2nd Sep 2026 Wednesday Service - Rekindling The Fire For Missions by PBC Missions Pastor, Victor Kimani.

I bring us a message very briefly, rekindling the fire for missions, moving from timidity to courage, rekindling the fire for missions, moving from timidity to courage.

And we are picking it from the book of Acts, Acts chapter 1, from verse 6 to 9, Acts chapter 1 from verse 6 to 9.

Media, if you can be able to project it, the Bible says, then they gathered around him and asked him, Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?

He said to them, It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Then he continues to say Acts 1.8.

We can say this together, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria unto the ends of the earth.

Father, we thank you that the entrance of your word, the entrance of your word, brings light, brings transformation, brings healing, brings deliverance to your people.

And Father, we are grateful that even as we share about the rekindling of the fire formations, that you will touch one in this congregation, one watching online, that Father they may say, like the prophet Jeremiah Isaiah said, Here I am, Lord, send me.

Father, we thank you and bless you.

In Jesus' name I have prayed.

And we all said, Amen.

I share with us three points.

Number one, the promise, number two, the purpose, and number three, the plan.

The promise, the purpose, and the plan.

You see, in the beginning of the text in Acts chapter 1, you see the disciples have started a conversation with Jesus, and they are asking Jesus, is this the time that you are to establish the kingdom of Israel?

The disciples were with Jesus, but they were looking forward to the establishment of a kingdom of Israel that the Israelites would no longer be under the Roman rule.

They were so narrow-minded that they were thinking Jesus had come to become the king of the Jews, and therefore he would deliver them from Roman rule.

And Jesus is telling them it is not about you to understand about times and seasons that the Lord has set.

He's simply telling them it is not about the setting of time the way you look at it, but he's looking at it from the context of what it means to speak about the kingdom.

Jesus is simply telling them, I did not come to establish an earthly kingdom, I came to establish a heavenly kingdom.

And he's trying to give a narrative of how that kingdom is established.

And the Bible says he continued to tell them that they will receive power.

When the Holy Spirit comes upon them, then they shall be witnesses of what Christ has done.

You see, when the Bible is talking about a witness, I'm talking about the purpose, I'm in the first point.

The promise.

The promise is the power, the power that will come upon them.

And you know, if you try to understand at that point of Jesus' ministry, if you continue to verse 9, the Bible says, Jesus, after saying these words, after Jesus saying these words, he was taken up to heaven.

After he told them, You shall receive power.

When the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria, and in the ends of the earth, Jesus was taken up while they were watching.

Can you imagine?

Jesus was walking with his disciples for three and a half years.

They saw all the miracles, they saw all the manifestation of the power of God through the ministry of Jesus Christ.

But now he's telling them they will receive power.

They have not received the power yet.

And Jesus is being taken up in their very presence, going to heaven.

You can imagine what they felt.

They were hopeless, they were helpless, they had seen everything that Jesus did.

The one they looked up to had now gone to heaven.

They were now under the persecution of the Romans.

No wonder they were asking if it was time that Jesus had come to establish his kingdom.

I want you to imagine with me that you are one of the disciples.

Probably you are Peter or you are John or you are James, and you have been with the master in this period of time, watching him do miracles, watching him do signs and wonders, watching him heal the sick, watching him open the eyes of the blind, and now he's gone to heaven.

Can you imagine the hopelessness and the fear that gripped them?

That now Jesus has gone.

What will happen to us?

What will happen to the ministry?

They arrested Jesus the other day and they crucified him.

What will become of us?

There was a promise, and the promise was a promise of the power of the Holy Spirit.

When we continue in Acts chapter 2, it doesn't take very long.

It is simply 50 days after the Passover.

Acts 1, 8 must happen.

We must be sensitive to understand the times and seasons of God.

We must be able to tune to the spirit and be able to distinguish between noises and what God is saying.

We must be able to understand the visitations of God in our season and in our time.

We must be able to live in obedience to the instructions and to the word of God given to us in this season.

They believed.

Amen.

They believed in him.

In spite of the season of oppression by the Romans, they believed.

Until we are sensitive, until we are able to listen, until we are able to understand, until we are able to distinguish, until we have the discernment to know the difference between the voice of God and the noises, we cannot be able to determine whether it is the time to go to the upper room or not.

They were in tuned to the Holy Spirit.

And when you are going to be intuned, when you are going to listen, when you are going to obey, when you are going to live in accordance with the leading of the Holy Spirit, you will understand what consecration means.

Now, after Jesus left, it doesn't take long.

50 days.

So what was happening within the 50-day period, they chose to pray.

Hallelujah.

They chose to be in the upper room, 120 of them.

They said, We will not live until there is a visitation.

How desperate are you for God's visitation?

Let me say we are in the season of the visitation of the Spirit of God.

This visitation is not coming in the crowds.

It is coming in the closet.

When you have made a deliberate intention and choice to listen keenly to God in your own personal space and seek God in your own personal space in your closet.

That is consecration.

They chose to remain in the upper room.

And while they were waiting, fifty days.

We are celebrating jubilee.

Fifty years.

It is a season of restitution.

Jubilee did not end the time we celebrated in the big dome out there.

The Bible says consecrate the 50th year.

It did not say consecrate the 50th week.

We are still in the jubilee season.

And the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they were able to share this message boldly.

Boldly.

Asked the second time after the cockerel crowd crowd, cockroach, whichever one of those one you'll choose, depends with which school he went to.

He denied him the second time and he continues denying him the third time.

What happened to the timid Peter that he would stand before a crowd without fear or intimidation of the Romans, without fear or intimidation of being arrested, without fear or intimidation of being crucified?

It is the power of God that came upon him.

And he would not fear to proclaim this gospel fearlessly, regardless of what would happen.

Do you know what?

Peter believed.

And when I'm saying those words, I simply see our missionaries.

All of them are in very vulnerable places.

They are not in a place where you can very easily access a matatu like we do.

You walk outside, there is a matatu ready for you.

They are not in such places.

Some of them are in flooded areas.

Whenever it rains, you have to enter the station through riding a boat because the waters have risen to very high levels.

That is a risk you are taking.

Some of them are in very volatile places.

Gun shots all over the place.

But they have said, we will not give up.

We will still continue serving God.

Like Peter, they stood up and said, I will leave my comfort zone in Nairobi and have made a deliberate choice.

I will serve God in this volatile, dangerous place.

They would have chosen to go to the coast.

Probably it would have been a better place for them to enjoy the sunshine, jump into the sea, and enjoy a cool juice of, you know, orange juice from the coast.

But they chose to go to places where it is uncomfortable for the sake of the gospel.

Reminds me of Peter, who stood up and did not fear to be arrested, to be incarcerated, to die or to be crucified.

He said, if I am to be crucified, it is well.

I will be with my Jesus.

Is that your passion for missions?

Are you ready to give yourself to Christ and to serve Him that way?

Of course, I know that we are not all called the same way.

Some of us may feel that is too much for me, but you can be able to pray.

Yeah?

What do you need to pray for a missionary?

How can you engage in missions, like Maureen said?

You can pray, you can remember them.

Even after I've shared this someone, you can go to them and ask them, give me your phone number.

I really want to be praying for you.

You can do that.

You may feel that Turkana is maybe too hot for you, but you can pray.

You can support them.

You can give, you can give them something like probably a thousand shillings sent through your empassor to say, okay, I'm in Arobi, maybe I can spare this one for this one from Turkana.

Maybe he can have some juice on his way back.

Or maybe the one going to Wilchamus on his way, going through Rich Valley, they could buy some bananas or some oranges on the way.

You can encourage them.

If you can't pray, you can give.

If you can't give, you can support.

If you can't support, you can visit.

There's a lot that we can do.

So you cannot say there is nothing I can do.

At least you have a voice, you can pray.

You know, Peter stood up and shared the message boldly.

When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, there is no fear for persecution.

Instead, you have the courage to face the world, face the persecution, face the trials, face the tribulations.

The missionaries were only able to share a snippet of what they go through.

I pray that you would spend time with them between now and even Sunday before they leave, so that you can understand the dynamics of being in the mission field.

And I believe God will bless them abundantly for putting their lives on the line for the sake of the cross.

Choosing to stand for God regardless of your situations.

I believe it is at high time.

We started praying kingdom prayers, moving away from microeconomic prayers that speak about yourself, selfish prayers.

That God, would you bless me with this?

Would you bless me with that?

There is nothing wrong with God blessing you about the things you need.

But don't you think it is much better to pray for thy kingdom?

Come.

When the kingdom of God comes, you are part and parcel of the benefits of the kingdom.

Don't you think it is a better prayer than praying about your needs?

Probably it's about time.

We change the trajectory of our prayers and start giving thanks because of what the Lord has done and pray kingdom prayers.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Look at how they prayed in Acts 4.31.

They came together and prayed, and the place where they were was shaken.

Hallelujah.

You pray until heaven responds to your prayer by shaking the ground.

God specifically, specifically turns around the tectonic plates because of your prayer.

Because you have prayed.

In Swahili, I would say, Kunatokeam tetemeko wa athi, kua sababuya maumbiyako are your prayers that favourent.

Kingdom prayers that touch the heart of God brings heaven into your situation.

Kingdom prayers that touch the heart of God bring kingdom impact into your space.

My prayer is that God will visit you and come through for you and minister to you, but much more that your prayer may be kingdom prayers.

That you may leave this place, not thinking so much about your need, but thinking more about what God needs you to do.

When did you ever pray and ask God, God, what would you want me to do for you?

When did you ever pray and ask God, God, what can I do for you?

Today, you can answer that prayer by ministering to these missionaries, by encouraging these missionaries as they continue serving God.

I'll go to the next point, the purpose.

What was the purpose of the power?

The purpose of the power was to be a witness, to talk about Christ to other people.

You know, sometimes you wonder, how do I do this?

You know, the gospel, the meaning of the gospel is good news.

And I believe you never keep good news to yourself, and bear with me, our our congregation watching online.

If we go overboard, please bear with us.

Good news is never kept in the secret.

When you have good news, you are ready to talk about it.

Probably you have been promoted, you know, from one position to the next position.

That is something you cannot keep to yourself.

You want everybody to know about it.

Probably you have passed your exams.

You want everybody to know that something good has happened to you.

You have good news to share.

And probably you've bought a new farm, you've bought a new car.

You know, good things are happening in your life.

You have a good business deal and you are making good money.

So everybody needs to know.

The gospel is the good news.

The good news that Jesus came, Jesus gave his life, Jesus died, Jesus rose again, Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, and Jesus is coming back for us.

That is good news.

Do you have passion to share this good news?

A witness is somebody who has seen, somebody who has heard, somebody who has experienced.

Now that you have tasted that the Lord is good, what are you doing about it?

You know, probably you're saying, Pastor, how do I talk about it?

Let me help you.

When you're talking about conversation, and probably you are a geologist, you are a geologist, you are dealing with geology, you are dealing with rocks.

Let me tell you, Jesus is the rock of ages.

That can start a conversation about rocks.

If probably you are in the pectory industry or you are baking cakes or you are doing culinary arts, Jesus is the bread of life.

You can start that conversation.

Probably you are drilling water, you are an hydrologist, and as you are digging this water.

Jesus is the living water.

Probably you are an accountant and you are balancing books.

Books will be written.

The books will be written, and we shall give an account.

Mr.

Accountant, you can share the gospel.

Probably you are a lawyer and you have defended many people in court and you are listening to me and you're wondering, how do I share this gospel?

How do I become a witness?

The Holy Spirit is our lawyer.

He's our defender.

He's the one who stands for us.

Maybe you are an engineer and saying, How do I share this gospel?

How?

I'm just an engineer.

God is the maker of heaven and the earth.

If there is any engineering you need to understand, just look at creation itself.

It will tell you about engineering than you can ever imagine.

Are you a farmer and wondering how I can share this gospel?

The story of the farmer who went to sow seed.

And Jesus is saying in John 15 that we are my father is the gardener.

You know, and every branch must bear fruit.

Mr.

Farmer, you have an opportunity, no excuse for not sharing the gospel.

Probably, Mr.

Architect, you are saying, ah, me, I'm in architecture.

There is nothing in the Bible about architecture.

Have you heard the story of the two builders?

The one who built his foundation on the sand and the one who built his foundation on the rock?

Are you telling me you still can't share the gospel?

Let's continue.

Probably you will have to do some catch-up.

I'm a business person.

And there is nothing I can be able to tell anybody in the Bible.

Tell them there is what we call kingdom business, the business of winning souls.

Or maybe Mr.

Sportsman, like my friend Felix, lifting weights and saying, Oh, there is nothing about sports in the Bible.

After all, Jesus was not doing a marathon.

Are you sure?

Hebrews chapter 12, run the race with perseverance.

Hebrews 12 · chapter mention

And Paul also says, I don't fight like I'm boxing the air.

Or you thought boxing was not in the Bible, boxing is in the Bible, sportsman.

There's a reason for you to share the gospel.

Or probably now you are saying, I'm a soldier.

There is nothing in the Bible about being a soldier.

Let me remind you, Ephesians chapter 6, from verse 9 to 11, put on the full armor of God.

Ephesians 6 · chapter mention

I'm telling you, the Bible has every conversation you can have with anybody anytime you want it.

So, any reason why?

Any reason why you can't share the gospel?

Okay.

Psalms 24, the earth is the Lord's and everything in it.

Start a conversation from there and be a witness of what Jesus has done in your life.

Is there a reason you're not a witness?

Somebody said, the big question in the room is you are making something.

Jesus says in Matthew 4.19, He's calling the disciple to come to me and I will make you fishers of men.

You are either making disciples.

Are you making disciples?

Are we making disciples?

Or are we making excuses?

It's my prayer that we will make disciples.

That is the reason we have the power to become witnesses.

You are employed by your company or you are working.

Are you working for the kingdom or are you working for the paycheck?

Consider yourself a minister, consider yourself a missionary in the way you carry yourself.

Because non-believers don't read the Bible.

You are the Bible they are reading.

What are they reading?

Who are they seeing?

Are they seeing Jesus or are they seeing someone else?

And finally, the plan.

The plan is that everyone must reach everyone and reach everyone everywhere.

Everyone needs the gospel.

The Bible says, You shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and in the ends of the earth.

There will be a gathering of God's people in Revelation 7, verse 9.

Revelation 7:9

A gathering of people from all nations, all tribes, people of all professions and callings shall stand before God one day from everywhere to everywhere.

You see, when I consider this generation that we live in today, we have all it takes to send this gospel in any part of the world today.

We have a mobile phone in our hands.

Right now, you can post a message about a scripture to a person in a faraway country.

We are the generation without any excuse.

In Romans 10, verse 13 to 15.

Romans 10:13–15

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

How then can they call on the one they have not believed?

And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not had?

And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?

As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.

God is waiting on you to take this message from where you are to the rest of the world.

You have, I have, we have no excuse.

We really don't have any excuse for not sharing this gospel.

How beautiful are your feet.

Have you led anyone to Christ for the last two months?

The mission department gives you an opportunity to partner with us in reaching out.

You can reach out when we are doing prison outreach and probably share the gospel there, and someone will definitely give their lives to Jesus.

Give God a reason to rejoice.

Give God a reason to rejoice.

The Bible says there is rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents.

When did you make heaven rejoice?

Imagine if you will win a soul and make God rejoice.

Will God not also likewise make you rejoice in him?

Maybe we need to think about it.

We have an opportunity to bring back the flame of the missions to the ends of the earth.

Let me quote what Pastor Simon said once.

To imagine that you are this candle, you are this light that needs to shine and dispel darkness.

I remember Pastor Simon saying, by sharing your light, you do not lose your brilliance.

The candle that shares its light never loses its brilliance.

What it does, it helps in the dispelling of darkness.

Let your light shine and let God be glorified.

You are the light of the world.

Let us rekindle the fire of the missions.

Let us go for the season and the time is now.

Father, we thank you that we are this generation that needs to know that the Great Commission has not changed.

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to you.

Jesus is saying, Because I have all the all authority, I am sending you to go and make disciples of all nations, of all peoples, of all people groups.

He has promised that he'll be with you always to the very end of the age.

You can make a difference when you make this commitment because the great commission has not changed.

The harvest doesn't wait.

The harvest is still ready.

Father, we pray again that you will help us to arise as a people in this generation because you will hold us accountable to the Great Commission as the generation of this season that has been given everything we need to propagate this gospel far and wide.

Now, Holy Spirit, descend upon us afresh and give us the burden for the mission field.

For the harvest is plentiful.

And Lord, we don't want to say the laborers are few.

The laborers are here.

Minister to us.

By your grace, enable us by the power of your spirit to reach our neighbors, to reach those who are in our spheres of influence, to reach out to our colleagues, to reach out to our business partners.

Because, oh Lord, the time is indeed near.

Now, Lord, glorify yourself and minister to us because you have prayed this, even believing and trusting.

In the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

And together we said, Amen.

Let's give a hand clap to Jesus.

I want you to say with me, here I am, send me.

Here I am ready to go.

Here I am with the light of the gospel going into the darkness to make the difference for Christ.

To make the difference for Christ.

And now may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you now and forevermore.
