  1. happy Easter happy Easter he is risen he

  2. is risen indeed amen well I'm Pastor

  3. Chris i'm senior pastor here it's so

  4. good to see you and be able to worship

  5. with you on this Easter Sunday good

  6. morning to everybody that's worshiping

  7. online i am so excited to kick off this

  8. new sermon series called Go Big on

  9. Easter Sunday morning as we celebrate

  10. the greatest moment in all of human

  11. history the resurrection of Jesus Christ

  12. from the dead easter is a perfect

  13. example of what it means to go big this

  14. isn't just some story or some symbol

  15. this is the turning point of everything

  16. easter is the day that changed the world

  17. forever but Easter is more than just a

  18. holiday on a calendar it's more than

  19. just colorful eggs or colorful

  20. marshmallows I guess this year it's more

  21. than fancy clothes it's more than big

  22. family dinners easter is about love big

  23. love this love is not the kind of love

  24. that comes and goes this not This love

  25. is not the kind of love that depends on

  26. how somebody else treats us easter is

  27. about big love bold love lifech changing

  28. love the kind of love that we do or is

  29. done when no one else is willing to do

  30. it think of of a moment sometime in your

  31. life where you witnessed love in action

  32. you know when you when you saw somebody

  33. who who did something courageous or

  34. unselfish or full of compassion and it

  35. caused you to stop for a second and say

  36. "Wow that that is love." I mean think

  37. about like firefighters for example

  38. running into burning buildings to rescue

  39. people they've never met in their entire

  40. life think about parents or grandparents

  41. giving up everything so that their kids

  42. and grandkids have an opportunity to

  43. have a better life than they had that

  44. kind of love isn't quiet that kind of

  45. love doesn't hide in the background that

  46. kind of love is loud that kind of love

  47. is big that kind of love is noticeable

  48. and that's what Easter is easter is God

  49. shouting to the world "I love you." John

    John 3:16

  50. 3:16 says "For God so loved the world

  51. that he gave his one and only son that

  52. whoever believes in him shall not perish

  53. but have eternal life." Now that's more

  54. than just a Bible verse that we memorize

  55. when we're kids or a or a Bible uh thing

  56. we see at a football game behind the

  57. goalpost that kind of that verse is the

  58. heartbeat of Easter that's the message

  59. that shakes the foundation of the earth

  60. god gave now he didn't give something

  61. simple he didn't give something easy he

  62. gave his son and then Jesus came and

  63. lived among us loved us died for us and

  64. then rose again from the grave the

  65. resurrection isn't just proof that Jesus

  66. defeated death it's proof that God's

  67. love is real god's love is powerful and

  68. God's love is alive today easter is an

  69. open invitation it's a divine I love you

  70. sent from an empty tomb and sealed with

  71. hope it's a reminder that no matter who

  72. you are no matter what you've done no

  73. matter where you've been God's love is

  74. still reaching out to you so as we

  75. celebrate today I don't want to just

  76. focus on the traditions of Easter those

  77. are important and they're good and we

  78. celebrate those but I want us to fix our

  79. eyes on the cross and on the empty grave

  80. and remember that love that actually

  81. changes everything because remember

  82. Easter is love in its biggest boldest

  83. and loudest form so I want to take a

  84. closer look at the Easter story that

  85. that you heard at the beginning from

  86. Matthew chapter 28 and it starts in

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  87. darkness with these two women Mary

  88. Magdalene and the other Mary on their

  89. way to the tomb early in the morning

  90. their hearts are just broken cuz the one

  91. that they believed in the one that they

  92. had followed had just died a brutal

  93. death to them all hope had seemed lost

  94. it must have felt like darkness had

  95. actually won and if we're honest we've

  96. all been there in our life right where

  97. we feel like darkness has won where

  98. darkness has has has just defeated us

  99. but then something incredible happens in

  100. verse two we read "There's a violent

  101. earthquake for the angel of the Lord

  102. came down from heaven and going to the

  103. tomb rolled back the stone and sat on

  104. it." Now imagine that moment for a

  105. second an earthquake shaking the ground

  106. a bright and powerful angel appearing

  107. from heaven heaven itself was breaking

  108. into earth god was doing something big

  109. and then in verses five and six the

  110. angel says to the women "Do not be

  111. afraid." Angels always lead with that

  112. "do not be afraid for I know that you're

  113. looking for Jesus who was crucified he

  114. is not here he has risen just as he

  115. said." Those words changed everything

  116. jesus wasn't dead anymore the grave was

  117. empty he had risen just like he promised

  118. amen i mean that's why we're here today

  119. to celebrate the resurrection of Christ

  120. that moment shows us that the

  121. resurrection wasn't just a miracle to

  122. impress people it was God's big love in

  123. action jesus didn't stay in the grave he

  124. defeated sin he crushed death and he

  125. rose to a new life and he offers that

  126. life to you to me and to anyone else who

  127. will believe in him this isn't just

  128. about power this is what it means to

  129. love big jesus went through the worst

  130. pain and suffering so we could be free

  131. he didn't just talk about love he showed

  132. it with his life he showed it with his

  133. death and he showed it in the

  134. resurrection you know I recently read a

  135. story that I think helps drive this

  136. point home and the story is about a

  137. person that fell into a deep hole like a

  138. well and they were stuck in pitch

  139. blackness in the bottom and couldn't get

  140. out and then a rescuer arrives and is

  141. lowered down into that dark hole risking

  142. their own life to bring the trapped

  143. person out of the dark and into the

  144. light that's exactly what Jesus did for

  145. us he didn't stay far away he entered

  146. into darkness he faced death itself so

  147. that we could be saved

  148. that's what true love does it doesn't

  149. just speak it moves it acts god didn't

  150. just say "I love you." He proved it

  151. through the cross and the empty tomb so

  152. this Easter I don't want us to just

  153. celebrate a historical event i want us

  154. to celebrate a personal rescue the

  155. resurrection is proof that God sees us

  156. god loves us

  157. god is willing to go to the deepest and

  158. darkest places to bring us back so if

  159. you are here this morning or worshiping

  160. online and you have ever felt stuck or

  161. you have ever felt unworthy or if you

  162. you have ever felt forgotten remember

  163. that the empty tomb is God's promise

  164. that your story isn't over god's love is

  165. alive and it's reaching out to you and

  166. to me the resurrection not only proves

  167. how powerful love is but it also teaches

  168. us that we are to live that love out in

  169. our own lives in fact in John 13:34

    John 13:34

  170. Jesus gives a command that challenges us

  171. deeply he says "Love one another as I

  172. have loved you you must also love one

  173. another." Now that verse is not just a

  174. suggestion that verse is actually a

  175. command and let's be honest it's a

  176. pretty tall order because Jesus set the

  177. bar incredibly high on what it means to

  178. love others his love was sacrificial his

  179. love was big and his love was full he

  180. loved in a way that most of us can't

  181. fully even comprehend and certainly

  182. can't replicate on our own in our own

  183. power so let me break it down for for a

  184. second first he showed us sacrificial

  185. love he loved by giving his life he died

  186. on a cross to save us from sin he didn't

  187. hold anything back sacrificial love is

  188. about putting others needs before our

  189. own even if it's going to cost us

  190. something

  191. significant he also showed us how to

  192. love big you see Jesus's love wasn't

  193. passive he went out of his way to serve

  194. others whether by healing the sick or or

  195. or helping the poor or forgiving sinners

  196. he loved big in situations where most

  197. people wouldn't even go into the

  198. situation he didn't care about the

  199. consequences of showing people love he

  200. only cared about the people he was

  201. showing love to and finally Jesus showed

  202. full love he loved completely even when

  203. it meant enduring mockery suffering and

  204. death on a cross you see he didn't love

  205. selectively he didn't love conditionally

  206. you've heard me say multiple times you

  207. never look at a person who Jesus didn't

  208. die for he loved everyone no matter what

  209. their actions were no matter how they

  210. treated him he his love was constant and

  211. unfailing even when he was rejected

  212. so I wonder who is God calling us to

  213. love even when it's

  214. hard maybe it's a family member that's

  215. hurt you maybe it's a co-orker that

  216. you're frustrated with maybe it's a

  217. neighbor who seems indifferent or or or

  218. hostile or I don't know blows their

  219. grass clippings into your driveway

  220. whatever it is Jesus calls us to love

  221. those that are difficult to love just

  222. like he loved us when we were

  223. unlovable so this Easter I want you to

  224. take a moment and reflect on who in your

  225. life needs to experience the power of

  226. love that comes from Jesus love that

  227. doesn't give up love that isn't selfish

  228. love that changes

  229. lives you see loving like Jesus means we

  230. have to step out of our comfort zones we

  231. need to set aside our pride we need to

  232. love unconditionally it's a radical love

  233. and it's exactly the kind of love that

  234. our world needs to see today god's love

  235. raised Jesus from the grave and that

  236. same love is working in

  237. us think about that for a second let

  238. that sink in the power that brought

  239. Jesus back to life is the same power

  240. that we have access to in order to love

  241. others so when we love like Jesus we

  242. don't just feel good or do a nice thing

  243. we actually change the world when we

  244. love we're not simply meeting a need in

  245. a moment we are participating in God's

  246. bigger story love is just more than a

  247. warm feeling love is more than a kind

  248. gesture

  249. it's an active force that impacts lives

  250. it impacts communities it can even

  251. impact the nation love is a powerful

  252. tool that God gives us allowing us to be

  253. the hands and feet of Jesus in this

  254. world for example Jesus taught us to

  255. feed the hungry not just with food but

  256. with dignity matthew 25:35 says "For I

    Matthew 25:35

  257. was hungry and you gave me something to

  258. eat." In our everyday lives love compels

  259. us to respond to the needs of those

  260. around us it's not just about filling

  261. somebody's stomach it's about offering a

  262. sense of belonging it's about caring for

  263. someone who feels forgotten it's what

  264. our Feed the Berg initiative is all

  265. about now sure we're having a

  266. competition between all the different

  267. worship services to see which worship

  268. service can bring in the most food

  269. supplies for Shim that's awesome but

  270. we're meeting that need for food so we

  271. can then have the right to share with

  272. those folks the most important need that

  273. they have which is a relationship with

  274. Jesus love also forgives the broken you

  275. know there's something powerful about

  276. forgiveness forgiveness is

  277. transformative it doesn't just heal the

  278. person who receives it it heals the

  279. person who actually gives the

  280. forgiveness as well jesus modeled this

  281. when he was on the cross and he said

  282. "Father forgive them for they know not

  283. what they're doing." You see love

  284. doesn't keep score love doesn't hold

  285. grudges it extends grace to those who

  286. need it most god forgave us and we are

  287. called to forgive others offering them a

  288. chance for a fresh start no strength

  289. restoring relationships that have been

  290. broken for years and love doesn't stop

  291. there love also brings hope to the

  292. hopeless love is the greatest source of

  293. hope when life feels overwhelming when

  294. the world seems like it's falling apart

  295. love is that thread that holds

  296. everything together jesus came to bring

  297. hope to show us that no situation is

  298. beyond the reach of God's love love

  299. reminds us that no one is beyond hope

  300. even in the darkest of circumstances

  301. light can break through we live in a

  302. world that often overlooks the

  303. vulnerable overlooks the broken and love

  304. can make all the difference and here's

  305. the thing it doesn't have to be this big

  306. grand gesture sometimes the simplest

  307. acts of kindness can have the greatest

  308. impact in people's lives jesus says in

  309. Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the

    Matthew 5:14

  310. world." Love is that light and in a

  311. world full of darkness our light can

  312. shine brighter than you think you see

  313. it's not just about how much love we

  314. have it's about how much love we're

  315. willing to give and in the same way a

  316. little tiny candle can light up a a

  317. really dark room when we love like Jesus

  318. we can become a beacon of hope and a

  319. light in a world that is dark and it can

  320. make a difference in people's lives so

  321. ask yourself how can you be a light to

  322. someone today who around me needs love

  323. forgiveness hope it could be something

  324. as simple as a meal but again don't wait

  325. for the perfect moment don't wait for

  326. the big opportunity start with what's

  327. right in front of you jesus changed the

  328. world one life at a time our small act

  329. of love can change this world one life

  330. at a time now I want to take a moment

  331. and make this even a little bit more

  332. personal because Easter isn't just about

  333. remembering what Jesus did for us it's

  334. about reflecting that love that changes

  335. us to others jesus's death and

  336. resurrection invites us to a new way of

  337. life a life that calls us to love big in

  338. service to others so how can we love big

  339. like Jesus this week you see when we

  340. look at Jesus's life we see love that is

  341. extravagant it's sacrificial and it's

  342. unconditional now we're called to live

  343. out that love in our daily lives and

  344. when we do it can make an impact in

  345. other people's lives for example let me

  346. go back to our families how many of you

  347. are going to be with family at some

  348. point today for Easter relationships at

  349. home can sometimes be the hardest but

  350. they can also provide the greatest

  351. opportunity to show love maybe there's

  352. someone in your family that you're

  353. holding a grudge against well this week

  354. I want to encourage you to step forward

  355. and offer forgiveness it could be as

  356. simple as letting go of a past hurt it

  357. could be offering a sincere apology

  358. you can also look for chances to serve

  359. your family without waiting on them to

  360. ask for it guys hear that again you can

  361. step out and serve your family without

  362. waiting for them to ask for it sometimes

  363. the simplest acts speak the loudest we

  364. can also love in our community our

  365. neighborhoods are full of people who

  366. need love right we can start small by

  367. reaching out to a neighbor who might be

  368. going through a tough situation you know

  369. a listening ear can make all the

  370. difference in the world you can

  371. volunteer to serve here at the church

  372. and help others who are looking to grow

  373. in their relationship with Christ you

  374. can serve outside of the church in

  375. organizations that are making a

  376. difference in people's lives like Shim

  377. South Hills Interfaith Movement who is

  378. fighting against food insecurity in the

  379. South Hills you might only have one hour

  380. to spare spare every single month but

  381. that one hour could make a huge

  382. difference in somebody's life you can

  383. also love big in school or at your job

  384. and sometimes the workplace and school

  385. can be an environment where kindness and

  386. love kind of feel scarce especially when

  387. people are stressed or just looking out

  388. for themselves

  389. but isn't that just the perfect place to

  390. make a difference by showing others love

  391. by being kind when others are rude or

  392. indifferent by going the extra mile to

  393. help someone who might be struggling or

  394. feel left out offering a word of

  395. encouragement to someone who feels

  396. unnoticed standing up for someone who

  397. can't stand up for themselves and

  398. remember love isn't always easy but it's

  399. often when it's the hardest that it

  400. means the most

  401. and I can't say this enough don't

  402. overlook the importance of the small

  403. gestures when it comes to love again it

  404. doesn't have to be big it doesn't have

  405. to be

  406. dramatic sometimes the smallest gesture

  407. can have the biggest

  408. impact a simple text message to check in

  409. on someone a smile as you pass someone

  410. going in and out of worship or in and

  411. out of the grocery store or wherever you

  412. may see someone could brighten their day

  413. a helping hand if you see someone trying

  414. to do something that looks like they're

  415. struggling and need a little bit of help

  416. those little acts of love over time can

  417. create ripples of kindness in our

  418. world a listening ear can change

  419. somebody's life more than you could ever

  420. imagine never underestimate the power of

  421. that small

  422. gesture so here's your challenge for

  423. this Easter week

  424. find one way to show big sacrificial

  425. love to someone else it could be as big

  426. as helping a neighbor with their

  427. groceries as big as texting someone a

  428. word of encouragement as big as loving

  429. someone who's hard to love as big as

  430. forgiving someone who isn't really

  431. looking for forgiveness maybe as big as

  432. being a mentor to someone who needs a

  433. mentor and anything in between and after

  434. you show that love to that person take a

  435. moment and pray and ask God to use that

  436. act of love to make a real difference in

  437. the life of the person you served trust

  438. that God will work through our actions

  439. no matter how small they may seem to us

  440. you see Easter isn't just about

  441. celebrating what Jesus did it's about

  442. answering the call to carry his love to

  443. the world jesus's resurrection changes

  444. everything because he is alive love is

  445. alive and that love is not meant to stay

  446. confined to the past it is meant to

  447. transform the present and to shape the

  448. future love didn't stay in the grave it

  449. broke free and now it lives inside of us

  450. so let's follow the example of Jesus and

  451. show others what it means to love big

  452. let's pray lord we're so grateful for

  453. who you are we're grateful for the

  454. example of what it means to love big and

  455. may we receive that love that you gave

  456. to us and as we receive that may we

  457. realize that it isn't just for us to

  458. hold on

  459. to it's for us to actually change how we

  460. live it's for us to go out and show that

  461. love to others so that their lives can

  462. be changed just like our life has been

  463. changed it isn't about as about how much

  464. love we have it is about how much love

  465. we are willing to give help us to follow

  466. your lead and love like you loved we ask

  467. all of this in your son's name and

  468. everyone said "Amen
