  1. Sometimes the hardest sins to confront are the ones no one else sees, whether it's the attitudes we justify, the thoughts we entertain, or the compromises we quietly allow.

  2. Hidden sin can slowly dull our sensitivity to God.

  3. It can create distance in our hearts, even if everything looks fine on the outside.

  4. Psalm 51 was written after David became aware of his own sin.

  5. Instead of hiding, he turned toward God.

  6. Listen to part of his prayer in Psalm 51, 10.

  7. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

  8. David does not defend himself.

  9. He does not minimize what he has done.

  10. He asks for cleansing.

  11. Today we are going to ask God to search our hearts and bring anything hidden into his light.

  12. Take a moment to become aware of his presence with you now.

  13. Thank God that he is merciful and compassionate.

  14. Is there a thought pattern, habit, resentment, or secret compromise that you have been excusing?

  15. Bring that before God now, specifically and honestly.

  16. Ask him to create in you a clean heart and to renew a steadfast spirit within you.
