Finding Joy in Trials: A Sunday Message Preview

I would like to give you a preview of our Sunday morning service

on November 10th here at Middletown Baptist Church.

This week we're going to continue our study in Second Corinthians,

chapter seven.

We're going to start in verse number two.

And Paul is talking here about how he, to the best of his ability,

has tried to be honest and open here with the church at Corinth.

And he says, I've been bold in speaking the truth to you.

I'm excited for what God is doing in your life.

And he talks about in verse number four, he is filled with comfort

and he has joy even in the midst of the tribulation that he

faces.

He goes on to explain to the church at Corinth why he has been

comforted.

And really essentially what it is is that Titus, a fellow that worked

with Paul.

And we will talk more about Titus on Sunday morning.

Titus was able to be comforted of God through the ministry of Paul.

And then Titus went on to comfort the church there in Corinth.

And so Paul was just explaining how comforting it is to

see God's comfort working through the ministry and into the

people.

And so he says, this brings me joy even in the midst of difficulty.

And so what does that mean for us?

That means this.

We can rejoice even in the midst of difficulty because of the

comfort of God.

2 Corinthians chapter 1 mentioned the idea that God is a

2 Corinthians 1 · chapter mention

God of all comfort.

And as God comforts us, so is the challenge for us to comfort others.

And so verse number seven of Second Corinthians, chapter seven,

he says at the very end, he says, you know, I have rejoiced all

the more there.

This has been consolation for me that Titus was comforted by God,

comforted by his presence, and then ultimately comforted them.

And so we as Christians are to seek after the comfort of God and

look to how we can comfort others in the midst of their hardships,

their tribulations, as this passage says.

And ultimately that should bring us joy, the joy of God in the

midst of circumstances that might not be considered joyful in

the eyes of the world.

And so encourage you to be here this Sunday to hear about this

message, the joy and the comfort, the joy and the comfort.
