. It's the Word of God. That's the sword of the.

  142. Spirit and by the way, in our life.

  143. We don't wield a sword and go fight people.

  144. The weapon that we use is the word of God.

  145. My good friend and brother in Christ's great branch.

  146. One day we were standing outside some, I think it was AI can't

  147. remember what meeting it was, maybe.

  148. I don't think it was New Year. Anyway, Labor Day I think it

  149. was. We're all standing out there.

  150. He has a stack of Bibles in his hands.

  151. He goes, man, I got to get rid of these stories before I hurt

  152. somebody. I got to go put these down.

  153. The services are over. I got to put these down before I

  154. hurt somebody. That's the only weapon we have.

  155. And Peter, on the day of Pentecost, is using the sword of

  156. the Spirit to cut the heart. Now remember, a person's

  157. response determines whether it saves or offense.

  158. OK. What he's saying is he's putting

  159. the blame on crucifying the Messiah.

  160. On the Jews. The long-awaited Messiah.

  161. Let's talk about that sword of the Spirit, Hebrews 4 and 12.

  162. For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than

  163. any 2 edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and

  164. spirit and of joints and Morrow, and is a discerner of the

  165. thoughts and intents. Of the heart again.

  166. Our response determines whether it saves or offense.

  167. Notice after he's pretty much convicted them of crucifying

  168. Jesus, he says what God made that Jesus.

  169. He made him Lord in Christ. And I'm going to be.

  170. Very careful how I phrase. This next thing.

  171. If I want to ask you if you've ever seen a bumper sticker or a

  172. T-shirt or a sign that says Jesus is Lord, you would say

  173. absolutely, I've seen that. I'm not going to ever stand

  174. before you and say. It is an overused phrase because

  175. you can't overuse that phrase. It is true.

  176. Jesus is Lord, absolutely. Let me ask you a question

  177. though. Is he?

  178. Your Lord. People say Jesus is the Lord of

  179. my life. Well, let's find out.

  180. Let's find out if he's really the Lord.

  181. Of your life. The word Lord signifies having

  182. power and authority. Now we know that Jesus has power

  183. and authority. Jesus said that.

  184. He said all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

  185. Who gave him the authority? His Father, God the Father gave

  186. him the power. We get it, we get it, we get it.

  187. So he's Lord absolutely. He's King of kings, he's Lord of

  188. Lords. I know I'm just overemphasizing

  189. that, but I'm doing that because I don't want you to get the

  190. wrong. Idea.

  191. I'm not saying he's not. I'm saying if you don't give him

  192. or submit to his power and authority in your life, he is

  193. not. The Lord of your life.

  194. How do you? Submit to his authority.

  195. You know what Jesus said out of his own mouth?

  196. I love the name dropping. Jesus.

  197. I like just to say what Jesus said.

  198. Then you can. Get off my back, right?

  199. Jesus says, why do you call me Lord?

  200. Lord and do not do the things that I say?

  201. Oh, OK, He said if you love me, keep my commandments.

  202. He said if you love me, keep my words, and if you keep my words

  203. you will abide in my love as I've kept my father's

  204. commandments. And abide in His love.

  205. First, John says this. By this we know that we know

  206. him. That's a relationship.

  207. If what if we keep his commandments?

  208. So that's how you know if you're submitting to His power and His

  209. authority, then he's the Lord of your life.

  210. Now. He's also the Christ.

  211. And you know what? Everybody loves this one.

  212. Everybody wants him to be this, the anointed one or the Messiah

  213. that saved your soul. Everybody wants that one.

  214. I'm just. Saying this, please hear me, you

  215. only reap the benefits of Jesus being the Messiah in your life

  216. when he is Lord of your. Life and that comes by.

  217. Submitting to his power and his authority and keeping what he

  218. said to do. All right.

  219. So the facts are in 5 facts. One, Jesus had been approved of

  220. God by miracles, wonders and signs.

  221. That was verse 22. Fact #2 God raised Jesus from

  222. the dead. Verse 24.

  223. Oh, this was a masterful sermon. Was it not?

  224. That Peter preached 3 Jesus is the son of David from the

  225. lineage of David verse 30. Next Jesus, not David, is at the

  226. right hand of God. That was verse 33.

  227. And finally, Jesus, not David, is the holy One exalted to reign

  228. over the. Kingdom of God that was.

  229. Verse 34. Now remember, our response

  230. matters, right? Verse 37 when they heard this,

  231. they were cut to the heart. The word cut or in the King

  232. James, it's the word pricked. It comes from that Greek word,

  233. right? There, I don't know how to

  234. pronounce. I can kind of sound it out, but

  235. I'm not a Greek scholar. I'm not.

  236. And you know, we don't really don't care how it's pronounced.

  237. I'm going to tell you what it means.

  238. Fair says it means to pain the mind sharply, agitated

  239. vehemently. That sound very pleasant.

  240. That doesn't sound like a lot of fun at all, is it?

  241. Have you ever stopped to consider that God wants you to

  242. feel guilty when you are? Wrong.

  243. Even though our society says don't be guilty, don't feel

  244. guilty, that's a bad. Thing we don't want that to

  245. happen. We don't want disappointment and

  246. guilt. You know what?

  247. God? Wants you to feel guilty but

  248. never live in a state of perpetual guilt.

  249. He wants you to live in a state. Of I want to find out what I got

  250. to do to get. Rid of the guilt.

  251. See a change? That's the ultimate plan of God.

  252. What happened? They were cut to the.

  253. Heart, that was. Painful.

  254. The gospel literally stung the hearts of the Jews.

  255. They heard it. Now please get this.

  256. They heard. They believed.

  257. Were they saved? Now I'm going to tell you.

  258. They heard it. And they believed it.

  259. Were they saved? Hang on, let's talk about the

  260. Word of God though. Having the power Romans 10/17 So

  261. faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

  262. Now notice they heard faith was produced, they believed and then

  263. they asked the question, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

  264. When they heard the facts, their grief and feeling of guilt

  265. caused them to ask what should they do?

  266. Well, let me ask you a question. Do about what?

  267. Remember verse 21, verse 21 said in Acts 2, And it shall come to

  268. pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  269. You know, if they were asking folks when they said, men and

  270. brethren, what shall we do? They're saying what shall we do

  271. to be? Saved.

  272. That is the greatest question you will ever ask, by the way.

  273. Do you know the? Answer to that question is the

  274. only thing that matters in your life, because you know why.

  275. Because if the answer to that question is wrong, then nothing

  276. in the world will ever matter. But if the answer to that

  277. question is right, nothing else. In the world will ever matter.

  278. Get the point? It's the greatest thing ever.

  279. What I mean by that is when all the negative stuff and bad stuff

  280. happens in life, if you got that answer right and then nothing

  281. matters. Got to get that one right.

  282. That's the only thing that matters.

  283. What's it mean though, to call on the name of the Lord?

  284. Calling means to invoke adore, worship the Lord, IE Christ,

  285. according to Mr. Thayer. And calling on the name of the

  286. Lord for salvation means obey His commandments.

  287. That's what it means. They want to know what.

  288. Must I do to be saved? Now folks, listen.

  289. I'm not making fun. Please understand.

  290. I say this with all humility. I say this with love in my

  291. heart. Listen to me.

  292. Please, he doesn't say raise your hand except Jesus in your.

  293. Heart as your savior and then go on and do whatever you want.

  294. He just didn't say it. Did he say it?

  295. He didn't say it. He gave them something.

  296. They. Had to do OK.

  297. I know it's a popular way. But do you know raising your

  298. hand? And praying a little couple

  299. sentence prayer called the sinner's prayer is not in the

  300. Bible at all. Not one passage, not one place,

  301. not once. Let.

  302. Me tell you what exactly the. Answer was in this passage.

  303. They had to do something. Here it is Remember, remember,

  304. they already heard, they already believed.

  305. Then they said, what do we do? And that's verse 38.

  306. And the first thing they said, repent.

  307. You know, I got to tell you, we spend a lot of.

  308. Time on the next part, but we don't spend a whole lot of time,

  309. maybe not enough time, on this one.

  310. And may I just say this too, repentance means to change 1's.

  311. Mind. So that a change of life is

  312. produced. It changes your mind.

  313. If you don't think that's important in a life change, let

  314. me ask you a question. Have you?

  315. Ever in. Your life had to quit something

  316. that you realized was bad and you needed to quit it.

  317. And you? Struggled in doing so.

  318. I don't want to know. I'm just saying, have you?

  319. Let me just say this, until a person determines in their mind

  320. first, I am finished with that. You're not finished and.

  321. Sometimes if something's difficult to quit, you got to

  322. get it in your mind. I'm done with that.

  323. And then seek out help in order to do that, no.

  324. Problem with that. But nothing happens until you

  325. determine. In your mind.

  326. Until you determine in your. Mind, I'm done.

  327. I'm going to tell you something. I'd never do this.

  328. I'm going to do it right now. OK, preacher's going to get a

  329. little vulnerable here. It comes long before I was ever

  330. a preacher. Started when I was. 11 years

  331. old, I'd dip. Snuff.

  332. Yeah, I did. Cowboys.

  333. That's what Cowboys did. Treat Copenhagen all my young

  334. life. Sorry Mom 11 tried to quit many

  335. times. Married a dental hygienist.

  336. People tried to. Scare me.

  337. Loved ones tried to beg me to quit, tried many times only to

  338. go back, quit for a week. Two weeks.

  339. Went back, but then I looked at that little girl and Tina and I

  340. said, a friend of mine said you're going to be gone one day

  341. and you won't have them. It made me so mad.

  342. I laid it down. Had to decide right there.

  343. I'm done, by the way, long before I was a preacher many

  344. moons ago, a lot of years ago, but yeah, struggled.

  345. Haven't had any of that in a million years, but had a problem

  346. then. Until you determine in your

  347. mind. You're done.

  348. You're not. And then?

  349. When you want to change your life for the Lord Jesus Christ,

  350. until you determine in your mind I'm going to change you didn't

  351. The Bible says as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

  352. It all starts right here. That's what repentance is.

  353. And if a person is struggling spiritually in their spiritual

  354. life with change, it's because they haven't determined here I'm

  355. changing. That's what you got to do first.

  356. Change it right here. WE, Vine said.

  357. From a spiritual perspective, in the New Testament the subject

  358. chiefly has reference to repentance from sin, and this

  359. change of mind involves both the turning from sin.

  360. And a turning to God. So repentance is something that

  361. a person does and not something that somebody gets.

  362. Ian Zer said this. It's a turning from a sinful

  363. course and a choosing of the. Right one.

  364. It's a choice, remember, they said, men and brethren, what

  365. shall we do? Sounds like you got.

  366. Some stuff to do doesn't. It sound like something you got

  367. to do, got to change. Starts in your mind, leads to a

  368. change of life. Then what?

  369. Let everyone of you that are requesting of what to do to be

  370. saved be baptized. Now please understand, contrary

  371. to a popular position, this is not.

  372. Holy Spirit baptism this is. Water baptism Holy Spirit

  373. baptism was a promise that was given to the.

  374. Apostles in Acts chapter 2. Water baptism is a command that

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  375. everybody must do. In order to be saved.

  376. One's a promise to the apostles for a.

  377. Reason and a purpose. The other is a command if

  378. somebody. Wants to be saved.

  379. Water baptism. In fact, when the Bible says in

  380. Ephesians chapter 4 and verse 51 Lord 1 faith, one baptism.

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  381. The one baptism is water baptism for the remission of sins.

  382. It's required of every. Person that wants to be.

  383. Saved so the scripture says the. Following about baptism 5.

  384. Things 11 must be baptized to be saved.

  385. Mark 16162. Baptism is for the remission of

  386. sins. Acts 238.

  387. Three baptism will wash your way sins.

  388. Acts 22164 Baptism puts one into Christ.

  389. Galatians 327 and five. Baptism saves US first.

  390. Peter 3. 21. That's what the Bible says.

  391. About baptism, OK, so. Let everyone of you be baptized,

  392. and I have to make a point about this in the name of Jesus

  393. Christ. There's no contradiction in the

  394. Scripture. Somebody asked me not long ago.

  395. Why does it say in Acts 238 that you're baptized in the name of

  396. Jesus and then Jesus said in Matthew 2819 and 20 we're

  397. baptized in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy

  398. Spirit? There's actually full doctrines

  399. that actually believe in people that believe.

  400. No, I believe in being baptized in the name of Jesus only.

  401. Let me explain it. Don't have a lot of time, but I

  402. have. To just explain it to you

  403. quickly. One what it means is this, to be

  404. baptized in the name of Jesus is to be baptized by his.

  405. Authority, in other words. Exactly the way the Lord said to

  406. do it by His authority. How do you baptize?

  407. By his authority. Look to the words that he

  408. already said. Matthew 2819 and 20 baptizing

  409. them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and.

  410. Of the Holy Spirit. No contradiction.

  411. When you baptize somebody in the name of the Father, Son, the

  412. Holy Spirit, you are baptizing them by the authority of.

  413. Jesus Christ. So it's both.

  414. By the authority of Jesus, I baptize you in the name of the.

  415. Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Now let me just say this.

  416. I know. That a lot of.

  417. People in life, I'm just. Going to say this in.

  418. Passing have been baptized at. Some.

  419. Point in their life, in some sort of past that they've had,

  420. they've had some. Kind of water baptism.

  421. OK, let me just say. This ask yourself the question

  422. in your heart privately. This was I baptized by the

  423. authority. Of Jesus Christ.

  424. By being baptized in the name of the Father and the Son and the

  425. Holy Spirit for the. Remission of my sins.

  426. More on that in just a minute. Just ask yourself.

  427. Was I? Because that's what matters.

  428. Peter presented the evidence of his sermon.

  429. The answer was repent and be baptized.

  430. Now there's two benefits. Benefit #1 you get the

  431. remission. Of.

  432. Sins. That's what you get.

  433. This is something that you do repent and be baptized.

  434. This is something that you get from doing it.

  435. Remission of sins. You know what remission means to

  436. have your to have the debt removed.

  437. Isn't that great? Having the debt removed, OK.

  438. All right. So here's the problem.

  439. My whole life I've heard. The dispute of what this phrase

  440. means some people believe that this means that you're baptized

  441. because. Of the remission of your sins,

  442. or in other words. It is an outward show.

  443. Or outward demonstration of an inward faith.

  444. It is the confirmation outwardly of what you've.

  445. Already become inwardly heard all that that my whole life.

  446. OK, well let's just do this. Let's examine what the word for

  447. means. If we can understand what that

  448. means, we'll know exactly what this passage means.

  449. This word for comes from this Greek word here EIS, however you

  450. pronounce it. That Greek word is found in

  451. another passage. It's very familiar.

  452. Not only the same word but also the same exact phrase when Jesus

  453. instituted the Lord's Supper in Matthew chapter 26 and 28.

    Matthew 26 chapter mention

  454. When Jesus said for this is my blood of the new covenant which

  455. is shed for many for the remission of sins.

  456. Let me ask you a question. Did Jesus shed his blood on the

  457. cross because our sins were already remitted?

  458. Nobody in the world believes that.

  459. If you believe in the existence of Jesus Christ and that he died

  460. on the cross, nobody in the world believes that he died

  461. because our sins were already forgiven.

  462. Nobody believes that. But people also say but we're

  463. baptized because our sins were already.

  464. Forgiven. Let's go back to that word,

  465. remission. Remission means the removal.

  466. Of guilt. Jesus died on the cross, shed

  467. his blood so that we might have the removal of the guilt of our

  468. sins. Everybody believes that same

  469. word when you're baptized. Same is true.

  470. Now remember, please, they heard the word.

  471. Still have the guilt. Still have the debt.

  472. They believed in Jesus. They still have the debt.

  473. They still have the guilt. They were told to repent as part

  474. of the process and change their life.

  475. Still have the guilt, still have the debt.

  476. But when they were baptized in order to have the removal of the

  477. debt, that's when it happened. You know why?

  478. Because that's when they contacted the blood that Jesus

  479. shed. On the cross.

  480. Because you know what? I don't care who you are, you

  481. can't be forgiven without the blood of Jesus.

  482. Does everybody agree with that? Absolutely.

  483. And the only way you get the blood of Jesus is at baptism.

  484. That's where you contacted? OK, every morning.

  485. I'm not a Starbucks guy. I'm a cowboy.

  486. I like to go down and get, you know what I like, say what I

  487. like. I like black coffee from the gas

  488. station. And I get it every day, love it.

  489. Sometimes Tanner will say, how much have you had today By the

  490. time I get to the job? That's what I do.

  491. Every morning. I go to the gas station for a

  492. cup of coffee early in the morning.

  493. It's still dark outside. Favorite time of the day?

  494. Let. Me ask you a question.

  495. Did I go to the gas station? Because I already had one, or I

  496. go to the gas station for a cup of coffee in order to get one.

  497. It's the same phraseology. It's the same idea.

  498. OK, now, Kaufman said this. As long as this verse remains in

  499. the sacred New Testament, the terms of admission in the Christ

  500. Kingdom shall continue to be understood as faith.

  501. And by the way, remember they were already believers.

  502. Then repentance and baptism unto the remission of sins.

  503. And by the way, I corrected all these.

  504. And then the computer messed it up and it stuck it back and I

  505. had trouble this morning. I know that's supposed to be an

  506. F. OK.

  507. Oh, I tried. So the word stands, baptism and

  508. water for the remission of sins is divinely, is a divinely

  509. appointed prerequisite for salvation.

  510. Mark 1616. Acts 2216.

  511. First Peter 3. And verse 21 the.

  512. Gospel is preached the answer to their souls inquiry what shall

  513. we do was repent and be baptized benefit. #1 great.

  514. Stuff you get remission of sins meaning.

  515. It's removed. Your previous sins are removed.

  516. Benefit #2. And that's where we'll spend the

  517. rest of our time. You get the gift of the Holy

  518. Spirit. I want you to notice something,

  519. folks. Please, please get this.

  520. You get 2 things. They're not the same.

  521. It's not the same thing. You get 2.

  522. They were told what to do. And that was point number one of

  523. our three-part lesson. The answer?

  524. Repent and be baptized. After the sermon is preached.

  525. The benefits of doing that, remission of sins, that's number

  526. one. Here's benefit #2 the gift of

  527. the Holy Spirit. This big word and right here

  528. means you get both 2 great things.

  529. When you repent and are baptized, you have the remission

  530. of your sins and you have the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  531. Now 5 sermons ago. Yeah, it's been 55 sermons ago

  532. of me. I touched on this briefly.

  533. And I said when we get to Acts 238, I'm going.

  534. To say a little bit more, what's the gift I'm.

  535. Going to tell you I. Used to believe.

  536. Well, the gift was salvation. I used to believe, well, it's

  537. all spiritual blessings in Christ.

  538. I used to believe that. It meant.

  539. It is the gift that comes from the Holy.

  540. Spirit or the Holy Spirit's gift?

  541. But after further study of this, is that what it's talking?

  542. About no, because when a. One repents and is baptized.

  543. He's not automatically assured of eternal life or salvation.

  544. Why? Obedience to the gospel simply

  545. allows one to run in the Christian race.

  546. It does not guarantee the reward.

  547. The outcome of salvation depends on faithfulness of the

  548. individual. Give me some Bible.

  549. James 519 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth

  550. and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a

  551. Sinner from the error of his way will save the soul from death

  552. and cover a multitude of sins. Also, Galatians 5 and verse 4

  553. says that it's possible for a person to fall from grace.

  554. OK, so that being said, what is the gift?

  555. The gift, according to Thayer, is an hexagenical expression of

  556. the thing given. And maybe in your life, maybe in

  557. your. Back academic background you

  558. knew about what the. Word apexagenical.

  559. I even had to I even had to click on Google to.

  560. Find out how to pronounce it. So maybe you've always known

  561. what apexagenical was, but not me.

  562. So I looked it up. Apexagenical actually means a

  563. word to further clarify or explain the subject under

  564. consideration. The gift isn't a pexigenical

  565. expression, meaning a word to clarify the subject under

  566. consideration. OK now in Acts chapter 2 and

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  567. verse 38, the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  568. The clause is a pexigenical with the word gift being the Holy

  569. Spirit himself. You get 2 things.

  570. Folks, you get remission of sins and you get the.

  571. Gift of the Holy Spirit. So far, it's the Holy.

  572. Spirit himself, stay with me. Here we go.

  573. The word gift is added to clarify what the Holy Spirit is.

  574. What is it? It's a gift.

  575. JW Megarby said this. This expression means the Holy

  576. Spirit is a gift and the reference is to the non

  577. miraculous indwelling of the Holy Spirit by which we bring

  578. forth the fruits of the Spirit and without which we are not of

  579. Christ. According to JW Mcgarvey.

  580. Give me some more. Bruce said this way, the gift of

  581. the Spirit is the Spirit himself bestowed by the Father through

  582. the Messiah. Finally, Reese.

  583. So the thing received therefore by baptized believers is the

  584. indwelling presence of. The Holy Spirit by definitions

  585. of words and by the description of it.

  586. I changed my position on that subject.

  587. I did. It's a gift.

  588. It's the second blessing. Now with.

  589. Regards to how the spirit indwells, I know there's a

  590. number of positions that I'm not here to argue that I used to.

  591. Believe that the holy. Spirit indwelled us.

  592. Only through the. Word.

  593. Now, he doesn't dwell through the word, sure, but.

  594. I used to believe it was only. Through the word of God.

  595. Because the Bible says that the word indwells too.

  596. And I'm not saying that the word doesn't indwell, because it

  597. does. But may I suggest the following

  598. please? About that.

  599. When people try to make it exclusively the indwelling,

  600. exclusively through the Word. On the day of Pentecost, those

  601. who repented and were baptized had already gladly received His

  602. Word. They already had.

  603. It before they were baptized. OK, what else?

  604. That's Acts 241 verse 40. They were encouraged to be saved

  605. with many other words. What else?

  606. So the conclusion can be drawn that one may have the word of

  607. God and still not have the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  608. So the gift is the Holy Spirit Himself who comes to dwell.

  609. In the heart of every. Christian.

  610. Now. Regardless of a person's

  611. position. On how he indwells, it's

  612. undeniable that he does Romans chapter 8 and verse 9, but you

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  613. are not. In the.

  614. Flesh, but in the Spirit. If indeed the Spirit of God

  615. dwells in you now, if anyone. Does not have the Spirit.

  616. Of Christ He is not His in Acts. Chapter 5 and verse 30. 2:00 And

    Acts 5 chapter mention

  617. we are as witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy

  618. Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

  619. Do you see that given doesn't given?

  620. Sound like a gift given what's the prerequisite for getting it?

  621. Those that obey him? Those that follow what we talked

  622. about next to. 1st Corinthians 619 Or do you not know that your

  623. body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who was in you, whom you

  624. have from? God and you are not your own, so

  625. I have to. Put this up to sum it up, please

  626. don't misunderstand me. The gift of the Holy Spirit in

  627. this verse, yes, is the Holy Spirit himself.

  628. Everyone who is commanded to repent and be baptized for the

  629. remission of sins is also given the promise of the Holy Spirit

  630. as a gift. The gift of the Holy Spirit that

  631. indwells every Christian has no reference at all to the

  632. miraculous gifts of the Spirit given through the laying on of

  633. the Apostles hands, nor does he indwell the Christian in any

  634. way, shape or form miraculously the age of.

  635. Miracles are gone. We don't have that.

  636. I'm not talking. About any any kind of.

  637. I'm not talking about anything miraculous, nothing miraculous.

  638. And for those. That say, well these passages

  639. just don't apply. Today.

  640. OK, well look verse 39. For the promises to you and to

  641. your children and all that are far off, even as many as the.

  642. Lord, our God shall call. You know this phrase right here

  643. Even as many as. The Lord our God shall.

  644. Call kind of sounds like me and you and everybody.

  645. Else that would ever live. Same promise.

  646. What's the promise? The mission of sins and the gift

  647. of the Holy Spirit. When you do what?

  648. When you repent and are baptized in that fashion.

  649. According to the authority of Jesus Christ.

  650. OK, Christian. Water baptism, all right.

  651. We've noticed so far the benefits.

  652. Well, the answer, the benefits, and here's the results.

  653. And we're just about finished. Here's the results.

  654. They heard the word Remember when I said your response to the

  655. gospel determines? Whether or not.

  656. It saves or offends pretty cutting gospel on that day, it

  657. says with many other words, he testified and exhorted them

  658. saying be saved from this perverse generation, meaning he

  659. told them they have to do. Something on their part, you got

  660. to act on it. Then those who gladly received

  661. His word were baptized, and that day 3000 souls were.

  662. Added unto them, 3000. Souls received remission of

  663. sins. Which is a removal of the dead.

  664. Of your past sins received. The gift of the Holy Spirit,

  665. finally, I heard. This not long ago where?

  666. Somebody said this has to be in Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  667. This has to. Be Holy Spirit.

  668. Baptism, because it's impossible to baptize 3000 people on that

  669. one day. In that one time frame, you

  670. probably heard that that's a not a new argument I.

  671. Love what? JW Mcgarvey.

  672. Said JW Mcgarvey did a little math.

  673. JW Mcgarvey said this. Peter's sermon began at 9:00 AM.

  674. We'll know that from Scripture. And we may.

  675. Safely suppose that the proceedings at the temple closed

  676. as early as noon. This allows 6 hours to get it in

  677. that day for the. Baptizing to be.

  678. Completed as the text does assert, it is very deliberate.

  679. Work for an. Administrator to baptize one

  680. person in a minute, and if he stands at one spot, as is often

  681. the case when a large number are to be baptized and his

  682. candidates to come to him and one continuous line.

  683. The book can actually be done in half that time, but.

  684. At the rate of 60. 2 the hour. 12 men could.

  685. Baptize. 720 in one hour. And 3000.

  686. In four hours and 15 minutes, guess what?

  687. They got it done. I didn't need JW.

  688. Mugabe to say that I just read the Bible.

  689. But you know what? That's a good one, right?

  690. There, that's a good one. Water baptism, remember?

  691. That's a command next. I'm finished today, but guess

  692. what's coming next. The benefits of the gift I'm

  693. going to preach on what the. Gift practically.

  694. Does for you and your. Life what is?

  695. The gift of the Holy. Spirit.

  696. That indwells every Christian. What does it do for you?

  697. And your life now I. Know you know me and you're

  698. thinking, man, Frank, that's a huge subject.

  699. There's no way you're going to be able to that's going to be

  700. another series. I could preach a very long

  701. series. I'm not going to do that.

  702. So I'm not going to talk on every every single aspect

  703. haven't determined. Exactly how I'm going to.

  704. Approach that. But when my next lesson comes

  705. up, when it's my turn again, I'm going to talk about some

  706. practical, specific benefits. That you get by having the gift.

  707. In your life, because you know what?

  708. That's what people want. They want to know what they're

  709. doing for me. What is the?

  710. Benefit that's going to be. When I preach next.

  711. Thank you so much for your kind listening.

  712. You've been amazing and I appreciate that very, very much.

  713. If you have any questions regarding.

  714. This subject please. Ask me, I will gladly do my best

  715. to answer any questions. We never close.

  716. A time that we. Teach from the.

  717. Word of God without extending an invitation.

  718. The invitation is very clear. The steps to become a Christian

  719. you got to. Hear the Word of God.

  720. We talked about that in Acts chapter 2, Romans 10/17.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  721. So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

  722. That's what produces faith. Faith is belief.

  723. Hebrews 11 and 6. Without faith, it's impossible

  724. to please. Him, for he who comes to God

  725. must. Believe that he is.

  726. And that he. Is a rewarder of those who

  727. diligently seek him. Then what?

  728. Here's that word we talked about today.

  729. You got to repent starts in your mind.

  730. Acts 17 and 30. Truly these times of ignorance

  731. God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.

  732. Then you have to be willing to say the greatest thing you will

  733. ever say in your life, Confess Jesus as the Son of God.

  734. Acts 837. Then Philip.

  735. Said if you believe with. All your heart you may.

  736. And he answered and. Said I believe that.

  737. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Upon taking those steps, you're

  738. a fit candidate to go to the point of salvation, the place

  739. where you contact the blood of Jesus, and that is to be

  740. baptized for the remission of sins.

  741. Mark 16/16. He who believes and is baptized

  742. will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.

  743. And finally doesn't matter. And do you have to do it to be

  744. saved first? Peter 321 the King James says

  745. the like figure where the even baptism does also now save us,

  746. not the. Putting.

  747. Away the filth. Of the flesh, but the.

  748. Answer of a good conscience toward God by the.

  749. Resurrection of Jesus Christ if you have never taken those steps

  750. of obedience. We would love to assist you in

  751. that today if you have and maybe there's just something in your

  752. life that you. Need to correct You've been away

  753. from the Lord. You've been struggling.

  754. Whatever it might. Be then repent of that.

  755. Confess that we'll pray with. You and for you and God will

  756. forgive and. Restore if you want to be in a

  757. class, come forward while we stand.
