-
How would you describe your usual pace in life?
-
Are you someone who hurries, stresses easily?
-
Are you often overwhelmed by your schedule?
-
You can read about a woman in the Bible named Martha who fits this description.
-
And as she kept her mind fixed on the tasks at hand while Jesus was at her house, his gentle rebuke is also a reminder for us today.
-
Luke 10, 41 through 42 says, Martha, Martha, the Lord answered, You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed, or indeed only one.
-
Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.
-
What was it that her sister Mary chose?
-
It was to sit and rest in the presence of Jesus.
-
She recognized the priority in that moment.
-
Today we're going to pray for this same discernment as Mary and rest in the presence of Jesus who is with us.
-
Take a moment to thank Jesus that his presence is available to you right now.
-
Bring to him the responsibilities and pressures that often crowd out quiet time with him.
-
Mary showed, choosing what matters most.
-
You are worthy of my attention and my time.
-
Thank you for being with me.
-
Amen.
